• When broadcasting starts at four , they target the lower end of their target
audience such as showing cartoons and programmes of the same genre.
Then around six o’clock they then begins to target their older target
audience by showing programmes such as Hollyoaks and How I Met Your
mother. From then they go on to air some popular programmes for the
higher end of there target audience such as Misfits and 2 Broke Girls.

Skins is a British teen drama that follows the lives of a group of teenagers in Bristol, South West England,

through the two years of sixth form. Its controversial storylines have explored issues such as
dysfunctional families, mental illness (such as eating disorders), adolescent sexuality, substance abuse,
death and bullying. The show was created by father-and-son television writers Bryan Elsley and Jamie
Brittain for Company Pictures, and premiered on E4 on 25 January 2007. The show went on to be a
critical success as well as a ratings winner within its target demographic. Over its initial six-year run,
Skins proved to be atypical of on going drama series in that it replaced its primary cast every two years.
Plans for a film spin-off were first discussed in 2009, but ultimately did not come to fruition. Instead, a
specially-commissioned seventh and final series of the show was broadcast in 2013, featuring some of
the cast from its 2007–10 run. The show's name comes from the rolling papers known as "skins".
It is aimed at 17-23 year old males and females.
5. • Hollyoaks is a long-running British television teen drama, first broadcast on
Channel 4 on 23 October 1995. It was originally devised by Phil Redmond, who
had also devised the Channel 4 soap Brookside. The programme is set in a
fictional suburb of Chester called Hollyoaks, and features a large cast of
characters primarily aged between 16 and 35. Beginning with a cast of just seven
major characters in 1995, the serial now has approximately 50 main cast
members. Hollyoaks has a high cast turnover in comparison with other British
soaps; as of December 2012, just thirteen characters have spent 5 years or
longer on the show.

6. WHAT IS ITV 1?
• ITV is a commercial public service TV network in the United Kingdom.
Launched in 1955 as Independent Television under the auspices of
the Independent Television Authority to provide competition to the
BBC, it is also the oldest commercial network in the UK.
• ITV is a network of television channels that operate regional television
services as well as sharing programmes between each other to be
displayed on the entire network. In recent years, several of these
companies have merged so currently the fifteen franchises are in the
hands of three companies.
• ITV airs a wide range of programmes and has been classed as a family
channel although some content aired after watershed is considered
unsuitable for children.

an average month it reaches more ABC1’s ―91%‖, men ―91%‖, women
(94%), 16-34's (86%) and housewives (95%) than any other commercial
channel.

Downton Abbey is a British period drama television series created by Julian
Fellowes and co-produced by Carnival Films and Masterpiece. It first aired on
ITV in the United Kingdom and Ireland on 26 September 2010. Four series
have been made so far.
The series, set in the Yorkshire country estate of Downton Abbey, depicts the
lives of the aristocratic Crawley family and their servants in the post-Edwardian
era—with the great events in history having an effect on their lives and on the
British social hierarchy. Such events depicted throughout the series include
news of the sinking of the RMS Titanic in the first series; the outbreak of World
War I, the Spanish influenza pandemic, and the Marconi scandal in the second
series; the Interwar period and the formation of the Irish Free State in the third
series; and the Teapot Dome scandal in the fourth series.
Downton Abbey has received critical acclaim from television critics and won
numerous accolades, including a Golden Globe Award for Best Miniseries or
Television Film and a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Miniseries or
Movie It was recognised by Guinness World Records as the most critically
acclaimed English-language television series of 2011. It earned the most
nominations of any international television series in the history of the
Primetime Emmy Awards, with twenty-seven in total (after two seasons). It was
the most watched television series on both ITV and PBS, and subsequently
became the most successful British costume drama series since the 1981
television serial of Brideshead Revisited. By the third series, it had become one
of the most widely watched television shows in the world
9. • Broadchurch is a British television crime drama broadcast on ITV, involving
the death of a young boy and the search for his killer, produced by Kudos
and starring David Tennant and Olivia Colman Casting was announced in
June 2012, with filming commencing in Clevedonn in August as well as in
West Bay in Bridport The series is set on the Dorset coast. It premiered on 4
March 2013 at 9:00pm on ITV In January 2013 generating a large amount of
publicity around the "whodunit” mystery. After the first series ended, ITV
announced that Broadchurch would return for a second series.
