I did my presentation on Tim Horton and why he is a hometown hero. His franchise named "Tim Hortons" has been a Canadian icon for more then 40 years. It was once just a small coffee shop on Ottawa Street North in the heart of Hamilton, Ontario and it has now grown into one of the country’s fastest growing and successful franchises in history.
2. Who was Tim Horton?
Tim Hortons has served over millions of people nation-wide since the first
store opened in 1964 in Hamilton, Ontario. This small privately owned hometown
business was founded by a man called Tim Horton. Tim Horton was a hockey
player who played in the National Hockey League and who was in fact, a player
for the Toronto Maple Leafs. His NHL career lasted 22 seasons and he finally
ended up in the Hockey Hall of Fame. But he is not remembered by his amazing
goals, stanley cups, or anything else that happened on the ice, but for his
wonderful idea to start up a local coffee shop called “Tim Horton Donut Drive-In”.
He met Ron Joyce soon after he opened the store and Ron shared the dream with Tim
(McMaster University named their brand new football stadium after Ron). In
1965, Ron made an entrepreneurial move and took over the Tim Horton Donut
Shop and by 1967, he opened up two more stores and both Tim and Ron became
full partners in the business. After Tim’s tragic death in 1974, Ron and the
Horton family took over as store owners and expanded the franchise quickly
opening up more then 500 stores in 1991. With more then 2750 stores located
nation-wide and now 350 in the USA, it has become one of the most successful
franchises in Canada.

coffee and two types of donuts, the Apple Fritter
and the Dutchie. They introduced their biggest
chain product focus in 1976 when they
introduced the Timbit which is now available in
35 different varieties. In the 1980s, they
introduced muffins, cakes, pies, croissants,
cookies, and soups and chili. In 1990s,
sandwiches, bagels, flavoured cappuccino, Cafe
Mocha and Iced Cap were introduced. Now they
have Yogurt & Berries, Cinnamon Rolls, Hot
Smoothies, Wraps and Hot Breakfast
Sandwiches to the menu. Over time, it is known
that Tim Hortons has been serving customers who
are constantly on the go.

9. “The Timbits Minor Sports Program is a community-
oriented sponsorship program for children four to
eight years old who participate in local house league
sports teams. The program's philosophy is not based
on winning or losing - but on learning a new sport,
making new friends, and just taking time out to be a
kid.
Tim Hortons currently sponsors over 200,000
children who play on hockey, soccer, lacrosse, t-ball,
baseball and ringette teams across Canada and in
the United States. Each sponsored team is supplied
with Timbits Minor Sports jerseys or T-shirts. Timbits
hockey teams are often given the opportunity to play
on-ice scrimmages during intermissions at Junior,
American Hockey League (AHL) and National Hockey
League (NHL) games. Timbits players are also given
the opportunity to play in their own ‘Timbits
Jamboree’, a fun-filled Tim Hortons sponsored event
where everyone receives a prize, food and
beverages.”
