- Let’s begin with a celebration… In 2010 we started our three year celebration of 100 years of Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting. Each MO have appointed their Centenary Ambassador and stared their celebrations for the next 3 years. We met ???? (the GSP Ambassador)on ??? and heard about your activities ( elaborate where necessary). This is clearly an important event for Girl Guiding Girl Scouting as not only do we celebrate 100 years of changing lives, we also use the celebration to propel the Movement to bring forth a fresh and vibrant image of the organization Firstly, some history: Who can tell me why we are celebrating our centenary over 3 years? 1910 saw the first Girl Guide groups started in the UK by Robert and Agnes Baden-Powell. By 1912, Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting had been introduced in many countries around the world. We will celebrate the birth of our Movement over three years - from 2010 to 2012. Many countries founded Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting between 1910 and 1912 What are we celebrating? For 100 years: we have planted Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting in diverse communities around the world … we have planted the seeds of change in the world… we have planted opportunities for girls and young women to grow as responsible global citizens Plant Grow and Share will be the themes for the 3 years of celebration
- 10 th April is the Centenary Celebration Day. It marks the 100 th day of the year. W e invite our members to celebrate with us! Your celebration should focus on the theme for the year and this year is PLANT. Remember to include the four elements when you celebrate 10 th of April in 2011 and 2012. - The Centenary team at WAGGGS have prepared some tools to support you in the celebration: a) The centenary celebration day pack consists of many activities to help you celebrate the centenary. 3 packs will be produce, one for each year. The first pack will help Member Organizations plan their celebrations on 10 April 2010 and has suggestions about how to incorporate the “Plant” theme. Our vision is for every one of our members to celebrate 100 years of changing lives by taking part in at least one activity on or around 10 April. Please check if GSP have started using this kit b) WAGGGS centenary website – log on and join in the activities online. c) Centenary badges, one for each year is being sold at the WAGGGS Shop and you can purchase online. Badges on the slide, White one is souvenir patch, the others is one per year. We encourage the girls to complete one activity in order to get the badge. - Another very important centenary celebration is the Young Women’s World Forum, in short YWWF. The aim is to get 600 young women to attend the forum in 3 years The theme for the forum will be the Millennium Development Goals. The objectives are: To enable delegates to develop their skills to facilitate change at all levels To form a shared vision of WAGGGS’ contributing to the achievement of the MDGs To create a declaration outlining ways in which WAGGGS and other stakeholders can contribute towards the achievement of the MDGs To generate ideas to influence WAGGGS’s vision 2020 The first forum just ended in October 2 weeks ago. Find out who went from GSP and if she is around for her to say something The next YWWF will be in 2011 at the World Centres. It is for young women between the ages of 20 -30 years, taking place simultaneously at the 4 World Centres between 19-26 March 2011. Each MO can send 2 young women who will then be selected to participate at one of the centres. Grants are available if you apply before the deadline. Thank you for sending in your applications. 2012 will be hosted by GSUSA and more details will be sent out next year.
- The first YWWF ended recently in October. 100 young women from 61 countries gathered in Enstone, Oxfordshire, UK, to learn about the Millennium Development Goals. The Forum culminated in the delegates creating a declaration of their recommendations for the three Millennium Development Goals (Ending Poverty, Gender Equality and Environmental Sustainability). The full declaration is this slide and the next 2 slides. Have a read. These will go to Governments, Civil Society and the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts. What do you think?? - This is the voices of 100 young women to WAGGGS.
- Together with the centenary, WAGGGS launched a new theme called the Global Action Theme.. The Global Action Theme focuses on the UN’s eight Millennium Goals. The tagline is GWWS ‘together we can change our world’.
- For each MDGs, WAGGGS has developed and equivalent GAT message and logo. For the MDG1. Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger GWS: together we can end extreme poverty and hunger. Every World Thinking Day will focus on one of the themes. But that does not mean your MO is not able to take on other MDGs that are relevant to your country. We urge the leaders responsible for programme for girls and young women to adapt these activities or to hold region and nation-wide projects based on the MDGs that will be most relevant to your country.
- The World Thinking Day theme for 2011 is the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) 3: gender equality and empowering women. The World Thinking Day 2001 activity pack will help you to learn that “empowering girls will change our world” and give you some ideas on what you can do to make a difference. You can also buy the WTD badge online. Check the World Thinking Day website for more information and ideas.
- Now that you are aware of your global position, we move closer to home and bring you some news re the AP Region. AP region has more than 2.5 million members from 25 countries. India is our largest MO with almost 1.4 million members. Both India and Nepal are Scouts and Guides National Organizations (SAGNOs) meaning they are one organization with the girls belonging to WAGGGS and the boys belonging to Scouts. WAGGGS stands for World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts. Girl members can be called Girl Guides or Girl Scouts, depending on the Constitution of the MO. This term can only be used by WAGGGS and not Boy Scouts. If you have girls who are members of boy scouts, they are simple called girls in scouting. Is it important we make it clear to our stakeholders, donors and media as there is often confusion which Movement they belong to. Our Associate members are Mongolia and Cambodia
- We would like to begin by bringing you well wishes from the newly elected APR Committee. Please introduce the members and where they are from and inform them Normala is their committee contact person for this year In the next few slides we will share with you some key actions of WAGGGS. This information is important because as national leaders of a WAGGGS MO, you need to consider them when you make decisions, adapt them into your existing activities and implement them in order to support WAGGGS’ Mission and Vision
- AP Link News – this is a quarterly newsletter that is available online. You can sign up to receive via your personal email. Please continue to submit articles and original format JPEG photos as this is a good tool to inform our members, Friends of AP, partners and donors of our activities. The new AP website was launched in Jan this year. It has new interactive features including the new Members Area. Has GSP registered as an MO for the Members area?? By the way all of you can get a password to access the Members Area. There you will find a wide array of resources, news and information. The pages are colourful and there are many sites to explore. A new feature is that MOs can even submit their own news, events an articles online.
