The negative economic Impact of Tourism on the Caribbean Other industries apart from tourism  reduce in size because persons are leaving them Persons leave other sectors   seeking employment in  tourism because it offers higher wages An increase in inportationof goods destroys local industries Imported goods are paid for with   the regions limited foreign exchange Many goods used by hotels are imported
Impact of Tourism on the Physical environment Destruction of vegetation    in order to construct buildings Rivers and streams change  the direction in which they normally flow The natural shape of the  land has changed Increase in land and water  pollution due  to improper desposal  of garbage and sewage  Destruction of reef s Marine life is destroyed Changes in tidal patterns  as a result of land reclamation Changes in tidal patterns  caused by land reclamation
The Socio-Cultural Impact of Tourism 1.The price of land near resort towns increase therefore only the wealthy can purchase them 2.Most of the land been sold for tourist development are located on the coast 3.Persons owning land near resort areas especially on the coast  often sell their lands to tourist developers and migrate inland 4.Good agricultural lands near the coast are often sold and used for tourist development
Continuation 5.Locals have pay to use beaches and places of amusement along the coast that were once free 6.The natural beautify of the area changes as it becomes built up  7.Tourist products are usually expensive therefore it is not often utilized by locals. 8.There is an exchange and adaptation  of culture between the host country and the tourist
8.The host country often adopt the culture of tourist and rarely practice and emphasize its own  Culture 9. Emphasis  is placed  on the development of local art and art forms. Therefore aspects of the host country's culture is preserved
10.locals  may loose the significance of their own culture  11.Increase in rural to urban migration  may lead to an increase in social problems
Factors Affecting the Development of Tourism Limited hotels rooms Schools not producing enough skillful workers Competition from other destinations Persons are unwilling to invest in this industry The tourist package needs Improvement The high cost in using utilities such as electricity The tourist packages are not promoted enough
