This document compares the conventional approach to enterprise decision management with an independent decision services approach. The conventional approach embeds business rules directly into software code, requiring frequent code changes by programmers as policies change. An independent decision services approach stores rules separately from code, allowing business users to quickly change policies without involving programmers, and makes rules available across multiple customer-facing systems.
