Whiten Your Teeth The Natural Way
1. Whiten Your Teeth The Natural Way
Everyone likes their teeth to look beautifully white and healthy, but many things we eat or drink can
dim the sparkle. There are expensive whitening procedures, but your dental insurance may not pay
for them. This article provides information about how to whiten your teeth naturally with little or no
expense.
Clean teeth are much easier to keep looking white. Going to the dentist at least two times each year
is recommended for cleanings and checkups. A dental hygienist typically cleans your teeth before the
dentist checks them over for potential problems. When you leave the dentist's office, your teeth will be
considerably cleaner than you normally get them when you brush at home. Use this as a starting
point and keep your teeth as clean as possible.
Maintain the cleanliness of your teeth by brushing and flossing at least twice every day. Using a
whitening toothpaste will help remove stains from food and drink that build up every day. If you would
like your teeth a couple shades whiter than they are, use some teeth whitening strips for a week.
These strips are not cheap, but they are less expensive than having your dentist whiten your teeth.
If you smoke and drink coffee or tea, your teeth will be stained very quickly. Smoking is quite
unhealthy to begin with, and you really should stop smoking as soon as you can. Many people drink
coffee or tea, and those beverages can also stain your teeth. If you feel you really cannot give up
your cup of morning coffee, at least rinse your mouth with water as soon as you are done with your
coffee. Brushing your teeth with a whitening toothpaste right after having your coffee is a good idea.
Some fruits can also stain your teeth, and although the stain is not permanent like it is from smoking
or drinking coffee, the stain can last several days. Even though fluoride has been shown to darken
teeth somewhat, it is an important anti-cavity ingredient in toothpaste. Toothpaste without fluoride can
be found at stores which sell natural products. In this case, you will have to make a choice as to what
is more important, cavity prevention or slightly whiter teeth.
Lemons have a natural bleaching action, and some people promote the idea that rubbing the inside of
a lemon peel on your teeth will whiten them. There is no research to support this idea, but if you can
tolerate the sour taste of the lemon, it might be worth trying.
2. Some people brush their teeth with a mixture of baking soda and super fine salt. This mixture does
clean the teeth very well, but does not leave a pleasant or "minty" taste in your mouth. An electric
toothbrush also does a much better job of cleaning your teeth than a manual one, and also takes less
time.
Whitening your teeth does not have to be a very expensive process. If you use the ideas in this
article, you can have a bright and attractive smile every day.
