Hebrews 6:1-3 Therefore let us leave
            the elementary teachings about
Christ and go on to maturity, not
            laying again the foundation of
repentance from acts that lead to
death, and of faith in God, 2
            instruction about baptisms, the
            laying on of hands, the
            resurrection of the dead, and
            eternal judgment. 3 And God
permitting, we will do so. (NIV)

Acts 8:14-17 When the apostles in
            Jerusalem heard that Samaria had
accepted the word of God, they sent
Peter and John to them. When they
arrived, they prayed for them that they
might receive the Holy Spirit, because
the Holy Spirit had not yet come upon
any of them; they had simply been
baptized into the name of the Lord
Jesus. Then Peter and John placed
their hands on them, and they received
            the Holy Spirit.

Acts 19:1-7 While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul
took the road through the interior and arrived
at Ephesus. There he found some disciples
and asked them, “Did you receive the Holy
Spirit when c you believed?” They answered,
“No, we have not even heard that there is a
Holy Spirit.” So Paul asked, “Then what
baptism did you receive?” “John’s baptism,”
they replied. Paul said, “John’s baptism was
a baptism of repentance. He told the people
to believe in the one coming after him, that is,
in Jesus.” On hearing this, they were
baptized into d the name of the Lord Jesus.
When Paul placed his hands on them, the
Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in
tongues and prophesied. There were about
            twelve men in all.

Q3: When a believer receives the Holy
                Spirit, is there any evidence?
A3: Yes, the Holy Spirit doesn’t
                                    doesn’t
                come empty-handed. He

            powerful. It takes

I Corinthians 14:26-32 What then shall we say,
brothers? When you come together, everyone has
a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a
tongue or an interpretation. All of these must be
done for the strengthening of the church. If
anyone speaks in a tongue, two—or at the most
three—should speak, one at a time, and someone
must interpret. If there is no interpreter, the
speaker should keep quiet in the church and
speak to himself and God. Two or three prophets
should speak, and the others should weigh
carefully what is said. And if a revelation comes to
someone who is sitting down, the first speaker
should stop. For you can all prophesy in turn so
that everyone may be instructed and encouraged.
The spirits of prophets are subject to the control
              of prophets.

And in the church God has appointed first
of all apostles, second prophets, third
teachers, then workers of miracles, also
those having gifts of healing, those able to
help others, those with gifts of
              administration, and those speaking in
different kinds of tongues. Are all apostles?
Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all
work miracles? Do all have gifts of healing?
Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret?
But eagerly desire d the greater gifts.

Q11: Which gifts are the most
common and which are the most
                desirable?
A11: The ability to speak in
                unlearned tongues is very common,
but the ability to speak words of
                prophecy, which reveal secret
things only knowable by God, is
                the best gift.

           I Corinthians 14:1-5,14,15
Follow the way of love and eagerly desire spiritual
gifts, especially the gift of prophecy. For anyone
who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but
to God. Indeed, no one understands him; he utters
mysteries with his spirit. But everyone who
prophesies speaks to men for their strengthening,
encouragement and comfort. He who speaks in a
tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies
edifies the church. I would like every one of you to
speak in tongues, but I would rather have you
prophesy. He who prophesies is greater than one
who speaks in tongues, unless he interprets, so
that the church may be edified.
For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind
is unfruitful. So what shall I do? I will pray with
my spirit, but I will also pray with my mind; I will
sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my
             mind.

Romans 11:29 for God’s gifts and his call are
            irrevocable.
Hebrews 2:1-4 We must pay more careful
attention, therefore, to what we have heard,
so that we do not drift away. For if the
message spoken by angels was binding, and
every violation and disobedience received its
just punishment, how shall we escape if we
ignore such a great salvation? This
salvation, which was first announced by the
Lord, was confirmed to us by those who
heard him. God also testified to it by signs,
wonders and various miracles, and gifts of
the Holy Spirit distributed according to his
            will.

  • 22. pg. 22 I Corinthians 14:26-32 What then shall we say, brothers? When you come together, everyone has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. All of these must be done for the strengthening of the church. If anyone speaks in a tongue, two—or at the most three—should speak, one at a time, and someone must interpret. If there is no interpreter, the speaker should keep quiet in the church and speak to himself and God. Two or three prophets should speak, and the others should weigh carefully what is said. And if a revelation comes to someone who is sitting down, the first speaker should stop. For you can all prophesy in turn so that everyone may be instructed and encouraged. • 39. pg. 39 I Corinthians 14:1-5,14,15 Follow the way of love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophecy. For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God. Indeed, no one understands him; he utters mysteries with his spirit. But everyone who prophesies speaks to men for their strengthening, encouragement and comfort. He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church. I would like every one of you to speak in tongues, but I would rather have you prophesy. He who prophesies is greater than one who speaks in tongues, unless he interprets, so that the church may be edified. For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful. So what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my mind; I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my mind. Created with Print2PDF.
