1. Honda Wins Award from Cars.com
According to Patrick Olsen, the editor-in-chief of the website cars.com, nearly one in six of new
cars sold is a midsize sedan. The people behind cars.com, who pride themselves on providing
excellent advice and insight to their customers, have created a contest in which to find the
most superior midsize family sedan on the market. It's called the Midsize Sedan Showdown and
the winner for the year of 2013 is the Honda Accord.
Contest Requirements
The Midsize Sedan Showdown requires the six midsize sedans that compete against each other
to be available at a retail price of $26,000 or less. They must also be capable of a 28 mpg or
better combined EPA-rated fuel economy. The other sedans that competed against the 2013
Honda Accord were the 2012 Toyota Camry, 2013 Ford Fusion, 2013 Hyundai Sonata, 2013
Nissan Altima and 2013 Kia Optima. All six were deemed as the most popular sedans on the
market.
Tests and Judgments
Deciding which sedan won the Midsize Sedan Showdown is quite a time-consuming process.
The judges of the contest include experts from cars.com, USA Today, the magazine "Motor
Week" as well as a family who represents the average midsize sedan shopper. The tests include
185 miles of driving on different roads to gauge each car's actual fuel mileage, a day of round-
robin driving, where each sedan was tested on the same course, and a day of the family testing
2. the sedans out. The latter test is to receive an opinion that would likely reflect the average
sedan buyer's experience.
Contest Results
The various judges were appraising the six cars based on their fuel efficiency, practicality,
driving ability, comfort, and features. At the end of the competition, the 2013 Honda Accord
was deemed the most superior sedan. Patrick Olsen released a statement that said, "The
Accord is one of the oldest and most trusted midsize sedans on the market. With each redesign,
the Accord continues to get better. The 2013 won our Showdown because of its high-end
standard features, value for the money and great driving characteristics."
What This Means for the Honda Accord
The Midsize Sedan Showdown doesn't just serve as a means to help the customer find the right
sedan. It is also a form of advertising for the car itself, making the public aware of its
exceptional status. This isn't the first time that a Honda car has won this competition. It is
actually the fifth, with various other models such as the Odyssey, Pilot and CR-V winning past
contests. Due to the position of cars.com as a top online source for buying and researching new
and used cars, this only continues to cement the Honda's position as a car both popular and
efficient.
Michael Accavitti, the vice president of Honda's marketing operations, echoes this sentiment by
stating, "The consistent strength of Honda products in these shootouts supports our strong
position with in-market customers." The people at Honda made a press release to detail the
Accord's win: http://www.hondanews.com/channels/honda-automobiles/releases/2013-
