About the Southern Baptist Convention's Cooperative Program

2. Dr. Ronnie Floyd, president of the Southern Baptist
Convention, also serves as senior pastor of Cross
Church in Arkansas. There, Dr. Ronnie Floyd has led his
congregation to become the top Cooperative
Program contributor across the state and 18th
nationwide.
Founded in 1925, the Cooperative Program of the
Southern Baptist Convention strives to pool the
resources of Convention churches in an effort to fund
its missions. The program came about in response to
a lack of resources within the organization, which
had previously depended on offering appeals within
individual churches.
3. The 75 Million Campaign of 1919 aimed
to reduce the deficit with a five-year
fund-raising plan that, though it failed to
meet its goals, showed the Convention
the value of large-scale appeals.
Since the official establishment of the
Cooperative Program, members of
Convention churches have given to the
organization a portion of their income.
4. Churches then determine the amount
that they can conceivably donate to
mission programs around the world. Each
state's annual meeting then determines
which program funds remain local and
which go to national and international
ministries. In turn, the national annual
meeting officially distributes those funds
to benefit programs most in need.
