11. This resource is designed to be used in
three ways
1. As a signpost to good practice with regard to accessible
documents in an educational context. This includes reading
documents online, converting documents, creating
accessible PDFs, dealing with images, creating audio, finding
free assistive technology tools etc.
2. As a referencing tool, this website helps you to find key
contact details for the publisher you require either through
the alphabetic lists or via the search dialogue.
3. As communication tool, this website provides a direct email
link to the appropriate department and supplies a pre -
agreed subject line to ensure your email is appropriately
identified and delivered.
Link advisors with particular responsibility for liaising with a groups of supported institutions / Generic advisors with specialisms / Transition advisor/s interim appointments during transitional period.

The session will provide people with a chance to become familiar with strategies to make the most of everyday resources that are on our computers to enhance productivity and to promote personalisation.
The session will be based on the new offering from JISC Techdis called the 'Techdis Toolbox'.
The TechDis Toolbox is a collection of resources which give useful hints and tips on technologies that can help individuals work smarter. It is aimed directly at the end users - learners.

I will go over some of the new resources, explain how/why they would be of interest and the sessin will provide those attending to 'take some time out' to learn more about them and consider how they would be of interest to learners.
I will also raise awarness of some of the new action research developments JISC have been involved in via the Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI) which will consider the introduction of new technologies over the next few years to promote personalistation of information and to enhance the provision of information in alternative formats.

Many people find it difficult to access the world of books. Whether through dyslexia, visual impairment literacy or ESOL issues,
Thousands of ‘would be’ readers are destined to be ‘unable to’ readers.
However, commonplace technologies can transform access to books. Where librarians and publishers work together to provide digital copies to disabled users, magnification, colour change, keyboard access and text to speech can transform the reading experience giving genuine independence to the user.
This website receives over 4000 hits a week
Next development will be to add a feedback mechanism to comment on the quality of the service from publishers
Improve liaison wih publishers about alternative formats
Newcastle Under Lyme College had contacted a publisher about a publication in alt formats. They waited over 3 weeks to hear from a publisher re a request - not even acknowledgement email. Weren't aware of Publisher Lookup and contacted Alistair McNaught re advice. Using the advice from Alistair and the resources within publisher lookup - within 20 mins of request from they had the pdf.
Influence reading lists
Librarian in an educational establishment in Oxford uses this as a reference when talking to tutors.
when you are creating your reading lists - these publishers are really responsive and these publishers are not responsive
Some publishers are MUCH more responsive than others so advise academic staff on reading lists and which publishers to avoid.
