2. Recap
• The Holy Spirit does great works on our
behalf
– He sends our prayers to God the Father
– He teaches us about the difference of sin and
righteousness
– He convinces us that we must yield unto God
– He gives us talents and gifts
4/28/2012 2
3. Remember
• The entire throne of God works on our
behalf
• So that we may be an acceptable offering
unto God the Father
• We must also participate in our own
salvation
4/28/2012 3
4. In addition
• The Holy Spirit has many symbols
– Water
– Rain
– Fire
– Lightning
– Wind
– Dove
• These help explain a work he does on our
behalf
4/28/2012 4
5. Water
• It was discussed how the Holy Spirit is like
water
• He is everywhere
• We are like plants
• We need that water to grow, develop and
bare fruit of righteousness
4/28/2012 5
6. Fire
• Just like water was necessary for the
preparations of the offerings during the
Levitical priesthood Leviticus 1:3-4, 9
• Fire was necessary
• During the Pentecost with the Apostles
• Fire was present Acts 2: 1-3
4/28/2012 6
7. Fire
• It is one of the most dangerous forces on
earth
– You can swim in a pool of water you can’t
swim in a pool of fire
• It is necessary for every day life
– If you enjoy eating, using electricity, driving or
having a warm house in the winter
4/28/2012 7
8. Fire
• Used to purify
• To refine
• Heal
• To bring forth life
4/28/2012 8
9. Fire
• It is special because it changes matter
• On the molecular level
• That is why the soft dough will have a
harden crust on the outside and tender
bread on the inside
• Atoms were rearranged
– Some changed position
– Others simply removed
– To form something completely new!

12. Let us look deeper
4/28/2012 Microscopic view of sand 12
13. Glass
• See how fire changes a substance
4/28/2012 13
14. Fire
• What does that have to do with us
• We were changed on the molecular level
from the garden
• Evil and death are now in our DNA
• They were never suppose to be there
4/28/2012 14
15. Fire and the Holy Ghost
• That mutation has caused us to have
impurities
• That keep us from being what we were
intended to be from the beginning
• We have to go through the fire to be
acceptable unto God the Father
4/28/2012 15
16. In a volume of a book
• Where is the evidence of this
• Malachi 3: 1-3
• Ecclesiasticus 2: 1, 5
4/28/2012 16
17. We are like…
• Gold
• Iron
• Silver
• God compared us to these metals for a
reason
4/28/2012 17
22. Is it possible
• All things are possible through God
• Remember we serve the God that sees all
and knows all
• He speaks and the waves stand still
• He speaks and the ground opens up
4/28/2012 22
24. The tiniest change
• Its funny what a little arranging can do
– The hormones that make men different from women
are essentially the same except for the top right
corner of the molecules
– That change is responsible for the differences
between the genders
• That’s what fire does
• It rearranges at the molecular level
• It removes atoms
• Causes bonds to be broken and made

25. Recall
• We are like iron and gold
• If we can understand how they are
processed
• We can then learn how we are refined
4/28/2012 Template copyright www.brainybetty.com 2005 25
26. Iron
• An abundant material
• That is essential for modern life
– No roads
– Or cars
– Bridges
– Large structures could exist
4/28/2012 Template copyright www.brainybetty.com 2005 26
27. Iron
• Unfortunately in its common state it is
bonded to oxygen, sulfur, phosphorus
• Which will change its properties
– Weakens
– Breaks the bond
– Making it useless
4/28/2012 Template copyright www.brainybetty.com 2005 27
28. We are like iron
• In our current state
– Sin is bonded to us
– It weakens us
– Changed us into something unacceptable to
God
• Just like oxygen holds tightly to iron until it
disintegrates
• Death and sin holds unto us
4/28/2012 Template copyright www.brainybetty.com 2005 28
31. Used to reinforce roads
4/28/2012 Template copyright www.brainybetty.com 2005 31
32. Nearly last forever like this…
4/28/2012 Template copyright www.brainybetty.com 2005 32
33. How??
• Though oxygen tries to hold tight to iron
• Fire can liberate iron from it
• Iron goes through an intense process
– It is melted
– It is beaten
– It is blasted with air
4/28/2012 Template copyright www.brainybetty.com 2005 33
34. The refiner’s fire
• The Holy Spirit will force us to see the
error of our ways
– Forcing us to see ourselves truly
– He will remove the blinding mask of pride
– We will see all of our defects and blemishes
• He will show us the Savior that we pierced
Zechariah 12:10
4/28/2012 Template copyright www.brainybetty.com 2005 34
35. There are examples of this
• Let us review
• Acts 2: 22-24, 36-39
• Acts 9: 1-6
• From those scriptures were they not
shown their wretchedness and corruption
• Let us also consider what Job said in Job
42: 1-6 when he saw his creator
4/28/2012 Template copyright www.brainybetty.com 2005 35
36. Purifying Flames
• They are required so we are willing to let
go of those things that make us corrupt
before God
• We have to hate that part of us so we can
be liberated from it!
• Hatred is liken to killing something
– Luke 14: 26-27 Romans 6: 6, 12-13
4/28/2012 Template copyright www.brainybetty.com 2005 36
37. Our part
• We all have to make sacrifices
• The physical offerings our ancestors made
were examples of what we must do
spiritually
– Psalms 51: 17, I Peter 2: 5
• Those sacrifices must go through the fire
– I Corinthians 3: 11-14
• In fact our entire life must be lived like a
living sacrifice
4/28/2012 Template copyright www.brainybetty.com 2005 37
38. Our savior’s words
• Matthew 16:24-27
• Matthew 10: 38
• What do these scriptures mean??
4/28/2012 Template copyright www.brainybetty.com 2005 38
39. Did you know
• That there are particular levels of heat
needed to liberate iron
• God knows what temperature to use for
his children
• This can differ from person to person
• What was necessary to make Peter follow
Jesus was different for Paul
4/28/2012 Template copyright www.brainybetty.com 2005 39
40. Iron to Steel
• Steel isn’t just iron
• Other metals are added in perfect
proportion
• So that it is strong, stable
• Usable for multiple applications
4/28/2012 Template copyright www.brainybetty.com 2005 40
41. Measurements
• The weights and proportions have to be
exact to a make the desirable steel
• We are no different
• Our God measures everything and his
measurement is perfect
• If the person in question does not measure
up they are not acceptable
• Daniel 5: 24-28, Job 28: 23-26
4/28/2012 Template copyright www.brainybetty.com 2005 41
42. Just as iron is measured
• God weighs us
• If we don’t come up to correct proportions
• We will be found wanting
• He will have something against us
– Revelations 2: 1-5
– You cannot leave any work of God undone or
you will not measure up
– Matthew 23: 23
4/28/2012 Template copyright www.brainybetty.com 2005 42
43. Our Goal
• To be accepted by our heavenly Father
• That will only occur if we are free from all
impurities (sin)
• The Holy Spirit will apply fire at the correct
temperature
– To ensure we see what sin is and the folly it
causes
– To make it easier for us to let go of it so that
we become what God intended us to be
4/28/2012 Template copyright www.brainybetty.com 2005 43
44. What we must do
• Put God first in everything we do
• Know that just like iron or gold that is
made to a better materiel in a furnace
• We will encounter trials, tests and other
situations
– That we may not understand
– But if we lean upon Lord Jesus
– We will be stronger and accepted by God in
the end
