Applying the Bible 2
What does the Bible say about ghosts and spirits?
2. ✤ “Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into
His hands, and that He had come from God and was
going to God,”
(John 13:3, NKJV)
✤ “So you shall not pollute the land where you are; for
blood defiles the land, . . . . .”
(Numbers 35:33, NKJV)
2
Sin can pollute and leave its mark on
physical things
3. ✤ “‘Give no regard to mediums and familiar spirits; do not
seek after them, to be defiled by them: I am the Lord your
God.”
(Leviticus 19:31, NKJV)
3
God prohibits us from trying to contact or use
spiritual powers unless it is through Jesus
4. ✤ Jesus said: “When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he
goes through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none,
he says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’
And when he comes, he finds it swept and put in order.
Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more
wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and
the last state of that man is worse than the first.”
(Luke 11:24–26, NKJV)
4
Attempting to contact or use the spirit world
is like opening a door to invite the spirits to
occupy your house or body
5. ✤ “Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you
completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be
preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus
Christ.”
(1 Thessalonians 5:23, NKJV)
5
Man is made in the image of God
3 natures: body, soul, spirit
6. ✤ “His spirit departs, he returns to his earth; In that very
day his plans perish.” (Psalm 146:4, NKJV)
✤ “In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread Till you
return to the ground, For out of it you were taken; For
dust you are, And to dust you shall return.”” (Genesis
3:19, NKJV)
6
When a person dies their spirit and soul leave
the body and this physical world
7. ✤ “And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this
the judgement,”
(Hebrews 9:27, NKJV)
7
Man dies once and then awaits the
Final Judgement
8. ✤ “I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive
forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of
Death.” (Revelation 1:18, NKJV)
✤ “And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All
authority has been given to Me in heaven and on
earth.” (Matthew 28:18, NKJV)
✤ “For to this end Christ died and rose and lived again, that
He might be Lord of both the dead and the
living.” (Romans 14:9, NKJV)
8
No departed spirit/soul can return to the
physical world unless it is permitted by Jesus
9. ✤ The appearance of the real spirit/soul of Samuel is unique
in Scripture.
✤ This incident can not be used to justify consulting
spiritualists, mediums, fortune tellers because Saul’s
action was condemned.
✤ The woman was expecting one of her “familiar” spirits to
appear, instead God allowed the real Samuel to appear
shocking the woman. 1 Sam. 28:11-12
9
1 Samuel 28: Saul consults a medium, someone
who communicates with spirits
10. ✤ If the information about the future does not come from
God it can only come from evil spirits.
✤ The demonic spirits want people to accept a path of life
determined by them.
✤ Truth is mixed with lies to make the deception more
powerful.
10
Wanting to know the future
11. ✤ God has a plan for your life and He will reveal it as you
need to know it. He wants you to trust Him.
✤ “For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus
to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us
to do.”
Ephesians 2:10
11
Wanting to know the future
12. ✤ All people have a measure of protection by God’s grace.
✤ This protection ends if people seek to contact the spirit
world.
✤ Those who have Christ in their lives and are walking in
obedience have nothing to fear from evil spirits.
✤ Jesus has given all believers His authority to bind and cast
out evil spirits.
12
Are we in any danger from evil spirits?
13. ✤ Then the seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the
demons are subject to us in Your Name.”
And He said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from
heaven. Behold, I give you the authority to trample on
serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy,
and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject
to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in
heaven.”
(Luke 10:17–20, NKJV)
13
Jesus has given us authority to help those
oppressed by evil
