10. Andrea Sachs is fresh out of college and eager to
build up her resume in order to land her dream job
at the New Yorker, even if it means working for the
ruthless editor-in-chief, Miranda Priestly, at the
fashion magazine Runway. Although everyone keeps
telling her that a “million girls would kill” for this
position, Andrea soon realizes that working for
Miranda will be one of the hardest jobs she’ll ever
had. Bringing her warm lattes, delivering her dry
cleaning, scoring a copy of the latest Harry Potter
before it hits the bookstore shelves, and having a
skirt flown to Paris the same night are only a few of
the tasks Andrea must accomplish as a rookie in the
field. The book’s continual romp through the
frivolity of the fashion industry provides the reader
with countless humorous and absurd incidences that
eventually help Andrea to see what is really
important: the boyfriend, friends, and family that
she has blindly neglected in the spirit of getting
ahead in her career. Although Andrea doesn’t end
up back with her boyfriend at the end, she has
learned valuable lessons in her personal and
professional life.

The Devil Wears Prada is a 2006 comedy-
drama film, a loose screen adaptation of
Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 novel of the same
name. It stars Anne Hathaway as Andy Sachs,
a recent college graduate who goes to New
York City and gets a job as a co-assistant to
powerful and demanding fashion magazine
editor Miranda Preistley, played by Meryl
Streep; the film was distributed by 20th
Century Fox.
13. On its opening weekend, the film was on
2,847 screens. It grossed $27 million, second
only to the much bigger-budget Superman
Returns, and added $13 million more during
the first week. This success led Fox to add 35
more screens the next week, the widest
domestic distribution the film enjoyed.
Although it was never any week's top-grossing
film, it remained in the top 10 through July.
Its theatrical run continued through December
10, shortly before the DVD release.
It had a very successful run in theaters,
making nearly $125 million domestically and
over $325 million worldwide, a career high
for Meryl Streep, until Mamma Mia was
released in 2008 and surpassed it.

21. ANNA S. (SanJoseCa) wrote on

A light-hearted entertaining story,
with an unbelievably naive and
flaky main character. The novel is
witty, humorous and fast-paced,
with many reference to the film
"Roman Holiday."
Modern English girl has a
reliable boyfriend, but when her
handsome, dashing ex-
boyfriend reappears in her life
and invites her to Rome for the
weekend, she impulsively
decides to accept. An easy
chick-lit read, but the stupidity
of the main character was kind
of annoying.

22. Funny and light. Another story about a
misguided but mostly well-meaning young
woman. If you like Sophie Kinsella's books,
you'll probably like Gemma Townley's, too.

to go to Rome. Also highly reminded me of
Roman Holiday with Audrey Hepburn.
