4. In What Ways is Salvation, “Begun”?
• Heaven is “opened” (10:19-20), but distance remains
– Heaven has been “purified” (9:23)
– This is initiatory (cf. 9:18), just beginning what is to
become routine
– A Man now sits in glory on our behalf (cf. 2:10)

– Repeated exhortation to “draw near”
– Cf. 4:16 / 7:19 / 7:25 / 10:1 / 10:22 / 11:6
– Jesus sits “before God’s face,” that God’s face might
“shine upon us”

• The drama has started, but we’re between “acts”
– We have witnessed two of three “appearances”
– 9:26 – once, at the end (climax) of time, to put away sin
– 9:24 – in heaven itself, in presence of God, on our behalf
– 9:28 – not to deal with sin, but to bring salvation

• “for those eagerly waiting” (i.e., expectantly)

– We “have been sanctified” (perfect passive participle)
– We “have been perfected” (present active indicative)
– Though presently, we “are being sanctified” (pres. pass.)
• Note the purpose of Christ’s sacrifice – not just to get us out of
Cf. 12:4 hell, but to reconcile us to God (2 Cor 5:20 / cf. John 4:34 / 6:38)
• I will put my laws in their heart and write them on their minds
