1. Do you think the settings used were intriguing for a thriller?
Yes- 21
No- 0
Reasons:
•I think the shed was a good location to
have the young victim in because it shows
how she is isolated and helpless.
•The graveyard in particular was intriguing
because it created a sense of eeriness.
•I liked the graveyard; It was different
seeing an author write in such a location.
•Interesting location but you could have
filmed at night to make it more spooky.
•Arguing that another girl said, it was
authentic to film during the day, because
the woman was writing.
2. 2) Could you distinguish between reality and the writer’s
imagination?
Yes- 19
No-2
Reasons:
•Yes- the inter-flashing
segments were a pretty good
way of establishing imagination
vs. reality.
•Yes it was clear because the
black and white was used for
the imagination.
•No- I thought it was a journal of
past events.

the end is the very same man she was writing about?
Yes- 20

Separate worlds.

to follow the story
5. After watching the thriller, how would you describe the
antagonist?
• Scary and manipulative.
• Cruel and unhinged.
• Creepy ( came up several times)
• Threatening and ominous- especially through the shots of the footsteps.
• He could come across as comical at times. However, in the last shot he looked especially
scary.

and hairstyle?

convincing.
•No- she looked a
bit like she was
insane.
7. Does the music work with the story and its timing?
Column2
Yes-21
No-0
•Yes I liked it a lot but
it could have got
faster towards the
climax.
•It was effective
because it added to
the eeriness of the
film. ( most people
mentioned this)
•It gives a sense of
tension throughout.
•Yes, without a thick
texture, it makes the
remote bleakness of
the topic matter.
8. Is the voice-over useful and interesting to narrate the story?
Sales
Yes- 19
No-2
•Yes especially given its
vagueness ( you haven’t
mentioned anything too
early)
•Very necessary to entice
us into the story. It felt as
if we were being drawn
into the story itself.
•Unusual but effective
way to open.
•Was intriguing and drive
the story forward.
•I think the voice-over
may have been too much.
•The voice-over wasn’t as
noticeable.
9. Do you feel like the opening sequence gives too much or too
little information about the rest of the film?
Too much-3
Too little-3
Just enough-15
10. What do you like about my opening?
• Creative and unusual way to open a film.
• I especially liked that it was set in a graveyard because it added to the eeriness.
• Intriguing.
• The man created a sense of eeriness- This sense of eeriness is consistent throughout the
film.
• That it was a story-within-a-story.
• It looked very good, especially the black and white sections.
• Interesting storyline.
• Suspense- especially when we see the man’s footsteps getting closer to the girl.
11. Would you recommend anything I could improve on such as
lighting, camerawork, editing and location and props (mise en
scene)
• The music could get faster towards the climax.
• Include more props
• Possibly avoid revealing the man too early, show his full face
only at the end.
• More scenes of the abused girl.
• Zooming in wasn’t all professional in one of the sections.
• Wouldn’t recommend anything- the setting and music of the
clip helps give the general feel of the movie which is what I
look for in an opening.
