2. “Being a Thought Leader means keeping
ahead of where you, your team &
your business are heading.”
This means that you need to keep ahead of
trends, working with others, idea generation,
keeping up-to-date with what’s going on in
your sector and looking at other
interdisciplinary-sectors progression.
3. 1. Stay Ahead of the Game/Do Your Research:
Technology is readily accessible and there is a world
of information waiting to be discovered at the click
of a mouse. There has never been a better and
easier time to keep ahead of what’s happening.
Look at trend predictions for your sector.
Read the latest trade journals
Connect with contacts via social media & blogs to
see what they have to say.
Make sure that you follow key market leaders and
trend analysts in your field of work as they will know
better than anyone what is coming next.
4. 2. Lead by Example:
“If you have a new idea, trail it.
If you want to try a new marketing
campaign then make it happen”.
Once you see yourself as a Thought Leader,
willing to take controlled risks to stay at the fore-
front of your sector, your competitors will realise
that you mean business & your staff will start to
see that all that thinking isn’t just talk; it’s leading
the way to your company’s ultimate success.
5. 3. Be Confident
To be a leader you:
Have to believe in your ideas & plans
sometimes without having an example to
follow.
Need to be able to motivate a team of
people to believe that your idea will work.
(The best way to do this is through actions &
positive team leading & attitude).
“If something you suggested worked
before people are more willing to go
with future plans. So throw yourself into
whatever it is that you are doing!”
6. 4. Listen to Others
While you are coming up with ideas, make
sure that you take the time to listen to
others in your organisation. They have ideas
to & these combined with yours could lead
to results better than you could ever
imagine!
Keeping people involved also means that
they are more likely to back your latest idea
& remember they are going to be the ones
who have to implement your idea & work
through the practicalities long after you
have moved onto the next thing.
7. 5. Be Willing to Accept Mistakes &
Celebrate Successes
You need to be able to admit when something
that you suggested or trailed wasn’t right.
Being wrong isn’t a bad thing as long as learn
from it. By admitting your mistake people will
accept and trust your future ideas.
If something goes well celebrate this with your
team! Keeping them involved & excited is key to
building a positive & happy team, who will
continue to build up your company to bigger &
better things.
