The term most often refers to activities that integrate technology, social interaction, and the construction of words, pictures, videos and audio. This interaction, and the manner in which information is presented, depends on the varied perspectives and "building" of shared meaning among communities, as people share their stories and experiences. Social media can take many different forms, including Internet  forums ,  blogs ,  wikis ,  podcasts ,  pictures  and  video .

However, you must keep in mind that whatever you put online will be searchable and accessible to anyone on the web. There were over 50 social networking sites using the  Circle of Friends  in 2005 when one such online community,  MySpace, was getting more page views than Google . Blended networking is an approach to social networking that combines both offline elements (face-to-face events) and online elements .  Facebook  was originally designed to mirror a  college community , though it has since expanded its scope to include high school, job-related, and regional networks.  The newest social networks on the Internet are becoming more focused on niches such as travel, art, tennis, football (soccer), golf, cars, dog owners, and even cosmetic surgery. Stefanie Ainge Hahn – Rev. 11/2008 SAH Set up your Facebook Profile Now that you’ve created your account, it’s time to set up your profile. Your profile is what friends and family will see about you on Facebook. It reflects all the things they know about you in real life, and anything else you want to tell them about yourself. Your Facebook profile is not about altering who you are but rather representing yourself. What information best expresses who you are? Start with the basics To edit your profile at any time, click on the “Edit Information” link at the upper right corner of your Basic Info or click on the “edit” icons on the upper right corner of each of your profile fields. Each profile information section represents what people will see when they arrive at your profile. Start by filling out the info that will help people identify you—Basic, Education, Work, and Picture.

Clicking on Profile will take you to your facebook profile. Clicking on Friends will show you all of your friends. Clicking on Inbox will allow you to view, send and receive email through Facebook. Clicking on your name will also take you to your profile. Clicking on Settings will take you to the profile and privacy settings (more on this later). Below the blue menu bar ... Click on your photo to go to your profile. Type in the “what are you doing now” box to update your status (built-in micro-blogging)!!! Each tab is a different feed: News Feed  – tells you anything new and notable within your network Status Updates  – see everyone in your networks answer to “what are you doing now”. Photos  – Facebook is the LARGEST photo sharing website online (more photos are uploaded here than anywhere else online) ... see photos that your friends have recently uploaded here Posted Items  – see what items your friends are posting (videos, blogs, NEW LISTINGS) Live Feed  - will show you all of the above together ...

Just under your photo –  View Photos of Me  will show any photos you are tagged in – only your friends can tag you in a photo.  You can remove a tag at any time. Click  Edit My Profile  to edit your profile information. A snapshot of your information and a snapshot of your friends appear below.

Control who sees your photos HERE – click  Album Privacy Click  Create a Photo Album  to add photos. Your friends can comment on your photos.  Click  View Comments  see what they have said.

This rule also applies to your spouse, children, boss, etc.  That line that has always existed between your work life and your personal life is getting blurrier by the day ... remember  The Mother Rule .
Stefanie Ainge Hahn – Rev. 11/2008 SAH Because you may not want to share everything with everyone, it’s a good idea to visit the  “Settings”  on your profile. - Click on Settings - Click on Privacy Settings
Stefanie Ainge Hahn – Rev. 11/2008 SAH Basic Privacy Settings Click Profile under Privacy  to reach this page – where you can control who will see what information. Click  Edit Custom Settings  to lock out a specific person or group of people from seeing that section of information on your profile. Always  Save Changes!

Stefanie Ainge Hahn – Rev. 11/2008 SAH 2.  Share Links  – Share links to your listings, virtual tours and more.  Use the Post option  to let your Facebook friends know about a new listing, price changes, or even an update to your personal website. You can post the URL for your listing fairly easily. If you are using Postlets, Realtor.com or even your microsite, each listing has it's own unique URL if you drill down far enough. A link to your virtual tour is simple to add as well in this section.

Upload your property photos and include info about the home in the album information. You even have the option to share the album with folks that are not on Facebook! 3.  Photo Albums  – Create a Photo Album for each listing you have and post them on Facebook.

Coldwell Banker  became the  first national real estate brand  to market a listing in the  3-D virtual  world of Second Life. This initiative affords SecondLife.com users anywhere in the world access to virtually tour a $3.1 million listing in Mercer Island, Washington. Consumers are demanding more and more photos of listings, access to video tours and craving as much as real estate firms and sales associate can provide in the up front portion of the home buying and selling process. Your profile is what friends and family will see about you on Facebook. It reflects all the things they know about you in real life, and anything else you want to tell them about yourself. Your Facebook profile is not about altering who you are but rather representing yourself. What information best expresses who you are? Start with the basics To edit your profile at any time, click on the “Edit Information” link at the upper right corner of your Basic Info or click on the “edit” icons on the upper right corner of each of your profile fields. Each profile information section represents what people will see when they arrive at your profile. Start by filling out the info that will help people identify you—Basic, Education, Work, and Picture.

Clicking on Profile will take you to your facebook profile. Clicking on Friends will show you all of your friends. Clicking on Inbox will allow you to view, send and receive email through Facebook. Clicking on your name will also take you to your profile. Clicking on Settings will take you to the profile and privacy settings (more on this later). Below the blue menu bar ... Click on your photo to go to your profile. Type in the “what are you doing now” box to update your status (built-in micro-blogging)!!! Each tab is a different feed: News Feed – tells you anything new and notable within your network Status Updates – see everyone in your networks answer to “what are you doing now”. Photos – Facebook is the LARGEST photo sharing website online (more photos are uploaded here than anywhere else online) ... see photos that your friends have recently uploaded here Posted Items – see what items your friends are posting (videos, blogs, NEW LISTINGS) Live Feed - will show you all of the above together ...

Just under your photo – View Photos of Me will show any photos you are tagged in – only your friends can tag you in a photo. You can remove a tag at any time. Click Edit My Profile to edit your profile information. A snapshot of your information and a snapshot of your friends appear below.

Use the Post option to let your Facebook friends know about a new listing, price changes, or even an update to your personal website. You can post the URL for your listing fairly easily. If you are using Postlets, Realtor.com or even your microsite, each listing has it's own unique URL if you drill down far enough. A link to your virtual tour is simple to add as well in this section.

Upload your property photos and include info about the home in the album information. You even have the option to share the album with folks that are not on Facebook! 3.
