Throughout the spectrum of engineering work processes which are ongoing in the design of a plant, there is an urgent need to maintain data consistency because of the iterative nature of the design process. Intergraph applications and the mechanisms employed for integrating information help solve this problem. One of the key elements necessary for integrated plant design is the ability for streamlining the flow of information from schematic design to detailed 3D modeling. With PDS, data created in the upstream conceptual and schematic design phases DRIVES the downstream detailed engineering process. In the following slides we will take a look at some of the detailed engineering tasks and highlight how these tasks are integrated with information from the schematics applications.

Some of the other interesting products that Intergraph has: Computer-Aided Dispatch – In many counties in the US when someone dials the emergency number 911, Intergraph software comes into play. The first picture that you see is that of a Call-Taker sitting in front of an Intergraph software workstation with dual monitors. The Call Taker verifies that the incoming call is really an emergency (it seems that more than 70% of the calls that come to 911 are not real emergencies, and in such cases the call taker advises the callers to call the appropriate agencies). Once it is established that the call represents a real emergency, the Call Taker accepts the call and the event automatically appears on the workstation of the Dispatcher . The Dispatcher looks at the nature of the emergency – Police, Medical or Fire – identifies the appropriate agency units that are visible (on the map display) in the locality, and assigns the incident to the agency and unit(s). Intergraph software, then, automatically, sends out Pager messages/ Alarms/ Radio messages/ Text messages/ SMSs/ other kind of alerts to the identified units. The second pictures shows a police car which has a mobile display unit which receives such an message. The units them respond to the Emergency. Police and Jail Management – Intergraph handles the whole life-cycle of the crime. From the time a crime incident is recorded by a Call Taker, Intergraph’s Police Record Management system can be used to record all the crime-investigation details – including crime evidence, suspect information, witness depositions, etc. – till the suspect is convicted or released. Once a suspect has been convicted, Intergraph’s Jail Management software can take over and handle all the activities related to the incarceration of the jail mate till the time of his/her release from Jail. Video Analyst – Another very interesting product from Intergraph is the Video Analyst. This product helps process video images so that appropriate clarity and clues can be obtained for identifying suspects. The third picture in the slide shows a case where a series a convenience store robberies were reported in the US. The two pictures of the suspect in the picture were very unclear and not very suitable for convicting the suspect. However, Intergraph’s Video Analyst provided the ability to extract some feature information which was used to convict the suspect. It enhanced the pictures and could measure the size of the spectacles, some features on the jacket of the suspect and the size of the boots worn by the offender. Based on this information and other circumstantial evidence the police was able to obtain conviction of the suspect in Court. These are all examples of some of the software products on which Intergraph Consulting teams work jointly with development teams in the US.
