6. Please explain why you are applying for this vacancy and how your transferable skills,
experience and achievements are relevant to the job.
Having provided financial and administrative support in a range of professional setting,
coupled with my relevant skills outlined below, I match the person specification for this
position.
I have considerable experience of planning and managing people, projects, activities
and resources. These activities include line management and delegation; meeting
secretariat, including minute taking; public relations and arranging promotional events;
customer relations and sourcing new clients. Most recently I have been responsible for
creating and implementing budgeting strategies, sourcing and managing office
resources and organising, leading and shadowing in meetings. I have also developed
problem solving skills relating to project, time and task management.
Having taught at schools, universities and in public relations; I have developed natural
and confident presentation and communication skills. My experience of working in
different teams has taught me the importance of building a rapport with people from
differing social and cultural backgrounds. I have achieved this by clearly communicating
my ideas and intentions whilst being sympathetic and understanding of others needs. I
have a track record of dealing with disputes in the workplace. I have regularly been
selected to train and mentor new members of staff; I have led staff development
seminars whilst working in China.
I have acquired the skills to motivate and manage individuals whilst promoting a strong
team ethic. From my experience of working as part of a team and under managers,
making difficult decisions can lead to tension. I have developed the ability to
communicate decisions to team members in a manner which is both firm and
understanding. I am aware of the value of cooperation in all situations so as to facilitate
policy and procedural implementation.
I have an excellent attendance record and have been afforded positions of responsibility
which require a high degree of trust. These have included handling personal sensitive
information, responsibility for accounting and billing information, representing companies
with clients, responsibility for dispute resolutions and involvement in recruitment
processes. Most recently I have been responsible for handling student visa and
university applications.
I am well versed in all aspects of the Microsoft Office package having used them in
numerous professional and non professional settings. I am especially familiar with Word,
Excel, Explorer, Power Point and Access. I am also familiar with the Macintosh computer
format.
I am fluent in Welsh and intermediate in Chinese. My ability to speak Chinese would
prove invaluable as from personal experience I have noticed the high frequency of
Chinese groups visiting the museum.
I have a valid clean driving license and access to transport. I also have a recent
Criminal Record Bureau Check (October 2010).
I take a keen interest in Welsh history and history in general. Coupled with my
willingness and ability to both help and communicate with others – I have no doubt that I
would excel in this position.
