What is
                          Cloud Computing?

Definition

 Wikipedia - a style of computing in which dynamically
scalable and often virtualized resources are provided as
a service over the Internet. Users need not have
knowledge of, expertise in, or control over the
technology infrastructure in the "cloud" that supports
   them.

 Academic (simple) - provide on-demand resources or
services over a network, often the Internet, with the
scale and reliability of a data center.

 Mine – distributed mainframe, reachable form any
   device connected to the internet

Oracle definition ;-)

  “...we’ve redefined Cloud Computing to
include everything that we already do...
I don’t understand what we would do
differently ... other than change the
wording of some of our ads.”

Why now ? Why not now ?

   No standard definition.
   No standard architectures.
 Cloud architectures are not new.
   What is new:
          Bandwidth
          Scale
          Ease of use

SaaS - Software delivery model

      Increasingly popular with SMEs

 Service delivered through a browser
      Examples:
             CRM
             Financial Planning
             Human Resources
             Word processing SaaS
      Commercial Services:
             Salesforce.com
             emailcloud

Cloud and the “security problem”
   The good news
 The cloud providers are better at security than we are
           (hey, it’s their specialty…)
   The bad news
          It’s a different ball game
          With bigger threats
