Himalayas: Chola Pass and Everest Base Camp 18-Day Trek Trekking Itinerary on
the blow:

Walk across the roof of the world on a comprehensive and challenging trek of the Cholo Pass, Goyko Lakes,
and Sagarmatha National Park. You will get stunning views of Mt. Everest and some of the other beasts of the
Himalayas visit the Everest Base Camp and climb to the high altitude viewpoint of Kalapatter. Go to the
Tengboche Monastery, pass through the Sherpa villages of the lower mountains, and discover one of the
highest settlements in the world.
Day 1: Kathmandu - Lukla - Phakdhing (Trek: 4 Hours) (B,L,D)
Take an early morning flight to Lukla, enjoying spectacular views of the peaks of Gauri Shankar and the
Himalayan mountains en route. Then, head north trekking along the bank of the Dudh Kosi (Milk River). End
with a meandering walk along the level paths of the Sherpa villages to Phakding. Spend the night at a
guesthouse.
(Altitude: 2,850-2,610 Meters / 9,350-8,563 Feet)
Day 2: Phakdhing - Namche Bazaar (Trek: 6 Hours) (B,L,D)
Cross several bridges of the Dudh Kosi River as you trek via Jorsalle. Then, climb a steep ascent to the Sherpa
capital of Namche Bazaar, with panoramic Everest views through the pine forest. Marvel at the alpine flowers
en route. Upon arrival, explore the facilities of Namche Bazaar, one of the best equipped towns of the region,
with bakeries, internet cafés, money exchange stores, and a museum. Now is a good time to purchase any last
minute equipment for your trek.

Day 3: Namche Bazaar (B,L,D)
Today is an acclimatization day so you will rest up in Namche Bazaar. Use the day for gentle hikes to
Khumjung, Thomo, or Khunde village above Namche Bazaar.

Day 4: Namche - Dole (Trek: 7 Hours) (B,L,D)
Depart Namche for a gentle trek, walking to Sanasa before climbing to Mong La. Then, trek back down to
Phortse Tenga, passing birch and pine trees. Look out for musk deer on the way up to Dole above the tree line.
(Altitude: 4,040 Meters / 13,255 Feet)
Day 05: Dole - Machharmo (Trek: 4 Hours) (B,L,D)
Hike the alpine meadows and yak pasture of the Highlands on a 4-hour trek from Dole to Machharmo. Look
for the native bird life and marvel at the mountain flowers, enjoying stunning views of Cho Oyu to the north.
Although this is a short walk, due to the altitude you will stop at Machharmo for your overnight rest.

Day 6: Machharmo - Gokyo (Trek: 4 Hours) (B,L,D)
Walk north into the Dhudkosi Valley via Fanga, then admire the waterfalls as you get your first views of the
Gokyo Lakes.
(Altitude: 4,790 Meters / 15,715 Feet)
Day 7: Gokyo (B,L,D)
Enjoy a day at rest, and explore the Goyko Lakes, the world’s highest freshwater lake system. Take an early
morning hike up Gokyo ri for 360-degree views of Everest and Makalu among other mighty mountains of the
Himalayas. Return to Gokyo to explore the 5th lake and the Nagjumba Glacier.

Day 8: Gokyo - Dragnag (Trek: 4 Hours) (B,L,D)
Depart Gokyo along the same path, passing the 3rd lake before turning east over the glacier. Then, take a short
walk to Dragnag for your overnight stay.
(Altitude: 4,700 Meters / 15,420 Feet)
Day 9: Dragnag - Cho La - Dzonglha (Trek: 9 Hours) (B,L,D)
Today is a hard day’s trek so you will make an early morning start, taking a packed lunch to enjoy on the up
hill stretches. Heading east, clamber over boulders and enjoy some steep and challenging climbs up to the Cho
La Pass. Always packed with ice, you may need to trek through deep snow en route to Dzonglha.

Day 10: Dzonglha - Lobuche (Trek: 5 Hours) (B,L,D)
Continue your epic adventure heading southeast then north to trek the Khumbu Valley to Lobuche. Pass
settlements such as Pheriche, a former farming region for yaks and potato. Today, many of its inhabitants are
employed as trekking guides and porters. Enjoy views of the small village and glacial lake of Dhugla, one of
the highest settlements in the world.

Day 11: Lobuche - Everest Base Camp - Ghorakshep (Trek: 9 Hours) (B,L,D)
Trek the Khumbu Valley alongside the Khumbu Glacier, and get breathtaking views of the dome of Pomo Ri.
Marvel at the towering peaks of Nuptse. Behind it is Everest. Stop at the Everest Base Camp to catch your
breath, then descend back to Gorakshep for an overnight stay.
(Altitude: 5,190 Meters / 17,027 Feet)
Day 12: Gharak Shep - Kalaptthar - Dingboche (Trek: 7 Hours) (B,L,D)
Wake early to take a sunrise hike to Kalapatter, one of the most spectacular viewpoints of the Everest region.
Enjoy panoramic vistas of the front of Mt. Everest and Pomo-Ri, before descending back down and on to
Dingboche via Dhugla.
(Altitude: 4,410 Meters / 14,468 Feet)
Day 13: Dingboche - Chhukung ri - Dingboche (B,L,D)
Today you will stay in the Dingboche region, taking a day pack for a gradual uphill hike to Chhukung. Then,
it’s a steep climb to Chhukung ri for panoramic 360-degree views of the sweep of the Himalayas. Walk back
down to Dhingboche for your overnight stay. You can also take a trip to the glacier or to the Imja Tse Valley,
surrounded by the awesome peaks of some of the Himalayan giants.

Day 14: Dingboche - Tengboche (Trek: 6 Hours) (B,L,D)
Leave behind the 360-degree views of the high Himalayas and begin your slow descent to Diebuche via
Pangboche. Climb up to the Tengboche Monastery in the Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World
Heritage Site for its “outstanding universal value.” The original gompa was built in 1916 but was destroyed by
an earthquake in 1934. Disaster struck again when the replacement building was burnt to the ground in 1989.
The new monastery was finished in 1994 and has a library, cultural center, and school for about 30 young
monks.

Day 15: Tengboche - Namche Bazaar (Trek: 6 Hours) (B,L,D)
Enjoy glorious views of Mt. Everest in the early morning light from just above the lodge. Then, start your trek
down to Phunki Tenga and back up to Namche Bazaar via the well developed settlement of Khumjung.
Day 16: Namche Bazaar - Phakdhing (Trek: 6 Hours) (B,L,D)
Trek on down through pine forest leaving Everest behind, and cross several bridges of the Dudkosi River into
the greener vegetation and farms of the Sherpa villages.
(Altitude: 2,610 Meters / 8,563 Feet)
Day 17: Phakdhing - Lukla (Trek: 4 Hours) (B,L,D)
The final stretch of your trek takes you along the shore of the Dudkosi River, passing a couple of villages en
route to Lukla and the end of your walk.
(Altitude: 2,850 Meters / 9,350 Feet)
Day 18: Lukla - Kathmandu
Fly back to Kathmandu from Lukla, enjoying aerial views of the mountains you have just been admiring from
below. Upon arrival in the city center, check into your hotel for a last dinner.

mountain for any reason

• Personal expenses (phone calls, laundry, bar bills, battery recharge, extra porters, bottle or boiled water,

Good to Know:
• The best time to take this tour is March-May and September-November
• Accommodation is in the traditional tea houses or guest lodges of the Himalayas

(Altitude: 3,450 Meters / 11,319 Feet) Day 4: Namche - Dole (Trek: 7 Hours) (B,L,D) Depart Namche for a gentle trek, walking to Sanasa before climbing to Mong La. Then, trek back down to Phortse Tenga, passing birch and pine trees. Look out for musk deer on the way up to Dole above the tree line. (Altitude: 4,040 Meters / 13,255 Feet) Day 05: Dole - Machharmo (Trek: 4 Hours) (B,L,D) Hike the alpine meadows and yak pasture of the Highlands on a 4-hour trek from Dole to Machharmo. Look for the native bird life and marvel at the mountain flowers, enjoying stunning views of Cho Oyu to the north. Although this is a short walk, due to the altitude you will stop at Machharmo for your overnight rest. (Altitude: 4,420 Meters / 14,500 Feet) Day 6: Machharmo - Gokyo (Trek: 4 Hours) (B,L,D) Walk north into the Dhudkosi Valley via Fanga, then admire the waterfalls as you get your first views of the Gokyo Lakes. (Altitude: 4,790 Meters / 15,715 Feet) Day 7: Gokyo (B,L,D) Enjoy a day at rest, and explore the Goyko Lakes, the world’s highest freshwater lake system. Take an early morning hike up Gokyo ri for 360-degree views of Everest and Makalu among other mighty mountains of the Himalayas. Return to Gokyo to explore the 5th lake and the Nagjumba Glacier.   • 3. Day 8: Gokyo - Dragnag (Trek: 4 Hours) (B,L,D) Depart Gokyo along the same path, passing the 3rd lake before turning east over the glacier. Then, take a short walk to Dragnag for your overnight stay. (Altitude: 4,700 Meters / 15,420 Feet) Day 9: Dragnag - Cho La - Dzonglha (Trek: 9 Hours) (B,L,D) Today is a hard day’s trek so you will make an early morning start, taking a packed lunch to enjoy on the up hill stretches. Heading east, clamber over boulders and enjoy some steep and challenging climbs up to the Cho La Pass. Always packed with ice, you may need to trek through deep snow en route to Dzonglha. (Altitude: 4,830 Meters / 15,846 Feet) Day 10: Dzonglha - Lobuche (Trek: 5 Hours) (B,L,D) Continue your epic adventure heading southeast then north to trek the Khumbu Valley to Lobuche. Pass settlements such as Pheriche, a former farming region for yaks and potato. Today, many of its inhabitants are employed as trekking guides and porters. Enjoy views of the small village and glacial lake of Dhugla, one of the highest settlements in the world. (Altitude: 4,910 Meters / 16,109 Feet) Day 11: Lobuche - Everest Base Camp - Ghorakshep (Trek: 9 Hours) (B,L,D) Trek the Khumbu Valley alongside the Khumbu Glacier, and get breathtaking views of the dome of Pomo Ri. Marvel at the towering peaks of Nuptse. Behind it is Everest. Stop at the Everest Base Camp to catch your breath, then descend back to Gorakshep for an overnight stay. (Altitude: 5,190 Meters / 17,027 Feet) Day 12: Gharak Shep - Kalaptthar - Dingboche (Trek: 7 Hours) (B,L,D) Wake early to take a sunrise hike to Kalapatter, one of the most spectacular viewpoints of the Everest region. Enjoy panoramic vistas of the front of Mt. Everest and Pomo-Ri, before descending back down and on to Dingboche via Dhugla. (Altitude: 4,410 Meters / 14,468 Feet) Day 13: Dingboche - Chhukung ri - Dingboche (B,L,D) Today you will stay in the Dingboche region, taking a day pack for a gradual uphill hike to Chhukung. Then, it’s a steep climb to Chhukung ri for panoramic 360-degree views of the sweep of the Himalayas. Walk back down to Dhingboche for your overnight stay. You can also take a trip to the glacier or to the Imja Tse Valley, surrounded by the awesome peaks of some of the Himalayan giants. (Altitude: 4,410 Meters / 14,468 Feet) Day 14: Dingboche - Tengboche (Trek: 6 Hours) (B,L,D) Leave behind the 360-degree views of the high Himalayas and begin your slow descent to Diebuche via
  • 4. Pangboche. Climb up to the Tengboche Monastery in the Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its “outstanding universal value.” The original gompa was built in 1916 but was destroyed by an earthquake in 1934. Disaster struck again when the replacement building was burnt to the ground in 1989. The new monastery was finished in 1994 and has a library, cultural center, and school for about 30 young monks. (Altitude: 3,860 Meters / 12,664 Feet) Day 15: Tengboche - Namche Bazaar (Trek: 6 Hours) (B,L,D) Enjoy glorious views of Mt. Everest in the early morning light from just above the lodge. Then, start your trek down to Phunki Tenga and back up to Namche Bazaar via the well developed settlement of Khumjung. Day 16: Namche Bazaar - Phakdhing (Trek: 6 Hours) (B,L,D) Trek on down through pine forest leaving Everest behind, and cross several bridges of the Dudkosi River into the greener vegetation and farms of the Sherpa villages. (Altitude: 2,610 Meters / 8,563 Feet) Day 17: Phakdhing - Lukla (Trek: 4 Hours) (B,L,D) The final stretch of your trek takes you along the shore of the Dudkosi River, passing a couple of villages en route to Lukla and the end of your walk. (Altitude: 2,850 Meters / 9,350 Feet) Day 18: Lukla - Kathmandu Fly back to Kathmandu from Lukla, enjoying aerial views of the mountains you have just been admiring from below. Upon arrival in the city center, check into your hotel for a last dinner.
