offered morning and afternoon sessions
Participants may select a morning and afternoon session.
Please include your top two selections in your RSVP.
Workshop 1: Using TV to Teach
TV teaches, and children are natural, active learners. What are they
really learning? Discuss how to help children develop healthy viewing
habits, how to identify high-quality television, and how to create
important connections after viewing.
Workshop 2: Conflict Resolution
Everybody gets mad sometimes. Explore how effective communication
and modeling can help children develop strategies to productively
resolve conflicts. Participants also discuss the difference between
discipline and conflict resolution and get practice in helping children
seek solutions together.
Workshop 3: Preventing Obesity
How can we create a healthier environment for children, where in
the U.S. one in five children is considered overweight? Learn about
what you can do to prevent health risks from developing, and practice
developing strategies to support healthy choices for children’s growing
bodies.
Workshop 4: Print-Rich Environment
How can you make ordinary household items into playful literacy
experiences for children? Participants team up to explore how
engaging in simple games and activities helps children become aware
of their environment and increases emerging language and literacy.
