1. The plan of ‘Ecological sports tournament’

Aims:
- forming the ability to use recyclable waste for games,
- acquiring the habit to leave the place tidy after the games,
- developing physical fitness and healthy competition,
- showing to children the healthy way of spending free time.
Place of realization:
School gymnasium decorated with posters about wildlife conservation.
Participants:
Primary school students of I – III grades.
Materials:
Four cardboard tunnels, drink cans, plastic mineral water bottles, waste paper,
leaves, conkers, cones, unihockey sticks.
The course of the tournament:
I. Greeting the participants,
II. Each of the grades choose seven five-person teams.
1. Throwing with a can into the cardboard
A cardboard should be put away from other posts, not to threaten participants.
The task consists in throwing with five drink cans into the cardboard. For each
throw a student receives 1 point. The sum of points decides about the place in
the contest.
2. Leading paper balls with slalom
Participants lead paper balls between plastic mineral water bottles (to avoid
falling over, the bottles should be filled with water to a half). The bottles should
be placed in a row, at some distance from one another. The paper balls should be
led with feet. The fastest team wins.
3. Unihockey (with a paper ball)

2. The game consists in leading a paper ball (using a hockey stick) between bottles
(with some water) placed in a row. The slalom should be finished with a throw
into the ‘goal’ (the cardboard put with the opening to the participants). The team
which is the fastest, which led the paper ball correctly and which has the most
number of points wins.
4. Bottle skittles
Five bottle skittles are placed at some distance from one another. In five throws,
students should hit the most of them rolling with a yoghurt bottle (filled with
some water). The team which has the most of knocked over bottles wins.
5. Ecological slalom
In front of each team, should be put slalom courses, full of ‘rubbish’ (papers,
cans, etc.) and natural items like leaves, conkers, cones. At the end of the slalom
course there should be placed cardboard boxes signed how to segregate rubbish.
The participants are to gather and segregate everything what should be put into
the cardboard boxes leaving the natural items only. Each participant can pick up
only one piece of rubbish. The team which does the task fast and correctly wins.
6. Exercise course
Task 1.
The participant of the game is to come through the ‘cardboard tunnel’ made
from big carton boxes on all fours.
Task 2.
Three sheets of a newspaper should be put into the cardboard using the foot.
Students cannot use their hands.
Task 3.
Students are to throw with three paper balls through a hula hoop.
Task 4.
Rolling a plastic bottle (filled with water) between a slalom obstacle course.
Task 5.
‘Who will squash bottles the fastest?’
Each participant squashes five plastic bottles.

3. 7. Paper animal
During the tournament, the representatives of each grade make an animal from
paper, plastic bottles, cardboard boxes, strings etc.
Students can make a dragon, a bird, a squirrel and so on.
At the end of the tournament, the contest committee chooses the best works.
After the summing-up, the grades should be awarded.
