The large scren mobiile presentation format of the iPad presents new opportunities for museum tour guides to enhance group tours with a wide range of rich media. This session describes the best practices and apps indentified in a 6 month research project at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts.
As a follow-up to last year's presentation on the opportunity presented by the iPad's integration in group tours, this presentation will examine the findings from research on this topic conducted at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts in the Spring of 2011. The presentation will provide an overview of the research methodology, app selection criteria, design of the tour guide training, tour guide demographics, training outcomes and the resulting best practices. The presentation will provide an expanded summary of the chapter "Enhancing Group Tours with the iPad: A Case Study" published in the AAM e-book "The AAM Handbook to Mobile Planning and Strategy" in the summer of 2011. The presentation will conclude with a discuss of future directions for tablet enhanced tour experiences.
