WHAT DOES MODERNIZATION SYMBOLIZES?





Modernization symbolizes the Advancement.
Advancement simply means the betterment and to move
forward in a positive sense.
Hence, modernization follows to move forward and to get
better in terms of many aspects of life. There are many
aspects of life where modernization takes place such as,
living standards, working styles, behavioural pattern
(values, morals and principles) technology, education,
inter and intra relationships, cultural patterns and so on.
IMPACT OF MODERNIZATION
It has both positive and negative impact on Indian
families
 Drudgery reduction
 Raise living standard
 Improved education system
 Reducing sex stereotype, accepting changes,
women empowerment
 More expansion of knowledge as we linked to outer
world
WHAT DOES WESTERNIZATION SYMBOLIZES?






The adoption of different life styles, cultural ways,
working styles, organizing styles and even the
behavioural pattern of the western countries
particularly.
When people adopt the patterns and ways of the
western countries and follow them in their working,
thinking, living and approaching various situations is
known as westernization in simple words.
Majority of families, individuals and youth are showing
a keen interests in western life styles (dressing,
housing, outings and partying etc.) and attitudes
(professionalism and individualism).

More comfortable & luxurious life with coming of
drudgery reduction tools
 Women empowerment
 Promoting equality between people
 More liberalization of narrow mentality
 Family support services

Concept of nuclear families
Role conflicts.
Increasing divorce rate
Demising cultural values
Inter-caste marriages are promoted
Concept of Homo-sexuality
Healthy food habits are spoiled as people are addicted
towards easy to prepare food items
Increasing generational and communication gaps
Arrival of concept like DINK, latchkey children that has
resulted in disturbance of family system
MASS MEDIA
Mass media refers collectively to all media
technologies that are intended to reach a large
audience via mass communication.
 Mass media includes three types of media. These
are1. Broadcast media (also known as electronic media)
transmit their information electronically.
2. Print media use a physical object as a means of
sending their information.
3. Internet media is able to achieve mass media
status in its own right.

IMPACT OF TV ON FAMILY
 It

brings the family into a new kind of
togetherness.
 TV, in many ways has made the poorest of
families rich in terms of their access to
entertainment and news.
 TV has made child bearing less burdensome in
that it is a great babysitter, timefiller, tranquilizer, punishment, reward, avoidanc
e mechanism and substitute friend.
 Family planning methods.
TV IS AN INEXPENSIVE, IMMEDIATE AND SOCIALLY
ACCEPTABLE WAY TO PASS THE TIME AND RELAX.
IN TODAY'S BUSY WORLD, THIS IS SOMETIMES WHAT PARENTS AND
CHILDREN NEED.
TV HAS MUCH THE OPPOSITE EFFECT
In North America, with increasing wealth comes increasing
numbers of TV sets within the household so that each family
member is able to retreat into their own personal TV land,
void of interaction.
NEGITIVE ATTITUDE TOWARDS FAMILY SPECIALLY
DAUGHTER IN LAW OR MOTHER IN LAWS.
Health problems:
Eye problems

Heart diseases

Obesity among children.
Moral degradation.
Increased aggressive behavior.
