- If all you do is work, you’re unlikely to have sound judgments. Your values and decision making wind up skewed. You stop being able to decide what’s worth extra effort and what’s not. And you wind up just plain tired. No one makes sharp decisions when tired.
- Georgia is the founder of CMIT Solutions and it all got started from her kitchen table 14 years ago under the brand name, Computer Moms. Georgia will share how she formed strategic relationships to build the business into what it is today - over 130 locations across the country. Over the years Georgia has continued to provide visionary leadership to the company and serves as the Sr. VP guiding CMIT local offices as they support more than 1,800 small business clients. Prior to starting computer moms in 1996, she worked in the United States Senate in Washington D.C. A graduate of the University of Texas, Georgia is a sustaining member of the Junior League of Austin. She has been featured on "Positively Texas", CNNfn's "Business Unusual", and in Women's Day magazine. I’ve asked Georgia to share her story because I think she has some valuable lessons for all of us.
- We went to a small business incubator, there were a lot of snickers and laughs about Computers Moms they were used to businesses that were highly technical, and highly secretive. Here we come as Computer Moms, training and support for residential, they have never considered that as a service base, it took a lot of doing to consider us as an investment, but we got in.
- You have to take the initiative to apply for programs, we approached the business school about getting some help with an access data base. Melanie Fricke is sitting across from me for this very thing they were connected with UT, help support internships, Melanie was our second intern. She wanted her to go out into the world and get smarter and then come back. We could have gone to SCORE, but the thing we needed most was an office and a group we could go to when we needed help. Two side notes Technology is a male dominated world, having the men the borrow the brain concept, the men on the board of directors, more powerful than if it had just been me. You need to seek out diversity, not just male female, but creative, accounting, etc, whatever you lack, you need to find. The other thing that I learned and what our whole business model is based on is knowing when to outsource. The things I was good at were, xyz, and the things I needed someone else to do, was the financial piece, I also outsourced the marketing function, freed you up to focus on core business.
- Melanie: Thank Georgia. (Tee up Jim T.) One of the things we see with our clients and partners, the ones that are successful are the one that identify what they’re good at, and they delegate or outsource the rest. So I’ve invited two successful entrepreneurs we work with to share their stories and tips. First, Jim Tillinghast is a business coach and founder of White Stone Advisors. He is now our business coach and is facilitating a process in our organization that has really made an impact.
- Jim has coached over XXX small businesses and … Jim, what tips can you share with the small businesses on the call today?
- Thank you, Jim. We have covered brain trusts, outside resources and benefits of mastermind groups. I now want to introduce a provider we have been outsourcing to since May of 2010. We were looking for marketing advice and were referred to Creative Suitcase. After meeting Rachel Clemens and her team, it was such a breathe of fresh air. They were organized, professional and utilized great tools to keep all of us on the same page.

After earning a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts degree at the Savannah College of Art and Design, she worked as a graphic designer with Traffic Interactive in London and JSA Design in Brisbane along with Tocquigny Advertising and Jolly Design in Austin, Texas. In 2005, Rachel started Creative Suitcase to better connect with clients and their businesses. She specializes in high-end creative solutions for local, national and international clients and has been recognized with multiple Austin and national advertising awards. Rachel – can you share with us why you became and entrepreneur and how you leverage outsourcing?
