- Calls from one Skype user to another are free, wherever they are in the world. You make calls using usernames rather than traditional phone numbers, and if you have the equipment, you can video chat. You can use Skype to instant message or chat, or you can make calls cheaply to real phones, but today we are going to talk about FREE! skype to skype
- Luckily , the software is on the computers in this classroom, but in your school or at home, here is what you would do. When you go to the website on your own computer, it can tell whether you are using a mac or pc and will guide you to the correct download.
- To make calls we use a “username” instead of a phone #. Create username and remember, this is how people search for you, so depending on your situation, you need not make it cryptic. Students may need to take more precautions in a school setting. Email is also so that potential contacts can find you. And if you ever forget your password, email is the only way to get it back. PC-click on icon, wait!! New account window comes up first, sign up, wait!! Welcome screen comes – close it. Takes a few minutes for the window to finish loading and shows the skype test call contact. Be patient!
- If you hear yourself, you are good to go! Please post your username after you have placed your test call.
- PC –under skype privacy Mac:Under Preferences:Different levels of privacy. (preferences/privacy in the menu bar) Allow anyone to contact you (default setting) when you do not yet have a big contact list or set of authorized people. Continue to allow anyone to contact you if you are interested in getting random calls from people who just want to meet new people on Skype. Different versions look a little different than the window shown but the options are basically the same. “ Skype me” is (under account/change status in menu bar) (not in new version.)
- Search users by name or Skype account or email and add them to your contact list. (importing from email.) find or search. It ’ s common practice to arrange a Skype call in advance or to send a text message via Skype ’ s chat feature to be sure the person is available for a voice call. You can go ahead and add the person in the column next to your name and make the call! How about a brief conversation about what classes you are signed up for this fall. then switch and let your partner call you. The person in the first column should call first.
