You are not training to burn fat…..
The primary reason consumers are not burning fat is your big picture affect……. quite merely, they are not exercising to burn off fat! What?! I go to a health club 5 days a week….. I truly do cardio….. I watch what my partner and I eat……WHY, WHY am I definitely not burning more fat!!!

If you are exercising and not seeing the results you want, I have narrowed it down to six reasons you are
not burning fat. Some of these are common sense (which I teach!), but a few may surprise you. Let’s
get started!
Six Reasons You Are Not Burning Fat – You May Be Surprised!
You are not training to burn fat…..
The primary reason people are not burning fat is the big picture affect…….quite simply, they are not
exercising to burn fat! What?! I go to the gym 5 days a week…..I do cardio…..I watch what I eat……WHY,
WHY am I not burning more fat!!!
If you are JUST doing a cardio/aerobic type regiment,
you are doing great things for your heart, but not much
in terms of fat burning. Remember, the body can
adapt quickly to what we throw at it, and cardio
exercise is great for increasing our endurance and our
lung capacity.
But it does very little to PROMOTE muscle building,
which is a cornerstone of any fat burning program. In
fact, some research has shown that prolonged cardio
exercise can actually destroy muscle! YOU HAVE TO
DO SOME FORM OF RESISTANCE TRAINING or INTERVAL TRAINING to promote muscle growth.
Muscle burns fat…..BOTTOM LINE! Having more lean muscle will burn fat for up to 24
hours…….CHANGE YOUR ROUTINE!
You don’t eat enough calories!
Whoa! Scott, I thought I had to REDUCE calories to burn fat! Well, you do have to limit the BAD calories
that are higher in fat, but in a nutshell (almond butter is good for you!), you need calories to fuel the body,
especially if you are working out consistently. This is a close second as to the six reasons you are not
burning fat! More of the right calories will go a long way in building and fueling lean muscle, which as you
remember, will help you burn more fat.
You don’t eat enough protein…..
Protein is the building block for more lean muscle, yet many people do not eat enough of it to gain the lean
muscle they need to burn more fat! Again, we are bombarded with diets…..one year it is Paleo…..then
2. high protein…..then it is carbs……then it is….you get the picture! Again, common sense fitness and
nutrition says that you want to get protein that your body can use for restoration and muscle! There are
more grams of protein in 8 ounces of broccoli than there is in a steak……I like both though!
Too Stressed!!!!!!
Of the six reasons you are not burning fat, this one is
a HUGE culprit. If you are stressed out, your body
releases a nasty little hormone called CORTISOL.
Cortisol is designed to be released when we
encounter what doctors call “fight or flight”…..in other
words, it protects us from outside enemies. We
become more aware, we also become more ready to
fight or defend.
This release of cortisol was designed to be quick and
potent, getting out of the body once stress or danger is
gone. However, if we are constantly worrying,
stressed, under the gun, then we have this nasty little
hormone in our bloodstreams longer than it was
supposed to be there, thus causing us to store fat.
Remember, the body regulates itself, whether you are
aware of it or not! It will protect itself at all
costs…..sometimes to the determent of your fat
burning attempts!
Your diet and exercise regiment is too
strict!
Yes, you can overdo this exercise, healthy lifestyle
thingy! If you are obsessed with everything you put
into your mouth, and obsessed with having to make it
to the gym 5 days in a row, see number 4! Stress, as
we have eluded to, is a killer! Relax! The fact that you
have taken the initiative and begun an exercise
program is a good thing. Baby steps my friend! Don’t let the positive you have done be torn down
because you decided to eat something you know is not good for you. Moderation is the key!
Reduct your alcohol consumption (Say What?!)
Yes, you need to limit your intake of alcohol. Again, let’s take a common sense approach to this. The
kidneys filter our intake of fluids. They love water and will do a great job of filtering this and other things we
ingest.
However, alcohol causes dehydration, and when we are dehydrated, the body goes into defense mode.
The liver, which filters that lovely alcohol as well, is the primary organ associated with fat loss and release
of insulin! So, if we are producing more “sugar” (alcohol broken down), then our kidneys pass that job
onto the liver. The liver in turn sends the signal to the brain to store some fat……it senses something is not
right. So, again, moderation is the key!
3. In Conclusion……
There you have it. Six reasons you are not burning fat! Common sense will always prevail, but in case
