of using your SMART board effectively in your
classroom.
Instructional Goal: Upon completion of this

•Modules: There are six modules within this tutorial. At any time,
you can click the module tabs at the bottom of the page to move
to a new tutorial or review a tutorial.
•Navigational Icons: Other navigational icons are located on
each page. These icons include:

•Audio Clips & Videos: Within some of the slides there are
audio clips to listen to and some videos to view. Click on the
icon to hear the audio clips for each slide. Click on the video in
order to view the content.
•Module Quizzes: At the end of each module there will be an
interactive quiz reviewing the module. When you are ready to
take the module quiz, click the icon. The quiz will open in
SMART Notebook. After completing the quiz, click on the tutorial
again, which will be minimized at the bottom of the screen.

Software

Page Sorter
The Page Sorter provides an
overview of the current file. It
displays all of the pages as
thumbnails and automatically
updates these thumbnails as
you change the contents of
the pages. You can open the
Page Sorter at any time or
hide it to provide additional

Gallery

Gallery
The Gallery contains clip art,
backgrounds, multimedia
content, .notebook files and
pages that you can use in
your lessons, and displays
preview images of this
content. The Gallery also
provides access to the
SMART Learning Marketplace

Attachments
You can use the
Attachments tab to
attach a copy of a file,
shortcut to a file or link to
a Web page to your file.

Toolbar Buttons
The SMART Notebook toolbar enables you to select and
use a variety of commands and tools within the SMART
Notebook window. You can customize the toolbar so that
it includes the tools you use most frequently, control the
way the toolbar displays available options, and move the
toolbar to the top or bottom of the interactive screen.

The Shade Screen tool
covers an entire page with a
shade which is movable up
and down (just like a window
shade) or left and right. This

SMART Notebook file.
These options include:

Saving a File
Step-by-Step Directions
• First, click File from the menu bar,
then select Save
• Next, the Save or Save As dialog box
opens
• To store the new Notebook file in a
different directory and drive, press the
scroll arrow in the “Save in” box and
select a directory and drive for the new
Notebook file
• Then type a file name in the “File
name” box
• Last, click Save

Step-by-Step Directions
• First from the File menu, select Print
• Then the Print menu box opens
• Select what you want to print:
 Thumbnails
 Handouts
 Full Page
• Next in the Printer Setup tab, make sure
the printer you are printing to is selected.
• Last, in the Page Layout tab, enter the
pages you want to print, or select All to
print the entire Notebook file.

You can export your
SMART Notebook file in a
variety of formats,
including HTML, PDF,
Image files, or PowerPoint
files. Click on the icons to

SMART Notebook Tutorial: Final Exercise
Now that you have finished the SMART Notebook tutorial, you are ready to create your own
Notebook file. Use the requirements below to create a Notebook page.

Notebook page requirements:
1. Insert an image from the Gallery tab. Choose the image from the Science and Technology
folder.
2. Use your toolbar buttons to create a star shape. Then use your Properties tab to fill in your
shape. Change the color of your shape to yellow.
and
3. Insert a text box into the Notebook page. Type a message telling me one thing you learned from
this tutorial.
4. Use the pen tools (basic or creative) to write your first and last name.
5. Save your Notebook page as a regular notebook file. Use the first initial of your first name and
your last name to save the file (ex. csheppard.notebook).
6. Email me your notebook file. cmsheppard@valdosta.edu
