1. 3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media
product and why?
• The media institution that might distribute
my product is Warner Bros. My film is a
crime film based around drug dealing,
focussing on the chase between the drug
dealers and police. This is similar to Sherlock
Holmes films where Sherlock Holmes works
with Dr Watson although the time settings
are different. In my film two police officers
work as partners to track down criminals.
My film is meant to be as realistic as possible
and this is in contrast to Sherlock Holmes.
We did use special effects such as slow
motion just like in the Sherlock Holmes
movie. I have chosen Warner Bros because I
want global distribution for my film.
2. Warner Bros would be a good Institution for
worldwide distribution and more effective for our
film than a smaller British film distributor like
Warp. WB would have larger marketing budgets
so could reach a wider audience. Warp would
need to rely on web distribution and viral
marketing to reach a smaller audience.
3. 4. Who would be the audience for your media product?
• Ideal audience: I am aiming my film at teenagers like
myself but I think it would appeal to the 15-18 year old
market. Because of this I am rating my film as a 15.
• I think it would appeal to both boys and girls because
crime dramas shown today have both genders taking
part.
• The reason I made it a 15 is because of the content. My
film contains drug deals, violence and moderate bad
language .
• As my film has a rating for 15 year olds this means I can
attract a larger audience especially teenagers and
young adults. If it was rated as 18 we could potentially
lose a portion of our target audience as they wouldn’t
be allowed to see it.
4. My typical audience member
John Evans is 17 and lives in
London. He is in college
studying sociology. On the
weekends he likes to go to the
cinema to see the latest
releases. His favourite genres
are action and horror. He is
permanently attached to his
iPhone and spends a lot of time
on film websites and social
networks. He spends his money
on clothes and buying new apps
for his phone.
5. 5. How did you attract your audience?
• My audience are 15-25 year olds, they will already understand the crime
genre due to the number of crime dramas on television and also the
number of films made about crime.
• The film is very realistic because most of the time the camera wasn’t
placed on a tripod but was actually handheld so that the audience feel like
they are participating in the film. The realistic, modern setting also adds
to this and the audience can identify with the surroundings.
• Most people will have watched the riot of 2011 on the television or they
will listen to the news so they will understand that crime is a every day
occurrence and although they may not have been involved in any crime
they will have had some experience with crime.
6. 6. What have you learnt about technologies
and the construct of your project?
Sony Vegas is an editing program that allows users to organise clips into a sequence,
add titles, visual effects and sounds. The following slide shows how the Vegas page
looks with some of the things we used to create the opening sequence.
1. This is how we added are sound track to are short move clip ( 28 weeks later)
2. We added various sounds effects in to are short clip. Some of these were the
sounds of car alarms, dogs barking and heavy breathing.
3. This is how we changed the volume.
4. This is the way we edited the video to give it a CCTV effect.
5. This is how we added in text which appears on the screen to introduce each
character and role and also to give the names of the actors.
