Tips To Going Green During Kitchen Remodeling
Going green in the kitchen as you remodel or build can make you feel good and help the environment
at the same time. You will find that the materials and products that are available to go green while
constructing a kitchen are unique and beautiful as are the ideas to make a green kitchen gorgeous
and efficient. Use the tips below to help you make some green choices when selecting the products
going into your new kitchen.

One of the biggest purchases you are going to have to make for a new kitchen are the appliances.
There are some beautiful appliances on the market these days that are big enough to feed a very
large family, but energy efficient enough to save you money on utilities. As you are shopping for your
new appliances, look for the Energy Star sticker on the front of them. Once you locate that sticker,
look for the yellow sticker that informs you of how much energy that appliance uses per year.
Compare all of the appliances against each other until you find the one that you like that uses the
least energy in a calendar year.

When shopping for the flooring in your new kitchen, look into using renewable natural materials.
These materials include things like cork or bamboo. You could even choose to go with the recycled
tiles. It all depends on your taste and the look that you are trying to achieve. Ask the flooring
salesman to show you the options in renewable flooring as you are shopping for it. He will be able to
show you a big variety for you to choose from.

As you are shopping for the perfect cabinetry for your kitchen, inquire about cabinetry that is made
from Forestry Stewardship Certified sources (FSC). Your contractor will be able to tell you the best
place in the area to get this particular kind of cabinets. If he is unsure, hit the web looking for
information about local carpenters in the area that can accommodate your wishes.

Look into lighting fixtures that are energy efficient. You should also consider installing additional
windows or sky lights in the kitchen. The more natural light you bring into the room, the less often you
will have to turn on your lights. Also consider installing ceiling fans. They cost much less to operate
than the air conditioning unit and can really keep a kitchen from becoming overheated when cooking
in it.
Stained chipboard or recycled tiles could be used for your counter tops. There are some gorgeous
options these days. Look into the recycled glass counter tops as well. They are as unique as they are
beautiful and will outlast many other options for your counters. Concrete counter tops are another
option to consider. They can be made in many colors and can be custom formed to fit your kitchen
perfectly.

When the time comes to remodel or build your kitchen, keep these ideas in mind. Go green as you
remodel and you will appreciate it for many years.
