What you need are the following materials: sheets of paper for
binding into a book, bone folder, double-sided adhesive, heavy-
weight papers for end pages, pencil, Jade glue, paint brush,
headband tape, craft knife, acid-free binder’s board, book canvas,
and iron-on transfer paper. If you are planning to do saddle stitch
binding, then what you have to do is to keep a stack of papers
and cover together, and then make holes with a sharp object on
the spine. You can make two holes nearer to the edges of the
spine, and then stitch with a strong thread. You can also choose
to make three or four holes, and then stitch accordingly, in order
to hold the book together nicely.
In paperback binding, the book has a cover that is much like
paper. On the other hand, a hardcover book has a rigid or thick
cover is stitched in the spine or attached with the help of a
special glue.
Another way of doing homemade book binding is to first collect all
the sheets of paper that you wish to bind into a book, fold the
2. sheets in half, and arrange them according to how you intend
them to appear in your book. Place the stack of folded pages on
the edge of the table, and brush five coats of Jade glue onto the
spine. Let the glue dry for about ten to fifteen minutes between
coats. Trim the edges of the pages with a craft knife, create the
front and back cover from the binder’s board, and glue everything
together. Make sure that everything is tucked in correctly and
securely.
This is how homemade book binding is done.
