Good Stuff Happens in 1:1 Meetings: Why you need them and how to do them well
Young Innovators - Alternative Energy Sources For Homes
1. Most of the world’s energy needs are
provided by fossil fuels, and these non-
renewable resources are gradually
beginning to diminish. Consequently,
their prices are soaring high, making it
difficult for plenty of families to pay for
the high cost of energy. As if it’s not bad
enough that prices go sky-rocketing, the
burning of fossil fuels even pose a
number of damaging effects on the environment. This is where
finding alternative energy sources for homes enters the picture.

The largest source of renewable energy is hydropower. This
renewable source of energy provides ten percent of the nation’s
electricity. But although hydropower does not release pollution, it
can possibly harm fish and wildlife, displace people, and alter the
quality of water. Solar energy is another type of renewable
energy source. Photovoltaics or PV cells produce electricity from
sunlight. Again, the major problem here is that many people
cannot afford solar panels. In fact, this power resource costs
more than other energy sources. Also, it tends to work effectively
only when the sun is shining.
Lastly, we have wind energy, which is generated by erecting a
large tower equipped with propellers that spin when the wind
pushes the blades that are connected to an electric generator.
Wind power is considered as one of the cheapest sources of
energy. The electricity produced by a wind generator or a wind
turbine is not only cheaper; the whole process is pollution-free as
well.
2. As you can see, alternative sources of energy do not pose as
much risk as fossil fuels do. Moreover, using alternative energy
sources is great at helping you save on electricity bills. There are
even indirect savings on health and its costs simply because
these sources of energy produce no polluting or harmful
emissions.
One advantage of using alternative energy sources for homes is
the more sustainable use of finite sources of energy. We can use
wind energy, hydroelectric power, or solar energy repeatedly
without depleting them. Another advantage is their inability to
produce carbon-based warming and polluting agents into the
atmosphere.
