History of the Skyscraper
A skyscraper is an building that is at
least 20 stories high. The highest build-
ing in the world is the CN tower in
Toronto, Canada. It is 1815 ft tall. The
taller the building is, the thicker the
walls have to be in order to support the
structure of the building .
The invention of steel frame construc-
tion eliminated the need for the thick
walls in most cases the combination of
concrete and a steel skeleton creates a
strong structure load that supports
the weight of the building.
The load of wind is the most important
element that affects the structure of a
skyscraper. The center of the building is
the main weight load of a building. This
kind of structure is open to add eleva-
tors.
