Unit 41 – Review

In thisunitwe had to come togetherasa groupand make a newsradioshow.Afterwe hadcome
intogroupsof three we hadto sit amongstourselvesanddecideonoutdifferentnewsshowswe
wouldbe doing.The firstone we all had to dowas our copyonly.
We sat inour groupsand ran throughsome ideasforone another,aftermuch time andresearchwe
all had our differentstories.Ihadchosento do a storyon the Salfordfire.Thiswasbecause itis
interestingtoour listenersandalsoitwas a resenteventthathadtakenplace justa few days before.
AfterI conductedalot of researchI thenhad to make thisintoa script.So I compiledall myresearch
intoone large word documentandhighlightedbitsthatIwoulduse.Ithencopiedthemintoa fresh
documentandediteditandchangedbitsuntil Ihad an appropriate scriptformy CopyOnly.After
thisI thenhad to geta voice recorder,findaquietplace andrecordmy Story.
WhenI was recordingmycopyonlyI foundit verydifficulttoreadthe scriptwithoutmaking
mistakes.Thiswasanissue as I keptmessingmyrecordingup.SoI came up withthe ideato redo
each paragraphsingularlythenif Imade a mistake Ionlyhad to recordthat paragraph againand not
the whole thing.
AfterI hadrecordedmy CopyOnlyinitsseparate sectionIthenhad to edititall togetherandmake
sure the soundlevelswere okay.Iloadedall myworkontoreaper,a soundeditingsoftware,cutthe
clipsandsortedthemintoorder andmakingsure it soundedokay.Ithenchangedthe soundlevels
to make it soundfluentandappropriate.
I thensentall my work,myscript,my Final CopyOnlyAudiofile andanyothernecessarydocument
to my teammate whothenuploadeditontooutblog.Ithenmovedontomy Voicer.
For my Voicer, Ichose to doa piece onthe EcclesMulti Media Awards.More commonlyknownas
the EMMA’s. I wantedto do thisbecause itisa fantasticceremonythattakesplace everyyearto
showoff the mediastudentsworkandgive a chance for otherstudentsandparentsto see what
theydo,how well theyare doinganditgivesthe studentsabitof praise forall theirhard work.
I firsthad to domy research, thiswashard because there wasn’talot of informationonany
websites,soIhadto use Facebook andgo onto the EcclesMedia page.Thisallowedme togetclips
fromlast year’sEMMA’s and the winner’s completion.Thisgave me anideaof what theydoand
whatthe endproductwill looklike.
From thisI devisedsome questions thatIneededtoanswersforandstartedmakingmyscript.In my
scriptI leftgapsfor my interviewaudiofile togo,thisworkedreallywell asIcreatedan outershell
for myshow.WhenI made the script,I made itto how I wouldwantto hear it.As inif I was listening
to the radioand I wantedto hearinformationonthe EMMA’s. Thisgave me a goodstart and a good
imaginationformyscript.
WhenI had completedmyscript,Ithenwentandset upan interview withChrisGladwin,Ourmedia
technician.Thiswouldallowme togetthe answersI neededformynewsshow.Afteraskinghimthe
questionsandgettingthe audioIwentandrecordedmypart for the show.AgainI cut the scriptinto

several paragraphswitchIrecordedseparatelytomake sure thatany mishapsIcouldjust rerecord
that section.
I gatheredal my recordingandonce again placedthemintoreaper,cuttingoff anysectionsIdidn’t
needand clipped the interview intothe rightplacesandeditedthe soundlevels.Thismeantit
soundedokaythoughtoutthe whole show.
For My final newsstoryI wantedtodo a Vox Popon The Pirate Bay.I dida lot of researchon this
subjectbecause itpersonallyinterestedme alot.The researchI got was veryinformational.This
allowedme togeta lot of knowledge onthe subjectbe forIeventhoughtof startingmy script.
I made a researchdocument,andplacedloadsof my researchintoIt,I thenediteditloadsand
changedbitand bobsand createdmy script.Leavinggapsforinterviewsandhavingthe outershell
for myNewsstory.The onlyproblemwitheditingmyresearchintomyscriptisthat I now hadno
research.SoI had to redoall my research.
I thensetout witha voice recorderandrecordeda few people.The resultsIgotwere outstanding,
all the people Ihad interviewedhadusedsome formof illegaldownloadingsite.Thiswasgreatnews
for me as my newsstorywasrelayingonthese results.Ithenuploadedall myinterviewsontoreaper
alongwithmy scriptedstoryandeditedittogether.There wasaproblemwiththe audioasone of
my interviewswasveryquiet,soIhad to pumpup the volume butitwas still atad quiet.
AfterI haddone all 3 of myinterviewsIsentall mywork overto myteammate whoputthemall
ontothe blog.
News Story One: Copy Only: Salford Fire
We hada focusgroupin class.We airedall the radioshowsand gotfeedbackonthemall from
fellowclassmates.Onmycopyonlystory,the majorityof the class saidthat I neededtospeakabit
fasterwithfewerpausesin-betweenmywordsandsentences.Onthe otherhandtheyalsosaidthat
I spoke clearlyandpronouncedmywordswell.
Strengths:
 Spokenclearly
 Pronouncedwordswell
 The story was clearand easyto follow.
Weaknesses:
 I tooktoo longpausesin-betweenmysentences.
 Some wordsblurredintothe next
 I had a lighthiccupwithmywords,and got thema little muddledup.
Things I WouldDo Differently?
If I hadto do thisparticularstoryagain I wouldtake mytime,learnthe scriptmore,andproseswhat
I will be saying.Ialsowouldtake mytime butnot leave suchlonggapesin-betweenmysentence’s.

Thiswas due to the editingasI had to recordeach paragraphsingularlybecause Ikeptmaking
mistakes.
News Story Two: Voicer: E.M.M.A’s
In our focusgroup,we tenplayedall the voicers.These were outradioshowsthatcontainedjust
one singularinterviewthatwascutand inputintothe show as small fragmentsof information.This
allowsusto cut to the audiofromthe interview inthe middleof the newsstory.Some of the feed
back I got wasverypositive andsome notto positive.These are the resultsof whatIgot back.
Strengths:
 The interviewIdidwasveryconductive inthe respectthatI obtainedall the informationI
needed.
 I editedinthe audioinwithmyvoice reallywell makingitrunsmoothly.
Weaknesses:
 I couldhave spokenmore clearly
 I couldhave takenmy time more andmade sure I didn’thave anymistakesandif IdidI
couldhave redone thatsectionof the radioshow.
Things I WouldDo Differently?
If I hadto do thisnewsstoryagainI wouldhave takenmytime inmakingmy part of the radioshow,
makingsure I knewmyscriptand understoodthe sentence’sbefore sayingthem.AlsoIwouldhave
editedthe bitsIdidwrongand changedthemintothe right thingswithdifferentaudios.
News Story Three: Vox Pops: Pirate Bay
The Vox Popswere the lastthingsplayedinthe focusgroup.ThisparticularVox Popwas aboutThe
Pirate Bay,An illegal downloadingsite.Igota lot of reallygoodfeedbackfromthissectionof the
focusgroup.I thinkthisis because Iknew a lotaboutThe Pirate Bay to beginwith,soIunderstood
my scriptwell.Alsothiswasone of the few mattersIwas interestedinsoItooka bitmore care and
time withit
Strengths:
 The interviewswereeditedinwell
 The actual contentof the newsstorywasveryinteresting
 My voice wasveryclearand forwardwiththissubject

me comparedto my interviews.

If I hadto do thisnewsshowagainI thinkI wouldgetmore factsand figuresinthe script.Thiswould
raise my showsvolume of information.AlsoIwouldredomyinterviewsmakingsure theyare clear
and showstrongerinformation.

Unit 41 – Review By Skye Nel In thisunitwe had to come togetherasa groupand make a newsradioshow.Afterwe hadcome intogroupsof three we hadto sit amongstourselvesanddecideonoutdifferentnewsshowswe wouldbe doing.The firstone we all had to dowas our copyonly. We sat inour groupsand ran throughsome ideasforone another,aftermuch time andresearchwe all had our differentstories.Ihadchosento do a storyon the Salfordfire.Thiswasbecause itis interestingtoour listenersandalsoitwas a resenteventthathadtakenplace justa few days before. AfterI conductedalot of researchI thenhad to make thisintoa script.So I compiledall myresearch intoone large word documentandhighlightedbitsthatIwoulduse.Ithencopiedthemintoa fresh documentandediteditandchangedbitsuntil Ihad an appropriate scriptformy CopyOnly.After thisI thenhad to geta voice recorder,findaquietplace andrecordmy Story. WhenI was recordingmycopyonlyI foundit verydifficulttoreadthe scriptwithoutmaking mistakes.Thiswasanissue as I keptmessingmyrecordingup.SoI came up withthe ideato redo each paragraphsingularlythenif Imade a mistake Ionlyhad to recordthat paragraph againand not the whole thing. AfterI hadrecordedmy CopyOnlyinitsseparate sectionIthenhad to edititall togetherandmake sure the soundlevelswere okay.Iloadedall myworkontoreaper,a soundeditingsoftware,cutthe clipsandsortedthemintoorder andmakingsure it soundedokay.Ithenchangedthe soundlevels to make it soundfluentandappropriate. I thensentall my work,myscript,my Final CopyOnlyAudiofile andanyothernecessarydocument to my teammate whothenuploadeditontooutblog.Ithenmovedontomy Voicer. For my Voicer, Ichose to doa piece onthe EcclesMulti Media Awards.More commonlyknownas the EMMA’s. I wantedto do thisbecause itisa fantasticceremonythattakesplace everyyearto showoff the mediastudentsworkandgive a chance for otherstudentsandparentsto see what theydo,how well theyare doinganditgivesthe studentsabitof praise forall theirhard work. I firsthad to domy research, thiswashard because there wasn’talot of informationonany websites,soIhadto use Facebook andgo onto the EcclesMedia page.Thisallowedme togetclips fromlast year’sEMMA’s and the winner’s completion.Thisgave me anideaof what theydoand whatthe endproductwill looklike. From thisI devisedsome questions thatIneededtoanswersforandstartedmakingmyscript.In my scriptI leftgapsfor my interviewaudiofile togo,thisworkedreallywell asIcreatedan outershell for myshow.WhenI made the script,I made itto how I wouldwantto hear it.As inif I was listening to the radioand I wantedto hearinformationonthe EMMA’s. Thisgave me a goodstart and a good imaginationformyscript. WhenI had completedmyscript,Ithenwentandset upan interview withChrisGladwin,Ourmedia technician.Thiswouldallowme togetthe answersI neededformynewsshow.Afteraskinghimthe questionsandgettingthe audioIwentandrecordedmypart for the show.AgainI cut the scriptinto
  • 2. Unit 41 – Review By Skye Nel several paragraphswitchIrecordedseparatelytomake sure thatany mishapsIcouldjust rerecord that section. I gatheredal my recordingandonce again placedthemintoreaper,cuttingoff anysectionsIdidn’t needand clipped the interview intothe rightplacesandeditedthe soundlevels.Thismeantit soundedokaythoughtoutthe whole show. For My final newsstoryI wantedtodo a Vox Popon The Pirate Bay.I dida lot of researchon this subjectbecause itpersonallyinterestedme alot.The researchI got was veryinformational.This allowedme togeta lot of knowledge onthe subjectbe forIeventhoughtof startingmy script. I made a researchdocument,andplacedloadsof my researchintoIt,I thenediteditloadsand changedbitand bobsand createdmy script.Leavinggapsforinterviewsandhavingthe outershell for myNewsstory.The onlyproblemwitheditingmyresearchintomyscriptisthat I now hadno research.SoI had to redoall my research. I thensetout witha voice recorderandrecordeda few people.The resultsIgotwere outstanding, all the people Ihad interviewedhadusedsome formof illegaldownloadingsite.Thiswasgreatnews for me as my newsstorywasrelayingonthese results.Ithenuploadedall myinterviewsontoreaper alongwithmy scriptedstoryandeditedittogether.There wasaproblemwiththe audioasone of my interviewswasveryquiet,soIhad to pumpup the volume butitwas still atad quiet. AfterI haddone all 3 of myinterviewsIsentall mywork overto myteammate whoputthemall ontothe blog. News Story One: Copy Only: Salford Fire We hada focusgroupin class.We airedall the radioshowsand gotfeedbackonthemall from fellowclassmates.Onmycopyonlystory,the majorityof the class saidthat I neededtospeakabit fasterwithfewerpausesin-betweenmywordsandsentences.Onthe otherhandtheyalsosaidthat I spoke clearlyandpronouncedmywordswell. Strengths:  Spokenclearly  Pronouncedwordswell  The story was clearand easyto follow. Weaknesses:  I tooktoo longpausesin-betweenmysentences.  Some wordsblurredintothe next  I had a lighthiccupwithmywords,and got thema little muddledup. Things I WouldDo Differently? If I hadto do thisparticularstoryagain I wouldtake mytime,learnthe scriptmore,andproseswhat I will be saying.Ialsowouldtake mytime butnot leave suchlonggapesin-betweenmysentence’s.
  • 3. Unit 41 – Review By Skye Nel Thiswas due to the editingasI had to recordeach paragraphsingularlybecause Ikeptmaking mistakes. News Story Two: Voicer: E.M.M.A’s In our focusgroup,we tenplayedall the voicers.These were outradioshowsthatcontainedjust one singularinterviewthatwascutand inputintothe show as small fragmentsof information.This allowsusto cut to the audiofromthe interview inthe middleof the newsstory.Some of the feed back I got wasverypositive andsome notto positive.These are the resultsof whatIgot back. Strengths:  The interviewIdidwasveryconductive inthe respectthatI obtainedall the informationI needed.  I editedinthe audioinwithmyvoice reallywell makingitrunsmoothly. Weaknesses:  I couldhave spokenmore clearly  I couldhave takenmy time more andmade sure I didn’thave anymistakesandif IdidI couldhave redone thatsectionof the radioshow. Things I WouldDo Differently? If I hadto do thisnewsstoryagainI wouldhave takenmytime inmakingmy part of the radioshow, makingsure I knewmyscriptand understoodthe sentence’sbefore sayingthem.AlsoIwouldhave editedthe bitsIdidwrongand changedthemintothe right thingswithdifferentaudios. News Story Three: Vox Pops: Pirate Bay The Vox Popswere the lastthingsplayedinthe focusgroup.ThisparticularVox Popwas aboutThe Pirate Bay,An illegal downloadingsite.Igota lot of reallygoodfeedbackfromthissectionof the focusgroup.I thinkthisis because Iknew a lotaboutThe Pirate Bay to beginwith,soIunderstood my scriptwell.Alsothiswasone of the few mattersIwas interestedinsoItooka bitmore care and time withit Strengths:  The interviewswereeditedinwell  The actual contentof the newsstorywasveryinteresting  My voice wasveryclearand forwardwiththissubject Weaknesses:

What WouldI Do Differently? If I hadto do thisnewsshowagainI thinkI wouldgetmore factsand figuresinthe script.Thiswould raise my showsvolume of information.AlsoIwouldredomyinterviewsmakingsure theyare clear and showstrongerinformation.
