1. 20 MDG Pharmacy Information
By: Lt Col David Walmsley, 20th Medical Support Squadron (MDSS) Commander
The Pharmacy at Shaw AFB would like to be your pharmacy of choice. Military
treatment facility pharmacies are the most economical point of pharmacy service, costing the
least to both the government and to the patient. Patients filling their prescriptions at the Shaw
AFB pharmacy do not have to pay any co-pay. Active duty, retirees and dependents are all
eligible to utilize the services, and prescriptions are accepted from both military and civilian
providers. Prescriptions will only be filled for those medications that are on the formulary. A
list of formulary medications can be found at
http://www.shaw.af.mil/shared/media/document/AFD-121121-041.pdf.
You can also find a copy of the formulary on the 20 MDG Facebook page located at
https://www.facebook.com/20thmedicalgroup.
All new prescriptions are filled at the Main Pharmacy, which is located in the clinic’s
main lobby. In addition to hand written prescriptions the pharmacy will accept telephone and
fax prescriptions from civilian providers. Civilian providers should dial 803-895-6429 for
telephone prescriptions and 803-895-6463 for fax prescriptions. Additionally, the pharmacy
will transfer in prescriptions filled at both civilian and other military pharmacies. Patients who
do not wish to wait for their medications are encouraged to use the civilian prescription drop
box. The drop box will be located in the main pharmacy waiting area and allows a patient seeing
a civilian provider to place their prescription(s) in an envelope for pick-up at a later time.
Individuals using this service will be required to completely fill out an envelope with the
patient's name, patient's date of birth, sponsor's social security number, patient's allergies and a
good contact number. Envelopes will be provided by the pharmacy. Prescriptions placed in the
drop off box will be available for pick-up a minimum of 2 hours later at the Main Pharmacy's
fourth window.
Prescription refills may only be requested using the automated telephone service.
Patients requiring a refill should call 803-895-6678 and follow the automated directions to
request a refill. Refills called in by 1200 will be ready for pick-up the follow duty day at the BX
Pharmacy. If you have any questions or would like additional information about pharmacy
services please contact the Main Pharmacy at 803-895-6464 or 803-895-6466.
