1. 16 Bit Processors. The Year 1989 Saw The Leap From 8-Bit
16 bit processors. The year 1989 saw the leap from 8–bit to 16–bit consoles with NEC's
TurboGrafx–16 and Sega's Genesis 16, both of which featured six–channel stereo sound. The 16–bit
processing chip offered by Sega could process two times as much data per cycle as the earlier 8–bit
processors. Additionally, it included an 8–bit processor solely for sound. Combined, this resulted in
a clearer, fuller sound; larger, more detailed games; better developed characters; complex graphics;
and faster action. Finally, home video game systems could compete with the performance features of
the much larger coin–operated arcade games. With this increase in technology, Sega was able to
surpass the Nintendo system in sales by 1991, and became the ... Show more content on

In 1993, one year after Sega's release of its Sega CD System, Sega released its Sonic CD as one of
the industry's first CD–quality game soundtracks. (Gerald Lynch). The 16–Bit Era, with its
improved technology, allowed developers to tell stories of greater complexity and resonance. We
watched Mario and Sonic move about in bold, vibrant colors, and we gasped as 3D gaming took its
first, fledgling steps. The 16–Bit Era was a time of change, excitement, and competition. (Kevin

The 32 and 64–bit Game Systems. From 1993 through 2000, the video game industry jumped from
16–bit to 32–bit, and eventually to 64–bit systems (Gerald Lynch). As 64–bit systems emerged, the
mere classification of "bit" numbers became less important due to the fact that performance now
depended on increasingly important factors such as processor clock speed, bandwidth and memory
size. However, there were benefits to be gained from the 64–bit upgrade. Enhanced speed and
memory allowed games to render more realistic collisions, lifelike simulations of graphics and real–
time multi–channel audio features. This era proved to be dominated by the Nintendo 64 and the
Sony PlayStation. Sony entered the market in 1995 at the 32–bit level with its PlayStation able to
provide "CD–quality stereo sound," including "built–in support for digital effects such as reverb and
looping." One year later, Nintendo

2. Sexism In Video Games
Video Games. Video Gaming has been a popular form of entertainment in modern pop culture since
the early 1980's. From the early beginnings of software producers such as Nintendo, they have been
creating games that have become favorable classics in only a few decades. With the most popular
classic video games including Super Mario Bros. (1985), Donkey Kong (1981), Pac–Man (1980),
and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (1998), we can quickly note some patterns. One of the
patterns that we can note is all of the main playable protagonists within these games are male. The
second pattern that we can note is the majority of the games listed above have a storyline written
about rescuing a princess – one of the only notable female characters within the game. Along with
this, the female characters are only story–advancing non–playable characters (NPC's). When the
online gaming community was first introduced and popularized in the early 2000's, females in the
gaming community quickly faced another obstacle; sexism. Anonymity within the gaming
community has become more than a tactic to hide your identity. For the majority of female gamers
in the gaming community, anonymity has become a crucial aid to avoid sexist comments and actions
from other online players. According to a 2006 Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) report,
women who were aged between 25–34 were out–playing males during non–console competitive
gaming. Also from this report, we can note that in the UK women have

What is the most mysterious video game you have ever played? The Legend of Zelda: Majora's

The mask finally now free, immediately began its plot to destroy the earth. Skull Kid summoned the
moon to come crashing down on Termina. In the interim, with three days of life left for everyone,
Link swiftly solved everyone's problems and re–ascended the moon back to space.
This three day period is not only an excellent addition to the story, but it is also a great challenge for
players. "Time steadily passes in the game while you play, with the daylight giving way to the
night..." (Stratton 14). "Each day is 18 minutes long, allowing for a whopping 54 minutes of game
time" (Mirabella). Accordingly, this added pressure can easily stump beginning players, but for
masters of Majora's Mask, time seems to stand still. The developers did not leave players without a
remedy for this time limit though; they provided players with the Ocarina of Time.
"Given to Link by Princess Zelda, this magical instrument calls forth legendary powers to aid Link
in his quest" (Stratton 21). The most useful way that Link can use the Ocarina of Time is to slow
time down, which doubles those precious 54 minutes into 108 stress–free minutes. In addition to
this, Link can use his Ocarina is to travel back to the dawn of the first day of the story. This allows
him another three days to try to save the world again. Most people who had complaints toward

Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild features a massive, open–world version of Hyrule. While story

state of decline. Link awakes from a state of suspended animation inside of an ancient shrine. A

able to collect those elegant blades as well. Weapons don't last forever though. Link's instruments of
destruction will degrade and break after heavy use, so he will need to be on the lookout for new
weapons throughout the adventure.
Link also demonstrated a new fighting technique, reminiscent of Witch Time from the Bayonetta

a quick barrage of attacks to be dealt.

Interestingly, 1991, the year when Nintendo launched the highly popular Super NES in the
US, was also the year that saw Nintendo's vision become Sony's opportunity–and the creation of
what could be described as Nintendo's "greatest challenge" for over a decade – the Sony PlayStation
("PS"). Nintendo had wanted to incorporate CD–ROM into their Super
NES, and Sony had agreed to create the PS for this purpose. However, over the next two years,
conflicts of vision between Nintendo and Sony continued, and the two finally parted ways.
Nintendo went ahead with Philips technology, 4 and Sony was left with the PS, which the company

series creator Shigeru Miyamoto showed off some footage of the game that, while only a small
glimpse, really gives the vibe that they actually are trying to take the franchise back to its roots.
This will be a breath of fresh air as most of the titles in the series don't even come close to feeling as

feel it's a good place to put up the old Zelda games and make sure they have a place instead of
altering them. That's the end of that time line now so let's wrap this

"Why is she always the one getting kidnapped? I'm the princess here!" – Amalia Sheran Sharm,

spear and was tasked to fight prehistoric monsters and save the current world , but due to production

Fox Adventures''1 due the similarities of the characters and setting . As expected, Krystal was
changed to Fox McCloud, the franchise's Main Protagonist but Krystal was kept in the game and

21. The Legend Of Zelda And Its Effect On The Game Industry
For 30 years, an elf–like dude in a green shirt has embarked on adventure after adventure. His
appearance changed, his setting changed, but his spirit never changed. Throughout the years, the
brunt of a specific journey reverberated throughout the video game industry. A new meaning of
adventure shook the foundation of video games; this new definition is "linked" to the Legend of
Zelda and it's green capped heroine. Thus, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time changed the
gaming landscape forever.
The Legend of Zelda is full of lore and history, that nobody knew about before Ocarina of Time. the
golden goddesses, also known as the old gods, are Din, the goddess of power, Nayru, the goddess of
wisdom, and Farore, the goddess of courage. These ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Overall, Ocarina of Time gave us an exciting backstory and history of another world that no other
game had given us ever before, but the game also gave fans creative and innovative game mechanics
never handled before. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, built on a super customized/advanced
version of Super Mario 64's engine, permitted new, never before seen features. Ocarina of time was
originally ported on a 64DD peripheral cartridge. The game ended up released on a 256–megabit
cartridge; the biggest Nintendo produced at the time due to the sheer size of Ocarina. Nintendo
added a "targeting system" which was entirely new to video games and the camera mechanics were
unprecedented. People felt that in a 3d game they couldn't move their character exactly where they
wanted them to go while moving in a three dimensional environment, especially while targeting.
Targeting can activate by pressing the Z trigger on the back of the N64 controller. This allowed the
camera to "lock–onto" an important object. This way when you move, the camera stays centered on
the enemy or important object. According to a Kotaku interview,Shigeru Miyamoto said "At that
time there really was no blueprint for how to create that kind of game in a 3D space," he explains.
"No–one had done it

22. Essay The Legend of Zelda: A Perfect Religion
Anyone who wants to call themselves a gamer has to have some idea as to what Zelda is. It is
among one of the most popular video game series out there and has created its own cultural
wellspring. There have been spin off cartoons, websites, walkthroughs, forms, etc...but strangely
enough the story for one of the video games doesn't change much. You are this elf looking boy or
adult named Link that is on a quest to rescue Princess Zelda, reunite the Triforce, and save the land
of Hyrule from evils such as Ganondorf. That is the general idea for almost every single one of the
Zelda games, but what is so different about the Zelda games is that they marked the beginning of the
gamer being able to actually guide Link. The gamers are allowed to ... Show more content on

This set up the way for the gamer to willing accept other ideas in the games, such as the religion of
Hyrule.
I have mentioned the religion of Hyrule multiple times now, but haven't explained what it actually is
yet. In essence, the religion of Hyrule is the perfect combination of all religions that allows for
players of all beliefs or none at all to come and enjoy the game and this is what I will be arguing.
Across the many games in the Zelda series, there are traces of Christianity, Muslim, Atheism, and
even Shinto, Japans primary religion. These traces all seem to combine into the central idea of the
Triforce, the legendary symbol of the Goddesses of Hyrule. The Triforce is made up of three
different parts which each represent different virtues. They are the Triforce of wisdom, Triforce of
courage, and Triforce of power. When the three pieces are combined, it creates the complete Triforce
which grants the inner most desire of person who touches it first. The Goddesses of Hyrule are Din,
Nayru, and Farore, who are said to have created the world, then created the Triforce, then elected the
hero of time (who is Link) to defend the land from the powers of evil that could arise if someone of
not pure heart gets ahold of the Triforce. The most interesting part about the three goddesses is the
idea that the normal person

There were two other BS Zelda games: Ancient Stone Tablets and Triforce of the Gods. Ancient
Stone Tablets was a sequel to A Link to the Past in which the player's BS avatar was drawn into
Hyrule while Triforce of the Gods was merely a port of A Link to the Past without even a name
change between the Japanese SNES and BS releases.
Stateside, American games didn't get the Satellaview and very few people owned a CD–i to play
those three games, and whether you'd want to is another story altogether, so effectively there was a
five year wait between Zelda releases in the States. The results would prove to be worth the wait.

The heavy use of cel–shaded animation gives the game a cartoony look and caused some people to
call it "Celda" for short. As the game takes place on a group of islands most of your time in traveling
from destination to destination is spent sailing rather than walking or riding on a horse. While you
can control the direction of the wind using the Wind Waker, you can't control how fast the wind

sailing to specific locations to search for pieces of the Triforce. Whatever its flaws though, Wind
Waker is certainly a "traditional" Zelda

24. The Legal Aspects Of Emulations And Emulators
GAMES
Convenience of Emulators: (Sinh Ly)
The legal aspects of emulations and emulators are tied with its association with ROMs, as defined
by Nintendo as Read Only Memory, which are usually illegally ripped (2015). An emulator is a
software that attempts to replicate the functions of another platform, in this case, a gaming console
or portable system, to run the code and interpret data from plugins that can interpret signals from a
controller and used with the program (Newman, 2013). The creation of emulators themselves are
perfectly legal as an "act of investigation and analysis" (Newman, 2013). If these emulators were to
be used in conjunction with new devices, such as the Retrode, which allows for classic game
cartridges to be read via USB on an emulator installed onto a computer, then the act would be
deemed legal (Orland, 2013). However, as the Orland stated himself, "These ROMS are legal, even
though they're identical to illegal ones you could find elsewhere,"(2013) such thoughts leads to the
negative connotation of 'promoting piracy' that is associated with emulators when the gaming
industry thinks of them. According to Nintendo (2015) on their opinions towards emulation:
The introduction of emulators created to play illegally copied Nintendo software represents the
greatest threat to date to the intellectual property rights of video game developers. As is the case
with any business or industry, when its products become available for free, the revenue stream

25. Zelda Wind Waker Research Paper
Students rarely have time where they can spend time doing the things that they revel in. One of the
most popular indulgences at ASU is that students love to play video games. Even though most
students would want to play more modernized games, I would highly suggest students take the time
to appreciate what the classic genre has to offer. The Zelda franchise literally formed the gaming
industry into the industry it is today. One of the games that has shifted the Zelda franchise is The
Legend of Zelda Wind Waker.
Similarly to the mass of the other ZELDA games; Wind Waker approaches gameplay with an almost
identical trial. On Outset Island it is a young warrior named Link's birthday. It is a special day where
he finally has the honor to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although he has a massive amount of health it, however, is not a good thing. You can fight an entire
swarm of enemies and not come close to dying. Even though it was supposed to be an exciting fix, it
pulls away from the challenge that so many players love. Boss battles are plentiful, but Link has too
much health for an intermediate to advanced player. But, this might be a better aspect for younger
players.
With rich, vibrant colors Wind Waker appeals to a more expansive age group. Instead of the dark
grotesque animations, Link is instead surrounded by fluid green and blues. For the time it was
created in Wind Waker excelled in animation. Even though the 3–D animation was a relatively new
and unestablished parameter, the animators did an impeccable job at creating a vivid platform.
Although the game lacks the realism of today, it does however, compare closely to the more
modernized generation of Nintendo games. Outstanding visuals can only be paired with energetic
and exciting music. The songs are fitting for each play through, with every step you take there is a
new synchronized melody playing in the background. Harmonizing with the beat of the music is a
sound effect that matches the heartbeat of the game; pulling the whole piece

Each time they look a bit different but they always hold that same basic form that they did in
previous games. This was all brought on by the curse that Demise placed on the three at the end of
Skyward Sword. Because both Link and Zelda were connected to Triforce and held the power of
courage and wisdom this curse could have also effected the three goddesses as their power lies in the
three pieces of the triforce. Something to note that back this up is the figurine found in the Minish
Cap of Nayru– the text describing her says : She is descended from a line of oracles in the land of
Labrynna. Din also had a figurine that eludes to this as well it states that – She's a famous dancer
from the land of Holodrum. The reason we mention these two figuries is because it shows that at
least two of the oracles have been reborn o at least once. Minish Cap takes place right after the event
of Skyward Sword but the Oracle games take place in the downfall timeline after the events of a link
to the past. Either these oracles lived for hundreds of years or they were reincarnated just like Link,
