My Personal Nursing Philosophy
Task
You are required to reflect on your own and your family s experience of health care, and the
experiences, beliefs and assumptions that have led you to choose to study nursing.
You are then required to explore the views and theories articulated by nursing theorists published in
scholarly literature, and apply what you learn to develop a personal nursing philosophy of care (1800
words +/ 10% including in text references).
Introduction
The focus of this essay is to demonstrate an understanding of my own experiences of health care, and
beliefs and assumptions that have led me to choose to study nursing. It took me a long time to decide
that I want to be a nurse, this inspiration came from all those nurses who are very passionate ... Show

By listening, I mean active listening. I want to understand their desires and concerns. I want to read
the feelings behind their words.
Third, I want them to feel cared for in every situation.
I want suffering patients to feel the comfort of a compassionate presence. If they need to talk to
someone, I want to be able to help them think of the things that bring meaning to their lives. Fourth, I
want my patients to feel that I am a competent nurse. When I come into the room, I don t want them to
wish it were someone else. I want them to feel they are in good hands. I want to give them a sense of
hope that the other staff and I will do everything we can and do it well.
Fifth, I want to have good relationships with my colleagues. I want to be known as a hard worker and
someone the patients like. I want my work to be an example to others.
I know I can t accomplish these goals on my own. I will need to work together with others. I will not
be able to accomplish them all the time. I need to remember that, because I get discouraged when
things do not go as planned.
I will have to keep myself healthy if I want to have the energy to attempt these goals. I want to keep
my motivation for nursing throughout the day

Comparison Of John Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men
Of Mice and Men is a film about companionship and compassion. The combination of superb sound,
cinematography, and the story makes Of Mice and Men an excellent movie. This film is about two
migrant workers named George and Lennie. Lennie is very stupid and cannot fend for himself and
George is his caretaker.George and Lennie travel to each job together. This is an overall great film.
The film starts a suspensefully with a woman running in a ripped red dress. There is eery music to set
the suspenseful tone. This is an excellent hook for consumers because this scene draws people in.
Lennie and George are running away from the intimidating men on horses. The beginning of this
movie gives of tension and excitement to the consumer. Overall this was a great start ... Show more

George and Lennie are two migrant workers during the Great Depression. Lennie and George work
and travel together. George cares for Lennie because Lennie is very dense and he cannot care for
himself. Lennie gets into some trouble when he grabbed a women s red dress to satisfy his craving for
soft objects, this frightens the woman and men go after them because they think that Lennie assaulted
her. Lennie and George run away and find another job, there they meet Curley, the boss s son, Curley s
wife, and Candy a disabled swamper. There is one exceptional scene where the rest of the workers
want to shoot Candy, the disabled swampers beloved dog. The other workers end up shooting Candy s
dog and when consumers watch this scene they do not see the dog being shot. Consumers see Candy s
body language while he hears the sound of the gun. Curley is immediately intimidated by Lennie
because he is a strong man. Curley s wife repeatedly flirts

Gun Censorship Research
Results. The first set of data to be looked at is gun ownership and the percentage of males and females
that agree or disagree to the ownership of guns. As can be seen on Table 1 which deals with gun
ownership it is seen that 30 percent of females are in favor of the ownership of guns, while 39 percent
of males say yes to gun ownership. Taking the difference from the percentages of males who say yes
and females who say yes , there is a difference of 9 percent. Using the rule of thumb for calculating a
relationship between the variables, because the difference is less than 11 percent, there is only a small
relationship among females and males who are in favor of gun ownership. When looking at the

Through a series of tests, focusing on keeping Gender the independent variable and testing it against 8
different dependent variable. The results from the study suggest that females tend to have more liberal
opinions towards public policy than males. This is not to say that there is a large relationship, in point
of fact there is a small to an almost non existent relationship. Though the hypothesis is not wrong, it is
not a correct to say with 100% certainty that females will always have more liberal opinions towards
public policy than males. As seen in Tables 7 and 8, both had small relationships and concluded that
for defense sending, males tended to hold more liberal opinions. And though small by only 5 points, it
still exists. The reason for the evening of opinions between males and females may attribute back to
Welch s argument in her paper Are Women More Liberal Than Men in the US Congress (Welch,
1985). Her conclusion was, though there is a small relationship with females holding more liberal
voting patterns, the gap seems to be dwindling as years progress. This could be due to the fact that
females are becoming a much more prominent force in politics as opposed to the past. The amount of
females with education may be increasing as well as become more independent from males and able
to stand their ground and hold firm opinions. This paper reaffirms this belief

Free Fall And Projectile Motion Lab Report
Freefall and Projectile Motion
Introduction and Objectives
This lab experiment was done to determine the characteristics of free fall and projectile motion in
Physics. The motion in which a body is thrown or projected is called Projectile motion while free fall
is any motion of a body where gravity is the only force acting upon it, at least initially.
In this experiment, a photogate, a chopper, and a Universal Lab Interface were used to determine the
free fall motion of the chopper as it was released. A ball, carbon paper, and an L shape projector were
also used to determine the range of projectile motion of a ball being released from a horizontal yet
slightly vertical slope. At the end of the experiment, one will know how velocity ... Show more

The Photogate has a beam of infrared light that travels from one side to the other. It can detect
whenever this beam is blocked. A Picket Fence or a chopper, a piece of clear plastic with equally
spread out black sections on it, was dropped. As the Picket Fence passes through the Photogate, the
computer will measure the time from the leading edge of one bar blocking the beam until the leading
edge of the next bar blocks the beam. This timing continues as all eight bars pass through the
Photogate. From these measured times, the program will calculate the velocities and accelerations for
this motion and graphs will be plotted.

The Role Of 2 Youth And Community Organisations
The piece will discuss an interagency project application between 2 youth and community
organisations, with the aim of securing local authority funding set within the youth commissioning
process. This piece will discuss a number of key components which are essential towards an effective
partnership and the success of a joint funding proposal. Furthermore this paper will provide a number
of areas that need to be considered and avoided in the process of the bid being rejected or suspended.
It is over the last 30 years that youth and community groups have experienced a major change in the
ways public services have been perceived, managed and provided. Merton et al (2009:94) claim the

According to the National Youth Agency (2012: 10) there are a number of different descriptions for
the commissioning process. However, essentially all follow a process of understand, plan, do and
review , which Merton (2009:99) states; is important to recognise that the full commissioning process

doing their job properly, they will have an eye to completing the full cycle of commissioning. A more

the commissioning framework for Every Child Matters (2006)
Policy makers have made it clear cut that local authorities can only provide and commission an
integrated youth offer with partners, in particular with organisations and services in the voluntary and
community sector Merton (2007:105). According to the NYA (2012:3) before embarking on any
commissioning it is important to ensure that: there is a commitment to shared vision, values and
principles; there are strong governance arrangements in place; there is a clear remit for the work; and
key partners and stakeholders have been identified.

Caffeine Intermolecular Forces Lab Report
The partial charges throughout caffeine molecules create dipoles, which in turn affect the
intermolecular forces between caffeine molecules. Caffeine s polarity permits the formation of dipole
dipole interactions between two caffeine molecules. The partial positive end of one caffeine molecule
will be attracted to the partial negative end of another caffeine molecule, creating a relatively strong
intermolecular force. The strength of this force will increase sublimation and melting points and
decrease volatility because more energy will be required to overcome the dipole dipole forces.
Because solutes dissolve in solvents with similar intermolecular forces, caffeine s polarity allows the
molecule to be soluble in polar solvents. The dipole dipole ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Various countries consumed caffeine containing plants as a source of energy in the past, while still
being unaware that the compound within the plants was causing the stimulating effects. In 1819,
Friedlieb Runge discovered and isolated caffeine, which gave rise to the production of new caffeine
containing products. Most individuals today consume caffeine in the form of coffee because of its
ability to decrease fatigue and drowsiness. Although caffeine is soluble in water at room temperature,
the molecules will not completely dissolve; therefore, coffee is made with hot water to dissolve a
greater quantity of the caffeine molecules. Caffeine produces its stimulating effect by interfering with
adenosine, a chemical in the nervous system that releases signals to notify the body when sleep is
needed. Adenosine is a by product of brain function and it will accumulate in the body throughout the
day. Eventually adenosine levels will reach a maximum, causing adenosine to start binding to receptor
sites to notify the brain to slow down cellular activity. Caffeine and adenosine are both alkaloids
(organic compounds composed of many nitrogen atoms) with similar shapes, ring structures and
covalent bonds, which allows caffeine to bind to adenosine receptors. Caffeine will occupy all
adenosine receptor sites, causing the brain to maintain cellular activity and not induce

The Roaring Twenties
The decade of 1920 1929 was a time of great change, reform, improvement, adjustment and alteration
of everything Americans had come to rely on. In other words everything changed. Not one part of
common life was unaffected. Exciting new events happened in sports, entertainment, science, politics,
communication and transportation. It was the age of prohibition, it was the age of prosperity, and it
was the age of downfall. The twenties were the age of everything. It has been called the decade of
enjoyment, employment, and for some, disappointment.

Jazz was popular for its spontaneity and flare, and it soon captured the new record industry. By 1924,
there were more than 2.5 million radios in American households. In 1920 the Westinghouse Company

shows until 1921, when the first musical radio program was aired. Sound movies were first seen in the
1920 s. The sound was not on the film, but on synchronized phonograph records, it became very
popular and the first full length talkie , The Jazz Singer , was released. In 1928, a 27 year old Walt
Disney introduced his first animated cartoon. The lead character, Mickey Mouse would later go on to
star in the first animated cartoon to use sound, Steamboat Willie . George Eastman demonstrated the
first color motion picture and in 1929 the first Academy awards were held.

Bud Light Rhetorical Analysis Essay
In Bud Light s advertisement for Bud Light Lime a lime flavored beer they use persuasive techniques
by depicting a giant beer bottle on a sunny island and attractive females around it with the slogan,
Dive into some lime and you ll have a good time, in order to get people to purchase their product. The
three main persuasive techniques are called: logos, pathos, and ethos. Logos is an appeal to logic as a
method of persuasion by reason, while pathos is an appeal to emotion in order to persuade. Lastly,
ethos is persuasion by way of ethics and presentation of character. The advertisement for Bud Light
Lime includes two of the previously mentioned techniques. The Bud Light advertisement uses pathos
and ethos to persuade potential consumers into buying Bud Light Lime. First, they use pathos by
showing the sunny island and mentioning you ll have a good time . This shows pathos because sunny
days and islands are associated with happiness to most people and this idea is further back up by the
promise of fun. Second, ethos is used by having attractive women next to the bottle. By doing this,
Bud Light is implying that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Similarities Between The Pearl And Animal Farm
Theme gives the reader a general idea about what the piece of literature is about. The character s
action and thoughts takes part in creating the theme. Animal farm was a book about animals taking
control of the farm from their tyrannic farmer. The animals attempts to make the farm a democracy,
but Napoleon, the pig leader, takes over and eventually becomes the new tyrant. The Pearl was about a
family, Kino, Juana, Coyotito, who catches a huge pearl. They go through a journey to get away from
any harm such as the trackers. In the book Animal Farm and the book The Pearl, the two characters,
Napoleon and the Doctor, created a theme that greed can change their perspective.
In Animal Farm, Napoleon was able to show how greed and abuse of power can change oneself.
Napoleon used his rank in the farm to change the commandments so that the rules and the farm would
be in his way. But a few days later Muriel, reading over the Seven Commandments to herself, noticed
that there was yet another of them which the animals had remembered wrong. They had thought the
Fifth Commandment was No animal shall drink alcohol, but there were two words that they had
forgotten. Actually the Commandment read: No animal shall drink alcohol to excess. The more Muriel
looked at the commandments, the more wrong she knew it looked. Napoleon changed the original
commandments to suit his wants to make sure the animals were in line for their jobs and did not rebel.

Mayan Creation Myths
Different cultures have different beliefs and values. In this paper, I will speak about two different
cultures and their creation myths. There are different myths floating around within each culture that
explain the creation of human, earth and animals. The two I have chosen is The Old Testament
Creation and The Mayans Creation. The Old Testament Creation is very common amongst individuals
today. This Creation involves Adam and Eve. The Mayans creation went through a series of changes
until the right humans were formed.
The Old Testament creation combines ex nihilo and deus faber motifs. God created the heavens and
the earth. It took God seven days to complete his creation. Day one, God separated light from
darkness. He called this day and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These myths shape the way people live their lives. The main purpose of creation myths in a culture is
to explain rituals, customs in beliefs. There are things that we may not be able to understand or
explain. Creation myths explains how humans were created, why we are imperfect, why we die, why
there is suffering and where we go when we die ( Creation Myth Gantjes , 2004). If you take the time
and look at how religions are linked to the history of creation myths, you ll see how it shapes the way
we view cultures. The Old Testament creation stated that Eve and Adam disobeyed Gods command.
The result from Adam being disobedient, he would have to work hard and suffer to survive. Eve had
to endure the pain of carrying a child and serve her husband. In Christianity today, this is the result of
men and women. We as women endure pain when carrying a child. Men have to work very hard to

The Importance Of The Post Office
The United States Post Office was established by the Second Continental Congress in 1775. The Post
Office has been part of American society for almost two centuries and through the years it has been
changing with America. It was an important method for people to communicate in the past, however,
is it relevant in today s society? The issue of eliminating or keeping the Post Office resulted in a
controversy among the United States. The Post Office should be eliminated due to the debt the post
office is facing each year, more usage of technology, and slow modifications.
Article 1 of the U.S. Constitution offers the Congress its powers and limits. According to Article I,
Section 8, Clause 7 of the United States Constitution, which is known as the Postal Clause, empowers
Congress To establish Post Offices and post Roads. The Postal Clause has been interpreted to provide
Congress the authority to appoint post offices and mail routes. Therefore, Congress has the power to
carry, deliver, and regulate the mails of the United States as a whole.
The first issue the Post Office has been struggling with is accumulated debt. For the past ten years, the
United States Postal Service documented annual losses around $15 billion. (usatoday) Furthermore, in
2012 the Post Office was unable to pay out their retiree health benefits of $11 billion. In 2013, the Post
Service tried to address the issues they have been facing in the past, they proposed lowering future

The Story Of Cinderella Retold As A Military Engagement
The story of Cinderella retold as a military engagement. Once upon a time, there was a group of
Marine reserves, 4th Division. Being given the some of the toughest training available by what they
thought of as their evil superiors. Day after day they had to scrub the barracks, keep the grounds clean,
stand on sentry duty all night long, plus having all their physical training for hours. Word was received
that the 2nd, 5th, and 6th Marine division were to spearhead an attack on a castle which was being
used as an enemy stronghold. The Big Brass knew through intelligence that there were between 5
7,000 troops in that castle, but the 2nd, 5th, and 6th had fought through much worse before. So no
reserves were to be needed. When this news was heard the Marine reserves were sorely disappointed,
for they were anxious to get in on the action. D day was set for September 2; H hour was 2400. Then
the news came that the 2nd Marine division could not take part, and it was D 4. The Marine reserves
were to be deployed immediately. At 2200 hours, D day, they were completely prepared to attack.
Assembled a quarter mile from the castle walls, the Marines had set up artillery pieces. Giant 155mm
M114s, and 105mm M101s were ready to start pounding the walls. Meanwhile, inside the castle, all of
the enemies top military Generals were gathered along with the King and the Prince to devise a
defence plan. There was nothing the Marines wanted to do more than meet the Prince, who was an

Analysis Of One Flew Over The Cuckoo s Nest By Ken Kesey
Sigmund Freud was someone who turned clinical psychology on its head; therefore, it only makes
sense that he would be an inspiration for someone who completely redefined literature. In the novel
One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest author Ken Kesey weaves an intricate, while subtextual, theme that
mirrors concepts of Freudian psychology. About a decade after publication, in her article Kesey and
Freud, former Northeastern University professor Ruth Sullivan analyzes the progression and impact of
Kesey s use of Freudian psychology, most specifically, Kesey s use of Freud s Oedipus Complex as it
pertains to the characters Nurse Ratched, R.P. McMurphy, and Chief Bromden. While it is true that
McMurphy and Bromden represent the typical Freudian father son ... Show more content on

According to an article titled The Oedipal Crisis, the main stages of the Oedipal Complex that deals
with a mother are that, the first love object for [the son] is the mother, the young boy is threatened by
the father s relationship with his mother, and the father is perceived as an enemy.
(http://www.changingstates.co.uk/freud.html). Nurse Ratched never fulfills any of those roles; in fact,
she is seen as the clear enemy the whole entire book. The enemy is never McMurphy; instead, Nurse
Ratched is described as the root of all the trouble here (Kesey, 185). Ratched and McMurphy s
relationship is not sexual and the men on the ward are never envious of McMurphy for his relationship
with Nurse Ratched. Instead, Nurse Ratched is seen as a woman who McMurphy describes as a ball
cutter (Kesey, 60) Nurse Ratched is not someone who is seen as appealing or attractive or warm like a
Freudian mother, rather, she is a woman that makes a man powerless and asexual. Freud s Oedipal
triangle is clearly missing one point because the Big Nurse does not fulfill the concept of a Freudian
mother. That is where Sullivan s analysis falls

An Assessment Of A Differing Viewpoint
An assessment of a differing viewpoint. On the other hand, some people believe that families should
make medical decisions for a patient. Family members can rationalize this behavior as protecting their
loved ones from a terminal diagnosis and the fear of death. Other perspectives of hiding medical
information can include the rational of not confusing a patient who is already ill, causing more pain,
leaving a patient without hope, or even the fear that the patient may consider suicide if they know their
life will end anyway (Bok, 1987, p 185).
Reconstruction
Paternalistic secrecy is defined as adult children purposely misleading the parent by keeping medical

Bok also believes that there is the notion that patient s do not want bad news and they prefer not to
have to face serious illness or death. In doing this, doctors and families are lying or concealing the
truth as not to confuse a sick person or leave them without hope, therefore improving the changes of
recovery (Bok, 1987, 185).
Analysis
Allen believes that paternalistic secrecy was a major feature in health care, but the ideas of patient
autonomy and informed consent do not happen. Health care is changing from the doctor is always
right, to asking questions about care and making decisions with the health care team. He does
maintain that in some cultures, this is tolerable, and wanted by patients, as it is what they know and
seek conform in this method. The family can take care of them as the patient is ill and will prepare for
the end of life care. Allen does go on to state that if deception is wrong, then lying about medical
treatment and prognosis is unethical (Allen, 2015). Bok argues that being lied to will result in angry
and disappointed patients, although they usually do not want the bad news, and the majority of
patients do not want to face serious illness or death. If a patient knows the medical team is lying to
them, they will lose trust in the process and the medical team. While it is true that people do not want
to face their death, they would rather plan to prepare their loved ones for this, instead of not
understanding what is going on with

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Personality Theory
MBTI Jackelyn Rivera Ferreyra Argosy University, 2017 Page Break The Myers Briggs Type
Indicator Personality (MBTI) was developed by Briggs Myers and her mother Katharine Cook Briggs
in 1943 during the onset of World War II (Ham, 2016). Briggs recognized the need for psychological
instruments that would value human differences and utilized the C G Jungs theory in creating the
MBTI (The Story of Isabel Briggs Myers, n.d). According to The Myers Briggs Foundation (2014)
Myers and Briggs initially tested a group of 20 relatives and friends. They utilized such sample,
because they thought they could predict their personality solemnly on observation which by
observation. The initial random sample did not truly represent a whole population, but merely were
used due to availability. At the beginning, the MBTI was only used in adults (The Myers Briggs
Foundation, 2014). In 1944 the form C of the MBTI instruments was developed, which was used as
employment screening. As Myers continued to expand her instrument she applied it to the medical
field. In 1951 she tested 5,355 medical students at 45 medical schools, to analyze satisfactory in the
field, such reports were presented at the American Psychological Association conference in 1964 (The

to strictly attribute that to their physical makeup stigmatizes them as inherently inferior. This is no
different than stigmatizes a person because of the color of their skin. Thus, MacKinnon s effort to

Synthesis and Reflection on LEAD6163
This author has been involved in teaching and leadership activities as a member of the Port Orange
Church of the Nazarene (PONAZ), a small church in eastern Florida. Florida Department of State,
Division of Corporations (2017) stated that PONAZ was founded in 1985, with the current
congregation at about 110 attendees for Sunday morning worship. Other than Sunday worship,
programs provided by PONAZ include a preschool, Sunday School, children and youth activities,
recovery groups, and community outreach events. Recently, with the unexpected death of the long
time superintendent of church ministries, a need for the appointment of a strong leader was created.
Desired Leader Characteristics
The ideal leader of PONAZ church ministries would be able to exhibit concern for others as a
necessary soft skill found to be at the top of the list of admired qualities by Marques (2013). Marques
(2013) noted other important soft skills which included honesty, being true to values and beliefs,
humility and having the ability to lead by example. Each of these characteristics would be necessary
for a leader at PONAZ.
Drucker (2005) discussed leaders with values that fit with the organization. At PONAZ, as a Christian
organization, leaders must demonstrate characteristics that identify them as Christ followers. Evans
(1996) discussed leaders needing to walk the talk (p.2). Some of the Christ like characteristics include

Milton s Inferno
In Paradise Lost Milton breaks down the universe into three layers: Heaven, Earth and finally Hell.
The top layer belongs to Heaven, this is due to the fact that God created Earth and as a result the
deserting Angels created Hell. The second layer is Earth due to its close ties to both and the final layer
is Hell. Milton employs contrasts in order to establish the perception of Heaven and Hell he wants to
convey to his readers. In Milton s universe Hell is continuously described as filled with darkness,
sorrow and eternal punishment for the demons that were once Angel s under God s command. In book
1 Milton refers to Hell as a dungeon horrible, on all sides round, As one great furnace flamed; yet

Faustus Marlowe portrays hell as limitless. This is similar to Milton s portrayal of Hell because neither

when he reveals to Faustus that Hell hath no limits, nor is circumscribed In one self place; for where
we are is hell, And where hell is, there must we ever be... (5.120 124). However, unlike Milton,
Marlowe doesn t classify hell as a state of mind. In Dr. Faustus a person s mind is not what allows
Hell to be everywhere at once, what allows this is the absence of God. As discussed earlier, Marlowe
establishes that Heaven is found only in the presence of God and wherever God is missing, there is
hell, Mephastopilis confirms this when he says ...all places shall be hell that is not heaven (5.125).
This further emphasizes the that anywhere in which God is absent should be considered heaven the
The only sure way to go to hell, is to denounce God, even those who have sinned can be saved as long
as they repent. Unlike Milton, Marlowe fights throughout his work against the concept of hell as a
state of mind. Faustus originally believes that there is no Hell, that it is simply a frame of mind which
is why he is so willing to take Lucifer s deal in exchange of getting what he wants. At the end of the
last act Faustus is taken by Hell and he finally realizes that what he believed about the existence of
hell is false and that Hell is as real as he is but the

Should Napoleon Be Considered A Hero Essay
Should Napoleon Bonaparte Be Considered A Hero or tarrant?
A hero is defined as a man who starts from the bottom and climbs the top to achieve greatness based
on his talent. Should Napoleon be considered as a hero? Mostly people would argue that Napoleon is a
hero as his brave nature made France one of the superior countries in the world. I believe Napoleon
was a hero, as his many accomplishments improved the French society and ultimately enlightened the
world. Not only he did better for France through his policy but he also expanded the boundaries of
France with many battles through his strategically planned military. He gave citizens of France the
pride they needed.
Being a military genius, Napoleon won many battles to expand his French territory. His strategic
military plans throughout many wars made him a hero all over the Europe. Although his army was less
than half by Austrians Napoleon s brilliant strategies resulted in a defeat of his enemy armies in the
Battle of Austerlitz. In many other battles that Napoleon won he always used his military ... Show

Driving Forces Affecting The Environment And Competitive...
There are several driving forces affecting the environment and competitive structure within the child
care. We will examine them in greater detail below.
As technology advances, more and more consumers are looking to the internet to make their
purchasing decisions, including child care. In addition, to fully research options, consumers are
looking for more robust, interactive websites. Therefore, some child care centers are offering virtual
walkthrough s of their facility on their website. Additionally, many centers offer tuition calculators
(customizable pricing based on hours required and the child s age), real time waiting list information,
and the facility calendar up to one year in advance. Another is the increase in the ability to ... Show

As incomes rise the market for premium child care options, which may include upgraded preschool
options, nutritional offerings to cater to many different diets and eating styles (e.g. vegan, Paleo, nut
free, gluten free etc.). Conversely, if the nay sayers have their way and the U.S. again faces an
economic downturn and jobs are lost, the decreasing market will increase competition among child
care centers to attempt to maintain their market share.
Some Montessori s participate in the state subsidy programs which assist low income families in
paying for their child care. This expands their market and increases their market share, however to
participate in these programs requires the center be susceptible to the frequent regulatory and
governmental policy changes. This can place an exceptional burden on the child care providers to
remain abreast of the requirements and meet them, despite the possibility of frequent changes.
One other area of concern for local Montessori s and child care centers nationally is the fluctuations in
societal concerns for the children enrolled. In the past twenty years public opinion, research, and
scholarly recommendations have oscillated between enrollment results in lower development in the
child, to enhanced development and everything in between. While public opinion certainly affects the
industry, parents will still need child care, therefore this driving force has a rather weak influence on
the industry.

A Prince By Lao Tzu
Rattling the Cages
The actions of individuals are controlled essentially by one thing, the mind of that individual. The
citizens of this world are able to partake in any actions they desire. People should forget the thought of
limits and restraints and everything should govern itself. Doing nothing will allow everything to
harmonize with each other. These ideas come from the writer Lao tzu in the piece called Thoughts
from the Tao te Ching. Lao tzu presents many idealist ways in his writing. The main focus is on the
idea that people are able to govern themselves and partake in the actions they desire without restraint.
As he wisely states, Practice not doing, and everything will fall into place (206, Lao tzu). This advice

Restraint is an aspect that is required today in order to have a successful government and society.
Without limiting certain elements of culture, such as military and pollution, society would slowly
decay. Society should incorporate both the idealistic ways of Lao tzu and the realistic ways of
Machiavelli in restraint in order to maintain civility. The advice given by Lao tzu is idealistic and
revolves around the idea of practicing nothing. First is the idea that civilians of this world are able to
govern themselves; limits and restraint must not exisit. The government would still exist, but not
present itself in the daily lives of the people; the ability to carry out actions more freely would
increase. The government should be able to rule and the citizens not be aware of its existence.
Freedom on all levels allows true happiness to prevail. People would be content in their own ways and
not want to leave the country and travel. Ultimately, by practicing nothing, all the elements of the
world would simply fall into place and maintain themselves. Sadly, the outcome of pure happiness
would not prevail. With no limits or laws, individuals are free to do as they please. This would not
result in perfect harmony between people, but would create more chaos. Not all humans possess good
morals to discourage them from violent and criminal behavior. Laws and restraints are crucial to have

The Articles of Confederation laid down some of the fundamentals of our national government, but
still it had many flaws, such as an inability to regulate commerce and an inability to tax, among others
(Scholastic Update, 2). The main players in the organizing and writing of the Constitution are
Alexander Hamilton of New York, James Madison of Virginia, and George Washington. They believed
in a stronger national government and Congress right to regulate trade. In response to Shay s rebellion
which consisted of farmers protesting taxes, a convention was called for by Madison and Hamilton to

Businesses are becoming ever more dependent on digital information and electronic transactions, and
as a result face stringent data privacy compliance challenges and data security regulations. With the
enterprise increasingly under threat of cyber attacks and malicious insiders, business applications and

Comparing Princess Mononoke And Disney Movies

When I first saw Princesses Mononoke at five, I didn t understand any conflict or meaning of the film.
Only the scene where the Forest Spirit is finding his head and killing all the living things on earth

movie is so scary... how nice will it be if this princess is a Disney princess. I have believed for a long

I say
After becoming a young adult and rewatching Princess Mononoke again, my old thought of the film,
which was Princess Mononoke being produced by Disney will be more successful, has twisted. The
style of Studio Ghibli provided the movie the unique, exciting, and memorable features. To be more
specific, the fascinating and well thought storyline was the most outstanding part of the film. How
Hayao Miyazaki did not separate good and evil with a clear defined line; illustrated a deeper
environmentalist message than Disney films; created an open ending which gives the audiences more
space to imagine and contemplate, are all what made the film a big hit during the 1990s.

Epiphary In Katherine Mansfield s The Garden Party
There are many reasons behind an author s story. Mainly it is to portray a message, give a good laugh,
or explain a purpose, but the author will get their point across to their readers. In Katherine Mansfield
s, The Garden Party, she focuses on a young, upperclass girl, with the name of Laura Sheridan. During
the story, the Sheridan family is preparing to host a very lively garden party. Unfortunately for the
circumstance, there has been a death in their community. The Scott family, who is of the middle class,
had just lost their husband and their father. The wake for Mr. Scott just so happens to be during the
time of the garden party. The separation of classes causes an unsettling act of sympathy from Laura.
She can not decide whether to be on the right side or the wrong side of the situation. The death of Mr.
Scott allows Laura Sheridan to experience an epiphany, as she encounters the difference s between the
upper and middle classes, life and death, and a new perspective of life. Many people are often judged
by their appearances, living arrangements, or income status. That is how the world views and

There were a few middle class workers hired to set up a marquee at the Sheridan house. Since Laura
was considered to be the artistic one (EastoftheWeb 2) of her siblings, she was chosen to conduct the
hired workers on where to set up the marquee. During her time as supervisor, she overhears a tragic

Speech Codes Theory Essay
I. Speech codes theory Speech codes theory is an account of communication as a deeply cultured
human activity. The theory, and the empirical research on which it is built, demonstrate that the kinds
of local knowledge people deploy to talk about to characterize, interpret, and rationalize their
communicative conduct is indeed local, particular knowledge, and that such knowledge can be
discovered and described through systematic inquiry. This article describes the key theoretical
commitments of speech codes theory, identifies its six propositions, illustrates research within the
tradition, and assesses its purposes. Speech codes theory was first published in prototypical form with
an introduction to the concept of speech codes and a presentation of four empirically grounded
principles about speech codes (Philipsen, 1992). Then it was presented as a formal theoretical
statement with five empirically grounded propositions, four of which were carried over intact from the
earlier version (Philipsen, 1997). Speech codes theory was created for two purposes. One purpose was
to distill some of what might be learned from a large body of fieldwork research on culturally
distinctive ways of speaking. When the first version of speech codes theory was written, there had
been established a large body of fieldwork about cultural ways of speaking that had been conducted
and published under the auspices of the ethnography of speaking (Hymes, 1968). Some 250 of these
studies were cited in

Along these lines, one of my favourite songs in the world is a Brazilian one about never losing touch

Speech On Secondhand Smoke
Our Society and Secondhand Smoke
Secondhand smoke is serious health hazard to everyone; in order to lessen, if not totally eliminate,
children s exposure to cigarette smoke and to encourage the cigarette smokers to be more responsible
for the sake of others, amending the tobacco regulation act is a must. Secondhand smoke is a mixture
of the smoke from the burning end of a cigarette, pipe or cigar combined with the smoke breathed out
by a smoker. Secondhand smoke is accountable for 42,000 deaths annually to nonsmokers in the
United States, including nearly 900 infants, according to a new UCSF (University of California San
Francisco) study. Altogether, annual deaths from secondhand smoke represent nearly 600,000 years of
potential life lost an average of 14.2 years per person and $6.6 billion in lost productivity, amounting
to $158,000 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to a 2009 survey conducted by DOH (Department of Health) and Philippine Statistics
Authority, 28.3 percent of the population are current tobacco smokers. Among nonsmokers, about
46,000 heart disease deaths and 3,400 lung cancer deaths are caused by secondhand smoke each year.
Some research suggests that breathing in other people s smoke may increase the risk of breast cancer
and nasal sinus cancer. According to the National Cancer Institute, about 250 of the more than 7,000
chemicals in secondhand tobacco smoke are known to be harmful, and about 70 of them cause cancer.
Some of the chemicals in this toxic mix are the same things used to make chemical weapons, lighter
fluid, pesticides, car batteries, paint thinners and other substances you would never dream of inhaling
into your lungs. We have a chance to do something about the harmful effects of secondhand smoke
and it s feasible for our lawmakers to tackle this issue right now because certain measures have been

getting Cushing s disease. It is the most common hormone related disease in dogs. There are other
causes of this disease in dogs like taking medicine with Cortisol in it for a long period of time or
having a tumor in the adrenal gland. However, the main cause of this disease in dogs is their bodies

Canine Life Expectancy With Cushing s Disease
The canine Cushing disease life expectancy depends on where the disease originated. If it started in
the adrenal gland, the life expectancy of canines with Cushings Disease is usually about three years. If
the dog has a pituitary gland issue, then they can be expected to live about two years. The younger a
dog is when their Cushing disease is diagnosed, the better their canine Cushing disease life expectancy
will be.
Other health problems, like diabetes and infections, can reduce the life expectancy of canines with
Cushings Disease. Other health problems like tumors that spread from the pituitary gland into the

Real Estate Investing Research Paper
To many people, real estate investing sounds like an old man s game. It s not something the average
person gets involved in and it s difficult to do. Well, all of these statements are complete myths. More
people are learning the value of buying and holding on to real estate as an investment. It is certainly
not a venture reserved for old people either. College students who are wise with the money, have been
known to buy a property and start collecting rental income before they walk across the stage with their
degree. With determination, savvy and wisdom, anyone can and should invest in real estate. Consider
these four reasons:
1. Forced Retirement Plan

Once you purchase a property and become a landlord, there will be times that tenants will need help
with maintenance issues, but the income is consistent and reliable. It is one of the most sure fire
businesses to invest in because people will always need a place to stay and call home. Owning several
homes and renting them out to various tenants will allow you to pay off those properties quickly and
then continue to enjoy the cash flow.
3. Builds Assets
It is important to have assets outside of an income from a singular job. When you invest in real estate,
you simultaneously increase your net worth. Net worth is very helpful and important especially if you
are trying to leave a legacy. If you d like to leave money to your children and grand children, real
estate is one of the best ways to do this. They can decide to keep the properties and continue renting
them out for cash flow. Or they can sell the properties for one large, lump sum and invest that money
in another way. It s not always about how much money you have but it s also about building assets and
creating wealth.
4. Tax Benefits
Taxes are one of the main things people hate to pay. However, as a real estate investor, you can do a
lot of tax write offs against your personal income which will help. You also can enjoy the benefits of
tax free income because of depreciation and mortgage interest

Role Model Worthy For The Field Of Social Work
There are many interesting and role model worthy people in the field of social work and social justice
in general. A few of these people include: Francis Feldman, Charles Loring Brace, Grace Abbott, and
many more. All of these people are worth of talking about when thinking of the idea of my personal
role model, but I find one woman to stand out more than the others. She is the woman who started
many social justice movements. This woman is the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize and demonstrated
the ethics and values that became the basis of the 100 year old social work profession ( Jane Addams ,
1998). She accomplished a lot in her life time and I can only hope to accomplish half of what she did.

In 1889, the two leased the house built by Charles Hull and began one of the most important and
successful things that Addams did in her lifetime. Adams and Starr made speeches about the needs of
the neighborhood, raised money, convinced young women of well to do families to help, took care of
children, nursed the sick, listened to outpourings from troubled people ( Jane Addams Biographical,
n.d.). This same article states that by its second year of existence, the Hull House hosted around two
thousand people a week. The Hull House consisted of eighteen national groups: Italian, Greek,
Mexican, British, Scandinavian, Polish, German, Russian, Czechoslovakian, French, Lithuanian,
Hungarian, Swiss, Rumanian, Yugoslavian, Belgian, Finnish and Dutch ( Spartacus Educational ,
n.d.). The people who lived there paid rent and contributed to the various activities and services that
the house provided. These activities and services included things that helped them and others in the
community ( About Jane Addams , n.d.). These various programs include: an employment bureau,
children s clubs, music classes, and classes in language, painting, and mathematics ( Jane Addams,
1998). The Hull House also offered a nursery, kindergarten, public kitchen, and access to public baths,
a playground, an art gallery, coffee house, gym, pool, and much more ( About Jane Addams, n.d.).

  • 4. Gun Censorship Research Results. The first set of data to be looked at is gun ownership and the percentage of males and females that agree or disagree to the ownership of guns. As can be seen on Table 1 which deals with gun ownership it is seen that 30 percent of females are in favor of the ownership of guns, while 39 percent of males say yes to gun ownership. Taking the difference from the percentages of males who say yes and females who say yes , there is a difference of 9 percent. Using the rule of thumb for calculating a relationship between the variables, because the difference is less than 11 percent, there is only a small relationship among females and males who are in favor of gun ownership. Through a series of tests, focusing on keeping Gender the independent variable and testing it against 8 different dependent variable. The results from the study suggest that females tend to have more liberal opinions towards public policy than males. This is not to say that there is a large relationship, in point of fact there is a small to an almost non existent relationship. Though the hypothesis is not wrong, it is not a correct to say with 100% certainty that females will always have more liberal opinions towards public policy than males. As seen in Tables 7 and 8, both had small relationships and concluded that for defense sending, males tended to hold more liberal opinions. And though small by only 5 points, it still exists. The reason for the evening of opinions between males and females may attribute back to Welch s argument in her paper Are Women More Liberal Than Men in the US Congress (Welch, 1985). Her conclusion was, though there is a small relationship with females holding more liberal voting patterns, the gap seems to be dwindling as years progress. This could be due to the fact that females are becoming a much more prominent force in politics as opposed to the past. The amount of females with education may be increasing as well as become more independent from males and able to stand their ground and hold firm opinions. This paper reaffirms this belief ... Free Fall And Projectile Motion Lab Report Freefall and Projectile Motion Introduction and Objectives This lab experiment was done to determine the characteristics of free fall and projectile motion in Physics. The motion in which a body is thrown or projected is called Projectile motion while free fall is any motion of a body where gravity is the only force acting upon it, at least initially. In this experiment, a photogate, a chopper, and a Universal Lab Interface were used to determine the free fall motion of the chopper as it was released. A ball, carbon paper, and an L shape projector were also used to determine the range of projectile motion of a ball being released from a horizontal yet slightly vertical slope. As the Picket Fence passes through the Photogate, the computer will measure the time from the leading edge of one bar blocking the beam until the leading edge of the next bar blocks the beam. This timing continues as all eight bars pass through the Photogate. From these measured times, the program will calculate the velocities and accelerations for this motion and graphs will be plotted. http://www.waukeshasouth.com/physics1/photo.html ... • 7. Caffeine Intermolecular Forces Lab Report The partial charges throughout caffeine molecules create dipoles, which in turn affect the intermolecular forces between caffeine molecules. Caffeine s polarity permits the formation of dipole dipole interactions between two caffeine molecules. The partial positive end of one caffeine molecule will be attracted to the partial negative end of another caffeine molecule, creating a relatively strong intermolecular force. The strength of this force will increase sublimation and melting points and decrease volatility because more energy will be required to overcome the dipole dipole forces. Because solutes dissolve in solvents with similar intermolecular forces, caffeine s polarity allows the molecule to be soluble in polar solvents. The dipole dipole ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Various countries consumed caffeine containing plants as a source of energy in the past, while still being unaware that the compound within the plants was causing the stimulating effects. In 1819, Friedlieb Runge discovered and isolated caffeine, which gave rise to the production of new caffeine containing products. Most individuals today consume caffeine in the form of coffee because of its ability to decrease fatigue and drowsiness. Although caffeine is soluble in water at room temperature, the molecules will not completely dissolve; therefore, coffee is made with hot water to dissolve a greater quantity of the caffeine molecules. Caffeine produces its stimulating effect by interfering with adenosine, a chemical in the nervous system that releases signals to notify the body when sleep is needed. Adenosine is a by product of brain function and it will accumulate in the body throughout the day. Eventually adenosine levels will reach a maximum, causing adenosine to start binding to receptor sites to notify the brain to slow down cellular activity. Caffeine and adenosine are both alkaloids (organic compounds composed of many nitrogen atoms) with similar shapes, ring structures and covalent bonds, which allows caffeine to bind to adenosine receptors. Caffeine will occupy all adenosine receptor sites, causing the brain to maintain cellular activity and not induce ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the book Animal Farm and the book The Pearl, the two characters, Napoleon and the Doctor, created a theme that greed can change their perspective. In Animal Farm, Napoleon was able to show how greed and abuse of power can change oneself. Napoleon used his rank in the farm to change the commandments so that the rules and the farm would be in his way. But a few days later Muriel, reading over the Seven Commandments to herself, noticed that there was yet another of them which the animals had remembered wrong. They had thought the Fifth Commandment was No animal shall drink alcohol, but there were two words that they had forgotten. Actually the Commandment read: No animal shall drink alcohol to excess. The Post Office has been part of American society for almost two centuries and through the years it has been changing with America. It was an important method for people to communicate in the past, however, is it relevant in today s society? The issue of eliminating or keeping the Post Office resulted in a controversy among the United States. The Post Office should be eliminated due to the debt the post office is facing each year, more usage of technology, and slow modifications. Article 1 of the U.S. Constitution offers the Congress its powers and limits. According to Article I, Section 8, Clause 7 of the United States Constitution, which is known as the Postal Clause, empowers Congress To establish Post Offices and post Roads. The Postal Clause has been interpreted to provide Congress the authority to appoint post offices and mail routes. Analysis Of One Flew Over The Cuckoo s Nest By Ken Kesey Sigmund Freud was someone who turned clinical psychology on its head; therefore, it only makes sense that he would be an inspiration for someone who completely redefined literature. In the novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest author Ken Kesey weaves an intricate, while subtextual, theme that mirrors concepts of Freudian psychology. About a decade after publication, in her article Kesey and Freud, former Northeastern University professor Ruth Sullivan analyzes the progression and impact of Kesey s use of Freudian psychology, most specifically, Kesey s use of Freud s Oedipus Complex as it pertains to the characters Nurse Ratched, R.P. McMurphy, and Chief Bromden. While it is true that McMurphy and Bromden represent the typical Freudian father son ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to an article titled The Oedipal Crisis, the main stages of the Oedipal Complex that deals with a mother are that, the first love object for [the son] is the mother, the young boy is threatened by the father s relationship with his mother, and the father is perceived as an enemy. (http://www.changingstates.co.uk/freud.html). Nurse Ratched never fulfills any of those roles; in fact, she is seen as the clear enemy the whole entire book. The enemy is never McMurphy; instead, Nurse Ratched is described as the root of all the trouble here (Kesey, 185). Ratched and McMurphy s relationship is not sexual and the men on the ward are never envious of McMurphy for his relationship with Nurse Ratched. Instead, Nurse Ratched is seen as a woman who McMurphy describes as a ball cutter (Kesey, 60) Nurse Ratched is not someone who is seen as appealing or attractive or warm like a Freudian mother, rather, she is a woman that makes a man powerless and asexual. Freud s Oedipal triangle is clearly missing one point because the Big Nurse does not fulfill the concept of a Freudian mother. That is where Sullivan s analysis falls ... Family members can rationalize this behavior as protecting their loved ones from a terminal diagnosis and the fear of death. Other perspectives of hiding medical information can include the rational of not confusing a patient who is already ill, causing more pain, leaving a patient without hope, or even the fear that the patient may consider suicide if they know their life will end anyway (Bok, 1987, p 185). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bok also believes that there is the notion that patient s do not want bad news and they prefer not to have to face serious illness or death. In doing this, doctors and families are lying or concealing the truth as not to confuse a sick person or leave them without hope, therefore improving the changes of recovery (Bok, 1987, 185). Analysis Allen believes that paternalistic secrecy was a major feature in health care, but the ideas of patient autonomy and informed consent do not happen. Health care is changing from the doctor is always right, to asking questions about care and making decisions with the health care team. He does maintain that in some cultures, this is tolerable, and wanted by patients, as it is what they know and seek conform in this method. The family can take care of them as the patient is ill and will prepare for the end of life care. Allen does go on to state that if deception is wrong, then lying about medical treatment and prognosis is unethical (Allen, 2015). Bok argues that being lied to will result in angry and disappointed patients, although they usually do not want the bad news, and the majority of patients do not want to face serious illness or death. If a patient knows the medical team is lying to them, they will lose trust in the process and the medical team. It is this mindset that raises women up and puts them on level ground with men. This is not to say that women are not sexually victimized more than men, but to strictly attribute that to their physical makeup stigmatizes them as inherently inferior. • 21. Milton s Inferno In Paradise Lost Milton breaks down the universe into three layers: Heaven, Earth and finally Hell. The top layer belongs to Heaven, this is due to the fact that God created Earth and as a result the deserting Angels created Hell. The second layer is Earth due to its close ties to both and the final layer is Hell. Milton employs contrasts in order to establish the perception of Heaven and Hell he wants to convey to his readers. In Milton s universe Hell is continuously described as filled with darkness, sorrow and eternal punishment for the demons that were once Angel s under God s command. (5.120 124). However, unlike Milton, Marlowe doesn t classify hell as a state of mind. In Dr. Faustus a person s mind is not what allows Hell to be everywhere at once, what allows this is the absence of God. As discussed earlier, Marlowe establishes that Heaven is found only in the presence of God and wherever God is missing, there is hell, Mephastopilis confirms this when he says ...all places shall be hell that is not heaven (5.125). This further emphasizes the that anywhere in which God is absent should be considered heaven the The only sure way to go to hell, is to denounce God, even those who have sinned can be saved as long as they repent. Unlike Milton, Marlowe fights throughout his work against the concept of hell as a state of mind. Faustus originally believes that there is no Hell, that it is simply a frame of mind which is why he is so willing to take Lucifer s deal in exchange of getting what he wants. At the end of the last act Faustus is taken by Hell and he finally realizes that what he believed about the existence of hell is false and that Hell is as real as he is but the ... Some Montessori s participate in the state subsidy programs which assist low income families in paying for their child care. This expands their market and increases their market share, however to participate in these programs requires the center be susceptible to the frequent regulatory and governmental policy changes. This can place an exceptional burden on the child care providers to remain abreast of the requirements and meet them, despite the possibility of frequent changes. One other area of concern for local Montessori s and child care centers nationally is the fluctuations in societal concerns for the children enrolled. In the past twenty years public opinion, research, and scholarly recommendations have oscillated between enrollment results in lower development in the child, to enhanced development and everything in between. The advice given by Lao tzu is idealistic and revolves around the idea of practicing nothing. The government would still exist, but not present itself in the daily lives of the people; the ability to carry out actions more freely would increase. The theory, and the empirical research on which it is built, demonstrate that the kinds of local knowledge people deploy to talk about to characterize, interpret, and rationalize their communicative conduct is indeed local, particular knowledge, and that such knowledge can be discovered and described through systematic inquiry. This article describes the key theoretical commitments of speech codes theory, identifies its six propositions, illustrates research within the tradition, and assesses its purposes. Speech codes theory was first published in prototypical form with an introduction to the concept of speech codes and a presentation of four empirically grounded principles about speech codes (Philipsen, 1992). Then it was presented as a formal theoretical statement with five empirically grounded propositions, four of which were carried over intact from the earlier version (Philipsen, 1997). Speech codes theory was created for two purposes. One purpose was to distill some of what might be learned from a large body of fieldwork research on culturally distinctive ways of speaking. When the first version of speech codes theory was written, there had been established a large body of fieldwork about cultural ways of speaking that had been conducted and published under the auspices of the ethnography of speaking (Hymes, 1968).
