Success Through Organizational Development Essay
Success through Organizational Development
BUS 370: Organizational Development
Heather Strouse
June 27, 2011
Success through Organizational Development Organizational development is a learning tool that can
be utilized not only for professional success but for personal success in life as well. This particular
tool or resources deals directly with change and who to best deal with the changes in order to produce
a good outcome for all involved. Our text teaches us that, Organizational development (OD)
comprises the long range efforts and programs aimed at improving an organization s ability to survive
by changing its problem solving and renewal processes, (Brown, D.R., Harvey D., pg. 3). Making
adjustments in the areas of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If or when this happens several other problems can arise and opportunities for resolution or missed;
learning opportunities are missed as well. My OD specialists have actually been a group of capable
individuals; ranging across a wide spectrum from parents and spiritual leaders to managers and
friends. My Pastor was one of the persons that influenced me to change my perspective on obtaining
my degree. This is a specific goal that may seem minuscule in the grand scheme of things but it relates
to organizational development through large segmented change. Changing my perspective of being
able to achieve the goal and the after effects of what this goal means to my professional life are both
large scale. While having the skills to identify the issues and the problems is essential; I must also
have the skills to determine the opportunities. Opportunities to use organizational development can
easily be overlooked because most opportunities are deemed to be something positive. And because
the need for organizational development maybe viewed as negative, I may overlook the fact that it s
needed. An opportunity to improve performance is a great way to learn and a great way to develop
long lasting practices that will assist throughout life. Seizing the moments where there is an
opportunity for betterment will build my skills in the area of problem solving. Being a good problem
solver will certainly assist with success in life

He Was White, I Was Black Essay
Although I can articulate it better now, I knew when I was ten years old why Carrot Wilkins and I
would not always be as close as we were then. He was white, and I was black. I lived on the outskirts
of Winston Salem, North Carolina in a predominately black neighborhood. Carrot lived about a fifteen
minutes walk away in a largely white rural town called Walkertown. We met in the third grade on a
school bus that took us both to Thomas Cash Elementary School. Being country boys at heart, we
shared a lot of interests. We fished together a lot hunted squirrels, and played Robin Hood in the
woods that separated our neighborhoods. But like kittens and puppies, we were being raised with very
different perspectives of the world. And we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They were smart, strong, handsome, and noble. And, until this incident, imagining that I was one of
them had given me the feeling that I could do just about anything.
I did come up with an answer to Carrot s Aqua Man. I decided I would be Magic Johnson. This, of
course, met with immediate protest because Magic Johnson was not a superhero. Carrot demanded
that I choose a real superhero. I decided I didn t want to play the game anymore, that I would never
play the game again. We both went home, angry. Carrot didn t understand why, after I had played the
game dozens of times with no problem, I had decided that I would never play again. And neither one
of us understood why the people who created the superheroes made them all white. The only thing I
knew was that Carrot would be able to continue pretending he was a superhero, but I never could
again.
Today, I am able to articulate the difference I perceived between myself and Carrot. That difference
was based on the luxury of unlimited aspirations. This luxury allows a white child in America to
believe that this is his land. And in his land he is taught that limitations are set only by his own work
ethic. If he gives life his best shot, the system that distributes the spoils of life will reward him. This is
called the American Dream.
Black children are allowed the luxury of unlimited aspirations for a brief period in

The Role Of Heroes In The Odyssey
What Makes a Hero?
What makes a Hero? We all have potential, potential to become firefighters, surgeons, accountants, or
anything we set our mind to. At times in life, some of this potential appears or disappears from events
or conflict. Heroes are born and destroyed in conflict. The Odyssey has many heroes and antagonists.
Some characters are great heroic men and women that can conquer any obstacle in their way.
Odysseus, Telemachus, Athena, and so many others are described as Heros in The Odyssey. But what
about the other characters suffering? Are they Heros? Penelope is a hero that does not appear to be
heroic. She uses her wits and cunning to enact plans and schemes to keep the suitors at bay. Like
Odysseus, she also follows the hero s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This means that everything happening to her and the journey she is going through is happening

leaves for Troy. She must begin to make it on her own until Odysseus gets back. Her mentor is
Athena, goddess of wisdom, but she doesn t know it. Athena watches over her and nudges her in the
right direction all the time. An example of this was when The goddess Athena with her blazing eyes

Lines 1 3) Her first threshold takes place when the suitors begin to eat her food and demand for a hand
in marriage. This happens years after Odysseus left. People begin to believe he is dead and step
forward to take his place. The arrival of the suitors is also the first test of the friends and enemies, or
the maids and the suitors. Some of her maids stay loyal, and some leave with the suitors. Soon she
enters the belly of the whale or the lowest point of her journey, this was when Telemachus left for
Troy. She is now all alone as far as family goes, but when Telemachus comes back she is rebirthed,
and she finds her elixir. In this case, her elixir is the hope of Odysseus return. In The Odyssey,
Penelope is said to be a very smart person. The story even says discreet Penelope (The Odyssey book

Memorable Scene Of Invictus
Invictus Film review.
If you are interested in history, drama, sport or all three combined, then this film is for you. Invictus,
directed by Clint Eastwood, is a legendary sports biographical drama. Eastwood created the film with
an intention of trying to show the power of sport and how rugby alone managed to unite the mighty
nation of South Africa. The story of how the power of the sport alone was able to do this during the
country s terrible post apartheid era is shown in this potential tearjerker. This included the high tension
between civilians, which was due to racial discrimination and had been present for the previous 50
years as well. The inspirational Morgan Freeman plays the film s leading character, Nelson Mandela,
who is the first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Clint Eastwood, the director, continued to display the relevance of the issue throughout the film. He
allowed the viewer to understand the situation in more depth, and also encouraged them to realise the
huge effect racism had within one country alone. The audience is also shown the amazing person
Mandela was, and Eastwood tries to inspire the viewers as well, by showing his sincere and
unforgettable personality. Invictus is a film definitely worth viewing, with the cast staying very true to
their roles, with the combined truth of the script. Nelson Mandela s leadership is a huge part of the
films message, along with the power of sport, and the film sends a strong and inspirational message

Song Analysis Of ILl Be Missing You
I ll Be Missing You I ll Be Missing You is a rap ballad by Puff Daddy and Faith Evans featuring R B
group 112. This song was written in memory of renowned rap artist Christopher Wallace who many
may also know him as Biggie Smalls, Big papa, or The Notorious B.I.G. He was gunned down and
murdered in Los Angles in March of 1997. Almost immediately following his death, Puff Daddy and
Wallace s widowed wife, Faith Evans, team up to say their farewells. What started out as a tribute to
Wallace, ended up having a much bigger impact on the world than expected. On March 9, 1997,
Christopher Wallace s life was cut short at the age of twenty four in a drive by shooting in Los Angles.
Wallace was a close friend to Puff Daddy and husband to Faith Evans. Distraught by Wallace s death,
they wanted to perform a song in memory of him and also to help gain closure for their selves. Within
the past decade, Hip Hop has become increasingly sought after both in popular music and in a genre of
its own. When Puff Daddy released the song it went above both the genres of rock and hip hop. The
song, I ll Be Missing You , features leading vocals from Wallace s widowed wife, Faith Evans, and
background vocals from the famous R B group, 112. Wallace and Evans did not write the song, I ll Be
Missing You was actually written by multiple people. He took the lyrics from a Brooklyn rapper Todd
Sauce Money Gaither. Todd Gaither did receive a Grammy award in 1997 for his lyrics. The chorus

Anne Frank Remembered By Miep Gies Analysis
In the book Anne Frank Remembered By Miep Gies, the theme is thought. Thought is used throughout
the book when Miep thinks about Jewish men and women in the war, is constantly selfless, and she
thinks very wisely. Miep definitely thinks a lot throughout the book. For instance, Miep thinks about
all the Jewish men, women, and children. Miep feels horrible that all the people have to suffer. Miep
herself helps her own bunch of Jews survive. My head churned with the contradictory bit of
information. I dreaded to think about the unpleasant rumors circulating, rumors of harsh treatment
being doled out by the Germans to their helpless prisoners in these remote camps ( #107). This
definitely shows that Miep is feeling bad and thinking about

The Stereotypes Of Homosexuality In Film
While many believe that homosexuality has only been seen in mainstream media for only a few
decades, it has actually been with America cinema since the early 1920 s. The portrayal of
homosexuality in film and TV has come a very long way since the 1920 s. What viewers see on TV
about homosexuality is really just a representation of America s changing public view on the subject.
While we have come to accept the topic of homosexuality in American society more willingly, we
have substituted much of our prejudice about gays with the stereotypes that we see on TV constantly.
Because as a society we are constantly forced to see these stereotypes, we are being halted in our
progression to accept all different kinds of lifestyles. When film was ... Show more content on

In the early fifties, lesbians were also being attacked by the film industry, portraying them as
bulldykes and troublesome neurotics. While the Hollywood was struggling to make topic of
homosexuality in films more suitable for audiences, the film Victim made its debut in the United
Kingdom. This was the first film to star a homosexual character that stands up to fight against the
oppression of homosexuals. While this was the first time in history that a film portrayed a gay
character in a non demeaning way, this would lead to the stereotype of sympathetic gay characters in
film. One film that I would like to note that is a great example from the 90 s would be the film
Philadelphia, starring Tom Hanks as a gay AIDS victim that was fired because of his sexuality and
disease. Hollywood targets Hanks character and makes him into a tragic figure. His character dies at
the end of the film. In an interview with Jan Oxenberg, she points out that even though Tom Hanks
film was very effective, it is just a story about a gay hero who dies, who s a tragic figure and that it
seems as if Hollywood and the film industry will never have a film in which the gay main character
lives to see another day (Epstein). Another more recent film that demonstrates this sort of sympathetic
gay character would be

Joseph Stalin Influence On Russia
Russia is one of the most powerful countries that we have yet seen in the world today. Russia s
culture, language, land, and traditions have been around since the beginning of times and are still used
to this day. The history of Russia, ethnic groups, cultures and lifestyles, economy, climate, and current
Russia are just a few of the most important essentials to know about Russia.
The early history of Russia is of migrating people and ancient kingdoms. Early Russia was not
actually Russia , it was more of a collection of cities that gradually colonized into an empire.

Europe. Russia was once Rus and that began in the pre 9th century. The early ... Show more content

John Adams And The Ethics Behind The Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre was an incident that took place on March 5, 1770 where the British Army killed
five male civilians as well as injuring six others. The use of propaganda at the time led by patriots
spurred hostility towards the British authority. The result of the hatred was great tension among the
public as well as the death of some of the participants. Following the alarming incidence, Thomas
Hutchinson, the acting governor committed himself to undertaking an inquiry, which reformed on the
following day and the troops withdrew to Castle Island . The soldiers and the civilians arrested there
in were arrested and charged with murder. Consequently, John Adams, a defense lawyer defended
them and they were acquitted. Thus, this paper focuses on the investigative role of John Adams and
the ethics behind the Boston Massacre. Following the incident, Thomas Hutchinson started the
investigation process, which led to the arrest of eight soldiers and four civilians. In the investigations,
the arrested soldiers and four civilians were allegedly involved in the exchange fire and were
consequently charged with murder. These soldiers included Hugh White, William Wemms, William
McCauley, Matthew Killroy, John Carrol, James Hartgen, Hugh Montogomery, and William Warren.
Their case was brought before Justices Benjamin Lynde, Peter Oliver, Edund Troweridge, and John
Cushing. The government was committed to giving the soldiers a fair trial to eliminate the grounds for
retaliation from

Common Misconceptions on the Word Anime
It has always baffled me when I tell someone I love anime and they say they do not like it. They
sometimes say I hate all anime saying that they never could get into that genre. This is a statement that
gets my geek fathers rattled because anime is not a genre; it is an entire medium and whole form of
entertainment. It is a confusing statement to say because to me that is like saying you hate all movies
or TV shows. To traditional Americans who do not know a lot about anime, it tends to have a stigma
attached to it. Hence is why I decided to write about it as a social deviance. When you talk to someone
who has never experienced anime before, you tend to get some weird looks. A common misconception
is that all anime is pornography; they think all anime has tentacle monsters waiting for that busty girl
to pick up and rape. This misconception very much alienates people away from anime. It is true there
is a genre that is pornographic called hentai and is specifically targeted at adults. Hentai is its own
genre and most anime shows do not come close to that line. Most people confuse hentai with shows
that proved what is called fan service. Fan service is a term coined from anime and manga fandom for
material in a series, which is deliberately added to please the audience. Fan service can be in both
manga and anime and can include racy, erotic, or sexual content such as nudity, up skirt glimpse of a

South Afric A Long And Bloody History
Where the warm waters of the Indian Ocean meet the subtropical shoreline of South Africa s eastern
coast lies the Dhlinza Forest. Under the cool shade of the arching canopy, the stillness and stifling
silence imparts a feeling of serenity: even its name alludes to this, meaning place of grave meditation
in the Zulu language. Despite this apparent lifelessness, it is considered one of the greatest examples
of unique biodiversity in all of southern Africa. Within the towering trees, under crackling leaf beds
and between the broken boulders live hundreds of species of animal, including rare and endangered
birds, insects and reptiles. On the very edge of the Dhlinza forest lies the semi rural town of Eshowe,

He stretches; pushing the night time stiffness from his muscles, and takes a moment of reflection to
look around the bedroom he shares with his mother. The faded pastel wallpaper is peeling, revealing
the gritty whitewash that lies behind it. The single pane of glass in the window is covered in a network

the worn out knees. He pulls them on and brushes the most visible grime off his front. There is a
slightly misshapen ochre jug sitting by the door, filled with water the colour of river mud. His mother
must have drawn it from the well before heading out to her first job. He washes his face with the
brackish water, not certain if all he is doing is spreading the dirt around more evenly. Eventually
satisfied, he makes his way into the other room of the house, in search of breakfast. A hopeful

Rousseau s The Social Contract
Our world has many components both physical and nonphysical that make it what it is, we have
certain powerful ideas like religion, which are very important and give us faith and some ethics and
other essential ideas, but religion itself isn t followed by everyone and in fact there are several
religions that don t connect at all. Unlike religion, laws and those who enforce them are universally
followed and for the most part, respected. We have rules and laws for huge crimes like murder or
terrorism and once those crimes are committed, these who commit them are often punished fairly but
on the contrary we have small punishments for breaking little and irrelevant rules. In The Social
Contract written by eighteenth century philosopher Jean Jacques ... Show more content on

World War I Predicted as the War to End all Wars
With the end of Great War in 1918, the world struggled to form a structure of peace that would avoid
another world conflagration. It was anticipated that World War I would be the war to end all wars.
President Woodrow Wilson was the primary leader to achieve this goal with his 14 Points making and
keeping the peace in the world. Albeit the Treaty of Versailles amalgamated many of Wilson s points,
it struggled to be ratified in the Senate. The defeat of the Treaty of Versailles was largely due to the
Senate and popular opposition of the treaty.
Some might argue that President Wilson s actions and mindset was moderately to blame for the failure
of the Treaty of Versailles to persuade the Senate. After all, President Woodrow Wilson refused to take
any Republican Senators with him to the Paris Peace Conference. Additionally, President Wilson held
strong unwillingness to compromise during his whirlwind tour throughout the nation to gain support
for the treaty, until when he suffered a stroke and collapsed from the public view. However, these
mistakes of Wilson seem very miniscule when compared to the immense impact the opposition of the
public and the Senate had on the defeat of the Treaty of Versailles.
Still previous to his downfall, President Wilson s assertions that the Founding Father envisioned
America as the light of the world created to lead the world and protect rights of people and free
nations (Doc. F). On the other hand, this contradicts the American institution

The Importance Of Writing And Writing Skills In The...
The English language has turned into the world s most widely used language. It is the principal
language for global communications in various fields including trade, industry, legislative issues, and
training. This is the main motivation behind why a large number of learners throughout the world are
endeavoring to enhance their English language capability. A basic segment of this capability is
enhancing one s ability for writing since this ability is absolutely essential for employment in recent
years. One vital factor to consider with writing competency is spelling as one single incorrectly
spelled word can change a word or the purpose of the entire sentence. Moreover, the weakness in
spelling significantly affects writing and reading abilities. In other words, the orthographic or spelling
learning is the driving force for productive reading and proficient writing. Good spelling information
is also critical for recognizing the words, which can enormously improve or obstruct reading skill.
Concerning writing, poor spelling can make writing a troublesome task by too much attention to
spelling. Poor spelling likewise confines the writer s selection of words, which contrarily affects
innovativeness and prompts short and incoherent parts in writing (Baluch and Shahidi, 1991). As a
rule, writing skill development for ESL students is mainly affected by the words, for example, spelling
and word recognition that rely upon comparable skills, to be specific, orthographic and

The Four Noble Truths And The Noble Eightfold Path
The core principals of Buddhism can be found in The Four Noble Truths and The Noble Eightfold
Path. The Four Noble Truths are the truths about life. The first one is that in order to live, you re going
to suffer. Mind and body can inevitably become sick and lead to stress in life. Second noble truth is
that suffering stems from a cause; desire. They go hand in hand in an inverse relationship. If someone
desires to be private, they re constantly going to be worried about when they re not alone. This is so
prevalent that the pleasure they get from being alone is not worth the struggle of privacy. The third
noble truth is tied in by saying to end the suffering; a person must end all desires. Lastly, the fourth
noble truth describes the best ways to end suffering is to follow the eightfold path. To find inner peace,
someone must follow the eightfold path. In order to achieve this you must do all of these correctly:

But the more I think about it, the less shocked I am. The monks apart of the violence have motives
that are much more past religious belief. It s most likely a means of corruption to control the area
spiritually, and then in turn, politically. They could also be radical and suppressive because they are
doing whatever they can to prove that Buddhism is the master religion. A similar, but not as radical
example can be seen with senator Ted Cruz and other political figures. While they are very openly
Christian (another religion that is not too keen on the idea of violence) and support religious freedom,
when it comes to religions other than their own, their views change. This can be seen with supporting
armed protests outside mosques, or be open to carpet bombs in Syria. Both of these things are far from
the true religion, but the person is still seen as openly religious. When corruption occurs, people can
put selfish interests above what they were spiritually and morally taught to

Imperialism In Kamala Markandaya s Nectar In A Sieve
I will ask Kenny to help you. White men have power. is a quote from the book Nectar in a Sieve by
Kamala Markandaya. The story is set in India during urban development and is about the the marriage
between Rukmani, and a tenant farmer named Nathan. The novel is told in first person by Rukmani, it
starts from her arranged marriage to Nathan at a very young age to the death of him. Rukmani and
Nathan love each other very much and their marriage begins of to a great start until a large tannery is
built in the village near them, it slowly and slowly starts destroying their lives. As the tannery
increases in size, Rukmani and Nathan go through many struggles; such as being able to feed their
children and to pay of their rent. Around this time period, there was also a lot of imperialism
happening in Africa and some other countries like Asia. Britain and a couple other European countries
were trying to take over other countries land because they are more developed and have gone through
the industrial revolution so they are taking advantage of the land for its resources. Imperialism reflects
dominance rather than global progress due to the Europeans implementing tanneries in India and
influencing their economical, social, and political dynamics to wherever they traveled.
The Europeans had a big impact on lives of the indian people, such as using their country for their
land and their resources. The British came into India implementing their tanneries in small villages

Bluestone is used for hand axes and other tools similar. It is a fine grained ballast this makes it
stronger because the particles are all close together. The rock being fine grained means that it will
sustain any edges that it will eventually have for a long period of time. It can be flaked so that it can

Pros of having an effective online support group would be accessibility, being able to free from the
constraints of time and distance. Members could also feel free to join late and leave early when life s
circumstances needed them to do so. Participants could also gain clarity from writing their feelings
and self expressions down in order for others to read. Sufferers of rare conditions could meet over
long distances and share their trials and tribulations with each other. Drawbacks of possible internet
support groups would include the technology required to access such groups, slower responsiveness or
feedback to thoughts and emotions especially if those thoughts are of hurting one s self or others.
Inevitably the disinhibition that people sometimes feel leads to a toxic group environment and a lack
of empathy. Falseness also is a large issue to be addressed since there is no concrete evidence that
participants are who they claim they

Vote 16 Df
In our day and age, society is blossoming with many advancements in civilization. And yet, society is
also burdened with an equally frustrating amount of conflicts. From climate change to local soda
taxes, society has many dilemmas to be solved and agreed upon by the people. One such important
issue is voting. As America has experienced in its relatively brief history, voting has been an issue of
great importance and the cause of much turmoil, as voting is a right many believe to have been
granted unequally. The 15th Amendment for citizenship and people of color to vote, 19th Amendment
for women s suffrage, and a long period of social unrest eventually allowed all adult men and women

unrepresentative of the general public. As studies have proven, those who vote early on in their

Vote 16 SF is to help a select group of teens expand their expressions of democracy. Most 16 and 17
year olds are not only diligent, academically achieving students, but also hard working contributors to
their family income. As a student who has had three prior job experiences, I, too, know the struggles
of keeping up to work schedules while maintaining great grades. I, along with millions of kids around
the nation, also happen to know that a portion of the income we earn will be taxed and taken away
from us by the government to help benefit the rest of society. This deed is no different than what 18
year olds have to abide by, and yet, we mere 16 and 17 year old teenagers have our voting rights
stripped and denounced. Much like our founding fathers believed in, most 16 and 17 year olds believe
in the concept of no taxation without representation , a renown phrase that helped build this great

Promiscuity In Sula
Steve Maraboli wrote, Incredible change happens in your life when you decide to take control of what
you do have power over, instead of craving control over what you don t. While perceptions towards
female sexuality have become more and more liberal over time, they still tend towards an expediently
bigoted dynamic in which women are only encouraged to be sexual to an extent. The idea of women
being self confident, even single minded, in cultivating rousing sex lives is still often looked upon as
immoral and impure. In Toni Morrisson s novel Sula, not only is female sexuality lopsidedly
categorized, it is seen as worthy for castigation. Missing from the main conceptualization is the blunt
acknowledgement that female promiscuity can be empowering. A woman can derive power from her
sexuality. By realizing what she s been gifted with, she can gain her freedom. Sexual empowerment
for her involves recognition of her sexual being, embracing that power, and exhibiting it confidently
without fear of disrepute. By embracing the body she is born into, understanding the power it wields,
and displaying total command in making choices regarding her body, she holds the power to not be
castigated for craving and loving sex. Neither is she belittled with abusive words for not keeping her
body as a holy shrine, allowing only one man entry. A sexually assured woman, conscious of her own
desires, and confident in her allure can claim sex solely on her own terms.

Race And Race In Heart Of Darkness
Heart of Darkness is a text which was written during the apartheid era when white supremacy used to
colonise people of colour. It centres mostly around the protagonist Marlow who is on his journey to
Congo. Race is explained by (colin,2013), as a group of people who share similar physical
characteristics such as colour of skin and hair texture , who are considered as fitting in the same sort,
or the fact of belonging to such a group. Power can be explained as the ability to control other people.
In this essay I am going to discuss the relationship between race and power in Heart of Darkness.
Each individual has his/her own race. For example, in heart of darkness, there are Russians, Black
Africans and whites. Many people who fear the topic of race normally ignore the fact that there are
different races in life, instead they say there is only one race which is human race. Such topic are
mostly ignored yet they still have an impact in our daily life. Well, not every white supremacy used to
ignore the case of race even in the past. In (condrad 1902,3) white men see themselves as more
sophisticated and that they have urbanised minds and are educated. Whenever the race topic arises,
people of colour recall how bad they were treated because of their race. This ... Show more content on

Poisonwood Bible Symbolism
In Thomas Foster s book, How to Read Literature Like a Professor, it is written that there are five
aspects of a quest: the quester; a place to go; a stated reason to go there; challenges and trials en route;
a real reason to go there (Foster 3). In the book The Poisonwood Bible, the Price family were the
questers going to the Congo to bring Christianity to the villagers. During their stay at the Congo, they
faced hate, disease, violence, and even the death of Ruth May. Although the whole family was
attempting to bring Christianity to the villagers, Nathan Price s real goal was to baptize all the

The parrot was one of the symbols that were used. It represented the Republic of Congo, which like

According to Foster s criteria of a political work, The Poisonwood Bible certainly fits. It is political

villagers are standing strongly behind their traditions and power is being fought incessantly not only
through violence, but also with cunning deceit. Nathan Price s real goal for going to the Congo was to
baptize all the villagers in the area. This, however, was relentlessly being opposed by many villagers

Fossil Fuels In The US
Fossil fuels such as oil, coal, and natural gas provide the U.S. with over 80 percent of its energy
supply (McNerney Cheek, 2012). Fossil fuels, formed from organic materials over the course of many
centuries, have fueled the global and U.S. economic development for the past two centuries.
Nonetheless, fossil fuels are finite resources that cause irreversible harm to the environment. Scientists
consider them nonrenewable forms of energy since they take hundreds of years to form. According to
Rand (2010), fossil fuels were responsible for 79 percent of the greenhouse emissions in 2010. Poor
efficiency practices and higher energy demands have increased the usage of fossil fuels, and it is now

Energy efficiency has a variety of benefits: lowering cost on both household and economical levels,
reducing demand for energy imports, and fewer greenhouse emissions. Although renewable energy
technologies help to accomplish these objectives of reducing the utilization of fossil fuels, the
cheapest, and often most immediate, is improving energy efficiency. There are considerable
opportunities for improving the efficiency in almost all sectors of the economy, whether it is transport,
energy generation, buildings, or industry. Most typical cars consume fossil fuels. Choosing alternative
forms of transport other than running a personal car saves on the fossil fuel. Alternative forms of
transport in America include train, subway system, or bus. Moreover, taking public transport does not
only save on fossil fuels but it also allows one to concentrate on other things such as reading.
Additionally, the best way of being independent of fossil fuels is driving less. Bicycle riding or

What the media fails to accurately portray is that feminists strive to promote equality for both women
and men. Utilizing feminism as their secret weapon to add diversity to the overly male punk scene, the
riot grrrls managed to successfully promote women s rights with politically charged tunes that
empowered women to make a change.
However, despite of its fabricated intentions, the media proposed a valid argument against the
movement: why the movement did not last over the years. One often overlooked aspect of Riot grrrl
was that although it claimed to revive the feminist appeal by standing up for ALL women, the majority
of its efforts seemed to appeal more in favor of middle class Caucasian women. Members with a
variety of ethnic backgrounds who identified themselves as riot grrrls felt that that their adversities
and struggles as both minorities and women were not equally put into perspective as much as those of
their counterparts. This flaw within the movement has negatively affected its social longevity and
overall appeal to a wider range of women, yet the dedication to spread awareness on intimate struggles
and successful establishment of a community within the movement have proven to still be both
effective as well as inspiring in today s modern society. Without a doubt, the riot grrrl movement took

Dante s Inferno And The Balance Of Power Essay
In Dante s Inferno, Dante (the poet) targets the balance of power between the papacy and empire. The
imbalance between the two is at fault of the papacy, according to Dante, which is understood to be due
to the great refusal. With the great refusal, the papacy was able to fulfill its greed for power which
ultimately resulted in Dante s exile. However, unlike other poets and other influential individuals of
his time, specifically Thomas Aquinas, Dante took the next step to show how all these sins came
together to contribute to social disorder. Dante s divine comedy infiltrates the corruption in the church

Unlike Aquinas, for Dante the biggest things were the effect on the community and the infiltration of

Performance Management Issues
BUS681: Compensation and Benefits
October 24, 2011
Abstract
This research paper is based on the development and implementation of completely integrated
performance management system. The organizations are enjoying many benefits by implementing the
performance management system. It has helped in improving the productivity of employees in most of
the organizations. It is to be understood that apart from advantages, the system also carries some
disadvantages. It is time consuming and there are chances of biases entering into the system.

The performance management system helps the company in identifying the employees who are not
able to perform as per the expectations. Warnings can be given to these employees for improving their
performance. Even after that they are not able to improve their performance; these employees can be
terminated on the basis of performance. The organization keeps documentation about the performance
of an employee. The company documents the performance in HR s file. Employees in Organization
are motivated and they value the structure of the company, its development and plan for growth. A
motivated employee performs using full potential, which is good for both the organization and
employee.
Relationship between Performance Management and Compensation
Performance management system makes a clear link between the performance and compensation, and
allows the employees to understand the areas which need to be improved and directs them to
appropriate training opportunities to enable improvement in performance to take place. Joseph
Martocchio says, Work with line managers to design the performance appraisal plan which best fits
the specific duties and responsibilities of particular roles (Martocchio, 2011). Compensation and
reward decisions are likely to be arbitrary in the absence of a good performance management system.

Comparing The Australian And Indonesian Economy
Transcript: Comparison of the Australian and Indonesian economy
Australian living standards are higher than Indonesia s, this is a result of Australia maintaining higher
economic performance through superior economic indicators. Australia s economic indicators reflect a
mature and relatively stable economic growth with a population 1/10th of Indonesia s, in comparison,
Indonesia s economy reflects a growing developing economy. Indonesia s economic trends are
improving at a rapid rate and if this trend continues, Indonesia could have in the mid to long term

In Figure 2 it is evident that Indonesia s cost of living, as reflected by the CPI, has been significantly
deteriorating over the last 8 years. Although research argues that CPI may not be an effective indicator
of the cost of living for a developing country such as Indonesia (East Asia, 2015). In contrast
measuring the percentage of a household budget that goes to food is could be a good indicator. Since
2000, the percentage of household budget spent on food has declined, meaning higher expenditure on
discretionary goods and services. This indicates that Indonesia s urban regions are getting richer faster
than the impression expressed with the CPI (East Asia, 2015). This is also reflected in figure 1, as the
significant increase of mobile phone subscriptions is a good proxy of increased living standards as a
mobile phone is a discretionary living cost. This is a result of the Indonesian growth rate earning a
higher level of surplus income to spend on more luxury items.

Punishments follow actions. Sometimes they are not always fair or well deserved, but other times they
are essential to learn right from wrong. In our society, all crimes have punishments; however, the
punishment depends on the severity of the crime. In our culture, it is important to have consequences
following deplorable actions because if there is no discipline for poor decisions it would establish
these poor decisions to be acceptable. In every confrontation there are always two sides. In the epic,

excessive. For one thing, out of the one hundred and eight suitors total not even half of them
participated in shenanigans that kept reoccurring. Not all of them deserved to die. Many were
bystanders, but they still did not choose to leave after being warned. Antinous, the corrupt leader of
the suitors, was malicious, impolite, and disrespectful. He set the tone for the rest of the suitors and
many of the suitors followed his lead. Since they had a cruel, harsh leader the suitors also acted like
this. Lastly, the most extreme form of punishment is death. While suitors were begging for
forgiveness, Odysseus showed no mercy and slaughtered all of them. As stated above, there are many
reasons why a reader would pick either side of this argument.
Omen s are not meant to be taken lightly. Normally when one gives a warning it is best to believe

Human Nature Vs. Moral Logic Essay
With numerous wars, murders, and rapes it s normal to think that humans tend towards disorder. Even
at a young age, humans are selfish and think egocentrically. If they are lucky, they grow up to think
abstractly, only to use those thoughts to outsmart another human. However, human nature is
fundamentally good: if one was to strip a human of their social responsibilities and influences, they
would realize that a human is simple minded and morally good. They openly donate their time and
resources to care for their loved ones. It s only when societal beliefs interfere with moral logic does
one not care for their family members, justifying their reasoning with something like, I don t have
enough time to get my mom her medication. I have to go to work. To Zhu Xi, humans contain a basic
understanding of the principles or patterns of human nature. In that, they possess ethical/moral
principles that are naturally ingrained in them. Humans are morally good since they contain the
knowledge of what is right or wrong. For example, a human would shy away from killing a person,
since it s wrong to kill, and they would give their money to a poor man on the street, since that would
be the right thing to do. Zhu Xi sees these basic ethical principles as li. Li is the basis of human nature,
as it structures reality. It is the moral pattern, li, that influences our actions and thoughts, which helps
build our character. Qi is the basic building block of the world: the physical shape and

Brave New World And The Island
Imagine a perfect world where everything is controlled; your job, your everyday life, even your
thoughts. You would never have to think about anything ever again, but Aldous Huxley, the writer of
Brave New World and Michael Bay, the director of The Island, both attempt to depict the dangers of
this utopia . Although Brave New World and The Island both successfully communicate satire, Brave
New World is better at eliciting people to think and change.
In both Brave New World and The Island, one aspect that communicates satire is the lack of individual
thought. For example, in both, everyone in the community has predetermined jobs. In Huxley s novel,
everyone is assigned a job based on their caste level; in Bay s film, people automatically learn a job to
advance society after being cloned. This shows the degree of a government s control over the
population. The societies represented here closely resemble totalitarianism, [a] form of government
that subordinates all aspects of its citizens lives to the authority of the state, with a single charismatic
leader as the ultimate authority (Merriam Webster.com). Because nearly everything is designated to
people or enforced strictly, people do not think for themselves. Although this creates a stable society, it
also creates a mindless society. For example, on page 28, the Director of Hatchery and Conditioning
comments on listening to hypnopaedic phrases, saying,
they ll have that repeated forty or fifty times more before they

A Clinical Syndrome
Introduction
Sepsis is a clinical syndrome that arises from inflammatory response to infection. The response from
the host is associated with immune, hormonal, metabolic, bioenergetic and autonomic nervous system
modification. This is associated with an overall catabolic state, excessive adrenergic stimulation, high
catecholamine levels and myocardial depression. This effects are mainly mediated via
cathecholaminergic action and cytokine production (1). β blockers modulate both these pathways.
There are several studies that have shown the benefits of β blockers in sepsis. Animal studies have
shown benefits of β blockers (2,3,4,5). To date there is no published systematic review on the effect of
β blockers in sepsis. We sought to summarize ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No language or publication date restriction was imposed. Medline was searched from 1946 and
Embase from 1947. Bibliographies of all selected articles were searched. We also searched the grey
literature via the medical university database. Additional search was done on clinical trial database (7).
Study selection and Data Extraction
Two investigators (CJC SG) and the medical librarian (SP) independently reviewed the identified
abstracts. All potential relevant studies were obtained and critically appraised. We used the following
inclusion criteria 1) diagnosed sepsis or septic shock 2) on β blockers or treated with β blockers during
their ICU admission 3) adult population (age 18 or older). Exclusion criteria were 1) paediatric patient
s 2) animal studies 3) non septic patients. The eligible studies were heterogeneous and therefore did
not permit statistical pooling.
Data Extraction
We (CJC SG) independently reviewed the finalised articles to extract information on the following
characteristic. Year of publication, sample size, study population, heart rate control, mortality rate,
adverse incidence change in metabolic parameters with administration of β blockers. Individual
authors were contacted to clarify overlapping of patients between studies. Authors were also contacted
for data on subgroup analysis.

How Divorce Affects Child Development
The change in a family dynamic, such as a divorce, will have a huge impact on a child s development.
During childhood, divorce in a child s early life is one of the most stressful life events that can occur.
Although, all children are not affected, majority of children are more likely to become affected and
have a negative impact when it comes to their social and cognitive development. According to Velez et
al (2011), evidence shows that factors such as parental warmth, acceptance, support, family cohesion
and firm rule enforcement are positively associated with engagement efforts and negatively associated
with disengagement efforts (pp. 245). At a young age, if children are experienced with a change in
their family dynamic, this will lead

Pros And Cons Of Being A Mechanic
If you re a mechanic, I m sure I don t need to tell you that you are in one of the most high pressure
areas of the trades industry. I mean, tradespeople generally have pretty stressful jobs, but few have
more responsibility to their customers than a mechanic. When somebody leaves their car with you,
they are not just trusting you with their automobile. They re trusting you with their ability to get to
work and their freedom to see the world. Without their car, they may lose their livelihood, miss their
kid s soccer games, and be forced to rely on often late, always grimey public transportation. Because
your customers depend so much on their cars to lead a successful life, you owe it to them to use only
the finest tools while on the job. You ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Coding Graphic Design
Is Coding Important in Graphic Design? Despite what some new graphic designers say, coding is still

High School Dropouts In The United States
Many policy makers in the United States have becomes especially concerned about the alarming rate
of persistently high school student s dropout rates. But, improving high school dropout and graduation
levels continues to be a strong educational challenge in the United States. Because, every year almost
half a million students drop out of school (U.S. Census Bureau 2007). More importantly as Rumberger
claimed that an even greater number about one third of all students who enter high school in the ninth
grade fail to graduate fours later (as cited in Robert Russell 109). Graduation rates among
underrepresented minority students in particular Latinos and African American are even lower
(Alliance for Excellent Education 2007). And as Kelly

The Global Issue Of Overpopulation
Since the early twentieth century, the world s population has exploded copiously.. This phenomenon
known as overpopulation has been called a threat to humanity, and people all across the world are
affected by it. There is inadequate housing to shelter the population, not enough resources for the
population to continually utilize, pollution, habitat loss, and much more. Politicians and scientists
alike are striving to solve this problem.: In evaluating the global issue of overpopulation, one can
determine the solution to it through limiting children by creating a law, implementing the policy, and
appropriately enforcing the limit. To begin to steady out the superfluous population, one must

There should be worldwide taxes imposed on items such as diapers and baby wipes in rich countries,
and the money collected from the taxes will be wired to the UN and WHO. Anyway, there is evidence
that a limit like this works. The birth rate in China has fallen since 1979, and the rate of population
growth is now 0.7 per cent. ( Managing Population Change ). That is a great statistic considering that
it was 1.9 percent in 1950. On the other hand, the limit should be set to two or three for poor,
underpopulated countries because decreasing an overpopulated nation s population would cripple it
financially and socially. Creating a childbirth limit similar to that of China and revising it is the first
step to controlling the population. After a plan is engendered, it must be implemented worldwide. The
UN will make it an international law that is imperative and obligatory to follow, and each nation s
government will do their part in imposing it upon their citizens. The UN will observe each nation s
population and then implement a limit that is reasonable with the population, so that poor,
underpopulated countries will not be destroyed, but one with gargantuan populations will have a
logical limit set. Every nation with over two hundred fifty million people or one hundred fifty million
people and an annual population increase of 1.5 percent or more will need to implement a one child
policy. Nations with fifty million up to one hundred fifty million

Historical Fiction And Its Importance On Society
Thesis Statement
We all understand the creative element that is in all fictional movies, including movies about historical
figures and events. Historical fiction is one of the most popular film genres. The general assumption is
that it helps people remember and understand history, giving us facts with some creative liberties. In
truth, it is changing the way we see history and thus changing our traditions and our culture. The paper
that follows should
· Explain the reasoning behind creating a historical fictional movie
· Explaining the importance of historical accuracy in fictional films
· Explaining the importance of these films on society
· Explain the negative impact that inaccurate historical films have on society
Historical Fiction and its Importance on Society
We constantly see portrayals of historical events and figures across all forms of entertainment,
whether it be a book, theatre or feature film. We are constantly bombarded with tales of dictators,
gladiators, great wars, lone survivors, myths and legends. We are constantly offered historical fiction
because we enjoy it. We like to see subjects that bored us in the classroom suddenly come to life and
entertain us on the big screen. We like to put a face to the legends that we have read about in literature.
It is something that we as a society use to break away from reality for a moment. The medium of film
has the ability to manipulate these stories to fit the entertainment and

Success Through Organizational Development Essay Success through Organizational Development BUS 370: Organizational Development Heather Strouse June 27, 2011 Success through Organizational Development Organizational development is a learning tool that can be utilized not only for professional success but for personal success in life as well. This particular tool or resources deals directly with change and who to best deal with the changes in order to produce a good outcome for all involved. If or when this happens several other problems can arise and opportunities for resolution or missed; learning opportunities are missed as well. My OD specialists have actually been a group of capable individuals; ranging across a wide spectrum from parents and spiritual leaders to managers and friends. My Pastor was one of the persons that influenced me to change my perspective on obtaining my degree. This is a specific goal that may seem minuscule in the grand scheme of things but it relates to organizational development through large segmented change. Changing my perspective of being able to achieve the goal and the after effects of what this goal means to my professional life are both large scale. While having the skills to identify the issues and the problems is essential; I must also have the skills to determine the opportunities. Opportunities to use organizational development can easily be overlooked because most opportunities are deemed to be something positive. And because the need for organizational development maybe viewed as negative, I may overlook the fact that it s needed. An opportunity to improve performance is a great way to learn and a great way to develop long lasting practices that will assist throughout life. Seizing the moments where there is an opportunity for betterment will build my skills in the area of problem solving. Being a good problem solver will certainly assist with success in life ... He was white, and I was black. I lived on the outskirts of Winston Salem, North Carolina in a predominately black neighborhood. Carrot lived about a fifteen minutes walk away in a largely white rural town called Walkertown. We met in the third grade on a school bus that took us both to Thomas Cash Elementary School. Being country boys at heart, we shared a lot of interests. We fished together a lot hunted squirrels, and played Robin Hood in the woods that separated our neighborhoods. I decided I would be Magic Johnson. This, of course, met with immediate protest because Magic Johnson was not a superhero. Carrot demanded that I choose a real superhero. I decided I didn t want to play the game anymore, that I would never play the game again. We both went home, angry. Carrot didn t understand why, after I had played the game dozens of times with no problem, I had decided that I would never play again. And neither one of us understood why the people who created the superheroes made them all white. The only thing I knew was that Carrot would be able to continue pretending he was a superhero, but I never could again. Today, I am able to articulate the difference I perceived between myself and Carrot. That difference was based on the luxury of unlimited aspirations. This luxury allows a white child in America to believe that this is his land. And in his land he is taught that limitations are set only by his own work ethic. If he gives life his best shot, the system that distributes the spoils of life will reward him. This is called the American Dream. On March 9, 1997, Christopher Wallace s life was cut short at the age of twenty four in a drive by shooting in Los Angles. Wallace was a close friend to Puff Daddy and husband to Faith Evans. Distraught by Wallace s death, they wanted to perform a song in memory of him and also to help gain closure for their selves. Within the past decade, Hip Hop has become increasingly sought after both in popular music and in a genre of its own. When Puff Daddy released the song it went above both the genres of rock and hip hop. The song, I ll Be Missing You , features leading vocals from Wallace s widowed wife, Faith Evans, and background vocals from the famous R B group, 112. Wallace and Evans did not write the song, I ll Be Missing You was actually written by multiple people. He took the lyrics from a Brooklyn rapper Todd Sauce Money Gaither. Thought is used throughout the book when Miep thinks about Jewish men and women in the war, is constantly selfless, and she thinks very wisely. Miep definitely thinks a lot throughout the book. For instance, Miep thinks about all the Jewish men, women, and children. Miep feels horrible that all the people have to suffer. Miep herself helps her own bunch of Jews survive. My head churned with the contradictory bit of information. I dreaded to think about the unpleasant rumors circulating, rumors of harsh treatment being doled out by the Germans to their helpless prisoners in these remote camps ( #107). The Stereotypes Of Homosexuality In Film While many believe that homosexuality has only been seen in mainstream media for only a few decades, it has actually been with America cinema since the early 1920 s. The portrayal of homosexuality in film and TV has come a very long way since the 1920 s. What viewers see on TV about homosexuality is really just a representation of America s changing public view on the subject. While we have come to accept the topic of homosexuality in American society more willingly, we have substituted much of our prejudice about gays with the stereotypes that we see on TV constantly. Because as a society we are constantly forced to see these stereotypes, we are being halted in our progression to accept all different kinds of lifestyles. When film was ... While the Hollywood was struggling to make topic of homosexuality in films more suitable for audiences, the film Victim made its debut in the United Kingdom. This was the first film to star a homosexual character that stands up to fight against the oppression of homosexuals. While this was the first time in history that a film portrayed a gay character in a non demeaning way, this would lead to the stereotype of sympathetic gay characters in film. One film that I would like to note that is a great example from the 90 s would be the film Philadelphia, starring Tom Hanks as a gay AIDS victim that was fired because of his sexuality and disease. Hollywood targets Hanks character and makes him into a tragic figure. His character dies at the end of the film. In an interview with Jan Oxenberg, she points out that even though Tom Hanks film was very effective, it is just a story about a gay hero who dies, who s a tragic figure and that it seems as if Hollywood and the film industry will never have a film in which the gay main character lives to see another day (Epstein). John Adams And The Ethics Behind The Boston Massacre The Boston Massacre was an incident that took place on March 5, 1770 where the British Army killed five male civilians as well as injuring six others. The use of propaganda at the time led by patriots spurred hostility towards the British authority. The result of the hatred was great tension among the public as well as the death of some of the participants. Following the alarming incidence, Thomas Hutchinson, the acting governor committed himself to undertaking an inquiry, which reformed on the following day and the troops withdrew to Castle Island . • 11. Common Misconceptions on the Word Anime It has always baffled me when I tell someone I love anime and they say they do not like it. They sometimes say I hate all anime saying that they never could get into that genre. This is a statement that gets my geek fathers rattled because anime is not a genre; it is an entire medium and whole form of entertainment. It is a confusing statement to say because to me that is like saying you hate all movies or TV shows. To traditional Americans who do not know a lot about anime, it tends to have a stigma attached to it. Hence is why I decided to write about it as a social deviance. When you talk to someone who has never experienced anime before, you tend to get some weird looks. A common misconception is that all anime is pornography; they think all anime has tentacle monsters waiting for that busty girl to pick up and rape. This misconception very much alienates people away from anime. It is true there is a genre that is pornographic called hentai and is specifically targeted at adults. Hentai is its own genre and most anime shows do not come close to that line. Most people confuse hentai with shows that proved what is called fan service. Fan service is a term coined from anime and manga fandom for material in a series, which is deliberately added to please the audience. Fan service can be in both manga and anime and can include racy, erotic, or sexual content such as nudity, up skirt glimpse of a characters underwear, shower scenes, characters wearing bathing suits, or ... It was anticipated that World War I would be the war to end all wars. President Woodrow Wilson was the primary leader to achieve this goal with his 14 Points making and keeping the peace in the world. Albeit the Treaty of Versailles amalgamated many of Wilson s points, it struggled to be ratified in the Senate. The defeat of the Treaty of Versailles was largely due to the Senate and popular opposition of the treaty. Some might argue that President Wilson s actions and mindset was moderately to blame for the failure of the Treaty of Versailles to persuade the Senate. After all, President Woodrow Wilson refused to take any Republican Senators with him to the Paris Peace Conference. Additionally, President Wilson held strong unwillingness to compromise during his whirlwind tour throughout the nation to gain support for the treaty, until when he suffered a stroke and collapsed from the public view. However, these mistakes of Wilson seem very miniscule when compared to the immense impact the opposition of the public and the Senate had on the defeat of the Treaty of Versailles. • 15. The Importance Of Writing And Writing Skills In The... The English language has turned into the world s most widely used language. It is the principal language for global communications in various fields including trade, industry, legislative issues, and training. This is the main motivation behind why a large number of learners throughout the world are endeavoring to enhance their English language capability. A basic segment of this capability is enhancing one s ability for writing since this ability is absolutely essential for employment in recent years. One vital factor to consider with writing competency is spelling as one single incorrectly spelled word can change a word or the purpose of the entire sentence. Moreover, the weakness in spelling significantly affects writing and reading abilities. In other words, the orthographic or spelling learning is the driving force for productive reading and proficient writing. Good spelling information is also critical for recognizing the words, which can enormously improve or obstruct reading skill. Concerning writing, poor spelling can make writing a troublesome task by too much attention to spelling. Poor spelling likewise confines the writer s selection of words, which contrarily affects innovativeness and prompts short and incoherent parts in writing (Baluch and Shahidi, 1991). As a rule, writing skill development for ESL students is mainly affected by the words, for example, spelling and word recognition that rely upon comparable skills, to be specific, orthographic and ... The Four Noble Truths are the truths about life. The first one is that in order to live, you re going to suffer. Mind and body can inevitably become sick and lead to stress in life. Second noble truth is that suffering stems from a cause; desire. They go hand in hand in an inverse relationship. If someone desires to be private, they re constantly going to be worried about when they re not alone. This is so prevalent that the pleasure they get from being alone is not worth the struggle of privacy. The third noble truth is tied in by saying to end the suffering; a person must end all desires. Promiscuity In Sula Steve Maraboli wrote, Incredible change happens in your life when you decide to take control of what you do have power over, instead of craving control over what you don t. While perceptions towards female sexuality have become more and more liberal over time, they still tend towards an expediently bigoted dynamic in which women are only encouraged to be sexual to an extent. The idea of women being self confident, even single minded, in cultivating rousing sex lives is still often looked upon as immoral and impure. In Toni Morrisson s novel Sula, not only is female sexuality lopsidedly categorized, it is seen as worthy for castigation. Missing from the main conceptualization is the blunt acknowledgement that female promiscuity can be empowering. A woman can derive power from her sexuality. By realizing what she s been gifted with, she can gain her freedom. Sexual empowerment for her involves recognition of her sexual being, embracing that power, and exhibiting it confidently without fear of disrepute. By embracing the body she is born into, understanding the power it wields, and displaying total command in making choices regarding her body, she holds the power to not be castigated for craving and loving sex. Neither is she belittled with abusive words for not keeping her body as a holy shrine, allowing only one man entry. Fossil fuels, formed from organic materials over the course of many centuries, have fueled the global and U.S. economic development for the past two centuries. Nonetheless, fossil fuels are finite resources that cause irreversible harm to the environment. Scientists consider them nonrenewable forms of energy since they take hundreds of years to form. What the media fails to accurately portray is that feminists strive to promote equality for both women and men. Utilizing feminism as their secret weapon to add diversity to the overly male punk scene, the riot grrrls managed to successfully promote women s rights with politically charged tunes that empowered women to make a change. However, despite of its fabricated intentions, the media proposed a valid argument against the movement: why the movement did not last over the years. One often overlooked aspect of Riot grrrl was that although it claimed to revive the feminist appeal by standing up for ALL women, the majority of its efforts seemed to appeal more in favor of middle class Caucasian women. Members with a variety of ethnic backgrounds who identified themselves as riot grrrls felt that that their adversities and struggles as both minorities and women were not equally put into perspective as much as those of their counterparts. This flaw within the movement has negatively affected its social longevity and overall appeal to a wider range of women, yet the dedication to spread awareness on intimate struggles and successful establishment of a community within the movement have proven to still be both effective as well as inspiring in today s modern society. The imbalance between the two is at fault of the papacy, according to Dante, which is understood to be due to the great refusal. With the great refusal, the papacy was able to fulfill its greed for power which ultimately resulted in Dante s exile. However, unlike other poets and other influential individuals of his time, specifically Thomas Aquinas, Dante took the next step to show how all these sins came together to contribute to social disorder. In contrast measuring the percentage of a household budget that goes to food is could be a good indicator. Since 2000, the percentage of household budget spent on food has declined, meaning higher expenditure on discretionary goods and services. This indicates that Indonesia s urban regions are getting richer faster than the impression expressed with the CPI (East Asia, 2015). • 36. Human Nature Vs. Moral Logic Essay With numerous wars, murders, and rapes it s normal to think that humans tend towards disorder. Even at a young age, humans are selfish and think egocentrically. If they are lucky, they grow up to think abstractly, only to use those thoughts to outsmart another human. However, human nature is fundamentally good: if one was to strip a human of their social responsibilities and influences, they would realize that a human is simple minded and morally good. They openly donate their time and resources to care for their loved ones. It s only when societal beliefs interfere with moral logic does one not care for their family members, justifying their reasoning with something like, I don t have enough time to get my mom her medication. I have to go to work. To Zhu Xi, humans contain a basic understanding of the principles or patterns of human nature. In that, they possess ethical/moral principles that are naturally ingrained in them. Humans are morally good since they contain the knowledge of what is right or wrong. For example, a human would shy away from killing a person, since it s wrong to kill, and they would give their money to a poor man on the street, since that would be the right thing to do. Zhu Xi sees these basic ethical principles as li. Li is the basis of human nature, as it structures reality. You would never have to think about anything ever again, but Aldous Huxley, the writer of Brave New World and Michael Bay, the director of The Island, both attempt to depict the dangers of this utopia . Although Brave New World and The Island both successfully communicate satire, Brave New World is better at eliciting people to think and change. In both Brave New World and The Island, one aspect that communicates satire is the lack of individual thought. For example, in both, everyone in the community has predetermined jobs. In Huxley s novel, everyone is assigned a job based on their caste level; in Bay s film, people automatically learn a job to advance society after being cloned. This shows the degree of a government s control over the population. The societies represented here closely resemble totalitarianism, [a] form of government that subordinates all aspects of its citizens lives to the authority of the state, with a single charismatic leader as the ultimate authority (Merriam Webster.com). Because nearly everything is designated to people or enforced strictly, people do not think for themselves. Although this creates a stable society, it also creates a mindless society.
