Virtue Ethics Vs. Sentimentalist Virtue
Virtue Ethics vs. Sentimentalist Virtue Ethics Virtue Ethics is defined as any character based approach to
normative ethics that emphasizes some conception virtues and vices; often including a universal
conception of human flourishing (Blakley, Christopher). Aristotle and David Hume developed accounts
of ethics that remained true to their own empirical philosophies; both of which stray away from the more
traditional accounts. Their opposing theories contain the overall theme of how a virtuous person would
live their life. In contrast, David Hue developed his own account of sentimentalist virtue ethics that
challenges, or pushes back on, the virtue ethics Aristotle. According to Aristotle, we should be virtuous
people, and therefore perform virtuous acts. Instead of talking about particular actions and the rules
according to which they are undertaken, then, Aristotle requires us to look at virtues, or qualities of
character. Aristotle s teachings emphasize more on character traits rather than rules or obligations. Moral
agency is not merely a matter of which rules to follow, but a whole way of life. It requires a unity of
thought and feeling, which is characteristic of what Aristotle, called virtue (Boetzkes and Waluchow, p.
23). What is a virtue, and what is the virtuous life? Aristotle s definition is cited as a state of character
concerned with choice, lying in a mean, i.e., the mean relative to us, this being determined by rational
principle, that principle by

British Imperial Influence
The empires of both the British and the Japanese through their expansion tactics allowed them to shape
certain aspects of other cultures during their growth. The British Empire, with its influence and the
power to control, during its greatest time was one of the largest empires to ever cover the world. The
Japanese Empire while not as powerful and vast as the British Empire was able to use the change of its
government to begin its own conquests.
While the British Empire had many positive things it provided to those under its control it like any other
empire in history it did have its own fair share of negative impact on those cultures they maintained, the
Japanese were in the same situation. A negative aspect of their growth with the use ... Show more content

A modernized Japan seeing the interest that the Chinese had with Korea saw the potential of this area
and the economical importance of having this territory. This is what began the war as China didn t want
to lose their control over Korea which it eventually did in their losing the war. Japan fought a war against
China in 1894 95 over the control of Korea and gained Taiwan, Japan s first colony. In 1902, Japan
signed an alliance with Great Britain, which signified a dramatic increase in international status and in
1904 5, Japan won a war against Russia, one of the major Western powers. In the process Japan
expanded its empire, annexing Korea . The Sino Japanese war was their first foray into a major conflict
of war and their success followed them, with a conflict with Russia and again success; Japan was now on
its way to show the world it was a power to reckon with. The growth of Japan for much needed resources
was one of the factors into their expansion plans, as an island nation they had limited capabilities and
less land to accommodate any growth of resources, so they had go use the military to gain what they

My Favorite Place At The World Is The State Of Oregon
Oregon
My favorite place in the world is the state of Oregon. The reason for this being my favorite place is
because of how green and simply beautiful this place is. I have had the fortune of getting to visit this
state twice. I even took a train ride home from Washington through Oregon down to California. I must
add the scenery is seriously beautiful. I have never seen so many trees in my life. The name Oregon
means windstorm or hurricane. The reason they gave it this name is because of the powerful chinook
winds of the Columbia River that blows through this state. I also wanted to do this place because they
are known for their cheese and ice cream from the Tillamook brand. They also have a lot of wild berries
growing and have about 80 national parks you can visit. In Cannon Beach there is the famous Haystack
rock. Haystack rock is 235 ft tall and is home to wildlife. It also has made great tidepools full of marine
life. Crater lake happens to be the deepest lake in the United States and the second deepest in all of North
America. It also ranks number 9 in the world. The way this massively deep lake was formed was due to
the collapse of a volcano ,known as Mount Mazama. Its max depth is 1.949ft. Oregon consists of 6
different areas. The coast, Klamath mountains , Willamette lowlands,Cascade Mountains, Columbia
Plateau , and the basin and range region. The Pacific shoreline of Oregon is bordered by narrow coastal
plains of sandy beaches, luxuriant

Annotated Bibliography On Database Encryption
1. INTRODUCTION Database Encryption is one of the technique used for securing the data in database.
This method transforms information on a computer in such a way that it becomes unreadable. So, even if
someone is able to gain access to a computer with personal data on it, they likely won t be able to do
anything with the data unless they have original data key, complicated or expensive software. The main
function of encryption is essentially to translate normal text into cipher text. Encryption makes sure that
data doesn t get read by the wrong people, but can also ensure that data isn t altered in transit, and verify
the identity of the sender. Data Encryption method typically uses a specified parameter or key to perform
the data transformation. Some encryption algorithms require the key to be the same length as the
message to be encoded, yet other encryption algorithms can operate on much smaller keys relative to the
message. Encryption is most used among transactions over insecure channels of communication, such as
the internet. Encryption is also used to protect data being transferred between devices such as mobile
telephones, automatic teller machines (ATMs), and many more. Encryption can be used to create digital
signatures, which allow a message to be authenticated. When properly implemented, a digital signature
gives the recipient of a message reason to believe the message was sent by the claimed sender. 2.

Sexism In Video Games
Video Games. Video Gaming has been a popular form of entertainment in modern pop culture since the
early 1980 s. From the early beginnings of software producers such as Nintendo, they have been creating
games that have become favorable classics in only a few decades. With the most popular classic video
games including Super Mario Bros. (1985), Donkey Kong (1981), Pac Man (1980), and The Legend of
Zelda: Ocarina of Time (1998), we can quickly note some patterns. One of the patterns that we can note
is all of the main playable protagonists within these games are male. The second pattern that we can note
is the majority of the games listed above have a storyline written about rescuing a princess one of the
only notable female characters within the game. Along with this, the female characters are only story
advancing non playable characters (NPC s). When the online gaming community was first introduced
and popularized in the early 2000 s, females in the gaming community quickly faced another obstacle;
sexism. Anonymity within the gaming community has become more than a tactic to hide your identity.
For the majority of female gamers in the gaming community, anonymity has become a crucial aid to
avoid sexist comments and actions from other online players. According to a 2006 Consumer Electronics
Association (CEA) report, women who were aged between 25 34 were out playing males during non
console competitive gaming. Also from this report, we can note that in the UK women have

Immunizing Society Against Discrimination
The themes of racism and growing up are significant in Harper Lee s novel To Kill A Mockingbird.
Atticus Finch, a lawyer, is trying to defend a black man who has been falsely accused in a trial. His
children Scout and Jem don t understand a lot of the racism occurring in the beginning, but slowly start
to realize that people are being discriminated against and understand what they may be going through as
they grow up and mature. How is discrimination infectious? It can influence the young by family and/or
society. Atticus s children Scout and Jem, are brought up with the values of non discrimination and these
values will help them go far in life. Through the characters of Scout and Jem, Harper Lee demonstrates
that when growing up, people who are exposed to discrimination are encouraged to discriminate in
return.
Discrimination is contagious and harmful for the well being of the society. This book shows how the
mad dog which symbolizes racism, can enter a town and spread over like a disease. Calpurnia phones
Atticus and shouts There is a mad dog down the street (Lee 123). The mad dog is sick and diseased with
rabies which represents racism that is about to enter the town and spread this disease. Just like how
rabies is contagious, so is racism. When Atticus shoots the mad dog it is like he is shooting down racism
and prevents this contagious disease from spreading over the town. Secondly, Miss Maudie shows how
one small nutgrass can spread and ruin a whole yard which

The Russian Annexation Of Crimea
Introduction
This research paper aims to address issues relating primarily to the Russian annexation of Crimea in
2014. Annexation in itself brings forth an array of issues under international law, and the problem this
paper looks into is whether the acquisition of the Crimean territory by the Russian Federation was valid
in terms of international law, as well as analysing the arguments brought forward by Russia in defence of
its actions leading up to the annexation of the Crimean territory. Aspects relating to the use of force
principle will be critically discussed, as well as issues relating to infringement of state sovereignty.
1.1 The Research Problem
The main problem upon which this paper is based and aims to address relates to valid acquisition of
territory in terms of international law. Theories of acquisition of territory will be assessed as well as their
current standing under international law. Methods of acquiring territory will be addressed, and the issues
relating to the methods utilised by Russia in their annexation of the Crimean territory will be analysed
and a discussion will ensue as to whether there is any validity in these arguments under international law
with regard to annexation.
1.2 The Research Questions and Research Hypothesis
The questions this research paper will address is whether the specific methods utilised by the Russian
Federation were valid means of acquiring territory in terms of international law, elaborated on by a
detailed analysis of

Dumb And Dumber Rhetorical Analysis
After performing my informative speech, I immediately felt relieved. Mainly because I finally completed
the assignment. I felt a little nervous and shaky, but I practiced so I knew I wasn t going to mess up that
majorly. I went over it several times and changed a variety of things. I couldn t really think of any
visuals except for the video. So at first I had music behind every point I had. Each song was planned
appropriately for the topic of the point. Then, though, I knew that would be a hassle to deal with between
points, especially because I was already over on my time. I estimated that I was around seven minutes.
That was only in the beginning. So after that I apprehended I could do something from Jim Carrey s
movie Dumb and Dumber. The extra gloves act is really funny and everyone knows ... Show more

So I asked Jordan, my respectable acquaintance in the crowd, to take my extra gloves and say, Are you

before all of that of course, I pondered about three main points of Jim. The most recognizable is his
acting career, but I wouldn t talk about that the whole time. Another was his early life because countless
of people don t know he s from Canada or how he grew up very poor and even homeless. After those
two, I knew that he s been doing some different inspirational talks and speeches. One certain
inspirational type of tour he s performing is named the The Meaning . I ve seen some of his talks and
videos on YouTube and they re pretty interesting so I added that to the end of my speech. To wrap it all
up, I decided to have a visual of a video of Jim Carrey doing an uproarious scene from Ace Ventura: Pet

The Failure of the Great Leap Forward
The Great Leap Forward was Mao s new economic plan, which took place in China in 1958. The idea of
the Great Leap Forward was the rapid growth of agricultural and industrial production. It focused on
improving the productivity of all Chinese workers by investing in human development and labour
intensive technology. Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officials believed it would bring about economic
and technical development in great leaps rather than at a gradual pace. By using China s advantage of
manpower, Mao expected China to equal or exceed the industrial output of Great Britain and the United
States. Virtually every Chinese citizen took part in the Great Leap Forward, from the lowliest peasant to
the highest ranking CCP members. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Government spending on heavy industry grew in 1958 to represent 56 percent of state capital
investment, an increase from 38 percent in 1956. The backyard steel production plan resulted in entire
forests being burned to fuel the smelters that melt metal 24 hours a day, which left the land open to
erosion. Dense cropping and deep ploughing stripped the farmland and left if vulnerable as well. When
the autumn of 1958 came, many areas had a bumper crop because the soil was not yet exhausted. This
played a role in crop failures and eventually famine. With so much emphasis on steel output as well as
on development of other small industries and building projects, people were pulled away from
agriculture. Local leaders competed with one another to see who could create the most activity. In the
rush to recruit labor, agricultural tasks were neglected, sometimes leaving the grain harvest to rot in the
fields. Crop production began to falter. But Mao was adamant about increasing agricultural output, and
communes were expected to meet high quotas or face punishment. In the frenzy of the competition, the
CCP officers and many peasants exaggerated their harvests to their superiors in Beijing. There were
claims that gigantic vegetables cabbages, cucumbers, tomatoes, and millions of pounds of potatoes and
huge volumes of grain had been produced. Because of the falsely exaggerated harvest, much of the grain
was diverted from rural to urban areas. It was kept in storage or

Ancient Greece Architecture
Ancient Greece has always been an interest of mine I choose number two as my topic because the
architecture is amazingly beautiful. Also a lot of ancient greece architecture has gone through hardship
that there is little to no remains of the structure, trying to imagine what structure would look like or if
reconstruction was added to the structure is very interesting. The Temple of Hera II or Apollo , Paestum,
Italy, ca. 460 BCE. (Figure #1) and the Temple of Athena Nike, Acropolis, Athens, Greece, ca. 427 424
BCE. (Figure #3) are great examples of this. The reading below can tell you more about these two
temples, their similarities and differences
The Doric order is a sophisticated form of architecture. The columns in the doric order are wide, seiver,
and heavy. The columns don t have a base, the columns go straight down. The doric buildings are
generally larger buildings. The doric order also has a broken down frieze to it. It is made up of a pattern
of the triglyph and the metope. (Kleiner 103 160) (Tanzi Lecture 10a)
The Ionic order is more of a classical form architecture. Generally Ionic structures is used in smaller
temples, and the columns are more decorative, the capitals right above the columns. The columns also
have bases to them. Ionic structures have continuous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Unpaved Roads In Ancient Rome
The importance of the paved and unpaved roads leading out of the heart of Rome was crucial to the
spread, advancement, and growth of the Empire from where the roads came from (Beers, World history:
patterns of civilization, 1993, pp.115). These roads were built from about 300 BC through the expansion
and consolidation of the Roman Republic and the Roman Empire (Forbes, Robert J. Studies in Ancient
Technology. Leiden: Brill, 1993. Print). Roman roads were a part of the development of the Roman state.
Roads were also a visible indicator of the might of Rome, and they helped unify what was a vast melting
pot of cultures, races, and institutions. The Roman road system spanned more than 400,000 km of roads,
including over 80,500 km of paved roads. When Rome reached the height of its power, no fewer than 29
great military highways radiated from the city. ( Roads in Ancient Rome Crystalinks) ... Show more

For this reason many roads began and ended in a triumphal arch, and the imperial official associated with
noticing the project was demonstrated in the fact that roads were often named after the magistrate official
who funded it. (Cartwright, Roman Roads , 2014) Many of these roads still exist up to this day,
stretching from Spain, Britain, France, Italy, Asia Minor, Greece, Palestine, Egypt, and North Africa. The
Romans planned and built these networks of roads that reached the far corners of their empire, and
connected them to the Roman Capital City. (Fisher, World history for Christian schools, 1984, p.

A Good Time and A Good Idea to Enter the Credit Rating Business
Jules Kroll is planning to enter into the ratings industry. To determine whether it is a good idea and a
good time for him to enter into the new business, we project the 5 year NPV for KBRA and apply SWOT
analysis to KBRA. The 5 year projected NPV is $341.1 million, a positive number. It is a good time and
a good idea for KBRA to enter the business. However, through our SWOT analysis, it would be difficult
for KBRA to become competitive in a short time. Thus we suggest it add a credit rating division into the
company to make attempts to it but not start up a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, without revenues from users of ratings, it will be tougher to finance startup costs and future
operating.
Beside internal factors, we examine the external factors, Opportunities and Threats, of KBRA. The
incumbent credit raters fail in the financial crisis gave an opportunity for new rating agencies like
KBRA. After the financial crisis, the government and the investors realized the importance of
appropriate corporate credit rating. The government might tend to subsidize newly established rating
organizations and create new regulations for credit rating in order to eliminate the oligopoly of three big
financial agencies. KBRA benefits from such environment. Also, it is easier for small or new rating
agencies like KBRA to apply a new revenue model under revised regulations.
After the financial crisis, many new rating agencies announced their entry into the credit rating business.
Many of them were prominent to the public and owned a great quantity of resource. The entering of new
firms made the credit rating industry competitive and thus posed a threat on KBRA.
The Failures of Incumbent Credit Raters
The incumbent credit raters had received severe criticism following the collapse in creditworthiness and
prices of mortgage and asset backed securities during the financial crisis in 2008 and 2009. The three
large rating agencies were accused of facilitating a vast bubble in these securities by issuing overly

The Relationship Between Human Relations And Public Relations
Human relations refers to everything we do with, for, and to each other as citizens and as human beings
(Dempsey, 2014, pg. 330). An example is officers integrating ongoing training initiatives for departments
to establish respect within communities, regardless of color, ethnicity, economic status or sexual
orientation. Public relations is a strategic communication process that builds strong relationships
between the public and organizations. The public relations approach reflects efforts to improve the public
s perception of the police, by informing the public why departments and officers do what they do and
enhancing their public image as first responders and community helpers. Community relations really ties
both human relations and public relations together. Communities rely on police departments to protect
and serve and the police, in turn, rely on community support and cooperation, but the relationship is not
always harmonious (RAND, 2017). They could be either negative or positive, depending on the type of
interaction. An example of this is by taking active interests in the community problems, participating in
local government, or simply going to youth activities such as middle/high school events. Involvement in
community programs and neighborhood projects can bring the citizens together with police by creating a
purpose to build unity and show a more personable side of the police.

Alpaca Wool Research Paper
What the Warmest Winter Gear is made out of. Anyone who lives in a cold climate has gotten cold in
their winter gear. They ve tried different winter gear made out of different materials, but they always
found themselves too cold or too hot. And are wasting there money on different kinds of winter gear, and
most do not work out. What if they tried wool, synthetic, or alpaca wool, which one keeps people the
warmest in the winter?
By 4000 BC, Babylonians were wearing clothing out of crudely woven wool fabric. People soon began
to develop and maintain herds of wool bearing animals, and the wool of sheep was soon recognized as
one of the most practical to use. During the eleventh and twelfth centuries, wool trade prospered in

fibers. Alpaca wool is not as tightly bound as wool, thus making it easier to breath through but, is also
thick enough to keep in the heat better than regular wool.
There is snow gear made out of other materials, and different materials mixed together to make thicker,

Compare And Contrast The Emancipation Proclamation
The Emancipation Proclamation and The Emancipation Manifesto were two documents written in the
mid nineteenth century with many similarities. The two were similar in ways, they were abolishing
something that their respective governments believed was wrong, they were different in the way that
they were written for different reasons and had their own purposes. The conditions in both America and
Russia were similar in ways but different in many as well, the two leaders at the time, Abraham Lincoln
and Alexander II chose to solve their problem in a process that also compared and differed from one
another. I believe that the Emancipation Proclamation was the best solution for the problems that these
countries faced in my opinion.

I believe that the Emancipation Proclamation was the better solution. The Emancipation Proclamation
did so much more than just abolish slavery. It gave the Union a clear cut war objective and that was for
the freedom of the African American slaves. Many African Americans soon joined the fight because they
knew that they were fighting for their own freedom. Lincoln knew as well if he issued the Emancipation
Proclamation it would create chaos in the south when word was received by the slaves that they were
supposed to be free. By issuing the Emancipation Proclamation Lincoln also made it very difficult for
any foreign nations to join in on the side of the Confederacy. The British of the French could never join
in on the war because they themselves had abolished slavery years ago and the view of them in the world
would decrease immensely if they were to join a war to support slavery. All these reasons are why I
believe that the Emancipation Proclamation was the better solution out of the two

The True Nature Of Universal Intelligence And Innate...
INNATE INTELLIGENCE
We have seen that the essence or origin of all that exists is intelligence, and it is organized in similar
patterns throughout the Universe. Therefore, we called it Universal Intelligence. By inference, we
understand that this principle is not foreign or external to the universe, but that it is rather intrinsic,
innate in all its manifestations, all phenomena of Life. Let s see what the definitions of the word innate
tells us: that which exists inside ; that which is with ; native or natural ; that which is essential in nature .
And the meaning of essential: what is in itself ; own and permanent identity . The essential nature of
everything that exists, all beings, animated or inanimated, including Man, is therefore the Universal
Intelligence, and we say that this is innate and gives them an identical essence that unites them despite
their apparent or superficial difference.
Innate Intelligence, or innate, is the term that applies to the present universal essence in each one of us. It
is the true nature of man. Intelligence, Universal and Innate, is what is. It is what we are really. The life
of our body, the existence of our mind, our spirit, is inherently innate intelligence in us. Beyond the

The Anasazi Indians
It was during the time period that Christ was born that the Anasazi Indians appeared in the Four Corners
area which is the area where the boundaries of Arizona, Utah, New Mexico and Colorado meet. For the
over a thousand years the Anasazi thrived and built their homes into the side of cliffs. These cliff
dwellings could only be reached by climbing and made for a great defense system against enemies; some
dwellings reached five stories in height and contained hundreds of rooms. Many of the elaborate cliff
dwellings and terraced apartment houses built of stone, mud, and wood that dot the Four Corners region
still stand today and date back to about 9,000 CE., but the people who comprised this desert culture did
not begin to settle into an agricultural lifestyle until around A.D. 400. The Anasazi, which is a Navajo
word meaning the ancient ones , likely received corn, squash and beans, which are a prime source of
protein, added to their diet and the knowledge to raise them from their southern neighbors in Mexico.
Vegetable crops provided a reliable food source that made an increase in population possible and also
allowed time for other interests such as religion, art, ritual, public works and handicrafts. This allowed
the Anasazi society continued to evolve and progress. The ancient ones also possessed beans, a prime
source of protein and new varieties of corn. Other innovations included the bow and arrow which
eventually replaced spears and at least two varieties of dogs

The Things They Carried By Tim O Brien
The protagonist, who is named Tim O Brien, begins by describing an event that occurred in the middle
of his Vietnam experience. The Things They Carried catalogs the variety of things his fellow soldiers in
the Alpha Company brought on their missions. Several of these things are intangible, including guilt and
fear, while others are specific physical objects, including matches, morphine, M 16 rifles, and M M s
candy. Tim O Brien, the narrator and protagonist of the collection of stories. O Brien is a pacifist who
rationalizes his participation in Vietnam by concluding that his feelings of obligation toward his family
and country are stronger influences than his own politics. When the war is over, he uses his ability to tell
stories to deal with his guilt and confusion over the atrocities he witnessed in Vietnam, including the
death of several of his fellow soldiers and of a Viet Cong soldier by his own hand. Throughout the
collection, the same characters reappear in various stories. The first member of the Alpha Company to
die is Ted Lavender, a grunt, or low ranking soldier, who deals with his anxiety about the war by taking
tranquilizers and smoking marijuana. Whenever he looked at the photographs, he thought of new things
he should have done. (Chapter 1, pg. 5) Lavender is shot in the head on his way back from going to the
bathroom, and his superior, Lieutenant Jimmy Cross, blames himself for the tragedy. When Lavender is

Theory of Demand and Supply
1. Supply and Demand
Economists Are a Joke?
________________________________________
A smarty pants old story says that if you want a learned economist, all you have to do is get a parrot and
train the bird to squawk supply and demand in response to every question.
Not fair, but ...
It s true that the theory of supply and demand is a central part of economics. It is widely applicable, and
also is a model of the way economists try to think most problems through, even when the theory of
supply and demand is not applicable.
A Theory of Price

First, demand.
Demand
________________________________________
In economics, we need to use terms a little more carefully than they are sometimes used in ordinary
discussions. In general use, Demand is a word that can have more than one meaning, but in
microeconomics we define it more carefully so that it has only one meaning. Here is the definition:
Definition: Demand
Demand is the relationship between price and quantity demanded for a particular good and service in
particular circumstances. For each price the demand relationship tells the quantity the buyers want to buy
at that corresponding price. The quantity the buyers want to buy at a particular price is called the
Quantity Demanded.
The key point is to distinguish between demand (the relationship) and quantity demanded. That
distinction is important for microeconomics, although people often do not make it in ordinary discussion.
Why do we define demand in this specialized

Alteration Of The Surrounding Rock
An Overview of Hydrothermal Ore Process Fluid Source, Compositions, and Transportation
Hydrothermal solutions cause alteration of the surrounding rock. Hydrothermal ore forming processes
can be found everywhere on Earth throughout the crust, most observed ore deposits have more than
likely been touched by Hydrothermal ore forming processes. Rose and Burt (1979) state that
Hydrothermal alteration is conversion of an initial mineral assemblage to a new set of minerals more

Meteoric waters are widespread through the crust (because of the method of delivery being rain rainfall)
and are associated with many types of ore formations. The oxygen and hydrogen isotopes compositions
of meteoric water, both surface and as groundwater, vary systematically over the entire globe as a
function of latitude and elevation (Robb, 2005, p 133). The way in which meteoric water is identified are
the δD and δ18O isotopic values that land near or along this line δD=8×δ^18 O+10. Connate

The Crucial Role Of Interest Groups In The United States
Interest groups are playing a very crucial role in all democratic governance. However, Lobby or interest
groups should be limited on how they influence the law making processes in the State of Texas. Some of
the areas they influence are very critical and should have limit as to which they can influence their
legislation. groups are very different from each other in terms of their recourses, size, tactics, age,
ideological focus, geographical coverage and sophistication. So assuming that they represent a large
group would be a big mistake. No matter how much they are limited, interest groups do not act in the
best interests of the democracy. They only serve what their members feels is right. According to one of
the links, lobbyists are seen as salespeople whose aim is to solely influence the law makers. ... Show

However, limiting their access to funds could paralyze some of their operations. For example, Texas

amendment has given to them. A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State,
the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. (DeConde). That being said, a
lobby group can hide itself behind that, while in real sense its interest are quite different. The
government should place more rigid limitations and more oversight on all interest groups, not just those
with access to greater funds. I believe all interest groups should be treated same by the

How Did Emily Dickinson s Life Influence Her Poetry
Emily Dickinson Her Life and Poetry
Emily Elizabeth Dickinson was born December 10, 1830, into an influential family in Amherst,
Massachusetts. Her father helped found Amherst College, where Emily later attended between 1840 and
1846. She never married and died in the house where she was born on May 15, 1886.
Emily Dickinson s reclusive life was arguably a result of her proposed bi polar disorder. This life and
disorder unduly influenced the themes of her poetry. She chose not to associate herself with society and
volumes of her poems, published posthumously, examine this idea as well as the themes of nature and
death. The clearest examples of these themes are presented in the following analysis of just of few of her

This poem conjures images of a solemn ceremony in which the soul reigns superior by shutting out
everyone, including the emperor, similar to the shutting out of everyone that Dickinson did. In one of
Dickinson s most famous poems, I heard a Fly buzz, the theme of death is presented as well as a
symptomatic characteristic of bi polar disorder. The poem itself epitomizes her preoccupation with death
and the macabre and also shows how the small, normally ignorable sound of a fly buzzing becomes the
only thing heard, she magnifies this sound in a situation when it seems that everything else is much more
important, but this inability to drown out extraneous noises is typical of someone suffering from manic
depression. The form of this poem employs all of Dickinson s formal patterns: trimeter and tetrameter
iambic lines, her specific use of the dash to interrupt the meter of the poem, and it is in ABCB rhyme
scheme.
Two of Dickinson s universal techniques are metaphor and the fresh application of language; both
techniques result in powerful images, and can be seen in two of her poems that focus on nature themes, A
Bird came down the Walk and narrow Fellow. She closes the poem, A Bird with a stanza equating flight
through the air with movement through water,

Attending a full nude production often comes with guilty anticipation in American culture. Even the
most modest of attendees enter the space with bold boundary breaking, fuck rules on purpose kind of

performance that addresses naked truth of what public feminist space can be.
While some of the play is quite literally bottoms up, Untitled Feminist Show does not hold to typical a

Employee Benefit Plans
Employee benefits are an important cog in the wheel of industry in today s busy world. Oftentimes,
potential employees are more interested in the benefits a company provides than in the salary or
compensation they will be receiving. Potential employees oftentimes desire healthcare or insurance plans
and pension plans that will take care of them for the long term, not a short term benefit plan. In the past,
employers often took a cookie cutter approach, offering the exact same benefits as every other company
offered. Such an approach is no longer the norm, instead many companies now work hand in hand with
their employees to design benefit plans that fit the employee s needs rather than the cheapest or most
convenient benefit plan available. As one recent report espoused a good example is the shift from
defined benefit pension plans for which employers bear the funding burden to defined contribution plans,
which are generally funded by employers and employees together (Vandermillen, 2012, p. 19).
According to Vandermillen, employers now have the responsibility to make sure employees have the
knowledge and tools they need to help them make the most of their retirement benefits (p. 19). Now
employers not only have to provide benefits that are conducive to employee retention but it seems that
they also have to assist the employees in understanding exactly how those benefits are advantageous to
the employees. Employees from different areas of the United States may

Compare Beowulf And The Faerie Queene
After reading the assigned stories I have chosen to write about the Faerie Queene and Beowulf. Both
Redcrosse and Beowulf show the perfect hero in two periods, Both Beowulf and Redcrosse Knight
exemplify the perfect hero in two separate periods, The Early Modern Period and The Middle Age.
Beowulf shows the effect of the spread of Christianity, values heroic deeds and bravery above all else.
Beowulf s heroism is explored in three separate conflicts, those with Grendel, Grendel s mother, and the
sea monster. Redcrosse Knight, The Faerie Queen, show Holiness, though he is the individual Christian
fighting against evil.
The Faerie Queene, was written during the early modern period, shows a massive change in Christian
religious practices. Redcrosse offers his services to Gloriana, Queen of Fairyland Una reveals that the
dragon of hell has captured her parents and that she needs assistance in getting them free. Redcrosse
takes on the challenge of getting her parents released (Canto 1). This demonstrate a hero, he will go
through great trials and fight fierce monsters and this in itself is the character of a heroic knight. Not
only does his armor protect his body and those with him, but also being a Christian he has the protection
of Christ. For the Christian to be holy, he must have faith.

Essay about Black Holes
If theories of their existence are true, black holes are the most powerful force in the known physical
universe. Many people are familiar with the term black hole, but few people actually know anything
about them. A black hole forms as a result of a massive star running out of fuel to burn (Chaisson, 193).
Once the star is no longer exerting outward force by burning off gases, it begins to collapse under it s
own intense, inward gravity (Chaisson, 193). It is like slowly letting the air out of a balloon. Once the
star is compacted to a certain size, while it s mass, or weight, remains the same, it s gravity becomes so
powerful that nothing can escape it (Hawking, 87). This critical size to weight ratio is known as the
Schwarzchild
Radius ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The simple formula for this, in physics, states that a body s escape velocity is equal to the square root of
it s mass, divided by it s radius
(Chaisson, 77). For example, if a body s mass is two hundred, and it s size is twelve and one half, the
escape velocity would be four. If the size of the same body is reduced to two, while it s mass remained at
two hundred, the escape velocity increases to ten. Since a black hole s size is always decreasing and it s
weight is always the same, the escape velocity is infinite (Chaisson,
195). This means that nothing can escape a black hole past the event horizon, not even light. Light is
made up of waves and particles. It was discovered, in 1676, by Danish astronomer, Ole
Christenson, that light travels at a very high, but finite speed (Hawking, 18). These properties of light
govern that it must be subject to forces of nature, such as gravity. Light travels at such a high speed that
it is not observably effected by gravity, unless that gravity is very strong. A black hole s gravity is
powerful enough to trap light because it s escape velocity, being infinite, exceeds the speed of light
(Hawking, 82). This is why a black hole is black. Once light crosses the event horizon it is drawn into
the hole in space. Although the light is still hitting objects, it is not able to bounce off to indicate their
existence to an observer,

Is Bicycling A Low Impact Exercise
Bicycling is a low impact exercise that mainly utilizes the lower extremeties that can be beneficial to
people ranging from a youthful child to an elderly individual. Using a pedal to ride a bike on a regular
basis can increase muscle strength and flexibility (Better Health Channel, 2015). There are two different
stages, the Power phase and the Recovery phase. To better understand these phases imagine a clock,
most of the power happens between the 12 and 5 o clock position of the pedal stroke. This is when a
majority of the primary muscles are activated. Hip flexion, along with hip and knee extension are the
primary movements of a pedal stroke. The recovery stage begins between the 6 and 12 o clock position
in the pedal revolution. There is some knee flexion to help bring the pedal back to the top but helping
that flexion is the greater downward force being placed on the opposite pedal, by the opposite leg. The
muscles that help return the foot to the top range from the hamstrings and calves at the bottom of the
stroke, pulling the foot backwards, to the quadriceps at the top, lifting the foot and knee back to the 12 o
clock position. There are several muscle groups that are used in the lower extremities to pedal a bicycle,
which are the Quadriceps Femoris, Hamstrings, Gluteals, Gastrocnemius, Soleus and hip flexors. The
upper extremities along with the transverse abdominus, oblique abdominal muscles, torso, and the lower
back are the stabilizers for pedaling a bike (Lee

Blue Zone Culture
The biggest difference between the Blue Zones and the Rest of America is their culture. In these areas,
individuals tend to be naturally more active and eat healthier. In all three areas, they eat a mainly plant

cheese full of Omega 3 fatty acids. These communities also find natural ways to keep them active
walking wherever they go, gardening, bike riding and most importantly finding ways to stay active if
they choose to retire. These cultures also tend to have a social system that finds pride in their elders, so
aging adults are surrounded with family and friends. They also pride taking time to relax and destress
reducing stress hormones like cortisol. From the Blue Zone type of behaviors, I try to be active. With

The Concepts Of Power In Michel Foucault, Knowledge And Power
Discourses have a different set of meanings, metaphors, images and stories so that together it can create
a version of events and representing it in a certain structural form. Discourses make us see the world in a
certain way. Each discourse has a different story about the topic in question and shows a different way of
representing the topic to the world. Discourses have another suggestion for what we do every day.
Discourses claim that truth and knowledge are not important and is the centre of the discussion of
identity, power and change. There is a notion attitude . Attitude is a dispositional model that is used in
the discipline of psychology and opinions. Michel Foucault was a French philosopher and has a
background in psychology. He was interested in how knowledge and power were used as a shape of
social control through institutions. Discourses displays our knowledge of the world. In Foucault s view,
knowledge and power goes together as a pair. There is a close relationship between discourse,
knowledge and power; this becomes clear through social practices. An individual s understanding of the
relationship between power and knowledge is that knowledge can raise an individual s power. In
Foucault s eyes, knowledge is connected closely with power. What it is possible for one person to do to
another, under what rights and obligations, is given by the version of events currently taken as
knowledge. Therefore, the power to act in particular ways, to claim resources, to

Economic Factors That Affect Small Business
Small businesses are an integral part of the economy of any country. They employ many and act as an
income source to governments. However, in comparison to the large enterprises, small businesses tend to
be vulnerable to various economic activities and changes due to their nature in size. Over time, the
economic factors have proved either a challenge or a boost to the growth and expansion of these
businesses. Among the various economic activities that affect various businesses is the economic
slowdown and government legislation. An Economic slowdown can result in grave consequences for
long term businesses whereas government legislations can either create a new market sector or close
down existing sectors. Economic factors have a massive impact on how small businesses operate and
tend to dictate their success or failure.
There exist different economies, and various questions arise when it comes to the ideal capitalist
economy of a small business. Small businesses tend to perform better in competitive economies. When
compared to selling goods, service industry would be the best suitable to offer in a capitalist economy.
Consumers usually portray a spendthrift behavior whenever they are in need of a service that they deem
essential but can afford the luxury of having someone provide it to them. On the other hand, economic
factors are likely to influence the quantity of goods and services offered in the service industry. Such a
situation affects almost all small businesses

Hg Wells The Time Machine Essay
The Time Machine
The Time Machine is a social critique of Victorian England by H.G. Wells, wrote with the future in
mind. Wells was a socialist who most supported Communists theories and applications. In all his works,
both non fiction and novels, he looked at capitalism and argued that it was one of the greatest ills that the
modern society was facing and would probably continue to face many years later. The advent of
technology, capital mechanism, and education paved the way for the Industrial Revolution between the
17th and 18th Centuries, and the effects were felt up to the end of the 19th century. The Time Traveler
depicted in The Time Machine was leading in economic power. The industrialists by that time were still
laboring for long hours in smoke filled and dirty factories, with meager earnings (Taunton n.p).

Sir Alex Ferguson Research Paper
Reasons why Sir Alex Ferguson was successful enough to become famous Apart from Ferguson s status
as British s most successful manager with a jaw dropping haul of 38 trophies, both domestic and
internationally, which had already made him a marque in the footballing world, he is particularly well
known among his peers and counterparts alike for few other reasons. Fergie Time Ferguson intimidating
referee for additional playing time The term was coined when it was often seen on the television that
Ferguson intimidate referees in the closing stages of the match to obtain additional playing time for his
team to score and win, especially when his team were behind the score line. This further cemented
Manchester United s reputation for winning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The phrase was made popular by his players to describe the dressing room s rages. Whenever a player
makes mistake, it was said that during halftime, he would stand in the middle of the room and loses it all
out on that specific player. He will then get right up at his face and shouts real loud, which feels akin to
putting a head in front of a hairdryer. This treatment was particularly made famous by a spectacular bust
up between himself and his star player, David Beckham. It was said that when Ferguson was about to
start his hairdryer treatment, he accidentally kicked a boot right about Beckham s eye. The incident
broke when Beckham wore a band to highlight his injury in the public. Their relationship then turned
sour with Beckham moving to Real Madrid in the summer. In an article entitled Ferguson s Formula
published by Harvard Business Review in its October 2013 issue by Professor Anita Elberse, it was
highlighted that there are 8 main reasons that contributed to Ferguson s success that led to his fame. In
starting with the foundation, Ferguson highlighted that he built a team that would last for years, not just a
winning team for one season, where Rome wasn t built in a day . In daring to rebuild his team, he
acknowledges that a cycle of a winning team could only last up to 4 years and he usually rebuilt his team

Summary Of A Good Man Is Hard To Find By Flannery OConnor
Flannery O Connor often criticizes southern customs. Her writing often exemplifies her views that cast
the south as a spiritual wasteland, overcrowded by people who preach and pride themselves on the
premise that they are good Christians. She in turn, casts them as a God fearing people. They possess the
ability to cast aside their beliefs when it suits them. These God fearing people, as portrayed in her
writing, seemed to strive for some hollow form of respect, only obtainable under a false belief that, they
deserved to be held in high regards. This leads to one of the main ideas on which Flannery O Conner
bases her writing; the absence of God. Literary critic George Kilcourse argues, that O Connor portrays
southerners of the time period as religious hypocrites, I agree with Kilcourse because, in A Good Man is
Hard to Find, O Connor is able to illustrate how hypocritical people of holy demeanor truly are. Utilizing
the characters of the Grandmother and The Misfit, O Connor is able to outline this hypocrisy, with the
weaknesses and desire for redemption that is innate in nearly every human being, regardless of whether
it s consciously known or not.
The Grandmother is one of the first members of the family that O Connor introduces. O Connor depicts
the Grandmother as lady like, wearing a dress with flowers pinned, white gloves, and a hat so that, in
case of an accident, anyone seeing her dead on the highway would know at once that she was a lady (O
Connor 8). The

Impact Of Slavery On The Indian Ocean
Slavery in the Western Hemisphere has had an unmistakable impact on the the world and for those who
live in the United States of America, it s impact is still seen today. For the most part this impact has been
negative on the United States seeing as though it brought about immense racial tension between blacks
and whites which is still today, crippling the nation. This type of slavery did not allow for upward
mobility in the slave community. Seeing that Slavery across the Indian Ocean was not based upon race,
and more upon social class and sexuality, there was more of a sense of upward mobility in the Indian
Ocean slave trade than there was in the transatlantic slave trade which involved more brutal treatment
based upon race. Today, slavery is known as one of the most inhumane acts of mankind. Slaves were
brought over from their countries, mainly from the western and southern coast of Africa, to work for the
Europeans without pay. Not only were they without pay, they were brought over in boats, packed on all
decks of the ship in such a way that was comparable to a can of sardines. Slaves were taken and shipped
to countries in South America and North America, to work on plantations to harvest plants such as,
Tobacco, Cotton, Sugarcane, and Indigo. These slaves worked 20 hour days on these plantations and
were rewarded with slave quarters which were in most cases in unlivable conditions. No matter what
state of health a slave was in, they were expected to work

How Tragic Patters Grow Individual Characters In Othello
Charlie Pena
Professor Flick
English 1B
14 November 2014
Othello: To Death Do Us In the play Othello by William Shakespeare we see tragic patters grow in
individual characters such as the main protagonist Othello. Othello is a character of high stature who is
destroyed by his surroundings, his own actions, and his fate. His destruction is essentially precipitated by
his own actions, as well as by the actions of the characters surrounding him. Othello is an interesting
character whose ability to utilize logic is greatly missing when he is led to believe that his wife has
cheated on him. The reasoning behind the false belief is that
Lago plotted the scenario of the handkerchief that was a gift to his Desdemona. The handkerchief was
important to Othello because the handkerchief was a gift that was full of sentiment and meaning to
Desdemona. Lago s wife. Amelia believed that the handkerchief might help her out with her relationship
with Lago, her husband. Lago was not physically intimate with Amelia. Lago liked Desdemona and
wanted her to himself. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Othello s best friend Lago was passed over for promotion. Othello did not thoroughly think through his
decision to pass over Lago and so Lago schemes to bring Othello down. Othello was betrayed by Lago
and Othello stops thinking clearly by stepping back and assessing the situation that he finds himself in.
Lago wants to destroy Othello but Othello is unaware of this. Unfortunately for Othello and his lack of
insight into what has been transpiring sets him on a downward spiral in which he believes that his wife
Desdemona has been cheating on him. The reason for Othello s belief that his wife is cheating is based
solely on the handkerchief which is in Cassio s room which sets up Cassio to be the fall guy. With all of
this going on, Othello is clearly running on emotions instead of

Fight Club Book Vs Movie
Mason Witt Media and Film December 5, 2016 For my essay, I chose to compare Fight Club, by Chuck
Palahniuk, published in 1996, with its movie counterpart of the same name, directed by David Fincher in
1999, starring Brad Pitt and Edward Norton. Overall, the movie was remarkably faithful to the novel,
despite a few scenes being changed, likely to save an overly long runtime. Keeping that in mind, much
of both the book and the movie was open to interpretation by the reader, which makes citing specific
differences between the two stories difficult. The novel Fight Club is about (and narrated by) a raging
insomniac that is never named, who finds that the only way that he can sleep at night is by sitting in on
support groups for deadly diseases

Analyze The Letters King Afonso Nzinga
In the late fifteenth century the Portuguese were expanding its kingdom in Africa where it tapped into the
existing gold and slave trades of the western Sudan and West Central Africa (Ehret 339). By the early
sixteenth century, the Americas became a major player in the global commerce system as the Spanish
and Portuguese began to carve at the land and importing and exporting sugar, tobacco, and slaves. Slaves
in this moment were the chief commodity that the Portuguese sought from West Central Africa as they
provided the free labor that was needed to cultivate and maintain sugar plantations in the Americas.
However, the slave trade was not a one sided system, in fact many African elites, like King Afonso a
Nzinga of the Kongo allowed for the buying and selling of African people to Europeans. In other words,
Europeans traded with Africa because Africa allowed it to happen, however, there are moment when the
demand overshadowed the supply. The slave trade and its many complications is one way in
understanding the expanding commercial exchanges between Europeans and West Central Africans
during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. This essay will analyze the letters King Afonso Nzinga
wrote to the King of Portugal, Joao ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In a way it was a precursor to the oncoming storm of the slave trade and its global impact. However it is
evident through the letters of Afonso, in this moment, that although Africans were collaborating with the
Portuguese in trade that they did not want them to kidnap their nobleman or weakening its currency.
Furthermore, the trade relations of the Atlantic Age specifically with the Portuegeuse and the Kongo help
us understand the expansion of commercial exchange between West Central Africa and Europeans and
give us a glimpse at the long term and widespread impact it would have in

Apple Incorporated Research Paper
Apple Incorporated:
An Analysis
Adit Singh
Business 50.1 Company Research Paper
Apple Inc.
Technology has taken an uprising since the late 20th century to our world today. Everyone essentially
owns some sort of technological device from cellphones to computers. Companies like Microsoft, Xerox
and Canon have made our lives simpler and possibly much easier, but there was another company
waiting to override the norm and push an industry giant to its limits. Apple Incorporated, followed an
unconventional path to its recent success in the computer industry, despite being consistently dominated
by Microsoft.
What is the business of this company? Apple Inc. In its entirety designs, manufactures, and markets
personal computers, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Apple has seemed to always make products which cater to the general public whether its technically or
aesthetically. It appeal within the youth might also contribute to their output power. For example just the
people who purchase Apple products can dictate how much Apple can charge consumers.
Who are the major competitors of this company? Because of the continuously expanding horizons of
Apple, its list of competitors seems to grow more and more as the company moves forward. For
example, other companies in the business of selling personal computers based on different operating
systems have aggressively cut prices and lowered their product margins to gain or maintain market share.
It is widely known that Apple s market share in the digital music industry is far more dominant
compared to any other competitor in that market, hence that shouldn t even be considered a market
where Apple faces fierce competition. We must mention Apple s step into the mobile communications
market with their revolutionary product, the iPhone. Apple faces many well established competitors, but
despite the appeal of their product, they cannot win over the whole market because of its price, and
because of the imitations other competitors make of the iPhone. This essentially reduces Apple s chance
to completely take over the mobile communications market.
What are the core competencies of this company and how are these used to competitive advantage?
Apple is unique in the sense that

The Show, Mad Men, By Roger Sterling
Some people believe that the more money a person has, the less satisfied the person is in life. Women s
emotions are not affected the same, but some women s emotions are affected differently by dealing with
different men with different income compared to other men. The show, Mad Men, takes place in the
1960 s New York, portraying the life of the protagonist, Don Draper (Jon Hamm), the Creative Director
of Sterling Cooper Agency, an advertising agency owned by Roger Sterling (John Slattery). Don Draper
is praised for his work, but many of the employees in the company, like Draper, are filled with arrogance
and disrespect that not only the men face, but the women tolerate. The episode Shoot mainly focuses on
how Don does not want his wife, Betty Draper (January Jones), to model again, on how the agency is
trying to figure out how to stop John F. Kennedy s campaign on the air, and how Don is trying to figure
out to leave Sterling Cooper Agency and work for McCann Erikson Firm, a different advertising agency.
Throughout the episode, many can notice the men degrading and utilizing the women in the episode by
making rude, sexual remarks towards the women or competing to be better than the women. Betty
symbolizes a married woman who becomes more dependent as her husband becomes more successful.
Betty s expectation to be a dutiful, nurturing mother is displayed in her mother daughter relationship.
This episode s depiction of working, single women indicates that single women are

  • 2. Virtue Ethics Vs. Sentimentalist Virtue Virtue Ethics vs. Sentimentalist Virtue Ethics Virtue Ethics is defined as any character based approach to normative ethics that emphasizes some conception virtues and vices; often including a universal conception of human flourishing (Blakley, Christopher). Aristotle and David Hume developed accounts of ethics that remained true to their own empirical philosophies; both of which stray away from the more traditional accounts. Their opposing theories contain the overall theme of how a virtuous person would live their life. In contrast, David Hue developed his own account of sentimentalist virtue ethics that challenges, or pushes back on, the virtue ethics Aristotle. According to Aristotle, we should be virtuous people, and therefore perform virtuous acts. Instead of talking about particular actions and the rules according to which they are undertaken, then, Aristotle requires us to look at virtues, or qualities of character. Aristotle s teachings emphasize more on character traits rather than rules or obligations. Moral agency is not merely a matter of which rules to follow, but a whole way of life. It requires a unity of thought and feeling, which is characteristic of what Aristotle, called virtue (Boetzkes and Waluchow, p. 23). What is a virtue, and what is the virtuous life? Aristotle s definition is cited as a state of character concerned with choice, lying in a mean, i.e., the mean relative to us, this being determined by rational principle, that principle by ... The British Empire, with its influence and the power to control, during its greatest time was one of the largest empires to ever cover the world. The Japanese Empire while not as powerful and vast as the British Empire was able to use the change of its government to begin its own conquests. While the British Empire had many positive things it provided to those under its control it like any other empire in history it did have its own fair share of negative impact on those cultures they maintained, the Japanese were in the same situation. The reason for this being my favorite place is because of how green and simply beautiful this place is. I have had the fortune of getting to visit this state twice. I even took a train ride home from Washington through Oregon down to California. I must add the scenery is seriously beautiful. I have never seen so many trees in my life. The name Oregon means windstorm or hurricane. The reason they gave it this name is because of the powerful chinook winds of the Columbia River that blows through this state. I also wanted to do this place because they are known for their cheese and ice cream from the Tillamook brand. They also have a lot of wild berries growing and have about 80 national parks you can visit. In Cannon Beach there is the famous Haystack rock. Haystack rock is 235 ft tall and is home to wildlife. It also has made great tidepools full of marine life. Crater lake happens to be the deepest lake in the United States and the second deepest in all of North America. It also ranks number 9 in the world. The way this massively deep lake was formed was due to the collapse of a volcano ,known as Mount Mazama. Its max depth is 1.949ft. • 5. Annotated Bibliography On Database Encryption 1. INTRODUCTION Database Encryption is one of the technique used for securing the data in database. This method transforms information on a computer in such a way that it becomes unreadable. So, even if someone is able to gain access to a computer with personal data on it, they likely won t be able to do anything with the data unless they have original data key, complicated or expensive software. The main function of encryption is essentially to translate normal text into cipher text. Encryption makes sure that data doesn t get read by the wrong people, but can also ensure that data isn t altered in transit, and verify the identity of the sender. Data Encryption method typically uses a specified parameter or key to perform the data transformation. Some encryption algorithms require the key to be the same length as the message to be encoded, yet other encryption algorithms can operate on much smaller keys relative to the message. Encryption is most used among transactions over insecure channels of communication, such as the internet. Encryption is also used to protect data being transferred between devices such as mobile telephones, automatic teller machines (ATMs), and many more. Encryption can be used to create digital signatures, which allow a message to be authenticated. When properly implemented, a digital signature gives the recipient of a message reason to believe the message was sent by the claimed sender. 2. THREATS TO DATABASE 2.1 Database Databases are the ... • 6. Sexism In Video Games Video Games. Video Gaming has been a popular form of entertainment in modern pop culture since the early 1980 s. From the early beginnings of software producers such as Nintendo, they have been creating games that have become favorable classics in only a few decades. With the most popular classic video games including Super Mario Bros. (1985), Donkey Kong (1981), Pac Man (1980), and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (1998), we can quickly note some patterns. One of the patterns that we can note is all of the main playable protagonists within these games are male. The second pattern that we can note is the majority of the games listed above have a storyline written about rescuing a princess one of the only notable female characters within the game. Along with this, the female characters are only story advancing non playable characters (NPC s). When the online gaming community was first introduced and popularized in the early 2000 s, females in the gaming community quickly faced another obstacle; sexism. Anonymity within the gaming community has become more than a tactic to hide your identity. For the majority of female gamers in the gaming community, anonymity has become a crucial aid to avoid sexist comments and actions from other online players. According to a 2006 Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) report, women who were aged between 25 34 were out playing males during non console competitive gaming. Also from this report, we can note that in the UK women have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Immunizing Society Against Discrimination The themes of racism and growing up are significant in Harper Lee s novel To Kill A Mockingbird. Atticus Finch, a lawyer, is trying to defend a black man who has been falsely accused in a trial. His children Scout and Jem don t understand a lot of the racism occurring in the beginning, but slowly start to realize that people are being discriminated against and understand what they may be going through as they grow up and mature. How is discrimination infectious? It can influence the young by family and/or society. Atticus s children Scout and Jem, are brought up with the values of non discrimination and these values will help them go far in life. Through the characters of Scout and Jem, Harper Lee demonstrates that when growing up, people who are exposed to discrimination are encouraged to discriminate in return. Discrimination is contagious and harmful for the well being of the society. This book shows how the mad dog which symbolizes racism, can enter a town and spread over like a disease. Calpurnia phones Atticus and shouts There is a mad dog down the street (Lee 123). The mad dog is sick and diseased with rabies which represents racism that is about to enter the town and spread this disease. Just like how rabies is contagious, so is racism. When Atticus shoots the mad dog it is like he is shooting down racism and prevents this contagious disease from spreading over the town. Secondly, Miss Maudie shows how one small nutgrass can spread and ruin a whole yard which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I couldn t really think of any visuals except for the video. So at first I had music behind every point I had. Each song was planned appropriately for the topic of the point. Then, though, I knew that would be a hassle to deal with between points, especially because I was already over on my time. I estimated that I was around seven minutes. That was only in the beginning. The idea of the Great Leap Forward was the rapid growth of agricultural and industrial production. It focused on improving the productivity of all Chinese workers by investing in human development and labour intensive technology. Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officials believed it would bring about economic and technical development in great leaps rather than at a gradual pace. Government spending on heavy industry grew in 1958 to represent 56 percent of state capital investment, an increase from 38 percent in 1956. The backyard steel production plan resulted in entire forests being burned to fuel the smelters that melt metal 24 hours a day, which left the land open to erosion. Dense cropping and deep ploughing stripped the farmland and left if vulnerable as well. When the autumn of 1958 came, many areas had a bumper crop because the soil was not yet exhausted. This played a role in crop failures and eventually famine. With so much emphasis on steel output as well as on development of other small industries and building projects, people were pulled away from agriculture. Local leaders competed with one another to see who could create the most activity. In the rush to recruit labor, agricultural tasks were neglected, sometimes leaving the grain harvest to rot in the fields. Crop production began to falter. But Mao was adamant about increasing agricultural output, and communes were expected to meet high quotas or face punishment. In the frenzy of the competition, the CCP officers and many peasants exaggerated their harvests to their superiors in Beijing. There were claims that gigantic vegetables cabbages, cucumbers, tomatoes, and millions of pounds of potatoes and huge volumes of grain had been produced. Unpaved Roads In Ancient Rome The importance of the paved and unpaved roads leading out of the heart of Rome was crucial to the spread, advancement, and growth of the Empire from where the roads came from (Beers, World history: patterns of civilization, 1993, pp.115). These roads were built from about 300 BC through the expansion and consolidation of the Roman Republic and the Roman Empire (Forbes, Robert J. Studies in Ancient Technology. Leiden: Brill, 1993. Roads were also a visible indicator of the might of Rome, and they helped unify what was a vast melting pot of cultures, races, and institutions. The Roman road system spanned more than 400,000 km of roads, including over 80,500 km of paved roads. After the financial crisis, the government and the investors realized the importance of appropriate corporate credit rating. The government might tend to subsidize newly established rating organizations and create new regulations for credit rating in order to eliminate the oligopoly of three big financial agencies. KBRA benefits from such environment. Also, it is easier for small or new rating agencies like KBRA to apply a new revenue model under revised regulations. • 15. The Relationship Between Human Relations And Public Relations Human relations refers to everything we do with, for, and to each other as citizens and as human beings (Dempsey, 2014, pg. 330). An example is officers integrating ongoing training initiatives for departments to establish respect within communities, regardless of color, ethnicity, economic status or sexual orientation. Public relations is a strategic communication process that builds strong relationships between the public and organizations. The public relations approach reflects efforts to improve the public s perception of the police, by informing the public why departments and officers do what they do and enhancing their public image as first responders and community helpers. Community relations really ties both human relations and public relations together. Communities rely on police departments to protect and serve and the police, in turn, rely on community support and cooperation, but the relationship is not always harmonious (RAND, 2017). They could be either negative or positive, depending on the type of interaction. An example of this is by taking active interests in the community problems, participating in local government, or simply going to youth activities such as middle/high school events. Involvement in community programs and neighborhood projects can bring the citizens together with police by creating a purpose to build unity and show a more personable side of the police. 2. INNATE INTELLIGENCE We have seen that the essence or origin of all that exists is intelligence, and it is organized in similar patterns throughout the Universe. Therefore, we called it Universal Intelligence. By inference, we understand that this principle is not foreign or external to the universe, but that it is rather intrinsic, innate in all its manifestations, all phenomena of Life. Let s see what the definitions of the word innate tells us: that which exists inside ; that which is with ; native or natural ; that which is essential in nature . And the meaning of essential: what is in itself ; own and permanent identity . The essential nature of everything that exists, all beings, animated or inanimated, including Man, is therefore the Universal Intelligence, and we say that this is innate and gives them an identical essence that unites them despite their apparent or superficial difference. • 20. The Anasazi Indians It was during the time period that Christ was born that the Anasazi Indians appeared in the Four Corners area which is the area where the boundaries of Arizona, Utah, New Mexico and Colorado meet. For the over a thousand years the Anasazi thrived and built their homes into the side of cliffs. These cliff dwellings could only be reached by climbing and made for a great defense system against enemies; some dwellings reached five stories in height and contained hundreds of rooms. Many of the elaborate cliff dwellings and terraced apartment houses built of stone, mud, and wood that dot the Four Corners region still stand today and date back to about 9,000 CE., but the people who comprised this desert culture did not begin to settle into an agricultural lifestyle until around A.D. 400. The Anasazi, which is a Navajo word meaning the ancient ones , likely received corn, squash and beans, which are a prime source of protein, added to their diet and the knowledge to raise them from their southern neighbors in Mexico. Vegetable crops provided a reliable food source that made an increase in population possible and also allowed time for other interests such as religion, art, ritual, public works and handicrafts. This allowed the Anasazi society continued to evolve and progress. The ancient ones also possessed beans, a prime source of protein and new varieties of corn. In general use, Demand is a word that can have more than one meaning, but in microeconomics we define it more carefully so that it has only one meaning. Here is the definition: Definition: Demand Demand is the relationship between price and quantity demanded for a particular good and service in particular circumstances. For each price the demand relationship tells the quantity the buyers want to buy at that corresponding price. The quantity the buyers want to buy at a particular price is called the Quantity Demanded. The key point is to distinguish between demand (the relationship) and quantity demanded. Her father helped found Amherst College, where Emily later attended between 1840 and 1846. She never married and died in the house where she was born on May 15, 1886. Emily Dickinson s reclusive life was arguably a result of her proposed bi polar disorder. This life and disorder unduly influenced the themes of her poetry. In one of Dickinson s most famous poems, I heard a Fly buzz, the theme of death is presented as well as a symptomatic characteristic of bi polar disorder. The poem itself epitomizes her preoccupation with death and the macabre and also shows how the small, normally ignorable sound of a fly buzzing becomes the only thing heard, she magnifies this sound in a situation when it seems that everything else is much more important, but this inability to drown out extraneous noises is typical of someone suffering from manic depression. The form of this poem employs all of Dickinson s formal patterns: trimeter and tetrameter iambic lines, her specific use of the dash to interrupt the meter of the poem, and it is in ABCB rhyme scheme. Two of Dickinson s universal techniques are metaphor and the fresh application of language; both techniques result in powerful images, and can be seen in two of her poems that focus on nature themes, A Bird came down the Walk and narrow Fellow. Oftentimes, potential employees are more interested in the benefits a company provides than in the salary or compensation they will be receiving. Potential employees oftentimes desire healthcare or insurance plans and pension plans that will take care of them for the long term, not a short term benefit plan. In the past, employers often took a cookie cutter approach, offering the exact same benefits as every other company offered. Such an approach is no longer the norm, instead many companies now work hand in hand with their employees to design benefit plans that fit the employee s needs rather than the cheapest or most convenient benefit plan available. • 34. Essay about Black Holes If theories of their existence are true, black holes are the most powerful force in the known physical universe. Many people are familiar with the term black hole, but few people actually know anything about them. A black hole forms as a result of a massive star running out of fuel to burn (Chaisson, 193). Once the star is no longer exerting outward force by burning off gases, it begins to collapse under it s own intense, inward gravity (Chaisson, 193). It is like slowly letting the air out of a balloon. Once the star is compacted to a certain size, while it s mass, or weight, remains the same, it s gravity becomes so powerful that nothing can escape it (Hawking, 87). This critical size to weight ratio is known as the Schwarzchild Radius ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The simple formula for this, in physics, states that a body s escape velocity is equal to the square root of it s mass, divided by it s radius (Chaisson, 77). For example, if a body s mass is two hundred, and it s size is twelve and one half, the escape velocity would be four. If the size of the same body is reduced to two, while it s mass remained at two hundred, the escape velocity increases to ten. Since a black hole s size is always decreasing and it s weight is always the same, the escape velocity is infinite (Chaisson, 195). This means that nothing can escape a black hole past the event horizon, not even light. Light is made up of waves and particles. It was discovered, in 1676, by Danish astronomer, Ole Christenson, that light travels at a very high, but finite speed (Hawking, 18). These properties of light govern that it must be subject to forces of nature, such as gravity. Light travels at such a high speed that it is not observably effected by gravity, unless that gravity is very strong. A black hole s gravity is powerful enough to trap light because it s escape velocity, being infinite, exceeds the speed of light (Hawking, 82). This is why a black hole is black. Once light crosses the event horizon it is drawn into the hole in space. Although the light is still hitting objects, it is not able to bounce off to indicate their existence to an observer, ... Is Bicycling A Low Impact Exercise Bicycling is a low impact exercise that mainly utilizes the lower extremeties that can be beneficial to people ranging from a youthful child to an elderly individual. Using a pedal to ride a bike on a regular basis can increase muscle strength and flexibility (Better Health Channel, 2015). There are two different stages, the Power phase and the Recovery phase. To better understand these phases imagine a clock, most of the power happens between the 12 and 5 o clock position of the pedal stroke. This is when a majority of the primary muscles are activated. Hip flexion, along with hip and knee extension are the primary movements of a pedal stroke. The recovery stage begins between the 6 and 12 o clock position in the pedal revolution. There is some knee flexion to help bring the pedal back to the top but helping that flexion is the greater downward force being placed on the opposite pedal, by the opposite leg. The muscles that help return the foot to the top range from the hamstrings and calves at the bottom of the stroke, pulling the foot backwards, to the quadriceps at the top, lifting the foot and knee back to the 12 o clock position. Simply put, no new bodies are needed so only the best are accepted. Unfortunately, the number of recruiters or their assigned mission has not changed in the last seven years. There is the same number of recruiters in the field today as there was in 2005. They have to put in the same number of people today as they did in 2005. Whenever a player makes mistake, it was said that during halftime, he would stand in the middle of the room and loses it all out on that specific player. This treatment was particularly made famous by a spectacular bust up between himself and his star player, David Beckham. It was said that when Ferguson was about to start his hairdryer treatment, he accidentally kicked a boot right about Beckham s eye. The incident broke when Beckham wore a band to highlight his injury in the public. Their relationship then turned sour with Beckham moving to Real Madrid in the summer. In an article entitled Ferguson s Formula published by Harvard Business Review in its October 2013 issue by Professor Anita Elberse, it was highlighted that there are 8 main reasons that contributed to Ferguson s success that led to his fame. • 43. Summary Of A Good Man Is Hard To Find By Flannery OConnor Flannery O Connor often criticizes southern customs. Her writing often exemplifies her views that cast the south as a spiritual wasteland, overcrowded by people who preach and pride themselves on the premise that they are good Christians. She in turn, casts them as a God fearing people. They possess the ability to cast aside their beliefs when it suits them. These God fearing people, as portrayed in her writing, seemed to strive for some hollow form of respect, only obtainable under a false belief that, they deserved to be held in high regards. This leads to one of the main ideas on which Flannery O Conner bases her writing; the absence of God. Literary critic George Kilcourse argues, that O Connor portrays southerners of the time period as religious hypocrites, I agree with Kilcourse because, in A Good Man is Hard to Find, O Connor is able to illustrate how hypocritical people of holy demeanor truly are. Utilizing the characters of the Grandmother and The Misfit, O Connor is able to outline this hypocrisy, with the weaknesses and desire for redemption that is innate in nearly every human being, regardless of whether it s consciously known or not. The Grandmother is one of the first members of the family that O Connor introduces. O Connor depicts the Grandmother as lady like, wearing a dress with flowers pinned, white gloves, and a hat so that, in case of an accident, anyone seeing her dead on the highway would know at once that she was a lady (O Connor 8). • 44. Impact Of Slavery On The Indian Ocean Slavery in the Western Hemisphere has had an unmistakable impact on the the world and for those who live in the United States of America, it s impact is still seen today. For the most part this impact has been negative on the United States seeing as though it brought about immense racial tension between blacks and whites which is still today, crippling the nation. This type of slavery did not allow for upward mobility in the slave community. Seeing that Slavery across the Indian Ocean was not based upon race, and more upon social class and sexuality, there was more of a sense of upward mobility in the Indian Ocean slave trade than there was in the transatlantic slave trade which involved more brutal treatment based upon race. Today, slavery is known as one of the most inhumane acts of mankind. Slaves were brought over from their countries, mainly from the western and southern coast of Africa, to work for the Europeans without pay. Not only were they without pay, they were brought over in boats, packed on all decks of the ship in such a way that was comparable to a can of sardines. Slaves were taken and shipped to countries in South America and North America, to work on plantations to harvest plants such as, Tobacco, Cotton, Sugarcane, and Indigo. These slaves worked 20 hour days on these plantations and were rewarded with slave quarters which were in most cases in unlivable conditions. No matter what state of health a slave was in, they were expected to work ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. How Tragic Patters Grow Individual Characters In Othello Charlie Pena Professor Flick English 1B 14 November 2014 Othello: To Death Do Us In the play Othello by William Shakespeare we see tragic patters grow in individual characters such as the main protagonist Othello. Othello is a character of high stature who is destroyed by his surroundings, his own actions, and his fate. His destruction is essentially precipitated by his own actions, as well as by the actions of the characters surrounding him. Othello is an interesting character whose ability to utilize logic is greatly missing when he is led to believe that his wife has cheated on him. The reasoning behind the false belief is that Lago plotted the scenario of the handkerchief that was a gift to his Desdemona. The handkerchief was important to Othello because the handkerchief was a gift that was full of sentiment and meaning to Desdemona. Lago s wife. Amelia believed that the handkerchief might help her out with her relationship with Lago, her husband. Lago was not physically intimate with Amelia. Lago liked Desdemona and wanted her to himself. Fight Club Book Vs Movie Mason Witt Media and Film December 5, 2016 For my essay, I chose to compare Fight Club, by Chuck Palahniuk, published in 1996, with its movie counterpart of the same name, directed by David Fincher in 1999, starring Brad Pitt and Edward Norton. Overall, the movie was remarkably faithful to the novel, despite a few scenes being changed, likely to save an overly long runtime. Keeping that in mind, much of both the book and the movie was open to interpretation by the reader, which makes citing specific differences between the two stories difficult. The novel Fight Club is about (and narrated by) a raging insomniac that is never named, who finds that the only way that he can sleep at night is by sitting in on support groups for deadly diseases ... Analyze The Letters King Afonso Nzinga In the late fifteenth century the Portuguese were expanding its kingdom in Africa where it tapped into the existing gold and slave trades of the western Sudan and West Central Africa (Ehret 339).
