Argumentative Essay On Athens And Pericles
Athens was a major civilization located in ancient Greece. Athens was located on the ocean, which led
to it becoming a prominent trading center. The state was extremely wealthy with an extraordinary,
capable naval force. Women had no rights at all in Athens, so every one of the choices were made by
the men. The men of Athens had numerous obligations that they were required to perform for society
to run legitimately. Above all, they needed to take in every one of the qualities by which their society
taught them. Pericles believed that democracy exemplified a governmental system that gave every
citizen the right to vote, Xenophon opposes Pericles ideas and proclaims that the worst of people may
negatively affect the government, causing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He additionally glorified his people for the use of thought and deliberation on issues of significance.
Our public men have, besides politics, their private affairs to attend to, and our ordinary citizens,
though occupied . . . are still fair judges of public matters . . . instead of looking on discussion as a
stumbling block in the way of action, we think it an indispensable preliminary to any wise action at
all.
Xenophon, an ancient Greek writer, completely opposed the beliefs of Pericles. He explained the
various issues that arose in a democratic society. Xenophon resisted the idea that any person, no
matter his credibility, was given the same amount of power in the government system. Then there is a
point which some find extraordinary, that they everywhere assign more to the worst persons, to the
poor, and to the popular types than to the good men: in this very point they will be found manifestly
preserving their democracy. In this quotation, Xenophon refers to the fact

Short Essay On Dementia
Contrary to public belief, dementia is not one specific disease rather a range of symptoms that are
associated with cognitive decline and a reduction in a person s ability to remain active and
independent. There was a time when dementia was referred to as senility or having senior moments,
but these monikers suggest that dementia is a normal part of aging, and this concept simply isn t
accurate.
Alzheimer s disease accounts for up to 80% of all dementia cases closely followed by vascular
dementia, which typically occurs after a stroke. Dementia may also be caused by vitamin deficiencies
and thyroid problems. These last two types are reversible in nature.

It s important to note that signs and symptoms of dementia can ... Show more content on

It s important to mention that brain health can also be impacted by frequent blood sugar spikes. For
this reason a diet low in sugar, especially processed sugars and refined flours, is important to maintain
proper glucose levels.
And finally, some good news for coffee lovers, caffeine has been found to be effective in preventing
Alzheimer s disease. This does not mean you need to consume cups and cups of it every day. Just one
two to cups will bring benefits.
Keep Learning
You know the old phrase use it or lose it, well this applies to your brain as well. It s incredibly
important to keep your brain active as you age. Consider learning a new language or how to play a
new instrument, read more, do the crossword puzzle, or play computer games. Heck, try to write that
novel you always wanted to write, just be sure to keep your brain challenged and stimulated

The Effect Of Hyperglycemia On The Brain
It has been long recognized that children with diabetes mellitus onset before age 5 yr have permanent
neurocognitive dysfunction more commonly than aged matched or sibling peers . A recent study
showed that children with diabetes onset before age 7 yr had reduced intellectual performance and
mild central brain atrophy in adulthood when compared with individuals with similar duration of
diabetes but later onset . Because both hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia occur in young children with
type 1 diabetes, it is unlikely that hypoglycemia is the primary cause of this recognized but little
publicized reduction in cognitive function associated with childhood type 1 diabetes in children.
Hyperglycemia is known to adversely affect peripheral nerve structure and function in younger (3 6
months) but not in older rats. Physical and functional damage to peripheral nerves associated with
diabetes is related to increased activity of the polyol pathway . The polyol pathway is a minor pathway
of glucose metabolism that increases the intracellular content of the polyol sorbitol in response to
increased extracellular glucose concentrations. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This form of protection of the brain from hyperglycemia would reduce the influence of hyperglycemia
on the brain as well as limit the influence of the preceding extrapolations of the polyol pathway

therefore necessary to determine the long term effects of hyperglycemia on brain

Similarities And Differences Between The Scottish And...
Even though there are many similarities between the Scottish and Irish cultures, there are also many
differences. For one, the Scottish have trouble defining what Scottish culture is, this is because they
joined the UK at a very early time. Because of this, much of Scottish culture has joined together with
English culture. This could be seen when we were walking around Glasgow and saw many English
Art and sculptures, as well as walking around the Holyrood house in Edenborough. And now that
Scotland may break away from England, the people cling to fantasy and mystery, as well as their own
accomplishments to create and define Scottish culture. In Glasgow, the Peoples Palace displayed many
accomplishments of the cities people, all stating that they were the first to invent this and the first to
do that. Instead of looking back, the city showed how it was progressive and urged its people to move
forward. In Edenborough, the tour guide talked about how they were the first to invent skyscrapers
and other architecture. Instead of talking about how the country moved forward as a whole, each city
talked about how they moved forward and the people in it. Scotland has also clung to many
mythological and fantasy ideals. For one, the national animal of Scotland is the Unicorn, which is a
mythological creature. Also, during the ghost tour I took around Edenborough, the Scottish believe
that they invented Halloween and the city is filled with ghost stories. Even in the north, Loch

Alexander The Great Accomplishments
Alexander the Great has many historical accomplishments during his reign from 336BCE 323 BCE.
During his lifetime, Alexander has completed many long conquests and gained victory in vital wars
which impacted the growth of his kingdom. His accomplishments also set a guide for the Hellenistic
empire that followed in the region after his death. Alexander the Great, is the son of the Macedonian
King Philip II. After King Philip II was assassinated in 336 BCE, Alexander quickly took the throne
when he was only 20 year old. Many Greeks revolted claiming that he was too young to rule. As a
result, Alexander rushed to get in power by finishing his rebels and uniting all the Greek city states
under his rule. The city states of Thebes were the most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alexander had appointed his father s experienced general Antipater as in command while he away on
his conquest, leaving him with 9,000 infantries and 1,500 cavalries to maintain control over
Macedonia s territories in Europe. During the spring of 334 BCE. One of the key battles fought in his
conquest was the Battle of Granicus River which occurred on May 334 BCE. It was fought near the
city of Troy and the first of three major battles that was fought between Alexander and the Persian
Empire. Alexander s army faced the Persians on the third day of May from Abydos. Parmenion, the
second in command of Alexander, suggested crossing the river upstream and attacking at dawn the
next day, but Alexander attacked immediately. This tactic caught the Persians off guard. The
Macedonian had special way of attacking. The phalanx tactic to attack consisted of a line that was
arrayed with the heavy combat soldiers in the middle, and cavalry on either side. The Persians
expected that the main assault would come from Alexander s position and moved units from their
center to that flank. The total casualties for the Greeks were between 300 and 400. Likewise, the
Persians had 1,000 cavalries and 3,000 infantry killed. After being victorious in the battle, Alexander
buried the Persian commanders and the Greek mercenaries who were killed fighting on the side of the
enemy. Alexander commanded his men to take all the surviving prisoners and sent them away to

Abolishing Death Penalty
The future of the death penalty lies unclear in the cross country battle over whether or not it should be
abolished. The death penalty should in fact be abolished because of the extreme costs and painful time
involved to house and execute inmates, the indecision of which method of execution is the most
humane, and the increasing number of innocent inmates being wrongfully executed.
The number of death sentences peaked at about 315 in 1996, but last year dropped to only 73. In
addition, the number of prisoners on death row dropped 17% from 3,593 in 2000, to 3,000 in
2015(Wolf and Johnson 1). Despite this rapid decline in the amount of death sentences and prisoners
awaiting execution, 31 states still retain the death penalty, with only seven ... Show more content on

is that no states are seeking to reinforce the death penalty. For example, California houses 25% of the
nation s 3,000 death row prisoners and the $137 million dollars the state spends on maintaining capital
punishment has led to the states disliking. One aspect of capital punishment that has displeased
average American citizens is all the attention on death row prisoners, making rock stars out of killers.
Many believe the money and attention should be spent on more serious issues like disease or poverty
or even on the struggling families of the victims. However, the crime rate jumped 122% from 1963 to
1980, and maybe that is why capital punishment is needed. The fear of being executed will diminish
the amount of murders and crimes in the country, and that if we protect guilty lives then innocent lives
will be given up in exchange. But by reinforcing the death penalty, innocents could be wrongly
executed. Take for example Anthony Ray Hinton. Hinton spent 30 years on Alabama s death row after
being convicted for two murders at age 29. But due to a defense lawyer s mistakes in 1985, he was
granted a new hearing and was found innocent. After being freed he said, I spent 30 years on death
row for something I didn t do. This supports my argument in that if all this time and money is spent on
protecting the death penalty to come to a clear verdict, than there should never be a wrong conviction.
The risk of wrongful convictions is greater if the

Why I Want For An Id For A Purchase Or A Withdrawal
As I have been in the retail business for over fifteen years, I have seen and heard it all. We are always
told the customer is always right, and do whatever it takes to make them happy. However, as I got
older and wiser, I concluded you are not always right and no matter what you do you will not make
them happy. I have noticed many do not like to be asked for any form of identification, do not count
their change, and some like to blame employees. When you are asked for an ID, it is for your
protection. I never understood why customers would get so upset when I would ask them for an ID for
a purchase or a withdrawal. As I started working the Service Desk at Jewel I was not familiar with all
the clients, I would always ask for an ID for sizably voluminous purchase amount or cash
withdrawals. As I try to protect my company from any losses, many of them disliked the fact I did not
know who they were. My very first day behind the Service Desk, I was by myself; I had a client
wanting to cash a check over three thousand dollars. My natural response was to ask for an ID. She
immediately threw her hands on her waist and verbally expressed, You don t know who I am? I tried
explaining to her I was new here, and I am still being acquainted with all the clients. She wanted to
speak to a manager and complain about me. My initial thought was why would she be so bothered and
upset by this? I am only trying to protect her. Why am I wrong on this? Therefore, I asked her

Dangers In Norman Podhoretz s Looking Back AtCatch 22
However, the possible dangers are not limited to ones pertaining to physical injury. An example of this
is Yossarian s conversation with an italian family who is told that Yossarian is their dying son, wincing
and feel[ing] sick at his barefaced lie (Heller 184 185). This scenario serves as a broad implication of
moral loss and danger faced by soldiers. Their lives affect those around them and their families, and
their decisions can also weigh on their conscience. They also rely on each other, and occasionally may
form emotional ties amid all of the superficial relationships, putting a part of their soul at risk.
Reinforcing this assertion that all these conflicts are legitimate fears, Norman Podhoretz in his article
Looking Back at Catch 22 agrees that Yossarian s paranoia... [is] not a disease but a sensible response
to real dangers (Podhoretz 5). Podhoretz s assertion that Yossarian s paranoia, while humorous in its
absurdity, is legitimate illustrates the danger inherent in the common facets of everyday life,
establishing the tumultuous atmosphere in the novel. After this, Heller makes the conflict between
Yossarian much more relatable to the reader by adding in personal enemies and personal struggles to
show the individual applicability of the chaotic uncaring nature of life. The first enemy of Yossarian
embodied in an individual person is Colonel Cathcart. Thinking of ways to reduce negative
perceptions and boost commendations to himself, Cathcart decides

Fibroids Case Study
The success of this treatment depends on the signal intensity of the fibroids on the T2 weighted
images. Fibroids with a smaller percentage of non enhancing tissue tend to produce high signal
intensities on T2 weighted imaging compared to myometrium. Fibroids with higher percentages of
non enhancing tissue and signal intensities similar to skeletal muscle or brighter than skeletal muscle
but lower than myometrium tend to have a higher shrinkage percentage after six months. Studies show
that patients with high intensity fibroids are not considered good candidates for this procedure
(Hesley, Gorny, Woodrum, 2012). As mentioned earlier scars or metal in the abdomen can absorb or

Life Without Principle By Henry David Thoreau
In one of his Transcendentalist essays, Life Without Principle, Henry David Thoreau addresses his
personal issues within society and explains the solutions to those issues. Throughout the essay,
Thoreau argues that society as a whole is on a decline. In order to prove this deterioration of society
Thoreau assumes that the best situation transpires when people work for pleasure instead of money,
nature is preserved instead of destroyed, and the daily times phased out. If the society is not
participating in these practices, the society is therefore in a state of deterioration, or already has
deteriorated. Out of Thoreau s claims, some side with my personals conclusions, and others conflict.
Therefore it can be deduced that Thoreau has a multitude of beliefs, and with each belief, a different
level of relevancy to the reader. If a reader was to agree with all of Thoreau s points, he or she may
find themselves somewhat detached from society and placing less emphasis on monetary objects, but
in no way in a poor situation. If a reader was to disagree with all of Thoreau s points, there would be a
worse consequence: he or she could find themselves unhappy, focused on wealth and insubstantial
events, and without care for the environment. Individual thought is required to interpret the many
messages presented by Thoreau and find the proper equilibrium between the thoughts of Thoreau s
and those of personal origination. Thoreau believes that in the best scenario, people would work

Societal Stressors Essay
Societal stressors
Societal stressors are defined as factors that capture the discrimination and difficulties associated with
being undocumented, including the fear of deportation and possible separation from their kids
(Arbona et al., 2010; Perreria et al., 2006). When looking at the research done on acculturation, very
few studies looked specifically into societal factors affecting undocumented parents. The studies that
did look at societal stressors focused solely on discrimination and its effects on immigrants. Knowing
the English language for immigrants is not just about having the language skills, but also being
linguistically integrated into the U.S. since there are sets of social requirements, laws, and
propositions that enforce the acquisition of the dominant language (Leuck and Wilson, 2010). When
using the National Latin and Asian American Study (NLAAS), Leuck and Wilson (2010) found that
language acquisition is seen as an enforced civic duty. For immigrants, keeping their ethnic language
often is devalued and seen as a threat by society and thus they experience greater language based
discrimination (Leuck and Wilson, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Comparison Of Jim Crow Laws And Mass Incarceration In The...
In The New Jim Crow, Michelle Alexander maps out the parallels between the old Jim Crow system
and the new racial caste system of mass incarceration. There are many profound similarities between
these two systems, such as historical parallels, closing the courthouse doors, and racial segregation.
There are many historical parallels between Jim Crow laws and mass incarceration. Both of these
systems were made due to a desire among white elites to exploit the resentments, vulnerabilities, and
racial bias of poor and working class whites for political or economic gain (Alexander 191).
Segregation laws were made to deflect social tensions from whites to blacks. Another example is
making laws more discriminative. In the Jim Crow era whites competed by passing harsher laws to
keep blacks in prisons. Currently legislators looking to make drug laws harsher to incarcerate more
blacks and latinos. The most obvious parallel between the Jim Crow laws and mass incarceration is
the legalization of discrimination. During the Jim Crow era blacks were denied the right to vote by
poll taxes, literacy tests, and grandfather clauses. The fifteenth amendment states the rights of citizens
of the United States to vote should not be denied on the account of race, color or previous condition of
servitude (Alexander 192). African Americans were not able to pay poll taxes or pass literacy tests, yet
if a white male could not pass these hurdles he could still possibly be able to vote due to the

Persuasive Essay On How To Keep Dogs Safe In The Winter
No matter how much your pets may enjoy playing in the snow, they are still susceptible to a number
of risks including frostbite and hypothermia. Keep your favorite furry friends safe this winter with
these simple tips.
Bundle up and keep those furs on
Regardless of how beautiful and thick our beloved pets furs are, they won t totally keep off the cold.
For the same reason that mountain climbers can get hypothermia no matter what type of protective
clothing they are wearing, mammalian systems for heat retention and regulation can be overwhelmed
by excessive cold, Oregon veterinarian Marla J. McGeorge, DVM, told WebMD.
If you plan on taking your dogs out for a walk, keep them safe and warm by making them wear
sweaters before bracing the bitter cold. Meanwhile, cat lovers are advised not to let their furry friends
out during the winter season, as their fur coat only works when it s dry and they probably won t
tolerate wearing pet clothes for extra protection.
Wipe off those paws
While sprinkling salt on your pavement is a great idea to melt those ice, they are also harming your
pet s paws.
WebMD says that salt spread on the sidewalks actually burns the pads of your pooch s feet.
Furthermore, they also cause digestive problems when licked off.
Dr. Rebecca Ruch Gallie, service chief for the Colorado State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital
s community practice suggests wiping your dog s paws after a walk and rinsing them as soon as

Geography In David Foster s Life
In this chapter, Foster explains how geography is more than just hills, streams, and grasslands it brings
history along with it, and has the ability to shape a character s actions and personality. In addition, he
alludes to the Russians; a people whose toughness and tenacity in defending their homeland matched
the merciless elements (Foster 173), in order to show how the geography, or place, a person lives in
can affect their overall being. Foster claims that geography can also define or even develop character

A General Overview of Ecstasy 3,4 Methylenedioxymethamphetamine, better known by its street
name, ecstasy or molly, is a type of illegal, synthetic drug that is typically found in the form of pills,

Among the ages ranging from 18 to 25, about 25 percent of them have admitted they have used the
drug at least once in their lifetime (Lesley, W. R. et al., 2007). These drugs are typically used at
nightclubs and raves, but recently, due to its popularity, it can be more commonly found in homes for

more negative outcomes than positive. Over time its positive effects have been proven wrong, and

The V 6 engine is aptly suited for this vehicle. It is the same engine FCA uses to power such models as
the Ram 1500, Jeep Grand Cherokee, and the Dodge Charger. No boosting is necessary just step on
the gas pedal and the engine roars to life. I m sure some of the rumbling emanating from the exhaust
system is artificial, but at least the performance is there to back it up as the minivan climbs to highway
speed quickly and without hesitation.
How would the Pacifica perform with a full payload and pushing the minivan to its 3,600 pound
towing capacity? I never found out as four was the maximum number of people carried at any time
and I had nothing to tow. But at least the capacity is there and it gives customers something to
consider that isn t a crossover (Dodge Durango) or a pickup truck (Ram 1500).
The 2017 Pacifica rides quietly and road noise is minimal. On the noise, vibration, and harshness
(NVH) scale, this vehicle gets high marks thanks in part to its standard active noise cancellation
technology. It also scores well in the handling, steering, and braking

The Impact Of Securitization Techniques On Commercial...
The most influential person in my life, my dad, always tells me how in order for me to be able to live
the American dream, I have to work like there is somebody trying twenty four hours a day to take it all
away from me. He also mentions that a college degree is crucial to the American dream, and is worth
all the financial sacrifices for the reason that it will open all doors to a world of opportunities. Armed
with this bit of philosophy, I graduated with a cum laude from Pace University in Quantitative
Business Analysis, minor in Mathematics and achieved a major GPA that placed me in the top of my
class. In order for myself to become the expert that others rely upon and achieve my careers goals, I
must continue my studies.
My job placement at Barclay`s since august of 2015 had fortified my interest in the areas of finance as
I am able to experience the impact of securitization techniques in Commercial Mortgages Backed

Huck Finn Education Analysis
In the 1840s the United States of America was divided by two things, slavery and the Mississippi. In
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, Huck and Jim travel on a raft on the Mississippi
River, hoping to reach Cairo, where Jim would be a free man. While on the river, the motif of
education arises as Huck is forced to learn how to trick and deceive in order to keep Jim safe. Huck
uses the river as a safe place where he is floating away from the troubles that lie on the shore. The
river bridges the gaps between the levels of society as Huck travels from community to community
experiencing each individual class. The Mississippi provides Huck with an education, a home, and a
bridge but also forces him into becoming an entirely new person who we, a century and a half later,
look up to. The motif of education is prevalent especially because Huck never received one. Lauriat
Jane Jr. best describes this concept in his article Why Huckleberry Finn Is a Great World Novel , he
says The novel is a novel of education. Its school is the school of life rather than of books, but Huck s
education is all the more complete for that reason (Lane 2). Instead of a formal education, he learns
from his experiences especially when it comes to deception. Huck learns that being quick with words
is one of the most crucial skills that he will need for his journey. Huck shows his cunning in many
instances, from disguising himself as a girl to making others think that Jim is his smallpox

Why Did The Failure Of The Articles Of Confederation
The Declaration of Independence was a fight the colonies knew they were going to win. The sense of
patriotism was running wild through the new world for almost everyone. There were still a few
supporters of the king after the war and although they wanted to hold onto the ideals of the British,
they understood there was change occurring throughout the country. Many states had adopted a
constitution and they had an easier time than that of the country. The search for a national government
was a trying time for most of the colonies and it would prove more difficult with each passing day. As
the states ratified their constitutions, they began to think of themselves as sovereign nations.
Continental Congress wanted the colonies to act and be treated as a nation. They adopted the Articles
of Confederation in 1777. It provided a central government; however, they could only conduct wars,
issue money, provide foreign relations and levy taxes for example. There was not a president per say,
because at that time it was just the presiding officer at sessions of Congress. There was an issue with
the ratification process between the large and small states. The larger states wanted ... Show more

Optimization Of Software Based Systems Agile Modeling
ABSTRACT:
For the effective product based methodology and for the documentation of software based systems
Agile modeling is the best practice. Whereas agile modelling is collection of the values and the
practices of the software modelling which can he applied in a software development project in a most
effective manner. I would like take this paper as medium and discuss the goals and the scope for the
Agile modeling. The main concentrations is about the two approaches of software development i.e
Agile Model driven development (AMDD) and the Test Driven Development (TDD). And also the
steps of the software development topics are discussed.

communication,
simplicity,
feedback,
courage and humility
The success of the agile modeling lies between the better communication between the customers and
the software developers. This better communication leads for the good understanding in the modeling
phase about the requirements of the customers. So, this will helps to meet the needs of the
stakeholders. And having the feedback on the work is very important. And also humility by letting
others also to add the value to the project efforts.
Principles:
Modeling should be simple.
Should be quick in changes because requirements of the customers will change over time.
Changes should be made for enable agility.
As mention above feedback should be taken on the work to meet the needs of the stakeholders.
Start the model with a purpose and take and refer multiple models for the effective development.
Representation is very important than content.
Modeler should have knowledge about the tools.
Focus is need for the better quality of work.

Ethnographic Analysis Of Apple Airpod
The production of a box is very difficult and complicated. It all depends on what you are shipping and
where you are shipping it to. If you are shipping a big heavy item you will need a big sturdy box if
you are shipping a product far distance you may need something like a crate. It all depends on the size.
Box dimensions are displayed as: Length x Width x Depth that determines how big or small the box
may be.
For example let s say Amazon® ships a smartphone to me I ll have to measure the smartphones length
width and depth and multiply them all together to get the total area of the phone. I ll use the
measurements of the new Iphone X the height is 5.65 inches the width is 2.79 inches and the depth is
0.30 inches. These are the total measurements ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That s just the phone you have to leave space for the wall charger and AirPods. The measurements of
the Apple Airpods are 1.74 by 0.84 by 2.11 inches. The area of the Apple Airpods are 3 inches
squared. The measurements for the wall charger are 1.62 x 1.3 x 0.81 and the area is 2 inches squared.
Now that we have found the area of all the items in the box we have to add all of the areas of the other
items like wall charger and AirPods plus the phone itself. When these are all added this will determine
what the total area is. When all the areas are added up you ll get 10 inches squared as the area of the
box. No that the area is found we can determine how expensive or inexpensive the boxes might me.
The fact that Apple ships hundred of thousands of Iphone X s a day are crucial because the boxes cost
money too that means that they spend millions of dollars on boxing a year which means they have to
make an affordable safe box that won t break the phone in shipping or have the box get damaged too
quickly. If they make the boxes to expensive it can lead to Apple losing more money than they earn.
One way Apple makes the Iphone ten box an inexpensive box by keeping all of the items tight in. That
means there will be no use for extra foam or other excessive items to keep the phone from breaking or

Psychodynamic Counselling Overview Essay
Psychodynamic Counselling Overview.
Psychodynamic counselling has a long history and vast literature to condense so only a brief overview
is possible here following on from the themes already discussed and with particular focus on four
psychologists: Freud, Jung, Adler and Klein.
The primary purpose of psychodynamic counselling is to help clients make sense of current situations;
of memories associated with present experience, some of which spring readily to mind, others which
may rise to consciousness as the counselling develops; and of the images that appear in fantasies and
dreams. (Jacobs)

So it is possible to say I don t like her behaviour which is about a relationship in the external world or
to say I don t feel like my usual self today which suggests a relationship between two parts of the self,
the dynamic of the internal world.
Great importance is attached to past experiences and feelings. Aspects (objects) of the psyche develop
in parallel with external relationships in childhood, i.e., with mother and father. In addition, the
childhood perception of experiences, feelings and relationships may not match reality, so such
perceptions are significant.
Object relations theory
A third type of relationship is added to those of the outer and inner worlds, to non human objects.
The activity is going on all the time, but is increased in some circumstances in stressful and anxious
times, in dreams.
The Unconscious
Freud identified the unconscious, the preconscious and the conscious in terms of mental activity.
Within the unconscious are thoughts, experiences and feelings which are not easily accessible but
which have great influences on the current mental activity in the conscious. Memories, half forgotten,
but easy to access offer a route to the unconscious, thus belonging to the preconscious.
Feelings such as grief and anger can remain in the unconscious and remain unexperienced and

Market Failure in the Economy
Ans: An economic term that encompasses a situation where, a common resource in any given market,
the quantity of a product demanded by consumers does not equate to the quantity supplied by
suppliers. This is a direct result of a lack of certain economically ideal factors, which prevents
equilibrium (Market Failure 2013). Market failures have negative effects on the economy because an
optimal allocation of resources is not attained. In other words, the social costs of producing the good
or service (all of the opportunity costs of the input resources used in its creation) are not minimized,
and this results in a waste of some resources. Market work well when prices reflect all values.
Market Failure occurs when some costs and/or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This occurs because there are insufficient incentives to encourage profit seeking firms to enter a
market. This is commonly the case with pure public goods, such as street lighting, for which there is a
need, but private individuals would not be prepared to pay. If no one is prepared to pay, no revenue
can be derived, and no profit earned; hence no firm would enter the market.
A partial failure can occur in four ways:
When some, but not all, of the necessary conditions for market formation exist. This means that
markets form, but will fail to develop and supply sufficient quantities of a good or service. In the case
of merit goods, such as education, markets are inefficient because they under supply these goods, and
fail to meet society s demand.
When free markets over supply a good or service, either because producers fail to take into account
the full costs of production to society, or because consumers fail to take into account the full costs of
consumption to themselves, or society. Externalities and demerit goods are cases of free markets over
supplying.
Where there is a breakdown in self regulation, as in the case of the financial crisis.
Where a market becomes highly unstable and fails to return quickly to a stable equilibrium, as in the
case of some commodity markets.
Some economists argue that all market failures are, in some way, the result

Painful facial and oral conditions are common reasons for patients to visit their physicians. Although
much of what we know about facial analgesia stems from the dental literature, it is easily extrapolated
to the family practice or urgent care setting. Even a basic understanding of dental and facial
neuroanatomy can be extremely useful.
Regional anesthesia allows infiltration of a peripheral nerve with a local anesthetic agent in order to
block sensory input. Although direct wound infiltration (local anesthesia) is safe and commonly used,
regional anesthesia, or nerve blocks , are advantageous in that they usually causes minimal discomfort,
are better tolerated than local anesthesia and often require the use of less of the anesthetic agent. ...

Twin Personality Traits
Personality is a combination of people s genetics, forces in their environments, and the life choices
they make. A person s personality is their characteristic thoughts, emotional responses, and behaviors.
While personality traits are patterns of thought, emotion, and behavior that is relatively consistent over
time and across situations. When you get to know some you start to predict how they are going to
react to certain situations. These predications are dispositions (Gazzaniga, Heatherton, Halpern).
There is evidence that personality comes from biological factors, such as genes, brain structure, and
neurochemistry) but environmental factors determine if they prevail. James Loehlin did a study on
twin personalities. He determined that identical twins personalities are more similar than fraternal
twins because they share similar genes. Loehlin also found that parenting style has little to do with the
personality of twins. He discovered this by observing twins who grew up in separate families
(Gazzaniga, Heatherton, Halpern). Temperaments are biologically based tendencies to feel or act in

Evaluation Of Water Related Climate Change Adaptation...
The aim of this research is to develop a set of indicators for monitoring and evaluation of water related
climate change adaptation interventions at the local community level in Thai Binh province. This will
help authorities at high levels, NGO officers, local residents and other beneficiaries as they can
evaluate the effectiveness of water related interventions. The robust indicators will help to adjust the
adaptation targets for given times, to ensure the accountability to stakeholders, to provide evidence for
the effects of intervention, to motivate all partners, to fundraise, and to reveal the shortcomings in the
implementation of water related adaptation interventions {Hobson, 2014 #328}.
This research will apply the sustainable livelihood framework and the local community participation
to develop the indicators. The sustainable livelihood framework approach will consider
comprehensively and scientifically the livelihood components of local residents. The authorities at the
higher levels, therefore, can more easily listen to and understand the local voices and have much more
respect and corporation with the local residents. In addition, the local community participation
methods will reveal the local residents perspectives of their needs, priorities and visions. The local
residents will also be able to understand the effects of adaptation interventions, to gain the skills in
observation of changes and to improve their adaptive capacity to adverse impacts of climate

Arguments Against Humanitarian Intervention
Humanitarian intervention is a doctrine that advocates the opportunity to send humanitarian relief and
international armed forces to help the victims of natural disasters or violations of human rights without
the consent of the State concerned. The objective is to rescue, assist, assist and protect people in
danger. This idea has appeared on the occasion of the Biafran War (1967 1970) which resulted in a
terrible famine, but had been ignored by other States in the name of neutrality and non interference.
The term humanitarian intervention was invented in the late 1980s by Bernard Kouchner, founder of
Doctors Without Borders and politician, and Mario Bettati, Professor of Public International Law.
According to them, some emergencies can morally justify a duty to intervene in the affairs of a state,
thus calling into question the principle of sovereignty. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Crawford and Campbell (1999) found that common definitions of weight differ drastically from
medically accepted BMI values. In this study, 1342 participants (666 men and 676 women) completed
surveys in which they defined ideal weight and the term overweight. The average BMI value that
women considered ideal was 22.7 and the average ideal BMI value for men was 24.9. Medically, a
BMI value of 25 is considered overweight. In the study, however, women defined an average BMI
value of 23.7 as overweight and men defined an average BMI value of 26.1 as overweight. The BMI

Bulimia nervosa is an eating disorder distinguished by its psychological, physiological,

by harmful compensatory behaviors, such as abuse of laxatives, diuretics or enemas, stimulants,

How The Design Of Respiratory System Facilitates Gas...

DESCRIBE HOW THE DESIGN OF RESPIRATORY SYSTEM FACILITATES GAS EXCHANGE?
The most vital phenomenon of life is respiration. Without respiration life is impossible. Respiratory
System, consisting of a number of organs in human body which is taking the function of respiration.
These organs include mouth, nasal passage, glottis, trachea, larynx, pharynx, bronchi, bronchioles,
alveoli and last but not the least the LUNGS. Other supporting orangs are ribs, intercostal muscles,
diagram and cilia.
In the following lines, we ll discuss in detail about these organs and their functions and how the design
of whole RESPIRATORY SYSTEM facilitates gaseous exchange.
The respiratory system is a group of organs that work together to bring the exchange of oxygen and
carbon dioxide into and from the blood. Its main function is to transport oxygen into the body and the
excrete carbon dioxide out of the body. Respiration can occur at two separate levels, the level of the
cell (internal respiration) and the level of the organism (external respiration). Internal respiration is the
exchange of gases between the blood and body cells. External respiration, more commonly known as
breathing, is the exchange of gases between the air and the blood in the lungs.
The respiratory system can be divided into two parts, the upper and the lower respiratory tracts. The
upper respiratory tract consists of the organs which lie outside the chest cavity and these include: the
nasal cavity, the pharynx, the larynx

Once hospitalized, SC was enrolled in the Early Psychosis Intervention (EPI) Program. This pilot
provides timely treatment for individuals under 25 who are newly diagnosed, or have untreated
psychosis (Vancouver Coastal Health, 2016). SC met these criteria. EPI is based on the idea that if
psychosis is recognized and treated early, interventions can limit the potential for ongoing negative
consequences (BC Early Psychosis Intervention Program, 2016). Although this was SC s fourth
hospitalization, this was her first time on the EPI. By not being treated effectively on her first
admission, her chances of success were reduced. A substantial barrier for EPI is a client s delay, or
refusal to access services (BC Schizophrenia Society, 2012). SC had not been ready to accept
treatment during previous admissions. Lappin et al. (2016) also argue that there needs to be available
services specifically for young adults early in their illness that also have particular interventions for
drug related psychosis. This addictions component is not specifically addressed in the current EPI
model. However, it specifically targets young adults.
As well as additional monitoring of EPI, SC was being stabilized through medications. Her
pharmaceutical interventions included suboxone to treat substance dependence, gabapentin as a mood
stabilizer, olanzepine for psychosis and zopiclone for insomnia (Vallerand, Sanoski, Deglin, 2015).
However, only offering abstinence rather than a harm

Maryland V. King Case Study
Case Briefing Maryland v. King
I. Facts
The Maryland DNA Collection Act (MDCA) gave the state and police officers permission to collect
DNA specimens from people who are detained for a violent crime, an attempt to conduct a violent
crime, breaking and entering, or attempted to break and enter. Police arrested Alonzo Jay King, Jr. was
on first and second assault charges. While he was under arrest before his sentence, King s DNA was
collected and documented in Maryland s DNA file. King s DNA to matched a rape case that was never
solved. This evidence was the only evidence that ties King to the rape. Furthermore, King went to trial
and the judge sentenced him to life in prison.
II. Procedure History
The Maryland Court of Appeals then reversed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
V. Application/ Analysis
King appealed his case, stating that the Maryland DNA Collection Act violated the Fourth
Amendment, meaning he is secure from unreasonable searches and seizures. Maryland DNA
Collection Act is legitimate and the Fourth Amendment allows the police to have the right to draw
blood, and scrape underneath fingernails, and use a breathalyzer test for the lungs.
VI. Conclusion
The Court apprehended that conducting a DNA buccal test as a part of the arrest process and it does
not violate the Fourth Amendment because the test serves from a state that does not require a warrant
for a search. The Court apprehended that determining an arrestee s character and criminal background
is an essential part of the arrest process and that a DNA test is just as lawful as fingerprinting.
Determining a suspect s criminal background serves the legitimate state interest of determining what
level of risk the person positions in the community and what circumstances should be established on
his or her discharge from

Compare And Contrast Illinois State University
Nelson Mandela once said, Education is one of the most powerful weapons that you can use to change
the world. To change the world is why I want a good college education, so for the last few months I
have been visiting colleges that I was considering to transfer to, Illinois State University(my top
choice), Eastern Illinois University(my second choice), and Western Illinois University(my 3rd
choice). I chose to highlight the major differences between Illinois State University and Western
Illinois University just to show how much they contrast. I selected to attend Illinois State University
because it exceeds Western Illinois University in three ways which are, Campus/Location, academics,
and the atmosphere.
Illinois State University has a better city and campus than Western Illinois University. On my way
going into campus of Illinois State ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Something that really sold me on the atmosphere at Illinois State University, was how many people
there was and how they presented a more serene environment. On the other hand, Western Illinois
University had an abundantly rigid atmosphere and I felt like it wasn t good for me. Walking around
the Illinois State University campus there were numerous people I saw that were wearing the Illinois
State University colors, and that showed me they had pride in their school. By the same token,
Western Illinois University did not have a large number of people who were wearing the school colors
which struck me as odd because the majority of the colleges that I have visited had a myriad of people
in their school colors. The atmosphere at Illinois State University seemed more active to me which I
felt would give me an academic edge that could push me over the top. Western Illinois University did
not really make me feel like I could do well there. At the end of the day I went with what I felt was the

Reflection On Solution Focused Brief Therapy
My approach to counseling: This was an issue that I had to face very cautiously. The client was a
friend that I loved and I had to put our relationship aside so that I would not be bias in counseling her.
My goal for the first session was ease the client s fears of communicating her marital issues to
someone outside of her marriage. Even though this client was very lively and animated, she was very
private in regard to this relationship with Marc. My particular approach/theory of counseling during
this session was Solution Focused Brief Therapy. My goal for the second session

Wuthering Heights Displacement Quotes
Displaced
The first theme is that of displacement. After reading a majority of Wuthering Height there is a lot
involving people who have been displaced. Our first example of this would be when Mr.Earnshaw
brings back Heathcliff to Wuthering Heights The master tried to explain the matter; but he was really
half dead with fatigue, and all that I could make out, amongst her scolding, was a tale of his seeing it
starving, and houseless, and as good as dumb, in the streets of Liverpool, where he picked it up and
inquired for its owner. (Bronte, p.38) From this quote we can see that Heathcliff is out of placed due to
the fact that he is very dirty, and ragged, where as the Earnshaws are fair skinned and well groomed.
The second example of displacement would be when Catherine was at Thrushcross Grange for five
weeks. The mistress visited her often in the interval, and commenced her plan of reform by trying to
raise her self respect with fine clothes and flattery, which she took readily; so that, instead of a wild,
hatless little savage jumping into the house, and rushing to squeeze us all breathless. (Bronte pg 55)
From this quote we understand that while Catherine was staying at the Grange she became displaced
from her normal life at Wuthering heights, which in turn changed her perspective and appearance. ...

I could scarcely refrain from smiling at this antipathy to the poor fellow; who was a well made,
athletic youth, good looking in features, and stout and healthy, but attired in garments befitting his
daily occupations of working on the farm and lounging among the moors after rabbits and game.
(Bronte p.215) This quote shows us that Hareton s perspective and appearance has changed, due to

Comparing Apocalypse Now and Heart of Darkness Essay
Comparing Apocalypse Now and Heart of Darkness
In the opening scenes of the documentary film Hearts of Darkness A Filmmaker s Apocalypse,
Eleanor Coppola describes her husband Francis s film, Apocalypse Now, as being loosely based on
Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness. Indeed, loosely is the word; the period, setting, and circumstances
of the film are totally different from those of the novella. Yet, a close analysis of character, plot, and
theme in each respective work reveals that Conrad s classic story of savagery and madness is present
in its cinematic reworking.
The story of Heart of Darkness is narrated by its central character, the seasoned mariner Marlowe, a
recurring figure in Conrad s work. Apocalypse Now ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The idea of company man turned savage, of a brilliant and successful team player, being groomed by
the Company for greater things, suddenly gone native, is perfectly realized in both novella and film. In
the film, Kurtz is portrayed by Marlon Brando, the father of American method actors, who lends
weight (both physically and dramatically) to the figure of the megalomaniacal Kurtz. Brando s
massive girth is all the more ironic for those familiar with Heart of Darkness who recall Conrad s
description: I could see the cage of his ribs all astir, the bones of his arms waving. It was as though an
animated image of death carved out of old ivory had been shaking its hand with menaces at a
motionless crowd of men... (Conrad, p.135). One could speculate that Coppola s Kurtz is a graphic
analogy of the bloated American war machine dominating and perverting the innocent montegnards of
Cambodia; however, after viewing Eleanor Coppola s documentary, one finds that the casting was
more based on a combination of Coppola s wanting to work with Brando (remember The Godfather )
and Brando s own weight problem. (It should also be noted that the cult like following of Kurtz in
Heart of Darkness is brilliantly and subtly updated by Coppola in a foreshadowing scene in which
missives to Willard from headquarters are intercut with scenes of newspaper clippings about Charles
Manson.)
Also present in Coppola s film is the loveable, addle headed harlequin/fool

Essay On Armoured Cars
The Armoured car, an original idea by Leonardo Da Vinci was a goliath in its time. Even though it was
never used a lot it was still a goliath. I believe that Leonardo Da Vinci s armoured car was the most
important because it was the breakthrough in war technology due to its modern use of new weaponry.
Originally the armoured car was a scare tactic to intimidate the enemy with this big new weapon.
Instead, Leonardo designed it to be a complex fortified weapon that will intimidate as well as kill.
Even though it was only a blueprint his invention shaped the way modern warfare by adding death
bigger death machines as well as complex machinery that is portable and efficient.
The use of the modern weaponry with Leonardo s armoured car was the more portable use of cannons.
Back then cannons were usually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As described in the body paragraphs above the armoured car was the idea of putting technology,
portability, armour and weaponry together to make an idea for a new war machine. Let s step back to
the reason why it was thought up in the first place. Ludovico Sforza, Duke of Milan, asking for a new
weapon/scare tactic. Leonardo jumped on this idea and came up with the armoured car. In his letter to
the Duke of Milan he wrote, I can make armored cars, safe and unassailable, which will enter the
closed ranks of the enemy with their artillery, and no company of soldiers is so great that it will not
break through them. And behind these our infantry will be able to follow quite unharmed and without
any opposition. Although it was never built the armoured car eventually became classified as a tank
and was the base of the first real tanks. Since he put portability, armour, weaponry, technology
together, and Leonardo Da Vinci s idea, we now have our modern tanks that protect troops across the
world. This is why I believe that the armoured car was the most important invention during the

The Cause And Causes Of The Second World War
In 1939, the Second World War began as Germany attacked Poland. Britain and France declared war
on Germany in response to Germany s invasion of Poland. The Second World War was composed of
two main powers. One was the Axis Powers which included Germany, Italy, and Japan. The other was
the Allied Powers which included Britain, France, the United States, the Soviet Union and etc.
Germany s attack on Soviet Union and Japan s invasion of Pearl Harbor escalated the war and the war
became more intensified on a world scale. Because of the Second World War, a lot of countries and
people were sacrificed. In addition, all the things concerning politics, economy, society, culture , etc
changed due to this war. Historians always argue about historical events, especially argue about the
cause and effect. In the case of the Second World War, most of the historians blame for the war on
Hitler. They agree that the Second World War occurred on account of Hitler s ambition of ruling the
world and his wrong idea devastated the whole world. They thought that Hitler made a plan to
conquer Europe or the whole world, and by instigating German people with Nazism ... Show more

It is well known that the Versailles and the reparation problem made Germany s situation worse.
However, when it comes to analyzing the war itself, people usually focus on Hitler himself and his
many policies. It means that it is usual for common people to regard Hitler as the main reason for the
war. Of course, this writer also thought that Hitler should have to bear the blame for the war. Actually,
this writer have taken a lot of classes about the Second World War such as Holocaust , the World War
Two era ~. So I am really accustomed to consider Hitler as ~. But, A.J.P Taylor s view on Hitler and

Who Is Montag A Hero In Fahrenheit 451
There are 129, 864, 880 books in the world. Now imagine if there were zero. In Ray Bradbury s
Fahrenheit 451, this is precisely the goal of firemen and the majority of society. Guy Montag has been
a fireman for ten years, and he has always gotten a certain thrill from starting fires to burn houses
containing books to the ground. Then Clarisse McClellan comes along and changes his perspective on
everything. She says that firemen did not always use to start fires; they used to put them out, and
people were not afraid. I like to smell things and look at things, and sometimes stay up all night,
walking, and watch the sun rise (Bradbury 7). Clarisse questions his happiness, and Montag cannot
answer confidently that he is fully happy with his life. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Montag reveals his secret stash of books in the attic, she nearly faints and tells him that he must
burn them in the incinerator immediately. Throughout the novel, Montag struggles with individuality
and making a difference despite dealing with his mind blocked co workers who quickly target him as
the outsider and turn the Mechanical Hound loose on him. There must be something in books, things
we can t imagine, to make a woman stay in a burning house; there must be something there. You don t
stay for nothing (Bradbury 51). He develops a plan with Faber, a man who remembers what the world
was like before firemen began burning books. This plan just might be the key to regaining the people s
rights and restoring books to their rightful place in society. Firemen eliminated the people s ability to
express one s own opinion when they eradicated books and free knowledge from the world. In
Fahrenheit 451, Bradbury explores this idea of censorship and the fact that it bans individuality and
the ability to express one s

  • 2. Argumentative Essay On Athens And Pericles Athens was a major civilization located in ancient Greece. Athens was located on the ocean, which led to it becoming a prominent trading center. The state was extremely wealthy with an extraordinary, capable naval force. Women had no rights at all in Athens, so every one of the choices were made by the men. The men of Athens had numerous obligations that they were required to perform for society to run legitimately. Above all, they needed to take in every one of the qualities by which their society taught them. Pericles believed that democracy exemplified a governmental system that gave every citizen the right to vote, Xenophon opposes Pericles ideas and proclaims that the worst of people may negatively affect the government, causing ... Our public men have, besides politics, their private affairs to attend to, and our ordinary citizens, though occupied . . . are still fair judges of public matters . . . instead of looking on discussion as a stumbling block in the way of action, we think it an indispensable preliminary to any wise action at all. Xenophon, an ancient Greek writer, completely opposed the beliefs of Pericles. He explained the various issues that arose in a democratic society. Xenophon resisted the idea that any person, no matter his credibility, was given the same amount of power in the government system. Then there is a point which some find extraordinary, that they everywhere assign more to the worst persons, to the poor, and to the popular types than to the good men: in this very point they will be found manifestly preserving their democracy. • 3. Short Essay On Dementia Contrary to public belief, dementia is not one specific disease rather a range of symptoms that are associated with cognitive decline and a reduction in a person s ability to remain active and independent. There was a time when dementia was referred to as senility or having senior moments, but these monikers suggest that dementia is a normal part of aging, and this concept simply isn t accurate. Alzheimer s disease accounts for up to 80% of all dementia cases closely followed by vascular dementia, which typically occurs after a stroke. Dementia may also be caused by vitamin deficiencies and thyroid problems. These last two types are reversible in nature. • 4. The Effect Of Hyperglycemia On The Brain It has been long recognized that children with diabetes mellitus onset before age 5 yr have permanent neurocognitive dysfunction more commonly than aged matched or sibling peers . A recent study showed that children with diabetes onset before age 7 yr had reduced intellectual performance and mild central brain atrophy in adulthood when compared with individuals with similar duration of diabetes but later onset . Because both hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia occur in young children with type 1 diabetes, it is unlikely that hypoglycemia is the primary cause of this recognized but little publicized reduction in cognitive function associated with childhood type 1 diabetes in children. Hyperglycemia is known to adversely affect peripheral nerve structure and function in younger (3 6 months) but not in older rats. Physical and functional damage to peripheral nerves associated with diabetes is related to increased activity of the polyol pathway . The polyol pathway is a minor pathway of glucose metabolism that increases the intracellular content of the polyol sorbitol in response to increased extracellular glucose concentrations. ... • 5. Similarities And Differences Between The Scottish And... Even though there are many similarities between the Scottish and Irish cultures, there are also many differences. For one, the Scottish have trouble defining what Scottish culture is, this is because they joined the UK at a very early time. Because of this, much of Scottish culture has joined together with English culture. This could be seen when we were walking around Glasgow and saw many English Art and sculptures, as well as walking around the Holyrood house in Edenborough. And now that Scotland may break away from England, the people cling to fantasy and mystery, as well as their own accomplishments to create and define Scottish culture. In Glasgow, the Peoples Palace displayed many accomplishments of the cities people, all stating that they were the first to invent this and the first to do that. Instead of looking back, the city showed how it was progressive and urged its people to move forward. In Edenborough, the tour guide talked about how they were the first to invent skyscrapers and other architecture. Instead of talking about how the country moved forward as a whole, each city talked about how they moved forward and the people in it. Scotland has also clung to many mythological and fantasy ideals. For one, the national animal of Scotland is the Unicorn, which is a mythological creature. Also, during the ghost tour I took around Edenborough, the Scottish believe that they invented Halloween and the city is filled with ghost stories. Even in the north, Loch ... • 6. Alexander The Great Accomplishments Alexander the Great has many historical accomplishments during his reign from 336BCE 323 BCE. During his lifetime, Alexander has completed many long conquests and gained victory in vital wars which impacted the growth of his kingdom. His accomplishments also set a guide for the Hellenistic empire that followed in the region after his death. Alexander the Great, is the son of the Macedonian King Philip II. After King Philip II was assassinated in 336 BCE, Alexander quickly took the throne when he was only 20 year old. Many Greeks revolted claiming that he was too young to rule. As a result, Alexander rushed to get in power by finishing his rebels and uniting all the Greek city states under his rule. The city states of Thebes were the most ... Alexander had appointed his father s experienced general Antipater as in command while he away on his conquest, leaving him with 9,000 infantries and 1,500 cavalries to maintain control over Macedonia s territories in Europe. During the spring of 334 BCE. One of the key battles fought in his conquest was the Battle of Granicus River which occurred on May 334 BCE. It was fought near the city of Troy and the first of three major battles that was fought between Alexander and the Persian Empire. Alexander s army faced the Persians on the third day of May from Abydos. Parmenion, the second in command of Alexander, suggested crossing the river upstream and attacking at dawn the next day, but Alexander attacked immediately. This tactic caught the Persians off guard. The Macedonian had special way of attacking. The phalanx tactic to attack consisted of a line that was arrayed with the heavy combat soldiers in the middle, and cavalry on either side. The Persians expected that the main assault would come from Alexander s position and moved units from their center to that flank. The total casualties for the Greeks were between 300 and 400. Likewise, the Persians had 1,000 cavalries and 3,000 infantry killed. After being victorious in the battle, Alexander buried the Persian commanders and the Greek mercenaries who were killed fighting on the side of the enemy. • 7. Abolishing Death Penalty The future of the death penalty lies unclear in the cross country battle over whether or not it should be abolished. The death penalty should in fact be abolished because of the extreme costs and painful time involved to house and execute inmates, the indecision of which method of execution is the most humane, and the increasing number of innocent inmates being wrongfully executed. The number of death sentences peaked at about 315 in 1996, but last year dropped to only 73. In addition, the number of prisoners on death row dropped 17% from 3,593 in 2000, to 3,000 in 2015(Wolf and Johnson 1). Despite this rapid decline in the amount of death sentences and prisoners awaiting execution, 31 states still retain the death penalty, with only seven ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... is that no states are seeking to reinforce the death penalty. For example, California houses 25% of the nation s 3,000 death row prisoners and the $137 million dollars the state spends on maintaining capital punishment has led to the states disliking. One aspect of capital punishment that has displeased average American citizens is all the attention on death row prisoners, making rock stars out of killers. Many believe the money and attention should be spent on more serious issues like disease or poverty or even on the struggling families of the victims. However, the crime rate jumped 122% from 1963 to 1980, and maybe that is why capital punishment is needed. The fear of being executed will diminish the amount of murders and crimes in the country, and that if we protect guilty lives then innocent lives will be given up in exchange. But by reinforcing the death penalty, innocents could be wrongly executed. Take for example Anthony Ray Hinton. Hinton spent 30 years on Alabama s death row after being convicted for two murders at age 29. But due to a defense lawyer s mistakes in 1985, he was granted a new hearing and was found innocent. After being freed he said, I spent 30 years on death row for something I didn t do. This supports my argument in that if all this time and money is spent on protecting the death penalty to come to a clear verdict, than there should never be a wrong conviction. The risk of wrongful convictions is greater if the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Why I Want For An Id For A Purchase Or A Withdrawal As I have been in the retail business for over fifteen years, I have seen and heard it all. We are always told the customer is always right, and do whatever it takes to make them happy. However, as I got older and wiser, I concluded you are not always right and no matter what you do you will not make them happy. I have noticed many do not like to be asked for any form of identification, do not count their change, and some like to blame employees. When you are asked for an ID, it is for your protection. I never understood why customers would get so upset when I would ask them for an ID for a purchase or a withdrawal. As I started working the Service Desk at Jewel I was not familiar with all the clients, I would always ask for an ID for sizably voluminous purchase amount or cash withdrawals. As I try to protect my company from any losses, many of them disliked the fact I did not know who they were. My very first day behind the Service Desk, I was by myself; I had a client wanting to cash a check over three thousand dollars. My natural response was to ask for an ID. She immediately threw her hands on her waist and verbally expressed, You don t know who I am? I tried explaining to her I was new here, and I am still being acquainted with all the clients. She wanted to speak to a manager and complain about me. My initial thought was why would she be so bothered and upset by this? I am only trying to protect her. Why am I wrong on this? • 9. Dangers In Norman Podhoretz s Looking Back AtCatch 22 However, the possible dangers are not limited to ones pertaining to physical injury. An example of this is Yossarian s conversation with an italian family who is told that Yossarian is their dying son, wincing and feel[ing] sick at his barefaced lie (Heller 184 185). This scenario serves as a broad implication of moral loss and danger faced by soldiers. Their lives affect those around them and their families, and their decisions can also weigh on their conscience. They also rely on each other, and occasionally may form emotional ties amid all of the superficial relationships, putting a part of their soul at risk. Reinforcing this assertion that all these conflicts are legitimate fears, Norman Podhoretz in his article Looking Back at Catch 22 agrees that Yossarian s paranoia... [is] not a disease but a sensible response to real dangers (Podhoretz 5). Podhoretz s assertion that Yossarian s paranoia, while humorous in its absurdity, is legitimate illustrates the danger inherent in the common facets of everyday life, establishing the tumultuous atmosphere in the novel. After this, Heller makes the conflict between Yossarian much more relatable to the reader by adding in personal enemies and personal struggles to show the individual applicability of the chaotic uncaring nature of life. The first enemy of Yossarian embodied in an individual person is Colonel Cathcart. Thinking of ways to reduce negative perceptions and boost commendations to himself, Cathcart decides ... Fibroids with higher percentages of non enhancing tissue and signal intensities similar to skeletal muscle or brighter than skeletal muscle but lower than myometrium tend to have a higher shrinkage percentage after six months. Studies show that patients with high intensity fibroids are not considered good candidates for this procedure (Hesley, Gorny, Woodrum, 2012). • 12. Life Without Principle By Henry David Thoreau In one of his Transcendentalist essays, Life Without Principle, Henry David Thoreau addresses his personal issues within society and explains the solutions to those issues. Throughout the essay, Thoreau argues that society as a whole is on a decline. In order to prove this deterioration of society Thoreau assumes that the best situation transpires when people work for pleasure instead of money, nature is preserved instead of destroyed, and the daily times phased out. If the society is not participating in these practices, the society is therefore in a state of deterioration, or already has deteriorated. Out of Thoreau s claims, some side with my personals conclusions, and others conflict. Therefore it can be deduced that Thoreau has a multitude of beliefs, and with each belief, a different level of relevancy to the reader. If a reader was to agree with all of Thoreau s points, he or she may find themselves somewhat detached from society and placing less emphasis on monetary objects, but in no way in a poor situation. If a reader was to disagree with all of Thoreau s points, there would be a worse consequence: he or she could find themselves unhappy, focused on wealth and insubstantial events, and without care for the environment. Individual thought is required to interpret the many messages presented by Thoreau and find the proper equilibrium between the thoughts of Thoreau s and those of personal origination. Thoreau believes that in the best scenario, people would work ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Societal Stressors Essay Societal stressors Societal stressors are defined as factors that capture the discrimination and difficulties associated with being undocumented, including the fear of deportation and possible separation from their kids (Arbona et al., 2010; Perreria et al., 2006). When looking at the research done on acculturation, very few studies looked specifically into societal factors affecting undocumented parents. The studies that did look at societal stressors focused solely on discrimination and its effects on immigrants. Knowing the English language for immigrants is not just about having the language skills, but also being linguistically integrated into the U.S. since there are sets of social requirements, laws, and propositions that enforce the acquisition of the dominant language (Leuck and Wilson, 2010). When using the National Latin and Asian American Study (NLAAS), Leuck and Wilson (2010) found that language acquisition is seen as an enforced civic duty. For immigrants, keeping their ethnic language often is devalued and seen as a threat by society and thus they experience greater language based discrimination (Leuck and Wilson, ... • 14. Comparison Of Jim Crow Laws And Mass Incarceration In The... In The New Jim Crow, Michelle Alexander maps out the parallels between the old Jim Crow system and the new racial caste system of mass incarceration. There are many profound similarities between these two systems, such as historical parallels, closing the courthouse doors, and racial segregation. There are many historical parallels between Jim Crow laws and mass incarceration. Both of these systems were made due to a desire among white elites to exploit the resentments, vulnerabilities, and racial bias of poor and working class whites for political or economic gain (Alexander 191). Segregation laws were made to deflect social tensions from whites to blacks. Another example is making laws more discriminative. In the Jim Crow era whites competed by passing harsher laws to keep blacks in prisons. Currently legislators looking to make drug laws harsher to incarcerate more blacks and latinos. The most obvious parallel between the Jim Crow laws and mass incarceration is the legalization of discrimination. During the Jim Crow era blacks were denied the right to vote by poll taxes, literacy tests, and grandfather clauses. The fifteenth amendment states the rights of citizens of the United States to vote should not be denied on the account of race, color or previous condition of servitude (Alexander 192). Bundle up and keep those furs on Regardless of how beautiful and thick our beloved pets furs are, they won t totally keep off the cold. For the same reason that mountain climbers can get hypothermia no matter what type of protective clothing they are wearing, mammalian systems for heat retention and regulation can be overwhelmed by excessive cold, Oregon veterinarian Marla J. Foster claims that geography can also define or even develop character (Foster 175); he says that traveling back to your real home can help you discover your true self, because that is where your loved ones are; that is where you grew up; that is where you know each tree and each stream; and that is ... In The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, Huck and Jim travel on a raft on the Mississippi River, hoping to reach Cairo, where Jim would be a free man. While on the river, the motif of education arises as Huck is forced to learn how to trick and deceive in order to keep Jim safe. Huck uses the river as a safe place where he is floating away from the troubles that lie on the shore. The river bridges the gaps between the levels of society as Huck travels from community to community experiencing each individual class. The Mississippi provides Huck with an education, a home, and a bridge but also forces him into becoming an entirely new person who we, a century and a half later, look up to. The motif of education is prevalent especially because Huck never received one. Lauriat Jane Jr. best describes this concept in his article Why Huckleberry Finn Is a Great World Novel , he says The novel is a novel of education. Its school is the school of life rather than of books, but Huck s education is all the more complete for that reason (Lane 2). This is a direct result of a lack of certain economically ideal factors, which prevents equilibrium (Market Failure 2013). Market failures have negative effects on the economy because an optimal allocation of resources is not attained. This means that markets form, but will fail to develop and supply sufficient quantities of a good or service. In the case of merit goods, such as education, markets are inefficient because they under supply these goods, and fail to meet society s demand. Common Views of Weight Crawford and Campbell (1999) found that common definitions of weight differ drastically from medically accepted BMI values. In this study, 1342 participants (666 men and 676 women) completed surveys in which they defined ideal weight and the term overweight. The average BMI value that women considered ideal was 22.7 and the average ideal BMI value for men was 24.9. Medically, a BMI value of 25 is considered overweight. In the study, however, women defined an average BMI value of 23.7 as overweight and men defined an average BMI value of 26.1 as overweight. The BMI values for ideal weight and overweight increased in both sexes with the participants ages and current weights. In summary, men and women often do not have realistic images of their ideal weight and/or being overweight. This fact can create a problem when men and women strive for unrealistic weight goals. The Problem Of Eating Disorder Recovery Maria and Katy Campbell were 11 years old when they overheard their father say to their mother, Gosh, those girls are becoming young women, aren t they? They re getting hips. Devastated by the seemingly normal remark a father would make of his preteen daughters, the twins made a pact that night to help each other lose their hips , and lose their hips they did. For the 22 years that would follow both women would advance their education to receive their doctorate degrees, and try to live somewhat normal lives all while weighing less than 84 pounds and suffering in and out of eating disorder recovery clinics. Bulimia nervosa is an eating disorder distinguished by its psychological, physiological, developmental, and social components. The disorder is characterized by binge eating shortly followed by harmful compensatory behaviors, such as abuse of laxatives, diuretics or enemas, stimulants, vomiting, fasting, or excessive exercise. This is known as the Binge Purge Cycle . Unlike anorexia nervosa, those with bulimia nervosa fall within a normal or slightly overweight weight range and usually perform their eating disordered behaviors in secret due to the severe feelings of shame and disgust which accompany the binge purge cycle. Due to the intensity of the combined mental and physical assault bulimia has on the body, complications of bulimia can stay with a patient long after recovery is achieved. Such complications include, but are not limited to: Decaying tooth enamel (tooth rot) due to the stomach acid constantly eroding the protective layering on the teeth; those who have suffered from this eating disorder for more than seven years (the average time of recovery for those with bulimia nervosa) have a great likelihood of rupturing either their stomach or ... Without respiration life is impossible. Respiratory System, consisting of a number of organs in human body which is taking the function of respiration. These organs include mouth, nasal passage, glottis, trachea, larynx, pharynx, bronchi, bronchioles, alveoli and last but not the least the LUNGS. Other supporting orangs are ribs, intercostal muscles, diagram and cilia. In the following lines, we ll discuss in detail about these organs and their functions and how the design of whole RESPIRATORY SYSTEM facilitates gaseous exchange. The respiratory system is a group of organs that work together to bring the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide into and from the blood. Its main function is to transport oxygen into the body and the excrete carbon dioxide out of the body. Respiration can occur at two separate levels, the level of the cell (internal respiration) and the level of the organism (external respiration). Internal respiration is the exchange of gases between the blood and body cells. External respiration, more commonly known as breathing, is the exchange of gases between the air and the blood in the lungs. • 42. Early Psychosis Intervention ( Epi ) Program Essay Once hospitalized, SC was enrolled in the Early Psychosis Intervention (EPI) Program. This pilot provides timely treatment for individuals under 25 who are newly diagnosed, or have untreated psychosis (Vancouver Coastal Health, 2016). SC met these criteria. EPI is based on the idea that if psychosis is recognized and treated early, interventions can limit the potential for ongoing negative consequences (BC Early Psychosis Intervention Program, 2016). Although this was SC s fourth hospitalization, this was her first time on the EPI. By not being treated effectively on her first admission, her chances of success were reduced. A substantial barrier for EPI is a client s delay, or refusal to access services (BC Schizophrenia Society, 2012). SC had not been ready to accept treatment during previous admissions. Lappin et al. (2016) also argue that there needs to be available services specifically for young adults early in their illness that also have particular interventions for drug related psychosis. This addictions component is not specifically addressed in the current EPI model. However, it specifically targets young adults. As well as additional monitoring of EPI, SC was being stabilized through medications. Her pharmaceutical interventions included suboxone to treat substance dependence, gabapentin as a mood stabilizer, olanzepine for psychosis and zopiclone for insomnia (Vallerand, Sanoski, Deglin, 2015). To change the world is why I want a good college education, so for the last few months I have been visiting colleges that I was considering to transfer to, Illinois State University(my top choice), Eastern Illinois University(my second choice), and Western Illinois University(my 3rd choice). I chose to highlight the major differences between Illinois State University and Western Illinois University just to show how much they contrast. By the same token, Western Illinois University did not have a large number of people who were wearing the school colors which struck me as odd because the majority of the colleges that I have visited had a myriad of people in their school colors. • 46. Wuthering Heights Displacement Quotes Displaced The first theme is that of displacement. After reading a majority of Wuthering Height there is a lot involving people who have been displaced. Our first example of this would be when Mr.Earnshaw brings back Heathcliff to Wuthering Heights The master tried to explain the matter; but he was really half dead with fatigue, and all that I could make out, amongst her scolding, was a tale of his seeing it starving, and houseless, and as good as dumb, in the streets of Liverpool, where he picked it up and inquired for its owner. (Bronte, p.38) From this quote we can see that Heathcliff is out of placed due to the fact that he is very dirty, and ragged, where as the Earnshaws are fair skinned and well groomed. The second example of displacement would be when Catherine was at Thrushcross Grange for five weeks. The mistress visited her often in the interval, and commenced her plan of reform by trying to raise her self respect with fine clothes and flattery, which she took readily; so that, instead of a wild, hatless little savage jumping into the house, and rushing to squeeze us all breathless. (Bronte pg 55) From this quote we understand that while Catherine was staying at the Grange she became displaced from her normal life at Wuthering heights, which in turn changed her perspective and appearance. ... • 47. Comparing Apocalypse Now and Heart of Darkness Essay Comparing Apocalypse Now and Heart of Darkness In the opening scenes of the documentary film Hearts of Darkness A Filmmaker s Apocalypse, Eleanor Coppola describes her husband Francis s film, Apocalypse Now, as being loosely based on Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness. Indeed, loosely is the word; the period, setting, and circumstances of the film are totally different from those of the novella. Yet, a close analysis of character, plot, and theme in each respective work reveals that Conrad s classic story of savagery and madness is present in its cinematic reworking. The story of Heart of Darkness is narrated by its central character, the seasoned mariner Marlowe, a recurring figure in Conrad s work. Apocalypse Now ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The idea of company man turned savage, of a brilliant and successful team player, being groomed by the Company for greater things, suddenly gone native, is perfectly realized in both novella and film. In the film, Kurtz is portrayed by Marlon Brando, the father of American method actors, who lends weight (both physically and dramatically) to the figure of the megalomaniacal Kurtz. Brando s massive girth is all the more ironic for those familiar with Heart of Darkness who recall Conrad s description: I could see the cage of his ribs all astir, the bones of his arms waving. It was as though an animated image of death carved out of old ivory had been shaking its hand with menaces at a motionless crowd of men... (Conrad, p.135). One could speculate that Coppola s Kurtz is a graphic analogy of the bloated American war machine dominating and perverting the innocent montegnards of Cambodia; however, after viewing Eleanor Coppola s documentary, one finds that the casting was more based on a combination of Coppola s wanting to work with Brando (remember The Godfather ) and Brando s own weight problem. (It should also be noted that the cult like following of Kurtz in Heart of Darkness is brilliantly and subtly updated by Coppola in a foreshadowing scene in which missives to Willard from headquarters are intercut with scenes of newspaper clippings about Charles Manson.) Also present in Coppola s film is the loveable, addle headed harlequin/fool ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I believe that Leonardo Da Vinci s armoured car was the most important because it was the breakthrough in war technology due to its modern use of new weaponry. Originally the armoured car was a scare tactic to intimidate the enemy with this big new weapon. Instead, Leonardo designed it to be a complex fortified weapon that will intimidate as well as kill. As described in the body paragraphs above the armoured car was the idea of putting technology, portability, armour and weaponry together to make an idea for a new war machine. Let s step back to the reason why it was thought up in the first place. Ludovico Sforza, Duke of Milan, asking for a new weapon/scare tactic. Leonardo jumped on this idea and came up with the armoured car. In his letter to the Duke of Milan he wrote, I can make armored cars, safe and unassailable, which will enter the closed ranks of the enemy with their artillery, and no company of soldiers is so great that it will not break through them. And behind these our infantry will be able to follow quite unharmed and without any opposition. Although it was never built the armoured car eventually became classified as a tank and was the base of the first real tanks. In Ray Bradbury s Fahrenheit 451, this is precisely the goal of firemen and the majority of society. Guy Montag has been a fireman for ten years, and he has always gotten a certain thrill from starting fires to burn houses containing books to the ground. Then Clarisse McClellan comes along and changes his perspective on everything. She says that firemen did not always use to start fires; they used to put them out, and people were not afraid.
