Theodore Roethke: An Unforgettable Poet
Iconic, influential, incomparable these ideal words describe the famous Theodore Huebner Roethke.
Throughout his life, Roethke experienced a great amount of obstacles which led to his success as a
well regarded, American poet. Fortunately, Roethke s challenges entitled him to various life
experiences which he incorporated into his poems to display his unique, introspectional style. Roethke
s audience can understand his poetry more thoroughly by acknowledging his childhood, the zeitgeist
of the Great Depression, and his mental illness.
Introspection in literature is the examination of one s own consciousness to retell the past; therefore, ...

While the poem speaks of death, the tone is very subtle and joyful because of the multiple imageries
of nature through diction such as bird, garden, and water. I think the dead are tender. Shall we kiss?
My lady laughs, delighting in what is.
If she but sighs, a bird puts out its tongue.
She makes space lonely with a lovely song.
She lilts a low soft language, and I hear
Down long sea chambers of the inner ear. We sing together; we sing mouth to mouth.
The garden is a river flowing south.
She cries out loud the soul s own secret joy;
She dances, and the ground bears her away.
She knows the speech of light, and makes it plain
A lively thing can come to life again. I feel her presence in the common day,
In that slow dark that widens every eye.
She moves as water moves, and comes to me,
Stayed by what was, and pulled by what would be. Roethke s message in the poem She , is to prove
that even though someone you love is gone, they are not really gone; because they stay with you.
Roethke explains how she is still doing the same things she did as if she was alive. Though, she is
dead now, she will live in the garden and the

Identity Crisis in Arthur Miller s Death of a Salesman Essay
Arthur Miller s Death of a Salesman is the story of a man much like Miller s father, a salesman, whose
misguided notions of success result in disillusionment (Draper 2360). The suppression of the main
character, Willy Loman s, true nature is a result of his pursuit of a completely misguided dream. The
fraudulent and miserable existence this generates is accentuated by the father son relationship he
shares with his son Biff. Willy Loman has surrendered the life of himself and his sons to a dream of
success, while this dream is not particularly reprehensible, it is nevertheless unsuitable for him and
can only be kept alive at the expense of his selfhood. Because Willy does not know himself, his
ambitions ?are based on false ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
and live a simple life (Miller 72). In fact, his road accidents are attributed to these bouts of dreaming
spent gazing at scenery, specifically trees (Corrigon 97). Whenever Willy reminisces, the pastoral
melody of a flute, ?telling of grass and trees and the horizon,? is heard, affiliated with his trailblazing
flute maker father (Miller 11). Willy?s father ?was a pioneer type? who traversed cross country in a
wagon, ?earning money by ingenious inventions and the making of flutes? (Corrigon 97). The pastoral
dream, pursued through carpentry or farming, would have been more fitting for Willy?s nature than
the cruel world of sales in the ?constraints of the modern city? (Corrigon 97). Willy feels best
performing manual labor??planting a small garden, building a swing, or putting a new addition on the
house??but cannot grasp the happiness these achievements bring (Nelson 119). Willy is somewhat
aware that he is not cut out for commercial success because the ?falsity of his existence? torments him
(Nelson 131). Willy?s anguish is best expressed in his fruitless attempts to plant a garden: ?the
crumbling salesman?s last vain attempt to accomplish something, the dying ember of the agrarian
frontier dream? (Nelson 122). Willy has ?given his real nature a horrible wrench in an attempt to
mould it? into the strained life of a salesman in a big city (Sharma 370). In short, this repression has
obliterated his true identity, quite obvious in comparison to his son Biff. Miller

Healthcare information technology (IT) purchases are a huge undertaking for any healthcare system. It

The 2008 Financial Crisis
On September 15, 2008, Wall Street entered the largest financial crisis since the Great Depression. On
a day that could have been called Black Monday, the Dow Jones Industrial average plummeted almost
500 points. Historically prominent investment giant Lehman Brothers filled for bankruptcy, while
Bank of America bought out former powerhouse Merrill Lynch (Maloney and Lindeman 2008). The
crisis enveloped the economy of the United States, as effects are still felt today. Experts still disagree
about what exactly caused the greatest financial disaster since the Great Depression, but many point to
the repeal of the Glass Steagall Act of 1933 as a gateway to the rise of extreme laissez faire policies
that allowed Wall Street to take on incredible risk at the expense of taxpayers. In the wake of the
crisis, politicians look for policies that reign in the power of Wall Street, but the fundamental
relationship between economic and political power has made such regulation ineffective. The Glass
Steagall Act of 1933 was a direct response to the Great Depression of the 1930s. The years before the
Depression were marked by robust financial growth, led by an expansion of credit through the policies
of the Federal Reserve and new financial innovation, such as investment trusts (Neal and White 2012).
Though these trusts were similar to a savings bank, they differed in that trusts were not regulated in
which securities they could invest in and had had little government supervision. The

Virtual Teaching Hospital Research
For the change project, my mentor and I have chosen to discuss one of the topics listed in the Virtual
Teaching Hospital. We are going to address the increase in falls on the medical surgical unit. Falls and
injuries due to falls is a serious and dangerous problem which can lead to serious injuries, adverse
patient outcomes and high costs for hospitals. Falls and fall injuries in hospitals are the most
frequently reported adverse event among adults in the inpatient setting. Advancing measurement and
improvement around falls prevention in the hospital is important as falls are a nurse sensitive measure
and nurses play a key role in this component of patient care (Quigley White, 2013). Improving the
quality of care and patient safety ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other personnel may be included as needed throughout the process. As a team, a plan for
implementing the best practices needs to be developed. These practices need to be processes that are
based on literature and evidence based research.
The first phase of the change process is preparing for the change. This includes defining the strategy
that will be used and developing a model for implementation. The second phase is managing change.
This phase includes developing change management plans and implementing them. In this phase, it is
also vital to train managers and supervisors about the change process, as well as, training the primary
caregivers, which include the nurse and assistive personnel. The third and final phase is reinforcing
the change. This phase includes collecting feedback, managing resistance, implement corrective
actions, and lastly, recognizing and acknowledging success.
Because, the change process needs to be a collaborative effort in order to be successful, there are
multiple change agents involved in this processes. However, the leader of the change process is the
primary change agent. The change agent acts as a catalyst for change. The leader is the person that
recognizes that a change is necessary and initiates the process to implement the change. In order to be
successful, the change agent needs to have a clear vision of

Let us cross over the river, and rest under the shade of the trees (McGuire, pp. 162 63). These peaceful

recognition he received during the Civil War, and a brief look into his life sheds light upon how
Stonewall rose above numerous other outstanding Civil War generals to become The Man, The

continuing academics, and began his West Point career at the bottom of his class. During his years at
West Point, Stonewall first demonstrated the intense determination and work ethic that would serve
him well as a general during the Civil War. He was one of the hardest working cadets at West Point,

his career as an Army officer as a second lieutenant serving in an artillery regiment for the Mexican
American War from 1846 1848. During this time, Stonewall earned two field (brevet) promotions and

Questions And Questions On Debating Skills
1.3.2 Debating skills
As a result of the activities and assessments in the program, the students learns how to pursue their
arguments. The skill to argue about the point of view helps them in becoming a good advocate of
healthcare quality, risk, and safety. For example, this skill provides the students with ability to present
their view to a CEO of an organization during a 5 minute encounter in an elevator (p3:52).
The students learn how to solve a complicated problem through the research and creative thinking
skills and through ability to chunk an argument in a new way but also forced the students to think and
understand both sides of an issue (p6:3). The students learn to write a solution by arguing on the
opposing ideologies of the issue. The skill student learns as a result of the debate is way to challenge
thinking of the superior management and direct the decision which is better for the patient (p3:67,
p6:5).
Some instructors make them fight on an argument and pull the students out of their comfort zones, so
the students can learn to manage a tense situation. After the sessions of the debates and argumentation
the students feel happy and they love (the debate session) (p6:16). Other participant described that the
debates is equally liked by him/her and the students. He/ She randomly distributed students into the
groups for and against a given topic and then moderate the debate. At the end of the debate, the

The 4th Amendment In The Fourth Amendment
All counter terrorism efforts potentially violate the 4th Amendment because First of all, I think that
they violate the 4th amendment science It is proved that they kind of disrespect the privacy of others
by making certain agreements with other people to get information from anywhere that people didn t
know that they were getting. Another reason that can prove that they violated the 4th Amendment is
that before this program called PRISM came out the government would go and ask for permission to
get any type of information but after this program came out It turned out that everything was a secret.
Also basically everything about getting people s information was a secret until one day a man called
Edward Snowden came out with this point of privacy and he had to end up leaving the country and
hiding because the government disagreed with his opinions for a reason. This letter will attempt to the

The Lesson by Toni Cade Bambara is a short story set in the part of New York City. In this story, the
plot takes a journey from the place like a ghetto to F.A.O. Schwartz, an expensive upscale toy store.
The children live in an African American neighborhood, in Harlem, NY. They travel to upscale stores,
on Fifth Avenue in midtown, which is a much more expensive part of New York City. The story is
narrated by a young girl named Sylvia, as she explains an afternoon she spent with an educated
neighbor named Miss Moore. Miss Moore wants to teach the neighborhood children about the world
outside of ghetto and around them the lesson she wants to impart is the economic inequality that exists

time at the park, at the show, and at the pool, and as Sylvia proclaims its puredee hot (Bambara 147).
Sylvia s first thought is further reflected in her desire to go to the pool or the show where it s cool
(Bambara 147), where she would just let life happen to her, and never get worked up and angry over
the social injustice created by class distinctions. When Sylvia did not got the satisfactory answer from
Miss Moore for the price of real boat her anger was spotted, if you gonna mess up a perfectly good
swim day least you could do is have some answers (Bambara 149). This emphasize that she want the
answer of every injustice that she is facing in her life. Just as Miss Moore is trying to create a feeling
of ain t nobody gonna beat me at nuthin (Bambara 151), she is also trying to provoke the anger which
is necessary for the children to get motivated. At the end of the trip, Miss Moore leaves the children in
front of the mail box, back where the trip started, thus creating a frame for the lesson of social
equality. This frame is completed with Sugar and Sylvia s new understanding of the necessity of social
equality for everyone. And something weird is going on; I can feel it in

Pros And Cons Of Adjunction
All administrative agencies including the FDA were created by the legislative branch of the
government. They are created through a process called enabling legislation. One unfamiliar with
administrative law and government might ask, what exactly is enabling legislation? Enabling
legislation is according to the dictionary, is when the legislation gives the appropriate officials the
authority to implement or enforce the law (retrieved from
https://www.vocabulary.com/dictionary/enabling%20legislation). According to this definition,
enabling legislation is when the legislators give agencies certain types of power to make rules and

Adjunction is the exercise of judicial powers use by an agency (retrieved from
http://administrativelaw.uslegal.com/three types of administrative agency action rulemaking
adjudication investigation/). According to this definition, adjunction deals more of a judicial process
and in many ways could take longer to get regulations passed. Both of these methods have their own
merits, but adjunction is the one that would require more due process , in a given situation. The reason
for this is that it seems rulemaking is more of a formal process, that to get ideas out there and see what
is needed in order to be beneficial to the general public. Adjunction, on the other hand, seems to be
more court based and can take much longer to get things accomplished compared to the rulemaking
process. In the case of the FDA s new regulation seems to fall under the rulemaking process rather
than the adjunction process. The reason for this is that the people that run the FDA saw that there was
a growing concern with tobacco products and the harm that they were doing and wanted to do
something in order to fix this particular issue that is a major concern in this country. Also, the FDA
saw that there old regulations on tobacco products was outdated and needed to make some changes in
order to fix some issues that have come up in recent

Pliny The Elder Summary
INDUSTRY S KNOWLEDGE OF THE HARMFUL EFFECTS
Numerous authors believe that the risks associated with asbestos exposure were known more than
2000 years ago when Greek Geographer Strabo pointed out that slaves who wove asbestos into clothes
developed a sickness of the lung and that a similar observation was also made on asbestos miners, by
Pliny the Elder, a Roman naturalist.3,9,120 However, Browne et al describes Strabo s and Pliny s
stories to be inaccurate due to mistranslation. He points out that Strabo was referring to arsenic
disulphide, and that Elder Pliny was referring to sulphide of mercury, and not asbestos.121 Regardless
of the accuracy of these anecdotes, there is a myriad of evidence of early knowledge of asbestos s
health danger. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Daniel Jenkins, testified for the asbestos insulation manufacturers for several years. Also, Dr. Leary, a
physician specialized in chest diseases who worked for Travelers Insurance Company, diagnosed
Tomplait with emphysema, and did not mention asbestosis. Leary s finding was completely refuted
when Dr. Selikoff reviewed Tomplait s X rays and said that his diagnosis of extensive pulmonary
asbestosis is as certain as anything can be in medicine . Asbestos manufacturing companies and their
lawyer similarly, denied knowledge of the association between asbestos exposure and lung disease,
and argued consistently in every lawsuit that this association wasn t known until Selikoff s landmark
article that was published in 1964. It was made conspicuous, however, that literally hundreds of
studies were published in the 1920s and 1930s on the association between asbestos exposure and
asbestosis. Stephenson was also able to compile a bibliography of 86 articles on asbestosis most of
them published before 1938. Another example of the unethical conduct was what Dr. Cooper (an
occupational health professor) said about not being able to have known that a 15% asbestos product
would be unsafe in 1961, and that the early studies conducted in England, were on workers who were
exposed to a lot heavier asbestos dust. Dr. Cooper also referred to a study conducted in 1945 by
Fleisher et al that found low incidence (0.3%) of asbestosis among asbestos pipe covers (3 out of
1074). Despite the low incidence, the authors recommended the use of exhaust ventilation and to keep
the total dust concentration low. In Fleisher s study125, the majority (95%) of workers had been
employed for less than 10 years, way less than the needed latency period to develop the disease. It is

Desire And Death In The Ignorant By Jacques Ranciere
Desire and death Desire is the necessary condition for self consciousness; we long to know, to be
recognized or simply long to own commodities. Desire is necessary to our being; as we pursue
knowledge we continue to grow and therefore become increasingly conscious of ourselves. Equally,
death is the necessary condition for the evolution of a being and a natural occurrence of progress;
without death man cannot progress as he remains static. The relation between death and desire reflects
the connection between the struggle of life and death. Desire indicates that the individual is conscious;
furthermore it also reflects the evident opposition between life and death. Death is the result of nature
and fate of human desire; it is a natural and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This minority that Kant describes does not result as a lack of understanding but instead indicates a
lack of courage to step outside of the individual s comfort zone and utilise that understanding without
the direction of a master. Jacques Ranciere suggests that the master s role is to guide; however, if a
master is forced to explain something to their student he is only showing the student that they are
incapable of understanding through their own effort. Jacques Ranciere s students in The Ignorant
School Master, represent the individual s desire to know as they tackle self teaching due to an evident
language barrier leading them to become conscious of their own abilities. Once the individual is able
to utilise their understanding without direction, they have then reached enlightenment and as Kant
states can walk with confidence, knowing they ve learned through their own efforts. In Hegel s
dialectic, the master and the slave are represented as two opposed forms of consciousness, wherein
one exists merely for itself and the latter is dependent on the master and its existence relies on him.
Through pursuing knowledge man moves from ignorance to knowledge, to seeking knowledge and he
does so through experience; death is the condition which allows the possibility for experience. The
significance of moving from depending on a master for instruction to being able to build your own
theories through your own understanding is important to enlightenment; it ultimately leads the
individual to liberation. On the other hand, the individual that depends on the master for direction is
bound to intellectual death because they are unable to form their own

The Plight Of The Afghan Women Analysis
Letter to the Editor
Dear Abdullah Quazi,
I am very impressed with the information presented in your article The Plight of the Afghan Women . I
was not aware that Afghan women were treated so badly as you mention in the text. Besides, I had no
idea they had so many restrictions and that men consider them inferior just because of their gender.
After reading your publication and doing some research I couldn t believe this type of things were
happening.
I can t conceive the idea that Afghan women did not have the right to work, leave their estate alone or
without a male accompaniment, receive medical attention from a male doctor, and be forced to cover
themselves from head to toe with a burqa, showing as less skin as possible. In my opinion ... Show

In this case the government should have more control over this and force the unscrupulous men to
amend women for what they have done to them.
I totally agree with the fact that Afghan women have now the right to vote, the right of education, the
right to work, the right to choose their own partners in marriage and that the government no longer
forces them to wear the all covering burqa. Despite many would agree that the political and cultural
position of Afghan women has improved substantially, I consider that there is still much more to do
before men and women have exactly the same rights.
Something that baffles me is why the percentages of illiterate women is still very high. Although they
have access to education, 87 % of Afghan women are still illiterate. The same things happen with
forced marriage. Around 70% 80% percent of women face forced marriages in Afghanistan This is
something totally

Beowulf s Heroic Characteristics
Epic heroes have many common characteristics, many of which are portrayed by the hero Beowulf
throughout the poem. These common characteristics are generally heroic in nature. Beowulf has
inhuman strength which is most notably displayed when he tears the monster Grendel s arm clean off.
He is extraordinarily loyal to his men, his own king, and the king Hrothgar. His most impressive
heroic trait however, is his courage. All three of the monsters he faced had done nothing but destroy
and terror those that Beowulf had come to protect, but that didn t slow him down one bit. He was
always unyielding in his pursuit of these monsters, with fear never becoming an issue. Beowulf s
heroic qualities affect the epic in more ways than one. If ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

strength, courage, loyalty, or bravery. When he died fighting the dragon, it showed that he wasn t just

Shadow Of The Galilean Book Report
Gerd Theissen taught at University of Bonn and the University of Copenhagen, but is now a professor
at the University of Heidelberg in Germany. His field of expertise is the Bible, more specifically,
Theology of New Testament. He has been researching and writing novels about the New Testament
and the life of Jesus for over 30 years. It is evident that Theissen is able to write a historical fiction
novel that is well researched and accurately reflects the time period it is written about. The historical
fiction novel, The Shadow of the Galilean, follows the narrator Andreas, a grain merchant from

with his business and has relationships with many different people groups, Pontius Pilate blackmails
him to become a spy for the Roman government under the authority of the officer, Metilius (see pgs.

was to investigate the Essenes who lived in the wilderness (see pgs. 29 32). This particular people
group was extremely secluded and seldom shared information with those outside of the Essene
culture. The reason the Roman government was so interested in their community s isolation was
because Pontius Pilate believed they could be intentionally hiding something and they did want him to
find out. In reality, Pilate was worried that the Essenes would be more willing to submit to Herod
Antipas then him. Andreas is immediately sent off to start his undercover

Gap Year Pros
Taking a gap year after high school, what are the advantages? For over several years, the controversy
has been in the debate with no definite answer. There are pros and cons to taking a gap year, but it all
depends on what he or she may want to do later to in life and how soon students want to begin. Are
students satisfied with the major or career, he or she is going to study right after high school? The idea
of taking a gap year after high school is the best way to prepare a student for college because they can
work for an entire year to help pay for tuition, explore college options, and get a break from the 13
years of receiving an education. Moreover, if a high school graduate takes a gap year he or she is able
to work full time for a year and make more money to pay for college. A full year will actually surprise
students on how much they can do to put into savings, A year of earning money full time can go a long
way toward paying for college. (McCollum) When a student graduates from high school, he or she
will have their high school diploma so their paycheck will be higher than one in high school. While
high school students have a job it can add to the stress they have to deal with in both areas. If a high
school graduate takes off a year of school then he or she will have the opportunity to only focus on
their job specifically their roles at the company. Additionally, with the opportunity to work full time he
or she will make more than having a part time job

The American Political System Changes
The American political system changes regularly. Any small political change like increasing or
decreasing tariffs on imported goods might keep customers from buying Walmart s products which it
could adversely affect its accounting and financial profits. Walmart is currently operates globally. So,
they need to follow certain regulations and rules of host countries in their operations. Most of these
factors are beyond their control and they could negatively affect their operations internationally. The
best two examples of these implications is when Walmart international was forced by the Chinese

economic factors such higher fluctuations in foreign exchange, higher fuel prices and costs, higher

U.S. economy continued to recover at a moderate pace. However, there is no assurance that such
recovery trend will continue in the future. To deal with the difference in the economic environments
between countries, Walmart should follow different strategy. Just like the price strategy, the price of
the products may be different because of the costs is different. If both wages and expenses in a country

Leading on from the National Biotechnology Policy and its nine thrusts, Malaysia s Bioeconomy
Transformation Programme (BTP) intensifies the nation s transformation to a global high income

The National Biotechnology Policy was launched in 2005; its nine thrusts include
1. Agricultural: Enhance the value creation of the agricultural sector,
2. Healthcare: Commercializing the discoveries of the agricultural sector,
3. Industrial: Increase opportunities for bioprocessing and bio manufacturing,
4. Research and Development: Establish Centres of Biotechnology Excellence, through research and

based farm inputs, high value bio ingredients, high value food varieties, biosimilars, drug discovery
and pre clinical services, molecular screening and diagnostics (MSD), as well as stem cells and
regenerative medicine. Within these 10 EPPs, 20 private sector driven Trigger Projects constitute the
initial tranche of ventures launched.
In addition to these significant economic impacts, the BTP is also geared to benefit society and the
nation by improving individual incomes especially those of rural communities, through projects and
programmes with high inclusiveness factors. This can be achieved through the implementation of
Trigger Projects involving contract farming mechanisms. From this statement we can see that the
multiplier and ripple effects of the bioeconomy can be seen.
The BTP also advocates the promotion of a green economy, which in turn contributes to a long term
sustainable economy and environment. BioIndustrial Trigger Projects such as energy crop plantations,
the production of renewable biomaterials and bio based chemicals, and production of compressed
biomethane gas are expected to contribute to Malaysia s 2020 target of reducing its carbon footprint
and emissions by 40%.

Double Indemnity Movie Essay
Film Genre Essay
Double Indemnity Double Indemnity directed by Billy Wilder conforms to the Noir style. Double
Indemnity is widely believed to be one of the original Noir style films that used and started many of
the Noir clichés that we know today. It is part of the Noir style because of the techniques and stylistics
utilized in the film that are typical to that of most Noir films. These stylistics are explained by Paul
Schrader, in Notes on Film Noir (1972), he writes about the stylistics that must occur when
considering films of the Noir style. These stylistics are used to create a formula for all Noir films, and
out of the seven stylistics about characterisation, lighting and structure only one does not feature in
Double Indemnity . Also, characters in Double Indemnity are typical of Noir films that being the hard

This is where compositional tension is used instead of physical action. According to Schrader, a
typical noir would rather move the scene around cinematographically around the actor rather than
have the actor control the scene by physical action . Thomas Leitch writes, creates unbalanced visual
compositions marked by dazzling, bleached out whites amid pools of deep shadow that often conceal
important onscreen spaces or expressions on characters faces . This means that compositional tension
is used to draw the viewer in an attempt to surprise them and to add emotion and response. When
Phyliss shoots Walter he is surrounded by darkness this is to show compositional tension. The tension
helps the film stick to the Noir style because there is a deep sense of mistake near the end of the film.
Physical action is often overused in film and that s why it is a pleasant change in this film because it
gives you a different viewing. The tension helps with the suspense to keep the viewer on the edge of

Observation Of A Simulus Observation
Stimulus Observation Step 1
Recently, I observed a conversation on vaping which supposedly causes mold and burns in the lungs.
This caused us to pause and think, why do people try things which we all know are bad? The
conversation began as we brought up something about vaping and if it had negative effects. I
remembered that I had once heard that mold can grow on vape user s lungs when the vapor and
chemicals reach the membrane. Upon hearing this news others needed reassurance, so we looked for
information on the subject. As we brought up this fact, another participant asked ¨Why do people vape
or smoke when they know it is bad for them?¨ This question brings to mind our ability as Americans
for self control and the human will.
Step 2
We often think that surviving is our number one top priority or instinct, but we can also observe many
willingly killing themselves, albeit, slowly. In another sense each time one takes a drag of smoke or
vapor and harms themselves we would expect them to realize this is not helpful but actually harmful
to their survival, and throw down the habit. Instead we see them urged to use more and more until we
call it an unhealthy addiction. Although it is frowned upon in American culture to smoke or use
tobacco of any kind, vaping, which can as has also been seen to be harmful, is seen as perfectly
socially acceptable. Even though we know both smoking and vaping are harmful, one is new, exciting,
and claims to be less harmful. Americans often see these transitions and think very little of them, but
they both have similar ill effects we just choose to ignore one and not the other. Our culture decides
what is bad, fine, or even good not based on fact or research, but our understanding and feelings of the
questioned problem. Americans do not care if something causes a problem unless it is immediate and
noticeable. Americans are stubborn in some ways but very open in another, we are often very wishy
washy. The modern culture can t seem to look down the line and see consequences of our present
actions. The American population, resonating with this thought process, only want fast action and
immediate results. When this does not occur we find any possible way of forcing it to happen

Difference Between English Civil Law And Common Law
English Common Law
English Common Law and Civil Law are very much a different way that countries apply the law. One
of the main differences being that the Common law is largely based on precedent which means that
that the decision that a judge needs to make was most likely already made in the similar case. Because
Common law uses case law as their reference for future cases, judges have a huge role in making the
Common Law to what it is today and what it will be like in the future. Precedents are kept up to date
through the years and are historically documented in collections of case law. The verdict in cases that
follow the common law is decided by the jury which is a group of normal people that have no legal
background that listens to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the there are no significant facts that are completely different the judge would be forced to use the
precedent set by earlier case.
To show how distinguishing works there are two cases that are commonly used. These common cases
are Merritt v Merritt (1970) and Balfour v Balfour (1919) . In both of the cases, the defendant is the
husband and the prosecutor is the wife and both claims are for a breach of contract.
In Balfour v Balfour the husband went away from the country to, but the wife was not able to go with
him. The husband orally agreed to send money to the wife while he was away working. When the
relationship ended so did the payments from the husband. The wife went to court to get the contract
enforced in court, but he claims failed because it was decided that there was no intention to create
legal relations. The agreement was looked as a domestic arrangement made between husband and wife
and not a legal one.
In Merritt v Merritt the court was able to distinguish that there was a defence in the marital status of
the people compared to the Balfour v Balfour case. It was aggreged that the husband would give
money to the wife for her to pay the mortgage and when it fully paid off the house would be changed
to only have the wife s name and no longer joint ownership. The claim succeeded, even though this
agreement was written down and signed by both parties, the husband rejected to

The Importance Of Humanitarian Intervention
The international community has a responsibility to protect citizens against the gross human rights
abuses of their states. This statement leads into the discussion of the two main doctrines that relate to
human rights violations, the first being humanitarian intervention which has existed for many
centuries, and places emphasis on the powers of state having the duty to protect its citizens, and if this
is ignored, the international community has rights to step in. Despite the fact that, in theory, this
intervention doctrine has many flaws starting with the failures seen in crisis areas such as Somalia,
Bosnia and Kosovo and the debate on whether it compromises a state s sovereignty. These faults led to
the creation of the newer Responsibility to Protect (R2P) doctrine, which, in its own capacity, has
many faults and failures, but has seen some small victories in region such as Libya and Syria in recent
years. Humanitarian intervention is by no means a new idea, it has in fact been dated back to as early
the 1600 s, when Hugo Grotius promoted the idea that a ruler should be rightly dealt with if they were
found to have inflicted inhumane treatment upon their subjects (Haslett, 2014). It is described as the
coercive action, using armed forces, by a state, in another state without the permission of it authorities,
in order to prevent and stop the suffering of the citizens in that state. It can easily be confused with
peacekeeping missions, but there are two

Comparing Romeo And Juliet And The Girl Who Fell From The Sky
The Rose by Bette Midler relates to characters in the stories of Romeo and Juliet by William
Shakespeare and The Girl Who Fell from the Sky by Heidi W. Durrow which include Romeo
Montague, and Rachel Morse by the love that they experience. Romeo portrays through the play that
he needs love and will do anything to keep it with Juliet. Although Rachel has many bad relationships
in the book, she learns that she can live independently and doesn t have to rely on a man. Both
characters portray the cons and pros of love.
Romeo longs for the tender love of Juliet. He goes great lengths in order to maintain his love. In the
early acts of the play, Romeo is ecstatic about the qualities in Juliet. He never loses that, but he does
learn that love is a double edged sword. In the first 6 lines of the Poem, Midler writes,
Some say love, It is a river,
That drowns the tender reed,
Some say love it is a razor,
That leaves the soul to bleed. (1 6). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

violent delights have violent ends and in their triump die, like fire and powder Which, as they kiss,

Hunters in the Snow Character Analysis of Tub Essay
Tub s Hardships
Being a man isn t always easy, for most of their life they are taught to show no affection and to be
tough in almost every situation. The tragedy of machismo is that a man is never quite man enough.
Hunters in the Snow , by Tobias Wolff, three hunting buddies, Frank, Tub and Kenny, set out on a
hunting trip together as they have done for years. Tub, who is over weight, self conscious and a good
friend, shows some of his weaknesses, strengths and hardships that are sometimes placed on men in
different situations. The protagonist, over weight, Tub and his two hunting buddies, Frank and Kenny

about Tub s weight and clumsiness, Tub is yet a good listener and a great friend. Ironically, at the end
of the story the two guys, Tub and Frank, are bonding and supporting each other at the diner they stop
at to get warmed up before the hospital, even though their other friend Kenny is in the back of the
truck dying. Frank tells Kenny, It wouldn t hurt so much if you just stayed put. Now we re going to the
hospital. Got that? Say it I m going to the hospital (39). Once they leave the diner and are headed back
towards the hospital, Tub turns back to Frank, I just pulled a real boner, he said. What s that? I left the
directions on the table back there (39). A man having to be tough and to show no affection can
sometimes take a toll on their physical self being, yet they can also still be somewhat sensitive to
others emotions and feelings. In this short story by Tobias Wolff, Hunters in the Snow , Tub shows

The Economic Causes Of The First Anglo-Dutch War
In the seventeenth century, overseas trade was vital for the European countries as the circulation of
currency and commodities allowed nations to function. Rommelse claims in his article that this
interdependence of nations caused by necessary trading lead to a rise in economic influence in politics
which in turn lead to economic conflicts becoming wars between nations. I agree with his point, and
believe this fact is best exemplified in Anglo Dutch relations. The first two Anglo Dutch Wars were
dominated by economic conflict, but after the treaty of Breda in 1667, economic interests showed a
less prevalent effect in Anglo Dutch political relationships and the third Anglo Dutch war was unique
as its cause was purely political. The English Civil War began the conflict that would lead to the first
Anglo Dutch war. The Parliamentary forces were largely protestant, and the parliamentary forces
reached out for an alliance with the Dutch Republic to form a bond with the only protestant nation.
Rommelse states that the Dutch republic realized that an alliance with England would allow for
English aggression in claiming previously Dutch only trading routes. This fact is further supported by
an article written by J.E. Farnell. The protestant forces now in control of England were angry at the
rejection of an alliance, and in 1651 passed the Navigation Acts with the sole purpose of hurting
Dutch trade with the rest of Europe. By limiting who could carry English goods or

Analysis Of The Book The Essay
Callum shouldered his sack, eyes focused on the back of the man before him, trying not to think about
the ache in his feet, the soreness of his back, the grime that layered his body. Just keep marching, keep
moving Callum repeated in his head like a mantra.
Callum could see in the distance beyond the trees the faint outlines of green hills. Hills that he last
remembered were bathed in red and flesh. Over a year has passed since the First Battle of Bull Run
and so much as changed since then. With a lack of manpower and volunteers, the Confederacy issued
a draft for all men of age. Of course, Callum could have bought his way out of the draft, if it were not
for his rat bastard of a father. Said war would put some hair on his chest that it would be good for him
and then refused to cover the draft fees.
So here Callum was, trudging alongside several thousand men under General Lee s command. The
Union has been trying to gain control of Virginia since the very inception of the war. After Virginia
joined the Confederacy, it was rewarded with the Confederate capitol in Richmond due to its industry
and factories. His hometown was the only large scale industrial city in the Confederacy. Having the
capitol and the bulk of the army here allowed for easy restocking of supplies. It was a logistically
sound move, but also a dangerous one.
Virginia lies at the border of the Confederacy and the Union, not even a hundred miles south of the
Union s capital in Washington. Losing

  • 2. Theodore Roethke Research Paper Julia Barrera Mr. Green AP English Literature November 11, 2014 Theodore Roethke: An Unforgettable Poet Iconic, influential, incomparable these ideal words describe the famous Theodore Huebner Roethke. Throughout his life, Roethke experienced a great amount of obstacles which led to his success as a well regarded, American poet. Fortunately, Roethke s challenges entitled him to various life experiences which he incorporated into his poems to display his unique, introspectional style. Roethke s audience can understand his poetry more thoroughly by acknowledging his childhood, the zeitgeist of the Great Depression, and his mental illness. Introspection in literature is the examination of one s own consciousness to retell the past; therefore, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While the poem speaks of death, the tone is very subtle and joyful because of the multiple imageries of nature through diction such as bird, garden, and water. I think the dead are tender. Shall we kiss? My lady laughs, delighting in what is. If she but sighs, a bird puts out its tongue. She makes space lonely with a lovely song. She lilts a low soft language, and I hear Down long sea chambers of the inner ear. We sing together; we sing mouth to mouth. The garden is a river flowing south. She cries out loud the soul s own secret joy; She dances, and the ground bears her away. She knows the speech of light, and makes it plain A lively thing can come to life again. I feel her presence in the common day, In that slow dark that widens every eye. She moves as water moves, and comes to me, Stayed by what was, and pulled by what would be. Roethke s message in the poem She , is to prove that even though someone you love is gone, they are not really gone; because they stay with you. Roethke explains how she is still doing the same things she did as if she was alive. Though, she is dead now, she will live in the garden and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Identity Crisis in Arthur Miller s Death of a Salesman Essay Arthur Miller s Death of a Salesman is the story of a man much like Miller s father, a salesman, whose misguided notions of success result in disillusionment (Draper 2360). The suppression of the main character, Willy Loman s, true nature is a result of his pursuit of a completely misguided dream. The fraudulent and miserable existence this generates is accentuated by the father son relationship he shares with his son Biff. Willy Loman has surrendered the life of himself and his sons to a dream of success, while this dream is not particularly reprehensible, it is nevertheless unsuitable for him and can only be kept alive at the expense of his selfhood. Because Willy does not know himself, his ambitions ?are based on false ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... and live a simple life (Miller 72). In fact, his road accidents are attributed to these bouts of dreaming spent gazing at scenery, specifically trees (Corrigon 97). Whenever Willy reminisces, the pastoral melody of a flute, ?telling of grass and trees and the horizon,? is heard, affiliated with his trailblazing flute maker father (Miller 11). Willy?s father ?was a pioneer type? who traversed cross country in a wagon, ?earning money by ingenious inventions and the making of flutes? (Corrigon 97). The pastoral dream, pursued through carpentry or farming, would have been more fitting for Willy?s nature than the cruel world of sales in the ?constraints of the modern city? (Corrigon 97). Willy feels best performing manual labor??planting a small garden, building a swing, or putting a new addition on the house??but cannot grasp the happiness these achievements bring (Nelson 119). Willy is somewhat aware that he is not cut out for commercial success because the ?falsity of his existence? torments him (Nelson 131). Willy?s anguish is best expressed in his fruitless attempts to plant a garden: ?the crumbling salesman?s last vain attempt to accomplish something, the dying ember of the agrarian frontier dream? (Nelson 122). Willy has ?given his real nature a horrible wrench in an attempt to mould it? into the strained life of a salesman in a big city (Sharma 370). In short, this repression has obliterated his true identity, quite obvious in comparison to his son Biff. Miller ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The 2008 Financial Crisis On September 15, 2008, Wall Street entered the largest financial crisis since the Great Depression. On a day that could have been called Black Monday, the Dow Jones Industrial average plummeted almost 500 points. Historically prominent investment giant Lehman Brothers filled for bankruptcy, while Bank of America bought out former powerhouse Merrill Lynch (Maloney and Lindeman 2008). The crisis enveloped the economy of the United States, as effects are still felt today. Experts still disagree about what exactly caused the greatest financial disaster since the Great Depression, but many point to the repeal of the Glass Steagall Act of 1933 as a gateway to the rise of extreme laissez faire policies that allowed Wall Street to take on incredible risk at the expense of taxpayers. In the wake of the crisis, politicians look for policies that reign in the power of Wall Street, but the fundamental relationship between economic and political power has made such regulation ineffective. The Glass Steagall Act of 1933 was a direct response to the Great Depression of the 1930s. The years before the Depression were marked by robust financial growth, led by an expansion of credit through the policies of the Federal Reserve and new financial innovation, such as investment trusts (Neal and White 2012). Though these trusts were similar to a savings bank, they differed in that trusts were not regulated in which securities they could invest in and had had little government supervision. The ... Adjunction is the exercise of judicial powers use by an agency (retrieved from http://administrativelaw.uslegal.com/three types of administrative agency action rulemaking adjudication investigation/). According to this definition, adjunction deals more of a judicial process and in many ways could take longer to get regulations passed. Both of these methods have their own merits, but adjunction is the one that would require more due process , in a given situation. The reason for this is that it seems rulemaking is more of a formal process, that to get ideas out there and see what is needed in order to be beneficial to the general public. Desire And Death In The Ignorant By Jacques Ranciere Desire and death Desire is the necessary condition for self consciousness; we long to know, to be recognized or simply long to own commodities. Desire is necessary to our being; as we pursue knowledge we continue to grow and therefore become increasingly conscious of ourselves. Equally, death is the necessary condition for the evolution of a being and a natural occurrence of progress; without death man cannot progress as he remains static. This minority that Kant describes does not result as a lack of understanding but instead indicates a lack of courage to step outside of the individual s comfort zone and utilise that understanding without the direction of a master. Jacques Ranciere suggests that the master s role is to guide; however, if a master is forced to explain something to their student he is only showing the student that they are incapable of understanding through their own effort. Jacques Ranciere s students in The Ignorant School Master, represent the individual s desire to know as they tackle self teaching due to an evident language barrier leading them to become conscious of their own abilities. Once the individual is able to utilise their understanding without direction, they have then reached enlightenment and as Kant states can walk with confidence, knowing they ve learned through their own efforts. In Hegel s dialectic, the master and the slave are represented as two opposed forms of consciousness, wherein one exists merely for itself and the latter is dependent on the master and its existence relies on him. Through pursuing knowledge man moves from ignorance to knowledge, to seeking knowledge and he does so through experience; death is the condition which allows the possibility for experience. The significance of moving from depending on a master for instruction to being able to build your own theories through your own understanding is important to enlightenment; it ultimately leads the individual to liberation. • 24. Observation Of A Simulus Observation Stimulus Observation Step 1 Recently, I observed a conversation on vaping which supposedly causes mold and burns in the lungs. This caused us to pause and think, why do people try things which we all know are bad? The conversation began as we brought up something about vaping and if it had negative effects. I remembered that I had once heard that mold can grow on vape user s lungs when the vapor and chemicals reach the membrane. Upon hearing this news others needed reassurance, so we looked for information on the subject. As we brought up this fact, another participant asked ¨Why do people vape or smoke when they know it is bad for them?¨ This question brings to mind our ability as Americans for self control and the human will. Step 2 We often think that surviving is our number one top priority or instinct, but we can also observe many willingly killing themselves, albeit, slowly. In another sense each time one takes a drag of smoke or vapor and harms themselves we would expect them to realize this is not helpful but actually harmful to their survival, and throw down the habit. Instead we see them urged to use more and more until we call it an unhealthy addiction. Although it is frowned upon in American culture to smoke or use tobacco of any kind, vaping, which can as has also been seen to be harmful, is seen as perfectly socially acceptable. Even though we know both smoking and vaping are harmful, one is new, exciting, and claims to be less harmful. Americans often see these transitions and think very little of them, but they both have similar ill effects we just choose to ignore one and not the other. Our culture decides what is bad, fine, or even good not based on fact or research, but our understanding and feelings of the questioned problem. Americans do not care if something causes a problem unless it is immediate and noticeable. Americans are stubborn in some ways but very open in another, we are often very wishy washy. The modern culture can t seem to look down the line and see consequences of our present actions. The American population, resonating with this thought process, only want fast action and immediate results. When this does not occur we find any possible way of forcing it to happen ... • 25. Difference Between English Civil Law And Common Law English Common Law English Common Law and Civil Law are very much a different way that countries apply the law. One of the main differences being that the Common law is largely based on precedent which means that that the decision that a judge needs to make was most likely already made in the similar case. Because Common law uses case law as their reference for future cases, judges have a huge role in making the Common Law to what it is today and what it will be like in the future. Precedents are kept up to date through the years and are historically documented in collections of case law. The verdict in cases that follow the common law is decided by the jury which is a group of normal people that have no legal background that listens to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the there are no significant facts that are completely different the judge would be forced to use the precedent set by earlier case. To show how distinguishing works there are two cases that are commonly used. These common cases are Merritt v Merritt (1970) and Balfour v Balfour (1919) . In both of the cases, the defendant is the husband and the prosecutor is the wife and both claims are for a breach of contract. In Balfour v Balfour the husband went away from the country to, but the wife was not able to go with him. The husband orally agreed to send money to the wife while he was away working. When the relationship ended so did the payments from the husband. The wife went to court to get the contract enforced in court, but he claims failed because it was decided that there was no intention to create legal relations. The agreement was looked as a domestic arrangement made between husband and wife and not a legal one. In Merritt v Merritt the court was able to distinguish that there was a defence in the marital status of the people compared to the Balfour v Balfour case. It was aggreged that the husband would give money to the wife for her to pay the mortgage and when it fully paid off the house would be changed to only have the wife s name and no longer joint ownership. The claim succeeded, even though this agreement was written down and signed by both parties, the husband rejected to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 26. The Importance Of Humanitarian Intervention The international community has a responsibility to protect citizens against the gross human rights abuses of their states. This statement leads into the discussion of the two main doctrines that relate to human rights violations, the first being humanitarian intervention which has existed for many centuries, and places emphasis on the powers of state having the duty to protect its citizens, and if this is ignored, the international community has rights to step in. Despite the fact that, in theory, this intervention doctrine has many flaws starting with the failures seen in crisis areas such as Somalia, Bosnia and Kosovo and the debate on whether it compromises a state s sovereignty. These faults led to the creation of the newer Responsibility to Protect (R2P) doctrine, which, in its own capacity, has many faults and failures, but has seen some small victories in region such as Libya and Syria in recent years. Humanitarian intervention is by no means a new idea, it has in fact been dated back to as early the 1600 s, when Hugo Grotius promoted the idea that a ruler should be rightly dealt with if they were found to have inflicted inhumane treatment upon their subjects (Haslett, 2014). It is described as the coercive action, using armed forces, by a state, in another state without the permission of it authorities, in order to prevent and stop the suffering of the citizens in that state. It can easily be confused with peacekeeping missions, but there are two ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Speech On Fractals [R] It will be quite difficult for us if we directly jump onto the subject because it is a pure mathematics .But I assure you that the base trick is simple and once you get it in your mind, whole concept with its mathematical beauty will be yours .So, it would be quite logical if we go with the fundamentals .Okay? Let me tell you first about Fractal , A fractal is a natural phenomenon (make a note of that because it appears that by creating fractals in nature such as Lightning bolts, Heartbeats , DNA , universe is doing its own mathematical calculations). or A fractal is a mathematical set that exhibits a repeating pattern that displays at every scale. If the replication is exactly the same at every scale, it is called a Self Similar pattern. The tragedy of machismo is that a man is never quite man enough. • 32. The Economic Causes Of The First Anglo-Dutch War In the seventeenth century, overseas trade was vital for the European countries as the circulation of currency and commodities allowed nations to function. Rommelse claims in his article that this interdependence of nations caused by necessary trading lead to a rise in economic influence in politics which in turn lead to economic conflicts becoming wars between nations. I agree with his point, and believe this fact is best exemplified in Anglo Dutch relations. The first two Anglo Dutch Wars were dominated by economic conflict, but after the treaty of Breda in 1667, economic interests showed a less prevalent effect in Anglo Dutch political relationships and the third Anglo Dutch war was unique as its cause was purely political. The English Civil War began the conflict that would lead to the first Anglo Dutch war. The Parliamentary forces were largely protestant, and the parliamentary forces reached out for an alliance with the Dutch Republic to form a bond with the only protestant nation. Rommelse states that the Dutch republic realized that an alliance with England would allow for English aggression in claiming previously Dutch only trading routes. This fact is further supported by an article written by J.E. Farnell. The protestant forces now in control of England were angry at the rejection of an alliance, and in 1651 passed the Navigation Acts with the sole purpose of hurting Dutch trade with the rest of Europe. By limiting who could carry English goods or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. Analysis Of The Book The Essay Callum shouldered his sack, eyes focused on the back of the man before him, trying not to think about the ache in his feet, the soreness of his back, the grime that layered his body. Just keep marching, keep moving Callum repeated in his head like a mantra. Callum could see in the distance beyond the trees the faint outlines of green hills. Hills that he last remembered were bathed in red and flesh. Over a year has passed since the First Battle of Bull Run and so much as changed since then. With a lack of manpower and volunteers, the Confederacy issued a draft for all men of age. Of course, Callum could have bought his way out of the draft, if it were not for his rat bastard of a father. Said war would put some hair on his chest that it would be good for him and then refused to cover the draft fees. So here Callum was, trudging alongside several thousand men under General Lee s command. The Union has been trying to gain control of Virginia since the very inception of the war. After Virginia joined the Confederacy, it was rewarded with the Confederate capitol in Richmond due to its industry and factories. His hometown was the only large scale industrial city in the Confederacy. Having the capitol and the bulk of the army here allowed for easy restocking of supplies. It was a logistically sound move, but also a dangerous one. Virginia lies at the border of the Confederacy and the Union, not even a hundred miles south of the Union s capital in Washington.
