Seamus Heaney Blackberry-Picking Essay
Seamus Heaney s poem Blackberry Picking , conveys not only a literal description of picking
blackberries, but it also has a deeper meaning of the whole experience and that is death. Heaney
uses simile, imagery, and tone to reveal the deeper understanding, which is death, to the poem.
As Heaney mentions his hands being dirty and sticky from picking out many blackberries, he
uses simile to compare his sticky hands to Bluebeard s. Our palms sticky hands as Bluebeard s .
Bluebeard is a character (fictional) who murdered his wives, how can Heaney compare his sticky
palms with a murderer. Heaney compares his hands to a murderer which first gives the idea of
death. Heaney is Bluebeard (not literally).
He also introduces death to the poem by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He states I always felt like crying. It wasn t fair that all the lovely canfuls smelt of rot. Each year I
hoped they d keep, knew try would not , the tone is disappointment. He had hope of the fruit
staying sweet and fresh for a very long time but knew that that would be impossible. After going
through so much, picking the berries, he always finds himself with rotten berries. Death, in general,
can disappoint you because you can just hope that death doesn t come by when we all know that it
will.
To conclusion, Heaney reveals death in this poem by using simile, imagery, and tone. the berries
represent death as they go through the cycle of being fresh to being rotten. First, Heaney
represents death by comparing his hands to a character, Bluebeard, for ripping out the berries
from the bushes and having his hands all dirty and sticky from the hard work. Then, he uses
imagery to describe how the fruit changed by rotting. Lastly, he uses tone by revealing how
disappointed he was of seeing the fresh sweet berries turn into old sour berries that were no longer
fresh. Although he has hope, he finds himself apprehensive about the berries going to waist and
knows that the life cycle will never change and that it will never be

Equal Rights Amendment Pros And Cons Essay
The Equal Rights Amendment has struggled immensely to be enacted since its introduction to
Congress in 1923. It is an amendment with a simple goal: give women equal rights. It seems like
that would be easily passed, but there was a lot of opposition that heavily criticized and
misconstrued the intentions of the amendment. The opponents rationale for their beliefs is very
interesting, because their main arguments are simply not true. Using false information to misinform
the public is unfortunately a very common occurrence, and it is important that the truth is available
and the lies are openly debunked. By simply looking at the amendment, it is clear that opponents to
it are lying to instill fear into the public.
One of the most well known opponents of the amendment is Phyllis Schlafly. She and her
followers, known as Stop ERA, used traditional gender roles to scare the public. One of their most

Anti abortion activists describe this very negatively, saying that people would use this for
convenience like another form of birth control. They argue that this is immoral for women to
have an abortion so easily and frequently (Napikowski). There are multiple flaws in this
argument. The first is that they are focusing on what would be a miniscule segment of the
population to imply that a lot of women would frequently have abortions. Even if it did affect
them, lifting restrictions on women s reproductive rights does not make them yearn to have
abortions. But it does not affect them, it affects the women who make that decision for
themselves. Moreover, it is ultimately the individual states decision how they address and restrict
abortion. The ERA s website clearly states that the presence or absence of a state ERA does not
necessarily correlate with a state s legal climate for reproductive rights . Not surprisingly, this claim
is like all the others misrepresentative and

How Did Hans Nielsen Ruge Contribute To Religion
Hans Nielsen Hauge
Hans Nielsen Hauge was born in 3.April 1771 in Rolvsoy and died 29.March 1824. He was a
farmer son and grew up in a Christian home, with 10 siblings. His parents were pious and
enlightened farmers. He was a Norwegian revival preacher. When he was 25, he started getting a
strong religious experience. He was called to confess the Lord s name for the people and exhort
them to repent . In the next 8 years, he walked around almost the whole country. He was strong and
resilient. While on his way, he made many friends and changed thousands of women and men s
lives. Many people that disagreed with him changed their opinions after having meetings with him.
He also wrote and printed books, founded factories, and was a merchant and ship owner. Some of
the businesses he started:

Salt factory ships
Brickworks

Trading and Shipping He was never rich, but he never wished to be. He founded the Christian group

and for having founded a religious group that could be dangerous to the state. After nine years
the judgment was finally done. He ended up with a bot on 1000 riksdaler (a Swedish currency). In

war between Denmark and England for a few months so he could sell for the state salt factory

Why Country Music is better than Rap
In the world today, music has become a big influence on everyone. With the power of music,
each person has the ability to accomplish goals even if the music is country or rap. Most people
believe that music can change a person s mood or behavior which is true. Without music people
could not control the way they act. Most music has the power to affect a person s mood and other
music can get them out of control. If music did not exist the world would be tedious. Without
having music, people would not be able to motivate their moods. With the magic of music all
people tend to have clear minds and better spirits. Music has the ability to put a smile on their face
and a special song in their hearts. Even though most people feel confident about a special song, this
can change their mind about how country musicis better than rap music. When listening to country
music, people tend to get excited and be in a better mood. All country songs have the ability to
express a feelingof what the song is about. With the power of rap music people cannot express
the way they feel. Country music can allow each individual to achieve more goals in life. If
someone is having a bad day or just feeling down and out they can listen to country music and it
can change their mood right then and there. Most people that listen to rap probably feel about the
same as they did before. This is because the rap music cannot control feelings like country music
can do. People pretty much can listen to

The Limits Of Growth ( Tltg )
Introduction
At the time it was written, The Limits to Growth (TLTG) was groundbreaking in its modeling,
analysis and subsequent predictions of future trends. It is a policy paper pushing for sustainable
development, coupled with technological modernisation. This essay will examine TLTG through
an ecocentric lens. First, this paper will briefly summarise ecocentrism. Second, it will discuss
TLTG and its findings in a contemporary context. It will be argued that TLTG ultimately failed in
its ambition, because it utilised a discourse system that did not address key systematic causes of
resource depletion. TLTG recognises human s overconsumption and disregard for the Earth s finite
resources as a cause of exponential growth. However, it very much focuses on the survival of
people rather than the Earth s intrinsic value. An ecocentric perspective argues that each fragment
of the Earth has an intangible value and should be treated accordingly; a concept that TLTG does
not address.
An ecocentric perspective has the propensity to halt the over exploitation that occurs at such an
alarming rate. Ecocentrism should be applied on a systemic, domestic and individual level to avoid
the Earth s further degradation. Indeed, this would require the re structuring of capitalism.
Subsequently, a seemingly radical and alternative discourse system is needed to dominate policy
documents such as TLTG. This essay does not suggest that ecocentric perspectives would be
successful in creating

Confucianism In Chinese Art
Chinese art is one of the oldest continuous traditions in the world. China has a reoccurring theme of
different art forms which includes pottery, jade, and bronze castings. Along with that is also
painting, calligraphy, poetry, architecture and sculpture. Taoism also called (Daoism) and
Confucianism philosophies are indigenous to Chinas history and have been influenced deeply on
Chinese art.
I will begin with Taoism (Daoism) is a philosophical tradition of Chinese culture. It is based on
the writings of Lao Zi in which it emphasizes living in harmony of Tao. Tao means way; as in a
path and also a means of doing: the way of nature. Taoism promotes things like simplicity,
spontaneity, tranquility, nonconformity. Yin and yang are the most known concepts used in
Taoism. Yin and yang are two halves that creates a duality forming a whole. They are complete
when together due to the interconnection and interdependence of two opposite forces. If they
split it messes up the balance and equilibrium of their wholeness. Yin and yang are encountered
in our everyday lives like for an example night and day. Night would be yin and day would yang,
another is female and male, yin is female and yang is male. A final one would be negative and
positive, yin would be positive and negative would be yang. The symbol for yin and yang is called
the Taiji.
Confucianism is the way of life taught by Confucius Kong Fuzi in China in the 6 5th B.C.
Confucianism has deeply influenced the spiritual and

Use Of A Personal Identity Versus A Social Identity
The current post industrialized society s economy could be described as information and
service based, with the most profit being awarded to businesses and individuals who can
capitalize on the novel needs of a constantly evolving youth population. Some of the most
successful businesses are social media powerhouses, such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
These business are the ones that are able to change as quickly as their target audiences, with
tweaks to application functions being pushed through app stores on mobile devices. This paper
will focus on the primarily mobile platform, Instagram, and how it has affected the modern
concept of a personal identity versus a social identity. Instagram is an image based social media
platform mainly used by young persons under the age of 34 (Statista). Its launch in 2010 (Geoff)
originally offered a relatively simple interface, allowing users to post only perfectly square
pictures of a certain size. They eventually expanded to 15 second video clips in 2013 (Taylor),
and in 2016 introduced a Stories feature (Bradford), which allows users to post images and
videos to a personal Story that disappears after 24 hours have elapsed. These changes and updates
came at the request of users, and the observed success of other business models. Because of the
post for likes nature of the platform, many users feel compelled to gear their posts to certain
demographics or populations they post what they think is going to be most

The Importance Of Representative Democracy
Americans are too dumb for a democracy. The way representative democracy is supposed to work
is pretty simple:you protect the fundamental rights of the minority and the majority of citizens
elect representatives who will pursue the greater good for the greater number of citizens. That
would make sense but lots of citizens don t have a solid grasp on what s going on in the real world.
Today electionsare won by politicians striving to make themselves sound approachable rather than

The, National Museum Of African Art
On October 9, 2015 I went to the Smithsonian, National Museum of African Art along with
attending the Million Man March down in Washington D.C. The experiences were wonderful and
I was very excited to be at both events. While at the museum I took two tours one at 10 am that
was led by a woman named Nkechi Obi. She talked about docent African Arts. The next one was
shortly after at11 am that was led by a teen ambassador named Nicholas Stewart, who was very
intelligent. He talked about numerous pieces throughout the museum that had some significance to
younger minds so I found that very helpful. After the tour I spent some time down at the mall in
DC in which faced the Capitol. This was the Million Man Marchthat was a very popular event that
brought out many people. I would describe both events as lectures that were powerful and time
put to good use. The reason I chose to go to the African Art Museum is because I have been there
before and I enjoy my time when I go. The tours at the museum consisted of talks about certain
pieces in the museum that fell in a category the tourist wanted to focus on. Nkechi Obi was my
first tour guide and the title of her tour was Docent African Arts . Her goal throughout the tour was
to show pieces of artwork that showed what Africans may have gone through in the past in slavery.
One piece that she focused on that I want to highlight was Southern Landscape by Walter Williams
Roots. In this piece there various things going on in the photo.

2Cloud Computing 2.1Why Cloud Computing In the present world, almost everyone is
connected through internet to access anything via a single click. Some may prefer Facebook as
their socializing media whereas others may use Twitter or LinkedIn. Similarly, some use Gmail
account whereas others prefer Hotmail or Yahoo. All these can be accessed from anywhere in
the world via any device such as laptop, smartphone, etc. There is no restriction to use it only
from a specific device or using a specific network. For years, all companies no matter whether it
is small concern or huge, it always relies on the storage of documents internally which can be
accessed by the user/client only via the internal network. Introduction of Cloud Service allows the
user/client to store, download and access their files anywhere in the world using internet. This
technology also provides much better organised computing with the centralized storage space,
processing, memory and the bandwidth. To better understand let us consider the web based email
services like Gmail or Hotmail which delivers the Cloud Computing service to the user. Here the
Gmail/Hotmail user can access their emails in the cloud from any computer with a browser and the
internet connection without bothering the type of hardware in that computer. Here the emails are
hosted on the Google s or Microsoft s servers and is not stored locally on the user s

The Importance Of Computational Thinking
Introduction
Computational Thinking, first introduced by Jeanette Wing (2006), a computer science researcher
at Carnegie Mellon University, as a strategy to solve problems where computing is part of the
solution. Computers help make daily discoveries in almost all areas of society expanding our
understanding of the world. Problem solving using the power of computers requires teaching
students how to confront problems in a way that creates these solutions (Wing, 2006, p. 33). In her
article Computational Thinking, Wing proposes that this strategy should be a fundamental skill,
just like reading and writing, a foundation for every student (p. 33).
Fundamental Skill
Computational thinking was not a new idea in 2006. Envisioning the potential of computers in
learning, Seymour Papert, a mathematician and learning theorist, in the early 1960s recognized that
computers could be used not just to deliver information and instruction, but also to transform
learning. He was a pioneer of children using computers as instruments for learning and for
enhancing creativity, innovation, and concretizing computational thinking. (Seymour Papert)
Papert earned two doctorates in mathematics, but what inspired him was the four years of work
under Jean Piaget at the International Centre of Genetic Epistemology, University of Geneva.
Piaget s influences are evident in Papert s work on how children create a sense of their world.
(Blikstein, 2013,) The constructivist principles found in both

Food Will Win The War Chapter 1 Summary
Ian Mosby s Food Will Win the War is a comprehensive survey of the policy and social culture
around food in Canada during the Second World War. Divided into five distinct chapters Mosby s
central argument is that food served as a catalyst for cultural unity, evolution of political policy
and definition of gender roles during the period of the war. The five chapters of FoodWill Win the
War are divided largely thematically rather than chronologically. Chapter s One and Five each
stretch back a little farther into the prewar and postwar period respectively to provide a proper
narrative on the resolution of the malnutrition crisis in Canada during this time. That said both
bookend chapters discuss the period of the war proper and also carry... Show more content on

Essentially covering the same timeline the chapters differ by covering different thematic content.
Chapter Two largely deals with the rationing and price control Canadians faced during this
period. The key aspect of the culture surrounding these policies Mosby discusses is the
remarkable popularity of these measures and the implications of that popularity on Canadian
culture and politics. The argument is made that the measures lead to an enjoyed level of equality
and unity amongst Canadians from disparate backgrounds. This idea of national unity is also
supported by the central topics of Chapter Three in which Mosby tackles the concept of the
housoldier. This is the term used to discuss the role of Canadian women in volunteer labour and
consumer practices centering around, unsurprisingly, food. This chapter is probably the closest to
what one would imagine a book entitled food will win the war would contain but Mosby heavily
incorporates social and gender history in order to present the new situation of women during the
course of the war. Similarly Chapter Four also expresses the experiences of women but does so
through different mediums. Heavily incorporating primary sources Mosby examines recipes (the
majority of which written by women) published in newspapers and cookbooks in the time period.
The blending of cultural and economic boundaries is used by to reiterate the idea of a national
unity and equality that simply did not transfer into the post war

The Issues On The Home Front
There is no hiding the problems in the United States. Put that on hold: how about the issues on
the home front. That s right, there is a service opportunity in our area right now, and we need
your help! How can you help, you say? The service doesn t require donations of money, but we
are seeking your time and energy to assist our local Native American tribe. The drive to help is
three main purposes:
To educate the public that are unaware of the circumstances on the South Dakota Indian
Reservations.
To serve the youth in the Yankton SiouxReservation.
To take action in resolving overdue concerns in our local communities.
Education, Service, and Action are the three tasks that must be met to accomplish our purposes.
What does it really mean to serve someone or something? The United States has become out of
touch with the idea of serving someone. When we think of service we think of a server in the
food industry. When was the last time you had the opportunity to serve someone whole
heartedly without expecting anything in return? Have you ever heard of Pay It Forward? In the
average day of a middle class citizen when is there time between a 40 hour a week job, a family
to take care of, and any extra time to have for yourself where does the time to serve come from?
We would assume that most of the time we expect the favor to be returned no matter who it is.
And sometimes we even get a little ticked off, if it s not fair that we worked harder than the other
person. Even

effect of lead on the tubular urate transport causing diminished urate excretion. In the case of lead

to playing football during his time at Harvard, he had great respect for the game. Furthermore,
Roosevelt believed the roughness nature of the game was necessary. Because of this, injuries
ranging from severe to fatal became standard. However, as stated in the reading by Watson,

During my observations in the different classrooms at The childcare Center , I learned about the
proper environment, the fundamentals of the teachers lesson plans, their health and safety
regulations, their approach to guidance and discipline, and overall quality childcare. The center has
eight different levels of age groups; each of them has their own curriculum based on their age and
developmental needs. This curriculum changes and has a new theme each month that helps the lead
teachers to be able to start their lesson plans each week. From infants all the way to pre K the
lesson plans include fine motor, gross motor, art and sensory, math and manipulatives, music and
movement, language including both signing and Spanish.

I saw that the staff praised and encouraged the children often without using any form of time out or
negative words.
As a lead teacher they take on many responsibilities from writing lesson plans, following
curriculum, preparing art projects ahead of time, lead and teach children, overseeing their
assistants and ensuring they are following the licensing rules and procedures, and keeping a clean
and safe environment at all times. To keep each classroom in ratio sometimes there will be one or
two assistants that will take on the duty of primary caregiver of one or more children depending on
the ratio in the room. Many of the assistants have little experience in the child care and are currently
in college. The best way to know if the person is a good fit it to do a working interview. During a
working interview the applicant will be placed in one or more rooms to see how they respond to
the children as well as how the children respond to them. Most of the assistants don t have more
than a high school diploma; but they are required to be CPR certified, and maintain training hours
throughout the year. Infant A starts with babies as young as six weeks up until about six months
when the infants become mobile. The lead teacher in this room just recently took a new position
up front and Ms. Ayla who just received her CDA has taken over her position. There is a one

Reviewing Waltz s Man, The State, And War

Reviewing Waltz s Man, the State, and War
Throughout the years, scholars have attempted to solve the complex puzzle of why states make and
refrain from making war (Sjoberg, 2012, p. 1). Kenneth Waltz uniquely approaches the puzzle
through three levels of analysis, or as Waltz calls them, images: within man, within the structure of
separate states, within the state system (Waltz, 1959, p. 12). To describe how each image
approaches the causes of war, Waltz pulls from the work of prominent scholars, analyzing the
strengths and weaknesses of each argument and image. Ultimately, Waltz contends that the third
image, or the international system, is the most cogent explanation of the recurrence of war but that
the three images are interrelated and all hold significance for advancing knowledge of the causes of
war.
First Image: Within the Nature of Man Waltz explains that the first image of international relations
uses the nature and behavior of man to account for the important causes of war, consistent with
the basic tenants of Classical Realism. Wars result from selfishness, from misdirected aggressive
impulses, from stupidity, Waltz states. Other causes are secondary and have to be interpreted in
the light of these factors (1959, p. 16). If the first image is correct in identifying the primary
causes of war, then he asserts that it leads one to believe that men must be uplifted and enlightened
if war is to be

and aspirin may also be one of its causes.
This medication is used also to deal with Zollinger Ellison syndrome: a kind of tumor(pancreatic

Important information to know:
1. Esomeprazole belongs to a category of medication known as proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) that
obstructs the acid producation process by the human stomach.
2. Many people think that eating spicy foods and taking stress can cause ulcers. As a matter of
fact, these elements do not cause ulcers but may however worsen the rate of peptic ulcers. This is
perhaps what we must recognize instantaneously in order to avoid many complications while using
Nexium as a purposeful medicine.
3. Nexium must be used exactly as advised by the doctor.Having it in lesser or greater quantity can
cause serious illnesses.
4. As per recent study, taking a dose of Nexium an hour before food yields best results.

Satire In Catch 22
In 1944, at age 21, author Joseph Heller was deployed to the Italian front of World War Two.
While there, he flew 60 missions as a B 25 Bombardier; however he claims that most of these
flights were merely milk runs . After his return, Heller expressed that he had been considering a
novel about a flier facing the end of his missions, and in 1953 the idea for Catch 22simply came to
him. Part of the inspiration for the novelcame from two friends of his that had been wounded in
the war. Heller reported that one of them told some funny stories about war experiences, while the
other friend could not see how any humor could be associated with the horror of war, (Daugherty
2011). In his novel he decided to look at the war and the characters... Show more content on

Literary scholar Robert Brustein states that the novel is one of the most bitterly funny works in
the language, (Brustein 2009). The main catch and reason for the title is the unwritten law that
keeps Yossarian from leaving the military. It states that one must be insane to continue flying
missions and to be sent home; however, as soon as one claims insanity and requests to go home
they are proven sane and must stay. Yossarian also remains trapped due to another one of these
so called catch 22s. His squadron has been forced to fly more than double the missions required
for one tour solely because his colonel, Colonel Cathcart, wishes to be in the Saturday Evening
Post. Because of this Cathcart signs his men up for the most dangerous missions and continually
raises the number of missions needed to be released when someone becomes close (Brustein
2009). Many more examples can be found in the novel as well. These situations make one laugh
due to their sheer stupidity and lack of logic, while also showing the unreasonable power the
officers in the military have and the ludicrous things they do with that

Challenges Business Operations Performance
CHALLENGES BUSINESS OPERATIONS PERFORMANCES FACE A business can only
seize extra ordinary opportunities if it only becomes good at the average ordinary operations.
How do you ensure your business profits are escalating even as you stay focused on achieving
revenue growth? At this point, excellence in business operations turns out to be grave. Operational
excellence is a philosophy principle in leadership, problem solving and teamwork that results in a
consistent improvements throughout the business as I focuses on the customers needs, employee
empowerment, and activity optimization along the process. Whenever people, systems and
processes in any business perfectly operate efficiently and productively, excellence is certain and
goals and priorities become achievable. This state should however be easy to achieve in such an
ordeal world. There a few barriers within the business can keep it from attaining operational
excellence namely: 1. Lack of Collaboration A business with well coordinated exercises that merges
discrete steps into joined effort will experience continues and sustainable improvements. This is
however a challenge if each organization s function acts independently without taking into account
where and how the rest of the functions can add up to their development plans. Operational
strategies would be easier to implement if only employees could collaborate and unite to construct
and act on a single plan with a general goal and clear accountability for

Guinea Pigs Personal Statement
I have always had an affinity for animals; my entire life I have been surrounded by dogs, cats,
parrots, guinea pigs, and other miscellaneous creatures. Part my passion for animals turned to
showing guinea pigs competitively during middle and high school for five years. Sowing guinea
pigs is much like showing rabbits; the quality of the animaldetermines show placement. At the
height of my showing career, I had over one hundred guinea pigs for breeding and showing that I

connections with people from varying backgrounds and regions, and I even attended shows that
were held in Canada. I put in a lot of hours taking care of and handling my animals and was

Ernest Rohm Was A German Military Officer And Founding...
Ernest Rohm was a German military officer and founding member of the Nazi party, making him
a close companion and early ally of Adolf Hitler. But, by 1934, Hitler had come to see him as a
potential rival and had him executed during the Night of the Long Knives.
The historical context of Germany in Rohm s rise in power was what thrust him into the position of
high power and authority. In a time of a fractured Germany, the Treaty of Versailles had reduced the
German army to just 100,000 men, which was something that greatly angered all of the German
officials, including Rohm. Therefore, Rohm notoriously fought against the communists who had
taken over Munich in 1919, using brutality in order to eliminate the communists and socialists that
helped, along with others, to destabilize the early years of the Weimar Republic. Born in Munich in
1887, Rohm had a violent relationship with his father which is a direct link to his own violent
nature, and what prompted Rohm s troubled mind to never accept the fact that Germany had lost
World War One. He also believed that the loathed Treaty of Versailles had been imposed on the
Germans by hated and traitorous socialist politicians. Rohm had a possessed hatred for the
democratic republic, and had an extreme flair for politics and natural ability of an organizer. Based
in Munich it was almost inevitable that Rohm would have heard about a young political party that
advocated Rohm views that he held. In 1919 while still an officer in the

Allah says in the Qur an not to despise one another. So the criterion in Islam is not color or social

Realism In Toni Bambara s Blues Aint No Mockin Bird
Toni Bambara s Blues Aint No Mockin Bird portrays a sense of realism through the words and
actions of the various characters dealing with the conflict of being filmed without permission.
Bambara s ability to communicate characters such as Granny through her unique dialect,
personality, and ethnic background all contribute toward a well written narrative with a nicely
established group of personas. The author breaks the rules of conventionally written prose by
including specific terms and awkward spelling arrangements in her story in order to delve further
into the lives of her characters. The most important way in which she is able to do this is by using
a distinct set of dialect representative of the southern vernacular.
Bambara uses dialect to further enhance the reader s experience while engaging with the story. It
feels rather realistic because the grammar is in line of which is spoken by typical African American
southerners. While some may call it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bamara keeps the old art of storytelling alive by having the characters stay true to their heritage.
They fight to get the cameramen off of their property, similar to how Martin Luther King fought

Human Capital And Its Impact On The Success Of The Company...
Companies consist of both intangible and tangible assets and each has an impact on the success of
the company. The tangible assets are things that you can physically see examples include buildings,

intellectual property, patents, company reputation and human capital (Lev,2004). Human Capital

valuable asset within a company which must be protected. Company s must have a strong strategic
recruitment and compensation plan in order to maintain its human capital and stay competitive.
There are eleven competencies that most well managed companies have and if they fail in either of
them they lose their competitive advantage. The eleven competencies are talent, speed, shared mind
set and coherent brand identity, accountability, collaboration, learning, leadership, customer
connectivity, strategic unity, innovation, and efficiency (Ulrich, Smallwood, 2004). In a lot of
companies several of these competencies are a part of the employee performance review. Tying
these organizational competencies into the employee performance review process helps to ensure
that the organization is successful.
Talent is one of the competencies that can be seen in a successful organization therefore a company

The Consequences Of The Bosnia War On The Bosnian War
The Bosnian War was a brutal and inhumane conflict that featured genocide and the advent of ethnic
cleansing and mass rape as instruments of modern warfare. The case study War in Bosnia recounts
the tragic events of that war. Specifically, the article emphasizes the numerous and systematic
atrocities perpetrated by the Serb forces upon the Bosnian Muslim and Croat civilian populations
throughout the country during the course of the conflict, specifically emphasizing the genocide the
Serbs committed against the Muslim population. The article points out the international outcry that
ensued against the Serbs and their genocidal tactics was what spurred the United States to
intervene militarily in Bosnia against the Serbs under President Bill Clinton. The article notes that
the atrocities and violence did not subside until the NATO bombing campaign weakened the
Serbian position in the conflict and forced the Serbian leader Milosevic to enter peace talks. Based
upon the account provided in the article, the United States and NATO were justified in intervening
in Bosnia to stop the killing of noncombatants in my view. I believe this is the case on the basis of
just war theory, as outlined by O Brien. I think it is fairly obvious, based upon the account, that
stopping the genocide and ethnic cleansing (among other atrocities) being committed against
civilians would qualify as a just cause. I think that beyond this the Clinton administration and
NATO probably had the right

Dna Profiling And The Criminal Justice System
In November of 1983, 15 year old Lynda Mann was found raped and murdered on a deserted
road, and although police were able to obtain a semen sample from her murderer the case remained
unsolved. In 1986 the killer struck again murdering 15 year old Dawn Ashworth, once again
leaving behind semen, but this time the police were able to use DNAprofiling to match the semen
to a suspect. Colin Pitchfork became the first person to be caught based on mass DNA screening,
and the first to be convicted based on DNA profiling. The use of Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) in
the criminal justice system has greatly tipped the scales in favor of law enforcement, and
changed the world that we live in. Court cases that in the past relied heavily on eye witness
testimony and circumstantial evidence now have science to back them up. DNA analysis has
revolutionized the criminal justice system, and even though there are some flaws, the use of DNA
evidence should continue to be used by law enforcement. While DNA profiling is still considered
to be fairly new , the analysis of the human genetic variation began more than a century ago with
the discovery of the human ABO blood group. Karl Landsteiner realized that these variations in
humans could be used to solve crimes. ABO could be used to exclude suspects, but police needed
something that could definitively point the finger at a suspect. In 1984, Alec Jeffreysdiscovered
hypervariable loci, also known as minisatellites. He discovered that the

Open Door Policy Case Study
The Open Door Policy is a case study to assist those interested in growing as educational leaders.
Consistency in leadership is critical to the progress and growth of schools and educational
institutions. Creek Middle School had six principals in seven years and each leader possessed a
different leadership style. Some involved all stakeholders in making decisions and others worked in
isolation. Consistency, collaboration, and communication are key components that drive the culture
and climate of successful schools. As leaders it is important that professional relationships are
created and nurtured in order to have an environment where teachers and staff are willing to work
collaboratively to achieve success. Creek Middle Schoolstruggled in many areas as a result of the
constant change in principals. Although there were various reasons for the many changes in
leadership, the district is responsible for ensuring that everything is done to... Show more content on

Soil Invertebrate Diversity Lab Report
Effect of Woody Litter Mass on Soil Invertebrate Diversity
Discussion
Hannah Willis After performing our experiment we came to the conclusion that the amount of
woody litter mass did not have a statistically significant effect on the amount of soil invertebrate
diversity of an area. In each of the different areas, the P Values were above 0.05 meaning that there
was no significant correlation between woody litter mass and soil invertebrate diversity. There were
36 total invertebrates found between all the areas we measured with 8 different species. We also
found that species diversity between all the groups ended up being 1.27 which means the diversity
in the environments was very low. The evenness was 0.71 which is closer to 1, so the communities

It is important that more studies are done so that we can make correlations between the two in
order to ensure ecosystem survival. In every ecosystem, every component from a gene to a
species has a role to fill in an ecosystem. If it is not understood how above ground components
effect below ground diversity, we will not have the knowledge we need to better understand what
keeps an ecosystem thriving. Without this knowledge we would lack the tools we need to
understand how to keep biodiversity at high levels to ensure no extinction of a species or
community. With pollution, deforestation, and other harmful effects on the environment taking
over areas, it is necessary to the survival of life that we begin to make these correlations to
understand biodiversity and the harm that lack of above ground diversity can have on the base

Production of Alcohol by Fermentation Essay
Production of Alcohol by Fermentation
Introduction/ Aim:
Yeasts are microbes that produce carbon dioxide and alcohol from sugars. This is called
fermentation. In this assignment I am going to try two methods of making alcohol from fruit juice
(apple juice). One uses free yeast cells; the other uses immobilized yeast cells.
The process of using microorganisms to make useful products from an energy source is called
fermentation. This is carried out in large vessels (open or closed) called fermenters.
Microorganisms are cheap and easy to grow; they can be used to make antibiotics (penicillin), and
useful proteins (insulin). It can also be used for foods such as Quorn. Quorn is also called ... Show

Spiritual Murder in Buchner s Woyzeck Essay
Spiritual Murder in Georg Buchner s Woyzeck
Throughout dramatic history, tragedies have depicted a hero s humanity being stripped from him.
Usually, as in Shakespeare s classic paradigms, we see the hero, whether King Lear or Othello,
reduced from his original noble stature to nothingness and death. Yet GeorgBuchner s fragmentary
play Woyzeck shows us a protagonist already stripped of humanity, transformed into and treated as
an animal. Indeed, Woyzeck, far from being a simple tale of a village murder, shows us the
systematic debasement, even intellectual and spiritual murder, of the protagonist and all his class.
Like August Strindberg s Ghost Sonata, Woyzeck identifies most of its characters only by... Show

Others, in turn, speak of her as an animal, especially the Drum Major. At first sight of her, he
says she is good enough for the propagation of cavalry regiments and the breeding of drum
majors! (scene III), as if she were nothing but an animal to be bred. Later, he repeats Hell, let s
breed a race of drum majors, hey? and calls her You wildcat! (scene VI). Woyzeck, crushed by
visible evidence of Marie s infidelity, cries Why doesn t God blow out the sun so that everything
can roll around in lust, man and woman, man and beast. They ll do it in broad daylight, they ll do
it on our hands, like flies. (scene XI).
Animal imagery especially surrounds Woyzeck himself, in his interactions with the characters
who oppress and dehumanize him. The Captain sighs that I feel sorry for horses when I think
that the poor beasts have to go everywhere on foot. (scene IX). Yet he cares even less for
Woyzeck, for he ridicules the poor soldier mercilessly about Marie s unfaithfulness. As Woyzeck
hurries away, the Captain says that tall rascal takes off like the shadow before a spider (scene
IX) Woyzeck is comparable to an insect, in the captain s view. But the Doctor is the most
persistent and obvious character is his disparagement of Woyzeck as an animal. He complains
that Woyzeck pissed on the wall like a dog and exclaims that if it were a Proteus that were dying !
(scene VIII). Woyzeck has

Russell s Theory Of Denoting In The Principles Of Mathematics
2.1.2. Problem with the Theory of Denoting in The Principles of Mathematics:
Russell s theory of denoting as exposed in The Principles of Mathematics considers that whatever
can be mentioned is a thing or a term i.e., an object. Thus, things, whether exist(like, the present
queen of England) or not (like, the golden mountain) have being if it can be used as the logical
subject of a proposition. This view of Russell is closely akin to that of Meinong s. However, there
are some points of disagreement too. Two main theses of Meinong s theory of object ( Гњber
Gegenstandstheorie) are i) There are objects that do not exist. (T1) ii) Every object that does not
exist is yet constituted in some way or other and thus may be made the subject of a true
predication. (T2) This is, in fact, the doctrine of Aussersen independence of sosein (character) from
sein (being). Meinong thinks, even if an object happens to be unthinkable, it is something having at
least the property of being unthinkable. And, whether or not something exists or has any other
kind of being, it is an object i.e., something about which one is conscious, according to Meinong.
Russell s view at the time of The Principles of Mathematics, resembles Meinong s in that Russell
also holds that every object of thought has some being. In The Principles of Mathematics , Russell

Friar Lawrence To Blame Essay
In the play, Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, I say the deaths of Romeo and Juliet
were Friar Lawrence s fault. I say this because he didn t involve one of the main characters,
Romeo, in a plan that later was ruined because Romeo didn t know. I also say this because Friar
Lawrence was quite a hypocrite. Primarily, I say Friar Lawrence is to blame for Romeo and
Juliet s deaths because he did not involve Romeo in a plan to have Juliet appear dead,so she
could get away from her parents, and get out of marrying Paris. First off, Friar Lawrence sent
Friar John, but he did not get the message to Romeo, that he needed to go to the Capulet s tomb
and get Juliet away when she wakes up. Because Romeo did not know about the poison, when
Balthasar tells Romeo she was dead, he went to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To be specific, Friar Lawrence told Romeo when he and Juliet wanted Friar Lawrence to marry
them, I stand on sudden haste. Wisely and slow, they stumble that run fast. Here he is saying to
take things slow, don t rush things. Later on when Friar Lawrence and Juliet were trying to
make a plan on how to avoid Juliet having to marry Paris the next day, and instead of making a
well thought out plan, he quickly made one, and it failed. This shows that he is a hypocrite for
not taking it slow, even though that s the advice he gave Romeo earlier. As a matter of fact, he
then married Romeo and Juliet, trying to end the feud between their families, but later on he
knew he would be punished if the families knew he married them. Also when people were
coming towards the tomb, he wanted Juliet to run and stay with the nuns so no one would know
what he did. Friar Lawrence also rushed the part of the plan involving Romeo, that part failed, and
that is where is all went wrong. Friar Lawrence is a hypocrite for not following his own advice he
gave, and not sticking with his plan all along, stop the feud the Montagues and Capulets

Downfalls of Losing Yourself in the Arms of Another Essay
In this essay, I will be analyzing Dreamland by Sarah Dessen for feminist themes. Sarah Dessen
is not a self proclaimed feminist, but this book does have topics that relate strongly to feminism.
It is a book about intimate partner violence, family dynamics, and a girl s journey to self
discovery. It starts out as a typically books where a female meets a bad boy , but things soon take
a dangerous turn. It shows how power and control in relationships can be very unhealthy, and also
focuses the blame on the perpetrator, instead of the victim like many other books fall in the trap of.
The book also, like most, has some downfalls, most clearly is the lack of diversity within the
characters. While this book might not be intentionally feminist,... Show more content on

Caitlin described her mother as the emotion of the family, while the father was the fact keeper.
Women s Voices, Feminist Visions describe a traditional marriage as the husband providing the
family wage and the wife will take primary responsibility for the home and children (WV, FV
365). The book seemed to imply that their marriage was very much like that before Cass ran
away, but once she did things changed. Caitlin s mother was not focused on Caitlin at all,
instead searching continuously for Cass while ignoring the house and Caitlin. Caitlin s father
expressed more interest in Caitlin s whereabouts, but mostly focused on the mother and trying to
help her. The relationship between Rogerson and Caitlin started out strangely. They met at a
party, where she was expected to hang out with her cheerleader friends and flirt with football
players. However when she saw drug dealer Rogerson, she knew that being with him would
change the course of her life, because it was completely new territory, something that her sister
Cass would never of done. In the beginning, the power between the couple was very evident.
Rogerson picked her up from her house, chose where to go, and what they would do. Caitlin
constantly was amazed by how smart Rogerson was and loved the new things he made her feel.
Their relationship illustrated a very realistic view of the cycle of abuse. It showed the tension

The Causes Of The Spanish War
. In 1937, following his visit to the Spanish Civil War, W. H Auden wrote a poem entitled Spain
1937 which sought to address both the causes and the history of the Spanish war as well as what
might become of its future. The poem was widely celebrated and prompted a response from
George Orwell in the essay Inside the Whale. Orwell had also served in Spain and detailed his
experiences in the book Homage to Catalonia in which he described the ill ordered state of things
in the war. While Orwell considered Auden s work one of the few decent things to be written
about the war, he nevertheless objected strongly to Auden s use of the phrase necessary murder in
the lines: To the deliberate increase in the chances of death The conscious acceptance of guilt in the
necessary murder Both Auden and Orwell understood the term murder differently and interpreted
the phrase as such. Orwell considered the term murder as far too lightly used by Auden. In Inside
the Whale Orwell considers Auden s use of the term necessary murder as used by someone for
whom murder... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In war, the matter of such deliberate actions is no longer with the soldier but only those who
command him. Death in a war is not only about killing an enemy but also about surviving oneself.
The term murder therefore is a word misrepresentative of the situation in a war. Possibly because
of his scruples regarding the understanding of the term necessary murder , Auden later changed the
phrase from necessary murder to the more neutral phrase the fact of murder and then later
disowned the poem all together. This may not have been Orwell s intention seeing as he had
otherwise thought well of the poem. Nevertheless, Auden was clearly uncomfortable with the
impersonal nature of the poem, as well as espousing political views he had had come to

The Lobed Bowl
The Lobed bowl with seated figure and attendants was an important art material to the caliphates
and dynasties that were present at the late 12th and early 13th century. The bowl signified artistic
achievement, exemplified by the development of painted decoration in Iraq in the 11th century. In
this paper, I will be stating some observations I made from studying the Lobed Bowl, these
observations will include: the material, surface texture, use of color, size and the composition use of
line. The Lobbed Bowl signifies royalty. The curvy edge of the bowl. The curve line of the bowl
conveys energy. The soft, shallow curves have a pleasing, sensual quality and a softening effect on
the composition. The edge of the lobbed bowl gently leads the... Show more content on

There is also a presence of regularly repeating pattern of lines around the bowl. These lines are
painted in different colors and comes from the bottom of the bowl upward. I believe the lobed
bowl must have been inspired by culture. The luxurious look of the bowl portrays that it was used
by the king or members of the royal family for. I believe that the use and the beauty of the lobed
bowl go hand in hand. They are two inseparable aspects of perfection, being a material used by the
royal family.
Inside the bowl, we can see people seating on horses. I believe these people represent the palace
guards, or guards who were victorious in a war and are celebrating on their horses. At the center
of the bowl, we see a figure seated and two people attending to the figure. I believe that the figure
seated was the king during that time, and the people beside him were his attendants. When we
look inside bowl, next to the seated figure are camels. Since Camel are used by merchants for
caring merchandise, I would say that the camels represented the business or economy of that

The European Economic Community and the Euro Dollar Essay
The European Economic Community and the Euro Dollar
The European Economic Community (EEC), also known as the common market, was established
in 1957 through the treaty of Rome signed between Belgium, France, Italy, Luxembourg, the
Netherlands, and Germany in order to achieve economic cooperation. It has since worked for the
free movement of labor and capital, the abolition of trusts and cartels, and the development of joint
and reciprocal policies on labor, social welfare, agriculture, transport, and foreign trade. Over the
years, monetary union has been suggested by the members of the EEC and was finally attained on
January 1,1999 when eleven European countries, which are now collectively referred to as
Euroland, introduced a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Euro is the newly created currency of the European Economic Community, a currency that
became legal tender on January 1, 1999. By 2002, euro notes and coins will replace the Austrian
schilling, Belgian franc, Finnish markka, French franc, German mark, Irish punt, Italian lira,
Luxembourg franc, Dutch guilder, Portuguese escudo, and Spanish peseta. These 11 nations will
share a common currency, a single monetary policy, and a single foreign exchange rate policy.
Currencies not only serve as a standardized value of measurement, so that we have a consistent
way of expressing value, but they also function as an efficient means of payment. Also they serve
as a store of value, allowing us to transport wealth easily over a distance and to store it for
indefinite periods of time. There are two main reasons for this monetary union within the EEC
(European Economic Community), one being a political reason and the other an economic reason.
The political arguments are that a single currency will further unite the European alliance, which
was formed after WWII, by forcing Europe to act as a whole rather than as single states. This
could perhaps eliminate nationalism and bring unity to this continent, which has been plagued by
war twice in the last century. The Economic reasons for the euro project can be found in the
relatively poor performance of the European economies over the last twenty years or more. Europe
has, for a long time, suffered form

City Of Boston, Massachusetts Essay
City of Boston, Massachusetts
The major cities of the United States are all very interesting, after I analyzed my decision; I
decided to research the great city of Boston, Massachusetts. Boston was founded on September 17,
1630 and has a rich historical background making it a very important city in the United States. The
city of Boston was the home to several important events during the American Revolution such as:
the Boston Massacre, Boston Tea Party, the Siege of Boston, Battle of Lexington and Concord,
and the Battle of Bunker Hill. (Snow, Caleb H. (1828). History of Boston. Abel Bowen.) These
were all significant events that helped shape the city Boston has become today. Boston is a Bay

and colleges in the city, it has over 100 universities and colleges in the Greater Boston area.
Tourism is a huge part of its successful economy, in 2004 tourists spent $7.9 billion and made
the city one of the ten most popular tourist locations in the country. (Boston: Economy. Thomson
Gale (Thomson Corporation) 2006.) Boston is located in Suffolk County and is by Cambridge

the Boston Bruins hockey team. Boston is a very sports oriented city and it plays a big part of
their heritage. Also many of their sports teams have a reputation of winning, so that encourages the
fans for these teams to continue their support for them. One other major sports event in general to

The Immortal Life Of Henrietta Lacks Summary
Objectivity is an important factor in the world of journalism. Some journalist falls short of
objectivity while others seem may seem to contain too much of it, abandoning the artistry of
persuasion. Today we live in a world where our own president claims the mainstream news outlets

Whether this is ethically correct is also something to ask ourselves. JournalistHoward A. Myrick,

  • 2. Seamus Heaney Blackberry-Picking Essay Seamus Heaney s poem Blackberry Picking , conveys not only a literal description of picking blackberries, but it also has a deeper meaning of the whole experience and that is death. Heaney uses simile, imagery, and tone to reveal the deeper understanding, which is death, to the poem. As Heaney mentions his hands being dirty and sticky from picking out many blackberries, he uses simile to compare his sticky hands to Bluebeard s. Our palms sticky hands as Bluebeard s . Bluebeard is a character (fictional) who murdered his wives, how can Heaney compare his sticky palms with a murderer. Heaney compares his hands to a murderer which first gives the idea of death. Heaney is Bluebeard (not literally). He also introduces death to the poem by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He states I always felt like crying. After going through so much, picking the berries, he always finds himself with rotten berries. To conclusion, Heaney reveals death in this poem by using simile, imagery, and tone. the berries represent death as they go through the cycle of being fresh to being rotten. • 3. Equal Rights Amendment Pros And Cons Essay The Equal Rights Amendment has struggled immensely to be enacted since its introduction to Congress in 1923. It is an amendment with a simple goal: give women equal rights. It seems like that would be easily passed, but there was a lot of opposition that heavily criticized and misconstrued the intentions of the amendment. The opponents rationale for their beliefs is very interesting, because their main arguments are simply not true. Using false information to misinform the public is unfortunately a very common occurrence, and it is important that the truth is available and the lies are openly debunked. By simply looking at the amendment, it is clear that opponents to it are lying to instill fear into the public. One of the most well known opponents of the amendment is Phyllis Schlafly. She and her followers, known as Stop ERA, used traditional gender roles to scare the public. One of their most common ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Anti abortion activists describe this very negatively, saying that people would use this for convenience like another form of birth control. They argue that this is immoral for women to have an abortion so easily and frequently (Napikowski). There are multiple flaws in this argument. The first is that they are focusing on what would be a miniscule segment of the population to imply that a lot of women would frequently have abortions. Even if it did affect them, lifting restrictions on women s reproductive rights does not make them yearn to have abortions. But it does not affect them, it affects the women who make that decision for themselves. Moreover, it is ultimately the individual states decision how they address and restrict abortion. The ERA s website clearly states that the presence or absence of a state ERA does not necessarily correlate with a state s legal climate for reproductive rights . Not surprisingly, this claim is like all the others misrepresentative and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Why Country Music is better than Rap In the world today, music has become a big influence on everyone. With the power of music, each person has the ability to accomplish goals even if the music is country or rap. Most people believe that music can change a person s mood or behavior which is true. Without music people could not control the way they act. Most music has the power to affect a person s mood and other music can get them out of control. If music did not exist the world would be tedious. Without having music, people would not be able to motivate their moods. With the magic of music all people tend to have clear minds and better spirits. Music has the ability to put a smile on their face and a special song in their hearts. Even though most people feel confident about a special song, this can change their mind about how country musicis better than rap music. When listening to country music, people tend to get excited and be in a better mood. All country songs have the ability to express a feelingof what the song is about. With the power of rap music people cannot express the way they feel. Country music can allow each individual to achieve more goals in life. If someone is having a bad day or just feeling down and out they can listen to country music and it can change their mood right then and there. Most people that listen to rap probably feel about the same as they did before. This is because the rap music cannot control feelings like country music can do. People pretty much can listen to ... • 6. The Limits Of Growth ( Tltg ) Introduction At the time it was written, The Limits to Growth (TLTG) was groundbreaking in its modeling, analysis and subsequent predictions of future trends. It is a policy paper pushing for sustainable development, coupled with technological modernisation. This essay will examine TLTG through an ecocentric lens. First, this paper will briefly summarise ecocentrism. Second, it will discuss TLTG and its findings in a contemporary context. It will be argued that TLTG ultimately failed in its ambition, because it utilised a discourse system that did not address key systematic causes of resource depletion. TLTG recognises human s overconsumption and disregard for the Earth s finite resources as a cause of exponential growth. However, it very much focuses on the survival of people rather than the Earth s intrinsic value. An ecocentric perspective argues that each fragment of the Earth has an intangible value and should be treated accordingly; a concept that TLTG does not address. An ecocentric perspective has the propensity to halt the over exploitation that occurs at such an alarming rate. Ecocentrism should be applied on a systemic, domestic and individual level to avoid the Earth s further degradation. Indeed, this would require the re structuring of capitalism. Subsequently, a seemingly radical and alternative discourse system is needed to dominate policy documents such as TLTG. This essay does not suggest that ecocentric perspectives would be successful in creating ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The experiences were wonderful and I was very excited to be at both events. While at the museum I took two tours one at 10 am that was led by a woman named Nkechi Obi. She talked about docent African Arts. The next one was shortly after at11 am that was led by a teen ambassador named Nicholas Stewart, who was very intelligent. He talked about numerous pieces throughout the museum that had some significance to younger minds so I found that very helpful. After the tour I spent some time down at the mall in DC in which faced the Capitol. This was the Million Man Marchthat was a very popular event that brought out many people. I would describe both events as lectures that were powerful and time put to good use. The reason I chose to go to the African Art Museum is because I have been there before and I enjoy my time when I go. The tours at the museum consisted of talks about certain pieces in the museum that fell in a category the tourist wanted to focus on. Nkechi Obi was my first tour guide and the title of her tour was Docent African Arts . Her goal throughout the tour was to show pieces of artwork that showed what Africans may have gone through in the past in slavery. One piece that she focused on that I want to highlight was Southern Landscape by Walter Williams Roots. In this piece there various things going on in the photo. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. The Importance Of Computational Thinking Introduction Computational Thinking, first introduced by Jeanette Wing (2006), a computer science researcher at Carnegie Mellon University, as a strategy to solve problems where computing is part of the solution. Computers help make daily discoveries in almost all areas of society expanding our understanding of the world. Problem solving using the power of computers requires teaching students how to confront problems in a way that creates these solutions (Wing, 2006, p. 33). In her article Computational Thinking, Wing proposes that this strategy should be a fundamental skill, just like reading and writing, a foundation for every student (p. 33). Fundamental Skill Computational thinking was not a new idea in 2006. Envisioning the potential of computers in learning, Seymour Papert, a mathematician and learning theorist, in the early 1960s recognized that computers could be used not just to deliver information and instruction, but also to transform learning. He was a pioneer of children using computers as instruments for learning and for enhancing creativity, innovation, and concretizing computational thinking. (Seymour Papert) Papert earned two doctorates in mathematics, but what inspired him was the four years of work under Jean Piaget at the International Centre of Genetic Epistemology, University of Geneva. Piaget s influences are evident in Papert s work on how children create a sense of their world. (Blikstein, 2013,) The constructivist principles found in both ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. Food Will Win The War Chapter 1 Summary Ian Mosby s Food Will Win the War is a comprehensive survey of the policy and social culture around food in Canada during the Second World War. Divided into five distinct chapters Mosby s central argument is that food served as a catalyst for cultural unity, evolution of political policy and definition of gender roles during the period of the war. The five chapters of FoodWill Win the War are divided largely thematically rather than chronologically. Chapter s One and Five each stretch back a little farther into the prewar and postwar period respectively to provide a proper narrative on the resolution of the malnutrition crisis in Canada during this time. That said both bookend chapters discuss the period of the war proper and also carry... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Essentially covering the same timeline the chapters differ by covering different thematic content. Chapter Two largely deals with the rationing and price control Canadians faced during this period. The key aspect of the culture surrounding these policies Mosby discusses is the remarkable popularity of these measures and the implications of that popularity on Canadian culture and politics. The argument is made that the measures lead to an enjoyed level of equality and unity amongst Canadians from disparate backgrounds. This idea of national unity is also supported by the central topics of Chapter Three in which Mosby tackles the concept of the housoldier. This is the term used to discuss the role of Canadian women in volunteer labour and consumer practices centering around, unsurprisingly, food. This chapter is probably the closest to what one would imagine a book entitled food will win the war would contain but Mosby heavily incorporates social and gender history in order to present the new situation of women during the course of the war. Similarly Chapter Four also expresses the experiences of women but does so through different mediums. Heavily incorporating primary sources Mosby examines recipes (the majority of which written by women) published in newspapers and cookbooks in the time period. The blending of cultural and economic boundaries is used by to reiterate the idea of a national unity and equality that simply did not transfer into the post war ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 24. Reviewing Waltz s Man, The State, And War Brittany Griffin POLS 6850 Book Review 14 November 2014 Reviewing Waltz s Man, the State, and War Throughout the years, scholars have attempted to solve the complex puzzle of why states make and refrain from making war (Sjoberg, 2012, p. 1). Kenneth Waltz uniquely approaches the puzzle through three levels of analysis, or as Waltz calls them, images: within man, within the structure of separate states, within the state system (Waltz, 1959, p. 12). To describe how each image approaches the causes of war, Waltz pulls from the work of prominent scholars, analyzing the strengths and weaknesses of each argument and image. Ultimately, Waltz contends that the third image, or the international system, is the most cogent explanation of the recurrence of war but that the three images are interrelated and all hold significance for advancing knowledge of the causes of war. First Image: Within the Nature of Man Waltz explains that the first image of international relations uses the nature and behavior of man to account for the important causes of war, consistent with the basic tenants of Classical Realism. Wars result from selfishness, from misdirected aggressive impulses, from stupidity, Waltz states. Other causes are secondary and have to be interpreted in the light of these factors (1959, p. 16). If the first image is correct in identifying the primary causes of war, then he asserts that it leads one to believe that men must be uplifted and enlightened if war is to be ... But, by 1934, Hitler had come to see him as a potential rival and had him executed during the Night of the Long Knives. The historical context of Germany in Rohm s rise in power was what thrust him into the position of high power and authority. In a time of a fractured Germany, the Treaty of Versailles had reduced the German army to just 100,000 men, which was something that greatly angered all of the German officials, including Rohm. • 40. The Consequences Of The Bosnia War On The Bosnian War The Bosnian War was a brutal and inhumane conflict that featured genocide and the advent of ethnic cleansing and mass rape as instruments of modern warfare. The case study War in Bosnia recounts the tragic events of that war. Specifically, the article emphasizes the numerous and systematic atrocities perpetrated by the Serb forces upon the Bosnian Muslim and Croat civilian populations throughout the country during the course of the conflict, specifically emphasizing the genocide the Serbs committed against the Muslim population. The article points out the international outcry that ensued against the Serbs and their genocidal tactics was what spurred the United States to intervene militarily in Bosnia against the Serbs under President Bill Clinton. The article notes that the atrocities and violence did not subside until the NATO bombing campaign weakened the Serbian position in the conflict and forced the Serbian leader Milosevic to enter peace talks. Based upon the account provided in the article, the United States and NATO were justified in intervening in Bosnia to stop the killing of noncombatants in my view. I believe this is the case on the basis of just war theory, as outlined by O Brien. I think it is fairly obvious, based upon the account, that stopping the genocide and ethnic cleansing (among other atrocities) being committed against civilians would qualify as a just cause. Dna Profiling And The Criminal Justice System In November of 1983, 15 year old Lynda Mann was found raped and murdered on a deserted road, and although police were able to obtain a semen sample from her murderer the case remained unsolved. In 1986 the killer struck again murdering 15 year old Dawn Ashworth, once again leaving behind semen, but this time the police were able to use DNAprofiling to match the semen to a suspect. Colin Pitchfork became the first person to be caught based on mass DNA screening, and the first to be convicted based on DNA profiling. The use of Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) in the criminal justice system has greatly tipped the scales in favor of law enforcement, and changed the world that we live in. Court cases that in the past relied heavily on eye witness testimony and circumstantial evidence now have science to back them up. DNA analysis has revolutionized the criminal justice system, and even though there are some flaws, the use of DNA evidence should continue to be used by law enforcement. While DNA profiling is still considered to be fairly new , the analysis of the human genetic variation began more than a century ago with the discovery of the human ABO blood group. Karl Landsteiner realized that these variations in humans could be used to solve crimes. ABO could be used to exclude suspects, but police needed something that could definitively point the finger at a suspect. Usually, as in Shakespeare s classic paradigms, we see the hero, whether King Lear or Othello, reduced from his original noble stature to nothingness and death. Yet GeorgBuchner s fragmentary play Woyzeck shows us a protagonist already stripped of humanity, transformed into and treated as an animal. • 51. Russell s Theory Of Denoting In The Principles Of Mathematics 2.1.2. Problem with the Theory of Denoting in The Principles of Mathematics: Russell s theory of denoting as exposed in The Principles of Mathematics considers that whatever can be mentioned is a thing or a term i.e., an object. Thus, things, whether exist(like, the present queen of England) or not (like, the golden mountain) have being if it can be used as the logical subject of a proposition. This view of Russell is closely akin to that of Meinong s. However, there are some points of disagreement too. Two main theses of Meinong s theory of object ( Гњber Gegenstandstheorie) are i) There are objects that do not exist. (T1) ii) Every object that does not exist is yet constituted in some way or other and thus may be made the subject of a true predication. (T2) This is, in fact, the doctrine of Aussersen independence of sosein (character) from sein (being). Meinong thinks, even if an object happens to be unthinkable, it is something having at least the property of being unthinkable. And, whether or not something exists or has any other kind of being, it is an object i.e., something about which one is conscious, according to Meinong. Russell s view at the time of The Principles of Mathematics, resembles Meinong s in that Russell also holds that every object of thought has some being. The poem was widely celebrated and prompted a response from George Orwell in the essay Inside the Whale. Orwell had also served in Spain and detailed his experiences in the book Homage to Catalonia in which he described the ill ordered state of things in the war. While Orwell considered Auden s work one of the few decent things to be written about the war, he nevertheless objected strongly to Auden s use of the phrase necessary murder in the lines: To the deliberate increase in the chances of death The conscious acceptance of guilt in the necessary murder Both Auden and Orwell understood the term murder differently and interpreted the phrase as such. By 2002, euro notes and coins will replace the Austrian schilling, Belgian franc, Finnish markka, French franc, German mark, Irish punt, Italian lira, Luxembourg franc, Dutch guilder, Portuguese escudo, and Spanish peseta. The Economic reasons for the euro project can be found in the relatively poor performance of the European economies over the last twenty years or more. Europe has, for a long time, suffered form ... (50) Myrick s statement leads us to think that our personal feeling define may define our own objectivity but how could a journalist truly get to know their work without including personal feelings? People may think that Rebecca Skloot s close relationship with the Lacks family may have blurred the thin line between having objectivity and lacking it.
