A Comparison of Exxon and Chevron
Executive Summary Exxon and Chevron are no doubt some of the leading incorporated oil
companies on the globe. Exxon Corp. is the second largest oil firm after Royal Dutch Shell, it is
respected for getting the biggest revenue return in 2008 which no company in the U.S. have ever
reported before. According to Wilson (2009) Chevron has managed to show a lot of profitability
in the market despite the decease in its oil production. It graded as one of firms which made a
billion dollars profit within a week in the period of July to September 2008. Regardless of
profitability trends set by the two oil firms in the U.S. market, they have been facing financial
decline like the rest of the companies in other industries. The two firms are like two sailing ships
which are taking longer time to sink. In the last few years, the production capacity of Chevron
and Exxon has decreased and their listings on the stock market have become weak. The
continuation of construction and drilling which requires billions of dollars in expense of oil
production might make them experience a bigger financial crisis (Wilson, 2009). Exxon and
Chevron are so different in a number of ways. When you compare Chevron to Exxon, Chevron is
a smaller firm. The ratios of Exxon are relatively larger than Chevron s. Nevertheless, Chevron has
a got a wide net working capital and market ratio than its counterpart Exxon. This therefore, means
that because its larger networking capital, Chevron needs a lot of money

Dual Diagnosis Population Challenges Essay
Challenges in Adulthood and Aging for the dual diagnosis population are societal and individual.
The label dual diagnosis is preferred for individuals with co occurring mental health illness and
substance abuse. Some challenges for the Dual Diagnosis population in Adulthood and Aging are
both societal and individual. There are four major challenges one rapid numerical growth, two
stigma, three diagnosing, mistreatment, and four lack of adequate support systems for this
population. These challenges are manageable with help from competent human service
professional like social workers, counselors, and psychologist. The societal challenges are the
rapid growth due to more people being treated and properly diagnosis, and the other is the lack of

Pine Creek Rail Trail Case Study
This 8.7 mile section of the Pine Creek Rail Trail starts at Stokesdale Junction, a hub for local
railroads in the late 1800 s. It follows the original rail bed along the Jersey Shore, Pine Creek,
and Buffalo Railway, which traveled from Lyons, NY above Geneva, NY to Jersey Shore, Pa
(168.55 miles). The ownership of this branch of the railroad changed hands several times over
the next decades and eventually merged with the New York Central line in 1914, where it
remained until Conrail took over in 1976. The last train ran this line on October 7, 1988.

Weigh My Truck Research Paper
Fleet owners, carriers and individual truckers are all governed by federal restrictions when it
comes to the weight of vehicles that operate on the Interstate Highway System, which covers
roughly 50,000 miles of limited access, divided highways that traverse the country. States also set
their own commercial vehicle weight standards and limits. Currently, federal standards allow for
20,000 pounds on a single axle, 34,000 pounds on a tandem axle and 80,000 gross vehicle weight.
Failure to comply with these limits results in fines and unnecessary delays. Heavy duty and semi
trucktechnology helps keep drivers and carriers out of trouble and in compliance with the
restrictions.
CAT Scale Locators
The only way to comply with federal weight restrictions for trucks is to weigh the vehicle to
assure it s compliant. This is done via a certified CAT scale where the truck and trailer drive over
a scale and the axle weight and total vehicle weight are calculated. Locating a CAT scale nearby
is a simple matter with an app that can be downloaded and used from any smartphone. One app,
called Weigh My Truck, provided by CAT Scale, provides information about official scale
locations as well as the ability to weigh and pay without the driver having to leave the vehicle. It

Difference Between Coleridge And William Wordsworth
William Wordsworth was a British poet, credited with ushering in the English Romantic
Movement with the publication of Lyrical Ballad in collaboration with Samuel Taylor Coleridge.
The Biographical Perspective of William Wordsworth can be presented multiply ways such as
childhood experience, education, marriage, friendship, travels, career, and publication. Childhood
experience for William was not particularly a happy one. His mom passed on when he was eight
not having the best relationship with her. His dad filled in as an attorney to the Earl of Lowther, a
famously degenerate man who had earned the neighborhood description as wicked Jimmy. When
John Wordsworth passed on in 1783, leaving thirteen year old William and his four sibling... Show

an advanced mental comprehension of his own inclination, and hence more extensively of human

core of man, and he at that point went ahead to make a portion of the best English verse of his

Head Start Program Essay
After, reading Morrison s chapter on implementing Early Childhood programs I have a better
understanding of the many programs that are offered. All programs promote child development
and learning and focus on effective approaches to connect with children and families. One of the
programs that I have heard mostly about is Head Start. I would like to work in a Head start program
because of the impact it has on children s development, and after reading about it I know have more
understanding on the program. Head start focuses on parent involvement because research has
showed that the more parents become involve in their children s early childhoodeducation the better
they will do in school. Head start programs requires the use of research based practices to support
the growth of children s pre literacy and vocabulary skills. I am very interested in working and
implementing the different domains the program focuses on (Morrison, 2017, p. 127 128). Another
program that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

challenges children to do problem solving and reasoning for example, memory games help children
with logic and reasoning. These types of games are a great way to challenge students to think before
making selections. Another domain that is very interesting is Literacy Knowledge Skills in which
they implement phonological awareness, book appreciation, alphabet knowledge and early writing
(Morrison, 2017, p.128). Teaching children to appreciate books and teaching them that books have
meaning is something very important to

The Fight Against Drug Trafficking Essay
There continues to be a struggle in the fight against drug trafficking from Mexico into the United
States. Although measures have been put into place at the border, the profits made from the
illicit drug trade in addition to the other illegal activities has made it difficult determining who
has not been corrupted. Mexican presidents both past and present have taken to the military to try
and eradicate the problem, but have been met with force. As a result of the cartel violence, the
rising death toll has hit a staggering number. While the number itself is substantial, the manner
used by these organizations to commit these acts of violence range from kidnappings, to
decapitations and mass killings. Drug cartels have not stopped short of any means necessary to
meet their goals and have even joined forces with once rival gangs to do so. This has led to
further instability within the country. Programs in place are continuing to fund the joint efforts
between the United States and Mexico in hopes of deterring the influence and destructive power
of Mexican drug cartels. Mexico s Drug Cartels With its weak judicial and police foundations as
well as having close proximity to the world s largest consumer economy, has made Mexico the hub
of one of the world s most sophisticated drug networks. (Lee, 2014) There are numerous drug
trafficking organizations (DTOs) within Mexico that have continued to dominate the drug flow into
the United States. Despite being in

Slaughterhouse Five Essay
Kurt Vonnegut s novel, Slaughterhouse Five is a compelling story of war effects on the human
mind. Vonnegut s experiences cause him to become an alcoholic and unable to sleep at night due to
the guilt of surviving WW2 and Dresden. Vonnegut s shattered self from the war transfer to creating
Billy s apathetic nature. Through the non linear way of presentation and Vonnegut s insertion of
himself inside the book, Vonnegut creates an illusion of reality inside the fictitious world of Billy
Pilgrim. Vonnegut emphasizes the jump between reality and fiction, highlighting the parallels
between war effects on Vonnegut s life and Billy s state of mind due to the injustices of war.

The structure of the story aids to the effectiveness of the jumps between reality and fiction as
though others may see it in a linear succession war soldiers(Vonnegut) states there is no linearity,
right or wrong in war and that is is jumbled and jangled (24). The bird call poo tee weet is also
used to drive the point that war and massacre can t be justified and logically proclaimed. Poo tee
weet? is the ending of the book as well and its phrasing as a question after the Dresden bombing
in order to drive the effects of war on Dresden (275). Animals like the bird are symbols for the
innocent people of Dresden emphasizes the injustices of war on the innocent which also affects the
mentality of the surviving soldiers of war. Later in the book Vonnegut inserts an epigraph,
everything was beautiful and nothing hurt which Vonnegut states would make a good epigraph for
Billy Pilgrim and for me too (155). At a glance the epigraph seems like an encouraging line to
appreciate everything around, however, by connecting the epigraph with Billy and Vonnegut, it
expresses the numbness towards the world. It is very ironic as well

Act I Of Puccini s La Boheme
Act I of Puccini s La Boheme is an Opera that was written in1896. The song describes an
encounter between a man and woman who eventually fall in love. The woman goes to a mans
house to relight her candle. While she is there she faints, once she awakens she relights her
candle then leaves. She quickly returns once she realizes she is missing her key. While both are
now searching for the key in the dark both of their hands meet and it is love. Puccini makes
fluctuations in tempo, which affects the mood of the song. It changes from and innocent tone to a
more majestic tone towards the end. The continuous dialogue between the characters allows the
elaboration of the story on how they met and fell in love. This movement is written in a time
signature of 2/4 in b flat minor. Overall I liked this piece a bit more, it was overall more timid, yet
romantic at the same time giving it a heroic and majestic mood. The lyrics were more realistic,
where as the other were more fictional, and somewhat disturbing in my opinion.... Show more

family for years. Years later the brother visits the a woman, to which he quickly falls in love, and
unbeknownst to them is his sister. They end up having an incestrious child, typically of the time
period. Due to the more dramatic story Wanger uses more dissonant and chromatic harmonies,
which creates more tension and adds to the mysterious tone. In comparison to Act I of Puccini s
La Boheme, I think that this piece makes more use of dynamics also adding to the dramatic story.

Figurative Language In Erik Larson s Devil In The White City
A Tale of Two Cities
Serbian poet, Dejan Stojanovic, once stated, Devil and God two sides of the same face. When
looking at Chicago during the Columbian Exposition, there were two sides of Chicago known as
the white city and the black city. The white city was the fairgrounds where the World Fair
occurred. The black city, however, is the rest of Chicagowhere the crime, poverty, disease, and filth
was represented. Erik Larson constructs the black and white city in Devil in the White City by
incorporating figurative language, imagery, and juxtaposition.
One of Erik Larson s main ways of building the black and white cities is through figurative
language. Larson expresses that Chicago is likened...to a human being with his skin removed ...

Using descriptive diction such as eerie and swamp readers can imagine an unpleasant city
rustling with filth and crime. Larson exposes that Chicago had auras of mosquitoes in its midst.
Readers automatically see Chicago as a filthy and troublesome town when they associate it with
mosquitoes. This view of Chicago created by Larson further achieves his purpose to show the
downside of Chicago during the time the World Fair was being constructed and attended. When
the World Fair was finished, Larson described the nights, the lamps that laced every building and
walkway produced the most elaborate demonstration of electric illumination ever attempted
(254). Larson says the lamps laced the walkways in the white city which allows readers to
picture the city in a whimsical way. The feeling of the word laced sits with readers in a positive
way. Thus, Larson can achieve the purpose of forcing readers to see the white city in a luxurious
fashion. Also, Larson mentions that the lighting was elaborate. Readers see the white city as a
sophisticated and lavish place rather than how they see the black city. Larson again is able to
persuade readers into believing the magic of the white city. Larson calls upon imagery to construct
the two sides of Chicago. Larson deploys juxtaposition to build the two views of Chicago. Larson

Voter Turnout And Voter Apathy
Voter turnout is commonly regarded as one of the most distinct issues within American politics of
the last century. Though the United States once averaged a turnout rate of 78% of eligible voters in
presidential elections between 1860 and 19001, the average voter turnout of the 21st century has
fallen to around 52%2. The cause of the marked decline throughout the 20th century is often
attributed simply to voter apathy, but the issue is much more complex. Upon analysis, it is clear
that a number of factors have contributed to the decreased rate of voter turnout, of which voter
apathy is perhaps the least influential. The decline in voter turnout in presidential electionsfrom the
19th to the 20th century is most likely a result of the instatement of the Australian ballot, the
structure of the American electionsystem, and an increased disillusionment with the government
over the last century. Until the late 19th century, voting was not entirely private in the United
States, which led to inflated voter turnout in presidential elections due to the corruption it
allowed. Initially, there were very few regulations imposed on voting. Ballots, for example,
could be printed in any size or color and often were printed so that one could tell to which party
it corresponded just by looking at it. A voter s name might be called out or recorded when he
placed a vote. Others could even view the ballot of another until it was officially cast3. This lack
of privacy in casting votes allowed

Social Responsiblity-Jack Welch

GE the most valuable company in the world. He was described as the most important and

Paying taxes is wonderful and all but it is not the only social responsibility that a corporation should
have.
Jack Welch should have been proactive in his cleaned up the PCBs in the Hudson River, to help

should have considered the layoffs and what effect outsourcing had on the US economy. It would
have been more socially responsibly to have looked for ways to enhance American work force

Safety And Prevention Of Central Line Blood Stream Infections
Safety and Prevention of Central Line Blood Stream Infections
Shelbie N. Langless
Tidewater Community College
With all the traffic continuously moving through the hospital it is important to make sure that
infection control and safety are always being taken into consideration. There are several infections
that can be acquired in the hospital setting, but one of the most prevalent is a central line associated
blood stream infections (CLABSI). A CLABSI is a primary bloodstream infection (that is, there is
no apparent infection at another site) that develops in a patient with a central line in place within
the 48 hour period before onset of the bloodstream infection that is not related to infection at
another site (The Joint Commission, 2015, CLABSI Toolkit Introduction). With that being said, a
central line is a long catheter that accesses a major vein in the body that leads to the heart. Central
lines can be used for drawing blood and administration of medicine and blood products.

interruptions in the classroom. To manage behavioural disruptions effectively, it is important to
consider the individual s needs in relation to their situation and which behavioural strategy can best
support the student. The main goal of behaviour intervention is to guide students to learn and
manage their own behaviour (Meyer Evans, 2012). The Neo Adlerian theory approach focuses on
the implementation of positive behavioural management in the classroom, using strategies such as
positive student teacher relationships that promote value and a sense of... Show more content on

The Choice theory also adopts self responsibility, belonging and meaningful relationships which
aligns with the Humanistic approach. Choice theory asserts that human beings have five basic
needs: (1) survival, (2) love and belonging (sharing and cooperating with others), (3) power and
control (by achieving, accomplishing, being recognised and respected), (4) freedom (making
choices in our lives) and (5) fun (laughing and playing) (Lyons, Ford Arthur Kelly, 2011). Students
may not be fully aware of their basic needs but understand that there are some general circumstances
that strongly relate to the way they feel. For example, students realise that when people pay
attention to their words or actions they feel powerful; by making choices they feel the importance
of freedom; and through laughter they learn about fun (Brooks Young, 2011). These constitute the
source of all internal motivation and guide their behaviour. However, the behaviours through which
individuals choose to satisfy those needs may be quite different. Individuals choose to behave in
different ways to fulfil their needs because their quality worlds are different (Brooks Young, 2011).
Choice theory suggests that teachers can help students identify the circumstances that trigger their
behaviours, which in turn

Loren Eiseley Essay
Loren Eiseley was a strong autobiographical nature writer who was also contemporary in some
ways. He was born in 1907 and lived until 1977 in the plains of Nebraska. His mother was deaf
and a unstable mother. As a child Loren spent his childhood writing stories and poetry, this was an
interest of his at a early age resulting him to his future of being a nature writer. Loren Eiseley
eventually became a professor in Pennsylvania teaching anthropology. In the mid 20th century he
made a achievement of publishing his first book, not only was this his first book but it was a best

To me being in a city like New York and going to the train station is something so far from nature.
Loren has seen a different way of looking at this in a nature way, since he observes the crows and
pigeons. Not only does Loren Eiseley talk bout New York but also his experiences in the forests
of nature. He has said You may put it that I had come over a mountain, that I had slogged through
fern and pine needles for half a long day, and that on the edge of a little glade with one long,
crooked branch extending across it, I had sat down to rest with my back against a stump.
Through accident I was concealed from the glade, although I could see into it perfectly. The sun
was warm there, and the murmurs of the forest life blurred softly into my sleep. When I awoke,
dimly aware of some commotion and outcry in the clearing, the light was slanting down through
the pines in such a way that the glade was lit like some vast cathedral. I could see the dust motes
of the wood pollen in the long shaft of light, and there on the extended branch sat an enormous
raven with red and squirming nestling in his beak. In this passage Loren Eiseley was so
descriptive I could imagine him trudging through the ferns and the pine forests falling asleep next

The Supply Chain Of Supply Chains
Supply chains has been relevantly defined as a system of organizations which are convoluted
through upstream and downstream linkages, in the diverse methodologies and activities that create
benefit in the form of services and products in the hands of a definitive consumer , and is therefore
the sum total of efforts in integrating a network of firms and coordination as regards information,
material and financial flows. Interestingly, the two main supply chain objectives have moved, from
decreasing operating expenses and general inventory levels, to the concerns of how to enhance the
customer service and the momentum of product delivery to the business sectors. Figure 1

Uncertainties examined by supply chain:
The significant issue in the supply chain is establishing problem free and uninterrupted operation of
supply and so the function of supply chain as a defense against the uncertainties and unexpected
characters has been initiated for a long time. Figure 1 illustrates the uncertainties which are
investigated and solved by effective execution of supply chain.
In order to minimize the influence of these supply uncertainties, the supply chain managers should
recognize their origins, the desired market size, examined possible outcomes and the consequence
of their impact. Shockingly numerous supply chains will not record and track these elements that
may effects into under stock or over stock, underestimation of the investments and lead time in the
inappropriate resources for productivity enhancement. Besides these factors supply chain
management includes replenishment planning, inventory planning, warehouse management,
production scheduling, logistics and transportation operation in the auto industry.

Eugene V. Debs Research Paper
Born on November 5, 1855 in Terre Haute, Indiana, Debs was raised by Jean Daniel, father, and
Marguerite Mari Bettrich Debs, mother, to become a leader. Both his parents were immigrants
from France who sought the pursuit of happiness and freedom. Eugene was unfortunate to not
complete school, and instead begin working to support his family s income. At 14, he left home
to work in railroad shops. At a very young age, Debs was exposed to the poor treatment of
immigrant workers who worked in the railroad industry. Debs was then inspired to become an
activist and initiate a change. Eugene Victor Debs, activist, labor organizer, and social party
candidate, emphasized that unfair wages and poor treatment was an issue to be resolved. Eugene V.

Nba Draft Lottery
My proposal to fix the NBA Draft lottery would be to remove the lottery aspect entirely, and
instead allow teams to bid on draft slots using wins. This would first require calculating the
average number of wins across all teams that miss the playoffs and split the teams into two
groups: above average and below average. Teams that are below the average would bid in once
process on the first X number of picks (X represents the number of below average teams), while
the above average teams would bid in a second process on whichever of the first fourteen picks
remain. The rest of the picks would be allocated as they currently are, to the playoff teams in order

Public Participation At San Diego Unified District School...
Public participation is an important aspect of any community and benefits realized from inculcating
it in the system of any public setup treats any possible problem. Some of the core merits any public
institution produces is enabling the community to participate in decision making and planning. For
this reason, they are more likely to interact with established mechanisms. Moreover, apart from
helping bring about a sense of community, public participation enables institutions to set goals and
objectives that suit that long term service delivery. San Diego Unified district school is among the
many educational centers in the United States that have embraced this useful method to warrant
continuous progress. Therefore, they recently organized a school board meetingon 27th September
2016 to provide an update on what was going on in the institution as well give the public an
opportunity to discuss their concerns and contributions. This paper analyzes the nature and role of
public participation in uniting the community and institutions that serve its members. Evidently,
although the meeting had some hitches in terms of short notices and low ethnic representation, it
was successful because the community and the institution discussed agendaand non agenda matters
and settled for proposals to increase engagement in the future.
The meeting was intended to highlight key issues as stipulated in the agenda. These were

The Government Of The People
Democracy is, and will always be, as one of America s past presidents Abraham Lincoln stated in
his Gettysburg Address, government of the people, by the people, and for the people. The exact
definition for democracy is a system of government by the whole population of a state, typically
through elected members. The original idea of democracy that America s Founding Fathers
promoted has shifted throughout the years. America was founded on the principles of freedom
and liberty and many of these freedoms and liberties are being stripped away, or are at risk of
being stripped away, by the American government. America is no longer a democracy, but it is an
oligarchy. America is considered an oligarchy because of one reason, and that reason is that power
lies in the hand of the elite wealthy. The majority of the population in America belongs to the
middle class. The preferences of most American citizens have little impact on government. Instead,
the responsiveness of government is strongly tilted towards the most affluent citizens . Those who
reap the benefits are the ones creating policies. As U.S. supreme court justice, Louis Brandeis,
stated, America can have democracy or it can have great wealth concentrated in the hands of a few,
but it cannot have both. Oligarchy and democracy cannot coexist. It is true to say that since the
founding of America, freedoms and rights of all who have inhabited this land have greatly
increased. However, in recent years, these rights have

those 228, only 82 identified the breed of dog involved. Of those that reported a breed, only 29

Serving as one the most controversial leaders of the Soviet Union during its relatively short

Through his many alterations to the systems by which the Soviets lived, he managed to increase
the standard of living and productivity of this Communist State. Described as a man of enormous
energy and drive, he was shrewd, tough, earthy, sociable and talkative, and he confidently took
colossal gambles in both foreign and domestic policies. From his Secret Speech and the following

with six of his aides. By this time he was the acknowledged head of the Communist party. He
quickly rose to the position of Premier when, in 1956 he forced Malenkov to resign from the
position. Following this he delivered a compelling speech to the people denouncing many of
Stalin s actions. He expelled all of his remaining rivals in June of 1957. The four main rivals,
Molotov, Malenkov, Kaganovich, and Shepilov, were not executed as a responsible action to
exhibit Khruschev s compassion and responsibility in an effort to boost public support. As a
result of this political campaign based on responsibility and compassion, he freed many political
prisoners and urged peaceful coexistence with the West. This process of solidifying his leadership
took a long time and was a great risk to him and his people because of the past popularity and
support of Stalin and his ways.
Although he seemed to be steering the Soviet Union in the right direction, his people and
colleagues still viewed him critically. He had begun to realize that a state could not be run with a

began the development of individual thinkers, Soviets with a mind of their own. In order to allow

The Importance Of Ethics In To Kill A Mockingbird By...
Aristotle once said, We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence but we rather
have those because we have acted rightly. The meaning behind Aristotle s quote is that being
ethical is important because it is what a person does, that defines a person. Morality and ethics
play a huge role in life, especially doing what is right over what will be accepted, and is shown
throughout To Kill a Mockingbirdby Harper Lee. Lee uses the novel s moral compass, Atticus
Finch, and his foil, the hypocritical Maycomb townspeople, to show the moral obligations society
has to do what is right rather than what is accepted. Through Lee s use of unmoral choices she
shows that society needs to do the morally right thing. One instance of doing what will be accepted
over what is right, is when the jury rules Tom Robinson guilty, during the trial, when he clearly

each member of the group. There was a task assigned to each group member: Circuit builder,
measurer, and the data collector/calculator. Because of this group collaboration, we were able to
work quickly and efficiently to get the project done on time. This project was definitely a learning
experience for all of us because this was the first time we had been expected to build a circuit. We
worked together and followed the instructions step by step. The measurements we were expected to

The Major Effects of The British Petroleum Oil Spill
The BP Oil spill pumped almost 200 million gallons of crude oil into the gulf of mexico, for
approximately 87 days. This became the largest and most devastating oil spill in the United States.
The coastlines of Texas, Alabama, Florida, MIssissippi and Louisiana were drastically effected by
this horrible oil spill. In the end the BP oil spill negativity impacted more than 16,000 miles of
coastline. Even today, oil is appearing on shores, and created horrible damage to living organisms
in the area and around the area. The British Petroleum Oil Spill effected the ecosystem, human
health and created many jobs in the effort to clean up the disaster. The health of the ecosystem
and the Gulf of Mexico were effected drastically by the British Petroleum Oil spill. When the
Associated Press recently asked 26 scientists to grade the effects of the spill on about two dozen
aspects of Gulf health, they concluded the Gulf was 11 percent less healthy today, dropping from
an average 73 to 65 on a scale of 100 to zero (Schleifstein 1). It is apparent that the British
Petroleum Oil Spill has affected the ecosystem s health conditions drastically compared to the time
prior to this tragic incident. It is evident that the ecosystem is less sustainable than before the
British Petroleum Oil Spill, proving that the spill was detrimental to the plant and

Analysis Of Dalton Conley s You May Ask Yourself
Dalton Conley s book, You May Ask Yourself, defines sociological imagination as, The ability to
connect the most basic, intimate aspects of an individual s life to seemingly impersonal and
remote historical forces (Conley 2015, pg. A 11). Sociological Imagination is the idea of being
able to step outside of the box, and evaluate society from an alternative point of view. Symbolic
Interactionism, norms, socialization, and the idea of understanding yourself vs. understanding
the social aspect of society, are some of the key concepts mentioned throughout this paper, to
help break apart what the sociological imagination consists of. Society is changing a lot, and
change can sometimes make it hard to cope with the world around us. Sociological imagination
is a lot deeper than just common sense. Author of The Sociological Imagination, C. Wright Mills
states, Talking about sociological imagination is what makes us feel more grounded in the face
of all these changes (C. Wright Mills). If I keep an open mind, and pay attention to the larger
world around me, I am better to understand the connections of what is going on in my individual
life, and what is going on in the social world. The sociological imagination has two lenses to it, the
individual lens, and the society lens. The individual lens deals with personal troubles; Individuals
comparing themselves to everyone around them. For example, with the media, we see all these
commercials, and ads that portray false

wade. Repeated challenges since 1973 narrowed the scope of Roe v. Wade but did not overturn it.
In Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Pennsylvania v. Casey (1992), the Supreme Court
established that restrictions on abortion are unconstitutional if they place an undue burden on a
woman seeking an abortion before the fetus is viable (). Since the roe decision, anti abortion
lawmakers have not been able to ban abortion outright. Instead, they have developed a very
successful strategy of limiting a woman s access to the procedure and restricting the procedures
that physicians can use to perform it (76). The restrictions that were given made life harder for
women. All of these laws are meant to dissuade a woman from going through with the abortion.
Feminists oppose the restrictions. They view the laws as condescending to women, who they feel
know how to make up their own minds about this personal, private decision (77). When they
eventually make their way back to a clinic, they may be much farther along in the pregnancy, when
the procedure becomes more invasive, potentially more dangerous to the mother, and much more
expensive (77). For some clinics, the expenses brought on by TRAP laws are so high the
facilities shut down. By the fall of 2014, only eight abortion clinics in Texas were still standing.
Before the law, some 10,000 Texas women had to travel more than 200 miles

most important part of the religion. Doing this often distracts from the deeper and true meaning
of the belief. When these objects or practices become the focus of worship, meaning is lost and
changed, creating a cloudy area between what is proper and what is inappropriate for the
religious belief. These objects and rituals are put in place to help us worship, but are not what
we worship. We look at our own religious practices, and assume ours are the proper one to
follow, regardless of the numerous other religions in the world. We are so caught up in our rituals
and religious objects of worship being different from one another, we often miss the fact we all
worship something similar; a god or gods of higher cosmic power. We get so caught up in
representations of our own religion, sometimes we take it out on others who do not believe the
exact same thing we do.
It is not uncommon for religious followers to be intolerant of another s religious beliefs and
practices. It is this kind of negative behavior which leads to exclusivism or excluding others from
certain privileges or treating someone differently because of their religious beliefs. In some
extreme cases, religious beliefs clash in violent ways. There are instances when people lose touch
with the message and end up fighting for the symbol. If someone s religious beliefs clash so
strongly with another groups and one group is so

Sex Hormones And Its Effect On Gender
Introduction. Gender is complex (Lippa, A R 1994) there are unlimited influences that affect
each and every one of us as we develop as human beings; we are all unique models, shaped not
only by our DNA but also by the physical and emotional environment in which we find ourselves
including our biological genes, sex hormones and ongoing genetic and hormonal changes can be
defined as nature and influence physical development and sexual identity while family
background, class and belief systems, described as nurture affect gender through the
encouragement of social norms and familiar gender roles. (Fausto Sterling, A 2008) Away from
the biological, peer group influences, such as school friends and their families also reinforce
gender stereotypes while in the wider world mass media, from children s TV to advertising
campaigns, government guidelines on education and community structure and various external
influences such as culture and religious beliefs, and according to Fausto Sterling (2008) all form
the mannerisms of the individual and define gender In this paper I aim to use the examples of two
well known products to examine the way in which toy manufactures have impacted on this
complex structure and to explore whether or not they exploit traditional stereotypes for better or
worse. I will also be looking at reports from psychologists and sociologists to back up the views
surrounding gender exploitations and the effects they may have on children. This is an

Florida State Football Team Analysis
A new school year begins the start of a new football team as the Seminoles lost several players
earlier this year from quarterback Jameis Winston, wide receiver Rashad Greene, running back
Karlos Williams, and tight end Nick O Leary to the NFL Draft. Currently, The Florida State
football program upholds the record for most recent draft picks with a record 29 under their belt
since 2013 along with three consecutive times Atlantic Coast Conference Champions and national
title. When the season starts, there will be players to watch such as new quarterback Everett
Golson that will replace Heisman Trophy winner Winston. The senior was one of the top graduate
transfers during the offseason making 3,445 passing yards and 37 total touchdowns in 12... Show

However, with the highs, there are some lows as most people will be concerned with his
turnovers because of his 14 interceptions and losing eight fumbles. In comparison, Winston did the
worst during his last season with the Seminoles as among the 39 FBS quarterbacks that passed
over 3,000 yards and still managed to take the team to the playoffs. As a quarterback, Winston
counted on his teammates like returning running back Dalvin Cook to assist in making great plays
and wins for the football team all the way to the playoffs. The football season begins with the
ranked team playing their first game at home since 2012, and it is against an unranked opponent. As
the team has a winning streak of 14 starting home games since 2009, hopefully, this game will add
another home game win for the Noles to make it number 15 for the team. When the game starts
tonight, it will be their first meeting between FSU and Texas State as the Seminoles take on the
Bobcats at Doak Stadium. While the Noles have dominated players returning this season; the team
should not underestimate their

`` 6 Harsh Truths That Will Make You A Better Person `` By...
6 Harsh Truths That Will Make You A Better Person is a listicle written by David Wong, the chief
editor of the website cracked.com . In this article, Wong takes an atypical side to the tradition self
help style of writing. He approaches the genre with an aggressive, volatile, angry tone to motivate
those who find themselves unmotivated. Wong divides his audienceinto two distinct groups. He
uses a scene from the famous 1992 movie Glengarry Glen Ross to his aid. This particular scene
is the Alec Baldwin, If you want to work here, CLOSE! speech that received massive critical
praise. Wong uses this scene to parallel the audience to those who worked under Alec Baldwin.
Wong directly then divides the audience into those who get things done in the face of adversity,
and those who fail to even step up to challenge. After making this distinction, Wong then targets
those who fail to step up to the challenge, and proceeds to portray his ideas on how to improve
one s dire situation. However, what Wong doesn t fully understand is that through this article, he
truly alienates the group that he is trying to assist in the first place. Wong s use of vulgar language,
from the very first line to the concluding paragraph, makes an informal attempt to grab an audience
s attention. This caustic style of informality effectively makes the audience cringe and not
responsive to the article s message. Wong also uses different forms of media, ranging from pictures
and videos to help assist his

Motivation, Self And Unconscious Interactions
Motivation is literally the desire to do things. According to the Business Dictionary, motivation is
also the internal and external factors that stimulate desire and energy in people to be continuing
interested and committed to a job, role or subject, or to make an effort to attain a goal. Furthermore,
conscious and unconscious interactions are the reasons for motivation. These conscious and
unconscious interaction factors include: intensity of desire/need, incentive/reward value of the goal,
and expectations of the individual and of his or her peers. As a whole, these are the causes for a
person behaving a particular way (Business Dictionary, 2016). It is because of motivation, or the
lack of, that Joe and his supervisor are in this tough situation that needs answers to how motivate
people, motivate themselves, and how to solve conflict resolutionbetween staff members.
Joes is a loyal employee and an impeccable worker of 10 years at a small rural clinic. However,
Joe is being transferred to one of the larger urban clinics. Since his arrival, the supervisor of the
clinic has moved him around so much that it s making it impossible for Joe to familiarize
himself with the clinic. Moreover, he is being treated as a new as a new employee and the staff
has not made it easy for him. Now, Joe s attitude has become negative and his motivation is at an
all time low. The supervisor does not want to fire him, but needs to come up with a solution that

Mr Darcy Irony
At the beginning of the novel, Elizabeth is unaware of Mr. Darcy s affection for her because of
his hostile manner. Mr. Darcy comes off as rude and prideful to Lizzy when she overhears Mr.
Darcy refer to her as tolerable; but not handsome enough to tempt me (Austen 13) to Mr.
Bingley. Elizabeth is thinking Mr. Darcy was merely insulting her looks, and creates a premature
opinion about his character. This is an example of dramatic irony because Austen hints to readers
Darcy s feeling towards Lizzy, and it is recognizable that Darcy is just trying to deny and cover up
his interest towards her. The irony can give readers a feeling of excitement because they posses
knowledge that the protagonist and other characters do not. The irony also adds

Effects of Slavery on America
Effects of Slavery on American History
Andrew Avila
US History 1301
Dr. Raley
April 18, 2013
The U.S. Constitution is primarily based on compromise between larger and smaller states, and
more importantly, between northern and southern states. One major issue of the northern and
southern states throughout American history is the topic of slavery. Although agreements such as
the Three Fifths Compromise in 1787, and the Thirteenth Amendment in 1865 were adapted to
reduce and outlaw slavery, it took many years for slavery to be completely abolished and allow
blacks the freedom they had been longing for. The Three Fifths Compromise was a agreement
reached at the Constitutional Convention of 1787 in Philadelphia in which ... Show more content on

This prevented the bill from becoming an actual law. President Lincoln took active measures to get
the proposed bill on the Republican Party platform for the 1864 presidential election. After several
months of debate, the bill finally reached the two thirds vote on January 31, 1865, although the
signed amendment s archival copy states the bill was passed February 1, 1865[8]. After the
approval of the Thirteenth Amendment, Congress passed four statutes known as the Reconstruction
Acts. The Reconstruction Congress was required to pass two laws that implemented the Thirteenth
Amendment[9]. The first was the Civil Rights Act declaring that freed slaves were allowed to
enjoy the same rights as white people. This law made it a crime on the federal level to deprived
freed slaves of these rights. The second was the Anti Peonage Act of 1867 which made the holding
of any person as a slave unlawful[10]. The Thirteenth Amendment completed the abolition of
slavery in the United States. The process to abolish slavery began with President Lincoln s issuing
of the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863. Although the Thirteenth Amendment outlaws slavery
and involuntary servitude, officials had to selectively enforce laws such as vagrancy forcing blacks
to be subject to involuntary servitude. The southern states attitudes towards abolition made it

Hereditary Angioedema Essay
Hereditary Angioedema: Current and New Treatments to Relieve Sudden Attacks.
Hereditary Angioedema is an inherited disease caused by the disfunction of the protein C1 inhibitor
which is mechanically responsible for inhibiting the activation of the complement system, a
humoral aspect of the innate immune system. Intravenous treatment has been used for many years
to prevent and relieve the effects of sudden edema attacks caused by spontaneous activation of the
complement system within the victim s cardiovascular system. However apart from being highly
invasive, current intravenous treatment is not convenient in cases of sudden, spontaneous edema
attacks.
Recently studies have been undertaken to develop an effective subcutaneous treatment option for ...

Triggering mechanisms include: physical trauma, surgery, dental procedures, and emotional stress.
It has been noted that almost any level of trauma can trigger an edema attack, from typing on a
keyboard to mowing the lawn. Emotional stress is another often encountered cause of edema
attacks. The buildup of stress has been well documented in it s effects on the immune system, often
in a negative capacity. This appears to be enough to trigger attacks spontaneously in those with a
copy of the mutated C1 inhibitor gene. Trigger of an edema attack by surgery or dental procedures
are also usually the result of trauma and can heavily affect the methods and outcome of any such
procedures undertaken.3
Because Hereditary angioedema attacks can be triggered by common occurrences throughout any
given day in the average person s life, those affected by hereditary angioedema must take special
care with their actions and more closely monitor their environment as well as their stress levels.

Chaldean Culture
Sunday nights were reserved for extended family dinners at my grandparent s house. Loud music,
different food and strange dancing were commonplace at these large gatherings. We were Chaldean
a small Catholic minority originating from northern Iraq with ties to ancient Mesopotamia. The
dinners provided me with a gateway, bridging my everyday experience with my ancestral culture.
On Mondays, I would return to school with leftover dolma or beef kafta, which established an
immediate rapport with other Chaldean students and helped to form the basis of many long term
friendships.
Years later, once I had graduated to the adult table at our Sunday dinners, I noticed a predictable
trend. Sometime after the plates had been cleared, but before the baklava and coffee were served,
the family conversation would shift to a discussion about the Iraq War, eventually giving way to
passionate and lively debates. My relatives would discuss the progress of the American invasion,
important political actors and the policy implications of certain U.S. actions. The nuanced
discussion about tenuous situations and the fervor with which my family spoke ... Show more

households), many campaigned for Donald Trump, who they saw as the toughest on Islamist
extremism. Recently though, ICE agents, working under presidential directives, began deporting
Chaldeans who have been here for decades. Not only is the community concerned about breaking
up families, but for many Chaldeans, deportation comes with the risk of religious persecution from
members of ISIS or its sympathizers.
I bring with me many experiences I have gained from my community. Experiences that have
shaped my associations, interest in politics and desire to attend law school. I hope that by pursuing
a legal education I can become an effective positive force for my Chaldean

Hip Hop Culture Has Influenced The Lives And Identities Of...
Over the last four decades, hip hop culture has influenced the lives and identities of many youth
throughout the world. Depending on their geographical location and socioeconomic backgrounds,
youth have experienced this worldwide culture differently. One similarity amongst these selective
groups of adolescents is the political freedom that has come with engaging in the hip hop scene. Hip
hop allows Black youth in the United States, immigrant youth in France, and Afro Cuban youth in
Cuba to express criticism toward the racial marginalization that they face in order to gain the
equality that society prohibits them from acquiring.
Hip hop has evolved into a source of activism and inspiration that allows Black youth to address
the flaws within the criminal justice system and simultaneously comfort the audience of color who
experience such discrimination. Today, hip hop artists, including Kendrick Lamar a rapper from
Compton, California, practice musical and visual activism. Lamar s song Alright incorporates
heartfelt emotion, and lyrics including Alls my life I has to fight and Wanna kill us dead in the
street fo sho . Lamar demonstrates that even though he has become a well recognized and greatly
admired rapper within the hip hop culture, he continues to face racial subordination in a society
who claims that racism was left in the past. The bold and chastising lyrics highlight his resentment
toward the po po that yearn to kill Blacks, but also creates a notion of hope

time for the production on the transformer plant.
2.5. New Demand Management Issues
As the transformer plant has signed a new contract the production volume was expected to increase
significantly. The new added volume would require several operational changes. Moreover,
according to governmental requirements all standard enclosures have to be painted before final
assembly what means one more additional production step
3.A description of the approach management adopted to address the issues raised in the case, if the

issues identified.
Issue 1.
Forecasting Issues within Hammonds Transformer Group
Three problems were identified as Hammonds forecasting issues; the first problem was a
forecasting inaccuracy which caused late deliveries of enclosures from the cabinetry plant in
Guelph to the other side of town to the manufacturing transformer plant. This should be corrected
by using shorter forecasting periods for each of the product ranges during the Collaborative planning

Analysis Of The Article Chambersburg And Gettysburg...
In the nineteenth century the daily life for the average American was changing, with the industrial
revolution in full swing, Americans began to see changes in the economy, transportation, increases
in food production, and the birth of the American system of manufacturing. America was
modernizing, but modernization took place mostly in the north creating a divide between the south
which remained agriculturally based. Daily life in the northern United Statestook on the hustle and
bustle of a modern economy which can be seen in articles from the Valley Spirit. In the article
Chambersburg and Gettysburg Railroad, the citizens of Fayetteville are interested in building a
railroad linking the two towns. Fayetteville s citizens have already contributed eighty dollars
towards having the path surveyed and would like for the citizens of Franklin County to donate the
remaining fifty dollars to have the project completed in a timely manner (Chambersburg and
Gettysburg Railroad). The editors of this article express great confidence in Franklin County s
citizen s will to support this project (Chambersburg and Gettysburg Railroad). This article shows the
mind set of northern Americans and their willingness to work together to modernize and improve
the infrastructure of their towns and cities. Another example of this mindset and desire to improve
the infrastructure can be seen in the article For the Valley Spirit, which talks about the construction
of a bridge crossing the Franklin

Explain How Tom Brennan and Juno (Related Text) Portray...
Explain how Tom Brennan and Juno (related text) portray the consequences of moving into the
world.
The concept Into the world is a process assisted with many new experiences and changes. An
individual s response to these experiences and changes is known as a consequence. Thoroughly
portraying the stages of moving into the world with the assistance of an array of techniques, the
novel The story of Tom Brennan by J.C burke and the movie Juno composed by Jason Reitman,
distinctly present a variety of consequences as an individual s response to many changes and new
experiences.
Throughout the novel The Story Of Tom Brennan Burke cleverly employs an enormous amount of
changes as a result of one tragic event. The event involves ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This in turn, influences a change to his state of mind and furthermore improves his mentality.
Ultimately this displays a positive consequence of moving into the world.
Within the second trimester of the novel it is evident that new experiences have further enhanced
Tom s movement past hardship and into a world happier than he had perviously subdued. Through
acceptance of his new world forced upon him, Tom has improved physically. As Tom becomes
physically active again he enriches his understanding of self, and his place in the world. You know,
Dan, they really enjoy playing. It s not just about winning . Burke uses dialogue to present that Tom
has accepted the new word and in doing so, has grown not only physically but mentally as well.
Through this Burke portrays yet another positive consequence of moving into the world.
The motion picture Juno stars a protagonist which faces multiple consequences due to an unplanned
pregnancy. The movie, like the novel present themes revolving around teenage decision making.
The movie is solidly based through the experiences of a pregnant teenage girl, the protagonist Juno.
Being suddenly hit with the unexpected when Juno discovers that she is pregnant, the composer
shows that she is immensely confused. Numerous intense mid shots used highlight Juno s confusion.

The For The Team Of A Team Essay
1.Why doesn t this team work? (While there is one obvious problem, be sure to think of other
factors that are creating problems for the team.) This team did not have in place the necessary
aligned group dynamics to meet the standard of a high performing team. In Kreitner Kinicki, the
first stage known as Forming states the team member should develop a mutual understanding in
order to work efficiently and effectively (Pg. 274). Eric quickly formed a team of highly diverse
members but good at their own field: Randy Lowerback (director of sales and marketing), Ray
LaPierre of manufacturing, Maureen Turner of the design division and Carl Simmons of
distribution. They all were the most capable person of what they did but working as a team,
there were too many problems arose. Firstly, there was the lack of a clear goal. Eric had been
clearly assigned as the leader of a team. That meant there must be a clearly defined goal for
everyone to work toward, positive synergy and accountability between members. They must
define what needed to be done in order to achieve their one and only goal, with a clear schedule.
Moreover, all team members should share mutual interest in accomplishing the goal. However,
what we saw in this team so far was more of a work group then a work team. Eric had decided
only one general goal of restructuring FireArt for the whole team without any more specific plan,
schedule or tasks. Within the team, even information was not shared equally as Randy

Gender Dysphoria, By Magnus Hirschfield
Notes on articles
Gender dysphoria, also known as transsexualism, is the incongruence between gender and
biological sex. Biological males who are gender dysphoric receive treatment with estrogens and
anti androgens to become feminized, while gender dysphoric biological females will receive
androgen treatments to become masculinized. Many adolescents diagnosed with this condition are
given hormones to suppress puberty to make the process easier. Social marginalization and
barriers to proper care are typical issues for people with gender dysphoria.
Many cultures historically have cross gender identities, for example, Native Americans call these
individuals two spirit persons, and in India, physiological males with feminine gender identity are
called hijras. The term transvestism was coined by Magnus Hirschfield in 1910. Endocrinologist
Harry Benjamin pioneered clinical management and proposed treatment protocol for these
individuals.
Much confusion exists between the terms transvestite, transgender, and transsexual. A transvestite
is a heterosexual male who wears traditionally feminine clothing. The layman term for transvestite
is cross dresser . A transgender person is one who experiments in dual male and female roles
opposite to birth gender. In contrast to both, a transsexual is a person with the condition gender
dysphoria who changes their physical, natal gender to the opposite gender.
Transsexualism is a psychiatric diagnosis. In the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual

  • 2. A Comparison of Exxon and Chevron Executive Summary Exxon and Chevron are no doubt some of the leading incorporated oil companies on the globe. Exxon Corp. is the second largest oil firm after Royal Dutch Shell, it is respected for getting the biggest revenue return in 2008 which no company in the U.S. have ever reported before. According to Wilson (2009) Chevron has managed to show a lot of profitability in the market despite the decease in its oil production. It graded as one of firms which made a billion dollars profit within a week in the period of July to September 2008. Regardless of profitability trends set by the two oil firms in the U.S. market, they have been facing financial decline like the rest of the companies in other industries. The two firms are like two sailing ships which are taking longer time to sink. In the last few years, the production capacity of Chevron and Exxon has decreased and their listings on the stock market have become weak. The continuation of construction and drilling which requires billions of dollars in expense of oil production might make them experience a bigger financial crisis (Wilson, 2009). Exxon and Chevron are so different in a number of ways. When you compare Chevron to Exxon, Chevron is a smaller firm. The ratios of Exxon are relatively larger than Chevron s. Nevertheless, Chevron has a got a wide net working capital and market ratio than its counterpart Exxon. This therefore, means that because its larger networking capital, Chevron needs a lot of money ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Weigh My Truck Research Paper Fleet owners, carriers and individual truckers are all governed by federal restrictions when it comes to the weight of vehicles that operate on the Interstate Highway System, which covers roughly 50,000 miles of limited access, divided highways that traverse the country. States also set their own commercial vehicle weight standards and limits. Currently, federal standards allow for 20,000 pounds on a single axle, 34,000 pounds on a tandem axle and 80,000 gross vehicle weight. Failure to comply with these limits results in fines and unnecessary delays. Heavy duty and semi trucktechnology helps keep drivers and carriers out of trouble and in compliance with the restrictions. CAT Scale Locators The only way to comply with federal weight restrictions for trucks is to weigh the vehicle to assure it s compliant. This is done via a certified CAT scale where the truck and trailer drive over a scale and the axle weight and total vehicle weight are calculated. Locating a CAT scale nearby is a simple matter with an app that can be downloaded and used from any smartphone. All programs promote child development and learning and focus on effective approaches to connect with children and families. One of the programs that I have heard mostly about is Head Start. I would like to work in a Head start program because of the impact it has on children s development, and after reading about it I know have more understanding on the program. Head start focuses on parent involvement because research has showed that the more parents become involve in their children s early childhoodeducation the better they will do in school. • 10. The Fight Against Drug Trafficking Essay There continues to be a struggle in the fight against drug trafficking from Mexico into the United States. Although measures have been put into place at the border, the profits made from the illicit drug trade in addition to the other illegal activities has made it difficult determining who has not been corrupted. Mexican presidents both past and present have taken to the military to try and eradicate the problem, but have been met with force. As a result of the cartel violence, the rising death toll has hit a staggering number. While the number itself is substantial, the manner used by these organizations to commit these acts of violence range from kidnappings, to decapitations and mass killings. Drug cartels have not stopped short of any means necessary to meet their goals and have even joined forces with once rival gangs to do so. This has led to further instability within the country. Programs in place are continuing to fund the joint efforts between the United States and Mexico in hopes of deterring the influence and destructive power of Mexican drug cartels. Mexico s Drug Cartels With its weak judicial and police foundations as well as having close proximity to the world s largest consumer economy, has made Mexico the hub of one of the world s most sophisticated drug networks. • 12. Act I Of Puccini s La Boheme Act I of Puccini s La Boheme is an Opera that was written in1896. The song describes an encounter between a man and woman who eventually fall in love. The woman goes to a mans house to relight her candle. While she is there she faints, once she awakens she relights her candle then leaves. She quickly returns once she realizes she is missing her key. While both are now searching for the key in the dark both of their hands meet and it is love. Puccini makes fluctuations in tempo, which affects the mood of the song. It changes from and innocent tone to a more majestic tone towards the end. The continuous dialogue between the characters allows the elaboration of the story on how they met and fell in love. This movement is written in a time signature of 2/4 in b flat minor. Overall I liked this piece a bit more, it was overall more timid, yet romantic at the same time giving it a heroic and majestic mood. • 14. Figurative Language In Erik Larson s Devil In The White City A Tale of Two Cities Serbian poet, Dejan Stojanovic, once stated, Devil and God two sides of the same face. When looking at Chicago during the Columbian Exposition, there were two sides of Chicago known as the white city and the black city. The white city was the fairgrounds where the World Fair occurred. The black city, however, is the rest of Chicagowhere the crime, poverty, disease, and filth was represented. Erik Larson constructs the black and white city in Devil in the White City by incorporating figurative language, imagery, and juxtaposition. One of Erik Larson s main ways of building the black and white cities is through figurative language. Larson expresses that Chicago is likened...to a human being with his skin removed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Using descriptive diction such as eerie and swamp readers can imagine an unpleasant city rustling with filth and crime. Larson exposes that Chicago had auras of mosquitoes in its midst. Readers automatically see Chicago as a filthy and troublesome town when they associate it with mosquitoes. When the World Fair was finished, Larson described the nights, the lamps that laced every building and walkway produced the most elaborate demonstration of electric illumination ever attempted (254). Larson says the lamps laced the walkways in the white city which allows readers to picture the city in a whimsical way. The feeling of the word laced sits with readers in a positive way. Thus, Larson can achieve the purpose of forcing readers to see the white city in a luxurious fashion. Also, Larson mentions that the lighting was elaborate. Readers see the white city as a sophisticated and lavish place rather than how they see the black city. Larson again is able to persuade readers into believing the magic of the white city. • 15. Voter Turnout And Voter Apathy Voter turnout is commonly regarded as one of the most distinct issues within American politics of the last century. Though the United States once averaged a turnout rate of 78% of eligible voters in presidential elections between 1860 and 19001, the average voter turnout of the 21st century has fallen to around 52%2. The cause of the marked decline throughout the 20th century is often attributed simply to voter apathy, but the issue is much more complex. Upon analysis, it is clear that a number of factors have contributed to the decreased rate of voter turnout, of which voter apathy is perhaps the least influential. The decline in voter turnout in presidential electionsfrom the 19th to the 20th century is most likely a result of the instatement of the Australian ballot, the structure of the American electionsystem, and an increased disillusionment with the government over the last century. Until the late 19th century, voting was not entirely private in the United States, which led to inflated voter turnout in presidential elections due to the corruption it allowed. Initially, there were very few regulations imposed on voting. Ballots, for example, could be printed in any size or color and often were printed so that one could tell to which party it corresponded just by looking at it. A voter s name might be called out or recorded when he placed a vote. Others could even view the ballot of another until it was officially cast3. This lack of privacy in casting votes allowed ... Behavioural Disruption In The Classroom All children need to feel safe and respected, so they can learn and develop socially and emotionally however, behavioural disruptions can negatively affect the learning environment causing interruptions in the classroom. To manage behavioural disruptions effectively, it is important to consider the individual s needs in relation to their situation and which behavioural strategy can best support the student. The main goal of behaviour intervention is to guide students to learn and manage their own behaviour (Meyer Evans, 2012). The Neo Adlerian theory approach focuses on the implementation of positive behavioural management in the classroom, using strategies such as positive student teacher relationships that promote value and a sense of... Choice theory asserts that human beings have five basic needs: (1) survival, (2) love and belonging (sharing and cooperating with others), (3) power and control (by achieving, accomplishing, being recognised and respected), (4) freedom (making choices in our lives) and (5) fun (laughing and playing) (Lyons, Ford Arthur Kelly, 2011). Students may not be fully aware of their basic needs but understand that there are some general circumstances that strongly relate to the way they feel. For example, students realise that when people pay attention to their words or actions they feel powerful; by making choices they feel the importance of freedom; and through laughter they learn about fun (Brooks Young, 2011). These constitute the source of all internal motivation and guide their behaviour. However, the behaviours through which individuals choose to satisfy those needs may be quite different. Individuals choose to behave in different ways to fulfil their needs because their quality worlds are different (Brooks Young, 2011). Choice theory suggests that teachers can help students identify the circumstances that trigger their behaviours, which in turn ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Through accident I was concealed from the glade, although I could see into it perfectly. The sun was warm there, and the murmurs of the forest life blurred softly into my sleep. When I awoke, dimly aware of some commotion and outcry in the clearing, the light was slanting down through the pines in such a way that the glade was lit like some vast cathedral. I could see the dust motes of the wood pollen in the long shaft of light, and there on the extended branch sat an enormous raven with red and squirming nestling in his beak. Teams that are below the average would bid in once process on the first X number of picks (X represents the number of below average teams), while the above average teams would bid in a second process on whichever of the first fourteen picks remain. • 26. The Government Of The People Democracy is, and will always be, as one of America s past presidents Abraham Lincoln stated in his Gettysburg Address, government of the people, by the people, and for the people. The exact definition for democracy is a system of government by the whole population of a state, typically through elected members. The original idea of democracy that America s Founding Fathers promoted has shifted throughout the years. America was founded on the principles of freedom and liberty and many of these freedoms and liberties are being stripped away, or are at risk of being stripped away, by the American government. America is no longer a democracy, but it is an oligarchy. America is considered an oligarchy because of one reason, and that reason is that power lies in the hand of the elite wealthy. The majority of the population in America belongs to the middle class. The preferences of most American citizens have little impact on government. Instead, the responsiveness of government is strongly tilted towards the most affluent citizens . Those who reap the benefits are the ones creating policies. As U.S. supreme court justice, Louis Brandeis, stated, America can have democracy or it can have great wealth concentrated in the hands of a few, but it cannot have both. Oligarchy and democracy cannot coexist. It is true to say that since the founding of America, freedoms and rights of all who have inhabited this land have greatly increased. Analysis Of Dalton Conley s You May Ask Yourself Dalton Conley s book, You May Ask Yourself, defines sociological imagination as, The ability to connect the most basic, intimate aspects of an individual s life to seemingly impersonal and remote historical forces (Conley 2015, pg. A 11). Sociological Imagination is the idea of being able to step outside of the box, and evaluate society from an alternative point of view. Symbolic Interactionism, norms, socialization, and the idea of understanding yourself vs. understanding the social aspect of society, are some of the key concepts mentioned throughout this paper, to help break apart what the sociological imagination consists of. Society is changing a lot, and change can sometimes make it hard to cope with the world around us. Sociological imagination is a lot deeper than just common sense. Author of The Sociological Imagination, C. Wright Mills states, Talking about sociological imagination is what makes us feel more grounded in the face of all these changes (C. Wright Mills). If I keep an open mind, and pay attention to the larger world around me, I am better to understand the connections of what is going on in my individual life, and what is going on in the social world. Casey (1992), the Supreme Court established that restrictions on abortion are unconstitutional if they place an undue burden on a woman seeking an abortion before the fetus is viable (). Since the roe decision, anti abortion lawmakers have not been able to ban abortion outright. Instead, they have developed a very successful strategy of limiting a woman s access to the procedure and restricting the procedures that physicians can use to perform it (76). The restrictions that were given made life harder for women. All of these laws are meant to dissuade a woman from going through with the abortion. Feminists oppose the restrictions. They view the laws as condescending to women, who they feel know how to make up their own minds about this personal, private decision (77). When they eventually make their way back to a clinic, they may be much farther along in the pregnancy, when the procedure becomes more invasive, potentially more dangerous to the mother, and much more expensive (77). We are so caught up in our rituals and religious objects of worship being different from one another, we often miss the fact we all worship something similar; a god or gods of higher cosmic power. We get so caught up in representations of our own religion, sometimes we take it out on others who do not believe the exact same thing we do. It is not uncommon for religious followers to be intolerant of another s religious beliefs and practices. It is this kind of negative behavior which leads to exclusivism or excluding others from certain privileges or treating someone differently because of their religious beliefs. In some extreme cases, religious beliefs clash in violent ways. There are instances when people lose touch with the message and end up fighting for the symbol. If someone s religious beliefs clash so strongly with another groups and one group is so ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Sex Hormones And Its Effect On Gender Introduction. Gender is complex (Lippa, A R 1994) there are unlimited influences that affect each and every one of us as we develop as human beings; we are all unique models, shaped not only by our DNA but also by the physical and emotional environment in which we find ourselves including our biological genes, sex hormones and ongoing genetic and hormonal changes can be defined as nature and influence physical development and sexual identity while family background, class and belief systems, described as nurture affect gender through the encouragement of social norms and familiar gender roles. (Fausto Sterling, A 2008) Away from the biological, peer group influences, such as school friends and their families also reinforce gender stereotypes while in the wider world mass media, from children s TV to advertising campaigns, government guidelines on education and community structure and various external influences such as culture and religious beliefs, and according to Fausto Sterling (2008) all form the mannerisms of the individual and define gender In this paper I aim to use the examples of two well known products to examine the way in which toy manufactures have impacted on this complex structure and to explore whether or not they exploit traditional stereotypes for better or worse. I will also be looking at reports from psychologists and sociologists to back up the views surrounding gender exploitations and the effects they may have on children. This is an ... Florida State Football Team Analysis A new school year begins the start of a new football team as the Seminoles lost several players earlier this year from quarterback Jameis Winston, wide receiver Rashad Greene, running back Karlos Williams, and tight end Nick O Leary to the NFL Draft. Currently, The Florida State football program upholds the record for most recent draft picks with a record 29 under their belt since 2013 along with three consecutive times Atlantic Coast Conference Champions and national title. When the season starts, there will be players to watch such as new quarterback Everett Golson that will replace Heisman Trophy winner Winston. However, with the highs, there are some lows as most people will be concerned with his turnovers because of his 14 interceptions and losing eight fumbles. In comparison, Winston did the worst during his last season with the Seminoles as among the 39 FBS quarterbacks that passed over 3,000 yards and still managed to take the team to the playoffs. As a quarterback, Winston counted on his teammates like returning running back Dalvin Cook to assist in making great plays and wins for the football team all the way to the playoffs. The football season begins with the ranked team playing their first game at home since 2012, and it is against an unranked opponent. As the team has a winning streak of 14 starting home games since 2009, hopefully, this game will add another home game win for the Noles to make it number 15 for the team. When the game starts tonight, it will be their first meeting between FSU and Texas State as the Seminoles take on the Bobcats at Doak Stadium. • 44. `` 6 Harsh Truths That Will Make You A Better Person `` By... 6 Harsh Truths That Will Make You A Better Person is a listicle written by David Wong, the chief editor of the website cracked.com . In this article, Wong takes an atypical side to the tradition self help style of writing. He approaches the genre with an aggressive, volatile, angry tone to motivate those who find themselves unmotivated. Wong divides his audienceinto two distinct groups. He uses a scene from the famous 1992 movie Glengarry Glen Ross to his aid. This particular scene is the Alec Baldwin, If you want to work here, CLOSE! speech that received massive critical praise. Wong uses this scene to parallel the audience to those who worked under Alec Baldwin. Wong directly then divides the audience into those who get things done in the face of adversity, and those who fail to even step up to challenge. After making this distinction, Wong then targets those who fail to step up to the challenge, and proceeds to portray his ideas on how to improve one s dire situation. However, what Wong doesn t fully understand is that through this article, he truly alienates the group that he is trying to assist in the first place. Wong s use of vulgar language, from the very first line to the concluding paragraph, makes an informal attempt to grab an audience s attention. This caustic style of informality effectively makes the audience cringe and not responsive to the article s message. Wong also uses different forms of media, ranging from pictures and videos to help assist his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to the Business Dictionary, motivation is also the internal and external factors that stimulate desire and energy in people to be continuing interested and committed to a job, role or subject, or to make an effort to attain a goal. Furthermore, conscious and unconscious interactions are the reasons for motivation. These conscious and unconscious interaction factors include: intensity of desire/need, incentive/reward value of the goal, and expectations of the individual and of his or her peers. As a whole, these are the causes for a person behaving a particular way (Business Dictionary, 2016). • 46. Mr Darcy Irony At the beginning of the novel, Elizabeth is unaware of Mr. Darcy s affection for her because of his hostile manner. Mr. Darcy comes off as rude and prideful to Lizzy when she overhears Mr. Darcy refer to her as tolerable; but not handsome enough to tempt me (Austen 13) to Mr. Bingley. Elizabeth is thinking Mr. Darcy was merely insulting her looks, and creates a premature opinion about his character. This is an example of dramatic irony because Austen hints to readers Darcy s feeling towards Lizzy, and it is recognizable that Darcy is just trying to deny and cover up his interest towards her. The irony can give readers a feeling of excitement because they posses knowledge that the protagonist and other characters do not. The irony also adds ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Effects of Slavery on America Effects of Slavery on American History Andrew Avila US History 1301 Dr. Raley April 18, 2013 The U.S. Constitution is primarily based on compromise between larger and smaller states, and more importantly, between northern and southern states. One major issue of the northern and southern states throughout American history is the topic of slavery. Although agreements such as the Three Fifths Compromise in 1787, and the Thirteenth Amendment in 1865 were adapted to reduce and outlaw slavery, it took many years for slavery to be completely abolished and allow blacks the freedom they had been longing for. This prevented the bill from becoming an actual law. President Lincoln took active measures to get the proposed bill on the Republican Party platform for the 1864 presidential election. After several months of debate, the bill finally reached the two thirds vote on January 31, 1865, although the signed amendment s archival copy states the bill was passed February 1, 1865[8]. After the approval of the Thirteenth Amendment, Congress passed four statutes known as the Reconstruction Acts. The Reconstruction Congress was required to pass two laws that implemented the Thirteenth Amendment[9]. The first was the Civil Rights Act declaring that freed slaves were allowed to enjoy the same rights as white people. This law made it a crime on the federal level to deprived freed slaves of these rights. The second was the Anti Peonage Act of 1867 which made the holding of any person as a slave unlawful[10]. The Thirteenth Amendment completed the abolition of slavery in the United States. The process to abolish slavery began with President Lincoln s issuing of the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863. Although the Thirteenth Amendment outlaws slavery and involuntary servitude, officials had to selectively enforce laws such as vagrancy forcing blacks to be subject to involuntary servitude. Intravenous treatment has been used for many years to prevent and relieve the effects of sudden edema attacks caused by spontaneous activation of the complement system within the victim s cardiovascular system. We were Chaldean a small Catholic minority originating from northern Iraq with ties to ancient Mesopotamia. The dinners provided me with a gateway, bridging my everyday experience with my ancestral culture. On Mondays, I would return to school with leftover dolma or beef kafta, which established an immediate rapport with other Chaldean students and helped to form the basis of many long term friendships. Years later, once I had graduated to the adult table at our Sunday dinners, I noticed a predictable trend. Sometime after the plates had been cleared, but before the baklava and coffee were served, the family conversation would shift to a discussion about the Iraq War, eventually giving way to passionate and lively debates. Depending on their geographical location and socioeconomic backgrounds, youth have experienced this worldwide culture differently. One similarity amongst these selective groups of adolescents is the political freedom that has come with engaging in the hip hop scene. Hip hop allows Black youth in the United States, immigrant youth in France, and Afro Cuban youth in Cuba to express criticism toward the racial marginalization that they face in order to gain the equality that society prohibits them from acquiring. Hip hop has evolved into a source of activism and inspiration that allows Black youth to address the flaws within the criminal justice system and simultaneously comfort the audience of color who experience such discrimination. Today, hip hop artists, including Kendrick Lamar a rapper from Compton, California, practice musical and visual activism. Lamar s song Alright incorporates heartfelt emotion, and lyrics including Alls my life I has to fight and Wanna kill us dead in the street fo sho . Lamar demonstrates that even though he has become a well recognized and greatly admired rapper within the hip hop culture, he continues to face racial subordination in a society who claims that racism was left in the past. This team did not have in place the necessary aligned group dynamics to meet the standard of a high performing team. In Kreitner Kinicki, the first stage known as Forming states the team member should develop a mutual understanding in order to work efficiently and effectively (Pg. 274). Eric quickly formed a team of highly diverse members but good at their own field: Randy Lowerback (director of sales and marketing), Ray LaPierre of manufacturing, Maureen Turner of the design division and Carl Simmons of distribution. They all were the most capable person of what they did but working as a team, there were too many problems arose. Firstly, there was the lack of a clear goal. Eric had been clearly assigned as the leader of a team. That meant there must be a clearly defined goal for everyone to work toward, positive synergy and accountability between members. They must define what needed to be done in order to achieve their one and only goal, with a clear schedule. Moreover, all team members should share mutual interest in accomplishing the goal. • 55. Gender Dysphoria, By Magnus Hirschfield Notes on articles Gender dysphoria, also known as transsexualism, is the incongruence between gender and biological sex. Biological males who are gender dysphoric receive treatment with estrogens and anti androgens to become feminized, while gender dysphoric biological females will receive androgen treatments to become masculinized. Many adolescents diagnosed with this condition are given hormones to suppress puberty to make the process easier. Social marginalization and barriers to proper care are typical issues for people with gender dysphoria. Many cultures historically have cross gender identities, for example, Native Americans call these individuals two spirit persons, and in India, physiological males with feminine gender identity are called hijras. The term transvestism was coined by Magnus Hirschfield in 1910. Endocrinologist Harry Benjamin pioneered clinical management and proposed treatment protocol for these individuals. Much confusion exists between the terms transvestite, transgender, and transsexual. A transvestite is a heterosexual male who wears traditionally feminine clothing. The layman term for transvestite is cross dresser . A transgender person is one who experiments in dual male and female roles opposite to birth gender. In contrast to both, a transsexual is a person with the condition gender dysphoria who changes their physical, natal gender to the opposite gender. Transsexualism is a psychiatric diagnosis.
