Essay On Women In Politics
Crafting an essay on the intricate subject of women in politics can be both challenging and
rewarding. Delving into this topic requires a comprehensive understanding of historical contexts,
current political landscapes, and the nuanced challenges that women face in the political sphere.
The complexity arises from the need to navigate through a myriad of perspectives, ranging from
feminist theories to political ideologies, and to strike a balance that does justice to the
multifaceted nature of the subject.
Addressing the historical struggles of women in politics involves meticulous research to grasp
the evolution of their roles, rights, and societal perceptions. Analyzing the present scenario
requires staying abreast of the latest political developments, policy changes, and the
achievements and setbacks that women encounter. Furthermore, capturing the diversity of
women's experiences across different cultures, socio-economic backgrounds, and political
systems adds an extra layer of intricacy to the essay.
The writer must also be adept at weaving together a narrative that not only presents factual
information but also offers insightful analysis and interpretation. Balancing objectivity and
advocacy is another tightrope to walk, as the essay should shed light on the challenges without
sacrificing the academic rigor expected in such a piece.
Moreover, tackling the subject of women in politics often involves confronting ingrained
stereotypes, biases, and systemic issues. The writer must be prepared to engage with these
sensitive topics with empathy and accuracy, all while maintaining a coherent and compelling
argument.
In conclusion, composing an essay on women in politics demands a careful synthesis of historical
awareness, contemporary insights, and a deep understanding of the social and political dynamics
at play. It is a task that necessitates not only research skills but also a nuanced approach to
address the complexities inherent in the topic. However, the opportunity to contribute to the
discourse surrounding gender and politics makes the endeavor worthwhile, as it allows for a
deeper understanding of the challenges and triumphs women face in their pursuit of political
representation.

Compare And Contrast Art And Renaissance Art
When one ponders the significance of the artwork that was produced during the
Renaissance, Baroque and
Rococo stylistic periods, advancement in scientific understanding during these
periods may seem to be nothing more than an afterthought. For centuries, the quest
for scientific knowledge and understanding by the artisan community had been
smothered by the Christian church who fulfilled the role of main patron of art during
the Middle Ages. However, the
15th to 18th century experienced a turning point, not just creatively, but also in
relation to artisans inculcating an every increasing scientific knowledge base into
their creative works (The Art Institute of Chicago, 2003). The Renaissance in
particular, which by definition means rebirth, set in motion a ... Show more content on

The intent of this short essay is to illustrate how one work of art from each of the
following stylistic periods demonstrated the deepening relationship between art and
scientific knowledge:
Renaissance, Baroque and Rococo. During the Renaissance, one of the most
influential artists, Leonardo Da Vinci, embodied the spirit of the
Renaissance due to his multifaceted expertise in numerous fields outside of art.
Leonardo Da Vinci had a passion for scientific exploration, specifically relating to the
anatomy and physiology (A P) of the human body (The Art Institute of
Chicago, 2003). Da Vinci was passionate about learning as much as he possibly
could about A P so that he can accurately and precisely portray the human body in his
artwork (The Art Institute of Chicago, 2003). Numerous sketches have been found in
the pages of Leonardo s journals with vividly detailed sketches of the skeletal system,
muscular system, and organ systems of the human body. One work in particular
entitled sketch of Uterus and Foetus brilliantly illustrates how Leonardo melded
science and art. On first glance, the eye is immediately drawn to the detailed

Callaway Golf Company Case Analysis Essay example
Callaway Golf Company
1.)The defining business and economic characteristics of the golf equipment
industry can be measured by looking at the makeup of the industry itself. The case
states that there are approximately 26 million Americans who play golf. 5.4 million
play at least twice a month. These numbers are expected to grow by 1 to 2 percent a
year until at least 2010. Of the U.S. golfers, 25% are seniors, 5.7 are women, and 2.1
million are juniors. The typical golfer is a 39 year old man who earns about $66,000
annually. Golf has also started to expand globally with 16 million and 2 million
golfers in Asia and Europe respectfully. In 1999, the golf equipmentindustry took in

6.)Callaway s strengths include a great research and development department, a
recognizable name brand, being innovators in the golf equipment industry,
maintaining strict guidelines to ensure the quality of all its products is superior,
good leaders (mainly Ely Callaway) and having great customer relationship skills. A
couple of Callaway s weaknesses are a relatively low stock price and high levels of
inventory. Some opportunities include expanding its product lines into new areas like
golf balls; going after different segments of the market like the beginner golfers;
improving its marketing campaign by signing new endorsers; and building/designing
new golf clubs that will continually revolutionize the golf industry. A few threats
facing Callaway including losing the gap in innovation with its competitors; a
downturn in the golfing environment; changes in leadership may cause the company
to suffer; and losing market share to current or new competitors.
7.)Callaway structures it value chain so that each component always results in
improving the product s worth to the end customer. At the beginning of the chain,
Callaway tries to produce clubs that will create the best performance by its users.

Before America could have any Founding Fathers, the country needed Sons of Liberty
to stand up to the British government. These men harnessed the outrage that spread
following Parliament s Stamp Act of 1765, which charged an inner tax on the
colonies. Though the Stamp Act was canceled, the disagreement over taxation
without representation wouldn t drive away, consequential in events like the Boston

Similarities Between Populist And Progressive Movements
Populist and Progressive Reform in American History Throughout American history,
reform was common among people of a particular, race, gender, or class used to
accomplish change. The emergence of the populist and progressive movements were
a response to the changing climate in American society due to rapid industrialization,
an ethnically diverse personality of a young nation, and birth of American
imperialism. Disgruntled American farmers that wished to advance their economic
position initiated the Populist movement. Progressives pushed to improve urban
labor conditions, dismantle trusts and monopolies, conserve of environment, and to
install an active government. Populism and Progressivism had many similarities and
differences, which... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Discontented farmers, despite their passion, lacked the numbers to make a national
impact. They accomplished many of their goals, though most were not recognized as
populist achievements. Ultimately, class played a primary role in the apparent failure
of the populists in comparison to the success of the progressives. Despite the brevity
of its existence, the Populist movement exercised a profound influence on subsequent
U.S. political life. Almost all the Populist demands, which at one time were widely
viewed as radical and contradictory to America s free enterprise system, were
eventually enacted into law. The Progressive Movement was an outgrowth of
previous reform eras, including the ideas first presented by the Populists. While many
Progressives were originally anti Populists, they eventually came to believe that the
large corporations and other monopolies that they were trying to reform were similar
to the farmer s revolts against the railroads and commercial practices and regulations
of the government. As a continuation of populist ideology, the progressive movement
accomplished a great feat with the passing of the Interstate Commerce Act and the
Sherman Antitrust Act. The Interstate Commerce Act of 1887 created the Interstate
Commerce Commission, the first true federal regulatory agency, to control the issues
of railroad abuse and discrimination. Railroad companies were required to have and
publish reasonable
Lego s Partnership With Oil Interests And The Destruction...
On July 8th, 2014, Greenpeace released a video criticizing LEGO s partnership with
oil giant Shell. The video, which has become a rallying point for environmental
groups, sought to force LEGO to end its partnership with Shell due to Shell s plans to
implement offshore drilling in the Arctic. Fearing that the drilling would lead to a
massive oil spill which could destroy the Arctic ecosystem, Greenpeace used the
video to garner worldwide attention to the issue. Painting the relationship between
LEGOand Shell as promoting oil interests and the destruction of the Artic gave
Greenpeace an environmental issue that the rest of the world could identify with.
Keeping the Arctic and its ecosystem intact is in the interests of people globally,
which made the video advertisement even more potent.
Factual Assertions
Evaluating Greenpeace s ad for factual claims proves to be a tricky affair. Since the
medium used is LEGOs, their ability to portray real life situations is a little distorted.
While this does not take away from the effectiveness of the ad, it makes it harder to
determine what is actually factual.
The most obvious factual claim in the ad would be the partnership that has existed
between Shell and LEGO. This relationship has been in place through a series of
co branding deals since the 1960s. LEGO and Shell agreed to create a set of toys
that carries the Shell logo and would be sold at gasoline stations worldwide. The
intended effect was to put LEGOs in the hands of more

and quality of life; however, only few people have longer and healthy lives.
According to Dan Buettner in How To LiveTo 100 , healthy habits and life styles
have demonstrated good results in people of different cultures for increasing life
expectancy. Buettner s study found some communities that can live more than 85

In countries that families are tight and have close relationships, elder people can live
healthy and longer, feeling that they are important and useful for new generations
(Buettner, part 14).. Specifically, in Sardinia elder people are recognized for their
wisdom and their positive influence in their children life. For example, the
grandmother effect is important to prevent diseases and death in both, elder and
young people (Buettner, part 15). As an illustrion, Buettner exorts the importance of
the family in Blue Zones societies and how they take care of their children and elders
building healthy and strong communities and this behavior impacts life expectancy
(Part 15). Although some American people are extremely independent, in my
neighborhood is possible to plan communities activities that involve different
generations such us tennis, basketball and volleyball tournaments and another
activities in holidays, taking advantages of the neighborhood facilities; thus, spending
time in family and establishing close and strong relationships is an important fact
than my neighbor s families could be considered to increase life

A Case Study of One Student s Approach to Reading The Divine Image
Hypothesis
When Marielle, an English 2 student, was given a series of critical thinking tasks,
her first response to the poem, The Divine Image, by William Blake changed as she
followed the direction of each task and built on her previous understanding of the
poem. I describe her responses to the eight learning paper tasks and her dissection of
the poem for hidden meanings.
The Tasks and Various Interpretations
For each learning paper, Marielle was given eight different ways to interpret
The Divine Image, by William Blake. Learning paper 1 asked her to read the poem
out loud, write down any ideas that came to mind, then write a summary of what the
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For learning paper 2, she had to reread the poem, then detect and define key words
that made a strong impact on her. What Marielle did was define some of the words
she felt were strong Mercy, Pity, Love and Peace. She then reread the poem and was
asked to reinterpret it. After she identified key words, she felt that this poem is
trying to reinforce the importance of being kind to others and treating them as God
would. Mercy, Pity Peace and Love are being reinforced as necessary human
qualities. She looked up the literal meanings of the key words, wrote them down, and
added comments next to the definitions. After defining and commenting on these key
words, her opinion differed.
I am able now to see the correlation between the title the Divine Image and the song
itself. The divine image is expressed in its human form through the actions and
feelings of Mercy, Pity, Peace and Love. The Divine Image is referring to God,
humans can be Godlike by performing these four feelings and actions.
She now felt that humans were considered Divine only if they use Mercy, Pity, Peace
and Love. In the beginning, though, she felt that one had to treat others with the same
respect like God and that the characteristics were simply important for humans. Even
though her opinion changed, she didn t use the dictionary s literal meanings to write
a translation of the poem, rather she constructed her version of the poem with the
words of the

earthly habitat is not unexpected, it is worth more than anything in this world. For
by him all things were created: things in heaven and or earth, visible and invisible,
weather thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him
and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together (Colossians

God tell us to care for our bodies, so also we can praise God by the care we give to
our environment. In Papua New Guinea the church group got together of 15
people and wrote a book on Christians caring for the environment. In New Guinea
there focus was the future of their kids, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Also the change in our personal lifestyle practices can help. For example, smoking
which we are polluting the earth. The homes we buy, why do we need all the
technology in the world in our house. Another way Christians we can preserve our
environment is by using alternate methods of transportation. For example, in
Tokyo most people do not even own cars they ride bikes to the train station to
utilize resourceful means to get to work. The way gas prices keep going out we
are going to have to rely on public transportation which is better for the
environment now than driving vehicles. I am glad that now we have Hybrid cars
to help with the pollution. Many religions have different insight on how to preserve
the environment. For example In India, they practice Hindu which means ( the
external essence of life ). They believe that it is clear their God which is known as
Vishnu is part of everything. The environment is a place with people with
consciousness such as land, plants, animals, and people in which all are connected.
They believe all living creatures have souls, and when people or animals die their

Why Do People Repeat The Past In The Great Gatsby
You can t repeat the past. Yes, you heard right, as much as we want to stay in the
moment it won t last endlessly sadly. Now there are those that take to accept that
reality and those who refute it and try to do their best to avert the inevitable. There
is a great book that depicts this perfectly, and that is The Great Gatsby By F. Scott
Fitzgerald. One of the main characters Gatsby believes you can repeat the past. Then
there is another main character named Nick who tells him that you can t do it. One
ends up being correct and the other, well he ends up dying because his belief led
him to die for it. Now why is this the way it is? Well its because of three main
reasons, one being it s in human nature to not being able to experience something...

future that year by year recedes before us. Orgastic means to experience something in
an instance while recede means to move further away from a further position. As you
can see they both tie in with time, Orgastic because time goes by that you
experience it and moments later it s gone, while recede, time pushes us further
from where we once were when we were younger. Another remark in page 151
states He talked a lot about the past...his life had been confused and disordered
since then. In this account we know that Gatsby liked to talk a lot about the past
but we also find out that since time has passed he has grown confused and
disordered since back then. He has experienced new things, his body has gotten a
little bit older, as previously mention, time changes you as a person, both mentally
and physically. At the end Daisy moved on as time passed while Gatsby didn t

These two poems, or monologues, were written by Robert Browning (My last
Duchess) and Alfred Lord Tennyson (Ulysses), in the 19th century during the reign
of Queen Victoria. Many other influential writers were also born in this period.
During this time, Britain s population doubled from 17.5 million to 37 million.
Britain was a very powerful nation with a strong economy, and had a very large

The worlds of both speakers are evoked by the presence of silent listeners, a feature
of the dramatic monologue. In the case of My Last Duchess the silent listener is a
servant of the Count of Tyrol who has come for marriage negotiations with the Duke
and to see if he would be a suitable husband for the Count s daughter. The Duke has
control over the servant through veiled commands; for example, Will it please you to
sit is actually a command to sit. In Ulysses the silent listener changes throughout the
poem. Some examples of the silent listeners in this poem are his kingdom and his
fellow mariners.
Robert Browning presents the power of the Duke through his attitude to others. At
the beginning of the poem he refers to the hands of a monk from the early Tuscan
Renaissance, Fra Pandolf . By referring to only his hands, the duke demotes the
monk to the only things that are useful to him, to create the painting of his Duchess.
The painting is a possession which he can control, unlike the living Duchess, and he
keeps a curtain drawn in front of it so that no one but he can see the Duchess. The
Duke also mentions Claus of Innsbruck who cast Neptune taming a sea horse for me
. The emphasis on the word me shows that the Duke thinks he has power over famous
craftsmen and how he can get them to do what he

The Effectiveness Of A Connection
The Effectiveness of a Connection in Relation to a Tragedy As art becomes more
prevalent, intricate, and sophisticated in culture so does its impact on a viewer. A
viewer must experience a work of art and connect to it in order for it to be considered
effective. Ajax by Sophocles can be considered a work of art because of its ability to
connect to an audience. Sophoclesplay follows a warrior named Ajax who was
threatening to kill Odysseus to obtain the armor he believed was rightfully his,
which causes the goddess Athena to cast a curse leaving him blind with rage and in
a state where he slaughters hordes of animals believing that they are his enemies.
Ajax later becomes distraught to the point of suicide. Bryan Doerries produced a
version of Ajax to relate to veterans through his company, Theater of War. This
company s specific purpose is to de stigmatize psychological injury, increase
awareness of post deployment psychological health issues, disseminate information
regarding available resources, and foster greater family community, and troop
resilience through the performance of Ancient Greek plays to military and civilian
communities (Outside the Wire). Because of this purpose, the audience is able to
form an intense connection with Ajax and fulfill the purpose of art. While looking at
Aristotle s Theory of Tragedyand the six most important features of a tragedy, it
becomes apparent that connection through all six features is the only way to create
effective art.
Glaeser City Sociology
1.According to Glaeser, cities attract talent and innovation due to its abundance of
opportunity. Historically, workers migrate to cities in search of employment and
upward mobility, as demonstrated by many cities migration patterns in the early
twentieth century as a result of the Industrial Revolution. However, Glaeser claims
that in order to attract wealthy people, like Indian billionaire Lakshmi Mittal to
London, a citymust prove to be pleasant and not only abundant in opportunity but in
entertainment because of all the people cities import. Restaurants are a major source
of entertainment in urban life, primarily for the experience of eating out and the fact
that eating out is more convenient since many homes in a city lack adequate... Show

city with sufficient urban amenities, while those high real wages were a sign of
urban failure the painful crime rate and disintegration of urban amenities (104).
According to the data given of American metropolitan areas, Fresno has the lowest
real wages at $44,501 while Tulsa has the highest at $70,260. By Glaeser s argument,
Fresno should be the metropolitan area with the greatest amenities. However, Fresno
has the lowest median family income and second highest cost of living index. Out of
the five cities, Boston is the most cosmopolitan. The city is rich with entertainment
establishment and enjoys a high median family income. Yet, Fresno appears to offer
more amenities than Boston and definitely Tulsa with the highest real wage. In
Glaeser s logic, a city must be doing something wrong if it has high real wages.

Mark Twain s Use Of Political Satire
Satire is often regarded as one of the most effective ways to understand a society. It
reveals the values of the society and serves as an amplifier for its ills. Mark Twain
once said, the human race has only one really effective weapon and that is laughter.
Satire has long been a tool of political criticism, a means to make a moral point and to
attack vice and folly using wit and ridicule . The word satirecomes from the Latin
word satur and later satura which translates roughly to poetic medley. Through the
use of art, traditionally, prose and poetry, satire has continued to make a difference in
shaping public consumption and perspective of news and encouraging activism,
advocacy and civil participation.

Talent of news illustrators merged after the election of President Andrew Jackson
and his artistic depiction as King Andrew I , the Mexican and Civil Wars.
American political cartoonists truly found their voice during the Civil War, when
they deployed satire to both comment on the unfolding events and the political
decisions behind them and also to provide the popular reading audience with some
much needed levity during such violent times. The May 4, 1861 issue of Vanity
Fair included this cartoon showing Abraham Lincoln and Columbia (the
personification of the United States) tending a garden seeded by Union soldiers,
with the hope of growing a hardy country in red, white, and blue. A more pointed
example comes from the May 2, 1863 issue of Harper s Weekly, which carried
news of the Civil War as it was unfolding. Yankee Doodle (aka Uncle Sam), cautions
a blacksmith against his over confidence by making a presidential sword for
Jefferson Davis: Wal, look out it don t fly up and hit yer in the eye! And finally, a
complex image showing Abraham Lincoln and Jefferson Davis in the Arena of War
bludgeoning each other with large purses, with the caption Final Issue of the War
The Longest Purse Wins, drove home the point that many believed the North s
victory to be the result of economic rather than military might. It appeared in the
March 1, 1864 issue of Frank Leslie s Budget of Fun. Thomas Nast became nationally
known and developed many of the symbols still familiar in American cartooning: the
Democratic donkey, the Republican elephant, the Tammany tiger, and many more.

Cloud Computing System For Computing
Cloud Computing Introduction Cloud computing system, which functions based
on the concept of providing computing as a utility, can be defined as the method of
providing resources for computing on demand, using remotely operational servers
on the internet for data storage, processing data and managing data. Its equivalent
to using a computer for its services, only without having to carry the hardware for
it. Cloud applications, being dynamically scalable, agile and capable of running
virtual applications and even an OS on a browser help in reducing costs of
resource acquisition. A cloud computing model has the following basic features:
Without involving any human interaction, the users can access any contracted
service/ resource, be it data processing, memory space or application programs as a
service from the provider. These contracted services/ resources can be availed by
any user anywhere, anytime via the internet. These computing resources are
distributed in various data centres across the globe which is shared by users from
any part of the world. It goes by pay what you use for policy. The user pays only for
the resources they use. Also, a big advantage is that from a user s perspective, all
the resources are unlimited, and flexible for access. Good QoS (Quality of Service)
is guaranteed by the provider. The cloud services are elastic. So the user can ask for
more services/ resources whenever they require, also terminate, when not required.

I have always had an interest in firefighting. When I went to the votech to try out

I found an interest in the teamwork, physical activities, and bondship to share with

Twelve Key Economic Indicators
Economic Analysis
In order to obtain a rounded view of the economic environment within the U.S.
twelve key economic indicators can be observed. These fall into the categories of
leading and lagging indicators. Based on the data of these indicators, a picture of the
current and future economic environment can be obtained.
The seven lagging indicators used to capture this economic picture include GDP
changes, income levels, unemployment rates, the Consumer Price Index, the U.S.
Dollar Index, interest rates, and corporate profit levels. Beginning with GDP, figure
1A shows the quarterly percentage change in GDP for the United States. This data

economy, five leading indicators can be observed. These include the stock market,
inventory levels, retail sales, new housing starts, and the housing market. The two
primary measures used for the stock market are the NASDAQ and S P 500 indexes
[figure 2A]. The S P 500 index has steadily grown at a low rate over the past five
years, and the NASDAQ index has grown at a faster rate. There is indication that
the stock market began to plateau starting in the second quarter of 2015. Inventory
levels, as seen in figure 2B, show growth through 2014, but began to decline
starting in 2015. Retail sales [figure 2C] show a similar trend, as they showed
steady growth through 2014, but show indications of plateauing, as growth declined
in 2015. However, residential construction and housing show a different indication.
New housing starts, shown in figure 2D, have steadily grown over the past five
years, with a very slight decline in average growth rate in 2013. Housing prices
within the U.S. have grown steadily since 2011 [figure 2E].
These leading economic indicators give the general direction that the U.S. economy
is headed. The data indicates that there may be a slowing of growth within the
economy. There is no strong indication of economic downturn, but the slowing of
growth indicated could hint at an increased chance of downturn in the more distant
future. Taking the lagging indicators into account as well, it can be seen that the U.S.
economy has slowly grown as it was recovering from the 2008 downturn, but the
future holds the possibility of slowing growth in certain

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) made it mandatory that
all vehicles to be equipped with electronic stability control (ESC). By the 2008

well as maintains control when drivers swerve. ESC senses when a driver may
lose control and automatically applies brakes to individual wheels (Outer front

stabilize the vehicle and avoid a rollover [6]. Considerable research has been
undertaken over the years to differentiate rollover according to severity and to
develop a standard rollover test. In most cases the studies are applicable to passenger

The High Quality Road Networks Construction
Highways are extremely important to a nations development in economical way. The
high quality road networks construction directly leads to an increase in the nation s
economy and its output by reducing the factors. For example, journey, time and costs.
Such advantages can make the nation more economically attractive. According to
Roger L. Brockenbrough(2009, p.2) Highway projects can possibly bring about huge
social, environmental, and financial impacts and, as an outcome, are the subject of a
broad range of environmental regulation. According to Chin, A.T.H. (2006, p.1 1),
most highway programs depend on pay as you go , i.e., paying for construction,
maintenance and administration as money got to be accessible from client charges.
In many countries, even in great times incomes may not be sufficient. Increased
public demand for transportation services continue to strain existing highway and
drained financial resources. In this essay, the following definitions will be used.
According to Bhargab Maitra(2015, p.7) Highway is an engineering that involves the
planning and location, design, construction, traffic operation, environmental, social
impacts and maintenance of roads, bridges, dams, tunnels, etc... to ensure safe and
effective transportation of people and goods. This essay will discuss the factors that
need to be considered when constructing a major highway. All other things being
equal, stronger, longer lasting, low cost highway materials are desirable and, given
Compare And Contrast Frederick Douglas And Chief Seattle
Mrs. Lyons Frederick Douglass vs. Chief Seattle Frederick Douglas and Chief
Seattle both experienced disadvantages because of their race and culture around
the years 1850 1855. Frederick Douglass was a former slave abolitionist who
fought to change America and the Africans who were enslaved in it. Chief Seattle
was the leader of the Suquamish Tribe and he too was determined to change the
citizen s perspective about how his people were being treated. Both authors wrote
compelling letters/speeches to the President to convince him and the citizens to
spark change for their race by using pathos, description, and cause/effect in their
dialogue. Douglass and Seattle use pathos to evoke a certain emotion out of the
reader in order to make them feel the same way as they do. Douglass uses
examples to stir emotion. He says, What am I to argue that it is wrong to make
men brutes, to rob them of their liberty, to work them without wages, to keep them
ignorant of their relations to their fellow men, to beat them with sticks... Douglass
continues on with more examples highlighting the injustice to draw an emotion
out of the reader. Chief Seattle uses pathos but in a different way. Instead of
pulling examples from the past, he foreshadows to future problems that could
occur. He says, All things are connected. Whatever befalls the earth befalls the sons
of the earth. Seattle also uses religion. Our God is the same God. You may think
that you own him as you wish to own our land, but you cannot. When religion is
placed in the mix, emotions stir; it becomes more personal to the reader because
they can relate on a certain level. In order to get their points across effectively and
proficiently, Douglass and Seattle used description. Both authors use description to
help the reader form an image in their mind. This tool helps the writer create a
connection with the reader with the use of details. Frederick Douglass describes in
detail the wrongs he and his people experienced through slavery. He says, What, to
the American slave, is your 4th of July? I answer; a day that reveals to him, more
than all other days in the year, the gross injustice and cruelty to which he is the
constant victim. It s essential that Douglass uses
Semi-Structured Interviews
5)Methods and Ethics
The proposed research study will be semi structured interviews. According to
Bernard (1988) it is the best used method, when wanting to interview several
interviewees to collect valuable data. Using this method gives a clear guide of
instructions of the interview, it provides a reliable, comparable source of qualitative
data, when starting to draw the findings together. Semi structured interviews will be
used because as the researcher, the purpose of the research is to gain an
understanding of identifying talent in males aged 18 and above. This will be done by
interviewing just male scouts and coaches, and looking at their perceptions on what
they believe talent is. Bernard (1988) suggests the benefits of using semi ... Show

Regarding to the dissertations ethics, it is a sensitive topic to be examining, as this
study is a study that is interacting with its participant. As a researcher it is vital that
when interviewing the coaches and scouts, that their names and personal information
isn t shared or talked about, when gathering the data after collecting it. Bootle et al
(2012) suggests that semi structured interviews have the chance of being sensitive to
its participants, this can make interviews emotionally intense. So making sure the
interviewee isn t feeling pressured to answer the questions, a making sure allowing
time for a concise answer to the questions being addressed.
Another issue could be the amount of access to data that the interviewee gives, it s
vital that an interviewer asks open questions as this gives the interviewee the
opportunity to reveal more information about the topic than what they would when
using closed questions, giving the potential to discover more than initially asked for.
By using this method and approach the interviewee will hopefully feel less pressured
to answering the specific questions that are set out, and the interview will come
across as more conversational which may relax the
Analysis of Friedrich NietzscheВґs Book 5 of The Gay...
Friedrich Nietzsche s own skepticism symbolized the secular changes in
contemporary Western civilization, in which he details mankind s break away from
faith into a new rule of chaos. In Book 5 of The Gay Science, Nietzsche establishes
that God is dead , meaning that modern Europe has abandoned religion in favor of
rationality and science (Nietzsche 279). From this death, the birth of a new infinite
blossoms in which the world is open to an unlimited amount of interpretations that do
not rely on the solid foundations of faith in religion or science. However, in contrast
to the other philosophers of his age such as Immanuel Kantand Georg Wilhelm
Friedrich Hegel, Nietzsche deviates from the omniscient determinism of history
towards a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite such claims, Nietzsche criticizes this mistaken idea that the knowledge of
the universe can be comprehended by any method; he argues that not even the most
scrupulously conscientious analysis and self examination of the intellect cannot
successfully interpret the progressive history of the world as the human intellect
cannot avoid seeing itself in [only] its perspectives (Nietzsche 336). To Nietzsche,
Kant and Hegel s attempts to find truth in history is faulty because faith is just now
found in science and reasoning rather than religion. What Kant and Hegel fail to
realize is that the human race s separation from this faith gave rise to our new
infinite , in which the world has become infinite for [humanity] all over again,
inasmuch as we cannot reject the possibility that it may include infinite
interpretations (Nietzsche 336). Thus the new infinite is self consciously made by
the individual members of humanity itself, as we can now independently interpret
the world ourselves as we see fit. Nietzsche declares that even if some of these
interpretations may include too much devilry, stupidity and foolishness , it does not
matter because it does not rely on faith (Nietzsche 336). The new infinite that arises
is ours, in which the abundance of perspectives is too overwhelming for any scholar
to give meaning to such chaos. There is no logical reason how such disorder should
A Wondering Ideal in Walden Essay
Henry David Thoreau writes of his experiences in his two year experiment of self
reliance on Walden Pond near Concord, Massachusetts. It is my opinion that Thoreau
thought of himself as better than the average person and to an extent better than the
person reading his very work. The allusions and ideals expressed in this work wreak
of a smug and better than though context. The purpose of this experiment was to
enact the philosophies and ideals of self reliance and simplicity. His ideaof simplicity
is strewn throughout this work, ranting through a seemingly indecipherable mixture
of allusions, metaphors, and actual ideas. One that I think is really very important is
the concept of modern improvements (Thoreau 95). During a... Show more content on

Although I do not agree, his reasoning behind it is quite simple. The distance that a
train travels is thirty miles and its fare for this distance is ninety cents, almost a
days wage (96). He says that he can ultimately arrive quicker on foot, than a person
riding this train. He can walk this distance with no cost or debts involved but to ride
this train a person must first work to earn this ninety cents and then take the train,
which then in turn, will sum to be more time consuming than simply walking this
distance. This example is one of many that further reinforce this idea of self reliance
and simplicity.
The chapter titled Where I lived, and What I lived for talks about his search for a
plot of land suitable for his intended purpose, among other things. In my opinion,
his ideas wander through metaphors and references that may have been suited for
different readers with a different knowledge base. In the second page of this
chapter, his whole idea of simplicity is brought up again. He says that, a man is rich
in proportion to the number of things which he can afford to let alone (126). In my
estimation, he simply means that a man is rich, not in terms of tangible wealth, but
in knowledge and self control by what he stand to live without. Thoreau tells us that
his home was located by the shore of a small pond, about a mile and a half south of

Strategic Change 2: Management Buyout and turnaround
Under these circumstances, a group of 13 H D executives bought the company
from AMF in 1981. The buyout was funded by Citicorp, one of the leading banks
in the US. The new management took immediate steps to reorganize H D s
operations to meet the competition from its Japanese counterparts and regain its
leadership status. In a move to help the floundering United States motorcycle
industry in 1983, President Ronald Reagan and his government, in a pure
protectionist mindset, increased tariffs on large Japanes motorcycles from 4.4%
to 49.4%. But this increase was only effective for five years and would decline
annually. Since it was the subject of a management buy out in 1981, unit sales had
risen from 41,000 in 1981 to 291,000 in 2003, turnover had increased from $289
million to $4 620 million and after reporting their first ever operating loss in 1982,
net profits had grown steadily to reach $760 million in 2003. A stock market listing
had been obtained in 1986, since which time the stock price had shown an annual
compound growth rate of over 40%, giving the Company a value in excess of $18
billion by 2005.
Strategic Change 3: Entering the low cost segment
Harley dominated the American motorcycle market over 750 cc for years. Harley
tried to introduce new products. But its customers refused and never accepted
anything but a H D motorcycle. Jeff
Free Trade Should Encourage Those Things
All of us looks for full job, high expectation of living and high quality of life. Free
trade should encourage those things, yet we do not have free trade. This is genuine
statement since when the government negotiate, things are not as basic as they
should be. The government imposes laws and limitations along with taxes, which no
longer make trading free. Free tradeis not what we know: high pay jobs that will lift
the living standard of lower class people but it is the hunger, poverty, disease,
environmental degradation.
Free trade agreement set up global organizations to administer the members. it
guarantees that all parties people with the terms of exchanging agreement. The
issue with free trade in America is it liberality give opportunity for foreign
business to control over US marketplace. This has raised in high unemployment
rates due to the facts that buyers and companies can buy foreign merchandise for
somewhat less than local item. As Robbins said, people are more vulnerable to
hunger if opportunities for employment decrease, if wages fail, or if food price
rise; they can starve even in the midst of food availability (Robbins,162). If each
nation can deliver what it excels at and grants exchange, as time goes on everybody
will appreciate lower costs and larger amounts of produce, income and utilization that
could be accomplished in disengagement.
Trade limitations that are set up by the government on foreign items bring down the

Research Paper On Scoliosis
This article is about the physical disability known as scoliosis, which makes the
normally straight spine curve 10 degrees or more in a c or s shape. The curve can
happen to the left, right, or go both ways on different parts of the spine. It is found
more often in adults than children. 1 in 10,000 children get scoliosisat birth, they
usually get it when they are older.
There are three different types of scoliosis, and three different causes, besides
scoliosis being hereditary. It is important to stress that scoliosis is not caused by and
is not bad posture. The first type is congenital, when the child is in the uterus the spine

Parents will probably be the first to notice the signs when their children start
wearing bathing suits. Once they see something is wrong and the child is taken to a
doctor, the doctor will have the child do the forward bending, or Adams, test. The
child will stand with feet together and bend over to touch their toes, keeping their
legs straight. If the doctor sees the traits when the child does that then the child will
get a xray to get a better understanding of which type the child has and to what
degree the curve is. The doctor may also check through the child s history to see if
anything is there that could have caused it.
Children with scoliosis may have spine or back problems, and if they need a brace
they may not get to do all the activities everyone else can do. Children may also
have a lack of social skills with other children if they spend time with adults in the
form of therapists, or have examinations or in severe cases surgeries and have to be

Electronic Spectrum Case Analysis
The Australia Communications and Media Authority (ACMA), on behalf of the
government, held an auction for 700 MHz band spectrum in 2013. Spectrum was
sold to two bidders, Optus Mobile and Telstra, for a price of almost two billion
dollars. Two 15 MHz lots on the 700 MHz band spectrum were left unsold, which
were auctioned in 2017 (Australia Communications and Media Authority [ACMA],
2017). This paper provides a historical background of the winning bidders,
implications to businesses and the public, notable public discussion, and key
economic, political, and social impacts of the 700 MHz band spectrum auctionin
Australia, which commenced on April 4, 2017.

Regulation of spectrum is necessary in order to avoid monopolization, allocate
spectrum (it is a renewable, yet limited resource) and promote competition within the
mobile services industry. Monopolization, seen in various industries, results in higher
prices for consumers and less accountability for the quality of services (Sharwood,
2016). ACMA maintains a competitive industry by regulating the process of
allocating spectrum.
Public commentary, debates, and controversies The public opinion was largely
positive, as consumers saw the benefit in the improvement of services. The chairman
of ACMA, Richard Bean (Johnston, 2017), explained the benefits of the auction: This
additional spectrum will help industry meet ever increasing demand for high speed
wireless broadband. The public has realized record rates of return from the sale, and
should now benefit from the services this 700 MHz spectrum can provide . In
contrast, a common negative opinion argues that spreading spectrum too thin across
multiple mobile service companies results in worse network coverage due to too
much competition and not enough investments in infrastructure (Sharwood, 2016).
Consultation about whether to send the unsold spectrum to auction occurred over the
course of five weeks and encouraged input from the public via the government s
website. People were able to visit the website and submit their arguments
The Impact Of Social Media On Social Movements
Social Media in Social Movements The article How the Bundys social media
machine fed their political movement by Lindsey Bever on The Washington Post
discusses how social media was a driving force in the Bundys Occupation of the
Oregon Wildlife Sanctuary (2016). The Bundys used social media to communicate
with their followers and as a call to arms in times of need. In addition, they used
social media to promote their cause, to support local ranching and lessen the
government s possession of land. In the article, communications professor Phil
Howard states, It s very difficult to have a modern political movement without a
social media strategy to emphasize the influence of social media in social
movements. After a lull in social media activity, the Bundys came back to protest
the prosecution of Dwight and Steven Hammond, who were ranchers who
committed acts of arson on public land in 2012 (Bever, 2016). This lead them to
react and occupy a building on a wildlife sanctuary in Oregon. After a period of
time, the F.B.I. stepped in to shut down the occupation of the wildlife sanctuary, this
lead to the arrests of many members and the death of one, LaVoy Finicum. After
Finicum was shot, his daughter used Facebook to confirm his death. Fearing a raid,
later a man used Finicum s YouTube channel to also announce his death and make
another call to arms. Finally, they used social media to issue a stand down. The
usage of social media was near imperative to the Bundys cause and

Descriptive Essay About Old Man
The Old Man
Another day, a different date, I thought as I started another boring pattern that I have
followed for years. I am unsurprisingly, unmotivated to wake up another day of my
life to just waste it waking up early to go to Graden Elementary to sit in a class full
of people for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, for 9 months at a time for 21 years! Why?
Because knowledge is power! Luckily, it is only 2nd grade, where basic math
principles are taught along with fancy words, like chocolate, that you have to
memorize how to spell. Everybody passes 2nd grade. even if you fail every subject. ,
you would not get held back until 3rd grade. I ended up failing an assignment, which
was my first F, and I did not care a bit. I walked around, casually smirking while I
brag about how I got an F! It was the first letter grade anyone has ever seen, so I was
cool. To everyone s perspective when they are in 2nd grade, school is merely a
place to socialize. They do not realize exactly what grades are and how they can and
will affect their lives. The teachers ended up calling my parents, and right when I got
home, my mom said, Get in the CAR!
When the car came to a sudden halt, I read a sign that said Episcopal Community
Service Soup Kitchen. I was bewildered at how weird the structure looked. It was a
massive gray concrete lump sticking out of the ground, almost shaped like a dome,
except it had an almost flat ceiling. The inside was incredibly scorching, with all
doors closed and the massive boiler iron pot in the middle of the dome. When I
walked in, I got slapped by the smell of a mixture of soup and mildew. It was the
most nauseating smell combination I have ever experienced. But, I did not come
here for soup, my mom said she wanted me to meet someone. She took me up to an
old man. He was wearing a jet black T Shirt with worn blue jeans. His face was
surprisingly unwrinkled for his age. We sat down, and my mom and the old man
started talking. After a minute of them talking, he glares at me and shook my hand
with a really firm grip,. Hello Branden, your mother has talked a lot about you.
Awkwardness flooded over me, but neither him nor my mom seemed to notice I was
silent while they talked, trying to decipher what

Have you ever tried on someone else s shoes? In this instance I am talking in a literal

There was a boy by the name of David Vetter, otherwise known as David, the bubble
boy . He suffered with a rare disease called severe combined immunodeficiency
(SCID), this disease is hereditary and causes the immune system to weaken. This
caused him to have to live in an extreme sterile environment. He could not attend
any functions without having a special suit that NASA built for him, and even still
he had to be connected to the bubble he lived in. David lost his life to this disease
at the age of 12, and that s when his story was told. Rejection does this same thing
to others. When rejection happens to a child they will live in a bubble until they
realize what God s plan is for their lives. You might be saying, Brandee people do
not live in a bubble. Yes, not physically. Yet emotionally, and spiritually you began
to live in a bubble. This bubble will cause you not to trust anyone, and that trust
will be lost within yourself also. Most of all your trust will be lost in our Lord and
Savior. You will began to think everyone will reject you, and this can make it hard
to live your life. When you lose trust in others it becomes hard to create
relationships, because God uses people to help us. How do you lose trust in
yourself? You lose it because if rejection seems to be a constant, you lose trust in your
judgement and choices. At that moment you forget who you are, and
Memory And Repression Analysis
Memory used for testimony and convictions can be a very controversial way to
incarcerate those who are being accused of a crime. For instance, some may believe
that witness statements are reliable evidence able to prove someone s innocence or
guiltiness. Despite this, witness statements may contain lies or hidden, yet essential,
parts of the truththat had been purposefully forgotten, which is also known as
repression. In addition, witnesses or victims who have experienced trauma will most
likely experience amnesia as a result of facing an appalling act. Memories of
witnesses or victims should not be used to convict people who are allegedly charged
with a crime.
Many interviewers tend to interfere with the victim s current memories by pressuring

One such case depicts this scenario, which is the Friedmans case. In the documentary,
Capturing the Friedmans, former computer students who had once attended Arnold s
classes were interviewed about the situation. When asked whether they had recalled
anything inappropriate going on in that class, some admitted while others denied.
This just goes to show that using memories is inaccurate and repression are
sometimes used to deny these accusations. However, even if these people were not
using repression, they may be experiencing amnesia due to the traumatic occurrences
of these horrendous events that happened during their childhood. Nonetheless,
whether the former computer students did lie or truthfully forgot about it, these
memories should still not be used to convict people wrongfully without hardcore
evidence.
To sum up, courts should not use memories of witnesses as a way to imprison those
who are charged with a crime. This is because memories tend to be easily influenced
and can also contain concealed lies within it. As a result, there is inaccurate
information told in the witnesses statements. Furthermore, interviewers include lots
of bias in their questions, which eventually screws up the truth since the potential
victims are put into too much pressure. Memories should not be used to convict
people with a crime because it is an unreliable approach to claim someone guilty or

The Life Of Elie Wiesel s Night
Imagine a dark, crowded place full of despair where you are almost always
undergoing forced labor, waiting to die, with no way out. This is the experience Elie
Wiesel wrote about in his famous book, Night. I have doubts that most people in the
world could even begin to express all the pain that must bring them. But that s exactly
what Elie Wieseldid. Born in Sighet, Romania on September 30th, 1928 Also a
popular professor at universities in many places, Wiesel wrote nearly 60 pieces of
literature, over 35 of those being books, before his death on July 2, 2016.
The events in Wiesel s life have led up in almost perfect succession, almost as if they
were asking him to write Night, and show the world the horrors of the Holocaust.

Even when people were ignorant, Wiesel still believed in acting against this world s
injustices.
Night gave Wiesel a fair amount of fame, but that is not the important part. What is
important is that it gave the world a new perception of the Holocaust, and opened up
people s eyes to the almost unspoken suffering at the concentration camps.
Wiesel s life made him an author and share his terrifying Holocaust experience with
the world.
Before the Holocaust, Elie Wiesel lived peacefully, with his grandfather and father
giving him the tools of knowledge for writing.
Wiesel ended up in France, where the experiences and people around him ended up
with him writing Night.
After Night got published, Elie Wiesel s work became well known and gave him
acheivements, along with many other things.
If you were to survive a prison of war, would you come forward and tell the tale? Or
would you leave the experience to slowly rot away, along with how people treated it,

Essay about The Taiwan-China Conflict
In deciding on which course of action would be the most appropriate in resolving the

and Taiwan begun negotiating the various Interpretations of Taiwan s relationship to
China, or the oneВChina principle (Myers 1). The negotiation however was

by Straits Exchange Foundation or SEF while China was represented Association for

It s Just Not Natural Essay
There is a saying that goes Don t be afraid of the dark, but the question is why should
you be afraid? One reason why this saying came about is because people believe that
something non human exists out there. People believe that witches, shapeshifters,

Only 21 percent of Americans say they don t believe in the supernatural at all (

These are said to get a high reading of electromagnetic frequencies whenever a spirit
is present. A lot of people think the readings are fabricated, from the EMF detector
having a malfunction and short circuiting from a wiring problem, but there is an
explanation behind the readings. Einstein had a theory that energy can be
converted into matter and matter into energy ( Six Types of Hauntings ). Because
people are made up of matter, on a level it is believed that we in a way also exist as
energy and this energy surrounds us while we live. This energy that surrounds us
is sometimes known as an aura. It surrounds us and projects our thoughts and
feelings around us. When we die, people are said to lose six ounces instantly. Some
people believe that the reason we instantly become lighter is because when we die
the aura that constantly surrounds our bodies, leaves our bodies ( Six Types of
Hauntings ). Although many people doubt the existence of auras, it explains the
weight loss at death and the reason why ghosts can be picked up by EMF meters.
Spirits tend to be peaceful, but slightly sorrowful , mourning a life that has passed
them. The reasons why a spirit may stay around is because it felt incomplete with
it s previous life and still believes that it has a purpose to serve whether watching
out for a loved one, keeping watch over people who live in the spirits old house, or
maybe even reliving moments of their life that they can t let go of yet. Most ghosts

Essay on The Great Gig in the Sky
At a late Thursday night, I have received word that I would perform in a fancy ball
room. With only two weeks of experience I had a gig in front of a hundred people.
Like many first gigs, the stage plays tricks on you and makes you feel inferior.
Stage fright had to go away at some point, so I decided for it to be this Saturday
night. Countless of hours put into this one night, I would practice day in and day
out. There was something for me to prove. You don t have to be naturally talented
and experienced to become successful or to perform at a high level. All it takes is a
little self confidence and hard work. Is two weeks enough for a musician to pick up
an instrument and perform? A sunny day in Houston, Texas. Just this morning I have

My heart quickly accelerated and continued to run for its life. I looked at my hands
which were beginning to moisture. The thought of performing with little
experience struck me down. I was a nervous wreck and I knew that within the next
five minutes. I will give it my all or die trying. I patiently waited to be called. A
loud thumping noise is heard as I head over to the door and open the door. It was
my father. There is no need to feel nervous. You worked so hard and pushed
yourself to prove a point. Although that may be true, you worked so hard not only
for success but also for the enjoyment of performing. My dad had turned his back
on me and faded away. I stood still thinking about what he has told me. There was a
better reason to why I stood up so late and practiced so much. From the beginning,
playing an instrument was a wonderful experience. With a confident look and a
brighter self esteem. I was ready to rock n roll! I treasured the moment. I put on my
shades and walked across the hall with a determined look. I made my way backstage
and was suddenly called to the stage. The spotlight was brighter than the suns ray. I
foolishly put my shades back on and take a look around me. Complete silence was
around me. Such a quiet, yet eerie atmosphere. Eyes across the stage followed me
like a homing missile. I strum a chord and begin playing. A rough start was quickly
changed whenever the music began progressing. After all, all that practice made me
Baseball Force
The pictures above show something most people are probably familiar with.
Especially during this season, baseball is extremely popular, and is one of America
s most well liked sports. Two huge components of the game, the pitcher throwing the
ball and a batter hitting it, are shown in the two pictures. The picture was taken of
two players on the Gonzaga University team, one player pitching the ball and the
other player up to bat, at the baseballfield in Patterson Complex.
The sport of baseball revolves around the pitcher throwing the ball, and the batter
hitting it to a designated spot. The throwing of the ball involves many physical
concepts. There is force applied to the ball, and it flies through the air with a certain
velocity, and there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Putting spin on the ball results in a curveball. Jon Drobnis, author of The Physics
Behind Baseball, states that air flows swiftly under the ball, causing it to dive
when it is thrown with curve. A curveball spins from top to bottom, opposite of a
fastball, which spins from bottom to top. The ball is given curve by snapping the
wrist as it is thrown (Griesmer, 2014). The air flowing under the ball is caused by
the existence of air resistance. Air resistance is also called drag, and it is the
forces opposing an object in motion through the air. They act opposite to the
direction of the object s velocity, and they depend directly on velocity. The ball
flying through the air meets the opposing force of air resistance, which causes air
to flow under the ball creating low pressure, and air to flow over the top of the ball
creating an area of high pressure. If the ball lacked spin, the air would simply flow
around the ball, rather than over it and under it. Throwing a curveball causes the
ball to deviate from the straight path of the pitcher to the catcher, and it also causes
the ball to drop suddenly before it reaches the batter. As the ball is flying through
the air, it deviates slightly from the straight path a fastball would normally take.
Although it only deviates from the straight path by a few inches, from the point of
view of the batter it looks as if the ball curves about 15 inches from the straight

Ultimately, class played a primary role in the apparent failure of the populists in comparison to the success of the progressives. Despite the brevity of its existence, the Populist movement exercised a profound influence on subsequent U.S. political life. Almost all the Populist demands, which at one time were widely viewed as radical and contradictory to America s free enterprise system, were eventually enacted into law. The Progressive Movement was an outgrowth of previous reform eras, including the ideas first presented by the Populists. While many Progressives were originally anti Populists, they eventually came to believe that the large corporations and other monopolies that they were trying to reform were similar to the farmer s revolts against the railroads and commercial practices and regulations of the government. As a continuation of populist ideology, the progressive movement accomplished a great feat with the passing of the Interstate Commerce Act and the Sherman Antitrust Act. The Interstate Commerce Act of 1887 created the Interstate Commerce Commission, the first true federal regulatory agency, to control the issues of railroad abuse and discrimination. Railroad companies were required to have and publish reasonable
  • 8. Lego s Partnership With Oil Interests And The Destruction... On July 8th, 2014, Greenpeace released a video criticizing LEGO s partnership with oil giant Shell. The video, which has become a rallying point for environmental groups, sought to force LEGO to end its partnership with Shell due to Shell s plans to implement offshore drilling in the Arctic. Fearing that the drilling would lead to a massive oil spill which could destroy the Arctic ecosystem, Greenpeace used the video to garner worldwide attention to the issue. Painting the relationship between LEGOand Shell as promoting oil interests and the destruction of the Artic gave Greenpeace an environmental issue that the rest of the world could identify with. Keeping the Arctic and its ecosystem intact is in the interests of people globally, which made the video advertisement even more potent. Factual Assertions Evaluating Greenpeace s ad for factual claims proves to be a tricky affair. Since the medium used is LEGOs, their ability to portray real life situations is a little distorted. While this does not take away from the effectiveness of the ad, it makes it harder to determine what is actually factual. The most obvious factual claim in the ad would be the partnership that has existed between Shell and LEGO. This relationship has been in place through a series of co branding deals since the 1960s. LEGO and Shell agreed to create a set of toys that carries the Shell logo and would be sold at gasoline stations worldwide. The intended effect was to put LEGOs in the hands of more

According to Dan Buettner in How To LiveTo 100 , healthy habits and life styles have demonstrated good results in people of different cultures for increasing life expectancy. A Case Study of One Student s Approach to Reading The Divine Image Hypothesis When Marielle, an English 2 student, was given a series of critical thinking tasks, her first response to the poem, The Divine Image, by William Blake changed as she followed the direction of each task and built on her previous understanding of the poem. I describe her responses to the eight learning paper tasks and her dissection of the poem for hidden meanings. For learning paper 2, she had to reread the poem, then detect and define key words that made a strong impact on her. What Marielle did was define some of the words she felt were strong Mercy, Pity, Love and Peace. She then reread the poem and was asked to reinterpret it. After she identified key words, she felt that this poem is trying to reinforce the importance of being kind to others and treating them as God would. Mercy, Pity Peace and Love are being reinforced as necessary human qualities. She looked up the literal meanings of the key words, wrote them down, and added comments next to the definitions. After defining and commenting on these key words, her opinion differed. I am able now to see the correlation between the title the Divine Image and the song itself. The divine image is expressed in its human form through the actions and feelings of Mercy, Pity, Peace and Love. The Divine Image is referring to God, humans can be Godlike by performing these four feelings and actions. She now felt that humans were considered Divine only if they use Mercy, Pity, Peace and Love. In the beginning, though, she felt that one had to treat others with the same respect like God and that the characteristics were simply important for humans. Even though her opinion changed, she didn t use the dictionary s literal meanings to write a translation of the poem, rather she constructed her version of the poem with the words of the

The worlds of both speakers are evoked by the presence of silent listeners, a feature of the dramatic monologue. In the case of My Last Duchess the silent listener is a servant of the Count of Tyrol who has come for marriage negotiations with the Duke and to see if he would be a suitable husband for the Count s daughter. The Duke has control over the servant through veiled commands; for example, Will it please you to sit is actually a command to sit. In Ulysses the silent listener changes throughout the poem. Some examples of the silent listeners in this poem are his kingdom and his fellow mariners. Robert Browning presents the power of the Duke through his attitude to others. At the beginning of the poem he refers to the hands of a monk from the early Tuscan Renaissance, Fra Pandolf . By referring to only his hands, the duke demotes the monk to the only things that are useful to him, to create the painting of his Duchess. The painting is a possession which he can control, unlike the living Duchess, and he keeps a curtain drawn in front of it so that no one but he can see the Duchess. The Duke also mentions Claus of Innsbruck who cast Neptune taming a sea horse for me . The emphasis on the word me shows that the Duke thinks he has power over famous craftsmen and how he can get them to do what he

  • 17. The Effectiveness Of A Connection The Effectiveness of a Connection in Relation to a Tragedy As art becomes more prevalent, intricate, and sophisticated in culture so does its impact on a viewer. A viewer must experience a work of art and connect to it in order for it to be considered effective. Ajax by Sophocles can be considered a work of art because of its ability to connect to an audience. Sophoclesplay follows a warrior named Ajax who was threatening to kill Odysseus to obtain the armor he believed was rightfully his, which causes the goddess Athena to cast a curse leaving him blind with rage and in a state where he slaughters hordes of animals believing that they are his enemies. Ajax later becomes distraught to the point of suicide. Bryan Doerries produced a version of Ajax to relate to veterans through his company, Theater of War. This company s specific purpose is to de stigmatize psychological injury, increase awareness of post deployment psychological health issues, disseminate information regarding available resources, and foster greater family community, and troop resilience through the performance of Ancient Greek plays to military and civilian communities (Outside the Wire). Because of this purpose, the audience is able to form an intense connection with Ajax and fulfill the purpose of art. While looking at Aristotle s Theory of Tragedyand the six most important features of a tragedy, it becomes apparent that connection through all six features is the only way to create effective art.

American political cartoonists truly found their voice during the Civil War, when they deployed satire to both comment on the unfolding events and the political decisions behind them and also to provide the popular reading audience with some much needed levity during such violent times. The May 4, 1861 issue of Vanity Fair included this cartoon showing Abraham Lincoln and Columbia (the personification of the United States) tending a garden seeded by Union soldiers, with the hope of growing a hardy country in red, white, and blue. A more pointed example comes from the May 2, 1863 issue of Harper s Weekly, which carried news of the Civil War as it was unfolding. Yankee Doodle (aka Uncle Sam), cautions a blacksmith against his over confidence by making a presidential sword for Jefferson Davis: Wal, look out it don t fly up and hit yer in the eye! And finally, a complex image showing Abraham Lincoln and Jefferson Davis in the Arena of War bludgeoning each other with large purses, with the caption Final Issue of the War The Longest Purse Wins, drove home the point that many believed the North s victory to be the result of economic rather than military might. It appeared in the March 1, 1864 issue of Frank Leslie s Budget of Fun. Thomas Nast became nationally known and developed many of the symbols still familiar in American cartooning: the Democratic donkey, the Republican elephant, the Tammany tiger, and many more. Douglass continues on with more examples highlighting the injustice to draw an emotion out of the reader. Chief Seattle uses pathos but in a different way. Instead of pulling examples from the past, he foreshadows to future problems that could occur. He says, All things are connected. Whatever befalls the earth befalls the sons of the earth. Seattle also uses religion. Our God is the same God. You may think that you own him as you wish to own our land, but you cannot. When religion is placed in the mix, emotions stir; it becomes more personal to the reader because they can relate on a certain level. In order to get their points across effectively and proficiently, Douglass and Seattle used description. Both authors use description to help the reader form an image in their mind. This tool helps the writer create a connection with the reader with the use of details. Frederick Douglass describes in detail the wrongs he and his people experienced through slavery. He says, What, to the American slave, is your 4th of July? I answer; a day that reveals to him, more than all other days in the year, the gross injustice and cruelty to which he is the constant victim. It s essential that Douglass uses

Using this method gives a clear guide of instructions of the interview, it provides a reliable, comparable source of qualitative data, when starting to draw the findings together. Semi structured interviews will be used because as the researcher, the purpose of the research is to gain an understanding of identifying talent in males aged 18 and above. As a researcher it is vital that when interviewing the coaches and scouts, that their names and personal information isn t shared or talked about, when gathering the data after collecting it. Bootle et al (2012) suggests that semi structured interviews have the chance of being sensitive to its participants, this can make interviews emotionally intense. So making sure the interviewee isn t feeling pressured to answer the questions, a making sure allowing time for a concise answer to the questions being addressed. Another issue could be the amount of access to data that the interviewee gives, it s vital that an interviewer asks open questions as this gives the interviewee the opportunity to reveal more information about the topic than what they would when using closed questions, giving the potential to discover more than initially asked for. By using this method and approach the interviewee will hopefully feel less pressured to answering the specific questions that are set out, and the interview will come across as more conversational which may relax the
  • 29. Analysis of Friedrich NietzscheВґs Book 5 of The Gay... Friedrich Nietzsche s own skepticism symbolized the secular changes in contemporary Western civilization, in which he details mankind s break away from faith into a new rule of chaos. In Book 5 of The Gay Science, Nietzsche establishes that God is dead , meaning that modern Europe has abandoned religion in favor of rationality and science (Nietzsche 279). From this death, the birth of a new infinite blossoms in which the world is open to an unlimited amount of interpretations that do not rely on the solid foundations of faith in religion or science. However, in contrast to the other philosophers of his age such as Immanuel Kantand Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel, Nietzsche deviates from the omniscient determinism of history towards a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite such claims, Nietzsche criticizes this mistaken idea that the knowledge of the universe can be comprehended by any method; he argues that not even the most scrupulously conscientious analysis and self examination of the intellect cannot successfully interpret the progressive history of the world as the human intellect cannot avoid seeing itself in [only] its perspectives (Nietzsche 336). To Nietzsche, Kant and Hegel s attempts to find truth in history is faulty because faith is just now found in science and reasoning rather than religion. What Kant and Hegel fail to realize is that the human race s separation from this faith gave rise to our new infinite , in which the world has become infinite for [humanity] all over again, inasmuch as we cannot reject the possibility that it may include infinite interpretations (Nietzsche 336). Thus the new infinite is self consciously made by the individual members of humanity itself, as we can now independently interpret the world ourselves as we see fit. Nietzsche declares that even if some of these interpretations may include too much devilry, stupidity and foolishness , it does not matter because it does not rely on faith (Nietzsche 336). The new infinite that arises is ours, in which the abundance of perspectives is too overwhelming for any scholar to give meaning to such chaos. There is no logical reason how such disorder should
  • 30. A Wondering Ideal in Walden Essay Henry David Thoreau writes of his experiences in his two year experiment of self reliance on Walden Pond near Concord, Massachusetts. It is my opinion that Thoreau thought of himself as better than the average person and to an extent better than the person reading his very work. The allusions and ideals expressed in this work wreak of a smug and better than though context. The purpose of this experiment was to enact the philosophies and ideals of self reliance and simplicity. His ideaof simplicity is strewn throughout this work, ranting through a seemingly indecipherable mixture of allusions, metaphors, and actual ideas. One that I think is really very important is the concept of modern improvements (Thoreau 95). During a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although I do not agree, his reasoning behind it is quite simple. The distance that a train travels is thirty miles and its fare for this distance is ninety cents, almost a days wage (96). He says that he can ultimately arrive quicker on foot, than a person riding this train. He can walk this distance with no cost or debts involved but to ride this train a person must first work to earn this ninety cents and then take the train, which then in turn, will sum to be more time consuming than simply walking this distance. This example is one of many that further reinforce this idea of self reliance and simplicity. The chapter titled Where I lived, and What I lived for talks about his search for a plot of land suitable for his intended purpose, among other things. In my opinion, his ideas wander through metaphors and references that may have been suited for different readers with a different knowledge base. In the second page of this chapter, his whole idea of simplicity is brought up again. He says that, a man is rich in proportion to the number of things which he can afford to let alone (126). In my estimation, he simply means that a man is rich, not in terms of tangible wealth, but in knowledge and self control by what he stand to live without. Thoreau tells us that his home was located by the shore of a small pond, about a mile and a half south of the village of Concord

Regulation of spectrum is necessary in order to avoid monopolization, allocate spectrum (it is a renewable, yet limited resource) and promote competition within the mobile services industry. Monopolization, seen in various industries, results in higher prices for consumers and less accountability for the quality of services (Sharwood, 2016). ACMA maintains a competitive industry by regulating the process of allocating spectrum. Public commentary, debates, and controversies The public opinion was largely positive, as consumers saw the benefit in the improvement of services. The chairman of ACMA, Richard Bean (Johnston, 2017), explained the benefits of the auction: This additional spectrum will help industry meet ever increasing demand for high speed wireless broadband. The public has realized record rates of return from the sale, and should now benefit from the services this 700 MHz spectrum can provide . In contrast, a common negative opinion argues that spreading spectrum too thin across multiple mobile service companies results in worse network coverage due to too much competition and not enough investments in infrastructure (Sharwood, 2016). Consultation about whether to send the unsold spectrum to auction occurred over the course of five weeks and encouraged input from the public via the government s website. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One such case depicts this scenario, which is the Friedmans case. In the documentary, Capturing the Friedmans, former computer students who had once attended Arnold s classes were interviewed about the situation. When asked whether they had recalled anything inappropriate going on in that class, some admitted while others denied. This just goes to show that using memories is inaccurate and repression are sometimes used to deny these accusations. However, even if these people were not using repression, they may be experiencing amnesia due to the traumatic occurrences of these horrendous events that happened during their childhood. Nonetheless, whether the former computer students did lie or truthfully forgot about it, these memories should still not be used to convict people wrongfully without hardcore evidence. To sum up, courts should not use memories of witnesses as a way to imprison those who are charged with a crime. This is because memories tend to be easily influenced and can also contain concealed lies within it. As a result, there is inaccurate information told in the witnesses statements. Furthermore, interviewers include lots of bias in their questions, which eventually screws up the truth since the potential victims are put into too much pressure. Memories should not be used to convict people with a crime because it is an unreliable approach to claim someone guilty or

  • 48. It s Just Not Natural Essay There is a saying that goes Don t be afraid of the dark, but the question is why should you be afraid? One reason why this saying came about is because people believe that something non human exists out there. People believe that witches, shapeshifters, hellhounds, ghosts, angels, demons, jinns, and many more supernaturalcreatures exist. Only 21 percent of Americans say they don t believe in the supernatural at all ( Paranormal Poll: Americans... ). These are said to get a high reading of electromagnetic frequencies whenever a spirit is present. A lot of people think the readings are fabricated, from the EMF detector having a malfunction and short circuiting from a wiring problem, but there is an explanation behind the readings. Einstein had a theory that energy can be converted into matter and matter into energy ( Six Types of Hauntings ). Because people are made up of matter, on a level it is believed that we in a way also exist as energy and this energy surrounds us while we live. This energy that surrounds us is sometimes known as an aura. It surrounds us and projects our thoughts and feelings around us. When we die, people are said to lose six ounces instantly. Some people believe that the reason we instantly become lighter is because when we die the aura that constantly surrounds our bodies, leaves our bodies ( Six Types of Hauntings ). Although many people doubt the existence of auras, it explains the weight loss at death and the reason why ghosts can be picked up by EMF meters. Spirits tend to be peaceful, but slightly sorrowful , mourning a life that has passed them. The reasons why a spirit may stay around is because it felt incomplete with it s previous life and still believes that it has a purpose to serve whether watching out for a loved one, keeping watch over people who live in the spirits old house, or maybe even reliving moments of their life that they can t let go of yet. Most ghosts tend to
  • 49. Essay on The Great Gig in the Sky At a late Thursday night, I have received word that I would perform in a fancy ball room. With only two weeks of experience I had a gig in front of a hundred people. Like many first gigs, the stage plays tricks on you and makes you feel inferior. Stage fright had to go away at some point, so I decided for it to be this Saturday night. Countless of hours put into this one night, I would practice day in and day out. There was something for me to prove. You don t have to be naturally talented and experienced to become successful or to perform at a high level. All it takes is a little self confidence and hard work. Is two weeks enough for a musician to pick up an instrument and perform? A sunny day in Houston, Texas. Just this morning I have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My heart quickly accelerated and continued to run for its life. I looked at my hands which were beginning to moisture. The thought of performing with little experience struck me down. I was a nervous wreck and I knew that within the next five minutes. I will give it my all or die trying. I patiently waited to be called. A loud thumping noise is heard as I head over to the door and open the door. It was my father. There is no need to feel nervous. You worked so hard and pushed yourself to prove a point. Although that may be true, you worked so hard not only for success but also for the enjoyment of performing. My dad had turned his back on me and faded away. I stood still thinking about what he has told me. There was a better reason to why I stood up so late and practiced so much. From the beginning, playing an instrument was a wonderful experience. With a confident look and a brighter self esteem. I was ready to rock n roll! I treasured the moment. I put on my shades and walked across the hall with a determined look. I made my way backstage and was suddenly called to the stage. The spotlight was brighter than the suns ray. I foolishly put my shades back on and take a look around me. Complete silence was around me. Such a quiet, yet eerie atmosphere. Eyes across the stage followed me like a homing missile. I strum a chord and begin playing. A rough start was quickly changed whenever the music began progressing. After all, all that practice made me
  • 50. Baseball Force The pictures above show something most people are probably familiar with. Especially during this season, baseball is extremely popular, and is one of America s most well liked sports. Two huge components of the game, the pitcher throwing the ball and a batter hitting it, are shown in the two pictures. The picture was taken of two players on the Gonzaga University team, one player pitching the ball and the other player up to bat, at the baseballfield in Patterson Complex. The sport of baseball revolves around the pitcher throwing the ball, and the batter hitting it to a designated spot. The throwing of the ball involves many physical concepts. There is force applied to the ball, and it flies through the air with a certain velocity, and there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Putting spin on the ball results in a curveball. Jon Drobnis, author of The Physics Behind Baseball, states that air flows swiftly under the ball, causing it to dive when it is thrown with curve. A curveball spins from top to bottom, opposite of a fastball, which spins from bottom to top. The ball is given curve by snapping the wrist as it is thrown (Griesmer, 2014). The air flowing under the ball is caused by the existence of air resistance. Air resistance is also called drag, and it is the forces opposing an object in motion through the air. They act opposite to the direction of the object s velocity, and they depend directly on velocity. The ball flying through the air meets the opposing force of air resistance, which causes air to flow under the ball creating low pressure, and air to flow over the top of the ball creating an area of high pressure. If the ball lacked spin, the air would simply flow around the ball, rather than over it and under it. Throwing a curveball causes the ball to deviate from the straight path of the pitcher to the catcher, and it also causes the ball to drop suddenly before it reaches the batter. As the ball is flying through the air, it deviates slightly from the straight path a fastball would normally take. Although it only deviates from the straight path by a few inches, from the point of view of the batter it looks as if the ball curves about 15 inches from the straight
