The Code And Software Components Of An Information System
To protect any prestigious company and make it safe for both the employees and users certain
safeguards needs to be put in place in order to ensure integrity. Technical safeguards, data safeguards,
human safeguards, account management are some of the essential ways a company can help protect
their image. Technical safeguards include identification and authentication via user names and
passwords, smart cards, biometric authentication, encryption and single sign on for multiple systems.
Another is data safeguards which consists data administration, database administration, key escrow,
backup copies, and physical security for all devices that store database data. Human safeguards are
safeguards for employees, including security sensitivity for position definitions. Account
administration and system procedures are also an important part of data security. These measures are
put in place to ensure that the reputation of the company is upheld throughout its daily operations.
The Use of the First Line of Technical Safeguards to Protect the Business
The hardware and software components of an information system is very important to the overall
functionality of the business organization. To ensure that only the right persons are accessing sensitive
information technical safeguards provide a sense of safety. Identification and authentication is very
critical for any information system. Identification is the unique username that employees are usually
given or is made by themselves. This

The Scientific Revolutions and Copernicus Book Essay
The Scientific Revolutions and Copernicus Book
In the sixteenth and seventeenth century a Scientific Revolution swept over Europe. The start of this
Scientific Revolution has been atributed to Nicolaus Copernicus and his Heliocentric Model of the
Universe.
Copernicus was born in Torun Poland on February 19, 1473. His parents both died when he was very
young so he was sent to live with his uncle who was a high ranking official in the Church. Copernicus
studied canon law, medicine, astronomy, Greek, philosophy, and mathematics. His diversified fields of
study led him to hold the positions of physician, teacher, member of parliament, and canon law expert
for the Church. At the age of twenty Copernicus left Poland for Italy for the ... Show more content on

The Church felt that the earth as the center of the universe showed the special place that man had in
the eyes of God. The Church believed that this model was divine and therefore any criticism on the
Ptolmaic model coud be viewed as direct criticism on God. As a result of the Church s strong view
many scientists were scared from disagreeing with it for fear of being labled as a heretic and possibly
being excommunicated. Copernicus feared the Church so much that he left Italy and returned to
Poland so that he could continue his work without fear of persecution. No one seriously dismissed the
Ptolemaic theory of the universe until 1616 when Galileo began to teach the Heliocentric Model of the
Universe. Galileo proved Copernicus s theory to his students by showing them the planets through the
use of telescopes. The Ptolemaic Model of the Universe stated that the Earth was at the center of the
universe, the planets, stars rotated around the Earth in a perfect uniform circular motion, and that all of
the objects in the Heavens were made of perfect material that could not change.
Nicolaus Copernicus was not the first person to develop the theory of a sun centered universe.
Aristarchus of Samos was the first to propse the theory of a Heliocentric Universe in 200 B.C.. This
theory is very similar to the Ptolemic model of the universe. The major difference is that the sun not

Analysis Of Joseph J. Ellis s The Long Run
Intro: Joseph J. Ellis starts out by stating in his preface that the American Revolution was both
necessary and inevitable. The Revolution has been described as something that was already
preordained, that, with the direction things had been headed in, the Revolution was bound to occur.
With the size and power of the British army and navy, the rebellious disrupters in America should
have been knocked down almost immediately, by logic s rules. Adjacent to this lies Ellis statement
that, in the long run, the evolution of an independent American nation, gradually developing its
political and economic strength over the nineteenth century...was probably inevitable (5). While the
inevitability of America s evolution was to happen under British constraints, Ellis argument is that this
was not the way history happened. His thesis argues that America s success was not a result that could
be clearly predicted, that the advancement of America as its own entity was not like how it is seen as
today. Ellis then splits off into talking about how we need to be both farsighted and nearsighted in
order to truly see America s growth for what it is and has been. On the farsighted side, Ellis talks
about how the isolation of North America and its large reserves of natural resources would have given
America much potential to develop on its own. According to Ellis, if America could survive together
for the first few stages of its development and then push through the British desire for control,

KONE: MONOSPACE LAUNCH IN GERMANY
Factors contributed to the launch performance of KONE on the Netherlands, France and UK? When
launched, sales of KONE s Monospace was the highest in Netherlands, then France and in UK none
was sold in the first 3 months. Monospace is an elevator invented by KONE using the latest
technology that uses an EcoDisc that eliminates the use of a machine room and further incur
significant energy cost savings for the building management. It is an upgraded version for geared
traction elevators. There is more construction freedom and construction costs could be saved using
Monospace too. The technology of Monospace then could be used for buildings of 12 floors or less.
Hence KONE marketing team targets the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The space saved could be used for other revenue generating activities which will further please clients.
Without building an extra machine room also saves some construction costs. Construction players are
normally tight on budget, the savings gives them flexibility to adjust their profits. In addition,
changing to Monospace requires minimal changes of their original architectural designs. 2. Energy
efficiency As mentioned in the case, the construction boom has ended and there are at most 26% of
existing buildings have a chance of upgrading to Monospace. This point would be important to
existing building managements as their monthly cost could be reduced substantially if they upgrade to
Monospace elevators. Monospace consumes a third of energy a hydraulic elevator consumes and half
of what a geared traction elevator consumes. Its speed is also at 1 mtr/s similar to a geared traction
elevator. These monthly savings can be seen on the bills and they add up to a substantial amount
annually. For construction managers and architects, this value could be used to impress clients. 3.
Lower fire potential Monospace elevators unlike hydraulic and geared traction elevators, do not
require oil for operation. It reduces fire potential which is a great problem for residential areas. It is
also one strong point of difference that KONE possess against competitors.

The Progression Of Truths Within A Taxonomy
An Essay on the Progression of Truths in a Taxonomy To begin understanding whether or not science
progresses towards greater truths, truth must first be defined. It is the quality or state of conforming to
fact or reality.1 As such a greater truth is one which better conforms to reality. Through scientific
revolutions science progresses towards a taxonomy of greater truths. To accept this one must first
understand that truths exist in science, that there are greater truths which replace falsified truths, and
that science is continually building its way towards those greater truths through revolutions. For the
purpose of this essay a scientific revolution is as Kuhn describes the shift from one accepted paradigm
to a new one where a paradigm is considered a distinct set of concepts and theories. Science seeks to
discover and explain the objective realities of our world and universe through these concepts and
theories. Throughout history theories have been proposed, accepted, and replaced. This is the one
constant of science in the long run; that it is always improving upon itself; our bank of knowledge is
increasing. While there are periods of regression, today the world is definitively more scientifically
advanced then it was a millennia ago. But why is it that we consider todays accepted paradigms to be
true and the paradigms from antiquity false? The more we believe in a paradigms propositions and
depend on them for performing tasks in reality, the truer they become

Persuasive Essay About Study Abroad
Why do people leave their home countries in order to live in a foreign country? Why do they move
abroad? Some people believe that getting up and moving to a different is not hard, but it is not as easy
as it sounds. People do so for various reasons: to escape as a refugee if there are certain circumstances
and issues like a revolution or war are going in a country or immigrate to change their life forever.
In my case, I decided to move to a foreign country as an exchange student, surviving a long forty two
hour flight from my home country, Tajikistan, to the USA. Actually, it was not my own idea to study
abroad. My parents decided that it would be a great idea for me to spend my junior and senior year in
the United States as an exchange student. They have always wanted the best for me. I remember the
day; My family and friends were celebrating my thirteenth birthday party. During the party, my dad
was discussing the idea of sending me abroad with his friends. First of all, I thought he was joking
then but now, four years later, I realized that it actually happened and I am here, in Lincoln, Nebraska,
about to spend my second Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays in another country, thousands miles
away from home.
For me, getting used to a new life was difficult for the first two months. I had problems with a time
distribution because the time in my home country is ten hours ahead of time in Nebraska. I could not
sleep and eat, and became depressed.

Mental Crowd Simulators
Phase 5: Time now to practice your speech... You are now heading to the end of your preparation
process. This is where you will test your memory and also learn how to be relaxed the whole time.
Three (3) techniques are ideal for practicing your speech and memorizing it very effectively. The first
one is called the mental crowd simulator. To explain what it is in a few lines, we can say that it can be
compared to daydreaming. You know, just like when you daydream while your favorite song is
playing and at the same time, you are imagining yourself singing that song in front of a huge crowd?
Well, this technique works the same way, where you have already memorized your speech, and you
imagine yourself giving that speech to a large audience.
You can daydream anywhere and at any time (with closed or opened eyes), so that s a plus to the
technique. This is how you should basically proceed here; you will have to maintain your eyes, in one
direction facing the wall, a table ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Here, you are learning to give your speech by moving your eyes around slowly, as if you were trying
to draw an arch (with your eyes), around the crowd. When you re done drawing and arch with your
eyes (from left to right), you can move to your documents (containing your speech) at the center of the
stage (while still giving your speech) as if you were trying to know what comes next (but you are not,
you are just trying to move around the stage).
After you are done with your presentation, have your friends give you a marking (a grade) for your
practice overall. In other words, have them tell you and grade you

Wireless communication helps businesses more easily stay in touch with customers, suppliers, and
employees and provides more flexible arrangements for organizing work. Wireless technology has
also created new products, services, and sales channels. If one requires mobile communication and
computing power or remote access to corporate systems, you can work with an array of wireless
devices: cell phones, personal digital assistants (PDAs), and smart phones. Personal computers are
also starting to be used in wireless transmission. Mobile laptop computers equipped with wireless
network interface cards link to the wired LAN by communicating with the access point. The access
point uses radio waves to transmit network signals from the wired network to the client adapters,
which convert them into data that the mobile device can understand. The client adapter then transmits
the data from the mobile device back to the access point, which forwards the data to the wired
network. In order to get the Dirt Bikes Company up and running smoothly I would recommend that
they install a data base system. With a data base system they will be able to input all the companies
information and distribute the needed information throughout the company faster and more accurately.
All the different departments throughout the company can also add input or print

Conformity In Our Society
Conformity has been a point of contention for many years in our society. Conformity is an essential
elements that help to maintain standard of ethics. Nauture of the job and professionalism aspect are the
vital to consider wheather conformity is appropriate for the people to explore their creativity.
There are myriad of point of my support in favor of conformity. The most conspicuous one is that in
order to be a social, one has to maintain the conformity. This practice leads people to explore their
knowledge in acceptable manners, therefore, society will be hampered and remain peaceful at all
times. India, for example, people are utlizing their vast knowledge with in certain area that leads them

The World s Economy And Lowering Its Credit Rating
Winston Churchill called for the concept of a kind of United States of Europe , and with an ever closer
European Union both with tenacious economic and political ties, his call is materialising by the day.
Though favoured by Churchill, the high European migrant levels and the erosion of Britain s
sovereignty has led to the questioning of the so called European super state . Britain voting out on the
23rd. June would result in Brexit and subsequently an end to free trade with its European counterparts.
This would release her from the shackles of tariffs and quotas that are present for non EU trade,

trade deals with other non EU nations such as the US. However this prospect of a Britain America
trade deal has been dampened by Obama s comments, suggesting that America is busy negotiating
deals with EU and that Britain will have to wait possibly another ten years. Obama further comments
on how EU magnifies Britain s global influence and that Brexit would hamper this. Penny Mordaunt
from The Telegraph has dismissed his comments as woeful ignorance saying his belief ...that

itself. Mordaunt continues to argue how Obama confuses collective action through NATO with the
integration at all costs ideology that motivates the EU too explaining that the EU has nothing to do
with Britain s international influence, NATO does. Obama s argument is weak whilst discussing trade
deals as he has reached his final year of his presidency and cannot dictate on future deals especially
with republican candidates Cruz stating an American British deal would occur immediately not back
of the queue as Obama has suggested. However his stance on weakening of Britain s influence is a

would get more fresh meat if they killed the person instead of waiting for suicide. At this moment,
they had waited for fifteen days. All of them already ran out of energy and reached the limited that
human could reach. Even though they waited for another day, their body would not change a lot. The

the person who die first and the rest of them would survive in stead of murdering someone. They
would just be immoral instead of committing murder. Base on those, I think the suspect as guilty as
charge.Their action toward Roger Whetmore were not justified.

Okonkwo Character Analysis
Most people think that being just a normal human being is good enough, but in Okonkwo s case he
wants to gain power and create a name for himself. Okonkwo has many different emotions and
different ways to express them. Violence is a main action and emotion he uses to gain power and take
control over others. Throughout the novel he is portrayed as a strong but impulsive character and
shows hardship all the way till the very end. This protagonist relays himself as a multi emotional
character. His actions are portrayed as loving and caring, but can be turned around in seconds to be a
harmful and abusive father. His acts of violence include beating his wife, using his family, and having
his dad teach him the ways of life to gain and accomplish his full potential at others expenses. As the
novel begins traditions and customs are taught by Okonkwo s dad Unoka. He has to teach his sons to
follow the traditions and customs to become a powerful leader and gain power that is needed for the
real world. Having a fear of becoming powerless sets the tone for Okonkwo who wants to strive his
hardest even when worst comes to worst. The father of three shows violence as he gets taught new
traditions and has sudden emotional outbursts. Many traditions and customs were based upon social
classes in this tribe, but for Okonkwo they were based upon his own goals and achievements. He

The Controversy Over Gay Parent Adoption
Gay Parent Adoptions
Many states laws deny children in foster care, healthy, loving homes simply because of a potential
parent s sexual orientation (Gray, 2006), The catholic church as well as other organization s oppose
gay adoption based upon religious teachings, while others debate the legality of it (Gray, 2006). In
today s society, many children grow up to be emotionally stable and successful whether they have a
heterosexual couple as parents or a same sex couple as parents. Gay parent adoptions are an equal
right, as they are becoming more mainstream and are as equally stable as heterosexual adoptions.
Adoption Process
Problems of neglect and abuse begin in the biological home when the biological parents are using
drugs or alcohol. Children s Services are called in to remove the children from the home and are
placed into foster care. It is then that the biological parents of the children have two years to complete
counseling or a treatment program to regain the custody of their children from the State. If, after these
two years the biological parent has not been successful in their program, the State maintains custody
of the children and the children are then legally up for adoption. All prospective adoptive parents must
complete a home study (parenting classes) to verify their competency. Once completed, the parents
search for their adoptive child.
Local and state governments play an important role in gay parent adoptions. Two states, Mississippi
and Utah,

Barbados Slave Code Of Dominos Essay
The fear of rebellion is what gave the colonies the idea to pass a chain of laws that restricted many of
the slave s rights. Each colony had a diverge set of ideas about the rights of the slaves. There were
some similar aspects in the slave codes across the land where slavery was the most frequent. Slaves
were legally considered property, which did not give them the option to own land. If there was no
presence of a white person, slaves were not allowed to congregate. Any slave that lived off the
plantation had to follow the special curfew or there would be severe consequences. In the chance that
a slave was in court being accused of any criminal act towards a white person, the slave would have
no chance to testify. Slaves were always absent in the jury. Slave codes had many destructive effects
on the lives of African Americans. It was illegal to teach a slave how to read and write. Many white
Christians tried to educate slaves on how to read the Bible; however, those same people did not
approve of marriage between the slaves. This way it made it easier to sell a member of the family to
another owner without causing strife between the owner and slaves. These laws set the foundation for
a law called the Barbados Slave code of 1661.
The Barbados Slave Code of 1661 was a law passed by the colonial English legislature to provide
legal basis for slavery in the Caribbean Island of Barbados. The codes preamble, which stated that the
law s purpose was to protect slaves as we do

The Effects Of Arsenic On Drinking Water Essay
Analysis of Arsenic in Drinking Water
Analysis: Trends
Arsenic is well known for its dangerous toxic features it brings to humans and the environment. But, it
was not until the late 1980 s did scientists and public health officials realized that even at low doses of
ingestion, arsenic is very dangerous and can cause serious health effects (Bolt, 2013). Till this day
arsenic continues to be a huge public health issue, not only in parts of the United States but in
developing countries worldwide (Bolt, 2013). The main trend that researchers have been focusing on
is the amount of arsenic that is contaminating drinking water. Arsenic has been known to be a health
issue in water for many years, but it was not until the 1980 s and later that the government and
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) started to really crack down on monitoring it (Agency for
Toxic Substances and Disease Registry [ATSDR] , 2010). Before 2001 the legal amount of arsenic that
was allowed in drinking water was 50 parts per billion (ppb), but since then public health officials and
the government realized that this amount of arsenic in the water was making people sick (ATSDR,
2010). So on January 22, 2001, the EPA adopted a new standard of 10 ppb of arsenic is drinking water
(ATSDR, 2010). This level has been tested to be the safest allowable amount of arsenic in drinking
water to be ingested by humans. To this day parts of the world and about 2% of the United States are

Music festivals throughout the years have become one the fastest growing phenomenons known to the
young and old. All over the world millions of people gather in one place to enjoy various artists, foods

extremely popular festivals are putting on our planet. The most notable ideas concerning waste, traffic

to be the most catastrophic problem regarding the environment at these festivals. The main problem is
too much trash and not enough places to store it or simply just the laziness of festival goers not

Population Overpopulation
The Earth is currently 4.54 billion years old, holding about 332,500,000 cubic miles of water, an
estimate of 8.7 billion mammals, and close to 7 billion humans. The modern humans, evolved from
archaic humans, have been roaming the Earth for about 17,000 years. Over the last fifty years, human
population grew faster than it has ever before. In the 1960s, the world population was at about 3
billion people, increasing to an estimate of 6 billion people by 1999. The expected growth of world
population from 6 billion people in 1999 is about 9 billion people by 2044, causing the world to
become overpopulated. The word population causes many different reactions and thoughts. For
example, it stimulates anger because of irresponsible procreation, insufficient funding for birth control
methods, and religion for being against contraception and abortion. The reason that anger is one of the
main reactions is that many are aware of how population growth can damage the Earth and affect the
future. To reduce the population growth rates, there should be a worldwide, two child policy for every
couple during the process of establishing basic education because research has shown the positive
effects of China s one child policy, how Earth s resources are decreasing, and how overpopulation has
negatively affected the environment. By establishing a two child policy for every couple, there could
be many positive results, such as the results that came from China s one child policy. According

popularize the product instead of using a traditional approach by launching their product and waiting
to integrate it into mainstream media. Red Bull thrusted itself into communicating with its customers
and fan base by launching events, working closely with event coordinators, and strategic product
placement. Red Bull also holds much strength by associating the product and brand with athletics and
extreme sports. Targeting a younger generation and portraying the idea of a fuller and freer life has
proven to truly engage the popular culture and counter culture alike. It is stated in the case study that
Red Bull holds a seventy percent market share in over one hundred countries statistics like that show
the company s true strength especially compared to competitors like Monster and Rockstar.

Air Jordan Vs Converse Essay
Footwear also known as shoes was invented to protect a person s foot while doing various activities,
primarily created for functional and practical use. However, shoe design has constantly evolved
throughout history and from culture to culture. The notion of complementing your outfit with the
perfect shoe has been the impetus of design and many styles of shoes; such as high heels, flats and
sneakers. Modern footwear varies widely in design, comfortability and cost. Nike is a multinational
company that offers many types of footwear and has been a leading pioneer in the retail market for
decades. Air Jordan s and Converse are notably Nike s most proverbial brands. These two brands are a
quintessential example of a price difference within the same corporation. ... Show more content on

The demand for different designs and styles, eventually changed the cost and the history of these
ordinary sneakers. Air Jordan s , notably the most famous sneaker ever made, is designed and owned
by Michael Jordan. Footwear sales sky rocketed in 1984, when Michael Jordan signed a contract to
wear the now famous Air Jordan. Air Jordan is manufactured in China and allegedly costs Nike a little
over $16 to make a pair. Yet, Air Jordan s are priced at anywhere between $100 to $600 a pair,
depending on the style and color.
The pricing strategy for this brand is value based. The selling price is determined not by the cost of the
goods, but by the status that buyers think they are valued. Consumers measure the quality of Air
Jordan s by the quality of Michael Jordan s skillful tactics on the basketball courts and are willing to
pay a pretty penny to be like Mike, hence their well known motto I want to be, I want to be like Mike.
Statically, the value based price strategy is effective for this brand because Air Jordan continues to be
Nike s best selling shoes, even after Michael Jordan s

George Pullman s Influence On Social Darwinism
Social Darwinism is a term to describe the idea that humans compete for existence just like the rest of
the animal kingdom. Darwin used this term to attempt to rationalize racism, capitalism, and
imperialism. It simplifies the human s desire for power. Now it is widely discredited and scrutinized
because its a rejection of compassion and social responsibility. (1)
These tycoons of business figured out how to use social darwinism to their benefit. They were ruthless
in the business world but were credited for creating big business and a booming economy in the US.
The so called robber barons were nothing but businessmen who knew what they were doing and used
it to their advantage.
George Pullman was an American industrialist and inventor. His father moved buildings out of the
way of the Erie Canal. George took over the business in 1853. Later he won a contract with the state
of New York to move 20 buildings out of the way. After this he came up with the idea to manufacture
and lease railroad cars on the growing railroad industry. After being unsatisfied with sleepers and
passenger cars, he created the Pullman Sleeper. These cars were immediately successful ... Show more

Rockefeller was an American business tycoon. His early life made an impact on him with his father s
odd habits and parenting. His father was a traveling salesman who regularly cheated on his wife; even
cheating on her when he was home. His father regularly cheated his children by lying to them. He
made the excuse that it would make them strong. John did not let this affect him. He got a job at an
early age and used this experience and knowledge to become a business partner. By the end of the year
the company had made half a million dollars. He used this money to open an oil refinery. He and a
few others created the Standard Oil Company, in 1870. Within two years they had owned a majority of

Amazing Grace And Twilight Analysis
Segregation is one of the many themes that connect Amazing Grace and Twilight. Segregation is the
most prominent problem discussed in both pieces. It is also shown in a variety of ways, through
economic class, race, and by making physical and mental being examples. People in power choosing
to ignore a problem that has arisen in its people.
From what I ve read, people are not even attempting to hide their judgement, they make it clear that
they see people of color and who live in poverty as a problem. One they do not want to deal with. The
lucky majority segregate themselves from minorities without caring about the affect it will have. The
apparent consensus of the powerful is that the ghetto is to be preserved as a perpetual catch basin for

But it isn t only language because no one talks that way to a rich lady who does not speak English. Go
downtown. You ll see what I mean. Sometimes these women come from Italy or Argentina or from
Spain. They go in the stores in their beautiful clothes. They re treated like celebrities. It isn t the
language. It s skin color and being poor. This is something more than disrespect. It s as if they wish
that you did not exist so they would not have to be bothered. (page 46 Amazing Grace) A young girl is
explaining how she and her family is viewed in the eyes of people who work in upper class shops. She
can hear the annoyance in their voices, and how they wished her people would go back to where they
came from. But if there is a woman with money, who is from a richer area like Europe, then workers
wait on their every need. It is showing that they have no patience for those who look a certain way
because social segregation has gotten so bad, especially in New York. Segregation is forced down
these people s throats, everywhere they go people are harassing them or darting dirty looks for being
in certain neighborhoods or shops. People are not even attempting to hide their judgement, they make
it clear that they see these people as a problem and one they do not want to deal with. They segregate

Women s Impact On Women
However, after 15 years, male lawyers were shown to earn 55 percent more than their female
counterparts. The study concluded that this massive pay discrepancy is due to women taking extensive
time off due to caring for children. Ultimately, what this study shows is that men who have children do
not earn any less because of it. Yet women who have children, who work in the same fields as these
men, do suffer. Research done in countries with paid maternity leave, and American companies who
offer paid leave, show that when women have access to paid maternity leave, a year later they work
more with higher earnings. Women who would like to work but do not have access to leave or
affordable childcare are tasked with an undue burden that prevents them from earning as much as their
male career equivalents. In the end, both genders are parents, but it is the consequences that women
face from motherhood that makes paid family benefits a gendered issue.
Due to these consequences pushed upon women for being biologically tasked with carrying children,
paid leave for mothers to create equal opportunity for both genders. This is especially for low income
women, as paid leave assures they are able to survive financially while having a child, as motherhood
is not a reason a woman should have to take on excess credit card debt. Additionally, paid leave is
important to all women, as careers should not be stopped in their tracks involuntarily due to
motherhood. Yet paid leave, which

Media s Impact On Society And The Individual
Despite there being numerous sources and names for media and information, large conglomerate
companies have emerged over the last several decades that own a majority of media outlets in the
United States and throughout the world. These conglomerates operate in an assortment of business
opportunities. The big six as they are commonly referred, own up to 90% of the American media
market share (Lutz), and that number is growing. The big six companies include G.E., News
Corporation, Disney, Viacom, Time Warner, and CBS. To demonstrate this growth of consolidation,
that same 90% of the American media was owned by fifty independent companies in 1983 (Lutz).
These figures are outstanding, as they relate and intersect with Stuart Hall s idea of ... Show more

For example, the conglomerate Comcast corporation is a cable television provider, internet service
provider, phone service provider, the owner of various broadcast stations like NBC and the Spanish
network Telemundo, the owner of film networks like Universal pictures, and the owner of internet
sites like Hulu and Fandango. Comcast even owns the Universal Studios theme parks and a
professional hockey team, the Philadelphia Flyers. This is just a short list of the various businesses
and services that a conglomerate, like Comcast, may own. As of 2017, Comcast reported a whopping
$146 billion dollar market cap (Selyukh). By further understanding these motives, one is able to
realize the role that media plays in their daily lives and the influence that they may have that extends
outside the television broadcast.
The power that these conglomerates hold may cause given information and facts to be distorted,
possibly in order to better benefit themselves and their own corporate interests. This information
highlights Hall s ideal of how knowledge and power intersect. Hall brings up the idea of how there is
this Gap of representation, a figurative gap between the actual facts and how the media represent it
(Hall). This gap between representation and the true facts must be measured by the individual, when
he or she may think something is reported inaccurately or in a biased mannered. In order to understand
this gap that may be presented by

How Does Aristotle Explain Eudaimonia
What constitutes a good life ? Aristotle sought the answer to this question. Two books, Nicomachean
ethics and Eudemuan ethics, were dedicated to discovering what a good life is. He reached the
conclusion that when someone acts, they are always striving towards some final goal. So how did
Aristotle explain eudaimonia or perfect happiness? Eudaimonia is the ultimate good we strive
towards, that requires no further questioning. What he means by no further questioning is this.
Something that is the final good you want to acquire from your work. Aristotle looked over several
possible answers before coming to his conclusion. First there is honor. But, we see that honor is just
another tool to reach ultimate fulfillment. Likewise, pleasure

Restaurant management can examine the food in the kitchen, but customer satisfaction depends to a
considerable extent on the way it is served. The quality of education is so difficult to measure that few
educational organizations have a formal quality control system. 3. Labor Intensive Manufacturing
companies add equipment and automate production lines, thereby replacing labor and reducing costs.
Most service companies are labor intensive and cannot do this. Hospitals do add expensive equipment,
but mostly to provide better treatment, and this increases costs. A law firm expands by adding partners
and new support personnel. 4. Multi Unit Organizations Some service organizations operate many
units in various locations, each unit relatively small. These organizations are fast food restaurant
chains, auto rental companies, gasoline service stations, and many others. Some of the units are
owned; others operate under a franchise. The similarity of the separate units provides a common basis
for analyzing budgets and evaluating performance not available to the manufacturing company. The
information for each unit can be compared with system wide or regional averages, and high
performers and low performers can be identified. However, because units differ in the Mix of services

  • 3. The Scientific Revolutions and Copernicus Book Essay The Scientific Revolutions and Copernicus Book In the sixteenth and seventeenth century a Scientific Revolution swept over Europe. The start of this Scientific Revolution has been atributed to Nicolaus Copernicus and his Heliocentric Model of the Universe. Copernicus was born in Torun Poland on February 19, 1473. His parents both died when he was very young so he was sent to live with his uncle who was a high ranking official in the Church. Copernicus studied canon law, medicine, astronomy, Greek, philosophy, and mathematics. His diversified fields of study led him to hold the positions of physician, teacher, member of parliament, and canon law expert for the Church. At the age of twenty Copernicus left Poland for Italy for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Church felt that the earth as the center of the universe showed the special place that man had in the eyes of God. The Church believed that this model was divine and therefore any criticism on the Ptolmaic model coud be viewed as direct criticism on God. As a result of the Church s strong view many scientists were scared from disagreeing with it for fear of being labled as a heretic and possibly being excommunicated. Copernicus feared the Church so much that he left Italy and returned to Poland so that he could continue his work without fear of persecution. No one seriously dismissed the Ptolemaic theory of the universe until 1616 when Galileo began to teach the Heliocentric Model of the Universe. Galileo proved Copernicus s theory to his students by showing them the planets through the use of telescopes. The Ptolemaic Model of the Universe stated that the Earth was at the center of the universe, the planets, stars rotated around the Earth in a perfect uniform circular motion, and that all of the objects in the Heavens were made of perfect material that could not change. Nicolaus Copernicus was not the first person to develop the theory of a sun centered universe. Aristarchus of Samos was the first to propse the theory of a Heliocentric Universe in 200 B.C.. This theory is very similar to the Ptolemic model of the universe. The major difference is that the sun not the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Analysis Of Joseph J. Ellis s The Long Run Intro: Joseph J. Ellis starts out by stating in his preface that the American Revolution was both necessary and inevitable. The Revolution has been described as something that was already preordained, that, with the direction things had been headed in, the Revolution was bound to occur. With the size and power of the British army and navy, the rebellious disrupters in America should have been knocked down almost immediately, by logic s rules. Adjacent to this lies Ellis statement that, in the long run, the evolution of an independent American nation, gradually developing its political and economic strength over the nineteenth century...was probably inevitable (5). While the inevitability of America s evolution was to happen under British constraints, Ellis argument is that this was not the way history happened. His thesis argues that America s success was not a result that could be clearly predicted, that the advancement of America as its own entity was not like how it is seen as today. Ellis then splits off into talking about how we need to be both farsighted and nearsighted in order to truly see America s growth for what it is and has been. On the farsighted side, Ellis talks about how the isolation of North America and its large reserves of natural resources would have given America much potential to develop on its own. According to Ellis, if America could survive together for the first few stages of its development and then push through the British desire for control, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When launched, sales of KONE s Monospace was the highest in Netherlands, then France and in UK none was sold in the first 3 months. Monospace is an elevator invented by KONE using the latest technology that uses an EcoDisc that eliminates the use of a machine room and further incur significant energy cost savings for the building management. The space saved could be used for other revenue generating activities which will further please clients. Without building an extra machine room also saves some construction costs. Construction players are normally tight on budget, the savings gives them flexibility to adjust their profits. In addition, changing to Monospace requires minimal changes of their original architectural designs. 2. Energy efficiency As mentioned in the case, the construction boom has ended and there are at most 26% of existing buildings have a chance of upgrading to Monospace. This point would be important to existing building managements as their monthly cost could be reduced substantially if they upgrade to Monospace elevators. Monospace consumes a third of energy a hydraulic elevator consumes and half of what a geared traction elevator consumes. Its speed is also at 1 mtr/s similar to a geared traction elevator. These monthly savings can be seen on the bills and they add up to a substantial amount annually. For construction managers and architects, this value could be used to impress clients. 3. Lower fire potential Monospace elevators unlike hydraulic and geared traction elevators, do not require oil for operation. It reduces fire potential which is a great problem for residential areas. It is also one strong point of difference that KONE possess against competitors. KONE: MONOSPACE LAUNCH IN GERMANY From KONE s financial perspective, what are the 3 most important ... • 6. The Progression Of Truths Within A Taxonomy An Essay on the Progression of Truths in a Taxonomy To begin understanding whether or not science progresses towards greater truths, truth must first be defined. It is the quality or state of conforming to fact or reality.1 As such a greater truth is one which better conforms to reality. Through scientific revolutions science progresses towards a taxonomy of greater truths. To accept this one must first understand that truths exist in science, that there are greater truths which replace falsified truths, and that science is continually building its way towards those greater truths through revolutions. For the purpose of this essay a scientific revolution is as Kuhn describes the shift from one accepted paradigm to a new one where a paradigm is considered a distinct set of concepts and theories. Science seeks to discover and explain the objective realities of our world and universe through these concepts and theories. Throughout history theories have been proposed, accepted, and replaced. This is the one constant of science in the long run; that it is always improving upon itself; our bank of knowledge is increasing. While there are periods of regression, today the world is definitively more scientifically advanced then it was a millennia ago. But why is it that we consider todays accepted paradigms to be true and the paradigms from antiquity false? The more we believe in a paradigms propositions and depend on them for performing tasks in reality, the truer they become ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some people believe that getting up and moving to a different is not hard, but it is not as easy as it sounds. People do so for various reasons: to escape as a refugee if there are certain circumstances and issues like a revolution or war are going in a country or immigrate to change their life forever. In my case, I decided to move to a foreign country as an exchange student, surviving a long forty two hour flight from my home country, Tajikistan, to the USA. Actually, it was not my own idea to study abroad. My parents decided that it would be a great idea for me to spend my junior and senior year in the United States as an exchange student. They have always wanted the best for me. I remember the day; My family and friends were celebrating my thirteenth birthday party. During the party, my dad was discussing the idea of sending me abroad with his friends. First of all, I thought he was joking then but now, four years later, I realized that it actually happened and I am here, in Lincoln, Nebraska, about to spend my second Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays in another country, thousands miles away from home. For me, getting used to a new life was difficult for the first two months. I had problems with a time distribution because the time in my home country is ten hours ahead of time in Nebraska. This is where you will test your memory and also learn how to be relaxed the whole time. Three (3) techniques are ideal for practicing your speech and memorizing it very effectively. The first one is called the mental crowd simulator. To explain what it is in a few lines, we can say that it can be compared to daydreaming. You know, just like when you daydream while your favorite song is playing and at the same time, you are imagining yourself singing that song in front of a huge crowd? Well, this technique works the same way, where you have already memorized your speech, and you imagine yourself giving that speech to a large audience. You can daydream anywhere and at any time (with closed or opened eyes), so that s a plus to the technique. In today s society, many children grow up to be emotionally stable and successful whether they have a heterosexual couple as parents or a same sex couple as parents. Gay parent adoptions are an equal right, as they are becoming more mainstream and are as equally stable as heterosexual adoptions. Adoption Process Problems of neglect and abuse begin in the biological home when the biological parents are using drugs or alcohol. It is then that the biological parents of the children have two years to complete counseling or a treatment program to regain the custody of their children from the State. • 16. Barbados Slave Code Of Dominos Essay The fear of rebellion is what gave the colonies the idea to pass a chain of laws that restricted many of the slave s rights. Each colony had a diverge set of ideas about the rights of the slaves. There were some similar aspects in the slave codes across the land where slavery was the most frequent. Slaves were legally considered property, which did not give them the option to own land. If there was no presence of a white person, slaves were not allowed to congregate. Any slave that lived off the plantation had to follow the special curfew or there would be severe consequences. In the chance that a slave was in court being accused of any criminal act towards a white person, the slave would have no chance to testify. Slaves were always absent in the jury. Slave codes had many destructive effects on the lives of African Americans. It was illegal to teach a slave how to read and write. Many white Christians tried to educate slaves on how to read the Bible; however, those same people did not approve of marriage between the slaves. This way it made it easier to sell a member of the family to another owner without causing strife between the owner and slaves. These laws set the foundation for a law called the Barbados Slave code of 1661. The Barbados Slave Code of 1661 was a law passed by the colonial English legislature to provide legal basis for slavery in the Caribbean Island of Barbados. But, it was not until the late 1980 s did scientists and public health officials realized that even at low doses of ingestion, arsenic is very dangerous and can cause serious health effects (Bolt, 2013). Till this day arsenic continues to be a huge public health issue, not only in parts of the United States but in developing countries worldwide (Bolt, 2013). The main trend that researchers have been focusing on is the amount of arsenic that is contaminating drinking water. Arsenic has been known to be a health issue in water for many years, but it was not until the 1980 s and later that the government and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) started to really crack down on monitoring it (Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry [ATSDR] , 2010). Before 2001 the legal amount of arsenic that was allowed in drinking water was 50 parts per billion (ppb), but since then public health officials and the government realized that this amount of arsenic in the water was making people sick (ATSDR, 2010). So on January 22, 2001, the EPA adopted a new standard of 10 ppb of arsenic is drinking water (ATSDR, 2010). This level has been tested to be the safest allowable amount of arsenic in drinking water to be ingested by humans. • 21. Population Overpopulation The Earth is currently 4.54 billion years old, holding about 332,500,000 cubic miles of water, an estimate of 8.7 billion mammals, and close to 7 billion humans. The modern humans, evolved from archaic humans, have been roaming the Earth for about 17,000 years. Over the last fifty years, human population grew faster than it has ever before. In the 1960s, the world population was at about 3 billion people, increasing to an estimate of 6 billion people by 1999. The expected growth of world population from 6 billion people in 1999 is about 9 billion people by 2044, causing the world to become overpopulated. The word population causes many different reactions and thoughts. For example, it stimulates anger because of irresponsible procreation, insufficient funding for birth control methods, and religion for being against contraception and abortion. The reason that anger is one of the main reactions is that many are aware of how population growth can damage the Earth and affect the future. To reduce the population growth rates, there should be a worldwide, two child policy for every couple during the process of establishing basic education because research has shown the positive effects of China s one child policy, how Earth s resources are decreasing, and how overpopulation has negatively affected the environment. By establishing a two child policy for every couple, there could be many positive results, such as the results that came from China s one child policy. According ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 27. Women s Impact On Women However, after 15 years, male lawyers were shown to earn 55 percent more than their female counterparts. The study concluded that this massive pay discrepancy is due to women taking extensive time off due to caring for children. Ultimately, what this study shows is that men who have children do not earn any less because of it. Yet women who have children, who work in the same fields as these men, do suffer. Research done in countries with paid maternity leave, and American companies who offer paid leave, show that when women have access to paid maternity leave, a year later they work more with higher earnings. Women who would like to work but do not have access to leave or affordable childcare are tasked with an undue burden that prevents them from earning as much as their male career equivalents.
