Essay on Womens Roles in Society
Women s roles have changed so much within the last couple of centuries. In the older years, women
were the sole responsibility of taking care of the children, doing housework, and pretty much taking
care of their husbands. The Story of an Hour, by Kate Chopin, A Doll s House, Henrik Ibsen, and The
Yellow Wallpaper, by Charlotte Gilman are all literature pieces talking about the roles women have in
society. In The story of an Hour, the main character is not happy in her marriage, and she finds out that
her husband got killed, and she felt very free. In A Doll s House, the main character is not happy with
her marriage, because she feels that she is being treated like a childish, playful doll, and does not get

Mallard having heart trouble, and how they had to be very careful telling her the news of her husband
s death. After her sister told her about her husband getting killed in a railroad accident, Mrs. Mallard
ran off into her room, with no one following her. She sat in a chair staring outside through the open
window. She started seeing everything outside come to life, and all of a sudden she felt something
come across her. She told herself that she was free. She was happy to be able to live on her own and
only be responsible for herself. Josephine was outside her door telling Mrs. Mallard to come out,
because Josephine thought she was making herself ill. Mrs. Mallard came out of the room with her
arms opened wide and put her hands around her sister s waist. They both started going to the stairs,
and Richards was waiting for them at the bottom. All of a sudden, someone was opening the door, and
their stood Brently Mallard, who did not even know about the accident or there had even been one.
Mrs. Mallard saw her husband, and the doctors said she died of a heart disease (cited in DiYanni,
2007).
The conflict in the story is that Mrs. Mallard is way too happy about her husband dying. After going
into the room and closing the door, she started looking outside and could see the tops of trees that
were all aquiver with the new spring life (DiYanni 2007, p. 39). She is finally seeing the life to things

Sustainability And Its Impact On Society, Environment And...
Sustainable development is development that meet the needs of the present without comprising the
ability of future generations to meet their own needs. (World Bank,2001) All the choices and the
actions that we make today will cause effect in the future. Sustainability is closely related to corporate
social responsibility. It can effect the companies development and reputation. As a result, more and
more companies are pay attention to sustainability when they doing activities to developing the

In 2002, Gray already stated that the real danger we face today is that there is lots of talk about
something which nobody is doing, can do or wants to do in sustainability reporting. There is an awful
lot of talk and very little action. Don t believe what you read, and social and environmental
accountability will remain a nice idea until there is substantive legislation requiring it of all large
organizations. (Gray,2002) Many companies really do follow sustainable practices. However, some
make such claims without any facts to back them up. For example, Green washing. Greenwashing
Index defines as when a company or organization spends more time and money claiming to be green
through advertising and marketing than actually implementing business practices that minimize
environmental impact. It s whitewashing, but with a green brush. (Burg,2013) These companies
actually make limited contribution to developing sustainability. Such as Coca Cola, according to the
consumer report, they think Coca Cola accusing Coca Cola of green washing , because their new Plant

positive effect in regards to reducing CO2 emissions. (Zara,2013) Except Gray, some other professors

Operant condition Essay
Several years ago, I was the marketing Manager for a new line of perfume, which had to be promoted,
introduced to the consumer, and allow for succession in the market. By marketing the product the
sales would either be high or low depending on the market responses. One way to ensure successfully
marketing to the right consumers is through the use of Operant Conditioning.
Operant Conditioning, also known as Instrumental learning is defined as a learning process by which
the consequences of an operant response affects the likelihood that the response will occur in the
future (Kozak, pg 22). Basically, Operant Conditioning is a stimulus response pattern that when
reinforced will condition the individual response to a desired behavior. Our ... Show more content on

When you purchase the specific product you are being reinforced to make the actual purchase because
of the reward of receiving money back. There are two types of reinforcements, positive and negative.
Positive reinforcers bring pleasant consequence abrupt by adding something pleasant to the
environment of the individual. This increases the probability that the response will occur again (Darcy,
pg 224). For example to increase customer response you may want to send a trail sample or coupon to
entice the customer to the store so as to make a purchase. On the other hand negative reinforcement is
the removal of negative stimuli from the individual surrounding environment. Negative reinforcement
is a way to get rid of undesirable behaviors. Think about when you are listening to a radio and you are
trying to hear the advertisement that is coming in all fuzzy. Well, if you adjust the setting on the radio
to eliminate the static, you will be able to hear the advertisement and possibly want to proceed on to
buy the product. In this case, you are removing the unpleasant behavior such as the static from the
immediate situation to bring about the pleasantness of the advertisement. These two aspects of
reinforcement both strengthen the individual s behavior by adding or subtracting necessary praise or
barriers.

Social Movement And The Industrial Revolution
There have been several social movements in history that have impacted the world. Groups of people
have come together and tried their hardest to make a difference in unresolved problems and issues. It
is hard to make a difference as an individual trying to change something big, it becomes easier when
you find people who have the same beliefs as you and will fight for it along your side. This is social
change, and normally comes about through collective behavior and social movements. Social change
is a significant change in behaviors and cultural values and norms. For example significant changes
that have occurred in the past are the abolition of slavery, the changes put into action after 9/11, the
feminist movement, and the industrial revolution. As I mentioned early social change occurs through
both collective behavior and social movements. Collective behavior is a voluntary activity that many
people take part in to change norms and values of the people around them. Collective behavior can be
seen in many different ways. For example, there can be crowds, masses, panics, mobs, riots, fads,
public opinion and fashion. An example of this would be when Cooper Tire in Findlay Ohio went on
strike in order to get a new contract with better medical benefits. The workers walked off one morning
and stood outside of the factory. Social Movement is an organized group that works together to
promote or resist change through action. There are many different types of social

The Last Castle was packed full of leaders; bad, good, and great according to the numerous leadership

the court, which does not allow for everyone to participate. While chaos / a fight arose, other
prisoners, the guards, and the Colonel observed, until the Colonel finally gave the order to put a stop
to it. Although bean bags were shot rather than live ammunition, apparently the Colonel had given
orders to aim at the head periodically (calling it an accident), especially when prisoners (or animals, as
the Colonel called them often) were killed. This type of leadership is in line with Machiavelli s, pg. 4,
assumed view of human nature in the prison, that human beings are essentially evil... as the
prisoners/animals were evil. Also, I compared this accidental killing of prisoners in The Castle like the
beginning of Sun Tzu. Sun Tzu killed the King s two favorite concubines because they failed to follow
orders. Just like the Colonel gave orders a second time before commanding the marksman to shoot,
Sun Tzu gave the orders a second time before he killed the concubines. When the orders have been

A Family Tree In Amy Tan s Mother Tounge
Cultures are kind of like a family tree. You can be part of other cultures, but you will always have a
dominate culture. This relates to a family tree because you have your aunts and uncles, but they are
not your 100% main blood, they are what I would consider sub cultures. Your mother and father
would be conisderd your main culture, because they are the people who made you, not only that they
shaped your culture and beliefs. This is only a sample of what I am discussing, in English class we
read the story, Mother Tounge. In Mother Tounge I can proove to you that there is only one dominate
culture. In Mother Tounge Amy Tan s main culture is her family. One example is that Amy talks in a
semi broken form of English when she is with her family. An example of her doing this is when she is
talking about used furniture with her family, Amy says, We were talking about the price of new and
used furniture and I heard myself saying this; Not waste money that way. It is rather odd, considering
she is an author. She then goes on to speak about it by saying, It has become or language of intimacy,
a diffrent sort of English that relates to my familty talk, the language I grew up with. This is just
something part of her family s culture, that will most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Research Paper On Haiti Earthquake
Haiti Earthquake
Have you ever heard of an earthquake so big that hundreds of thousands of people lost their lives,
more than three hundred thousand people were injured, and 1.5 million people became homeless? If
not, let me introduce you to the Haiti Earthquake. This enormous earthquake destroyed many lives. It
was believed to have been caused by the shifting of tectonic plates in the Earth. But, is this the truth?
In 2010, an earthquake broke out in Haiti. The city was left in ruins, 1.5 million people lost their
homes, and hundreds of thousands of people were either killed or injured. Scientists claim that the
cause of this earthquake was because of slippage along the conservative plate boundary that runs
through Haiti. But, some conspiracy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But, conspiracy theorists think HAARP s purpose is far more sinister than meets the eye, says
Stephanie Pappas, reporter for NBC news. HAARP is believed to use their resources for weather
warfare, which also plays into the role of the thought of HAARP causing the earthquake in Haiti.
Some reasoning that causes this theory is as follows: Just a few hundred miles away from Haiti is a
HAARP array; The earthquake did not occur on a big fault line. This earthquake happened quite
farther south of the North American plate and Caribbean plate. It is rare that a quake is to occur here,
which makes room for conspiracies that HAARP caused it. These are just two of the many reasons
that stem from HAARP s involvement with the Haiti Earthquake.
So how did HAARP cause the earthquake? HAARP has heaters in the Ionosphere. From these heaters
comes ELF (Extremely Low Frequency) waves. These waves are powerful enough, at the right
frequency, to cause vibrations in the Earth, which can lead to an earthquake. One reason as to why
HAARP would want to cause an earthquake is because of the idea that Haiti is an unguarded,
unwanted, low protection country that could make a good place to test an earthquake. It also seems
odd that, since this earthquake was deep in Earth s surface, it only affected

Vertigo Mise En Scene Analysis
Symptoms of Vertigo: You Won t Feel Like Yourself Vertigo is an extremely complex movie in many
ways. It has an abundant amount of great elements to it that add a great deal of depth to the picture
such as its use of mise en scene, cinematography, and editing techniques. By combining all of these
elements together, they help to bring the films form and narrative together to show a reoccurring
theme of life versus death. The use of mise en scene elements contribute a great deal to the films
overall theme. In the particular scene for this analysis, an element that stands out a number of times is
lighting. There is an immense difference between the amount of light when Madeline and John are in
the forrest as opposed to when they are out near the shore line. The scene also uses the lack ... Show

In the shot where John and Madeline are behind the tree trying to discuss where she was born or who
she is (around two minutes fifty seconds), the camera zooms in on the two of them. As John keeps
pushing her to talk, she gets even more confused and frustrated. To emphasize this, the directors made
the camera zoom in so you can see every emotion on her face up close and personal. This connects
this scene to the ideology that you are always connected to your past, whether you know it or not.
Inside, she knows that she is Carlotta, but she can t establish the difference between herself and the
side of her that is Carlotta. In addition to zooming, the scene also includes deep focus. By using deep
focus throughout the entire scene, you get a better scene of space. By establishing this large space
within the shots, it creates a contrast within the film. Although there is so much space in the scenes,
Madeline still feels enclosed by her own mind. You can tell that once she gets out of the trees, she lets
go slightly. Without the use of cinematography, we would be looking at a whole different

The Court For Hear Death Penalty Cases
Court cases are heard on the first Monday of October all the way to late June or early July unless
otherwise decided by the court. In any court system, state or federal, certain requirements must be met
before a case can be brought before a court. (Schmidt, Shelley, Bardes 274) Two of which are
jurisdiction; the authority of the court to hear and decide a case, and standing to sue; an actual reason
to bring to court. Surprisingly the Supreme Court cases have no right of appeal. The court tends to
choose which cases it will decide and there never really is a full explanation on why one was chosen
over another.
In the article, Supreme Court to Hear Death Penalty Cases, in The New York Times; Adam Liptak
talks about two different death penalty cases to be heard in October 2016. Case number 15 8049, Buck
v. Stephens, is to be heard over whether or not race should one of the factors associated with future
dangerousness. Buck, an African American male, was convicted for killing his former girlfriend and
her friend, in front of her children. Buck is being sentenced for the death penalty because Texas law
allows that if prosecutors can show that you pose a future danger to society you may be sentenced to
death. Dr. Walter Quijanos testimony in the trials sentencing phase said It s a sad commentary that
minorities, Hispanics and black people, are overrepresented in the criminal justice system. (Liptak,

Why Is Individual Liberty Important
I believe in individual liberty it is extremely importance to any society. One thing that is important to
an individual liberty is freedom, which I value the most today. Freedom give people the opportunity to
speak, the right to their own opinion and pursue happiness. Freedom is very important to every human
being because it gives you a chance to express yourself and give you an overall quality of life.
However, there is certain limitations when it comes to freedom that we all must live with and that is
the laws that we all must obey.
People have the right to freedom of speech however, every person is responsible for their own action,
life, and well being, everyone should be judge individually regardless of race, gender, and or religion.

interest of the women. There could be several reasons why a woman doesn t want to continue her

Searching For Meaning in Apocalypse Now Essay
Searching For Meaning in Apocalypse Now
Francis Ford Coppola s film Apocalypse Now takes the audience into a tense and mystical journey
through the Vietnam War. This long and agonizing journey is seen through the eyes of Captain Willard
played by Martin Sheen. Sheen. Captain Willard is assigned to a mission that relies on him to
assassinate Colonel Kurtz, who is played by Marlon Brando. Although Apocalypse Now is an
examination of the many terrors of society that are connected to the Vietnam War, Coppola plays
much of his film off Joseph Conrad s novel The Heart of Darkness. Conrad s story focuses on Captain
Marlow who is parallel to Willard and the Colonel Kurtz possesses many of the same characteristics in

Elliot. Coppola uses this poem to share his feelings of how meaningless the Vietnam War, and this
film is very much a protest against the Vietnam War. Kurtz begins by reciting the beginning of the
poem as We are the hollow men. We are the stuffed men. Leaning together, Headpiece filled with
straw. Of course the beginning of the poem explains how men are full in their heads, but it is of a
meaningless substance as compared to straw. The straw in the man s head could be interpreted as the
lies of the Vietnam war, and it is also lies that Kurtz hates the most. Coppola is making a huge
statement here about the war. American soldiers and part of the country itself,(those being in favor of
the Vietnam War), are the hollow men. They went to Vietnam thinking they were going to fight against
Communism and thought they could win the war, but the war was filled with lies in the way the
government organized it, and because it was filled with such lies, it was a meaningless war.
The first twelve lines of the poem then concludes with Shape without form, shade without colour,
Paralyzed force, gesture without motion: Again, this is voidness of anything meaningful or with a true
desire. The shape without form is the lack of Americans to have any kind of structure in the operation
of the war, and it was a colorless war because it was missing a righteous cause linked with ambition.

The movie Dead Poets Society is about a teacher who comes to an academy school to teach a english

The first lesson is to Suck the marrows of life. The second lesson is to do your own things and be

One lesson that was expressed in the movie was to get the most out of your day as possible and don t

The And Other By Ursula K. Le Guin
Here are the two cardinal truths of life: Boys aren t allowed to like the color pink and girls should

Ursula K. Le Guin, the celebrated science fiction author who penned works such as The Left Hand of
Darkness (1969), and Paul Theroux, an American travel writer best known for The Great Railway

solidify their ideas, which easily coexist and even work to support each other. Theroux begins his
paper by defining what it means to be a man stating, It means: Be stupid, be unfeeling, obedient,
soldierly and stop thinking. (2) His intent, in this passage, is to express just how socially harmful
society s definition of manhood can be and he goes on to provide examples of the effects this thinking
has on both genders. He believes it contributes to the widening of the gap between the genders and
encourages them to think of members of the opposite sex as The Other . To be this kind of man means
to insist on a divide between the genders, depriving men of natural, healthy emotions and, although
perhaps unconsciously, promoting the idea of male superiority. He insists that to be a man in

In Mitch Albom s, Tuesdays with Morrie he used many literary devices such as aphorisms. Overall,
there are almost thirty amazing examples of aphorisms in Tuesdays with Morrie . Such as, Love
always wins. (pg. 40), The most important thing in life is to learn how to give out love, and to let it
come in. (p. 52), another one includes, Love is the only rational act. (p. 52). Morrie s aphorisms
mainly speak of love, and how you should treat others. It is a lesson that makes readers think of their
values and their ethics. It also makes you question your morals and how you treat one another. In the
Last Lecture , Randy Pausch also used many aphorisms, although not as much as Tuesdays with
Morrie , due to the fact our class only read an

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Kabuki
Kabuki, a type of Japanese performance, was an art form that became incredibly popular during the
Edo Period. Ignoring the audiences profound love for Kabuki, the Japanese government installed
countless regulations with the sole purpose of constraining the art. Despite the Japanese government s
clear distaste for Kabuki, Kabuki still managed to thrive and shape traditional Japanese society during
the Edo Period. Kabuki was an elaborately detailed, carefully executed art that thrilled its audiences.
Kabuki originated in the early 1600s and was created by a dancer named Okuni. Okuni brought
together a group of travelling actors that sung and danced. This gathering of all female performers
gained popularity as it was designed for the tastes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The government restricted Kabuki s art in countless different ways and even interfered in their
interaction with fans which no doubt would have increased their popularity. Kabuki also began as a
travelling small group of actors, then later progressed into renting out theaters (Britannica Kabuki
2017). One of the most hindering disadvantages of Kabuki was its consistent location throughout
every city: the Floating World. The Floating World was the most undesirable part of Japanese cities
and had the rowdiest customers. Jonathan Leonard, in his book Early Japan, says that: The townsfolk
demanded lusty pleasures. These they found in what was called the Floating World of restaurants and
theaters, prostitutes and bath girls, wrestlers, singers, and dancers (Leonard 1968, 168). The Floating
World was a sort of underground red light district run and occupied by the lower classes. This resulted
in the audiences of Kabuki performances turning out to belong to those lower classes. (analyze that?
What does it mean?))) This unfortunate location of Kabuki invoked a strong dislike towards it from
the government and upper classes. No matter how talented and beautiful the art of Kabuki was, its
reputation was always tainted with how it was surrounded by lower class businesses and located in the
least desirable areas of the

Cooperative Extension Improvements
Cooperative Extension works to offer diverse educational programs in agriculture, community
development, food and nutrition, youth development, and natural resources (Franz Townson, 2008). It
consists of being a part of every state s land grant universities, the United States Department of
Agriculture, and local county governments. Part of the reason it got its name is because it is an
extension of the land grant universities. It is currently the largest adult education organization in the
United States. The Morrill Act of 1862 is what eventually led to the development of Cooperative
Extension. Land grant universities were started because of the Morrill Act, and in 1914 the Smith

Pros And Cons Of Concealed Weapons
Christopher Ingraham brings up a very valid point: how would you feel if you couldn t carry a
concealed weapon? Fifty six percent of Americans would feel safer if more people carried concealed
weapons (Ingraham). Now that s not an overwhelming number, but anything over fifty percent is still
a number that gets your attention. The reason for this is there have been a rise in shootings. People are
starting to realize that if they are allowed to carry concealed weapons, they will have a chance to
protect themselves. Ten years ago, only 27 percent of Americans prefered to be allowed to carry
concealed weapons (Ingraham). Now that s an overwhelming difference.
Gun concealment is an ongoing conflict and for a valid reason. Both sides bring up very good points.
Those sides being, we should be allowed to carry concealed weapons and we should not be able to
carry concealed weapons. This is where things get tricky. People carried concealed weapons anyway.

gun violence would decline and show an overwhelming difference.

Education And Social Economic Reward
We have all heard the expression that education is the key to success. . It makes sense, right? The
more education you have, the more successful you will be. In some ways that is true. The education
we get prepares us for our future and our future outcomes. After all, there is a direct correlation
between education and social economic reward and that people with high education usually live
happier, healthier, and wealthier lives. Those individuals who obtain higher education and the skills
that they learn will later lead the individual to work in high status and high paying jobs. We assume
that they make an astonishing amount of money and everyone lives happily ever after right? In our
world today the American Dream is lost, is just that, a dream. We are taught that if you play by the
rules, work hard, apply yourself and do well in school and that will open doors for you, and you will
be successful and all that other crap we are told in school , TV, news, radio and practically everywhere
else. Although everyone deserves the right to education and the key to success the truth of the matter
is that education inequalities exist and not everyone is getting the same level of education or the same
opportunities either. The group in America that obtains the best education is the upper class while the
lower class students are left with lower odds of education.
One major roadblock in your dreams for success and education is what sociologists know as the
conflict theory. Karl

The Abols Of Symbolism In Nathaniel Hawthorne s The...
In life, people see different meanings to the same events based on their perspective. In the same way,
authors place symbols in a book to intensify the characters emotions and further the plot. Nathaniel
Hawthorne uses symbols in The Scarlet Letter such as the color red, sunshine, and various characters,
such as Chillingworth, Hester, and Pearl. Red is a color that can represent passion, sensitivity, or
power. Throughout the novel, the color red represents all of these descriptions. Hawthorne creates red
objects such as the rosebush, the letter A, and a meteor. The rosebush, as described by the author,
...symbolizes some sweet moral blossom, that may be found along the track, or relieve the darkening
close of a tale of human frailty and sorrow, (Hawthorne 34). Being at the door of a dark prison, the
rosebush stands in contrast to the prison, a place of suffering and shame, and instead gives joy to all
who pass by. This symbol foreshadows Hester s future lifestyle and helps develop her character
throughout the story.
A similar theme of red is shown in the scarlet letter. The Puritans shame Hester by forcing her to wear
it, symbolizing her sin; however, she overcomes this shame by helping the needy. The author
describes the scarlet letter, in fine red cloth, surrounded with an elaborate embroidery and fantastic
flourishes of gold thread, appeared the letter A, (Hawthorne 37). The letter is significant because while
the Puritans wanted her to feel ashamed by the letter,

beard trimmer reviews. Just like buying any other product, there is so much to choose from, and such
a large range in pricing, it is wise to research for just the right product. Whether planning to spend a

Reading beard trimmer reviews helps one learn, not only the perks of the product, but also see the
unnecessary items included that may not be needed. For instance, some beard trimmer sets include
guards, combs, and even a vial of clipper oil. Other sets may only include the trimmer itself. A

Darwin s Theory Of Evolution Of Species
In 1831, a newly graduated botanist named Charles Darwin was offered a position on a five year
voyage mapping the coasts of South America. Darwin eagerly accepted this offer, seeing it as an
opportunity to study specimens discovered on his journey. Upon returning to London, Darwin spent
the next ten years meticulously cataloging and researching his findings. It was these studies that gave
birth to a much deeper and more impactful discussion; the origins of species. Prior to Darwin s studies
the discussion of the origin of man was dominated by creationism, or the belief that we derive from
god, who created us all in his image. For the next thirty years, Darwin devoted himself to researching
the long standing question where did we come ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is more of an alternate perspective on the driving force behind biological evolution. Rather than
thinking that natural selection and random mutation lead evolution, theistic evolutionists hypothesize
that god only used evolution as a means to create man, a process often referred to as Guided Evolution
. Regardless of the interpretation, both forms assert that life stems from a common ancestor, created
by god and designed to be the beginning of the evolutionary process. A glaring objection to this idea is
that of the Book of Genesis, which displays the origin of man from a creationist point of view.
According to this piece of work, God created the physical world in entirety within six days, and finally
creating man from dust on the seventh day. Theistic evolutionists emphasize the metaphorical meaning
behind the Book of Genesis, while holding their position that the words should not be taken literally,
and the components of the story did not actually happen. There are several arguments that are made in
opposition to guided evolution, the most widely used objection is the Problem of Evil . The problem
of evil questions how one could reconcile the existence evil in the world with an omnibenevolent god.
In regards to guided evolution, if god really designed the entire process with an end goal of creating
man, why include so many wasteful and cruel components? If god was in fact all loving

The Dream Of A Lucid Dream
It is said that a lucid dream is a dream that can be induced or controlled and is characterized by the
dreamer being aware that he or she is dreaming (Lucid). When lucidity occurs, the dreamer wakes up
inside the dream during fixed states of cognizance. Dreams are caused by things ...our mind knows,
however which we cannot handle, is disturbing or something that we keep reiterating to ourselves
(Ganguly). This is why distinguishing significant dream symbols from ambient symbols is important
for attempting this state. Many people propose dream interpretation to help better understand the
conscious state, but some are said to lucid dream to not only control the dream, but to elate themselves
while asleep. When experts are asked why people dream, the answers prove indecisive. Some claims
have been that dreams are caused by hidden desires, impressions, or how things are perceived; but, of
course the imagination and the hidden ways of the brain interact with these druthers. Neurologists and
psychologists have strived to reach an understanding of how brains put dreams together. Some believe
Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung have done just that. Although both have different ways of going about
things, both the arguments are compelling and sophisticated; however, each psychologist have key
differences that could make all the difference when finding the truth about lucid dreaming.

Fixed vs Floating Interest Rate
Subject:
Fixed versus floating exchange rates
Introduction
The exchange rate regime
The exchange rate regime is the way a country manages its currency in respect to foreign currencies
and the foreign exchange market. Each country has its exchange rate policy which determines the
form of a government influence on the currency exchange rate.
There are three main type of the exchange rate regime: a floating exchange rate, where the market
dictates the movements of the exchange rate, and the fixed exchange rate, which ties the currency to
another currency, a pegged float, where the central bank keeps the rate from deviating too far from a

Inability to shock adjustments
When the fixed exchange rate is used there is no automatic mechanism of economy adjustments in
case of crisis. Then the government have to use its reserves in order to protect its currency. If the crisis
is profound the reserves can be insufficient to support the currency and maintain the balance. It can
lead to depression or deflation. In some cases devaluation of the currency would be necessary.
Speculation probability
When there is a problem with balance of payments the speculator can expect the necessity of
exchange rate adjustment. In case of growing deficit they can worsen the situation by selling the
currency and thus even enlarge the deficit.
The floating exchange rate
A floating exchange rate or fluctuating exchange rate is a type of exchange rate regime wherein a
currency s value is allowed to fluctuate according to the foreign exchange market. The exchange rate
is determined by the relationship between demand and supply. The phenomenon of lowering a floating
exchange rate the currency is defined as depreciation and the growth rate as an appreciation. A
currency that uses a floating exchange rate is known as a floating currency. Floating exchange rates
automatically adjust what can dampen the impact of shocks and foreign business cycles.

Dorian Gray Choices
As J.K Rowling once said, It is our choices... that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities .
An individual s choices are reflective who they are and what they may become. In The Picture of
Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde, Dorian s pivotal decision to strike a Faustian Bargain causes him to
incessantly make poor choices that eventually lead to his demise. This is illustrated through Dorian s
decision to befriend Lord Henry, become engaged to Sybil Vane, ignore his discovery of the portraits
power, and lastly his decision to murder Basil Hallward. In each of these cases, Dorian makes
increasingly worse choices that ultimately result in his destruction. To begin with, Dorian s decision to

In the first place, Dorian s intentions with Sybil were not genuine. This is illustrated when Lord Henry
inquires about Sybil from Dorian; I will tell you, Harry; but you mustn t be unsympathetic about it.
After all, it never would have happened if I had not met you. You filled me with a wild desire to know
everything about life. For days after I met you, something seemed to throb in my veins (35). He later
on continues to say; You said to me once that pathos left you unmoved, but that beauty, mere beauty ,
could fill your eyes with tears. I tell you, Harry, I could hardly see this girl for the mist of tears that
came across me (37). From this it is evident that Dorian s feelings towards Sybil were insincere.
Dorian pursues her out of the sake of curiosity Lord Henry evokes in him. The idea of love and
passion now greatly appeal to Dorian although he himself doesn t fully comprehend what it is. The
idea of what Sybil Vane could mean to him draws him to her. Also, under the continuous influence of
Lord Henry Dorian now feels that beauty is the most important aspect in life. One of the sole reasons
he is drawn to Sybil is because of her exceptional beauty and her artistic talents. As a result, this leads
to Dorian s feelings for Sybil to be misplaced. He does not know anything about her yet due to his

Case Study Of Azathiopidia With Lupus
Amegakaryocytic thrombocytopenia is a rare complication of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE)

to which she had mild and ill sustained response. Intravenous immunoglobulin was administered, with
the successful rise in platelet counts to 80,000/mm3. The choice of another agent for maintenance
immunosuppressive therapy was the prime concern. Literature on amegakaryocytic thrombocytopenia
in lupus is limited to few case reports of successful use of Rituximab, cyclosporine and

African Elephants In Kingdom Animalia
African elephants, Loxodonta africana, are found in Kingdom Animalia. They re native to the
rainforests in central and West Africa and are also located in the sub Saharan Africa ( African ).
Elephants are herbivores, meaning they only consume plants for nutrients. They begin the
extracellular digestion process when the food enters through the mouth. They break it down
mechanically with their teeth. It then travels down their esophagus, into their stomachs, and then
makes its way down to their intestines. Elephant intestines can reach up to 19 meters (64 feet). The
waste is then emptied when the elephant defecates (MacKenzie). Elephants use their kidneys for
excretion. When they build up ammonia, they turn it into urea. The urea is released through urine.
Elephants have particularly large lungs that fasten directly to the ... Show more content on

The male s sperm is released into the egg and then conception occurs. It is internal fertilization. The
males are ready to mate around the age of 40 or 50, and the females are prepared for breeding at about
14 years. They are usually pregnant for 2 years and then a calf is born ( Elephant ).
Elephants have endoskeletons that provide structural support. Another part of their skeletal system
includes joints that are held together by ligaments which help land mammals to move comfortably.
Their muscles also control movement. The tendons connect their muscles to their bones. All together,
these structures control how the elephant is able to stand, walk, bend, and other such movements.
An elephant has a strong sense of smell and hearing. The trunks of elephants are extremely sensitive to
the touch. They have many nerve endings that send information to the brain. These same nerve
endings are located in the bottom of the elephants feet. When they sense danger, they prepare to
protect themselves. While they do not like to fight, they have stable tusks to help them protect
themselves and thick outer skin

The High School Student Program
Choice is a luxury most in rural China cannot afford but, as a 16 year old girl who had just arrived to
the United States, the myriad of choices that lay before me was extremely awesome. I equated the
impressive array of choice in terms related to good fortune or even wealth, and this beginning would
serve as the impetus to my achievements in this country thus far. But, what compelled me to leave my
home and family, and travel alone to this country, was to become educated. Where I am from in China,
education seems almost to be a type of magic that can only be wished for; it is elusive to most. I
recognized that education lay at the core of opportunity, and if I focused and worked hard I could one
day share the good fortune of choice as well as the magic that only education can inspire others, both
here as well as in China. I arrived to the U.S. as a high school junior under the J 1 Visa, Secondary
School Student Program and had the privilege to have stayed in Virginia with a family headed by
parents who are both school teachers. Upon completion, I obtained an F 1 student visa and completed
my senior year in 2011 at a rural boarding school in northeast Georgia. Upon arriving to Drexel
University (Drexel) as a freshman I had already decided that my future professional life would, in
some way, be in education. After transferring to New York University (NYU) as a junior, I would
choose a degree in economics, which I felt to be fundamental in terms of my aspirations as a leader

Essay about Teaching Morality
Teaching Morality
In The Night is Dark and I am Far From Home, Jonathan Kozol writes that The first goal and primary
function of the U.S. public school is not to educate good people, but good citizens. (1). He implies that
the public school has no function but to turn out people who will vote, pay their taxes, and follow the
nations laws without protest. If this is so, and I believe that it is, should the philosophy of the public
school system be changed to produce morally upright individuals? I believe that schools should try to
produce the best people they can. Many people argue that morals should be taught at home, but that
isn t good enough. Some say that good citizens make good people, but I say that that isn t the case.
Many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Still, a back up plan is needed. So the question remains: if parents aren t available or able, to make
sure that their children grow up with a good strong moral foundation, who will?
The only answer that truly makes sense is school. For six hours a day, five days a week, 180 days a
year, children are forced to spend their time in a classroom. Teachers are with their students sometimes
more than the children s parents are. These adults that are entrusted with the education of our youth
during their most formative years are in a position to exert a tremendous influence. We should take
advantage of that, not shun it.
Some people argue that if schooling teaches a child how to be a good citizen, then being a good
person will take care of itself, as if good citizenship begets a good person. This isn t necessarily the
truth.
The rougher kids called him a pinko, hippie, garbage, Communist, or faggot. (Kozol, 129)During
much of my high school career, while I was never called anything like that, I was not very popular. I
had friends who I was very close to, but I was never one of the people in the midst of the social whirl
that can be found at any high school. I didn t go to parties, I seldom, if ever, went out on dates, and the
only time that I mixed with the popular crowd was in class, if we had group work.

Women in Athens Sparta
Women in Ancient Sparta amp; Athens
By: Tony Knuth
12/9/09
Historians have spent a long time attempting to establish what exactly life was like for women in
ancient Greece. Like all studies of ancient Greece, they focus primarily on the two most powerful city
states in the Hellenic world, Athens and Sparta. Since the majority of the primary documents deal with
these two cities, historians are only able to decipher a fragmentary view of what life was actually like
for the entirety of society, let alone what life was like for women specifically. Nevertheless,
researchers have dug through the chronicles of primary sources available in order to provide the most
accurate depiction of Greek women possible. Researchers generally start by ... Show more content on

In addition, CSUN Spartan women did not marry when they were of tender years, but [when] in their
full bloom and ripeness , allowing many of them to pursue their education for the same length of time
as modern students. They most likely learned cultural norms through differing types of performance
art, specifically choruses sung at festivals or during early plays, along with reading, arithmetic and
writing. The purpose of these performances by young maidens was twofold: first to entice young men
to marry, along with instilling both men and women with the idea of what a good Spartan should be.
In addition to having a great deal of freedom in education, Spartan women were also able to own land.
In his work Politics, Aristotle points out that about two fifths of the whole land are in the possession of
women . Women would generally obtain these properties through large dowries given in marriage, or
through inheritance as is evident when Aristotle laments the practice of giving large dowries saying it
would be better if there were no dowries, or if they were small or at any rate moderate . Women s
ability to become the sole proprietors of land was something relatively unheard of in the Hellenic
world, hence Aristotle s confusion and desire to reduce the amount of land held by them.
Athenian women s role was identical to that of Spartan women in respect to their importance in
reproduction. Thucydides states that Pericles encouraged procreation and saw a double

The Importance Of International Adoption
Imagine in a country far, far away there sits a little boy out on the streets with nothing but the clothes
on his back and a torn up blanket in his hand that attempts to keep him warm at night, yet every time
he tries to sleep he can t because he is cold, sad, and alone. He has no home and has no family to look
after him, love him, and take care of him. He needs a family and a home. He needs someone to adopt
him. Millions of kids in the world are alone and without parent, always wandering around and
constantly living in a state of fear from torture, abuse, war, and slavery. These kids could have a home

International adoption is a life saving form of care for children who do not otherwise have families.
Yet, professionals and families find ourselves increasingly on the defensive from an unwarranted
amount of scrutiny and criticism, both abroad and in the United States (Spivack 1). There is so much
Bad media going around about international adoption portraying it as an evil system and therefore
scaring potential adopting parents from adopting internationally. For example, television shows in the
United States, show foreign press, and foreign politicians bombard the public with stories of
kidnapping, corruption, body part sales. When people see this they believe it and then are scared to go
and adopt from certain countries. By supporting international adoption you are instilling a certain type
of confidence that other people can see. This type of confidence radiates off of you and encourages
others to go and take the same risk even though the risk may be scary and dangerous. Country
adoption programs are closing everyday due to disproportionately negative media, misinformation and
ultimately tainted public perception of international adoption. The time has come for adoption
professionals and adoptive families to put an end to the propaganda and use our collective power to
correct public perception. Otherwise, international adoption could soon become extinct, dooming
millions of children around the world to childhoods languishing in underfunded orphanages, or on the
streets, with dim prospects for adulthood beyond drug dependency, crime and prison (Spivack 2). Just
remember that your actions are for a greater

Essay Starting A Spark
Starting a Spark
Having courage isn t the same as having no fear. It s being afraid and pushing forward anyway.
Although spoken by a fictional character, Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III from Dreamworks
Dragons, this quote holds a very real truth. This truth is especially evident in the lives of siblings Hans
and Sophie Scholl, founders of a peaceful anti Nazi group in Germany called The White Rose. After
realizing the errors of Hitler s ways, they started writing anonymous leaflets to expose him, which
they knew could cause them a lot of trouble. Despite the looming danger of an entire nation pining
against them, the Scholls persevered courageously to make a difference in their own setting in a way
that inspires me to do the same. In the 1930s, German teenagers everywhere were joining the Hitler
Youth, a movement designed to separate the weak children from the strong adults, as it were. Hitler
believed that the future of Germany laid in the children ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Among the good natured types is moral courage. Moral courage is being persistent in the face of
adversity when everyone else is against what you know is right. This can be manifested in a variety of
ways. It can be as trivial as standing up to a bully or as extreme as going up against an entire nation to
spread a message it does not want to hear. The White Rose knew that Hitler was wrong, yet the wool
had been pulled so thickly over everyone s eyes, that it would take far too long to remove it all before
the authorities exterminated the bugs trying to undo their work. Even so, the White Rose knew that all
it takes is a spark to start an inferno. As little progress as it may have seemed they made, it graduated
into something phenomenal. In the words of Sophie Scholl, Somebody, after all, had to make a start.
What we wrote and said is also believed by many others. They just do not dare to express themselves
as we did

  • 2. Essay on Womens Roles in Society Women s roles have changed so much within the last couple of centuries. In the older years, women were the sole responsibility of taking care of the children, doing housework, and pretty much taking care of their husbands. The Story of an Hour, by Kate Chopin, A Doll s House, Henrik Ibsen, and The Yellow Wallpaper, by Charlotte Gilman are all literature pieces talking about the roles women have in society. In The story of an Hour, the main character is not happy in her marriage, and she finds out that her husband got killed, and she felt very free. In A Doll s House, the main character is not happy with her marriage, because she feels that she is being treated like a childish, playful doll, and does not get any respect from her ... After her sister told her about her husband getting killed in a railroad accident, Mrs. Mallard ran off into her room, with no one following her. She sat in a chair staring outside through the open window. She started seeing everything outside come to life, and all of a sudden she felt something come across her. She told herself that she was free. She was happy to be able to live on her own and only be responsible for herself. Josephine was outside her door telling Mrs. Mallard to come out, because Josephine thought she was making herself ill. Mrs. Mallard came out of the room with her arms opened wide and put her hands around her sister s waist. They both started going to the stairs, and Richards was waiting for them at the bottom. All of a sudden, someone was opening the door, and their stood Brently Mallard, who did not even know about the accident or there had even been one. Mrs. Mallard saw her husband, and the doctors said she died of a heart disease (cited in DiYanni, 2007). The conflict in the story is that Mrs. Mallard is way too happy about her husband dying. After going into the room and closing the door, she started looking outside and could see the tops of trees that were all aquiver with the new spring life (DiYanni 2007, p. 39). Sustainable development is development that meet the needs of the present without comprising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. It can effect the companies development and reputation. As a result, more and more companies are pay attention to sustainability when they doing activities to developing the companies. Many companies take actions however just focus on environment and labor rights issues. (Hower,2013) This essay will use Nestle as an example to analysis the Gray s opinion. Related literature In 2002, Gray already stated that the real danger we face today is that there is lots of talk about something which nobody is doing, can do or wants to do in sustainability reporting. There is an awful lot of talk and very little action. Don t believe what you read, and social and environmental accountability will remain a nice idea until there is substantive legislation requiring it of all large organizations. (Gray,2002) Many companies really do follow sustainable practices. However, some make such claims without any facts to back them up. For example, Green washing. Greenwashing Index defines as when a company or organization spends more time and money claiming to be green through advertising and marketing than actually implementing business practices that minimize environmental impact. It s whitewashing, but with a green brush. (Burg,2013) These companies actually make limited contribution to developing sustainability. Such as Coca Cola, according to the consumer report, they think Coca Cola accusing Coca Cola of green washing , because their new Plant Bottle Marketing overstated environmental benefits. By marketing the product the sales would either be high or low depending on the market responses. One way to ensure successfully marketing to the right consumers is through the use of Operant Conditioning. Operant Conditioning, also known as Instrumental learning is defined as a learning process by which the consequences of an operant response affects the likelihood that the response will occur in the future (Kozak, pg 22). Basically, Operant Conditioning is a stimulus response pattern that when reinforced will condition the individual response to a desired behavior. Our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When you purchase the specific product you are being reinforced to make the actual purchase because of the reward of receiving money back. There are two types of reinforcements, positive and negative. Positive reinforcers bring pleasant consequence abrupt by adding something pleasant to the environment of the individual. This increases the probability that the response will occur again (Darcy, pg 224). For example to increase customer response you may want to send a trail sample or coupon to entice the customer to the store so as to make a purchase. On the other hand negative reinforcement is the removal of negative stimuli from the individual surrounding environment. Negative reinforcement is a way to get rid of undesirable behaviors. Think about when you are listening to a radio and you are trying to hear the advertisement that is coming in all fuzzy. Well, if you adjust the setting on the radio to eliminate the static, you will be able to hear the advertisement and possibly want to proceed on to buy the product. In this case, you are removing the unpleasant behavior such as the static from the immediate situation to bring about the pleasantness of the advertisement. These two aspects of reinforcement both strengthen the individual s behavior by adding or subtracting necessary praise or barriers. • 6. Social Movement And The Industrial Revolution There have been several social movements in history that have impacted the world. Groups of people have come together and tried their hardest to make a difference in unresolved problems and issues. It is hard to make a difference as an individual trying to change something big, it becomes easier when you find people who have the same beliefs as you and will fight for it along your side. This is social change, and normally comes about through collective behavior and social movements. Social change is a significant change in behaviors and cultural values and norms. For example significant changes that have occurred in the past are the abolition of slavery, the changes put into action after 9/11, the feminist movement, and the industrial revolution. As I mentioned early social change occurs through both collective behavior and social movements. Collective behavior is a voluntary activity that many people take part in to change norms and values of the people around them. Collective behavior can be seen in many different ways. For example, there can be crowds, masses, panics, mobs, riots, fads, public opinion and fashion. An example of this would be when Cooper Tire in Findlay Ohio went on strike in order to get a new contract with better medical benefits. The workers walked off one morning and stood outside of the factory. Social Movement is an organized group that works together to promote or resist change through action. While chaos / a fight arose, other prisoners, the guards, and the Colonel observed, until the Colonel finally gave the order to put a stop to it. Although bean bags were shot rather than live ammunition, apparently the Colonel had given orders to aim at the head periodically (calling it an accident), especially when prisoners (or animals, as the Colonel called them often) were killed. This type of leadership is in line with Machiavelli s, pg. 4, assumed view of human nature in the prison, that human beings are essentially evil... as the prisoners/animals were evil. Also, I compared this accidental killing of prisoners in The Castle like the beginning of Sun Tzu. Sun Tzu killed the King s two favorite concubines because they failed to follow orders. This relates to a family tree because you have your aunts and uncles, but they are not your 100% main blood, they are what I would consider sub cultures. Your mother and father would be conisderd your main culture, because they are the people who made you, not only that they shaped your culture and beliefs. This is only a sample of what I am discussing, in English class we read the story, Mother Tounge. In Mother Tounge I can proove to you that there is only one dominate culture. In Mother Tounge Amy Tan s main culture is her family. One example is that Amy talks in a semi broken form of English when she is with her family. An example of her doing this is when she is talking about used furniture with her family, Amy says, We were talking about the price of new and used furniture and I heard myself saying this; Not waste money that way. It is rather odd, considering she is an author. If not, let me introduce you to the Haiti Earthquake. This enormous earthquake destroyed many lives. It was believed to have been caused by the shifting of tectonic plates in the Earth. But, is this the truth? In 2010, an earthquake broke out in Haiti. The city was left in ruins, 1.5 million people lost their homes, and hundreds of thousands of people were either killed or injured. Scientists claim that the cause of this earthquake was because of slippage along the conservative plate boundary that runs through Haiti. But, some conspiracy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But, conspiracy theorists think HAARP s purpose is far more sinister than meets the eye, says Stephanie Pappas, reporter for NBC news. HAARP is believed to use their resources for weather warfare, which also plays into the role of the thought of HAARP causing the earthquake in Haiti. Some reasoning that causes this theory is as follows: Just a few hundred miles away from Haiti is a HAARP array; The earthquake did not occur on a big fault line. This earthquake happened quite farther south of the North American plate and Caribbean plate. It is rare that a quake is to occur here, which makes room for conspiracies that HAARP caused it. These are just two of the many reasons that stem from HAARP s involvement with the Haiti Earthquake. So how did HAARP cause the earthquake? HAARP has heaters in the Ionosphere. From these heaters comes ELF (Extremely Low Frequency) waves. These waves are powerful enough, at the right frequency, to cause vibrations in the Earth, which can lead to an earthquake. One reason as to why HAARP would want to cause an earthquake is because of the idea that Haiti is an unguarded, unwanted, low protection country that could make a good place to test an earthquake. It also seems odd that, since this earthquake was deep in Earth s surface, it only affected ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It has an abundant amount of great elements to it that add a great deal of depth to the picture such as its use of mise en scene, cinematography, and editing techniques. By combining all of these elements together, they help to bring the films form and narrative together to show a reoccurring theme of life versus death. The use of mise en scene elements contribute a great deal to the films overall theme. In the particular scene for this analysis, an element that stands out a number of times is lighting. There is an immense difference between the amount of light when Madeline and John are in the forrest as opposed to when they are out near the shore line. The scene also uses the lack ... In the shot where John and Madeline are behind the tree trying to discuss where she was born or who she is (around two minutes fifty seconds), the camera zooms in on the two of them. As John keeps pushing her to talk, she gets even more confused and frustrated. To emphasize this, the directors made the camera zoom in so you can see every emotion on her face up close and personal. This connects this scene to the ideology that you are always connected to your past, whether you know it or not. Inside, she knows that she is Carlotta, but she can t establish the difference between herself and the side of her that is Carlotta. In addition to zooming, the scene also includes deep focus. By using deep focus throughout the entire scene, you get a better scene of space. By establishing this large space within the shots, it creates a contrast within the film. Although there is so much space in the scenes, Madeline still feels enclosed by her own mind. You can tell that once she gets out of the trees, she lets go slightly. • 11. The Court For Hear Death Penalty Cases Court cases are heard on the first Monday of October all the way to late June or early July unless otherwise decided by the court. In any court system, state or federal, certain requirements must be met before a case can be brought before a court. (Schmidt, Shelley, Bardes 274) Two of which are jurisdiction; the authority of the court to hear and decide a case, and standing to sue; an actual reason to bring to court. Surprisingly the Supreme Court cases have no right of appeal. The court tends to choose which cases it will decide and there never really is a full explanation on why one was chosen over another. In the article, Supreme Court to Hear Death Penalty Cases, in The New York Times; Adam Liptak talks about two different death penalty cases to be heard in October 2016. Case number 15 8049, Buck v. Stephens, is to be heard over whether or not race should one of the factors associated with future dangerousness. Buck, an African American male, was convicted for killing his former girlfriend and her friend, in front of her children. Buck is being sentenced for the death penalty because Texas law allows that if prosecutors can show that you pose a future danger to society you may be sentenced to death. However, there is certain limitations when it comes to freedom that we all must live with and that is the laws that we all must obey. Although Apocalypse Now is an examination of the many terrors of society that are connected to the Vietnam War, Coppola plays much of his film off Joseph Conrad s novel The Heart of Darkness. Kurtz begins by reciting the beginning of the poem as We are the hollow men. We are the stuffed men. Leaning together, Headpiece filled with straw. Of course the beginning of the poem explains how men are full in their heads, but it is of a meaningless substance as compared to straw. The straw in the man s head could be interpreted as the lies of the Vietnam war, and it is also lies that Kurtz hates the most. Coppola is making a huge statement here about the war. American soldiers and part of the country itself,(those being in favor of the Vietnam War), are the hollow men. They went to Vietnam thinking they were going to fight against Communism and thought they could win the war, but the war was filled with lies in the way the government organized it, and because it was filled with such lies, it was a meaningless war. The first twelve lines of the poem then concludes with Shape without form, shade without colour, Paralyzed force, gesture without motion: Again, this is voidness of anything meaningful or with a true desire. The shape without form is the lack of Americans to have any kind of structure in the operation of the war, and it was a colorless war because it was missing a righteous cause linked with ambition. ... One of the most hindering disadvantages of Kabuki was its consistent location throughout every city: the Floating World. The Floating World was the most undesirable part of Japanese cities and had the rowdiest customers. Jonathan Leonard, in his book Early Japan, says that: The townsfolk demanded lusty pleasures. In the same way, authors place symbols in a book to intensify the characters emotions and further the plot. Nathaniel Hawthorne uses symbols in The Scarlet Letter such as the color red, sunshine, and various characters, such as Chillingworth, Hester, and Pearl. Red is a color that can represent passion, sensitivity, or power. Throughout the novel, the color red represents all of these descriptions. Hawthorne creates red objects such as the rosebush, the letter A, and a meteor. The rosebush, as described by the author, ...symbolizes some sweet moral blossom, that may be found along the track, or relieve the darkening close of a tale of human frailty and sorrow, (Hawthorne 34). Being at the door of a dark prison, the rosebush stands in contrast to the prison, a place of suffering and shame, and instead gives joy to all who pass by. This symbol foreshadows Hester s future lifestyle and helps develop her character throughout the story. A similar theme of red is shown in the scarlet letter. The Puritans shame Hester by forcing her to wear it, symbolizing her sin; however, she overcomes this shame by helping the needy. Through characters like McMurphy and Chief Bromden, Kesey shows that the men are not mentally ill, instead they are disturbed by the corrupted treatment from Nurse Ratched. The Chief fools everyone by playing deaf and dumb, so the patients in the ward talk out loud about their hate secrets when I m [Bromden] nearby because they think I m deaf and dumb. Everybody thinks so. With Bromden s intelligence he notes that, If somebody d of come in and took a look, men watching a blank TV, a fifty year old woman hollering and squealing at the back of their heads about discipline and order and recriminations, they d of thought the whole bunch was crazy as loons. because he knows that the ward makes the men crazy, not their own minds. Watching a blank TV because Nurse Ratched shouts at you too is a over exaggerated version of reality, and how people like political leaders give the orders while we all obey. In the ward the Chief is taken over by a fog of fear that consequently began in his time in the ward because he fears society in which he has not been able to face in many years. In the fog dreams the reader is able to learn about society through the metaphors of his dreams because they all have the same meaning: society craves conformity. Fixed vs Floating Interest Rate Subject: Fixed versus floating exchange rates Introduction The exchange rate regime The exchange rate regime is the way a country manages its currency in respect to foreign currencies and the foreign exchange market. Each country has its exchange rate policy which determines the form of a government influence on the currency exchange rate. There are three main type of the exchange rate regime: a floating exchange rate, where the market dictates the movements of the exchange rate, and the fixed exchange rate, which ties the currency to another currency, a pegged float, where the central bank keeps the rate from deviating too far from a target band or value, divides into 2 subtypes: o Crawling bands: ... Then the government have to use its reserves in order to protect its currency. If the crisis is profound the reserves can be insufficient to support the currency and maintain the balance. It can lead to depression or deflation. In some cases devaluation of the currency would be necessary. Speculation probability When there is a problem with balance of payments the speculator can expect the necessity of exchange rate adjustment. In case of growing deficit they can worsen the situation by selling the currency and thus even enlarge the deficit. The floating exchange rate A floating exchange rate or fluctuating exchange rate is a type of exchange rate regime wherein a currency s value is allowed to fluctuate according to the foreign exchange market. The exchange rate is determined by the relationship between demand and supply. The phenomenon of lowering a floating exchange rate the currency is defined as depreciation and the growth rate as an appreciation. An individual s choices are reflective who they are and what they may become. In The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde, Dorian s pivotal decision to strike a Faustian Bargain causes him to incessantly make poor choices that eventually lead to his demise. This is illustrated through Dorian s decision to befriend Lord Henry, become engaged to Sybil Vane, ignore his discovery of the portraits power, and lastly his decision to murder Basil Hallward. In each of these cases, Dorian makes increasingly worse choices that ultimately result in his destruction. To begin with, Dorian s decision to befriend Lord Henry is the first choice ... This is illustrated when Lord Henry inquires about Sybil from Dorian; I will tell you, Harry; but you mustn t be unsympathetic about it. After all, it never would have happened if I had not met you. You filled me with a wild desire to know everything about life. For days after I met you, something seemed to throb in my veins (35). He later on continues to say; You said to me once that pathos left you unmoved, but that beauty, mere beauty , could fill your eyes with tears. I tell you, Harry, I could hardly see this girl for the mist of tears that came across me (37). From this it is evident that Dorian s feelings towards Sybil were insincere. Dorian pursues her out of the sake of curiosity Lord Henry evokes in him. The idea of love and passion now greatly appeal to Dorian although he himself doesn t fully comprehend what it is. The idea of what Sybil Vane could mean to him draws him to her. Also, under the continuous influence of Lord Henry Dorian now feels that beauty is the most important aspect in life. One of the sole reasons he is drawn to Sybil is because of her exceptional beauty and her artistic talents. As a result, this leads to Dorian s feelings for Sybil to be misplaced. Intravenous immunoglobulin was administered, with the successful rise in platelet counts to 80,000/mm3. The choice of another agent for maintenance immunosuppressive therapy was the prime concern. The High School Student Program Choice is a luxury most in rural China cannot afford but, as a 16 year old girl who had just arrived to the United States, the myriad of choices that lay before me was extremely awesome. I equated the impressive array of choice in terms related to good fortune or even wealth, and this beginning would serve as the impetus to my achievements in this country thus far. But, what compelled me to leave my home and family, and travel alone to this country, was to become educated. Where I am from in China, education seems almost to be a type of magic that can only be wished for; it is elusive to most. I recognized that education lay at the core of opportunity, and if I focused and worked hard I could one day share the good fortune of choice as well as the magic that only education can inspire others, both here as well as in China. I arrived to the U.S. as a high school junior under the J 1 Visa, Secondary School Student Program and had the privilege to have stayed in Virginia with a family headed by parents who are both school teachers. Upon completion, I obtained an F 1 student visa and completed my senior year in 2011 at a rural boarding school in northeast Georgia. If this is so, and I believe that it is, should the philosophy of the public school system be changed to produce morally upright individuals? So the question remains: if parents aren t available or able, to make sure that their children grow up with a good strong moral foundation, who will? The only answer that truly makes sense is school. For six hours a day, five days a week, 180 days a year, children are forced to spend their time in a classroom. Teachers are with their students sometimes more than the children s parents are. These adults that are entrusted with the education of our youth during their most formative years are in a position to exert a tremendous influence. We should take advantage of that, not shun it. Some people argue that if schooling teaches a child how to be a good citizen, then being a good person will take care of itself, as if good citizenship begets a good person. This isn t necessarily the truth. The rougher kids called him a pinko, hippie, garbage, Communist, or faggot. Women in Athens Sparta Women in Ancient Sparta amp; Athens By: Tony Knuth 12/9/09 Historians have spent a long time attempting to establish what exactly life was like for women in ancient Greece. Like all studies of ancient Greece, they focus primarily on the two most powerful city states in the Hellenic world, Athens and Sparta. Since the majority of the primary documents deal with these two cities, historians are only able to decipher a fragmentary view of what life was actually like for the entirety of society, let alone what life was like for women specifically. They most likely learned cultural norms through differing types of performance art, specifically choruses sung at festivals or during early plays, along with reading, arithmetic and writing. The purpose of these performances by young maidens was twofold: first to entice young men to marry, along with instilling both men and women with the idea of what a good Spartan should be. In addition to having a great deal of freedom in education, Spartan women were also able to own land. In his work Politics, Aristotle points out that about two fifths of the whole land are in the possession of women . Women would generally obtain these properties through large dowries given in marriage, or through inheritance as is evident when Aristotle laments the practice of giving large dowries saying it would be better if there were no dowries, or if they were small or at any rate moderate . Women s ability to become the sole proprietors of land was something relatively unheard of in the Hellenic world, hence Aristotle s confusion and desire to reduce the amount of land held by them. For example, television shows in the United States, show foreign press, and foreign politicians bombard the public with stories of kidnapping, corruption, body part sales. After realizing the errors of Hitler s ways, they started writing anonymous leaflets to expose him, which they knew could cause them a lot of trouble.
