The Heart Lab Report
In this lab, the students observed the rate and rhythm and how it fluctuates when an individual is
relaxed, in a seated position, and after exercising. The Heart is a hollow muscular organ that is
cone shaped and it is located in the mediastinum in between the lungs (The Heart, Slide 3 2016).
The heart is separated into two main divisions, the pulmonary circuit and the systemic circuit. The
pulmonary circuit helps carry bloodto the lungs from the heartfor gas exchange and it is located in
the right side of the heart. In the pulmonary circuit the heart fills with blood in the right atrium then
it passes through the right atrioventricular valve which then leads to the right ventricle. Once it is
in the right ventricle, the right ventricle contracts which opens the pulmonary valves. After this
blood flows from the pulmonary valve to the pulmonary trunk which then distributes it into the right
and left pulmonary arteries that supply the lungs where it deposits oxygenated blood.... Show more

In the systemic circuit blood returns from the lungs into the left atrium. Once in the left atrium
blood flows though the left atrioventricular valve into the left ventricle. The left ventricle then
contracts and the aortic valve opens because of the contraction. Blood then flows through he aortic
valve into the ascending aorta and then once in the aorta it is then sent to every organ in the body
where it excretes oxygen and intakes carbon dioxide. Finally, the carbon dioxide rich blood returns
itself to the heart for the process to reoccur again. Both circuits must always maintain circulation so
that blood can be constantly disbursed throughout the body (The Heart, Slide 11

Drug Design And Biological Recognition Research Lab
It all came together last summer on a 5,724.8 mile bicycle ride from Texas to Alaska. I was
among a group of students lucky enough to wear the Texas 4000 for Cancer jersey and devote a
summer to pedaling for a cause. Like with many other premed students, signs that showed how
interested I was in medicine were apparent since before I can remember, but everything from my
summer trip validated further every desire I had to join the medical field as a doctor. At the age
of ten I was confident I wanted to spend the rest of my life getting back at the disease that took
my grandmother away a decision that led me as a freshman in college to a drug design and
biological recognition research lab. I joined the lab as a way to help others by studying infectious
diseases, but I sought out a way to make a more personal and unique impact on others Texas 4000.
The 70 day ride of spreading hope, knowledge, and charity took 18 months of physical and mental
preparation, leadership development, volunteering around the community, fundraising for cancer
research and support groups, and significantly less time for studying, but it certainly paid off.
Although there were times when I wanted to give in to people s doubts about me training for
and completing summer ride, I pushed through every cramp in my shoulders, every cut on my
legs, and every day of the cold Canadian rain I wish I could ve skipped biking was the only option,
and it was what I had promised to do. I initially joined to honor

Analysis Of The Article Why Hominids And Space Go...
Manned spaceflight is a crucial argument in society. Two writers, Seth Shostak and John
Logsdon, both believe that America is making a mistake by ending manned space exploration.
Seth Shostak is the author of the article Why Hominids and Space Go Together in The New York
Times Room for Debate; his article is about how President Obama s new vision for the NASA
program is not a good plan. John Logsdon also wrote an article for The New York Times Room for
Debate called American Patrimony. His article is more focused on how it will be a loss of
patriotism to end manned spaceflightin the United States. Both Shostak and Logsdon agree that
manned space travel should continue, but Shostak s rhetoric is more effective because his
argument is well organized and credible, he ties in his readers emotions efficiently, and he logically
explains his beliefs.
In Shostak s article he portrays himself as a credible source, which makes his ethos appeal
successful. Shostak makes many attempts to make his article trustworthy, some of which actually
diminish his ethos. One way the writer seeks to obtain credibility is through the structure of the
article. He arranged his piece in a very organized way that states the points thoroughly and with
confidence, which portrays him as a knowledgeable source. Another way he gains credibility is
through the language and dialect he incorporates. He includes words such as autonomous rovers
and anachronism which indicates his piece is aimed at an

New York Times Scandal
The New York Times begins by stating that As an independent counsel issued a fresh wave of White
House subpoenas, President Clinton today denied accusations of having had a sexual affair with a
21 year old White House intern and promised to cooperate with prosecutors investigating whether
the President obstructed justice and sought to have the reported liaison covered up (Clines and
Gerth 1). Although the statement is true, minuscule bias can already be detected. By including the
age of the intern, mentioning that the President may have obstructed justice, and implying a
coverup, the New York Times seems to deem the President as a guilty party. Throughout the article,
different parties are discussed and analyzed in their role in the scandal. Certain parties are treated
differently in terms of tone and diction. This raises red flags, but, still, the information important to
the situation is included. In terms of credibility, however, the article posses... Show more content on

CONGRESS RETURNS TO A SHADOW CAST BY IMPEACHMENT. The New York Times,
The New York Times, 3 Jan. 1999, www.nytimes.com/1999/01/04/us/congress returns to a shadow
cast by impeachment.html.): The New York Times opens by stating that President Clinton should
postpone his State of the Union Message if the Senate was still grappling with an impeachment
trial when he is scheduled to appear before a joint session of Congress on Jan. 19 (Mitchell 1).
Although this seems to be opinionated, the Times cited multiple sources and had copious reasons to
make that assertion. As the article progresses, Mitchell, the author, delves into the difficulty of
continuing governmental duties while the weight of an investigation hinders the efficiency. No bias
against any one person or party is included in the article, yet the author himself has his own
interpretation on the situation at hand. The left leaning nature of the Times seems to be absent in
this report as no political bias is

related to firearms like mass killing, assault and homicide were increasing in a tremendous way.
Regarding the safety of citizens, many nation have framed the gun control law in order to prevent
the gun related crimes. Just like other nation, United State has also passed out Second Amendment

Zootopia Analysis
Would you consider women, immigrants, minority groups, and other second class citizens to have
yet been accepted as equal members of American society? Although the friction between the
dominant group and minority groups has diminished, discrimination continues to exist. Whether it
be ignorance, fear, or plain bigotry, rejection and feelings of disgust for these second class people
emerge. Like the movie, Zootopia, demonstrates, prejudistic individuals set psychological barriers
between themselves and those considered menacing, undesirable, or lacking the appropriate
appearance in a particular society. There are several different ways to digest and interpret the
multiple messages that can be extracted from the movie. However, the most significant of the
possible arguments is the addressal of the divisive and regressive mentalities the people in
American society currently have and live according to.
The implementation of gender role stereotypes was the first indication of the regressive like
thinking the movie later emphasizes. Throughout the entirety of the film, repetitive scenes, which
demonstrate the protagonist, Judy Hopps, as determined yet underappreciated, stress on the
notion of women being stigmatized because of their ascribed social status. For instance, during
the initial scenes, Judy performs a childish play alongside her peers. Although childish, the moral
of the play suggests that anyone, regardless of who you are, can become whom they aspire to be
through diligence and self confidence. While the males in the play were applauded for aspiring to
become either an actuary or an astronaut someday, Judy was ridiculed for sharing her ambitious
dream of becoming a police officer. Because of her questionable skills and having the scrawny
physique a women typically has, agents of society, namely her parents and acquaintances, oppressed
her undaunting will for success.
Judy progressed and realized her dream. Nevertheless, the more people Judy encountered, the more
humiliation she received. In their eyes, Judy was unfit to meet the standards the masculine
occupation demanded of. Her unjust path to success clearly correlates to the path many women are
currently enduring. It s that injustice that obstructs

Abstinence Research
During the 20th century, American society faced plights relating to human sexuality like the HIV
crisis (1968) and the enormous teenage pregnancy rate in 1990 s. In this era, technological
developments made in contraception led to colossal advancement in the quest for finding solutions
to the previously mentioned problems. The results of these advancements came in the form of the
contraception pill approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 1957 and the
development of the latex condom in 1920.
There has been much debate about the best method to approach complications related to sexual
health. The oldest and most widely used method is the abstinence program in high schools. This
program is legally defined (Section 510 of the Social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The researchers used a categorization for the U.S. states of three levels of the only abstinence
program (Stanger Hall Hall 2011), where the level three is the firmly use of this educational
program whereas the level zero is where this program is barely used in high schools.
In this study also supports the argument from the other article (GreslГ© Favier 2013) where the
states classified as level three states are the generally denominated conservative states otherwise
classified as liberal states. This comprehensive study (2013) found that in those level three
federation the teenage pregnancy rates are even higher than in the level zero ones. This can serve as
a strong example that support the idea that the abstinence only programs are not effective in the
reduction of the pregnancy

The first fitness activity I have participated in is basketball. The energy pathway I have chosen for
this activity is the ATP CP system. For this, the action of trying dunk the ball into the basket is
what relates to this system the most. The ATP CP system is one of the three energy pathways. The
ATP CP system is mostly activated when short and quick bursts of energy
are released from the body.
ATP stands for adenosine triphosphateand CP stands for creatine phosphate. CP is used to
reactivate ATP, but this process is quite short lived. This is why this relates to the fast action of

Today is my 16th birthday the time, I am suppose to find my mate, fall in love, and live happily
ever after. But its not going to happen, because I spend most of my time locked in the cellar of
Alpha s basement. I am the omega of the pack. I ran away from my old pack when I was nine

Omega everybody beat up on.
I remember hearing story from my parents as a little kid talking about mates, how they loved
each other unconditionally and were each other life. But I will never find that because I am
trapped I am this cell locked up until the pack feels like hurting me or I need to do their chores. I

I close my eyes and breath in the scent Mate I heard my wolf Chloe say before shrinking back in

Resilience Is An Aspect Of Health
Resilience in People Approaching the End of Their Lives
Introduction
Resilience reflects the ability of someone to maintain a stable equilibrium(1), that is to retain a
sense of identity or self(2), when dealing with adversity or misfortune. Highly resilient individuals
are capable of coping with unexpected challenges, and may have a number of mechanisms or
strategies to help them do so. Resilience is an aspect of health that is becoming increasingly
recognised in medicine(3), as having resilience enables self care and self healing, which is
beneficial in multiple ways. By being actively involved in his or her own wellbeing, a patient is
likely to have better outcomes(3). In addition, healthcare resources are conserved, allowing
them to be used to help a patient with less resilience. Although the importance of resilience in
carers of the ill cannot be understated, in this essay I will primarily focus on resilience in
patients approaching end of life, as there is a great deal for them to go through, all the way from
diagnosis to death. The concept of resilience itself is something we are all familiar with in one
way or another. I experienced seeing resilience being tested firsthand from watching my parents
deal with my father s cancer diagnosis, treatment and eventual passing all in the span of just over
a year. On one of my GP home visits I was quite affected by talking to Mr A, an elderly man with
COPD who was living with his wife, who had dementia. I will look at the

Jurisdiction
Jurisdiction, who gets what?

Abstract
Who gets what when it comes to jurisdiction, how do you tell if it s a state matter or a federal
matter? Whether state or federal there are strict jurisdictions that both state and federal has to
follow. From subject and personal jurisdiction, to the three types of personal jurisdiction. Each
court has set boundaries that govern their rights. Without these rights there would be no subject
matter. No one would go to the appreciate courts or have the correct measures to even known
which court they are supposed to go to. But weather federal or state jurisdiction is going to take
part in each case.

Criminal cases, personal jurisdiction refers to a courts authority to try a defendant for violating
the state s criminal law. Personal also deals with traditional crimes against a person such as
assault, rape, or murder. (Fradella amp; Neubauer, 2011 p. 61) A major advantage that courts take
in personal jurisdiction is the long arms statute. This statute allows any court to reach out over
long distances and obtain jurisdiction over anyone who is not present in the claim. An example of
this was used in the Hanson v. Denckla case where the defendant purposely invokes its self from
the protection of the state. So the courts use the long distance statute . There are many reasons to
use personal jurisdiction when it comes to the courts and there are three types of these
jurisdictions. (Farlex, personal Jurisdiction) The three types of jurisdiction are In Rem which is
the courts power to adjudicate rights of all persons with respects to a particular item of property.
The second is In personum which is simply personal jurisdiction, this jurisdiction has power over
the person of a particular defendant. Lastly there s Quasi in Rem which is the court has power to
determine whether particular individuals own specific property within the courts control. Courts
can adjudicate disputes other than ownership based upon the presence of the defendant s property

Sociological Theory
INTRODUCTION TO SOCIOLOGICAL THEORY
Compare and contrast the views of three appropriate sociological perspectives to an area of
social life of your choosing. Why do we act the way we do? Does the mass media really affect
the way a people in a society behave? Sociologists focus on the environment and the social
aspects of human behaviour in order to answer questions like these when studying a particular
society. A society is defined as a large social group that shares the same geographical territory and
is governed by the same political authority and cultural expectations. Culture is defined as the
shared values of a society such as language, beliefs and ways of doing things (Burton, 2013,
online). When looking at a society there are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Functionalism was introduced by Emile Durkheim (1858 1917), who is considered by many
intellectual thinkers to be the founder of modern sociology. The main principle of functionalism is
that each part of a society is interdependent and contributes towards making society work as a
whole. Each of these parts has to be working correctly but if something does go wrong then society
has mechanisms to deal with them, such as the police and the legal system. Functionalists also
believe that every social institution has many important functions to perform (Burton, 2013,
online). Durkheim introduced the theory anomie , or lack of social norms , that could cause
instability or chaos. This concept bought to light many instances that could affect a society in a
negative way and especially the behaviour of individuals towards one another (Emile Durkheim
org, 2013, online). Another concept put forward by Durkheim the sum of all of its parts is larger
than the whole , defined at the introduction of the structural/functionalist theory, is as relevant
today as it was when first introduced (Gamble, 2008, Online). Robert K. Merton (1910 2003) is
one example of how Durkheim s theories have lasted through the ages because his theory of
anomie was taken directly from Durkheim s perspective and still remains a major theory in the
structure of society, both in criminal justice and sociology (cited in

There are lots of threats from the environment and from humans. Here are some of the many
threats and some fun facts. The first threat is unsustainable fishing, it is the largest ocean threat.
90% of the world s fisheries are already overfished, while other unwanted animals die needlessly
each year. The second threat is pollution, over 80% of marine pollution comes from land based
activity. Oil spills, fertilizers, seas of garbage, sewage disposal, and toxic chemicals can cause
pollution. The third threat is shipping, substandard ships and poor shipping practices are
leading to massive marine pollution, and damage. The last threat is climate change. The key
impacts of climate change are coral bleaching, stormy weather, moving homes, rising sea levels,
acidic oceans, altered lifestyles, and decreased mixing. Now here are some fun facts, or
environmental factors. The marine biome is the biggest biome in the world, it covers 70% of
the Earth, and accounts for 90% of the world s water supply. The ocean biome is considered to
be the oldest of all biomes, humans have only explored about 10% of the ocean biome. The
oceans are normally very salty, there is about one cup of salt for every gallon of water in the
ocean. At 36,200 feet deep, the Mariana Trench is the deepest part of the ocean biome, oceans
contain nearly 20 million pounds of gold. There is a semi light part of the ocean called the twilight

method could be used in a more accurate representation of video data. She not only viewed this as a
potential breakthrough for commercial television, but also an opportunity for NASA and its image
delivery system.
After a year of working with her process, Thomas applied for a patent on December 28,
1978, and the patent was issued on October 21, 1980. This innovation was like the method of
holographic generation of picture recording which utilizes rational radiation and utilizes front

utilization of an inward reflect close to the subject and a second curved reflect at a remote site. In
the depiction of her patent, the procedure was clarified: Optical illusions may be produced by
parabolic mirrors wherein such images produced thereby are possessed with three dimensional
attributes. The optical effect may be explained by the fact that the human eyes see an object

you sleep all day and have fun all night. Know what I know now I understand the importance of
college and I think of it a little differently than before. I know that I need to work hard and study
hard to be able to succeed at my fullest potential in college. I have had a few experiences in my
life that have helped me realize that I need to work hard to get the output which I was hoping for

month of grueling and time consuming physical therapy to make it so I could use my shoulder

years ago. I was in middle school so I knew enough to understand that it was a very serious and
scary thing which not all people can defeat. I had a very frightening realization that he could die

Managing Human Relations
Definition of Human Relations In our business world today, people who enter the workforce are
discovering that interpersonal skills represent a very important category of basic skills valued by
employers.
These skills can also help us to cope with a wide range of work life issues and conflicts that
surface in our lives. Besides that, these skills will also help us in areas such as interviewing to get a
job in the future, improving our personal communication skills and building and thus maintaining
productive relationships with others in the workplace. These skills lead to a term which is known
as human relations. Human relations is defined in its broadest sense which covers all types of
interactions among people. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the reasons is because organizations are advancing more to the age of
Information Technology (IT) and many things in the world nowadays are done by machines
and requires a minimal amount of manpower. This will lessen the job opportunities and even
those who have worked in the particular workplace will be forced to resign or quit their
respective jobs. As an effect of this, many organizations will shortlist those workers who are
performing at a full pace and achieving more goals than others to remain in the company and
then hand in a resignation letter for those workers who are underperforming or those who failed
to achieve their goals. In order to tackle this issue, many companies nowadays spend most of their
time to train their employees so that they could be better workers and would help the company to
achieve more success in the future. When the company trains their employees, the employees are
expected to understand on what is required of them during the day at work. Employees are also
required to continuously build relationships with their employers or managers of the company and
also learn to accept the other employees which are working together with them. In addition,
another major reason on why human relations is important in workplaces is because most
companies are growing bigger and bigger compared to few years back. Many large companies

Mindfulness Meditation And Its Psychological Effects Essay
Mindfulness Meditation and its Psychological Effects Almost everyone is preoccupied with
happiness but yet the population seems to be increasingly unhappy. As society and human
experience changes we can t help but ask ourselves how can we fix an increasingly unhappy and
dissatisfied society? Mindfulness meditation is a progressively popular solution to this issue.
Mindfulness meditation stems from Buddhist tradition and is a practice that includes focusing one
s attention. Does mindfulness meditation have real psychological effects? And if so can they help
improve quality of life? Many studies have been conducted proving that mindfulness meditation
does have real psychological effects and can help individuals live a more meaningful and happy life.
This can be proven through research related to neuroscience, depression and happiness. To
understand the effects of mindfulness meditation we first must understand how it is practiced and
what the purpose of this practice is. Throughout my research I have found many definitions of
mindfulness meditation. Three of which I found to be helpful when understanding the research
conducted on the psychological effects of mindfulness meditation. One article described it as

The Pros And Cons Of Biblical Predestination
Throughout time biblical scriptures have been interpreted differently by different religions, scholar
s, and languages. Many theologians have provided different interpretations based off their mentors
and time they lived. Using works from the Sacra Pagina Series, Norton Bible scriptures, and
excerpts from Matthew, Mark, Luke, and teaching of John Calvinthis essay will show the vast
differences of interpretations in just one biblical scripture let alone throughout the entire bibleand its
many interpretations. Luke 13:23 24 reads Someone asked him, Lord, are only a few people
going to be saved? He said to them, strive to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell
you, will try to enter and will not be able to. (The King James Bible). Very early in our Christian
experiences we are taught that God is a saving and merciful God, however, some theologians
such as John Calvin believed that God predestined all mankind. They are either predestined to
heaven or hell. One of theologians John Calvin benchmark verses was Luke 13:23. He used this
verse to show that our God is not a saving God, but indeed a selective God. According to John

Examples Of Propaganda In 1984
A person can live their whole lifetime without questioning what could truly rules over their life.
Whenever it may be an underlying truth or an invisible force, people can live without ever
knowing what controls their fate. As for mega corporations or government intervention who act
like these hidden forces, their use propaganda and creating false facades to trick the public in a life
of safe living. Propaganda and secret governmentorganizations are a common theme seen in various
dystopian fictions such as 1984, We, and the Fallout video game series.
Propaganda might not be enough for citizens within a dystopia, but secret government services can
play in the shadows to enforce their ideals. Within 1984, directed by Michael Radford, Winston...

Black Tailed Prairie Dogs Summary
This article describes the black tailed prairie dogs (Cynomys Ludovocianus) and their coteries.
Coteries are polygynous social groups that black tailed prairie dogs live in (Hoogland 1983). In
these groups, the one adult male reproduces with genetically similar females. The main purpose
of this article is for the author (John L. Hoogland) to communicate and defend his earlier work on
prairie dogs. These prairie dogs exist where some females and pups, within the coteries, do not
breed (Hoogland 1983). Moreover, black tailed prairie dogs behave parentally towards non
offspring (Hoogland 1983). In addition, Hoogland classifies black tailed prairie dogs as cooperative
breeders; however, they do not help breeders to the same degree as cooperative breeding birds

Thus, there is no evidence shown that support Hoogland original prediction (stated in the former
paragraph). Michener and Murie (1983) also argue that Hoogland s grounded assumption is on
outdated information. Hoogland refutes Michener and Murie (1983) argument by stating that
the direct relationship between helper size and long term reproductive success of females is an
assumption; thus, it should not solely decide if black tailed prairie dogs are cooperative
breeders (Hoogland 1983). I find Hoogland s last argument inadequate because he creates a
prediction based off statistics that do not support black tailed prairie dogs having an increased
success from having more helpers. Although it is acceptable, it does not support his argument;
and, consequently, taken advantage of by fellow researchers. The determination if black tailed
prairie dogs are cooperative breeders needs further research on the females long term reproductive
success. These are only a few of the examples that occur in this

Changing Lanes
Changing Lanes: Philosophical Analysis When people become stressed to the max, bad things
can happen. This is especially true when the people cross paths on a highway and have an
accident. This is what happened in the movie, Changing Lanes. A wealthy man on his way to a
probate court hearing, Gavin Banek, has a wreck with a recovering alcoholic, Doyle Gipson,
who is also on his way to court in order to keep his family together. Banek proceeds to leave the
scene of the accident and leaves Gipson stranded on the highway who then misses his court
hearing. Banek forgets an important file at the accident site which puts him at risk of going to

when he was dying. When Banek calls out Delano, Delano proceeds to tell Banek on how he can
live with himself. Delano says that he does more good than harm and that he helps more people
than hurts. This is an example of a utilitarian way of thinking because even though he is a cut
throat businessman and hurts many people he helps more through his business, the greatest
amount of good for the greatest number of people. In the film there was also an example of
characters violating one of the libertarian principles. This example was when Banek illegally
bankrupted Gipson in order to try to obtain the file. Gipson had no control over what happened to
him he was helpless in the matter. Banek violated Gipson s right to be left alone to live the way he

Banek violated his rights as he took away Gipson s ability to live in such a way that would allow

Religion Is A Form Of Government
Democracy is a form of government, where a constitution guarantees basic personal and political
rights, fair and free elections, and independent courts of law. (Democracy 2004). Religion and
politics have been long viewed as partners for many and yet some find the relationship a struggle.
Religion usually pertains to an individual or a community of like minded members in the private
sector. An example of such a body of individuals includes church or social organizations. As part of
Western civilization, Americans typically embraced the separation of church and state as they
believe that religionhas no place in politics at all. Politics usually apply to the public sector where

How do they impact each other?
According to Wikipedia 2014, Religion is an organized collection of beliefs, cultural systems, and
world views that relate humanity to an order of existence. It is also the most intensive and
comprehensive method of valuing that is experienced by humankind . Religion is often difficult to
identify or define because it overlaps on many different boundaries in human experience. This
complex phenomenon has led many theorists to attempt to form a cohesive definition, however,
every theory has its limitations thus making this task utterly impossible to complete. Religion can
also resolve matters on the private and public sector such as issues regarding life and death, love
and sex, authority and freedom. Although religious traditions often challenge each other, they also
offer individuals with a sense of security and direction. It can also dictate those who are in power
versus those who are not, and often provides validation for imbalances in social, economic, and
political power, as well as structure for advancement and revolutionary change.
According to Fairlax 2014, Politics is the art or science of government or governing, especially the
governing of a political entity, such as a nation, and the administration and control of its internal

Factors in the Development of Swing
Around the turn of the nineteenth century, new musical forms such as ragtime and jazz saw
development in urbanized areas particularly through the influence of the African American
community. These contemporary genres compelled the evolution of dance toward expression that
was more exuberant with exaggerated body movements (Edmondson). By the 1920s, this led to the
creation of the Charleston and the Lindy Hop, the direct predecessors to Swing. In particular, the
Savoy Ballroom, opened in 1926 in New York, was central to this development because there
dancers soon incorporated tap and jazz steps into their dancing, led by individuals such as Benny
Goodman and Herbert White (Heikkila). The East Coast Swing, often associated with the Jitterbug,
Lindy, and Triple Swing, was a redefinition of the Lindy Hop as the characteristic eight count step
was simplified to a six step swing during the 1940s. Much of the formalization of this dancewas
performed by the Arthur Murray dance studios which began to teach Swing, thus introducing an
otherwise wild street dance to the ballroom dance community. Meanwhile, Dean Collins introduced
Swing to California and, though he did not explicitly invent West Coast Swing, was influential in
its popularity and stylistic development through his smooth and anchored style of dancing swing
which became imported into Hollywood s own portrayal of the dance (Powers). Originally named
Western Swing, the name was changed in 1959 to West Coast

What Is A Restaurant Planning
Production Needs Milestone 2 The part of opening a new restaurant location is choosing the
location so that the plans can be drawn up. I decided that using an existing building is the best
option for both price and time. By utilizing an existing building, the permits will be cheaper since
most tenant improvements don t require permits. If the location previously was a restaurant, then
the kitchen will already have gas ran into it. With the location decided we can bring in the architect
to draw up the building plans and get them submitted for permits. This should take 1 to 6 months
depending on how busy the architect and permitting office is. Once you have the building permits
the contractor can begin construction. According to Aaron Allen... Show more content on

Lean Management
In the production of a restaurant the first lean management principal of finding what creates value
for the customer (Russell Taylor, 2016), can be applied during the concept of the restaurant. By
determining what is valuable you can plan around it. If you determine that the guests come to the
restaurant for the quality of food and great service, then we can develop a menu that meets or
exceeds expectations. The sequence of activities would be the chefs in the kitchen preparing the
food for the guests to enjoy while the server tends to the guest s immediate needs such as taking
their drink order and filling it for them. The server might also be asked for suggestions of wines
to pair with the meal they just ordered. The third is the process of identifying waste in the value
stream and removing it. In the construction of the building the designer will need to look at the
flow of traffic and see if there is anything that can be done to reduce wasteful tasks (Russell
Taylor, 2016). This includes considering how many steps it takes to get something out of the
fridge or how far the chef needs to go to get a mixing bowl or tools. The cooks and servers must
also pay attention to these as well to minimize waste. The designer should also pay attention to
green technology available to them in the design phase. This is

Real Estate Investing Goals
When it comes to investing goals, setting them is the easy part; its reaching them that can get a bit
complicated and challenging. What looks feasible on paper can seem insurmountable in real life
when obstacles present themselves. Overcoming these obstacles and keeping your goals at the
forefront of every investing decision that you make is key to moving up the real estate investing
ladder and building residual income.
The number one thing that can distract you from your goals is discouragement. In the world of
investments, particularly those involving real estate, nothing goes quite as planned and there is
always some element of risk. A miscalculation of costs or an unplanned emergency repair can set
you back thousands of dollars. If you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Here are a few tips that you can try for yourself: Break large, long term goals up into smaller,
short term goals. Short term goals don t seem as impossible or as overwhelming as long term
goals and are easier to attain. Meeting short term goals also motivates you to keep moving forward
as you can track your progress with each milestone met.
Display a list of your goals in a spot that you will see them and be reminded of them often. In a
hectic world, its easy to lose sight of plans that you have made, but by constantly reminding
yourself of the goals that you have set, you will be able to keep them at the foundation of all of
your decisions.
Re evaluate your goals often. The real estate investing market changes constantly and you have to
be ready to change with it. A stale goal strategy will only put you further and further behind your
competition. Be ready to change with the market and adjust your goals accordingly.
Consistently meeting goals requires consistency on your part. Begin each day by asking yourself
what can be done that day to help you reach your goals. And don t be discouraged by progress
that doesn t seem to be moving along as well as you would like it to. Any victory, no matter how
small, brings you one step closer to realizing your ultimate investing

Criminal Behavior And Strict Liability
When studying criminal behavior and strict liability, exploring the possible causations that may
contribute to criminal behavior is important. Examining family backgrounds, genetic make ups
and parenting are some factors that influence criminal behavior. Understand the possible risk
factors of criminal behavior helps us to better understand why people commit crimes. This paper
will attempt to critically analyze two articles on the concept of criminal behavior and law as it
pertains to strict liability. Criminal Conduct In the early 1960 s the movement of the Model
Penal Code transformed American criminal law by the American Law Institute. The MPC seek
to bring analytical clarity to the definition and interpretation of criminal statutes that were

Criminal conduct can be defined as conduct of an offender that leads to and including a
commission of an unlawful act (USLEGAL, n.d.) A recent current event that is a prime example
of criminal behavior or criminal conduct is the tragedy that occurred at Smith Mountain Lake in
Virginia. A former disgruntled employee, Vester Lee Flanagan aka Bryce Williams opened fire

The Soviet Union hope to attain the New Soviet Man , but in their attempts only made their state
situation much more dreadful by causing severe fragmentation within several ethnic groups,

Union applied more tension, made their situation only worse. The Soviet Union became such a
fragmented Union that Gorbachev could no longer control the power of the population and was
forced to resign, and hence the fall of the Soviet Union. Political and Ethnic fragmentation
contributed to the disintegration of the Soviet Union by causing division in leadership, This
division within the Soviet leadership weakened its ability to respond to centrifugal forces and
contributed to the central authorities erratic response to them (Hunter et.al, 212), as well as prove

Essay On The Subconscious And Subhuman Temper In Wuthering...
The Subconscious and Subhuman Temper
In Young Goodman Brown , Wuthering Heights, and Hamlet, subconscious and subhuman
tendencies indicate the detrimental tolls of obsession inflicted upon the main character. Dreams
symbolize the onset of an obsession and imply that the seemingly harmless nightmares we
experience may be more than merely a bad dream and instead serve as an indicator of the
deterioration of our mental stability. Animalistic vocabulary dehumanizes and reduces characters to
a more primitive form causing readers to question their understanding of what it truly means to be
human. Ultimately, this corruption of the mind leads to undesirable thoughts and seemingly

The Physical And Spiritual Restoration Essay
The book of Nehemiah is about the physical and spiritual restoration in Jerusalem. Nehemiah is
viewed as one of the great leaders in the Old Testament. He led a group of Jews to rebuild the walls
in Jerusalem. He shows his leadership through his prayers, sensitivity, boldness, and many other
characteristics.
In his prayers, Nehemiah shared his burden and responsibility with God whenever he was faced
with trouble, and in the end God answered his prayers. Nehemiah 4:4 Hear us, our God, for we
are despised. Turn their insults back on their own heads. Give them over as plunder in a land of
captivity. Prayer is a way that a godly leader allows God to strengthen him and guide his steps. A
godly leader looks and relies on God for strength and direction. In Nehemiah 1:5 11 His heart for
the city led him to pray to God in confession, praise, and for others. Then I said: Lord, the God of
heaven, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with those who love him
and keep his commandments, let your ear be attentive and your eyes open to hear the prayer
your servant is praying before you day and night for your servants, the people of Israel. I confess

Gapdh Lab Report
Abstract
Affinity purification is a powerful method of isolating a protein of interest from a complex
mixture of proteins. the aim of this experiment was to isolate the enzyme GAPDH from a complex
mixture of proteins, in this case yeast lysate. in order to achieve this, a range of methods were used
such as protein, GAPDH activity and ADH assays, SDS PAGE and imumunodetection of ADH and
GAPDH on western blot. The results showed that the isolation of GAPDH was achieved albeit,
extremely with the % recoveries of the elution being abnormally high due to abnormally low initial
material values. The results suggested overall that isolation GAPDH from yeast lysate using
affinity purification is in fact a somewhat effective method.
Methods

It was especially high in elution 1 and 2 who had values of 527% and 514% respectively,
indicating a high GAPDH activity especially elution 1. This is supported by the fact that elution 1
had the highest specific activity with a value of 0.0017 umoles/min/mg. it is however difficult to
see in figure 2, with the number of bands being seemingly lower than there should be.
The SDS PAGE Electrophoresis (figure 1) contained different samples of the yeast lysate. From the
gel the bands are clear and distinct with the YNSMY YNFT having the thickest and most distinct of
columns making the cibracon blue an efficient tool for affinity chromatography. The protein
concentration from YNSM to YNW4 fluctuated with a general decreasing trend however the gel
does not distinctively show this.
Limitations
The % protein recovery from the ADH assay was 556%, which could be due to a dilution error,
most likely that the initial material had abnormally low values. It was expected that elution 3
(YNE3) would have the lowest activity in GAPDH, from table 2 it is clear that it had the highest
specific activity but the lowest total activity and thus the lowest % protein recovery.
Overall, the results suggest that, this was somewhat of an effective method in isolation the enzyme

Description and Reflection of Dallas Museum The Dallas Museum is a renowned art museum
established in 1903 and is located in Dallas, Texas (Neumann et al. 19). The Dallas Museum of art
is one of the largest art museums in the United States of America containing more than 24,000

numerous things inside the museum, such as the pieces of art, museum visitors, and the architecture,
that relate to the understanding of the world outside the museum in terms of the day to day life and
the human society. My goal in this essay is to think outside the box and describe the observations
I made inside the museum and explain how they relate to my everyday life, the wider world, or
the human society. The painting work done by C. Bertram Hartman was the first piece of art I
observed inside the Dallas Museum. This painting, completed in 1930, consists of a campanile

The Loss Of Evil In William Golding s Lord Of The Flies
As the cynical philosopher Thomas Hobbes postulated, all humans possess an innate wickedness
that will provoke chaos in a state of nature. This philosophy can be applied to the boys looming
barbarity depicted in William Golding s Lord of the Flies, as their savagery aggrandizes overtime
in their island that was once a paradise a natural environment without civilization and supervision.
The boys eventually come to the point of destroying one another as well as nature, and these
occurrences are epitomized by scars. In this novel, scars symbolize the wayward savagery of the
boys that emerges ever since their arrival, the violence of nature that responds to their lack of
civility, and the loss of innocence due to the inherent evils of humans.
The scars illustrated throughout the novel connect the violence from the boys to reality, depicting
the permanent blight mankind has brought upon the island and the capacity humans posses to
become savage. After the plane crashes, Ralph wanders about and observes that All round him the
long scar smashed into the jungle was a beat of it. He was clambering heavily among the
creepers and broken trunks when a bird, a vision of red and yellow, flashing upwards with a
witch like cry (7). The island full of birds and lush jungles was a blank slate, as it was once
unscathed by the evils of humanity; however, the plane crash introduces an unsightly scar on the
island that will never disappear as scars never heal completely. This scar reflects

The play Pygmalion describes the process of the transformation of Eliza, who appears in three

Benefits Of Self Storage For Home Owners
There are many reasons home owners and business owners make use of self storage facilities. Self
storage offers numerous benefits and in this article, I will talk about some of the main benefits of
using self storage facilities.
Benefits Of Self Storage For Home Owners
Hoarding when we have the desire to hold on to things, we want to create some space for those
things so we can use them later on in our lives. Many people have this fear of throwing things
which they think may be useful for them in the future. There are numerous examples of people in
the self storage industry of renting a storage space which they can use to collect items which they
cannot store in their homes anymore. In most families, hoarding can cause a real problem because
it creates an actual reduction in the living space. When we make use of self storage facilities, we
can clear that space in our homes and at the same time retain those items.
Reduce Clutter whether it is home or office, storage space can help reduce clutter and free up the
much needed space.
Security there is more security offered by self storage facilities than we can find in homes. Apart

  • 2. The Heart Lab Report In this lab, the students observed the rate and rhythm and how it fluctuates when an individual is relaxed, in a seated position, and after exercising. The Heart is a hollow muscular organ that is cone shaped and it is located in the mediastinum in between the lungs (The Heart, Slide 3 2016). The heart is separated into two main divisions, the pulmonary circuit and the systemic circuit. The pulmonary circuit helps carry bloodto the lungs from the heartfor gas exchange and it is located in the right side of the heart. In the pulmonary circuit the heart fills with blood in the right atrium then it passes through the right atrioventricular valve which then leads to the right ventricle. Once it is in the right ventricle, the right ventricle contracts which opens the pulmonary valves. After this blood flows from the pulmonary valve to the pulmonary trunk which then distributes it into the right and left pulmonary arteries that supply the lungs where it deposits oxygenated blood.... Finally, the carbon dioxide rich blood returns itself to the heart for the process to reoccur again. Both circuits must always maintain circulation so that blood can be constantly disbursed throughout the body (The Heart, Slide 11 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I was among a group of students lucky enough to wear the Texas 4000 for Cancer jersey and devote a summer to pedaling for a cause. Like with many other premed students, signs that showed how interested I was in medicine were apparent since before I can remember, but everything from my summer trip validated further every desire I had to join the medical field as a doctor. At the age of ten I was confident I wanted to spend the rest of my life getting back at the disease that took my grandmother away a decision that led me as a freshman in college to a drug design and biological recognition research lab. I joined the lab as a way to help others by studying infectious diseases, but I sought out a way to make a more personal and unique impact on others Texas 4000. The 70 day ride of spreading hope, knowledge, and charity took 18 months of physical and mental preparation, leadership development, volunteering around the community, fundraising for cancer research and support groups, and significantly less time for studying, but it certainly paid off. Although there were times when I wanted to give in to people s doubts about me training for and completing summer ride, I pushed through every cramp in my shoulders, every cut on my legs, and every day of the cold Canadian rain I wish I could ve skipped biking was the only option, and it was what I had promised to do. I initially joined to honor ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Analysis Of The Article Why Hominids And Space Go... Manned spaceflight is a crucial argument in society. Two writers, Seth Shostak and John Logsdon, both believe that America is making a mistake by ending manned space exploration. Seth Shostak is the author of the article Why Hominids and Space Go Together in The New York Times Room for Debate; his article is about how President Obama s new vision for the NASA program is not a good plan. John Logsdon also wrote an article for The New York Times Room for Debate called American Patrimony. His article is more focused on how it will be a loss of patriotism to end manned spaceflightin the United States. Both Shostak and Logsdon agree that manned space travel should continue, but Shostak s rhetoric is more effective because his argument is well organized and credible, he ties in his readers emotions efficiently, and he logically explains his beliefs. In Shostak s article he portrays himself as a credible source, which makes his ethos appeal successful. Shostak makes many attempts to make his article trustworthy, some of which actually diminish his ethos. One way the writer seeks to obtain credibility is through the structure of the article. • 5. New York Times Scandal The New York Times begins by stating that As an independent counsel issued a fresh wave of White House subpoenas, President Clinton today denied accusations of having had a sexual affair with a 21 year old White House intern and promised to cooperate with prosecutors investigating whether the President obstructed justice and sought to have the reported liaison covered up (Clines and Gerth 1). Although the statement is true, minuscule bias can already be detected. By including the age of the intern, mentioning that the President may have obstructed justice, and implying a coverup, the New York Times seems to deem the President as a guilty party. Throughout the article, different parties are discussed and analyzed in their role in the scandal. Certain parties are treated differently in terms of tone and diction. This raises red flags, but, still, the information important to the situation is included. In terms of credibility, however, the article posses... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 7. Zootopia Analysis Would you consider women, immigrants, minority groups, and other second class citizens to have yet been accepted as equal members of American society? Although the friction between the dominant group and minority groups has diminished, discrimination continues to exist. Whether it be ignorance, fear, or plain bigotry, rejection and feelings of disgust for these second class people emerge. Like the movie, Zootopia, demonstrates, prejudistic individuals set psychological barriers between themselves and those considered menacing, undesirable, or lacking the appropriate appearance in a particular society. There are several different ways to digest and interpret the multiple messages that can be extracted from the movie. However, the most significant of the possible arguments is the addressal of the divisive and regressive mentalities the people in American society currently have and live according to. The implementation of gender role stereotypes was the first indication of the regressive like thinking the movie later emphasizes. Throughout the entirety of the film, repetitive scenes, which demonstrate the protagonist, Judy Hopps, as determined yet underappreciated, stress on the notion of women being stigmatized because of their ascribed social status. For instance, during the initial scenes, Judy performs a childish play alongside her peers. Although childish, the moral of the play suggests that anyone, regardless of who you are, can become whom they aspire to be through diligence and self confidence. While the males in the play were applauded for aspiring to become either an actuary or an astronaut someday, Judy was ridiculed for sharing her ambitious dream of becoming a police officer. Because of her questionable skills and having the scrawny physique a women typically has, agents of society, namely her parents and acquaintances, oppressed her undaunting will for success. Judy progressed and realized her dream. Nevertheless, the more people Judy encountered, the more humiliation she received. In their eyes, Judy was unfit to meet the standards the masculine occupation demanded of. Her unjust path to success clearly correlates to the path many women are currently enduring. • 11. Resilience Is An Aspect Of Health Resilience in People Approaching the End of Their Lives Introduction Resilience reflects the ability of someone to maintain a stable equilibrium(1), that is to retain a sense of identity or self(2), when dealing with adversity or misfortune. Highly resilient individuals are capable of coping with unexpected challenges, and may have a number of mechanisms or strategies to help them do so. Resilience is an aspect of health that is becoming increasingly recognised in medicine(3), as having resilience enables self care and self healing, which is beneficial in multiple ways. By being actively involved in his or her own wellbeing, a patient is likely to have better outcomes(3). In addition, healthcare resources are conserved, allowing them to be used to help a patient with less resilience. Although the importance of resilience in carers of the ill cannot be understated, in this essay I will primarily focus on resilience in patients approaching end of life, as there is a great deal for them to go through, all the way from diagnosis to death. The concept of resilience itself is something we are all familiar with in one way or another. I experienced seeing resilience being tested firsthand from watching my parents deal with my father s cancer diagnosis, treatment and eventual passing all in the span of just over a year. Criminal cases, personal jurisdiction refers to a courts authority to try a defendant for violating the state s criminal law. Personal also deals with traditional crimes against a person such as assault, rape, or murder. (Fradella amp; Neubauer, 2011 p. 61) A major advantage that courts take in personal jurisdiction is the long arms statute. This statute allows any court to reach out over long distances and obtain jurisdiction over anyone who is not present in the claim. An example of this was used in the Hanson v. Denckla case where the defendant purposely invokes its self from the protection of the state. So the courts use the long distance statute . There are many reasons to use personal jurisdiction when it comes to the courts and there are three types of these jurisdictions. Why do we act the way we do? Does the mass media really affect the way a people in a society behave? Sociologists focus on the environment and the social aspects of human behaviour in order to answer questions like these when studying a particular society. A society is defined as a large social group that shares the same geographical territory and is governed by the same political authority and cultural expectations. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Functionalism was introduced by Emile Durkheim (1858 1917), who is considered by many intellectual thinkers to be the founder of modern sociology. The main principle of functionalism is that each part of a society is interdependent and contributes towards making society work as a whole. Each of these parts has to be working correctly but if something does go wrong then society has mechanisms to deal with them, such as the police and the legal system. Functionalists also believe that every social institution has many important functions to perform (Burton, 2013, online). Durkheim introduced the theory anomie , or lack of social norms , that could cause instability or chaos. This concept bought to light many instances that could affect a society in a negative way and especially the behaviour of individuals towards one another (Emile Durkheim org, 2013, online). Another concept put forward by Durkheim the sum of all of its parts is larger than the whole , defined at the introduction of the structural/functionalist theory, is as relevant today as it was when first introduced (Gamble, 2008, Online). Robert K. The main purpose of this article is for the author (John L. Hoogland) to communicate and defend his earlier work on prairie dogs. These prairie dogs exist where some females and pups, within the coteries, do not breed (Hoogland 1983). Moreover, black tailed prairie dogs behave parentally towards non offspring (Hoogland 1983). This complex phenomenon has led many theorists to attempt to form a cohesive definition, however, every theory has its limitations thus making this task utterly impossible to complete. Religion can also resolve matters on the private and public sector such as issues regarding life and death, love and sex, authority and freedom. Although religious traditions often challenge each other, they also offer individuals with a sense of security and direction. It can also dictate those who are in power versus those who are not, and often provides validation for imbalances in social, economic, and political power, as well as structure for advancement and revolutionary change. • 26. Factors in the Development of Swing Around the turn of the nineteenth century, new musical forms such as ragtime and jazz saw development in urbanized areas particularly through the influence of the African American community. These contemporary genres compelled the evolution of dance toward expression that was more exuberant with exaggerated body movements (Edmondson). By the 1920s, this led to the creation of the Charleston and the Lindy Hop, the direct predecessors to Swing. In particular, the Savoy Ballroom, opened in 1926 in New York, was central to this development because there dancers soon incorporated tap and jazz steps into their dancing, led by individuals such as Benny Goodman and Herbert White (Heikkila). The East Coast Swing, often associated with the Jitterbug, Lindy, and Triple Swing, was a redefinition of the Lindy Hop as the characteristic eight count step was simplified to a six step swing during the 1940s. Much of the formalization of this dancewas performed by the Arthur Murray dance studios which began to teach Swing, thus introducing an otherwise wild street dance to the ballroom dance community. Meanwhile, Dean Collins introduced Swing to California and, though he did not explicitly invent West Coast Swing, was influential in its popularity and stylistic development through his smooth and anchored style of dancing swing which became imported into Hollywood s own portrayal of the dance (Powers). Originally named Western Swing, the name was changed in 1959 to West Coast ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I decided that using an existing building is the best option for both price and time. By utilizing an existing building, the permits will be cheaper since most tenant improvements don t require permits. If the location previously was a restaurant, then the kitchen will already have gas ran into it. With the location decided we can bring in the architect to draw up the building plans and get them submitted for permits. This should take 1 to 6 months depending on how busy the architect and permitting office is. Once you have the building permits the contractor can begin construction. According to Aaron Allen... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Keller, 2017) Lean Management In the production of a restaurant the first lean management principal of finding what creates value for the customer (Russell Taylor, 2016), can be applied during the concept of the restaurant. By determining what is valuable you can plan around it. If you determine that the guests come to the restaurant for the quality of food and great service, then we can develop a menu that meets or exceeds expectations. The sequence of activities would be the chefs in the kitchen preparing the food for the guests to enjoy while the server tends to the guest s immediate needs such as taking their drink order and filling it for them. The server might also be asked for suggestions of wines to pair with the meal they just ordered. The third is the process of identifying waste in the value stream and removing it. In the construction of the building the designer will need to look at the flow of traffic and see if there is anything that can be done to reduce wasteful tasks (Russell Taylor, 2016). This includes considering how many steps it takes to get something out of the fridge or how far the chef needs to go to get a mixing bowl or tools. The cooks and servers must also pay attention to these as well to minimize waste. The designer should also pay attention to green technology available to them in the design phase. This is ... Display a list of your goals in a spot that you will see them and be reminded of them often. Examining family backgrounds, genetic make ups and parenting are some factors that influence criminal behavior. Understand the possible risk factors of criminal behavior helps us to better understand why people commit crimes. This paper will attempt to critically analyze two articles on the concept of criminal behavior and law as it pertains to strict liability. Criminal Conduct In the early 1960 s the movement of the Model Penal Code transformed American criminal law by the American Law Institute. The MPC seek to bring analytical clarity to the definition and interpretation of criminal statutes that were encrusted with ill defined law terms such as malice aforethought (Brown, 2012, p. 287). Catherine proceeds to say, I ve dreamt in my life dreams that have stayed with me ever after, and changed my ideas: they ve gone through me, like wine through water, and altered the colour of my mind (49). The simile used here, like wine through water, is symbolic of herself and her obsession. The water, pure and clean, is herself and the wine, addictive and manipulative, is her obsession. Nehemiah is viewed as one of the great leaders in the Old Testament. He led a group of Jews to rebuild the walls in Jerusalem. In his prayers, Nehemiah shared his burden and responsibility with God whenever he was faced with trouble, and in the end God answered his prayers. Nehemiah 4:4 Hear us, our God, for we are despised. A godly leader looks and relies on God for strength and direction. In Nehemiah 1:5 11 His heart for the city led him to pray to God in confession, praise, and for others. Then I said: Lord, the God of heaven, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with those who love him and keep his commandments, let your ear be attentive and your eyes open to hear the prayer your servant is praying before you day and night for your servants, the people of Israel. Gapdh Lab Report Abstract Affinity purification is a powerful method of isolating a protein of interest from a complex mixture of proteins. the aim of this experiment was to isolate the enzyme GAPDH from a complex mixture of proteins, in this case yeast lysate. in order to achieve this, a range of methods were used such as protein, GAPDH activity and ADH assays, SDS PAGE and imumunodetection of ADH and GAPDH on western blot. The results showed that the isolation of GAPDH was achieved albeit, extremely with the % recoveries of the elution being abnormally high due to abnormally low initial material values. The SDS PAGE Electrophoresis (figure 1) contained different samples of the yeast lysate. From the gel the bands are clear and distinct with the YNSMY YNFT having the thickest and most distinct of columns making the cibracon blue an efficient tool for affinity chromatography. The protein concentration from YNSM to YNW4 fluctuated with a general decreasing trend however the gel does not distinctively show this. The Dallas Museum of art is one of the largest art museums in the United States of America containing more than 24,000 collections of art ranging from the ancient to the modern ones (MacDonald Brettell 112). There are numerous things inside the museum, such as the pieces of art, museum visitors, and the architecture, that relate to the understanding of the world outside the museum in terms of the day to day life and the human society. The painting applies a fractured perspective blended on an urban look with muted color palettes accompanied by harsh shadows (MacDonald Brettell 117). • 37. The Loss Of Evil In William Golding s Lord Of The Flies As the cynical philosopher Thomas Hobbes postulated, all humans possess an innate wickedness that will provoke chaos in a state of nature. This philosophy can be applied to the boys looming barbarity depicted in William Golding s Lord of the Flies, as their savagery aggrandizes overtime in their island that was once a paradise a natural environment without civilization and supervision. The boys eventually come to the point of destroying one another as well as nature, and these occurrences are epitomized by scars. In this novel, scars symbolize the wayward savagery of the boys that emerges ever since their arrival, the violence of nature that responds to their lack of civility, and the loss of innocence due to the inherent evils of humans. The scars illustrated throughout the novel connect the violence from the boys to reality, depicting the permanent blight mankind has brought upon the island and the capacity humans posses to become savage. After the plane crashes, Ralph wanders about and observes that All round him the long scar smashed into the jungle was a beat of it. He was clambering heavily among the creepers and broken trunks when a bird, a vision of red and yellow, flashing upwards with a witch like cry (7).
