Wealth Of Nations By Adam Smith
In his book, Wealth of Nations, Adam Smith makes arguments to support free trade. These arguments range from having to do
with war, all the way to the structure of social classes. In order to assess the morality of these arguments, David Hume s
definition of morality and Kant s definition of morality can be used. These definitions, ultimately, serve as context for Smith s
arguments, so that there is a clearer idea of whether they are moral or not. From this, modern readers of Smith s book can better
determine the positive and negative qualities of Smith s idea of free trade. Kant s definition of morality contrasts with Hume s
definition. For Kant, morality is split into three categories, the analytic imperative, the hypothetical ... Show more content on

Smith writes that it is moral for society to have different levels of wealth based on talent and hard work. His feels that the lowest
people in a free trade society will still be better off than some top people in a non free trade society. He mentions how a collier
worker commonly earns double, and in many parts of Scotland, three times as much as common labor (Smith 1.8). In other
words, the possession of a skill causes the worker to make more, since, unlike a common laborer who can easily be swapped out,
a skilled laborer can only be swapped out with someone who possesses that particular skill. This discussion related to social class
would be agreeable to Hume s definition of morality. In particular, it fits into Hume s idea of using reason to determine whether
an action is moral or not. Since the worker who makes less than the skilled worker would still be able to support themselves,
Hume would feel that the situation is moral. Hume ultimately would argue that as long as the person, making less, is not
suffering, then the income difference is moral. Kant s definition of morality would also agree with Smith s discussion of social
classes. This is because this discussion in Smith s book, falls under the analytic imperative. In Kant s definition of morality, it
would be moral for people to make more because of a skill. This is because people would seek to acquire a skill, or talent if they
wanted to earn more based off of

The Pros And Cons Of Social Stereotypes
Stereotype threat is a social phenomenon where a member of a negatively stereotyped group performs poorly when reminded of
that stereotype (Beilock, Jellison, Rydell, McConnell, Carr, 2006). For example, previous studies have shown that when primed
with a negative stereotype African Americans perform worse on intellectual tasks (Steele, Aronson, 1995), and women perform
worse at math (Spencer, Steele, Quinn, 1999). The main component of stereotype threat is that it impairs working memory
(Schmader, Forbes, Johns, 2008). Working memory is a short term memory system that is involved in the control, regulation, and
active maintenance of a limited amount of information with immediate relevance to the task at hand (Miyake Shah, 1999). So
essentially as one works on a task, working memory keeps all the important information ready for quick access, which is crucial
for performance in almost every domain. Previous studies have shown that working memory capacity is a direct mediator
between stereotype threat and impaired mental performance (Schmader, Johns, 2003). At a cognitive level, working memory is a
limited capacity resource that can become depleted if it is attending to multiple domains. If depleted there is less capacity
available to control a task s execution and information processing demands (Schmader, Johns, 2003). Many different studies
have contested how it is that stereotype threat impairs performance. For example, in Steele and Aronson s

CASE STUDY
The internationalisation of Tesco new frontiers and new problems
Neil Wrigley, Michelle Lowe and Katherine Cudworth
Tesco s international expansion until 2010 had seemed like a complete success despite the odd hiccough. This case re examines
Tesco s internationalisation in the context of harsher economic conditions, using a comparison of its operations in South Korea
and the USA to draw out important strategic dimensions of the retail internationalisation process. It also explores the
organisational consequences of that process for the firm, particularly when it is perceived to threaten the home market
performance of the retailer.
●
In May 2013, Tesco, the UK s largest retailer and private sector employer of labour, announced annual sales for 2012 13 of £72
billion (~ $109bn ~ CSSbn),1 barely changed from the previous year. Profits were £3.4bn, down from £3.8 billion the year
before. For Philip Clarke, Tesco s CEO since 2011, this was his second set of disappointing annual results. Sales across Europe
were flat, and the company had had to decide at the end of 2012 to exit Tesco s business in the United States. The main source of
encouragement seemed to be Tesco s growing Asian business. Philip Clarke declared: Building an international business, even

The Opening of Baz Luhrman s Film Version of Romeo and Juliet
The Opening of Baz Luhrman s Film Version of Romeo and Juliet Franco Zeffirelli s 1969 version of Romeo and Juliet was
actually filmed on location in Verona and is set in the 15th century, when the story of Romeo and Juliet was meant to happen. Its
opening prologue is very plain and simple, there are just two long shots and the voiceovers voice speaks very slowly. The first
shot is a long shot of medieval Verona on a misty morning, the camera pans around to the river and tilts up and zooms in slowly
into the sun, the name William Shakespeare then appears below it this could signify that he is looking down over what is
happening in Verona. The second shot simply shows an empty market place ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the static, a black woman news reporter comes on. This makes the film more modern and multicultural, also she speaks
with an American accent showing that its set somewhere in America. Behind the news reporter is an image of a broken wedding
ring, and below shows a caption stating star crossed lovers . Star crossed lovers is a line from the prologue, and basically sums
up what the play is about; star crossed lovers means that the two people in love (Romeo and Juliet) have everything against them
being in love, their stars are against them (their star signs clash); if however some people have not understood this phrase, then
the image above (broken ring) explains it, i.e. the ring represents a wedding ring and also never ending love; being split in half
represents that it (i.e. their wedding, love) has ended, or couldn t carry on. After this first prologue has ended, the camera zooms
into a point on the TV screen, and then with a whooshing sound (like we re being sucked right into it) the camera zooms quite
fast onto a statue of Jesus. With this whooshing zooming in, comes operatic music which is dramatic and has big bass drums, it s

Rodney King Research Paper
On March 3, 1991 an African American man named Rodney King became a posterboy for racial tension and police brutality in
America. On this day, police officers Stacey C. Koon, Laurence M. Powell, Timothy E. Wind, and Theodore J. Briseno attempted
to pull Rodney King over because they suspected he was driving under the influence. Mr. King then lead the officers on a 110
mph chase through San Fernando Valley, California, and finally stopped his car in a residential area. Police officers began
beating Mr. King after he got out of his car. Officers tasered, kicked, stomped on, and hit Mr. King with their batons for about 10
minutes. THe whole police encounter was filmed by a nearby resident named George Holliday. After the police were put on trial,

racist comments made by the officers from the trial record. He also made several statements, saying that he too believed the

Mr. King, a paroled felon, who had fled from police and resisted arrest, bore much of the responsibility for the beating. Judge
Davies obviously had sided with the officers, describing them as having distinguished records of public service even though he
knew that each man had been involved in at least one prior criminal incident. He made his loyalties even more evident when he

included a broken cheekbone, a broken orbit (eye socket), and 11 skull fractures. When making an appearance on L.A. Burning:

help the brain stay healthy well past age sixty and prevent, and even reverse, some mental diseases. Every parent has read that

Erasmus s Abuse Of The Catholic Church
A Dutch man named Erasmus was one of the first to become angered with the Church about its abuses. Erasmus was greatly
displeased, but not displeased enough to leave the Church. Martin Luther (a German professor, composer, priest, and monk)
tagged in where Erasmus left off and became the father of the Reformation. Luther argued that there were many issues within the
Roman Catholic Church which he outlined in his Ninety five Thesis. Some of these included the abuses of the Church, the
opulence of the Church, and the overemphasis of good works. Martin Luther recognized and brought to attention the abuses of
the Catholic Church. One of these was the selling of Church offices. Men were allowed to offer the Church a great sum of money
to have a Church office such as a Bishop. Once they were in office long enough, they were able to regain the money they
invested in the position and more. The Church was also selling indulgences, in which a person could supposedly exchange
money for the forgiveness of his or her sins. Luther a, lso believed that the Pope and Rome had excessive power. Furthermore,
Luther brought the opulence of the Church to attention. The Catholic Church advocated giving to the poor and helping the less
fortunate, yet the Church leadership and office holders were very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Luther struggled with his religion while Catholic, but then he came to believe that the Church should be more based on scripture.
During his intense bible study, he came to the conclusion that due to Jesus dying on the cross, everybody had been saved. By this

overemphasized. For example, the sacrament of Confession cannot save you since it is a personal work, and during the sacrament
of the Eucharist, the process of transubstantiation does not

Similarities And Differences Between Mesopotamia And...
Civilizations are radical states of human society that include a high level of culture, morals, knowledge, manufacturing, and
government. Mesopotamia was one of the most astounding civilizations that anyone discovered. The location of this nation fell
right in between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers, where modern day Iraq is located. It was positioned right along the fertile
crescent . Because of this, the soil was very rich which caused great agriculture. It was one of the first cultivations to roam the
earth. Mesopotamia had many phases, which included the Ubaid, Uruk, Jemdat Nasr, Early Dynastic, Akkadian, Babylonian,
Assyrian, and Persian period. Every stage had their own unique trait. Something new and exciting happened for each era. During
4300 BCE, the late Ubaid period in Mesopotamia began. Many events and actions took place during this time. Mesopotamia was
an outstanding region and contained many treasures, including pottery, inventions, architecture, and Ziggurats. Civilizations are
created and formed all over the world. What we see as normal can be seen as a total obscenity in another. A strong society is
always required in order for each group to become successful. The ability to survive is the main key to acquiring a successful
society. Back in beginning of the world, growing and hunting for food was a big factor. We need food and nutrients in order to
survive. People were able to feed themselves and their loved ones. Longer lasting lives were obtainable

To be is life, prosperity, and the purse of happiness. If there were no humans there will be no earth humans are placed on earth to
take care of it. In the first book of the Bible Genesis gives a great example of what it is like to be human. God cares about
everything he created but he cares more about his children because we are a resemblance of God. God created us to take care of
the creation he has made. In the book of Romans Chapter 8:12 17 provides more information about human identity. In Romans
8:12 13 says So then, my friends, we have an obligation, but it is not to live as our human nature wants us to. For if you live
according to your human nature, you are going to die; but if by the Spirit you put to death your sinful actions, you will live (The
Ultimate Student Bible). This scripture is basically saying as mankind, we cannot live our life as others want us to we have to
live our life accordingly to God s will. God created us and has a purpose for each individual he created. For example, Paul
identity was a servant of Jesus Christ his identity consisted of him teaching the word of God in Rome. However, from a biblical
worldview, a lot of people are trying to figure out who they are and what they are called to do. But we have to recognize our
identity that comes from the Lord. God created us and God has a purpose for each man he created on

Thyroid Hormone Research Paper
The thyroid is the gland responsible for taking control of the body s metabolism, protein production, and other processes related
to growth and development. The hormone, produced by this gland is an important hormone that the body needs to grow and
properly develop.
Iodine and Its Role in the Body
To produce the hormone, the thyroid needs iodine. However, iodine is a trace element and the body cannot produce it on its own.
Having a sufficient amount of iodine in the body is essential for the production of the thyroid hormone. Lack of iodine in the
body can cause problems that specifically affect the thyroid gland.
There are two leading problems experienced by the thyroid; hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism. These conditions lead to over
production or an underactive thyroid gland respectively. Symptoms vary but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The irregularity of thyroid hormone production is not good but when the thyroid is destroyed, it is permanent.
What is Thyroid Hormone Replacement?
The good thing is that hormone replacement is available for individuals who need help with thyroid issues. Some conditions of
hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism can last for long periods of time and during this period, it is best to consult a doctor to see
if hormone replacement is an option that an individual can have.
Hormone replacement therapy is done when an individual has permanent or long term need of thyroid hormones that the gland is
failing to produce. Hormone replacement is done by using synthetic hormones similar to the thyroid hormone of the body. The
synthetic hormone will then make up for the low or overproduction of hormones from the malfunctioning thyroid gland.
When a person s thyroid is not functioning normally, a blood workup can be done to determine whether that person will need
thyroid hormone replacement therapy, especially is the hormones are already too high or too

Nero The Great Empire
The name Nero is one of the most recognizable throughout history, widely regarded as the Great Leader of the Roman Empire.
His reforms impacted on the social, political and religious mechanisms used in the Roman Empire for centuries to come. Nero
consolidated his position within Rome through many decisions which favored the people, enabling him to establish and maintain
himself in the position as Emperor. Nero has been known as the emperor who ultimately ended the Julio Claudian dynasty and

were good natured, albeit irresponsible and self indulgent. Although Nero was a supportive man and contributed many assets to
his empire, after his mother s death, Nero fell into a hedonic lifestyle that was full of tyranny. He spent exorbitant amounts of
money on artistic pursuits and began public performances as a poet and lyre player, a significant breach of etiquette for a member

The Role Of Cocaine In Colombia
Supposedly 90% of all U.S. dollars in circulation, including the $13,304,844,056 dollars spent by the U.S. to date in the War on

there is evidently a desire by MNCs to finance whichever side of the conflict controls the land they need and consequently, this

The Effect Of Enzymes On The Enzymes
Background:
Enzymes are proteins with specific 3D conformations, or shapes, which allow them to interact with specifically shaped substrates
in an active site region. The function of enzymes is to speed up, or catalyze, reactions by lowering the activation energy (EA).
The two types of enzymes are catabolic and anabolic; the former assists in breaking down substrate, while the latter assists in

Vladimir Putin Controversy
Vladimir Putin s Presidency has been successful even though it is riddled with controversy and corruption starting from his first
election, and leading to his decision to invade Ukraine and annex Crimea. When Vladimir Putin took office in 1991, it started a
16 year run of power, deceit, and corruption, which has been riddled with controversy. Nevertheless, there is no denying that
Russia has thrived since the election of Vladimir Putin, economically, politically and militarily. Vladimir Putin initially took
power on December 31, 1999 when Boris Yeltsin designated Putin as the Premiere of Russia shortly after Yeltsin decided to

In 2013 as Ukraine was negotiating with the European Union, President Putin was also conducting secret meetings with the
president of Ukraine. These secret meetings helped sway the President of Ukraine to decide against joining the union and striking
a deal with Russia for oil and natural gas. This was the starting point for the Ukrainian revolution in 2014. The Ukrainian
President found refuge in Russia after he was exiled for his decision to join Russia and not the European Union. Now with
Ukraine in disarray, Putin had a new plan; he secretly sent soldiers into Crimea. Putin saw Crimea as a vital piece of land that
could help Russia by giving them a seaport, which is more accessible to the rest of the world. This would also give Russia the
chance to strengthen their navy by giving them a more direct route to the west in order to defend themselves from the west.
Starting October 2014 reports surfaced that there were troops in Crimea. Putin and Russia s government denied all claims that the
troops were Russian soldiers. By March 2, 2015, Russia acknowledged that they had sent troops to the border of Ukraine to
protect Russia from any actions towards Russia. By March 16, Russia announced that troops are in Ukraine and that they held the
majority of the government buildings in Crimea. This sparked the first set of sanctions from the west. Mostly economic, Russia
was able to hold out and not be affected by these sanctions. The second set of sanctions hit their businesses and many of Putin s
friends, which he appointed. This is when Putin started to negotiate with the west. Crimea then held a vote to see if they would
join Russia or stay part of Ukraine. 90% voted in favor of joining Russia. Putin s controversial and secretive acts had paid off and

Olaudah Equiano Research Paper
Romantic Period Comparison The romantic period and its literature is solely based off of reform and change. At the time, slavery
was very prodominit in the Americas, but the people profiting from their virtues in England were oblivious to the conditions the
slaves had to endure. On the other hand, women were fighting their oppressions at home. This was not a case of poor living
conditions, like the slaves, but trying to break away from social standards and stereotypes placed upon them. At the time, the
main way to get out information and spread a cause was through literature, because it reached the higher, literate classes in
society. Mary Wollstonecraft s A Vindication of the Rights of Woman and The Interesting Narrative of Olaudah Equiano both

How Planetary Differentiation Affected The Layers Of The...
Have you ever wondered what the inside of the earth looks like? How it functions? How it was formed? Unit 2 has been all about
the interior Earth. We learned many things like how planetary differentiation affected the layers of the earth. How people use
seismic data to find the depth of the layers. And what convection currents from inside the earth, create. We learned about the
interior Earth for Unit 2.
Planetary differentiation happened when the Earth first formed. The formation of this planet generated heat from gravitational
energy and the decay of radioactive elements. Scientists think that earth may have become so hot that it melted. Denser materials
sank toward the center, forming Earths dense, iron core. Less dense material hardened over time to form Earth s outer layers the
crust and mantle. Planetary differentiation created the layers of the Earth. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We learned that in 4th grade. We went more in depth with that this year. There are two types of Crust; oceanic and continental.
Oceanic is thinner and is mostly made of out basalt. Continental crust is mostly made out of granite. This layer drifts slowly and
is solid. The Earth has sub layers. The lithosphere is part of the crust and uppermost Mantle. Next down is the Asthenosphere,
where all the tectonic plates are. Then the lowest part of the Mantle is called the Mesosphere. The Mantle is semi solid and has
convection currents that move the tectonic plates. It contains more iron than the layer above. The outer core has convection
currents that create the magnetic field. It s the swirly hot iron that really causes it. This is the only layer that is liquid. The inner
core is solid because of the great pressure on it. It is extremely hot. The deeper you go the hotter it gets and iron increases. Two
out of the four main layers have convection

Four Factors of an Aircraft in Flight
The human being is set apart from all other animals by an intelligent, reasoning mind. Another quality that humans seem to
possess is an inherent drive to utilize that mind to achieve to recognize challenges and to attempt conquer them (Smith, 1992, p.
1). One of my favorite person that I used to read about in high school was Benjamin Franklin; one of the founding Father of the
United States of America and the master mind behind the invention of electricity. As stated in the words of Smith, the curiosity of
Franklin lead him to discover how electricity works. This same driven factor of human mind was what led the Wrights Brother to
invent and fly the first power aircraft. The four forces that are acting on an aircraft in flight are: Lift, Weight, Thrust and Drag.
The airplane stays up because it doesn t have the time to fall (Wrights Brothers). One of the unique quality/ characteristic that
differentiate aircraft from all other vehicles is its ability to get up in the air and stay for a long period of time. The force that
raises an object into the air is called lift. The force that acts against this lift force is called weight. The left principle states that in
order for an object to be lifted off the ground, the weight of that object should be less than the air surrounding it. Now you might
be asking, why is it that aircraft which is heavier than car fly but car don t? The answer to this question lies within the
engineering of an aircraft. An aircraft has something

The Quiet American Essay
The Quiet American
The film The Quiet American takes place during the 1950 s in Vietnam. The movie illustrates the atmosphere of Vietnam
previous to the Vietnam War and during the French occupation of the country. The main plot of the movie revolves around three
characters: Fowler played by Michael Caine, Pyle played by Brendan Fraiser, and Phoung played by Do Thi Hai Yen. For the
duration of the movie the three main characters are involved in a semi love triangle. This triangle and the emotions that the male
characters feel towards Phoung begin to characterize the way they feel about the country of Vietnam itself. Vietnam becomes

Pyle doesn t love Vietnam so much as he hates communism, in the same way he doesn t love Phoung so much as he does not

situations at hand. Fowler believes that Vietnam should be left to make its own decisions, but at the same time he is afraid of the
consequences of such choices. This policy of noninvolvement and noncommittal is the same way that he approaches all the
situations within his life. Fowler does not want to become concerned with the circumstances occurring in Vietnam and he also
does not wholeheartedly become involved in the situation between Pyle and Phoung until he is forced to do so. He essentially
permits Phoung to decide whom she wants to be with until he is compelled to leave his state of neutrality when it does not seem
as if he will become the winner of her heart. Yet again Fowler s feelings towards Phoung embody his feelings towards Vietnam.
Fowler wanted to give Phoung a chance to make her own decisions until he becomes petrified that she will choose the stability of
Pyle rather than himself. In a similar way, Fowler believed that Vietnam should be able to choose what would occur in its own
future but he was afraid at the same time that they would make the wrong decision and elect a communist leader. Although

Death of a Salesman Family Relationships Essay
Battle between Father and Son Family relationships always have a way of playing a key role for the duration of most literary
pieces. According to Arthur Miller s novel, Death of a Salesman, the interaction of Willy and his sons, Happy and Biff, shows
that family ties usually are connected either physically or emotionally in some way or another. Willy Loman is just like every
father in a father/son bond, yet all he wants is to be a part of his son s life. Even though Biff and Happy admire and have so much

All Willy really wants is to be a part of his son s lives and, Miller shows this by the example of when in the play Biff comes

could be big in no time , he says to Linda (1215). Partially due to Willy s consistency in Biff s life conflicts start to erupt more
partially to do with the fact being that they had different ideas of what the American Dream really is. With Biff believing that the
most inspiring job to a man is working outdoors, his father disregarded by saying that working on the road selling was the
greatest job a man could possibly have (1276). The boys are clearly not at all fully functioning adults because of their upbringing
throughout their life. Another major issue in the play with the father/son relationship between Willy and his sons is the amount of
love shown towards them. The continuous support from growing up had molded the Lomans into men who always fled back
home whenever a problem approached. Biff says to Willy, I never got anywhere because you blew me so full of hot air I could

Compare And Contrast Maya Angelu And Alice Walker
Maya Angelou and Alice Walker are two amazing poets. Both writers have written about their childhood experience. These
women might be close to a generation apart in age. However, there still share a lot of similarities in their work. You can compare

woman.
At a young age of eight years old, the unthinkable happened to these two women. Maya Angelou was raped and Alice Walker
lost her sight in one of her eyes. Both women see their experiences as a lesson to be learned and to make them a better person in
the long run. In Search of Our Mothers Gardens, a book written by Ms. Walker; she shares with her audience her traumatic

Alice Walker talks about her past as if it is something she is currently experiencing. Her choice of words creates an emotion that

use of screening for prostate cancer. The paper itself is written between doctors Elie Mulhem, Nikolaus Fulbright, and Norah
Duncan. The analysis, while likely directed to those in the medical field, is tailored to be easily understood by laypeople. While
the paper itself is a somewhat brief, surface level analysis of the situation, it does support the notion that prostate cancer

The first reason being the level accuracy of PSA testing is questionable. The test determines a positive for the cancer based on
the levels of prostate specific antigens in the blood of the patient, which can be abnormally high for multiple other reasons not
related to prostate cancer. The major evidence supporting said claim is that individuals with more than 4.0 ng per mL (the
threshold to test positive) can have false positive rates of 70% (Mulhem 2). The second reason would be the implications of
testing positive for prostate cancer, including but not limited to unnecessary treatment of the disease. While the analysis does not
back up unnecessary treatment with any statistical evidence, it does go to explain further tests and procedures to confirm and
understand the nature of the patient s condition. This bleeds over to the negative physical and psychological side effects of
regular prostate cancer screening cited by the analysis. Mulhem explains that after testing positive for prostate cancer, more tests
are performed to determine the accuracy of the screening and if so, reveal the specificities of the cancer. The most common of
these tests being the prostate biopsy, a procedure that causes a significant portion of participants to develop moderate to severe

The Role Of Independent Agencies And The White House Staff...
The modern American presidency is defined as the presidency s transition to the center of American governance. Distinct from
typically passive and isolated presidencies during the 18th and 19th centuries, the modern American presidency of the mid 20th
century set the use of power and popularity as precedence. The transition to the modern presidency can be understood through
the development of the presidency s institutional, international, and perceptual identity. In this essay, I will argue that the
increasing role of independent agencies and the White House staff that spearheaded executive policymaking led to a significant
institutional change to the presidency. I will also argue America s expanding international function in response to globalization
placed the presidency, responsible for foreign policy, in a newly found position to exercise power. Finally, I will argue that the
public perception of the presidency as a living reality (Reedy, p. 10) shifted it from a peripheral political entity to one at the
center of policy discussion and leadership. In this essay, I will present examples of the modern presidency in the attributes of
administrations from Franklin D. Roosevelt through John F. Kennedy, as well as evaluate scholarly models that contextualize
how attributes of these administrations shaped the modern presidency, such as John Burke s Institutional Presidency, Aaron
Wildavsky s Two Presidencies, and George Reedy s American Monarchy.

Animals Should Not Be Zoos
Imagine being a zoo animal. Wouldn t the animal want to be free, and not in captivity? There should not be zoos. From outside of
a cage it is barely noticeable, but what is happening to the zoo animals is not right. There should not be zoos because animals
cannot exercise which leads to health issues, they have little to no space which causes depression, and there are other places that
help animals in a safer and more productive way. The history of zoos is that animals would be in tin cages, now, they live in fake
terrain, so none of these habitats are appropriate for animals. Zoos say that they are helping endangered animals, but really they
are killing them. Most animals in zoos do not get enough exercise as part of their daily schedule, and when animals exercise is
lacking, health issues are occurring more frequently. For instance, stressed animals signal depression or psychoses. When
elephants at zoos sway from side to side, the people outside of the cage believe it is a normal motion for the animal, but it is
actually a signal of stress. Behaviors like these are mainly caused by a lack of privacy, mental stimulation and physical exercise.
To help the animals, some zoos give tranquilizers or antidepressants to control these kinds of behaviors in animals. Animals do
not deserve this, but still lack exercise. For example, cheetahs in the wild pace 0% to 5% of their day, but at the Milwaukee
County Zoo, 64% of their day is spent doing this. Cheetahs are one of the most endangered animals at the zoo because at zoos
they only live to age 16 or 17, while in the wild they live to be 30 or older. As a result of this lack of exercise provided by zoos,
zoos are not matching the animals natural exercise behaviors, so the animals become unhealthy. Most animals stuck in zoos live
by themselves even if they are meant to live in herds. While in the wild, playful african elephants live peacefully and splash each
other with their trunks. In zoos with cages there is not enough space to play and enjoy themselves. The average size of elephants
is 7 feet, and they live in 12 foot enclosed cages, so that leaves them with only 5 feet to move around. Elephants can not move,
nor use their trunks and this causes them to die

Ethics And The Construction Industry
As we all know, ethics play a major role in the construction industry. Many contractors and other construction related companies
today are being judged not only on their quality of work, but by their professional reputation as well. Owners are coming to the
conclusion that although they may not provide the absolute lowest price, the more professionally rated contractors provide a
better experience throughout the construction process. Ethics are at the root of a construction company s reputation. Those
involved in the industry, whether it be a general contractor, design professional, subcontractor, or owner s agent, are often aware
of which companies are known for unethical actions. As well, transparency with regard to ethical behavior is more prevalent for
construction companies operating on a larger scale. Unethical behaviors such as overbilling for work in place, proceeding with
unauthorized change orders, non payment to subcontractors, bid shopping, and bid peddling occur far too often in the
construction industry. However, efforts are currently underway, and have been for some time, to reduce these concerns.
Organizations such as the American Institute of Constructors (AIC), as well as the Construction Management Association of
America (CMAA), and the Associated General Contractors (AGC), have each established a code of ethics and bylaws by which
construction professionals should abide by. Companies that affiliate themselves with these organizations are expected to

Jeans Are A Modern Staple Of Everyone s Closet
Jeans are a modern staple in everyone s closet. They are versatile and look great on everyone, if you have the perfect pair. Not all
jeans cater to everyone s needs; you must find your preferred jean brand. Jeans are an article of clothing I invest in, much like
many other people. I suffered through ill fitting jean all throughout middle school, until I was enlightened. My sister took me to
American Eagle picked out a pair for me to try on. I could immediately feel and see the quality difference. The jeans didn t even
feel like the inelastic and inflexible jeans I was forced to wear throughout my childhood. American Eagle Jeans had set a new
standard for me. They offer an extensive variety in styles, washes, and sizes. The only small flaw is their retail pricing, but it is
certainly worth the investment. American Eagle jeans are made out of a premium cotton denim material called Cotton Elastane
and top of the line dyes. Cotton Elastane is breathable, elastic, flexible, and comfortable. This ninety nine percent cotton one
percent elastane blend of fabrics is what sets American Eagle Jeans from other jean brands that produce a product that is stiff,
unbreathable, uncomfortable, and restrictive. This premium material is extremely durable, withstanding multiple washes and
wears with no signs of weakening. Through all of the washes and wears they still manage to keep their elasticity. Other jeans I
have had would lose their original shape, color and fit after just a

Abstract:
The essay examines evolution of popular music, experiences and how the public understood it between 1918 and 1939. During
this period, a national culture dance was developed in England. Evolution process was marked with transformation of popular
dance forms, affordable and easily dances places and a national wide dancing practice. Evolvement of a dance culture was
instrumental in creation of a national identity. People understood what it meant to be British. There was an English style of
ballroom dancing, thematic content such as the popular Lambeth walk. To reduce American influence on English music, British
ballroom dancers tried to create British music free of American influence. Through adaptation of different dancing styles, they
presented what they believed to be the real British identity. Introduction: In the words of Victor Sylvester, ballroom dancing was
an activity which could not be cut off or separated from the world; it was an activity which was influenced by surrounding
occurrences. Change in occasions such as fashion, war music and social upheavals all played an important role in influencing the
dancing scene. He observed that external forces influenced performance as well as evolution of dancing (Sylvester, 1927). Rather
than concentrating how dancing was influenced by occurrences such as war or change of fashion, this essay

Analysis Of Zitkala-Sa Assimilation
Zitkala Sa s Assimilation Barriers
By 1860, there were 60 missionary schools which were not known for most American societies because they were not mentioned
in the U.S. history, and there were 6200 Native Americans children in it. Cultural assimilation is the process of taking in, fully
understanding and absorbing information or ideas. There are two factors which hindered Zitkala Sa assimilation to the European
American culture. The first factor is how people from different cultures inhabit different nonverbal sensory worlds, and the
second one is judging people based on their own culture and standards. The story of the song ten little Indians started in a
missionary school in the U.S. where Zitkala Sa choose to study at. She was a writer, teacher, violinist, and activist for Native
American rights. She was one of the Native American who suffered through her childhood in the missionary school, and she was
treated badly from European American in a forcing way to accept the new culture and do what they told her to do. However, the
text was categorized in three main sections each of which is describing her life in the missionary school. Overall, Zitkala Sa did
not assimilate completely to European American culture because of misinterpreting of non verbal signs and symbols and having
the tendency to evaluate. First of all, non verbal signs and symbols was a stumbling block to Zitkala Sa s assimilation, and it
raised the tenacity in her to rebel the new European American

The Columbian Exchange And The Columbian Exchange
In 1492, one of the most important exchanges in our history began. At that time, there was a need for spices and tradable goods
and supplies. There were some people who just wanted a direct route to the trade supply in Asia, and there were others who
wanted wealth or to spread the word of God. Christopher Columbus believed that the world was in fact round, but he was
unaware the actual size of the planet. He sailed west in search of the East Indies, however he reached the Caribbean Islands of
the Americas instead. By this accidental encounter with the foreign islands and people, Christopher started the Columbus
exchange. The exchange was widespread throughout Europe, Africa and the Americas around the 15th and 16th centuries. In the
trade, many things were introduced to all three continents. Examples of those things were ideas, people, plants, animals,
technology, etc. The exchange affected the Old World and the New World very differently. Europe had definitely benefited the
most, while others weren t quite so lucky.
Europe had been affected by the Columbian Exchange greatly. They had gained so much from it. Potatoes, maize (corn),
pumpkins, turkey, vanilla, cocoa and many other foods were introduced to Europe through the exchange. With these new foods,
the europeans diets improved tremendously. Their better diets helped make them healthier than before which ultimately increased
their lifespan and caused less infant deaths. Not only did their lifespans

Incident Management Case Study
Since the early 1800 s the Federal government has been involved with assisting local disasters by supplying financial assistance
to those communities that had been destroyed by fire. A fire rippled through a New Hampshire town in 1803, and that was the
first instance of Federal government assistance after a local disaster. Throughout the years, legislation has continued to provide
funding to areas that have been devastated by fire.
In 1934, the Flood Control Act was birthed into legislation. The Flood Control Act allowed the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers to
develop control of the design, as well as construct build flood control projects. In March 2004, the Department of Homeland
Security permitted the National Incident Management System (NIMS) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It has caused delayed response time to fires. There have been individuals injured as well as lives being lost. The quality of life
will be lessened and the risk of life will be much greater. If a fire department is closed, that would mean that extra pressure
would be placed on the remaining opened fire departments. Overload would be intact and the stress level of the firefighters will
increase. Because of budget cuts and the closing of some fire stations, and the laying off of firefighters and civilians, the 9 1 1
calls will not stop, the calls will continue to come. And again, that will place pressure on the remaining fire departments and its
firefighters. Early intervention can possibly sot the escalation or it could certainly de escalate a fire. With that in mind, it will in
turn commence to saving lives and property. Travel time plays a critical role in responding to a fire. If a fire station is two miles
from a fire but that particular fire station was closed due to budget cuts and the next fire station was located 8 miles away, the
chances for injuries, loss of property, or even death is much

The Effect The Molarity Of Sucrose Solution Has On Osmolarity
Title: The effect the molarity of sucrose solution has on osmolarity
Introduction: Passive transport occurs when substances move from high concentration areas to a lower concentration region.
Both Diffusion and Osmosis are examples of passive transport, however, osmosis is when water molecules move across a
selectively permeable membrane. The plasma membrane, being a thin barrier to outside environment, is a selectively permeable
membrane. Thus, it only allows certain particles to enter or exit the cell. A selectively permeable membrane is important because
it protects the cell from certain materials that can potentially be toxic to the cell by not allowing the cell to diffuse uniformly; this
means that not all particles can equally facilitate to the cell (encyclopedia ,n.d.). The movement of substance across a membrane
is caused by two factors, their size and charge (Pearson Education, 2008). If a substance is small and nonpolar it can easily move
but if it s large and polar, it will have difficulty traveling across the membrane. For example, the selectively permeable
membrane allows water, which is known as solvent, to move freely but prevents large molecules such as sugar molecules from
passing through; the sugar molecules are known as solute (BBC, 2014).
However, facilitated diffusion can help the molecules that cannot pass through the cell membrane by themselves. Facilitated
diffusion can help these molecules due specialize proteins such as the channel protein and

I am the newly hired Vice President of Organizational Development. My responsibilities include creating the Organizational
Development Department. I look forward to working with all of you especially with finding a new and improved product based
on our already developed retinal scanning system iScanner. First of all I am going to discuss assumptions made by Kelly
Thomas, Pat Lambert, Cliff O Connor and Chris Martinas. After each employee assumptions will be their arguments and my
evaluation of whether the argument is sound or unsound and why.

3. Assumed because they were not agreeing with him they were not committed to the new product.
4. Assumed that the job could be done by outside contractors in the specified time frame. Also with money being a problem.
5. Assumed a meeting would resolve all problems.
6. Assumed the customer would be happy with whatever product was developed and launched.
7. Assumed Kelly was being a smart ass because he questioned his knowledge about QC.
Pat argued that the scanner needed to be launched in retail, not banks or other easy markets. He also argued with Chris, Kelly s
manager, that Kelly informed him that it would not be a problem to expand the iScanner. Another argument he made is he had
bigger problems than to listen to than answering other questions presented by other staff members. Pats decision to launch a new
product in a new market was sound. To be the first company on the market with a new product to get ahead of your competitors
is a good market strategy. His idea to use an outside contractor was unsound because we are already in a budget deficit and there
is now guarantee that the contractor would have the product completed in time. His statement about having bigger problems than
to answer questions from other staff members was an emotional one. I think he felt nobody wanted to work with

From the standpoint of the labor process, these functions can be grouped around the design and assembly of printed circuit
boards and related components, the final assembly of systems (called box build) and logistics and inventory related work (Lüthje,
Schumm and Sproll 2002). Contract manufacturers are serving a growing range of product markets from Personal Computers
and servers, over Internet routers and switching gear, to communications equipment (especially mobile phones), consumer
products such as computer game or television sets, industrial and automotive electronics, as well as space and aircraft electronics.
The wide range of manufacturing services and products that contract manufacturers provide distinguishes them from traditional
subcontractors, or board stuffers , in the electronics industries. Whereas such firms perform labor intensive assembly processes
strictly controlled by the brand name owner (also called OEM), CM companies develop and manage complex production
processes, often cross national in scope (Sturgeon 1997 and 1999). Contract manufacturing is also different from more
sophisticated sub supply arrangements in the IT industry, particularly from Original Design Manufacturing (ODM). As opposed
to contract manufacturing, ODM companies own the

  • 2. Wealth Of Nations By Adam Smith In his book, Wealth of Nations, Adam Smith makes arguments to support free trade. These arguments range from having to do with war, all the way to the structure of social classes. In order to assess the morality of these arguments, David Hume s definition of morality and Kant s definition of morality can be used. These definitions, ultimately, serve as context for Smith s arguments, so that there is a clearer idea of whether they are moral or not. From this, modern readers of Smith s book can better determine the positive and negative qualities of Smith s idea of free trade. Kant s definition of morality contrasts with Hume s definition. For Kant, morality is split into three categories, the analytic imperative, the hypothetical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Smith writes that it is moral for society to have different levels of wealth based on talent and hard work. His feels that the lowest people in a free trade society will still be better off than some top people in a non free trade society. He mentions how a collier worker commonly earns double, and in many parts of Scotland, three times as much as common labor (Smith 1.8). In other words, the possession of a skill causes the worker to make more, since, unlike a common laborer who can easily be swapped out, a skilled laborer can only be swapped out with someone who possesses that particular skill. This discussion related to social class would be agreeable to Hume s definition of morality. In particular, it fits into Hume s idea of using reason to determine whether an action is moral or not. Since the worker who makes less than the skilled worker would still be able to support themselves, Hume would feel that the situation is moral. Hume ultimately would argue that as long as the person, making less, is not suffering, then the income difference is moral. Kant s definition of morality would also agree with Smith s discussion of social classes. This is because this discussion in Smith s book, falls under the analytic imperative. In Kant s definition of morality, it would be moral for people to make more because of a skill. This is because people would seek to acquire a skill, or talent if they wanted to earn more based off of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Pros And Cons Of Social Stereotypes Stereotype threat is a social phenomenon where a member of a negatively stereotyped group performs poorly when reminded of that stereotype (Beilock, Jellison, Rydell, McConnell, Carr, 2006). For example, previous studies have shown that when primed with a negative stereotype African Americans perform worse on intellectual tasks (Steele, Aronson, 1995), and women perform worse at math (Spencer, Steele, Quinn, 1999). The main component of stereotype threat is that it impairs working memory (Schmader, Forbes, Johns, 2008). Working memory is a short term memory system that is involved in the control, regulation, and active maintenance of a limited amount of information with immediate relevance to the task at hand (Miyake Shah, 1999). So essentially as one works on a task, working memory keeps all the important information ready for quick access, which is crucial for performance in almost every domain. Previous studies have shown that working memory capacity is a direct mediator between stereotype threat and impaired mental performance (Schmader, Johns, 2003). At a cognitive level, working memory is a limited capacity resource that can become depleted if it is attending to multiple domains. If depleted there is less capacity available to control a task s execution and information processing demands (Schmader, Johns, 2003). Many different studies have contested how it is that stereotype threat impairs performance. For example, in Steele and Aronson s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Digitisation authorised by Judith Keene ISN: 1292002549 CASE STUDY The internationalisation of Tesco new frontiers and new problems Neil Wrigley, Michelle Lowe and Katherine Cudworth Tesco s international expansion until 2010 had seemed like a complete success despite the odd hiccough. This case re examines Tesco s internationalisation in the context of harsher economic conditions, using a comparison of its operations in South Korea and the USA to draw out important strategic dimensions of the retail internationalisation process. It also explores the organisational consequences of that process for the firm, particularly when it is perceived to threaten the home market performance of the retailer. ● In May 2013, Tesco, the UK s largest retailer and private sector employer of labour, announced annual sales for 2012 13 of £72 billion (~ $109bn ~ CSSbn),1 barely changed from the previous year. Profits were £3.4bn, down from £3.8 billion the year before. For Philip Clarke, Tesco s CEO since 2011, this was his second set of disappointing annual results. Sales across Europe were flat, and the company had had to decide at the end of 2012 to exit Tesco s business in the United States. The main source of encouragement seemed to be Tesco s growing Asian business. Philip Clarke declared: Building an international business, even when the global headwinds work ... The Opening of Baz Luhrman s Film Version of Romeo and Juliet The Opening of Baz Luhrman s Film Version of Romeo and Juliet Franco Zeffirelli s 1969 version of Romeo and Juliet was actually filmed on location in Verona and is set in the 15th century, when the story of Romeo and Juliet was meant to happen. Its opening prologue is very plain and simple, there are just two long shots and the voiceovers voice speaks very slowly. The first shot is a long shot of medieval Verona on a misty morning, the camera pans around to the river and tilts up and zooms in slowly into the sun, the name William Shakespeare then appears below it this could signify that he is looking down over what is happening in Verona. The second shot simply shows an empty market place ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After the static, a black woman news reporter comes on. This makes the film more modern and multicultural, also she speaks with an American accent showing that its set somewhere in America. Behind the news reporter is an image of a broken wedding ring, and below shows a caption stating star crossed lovers . Star crossed lovers is a line from the prologue, and basically sums up what the play is about; star crossed lovers means that the two people in love (Romeo and Juliet) have everything against them being in love, their stars are against them (their star signs clash); if however some people have not understood this phrase, then the image above (broken ring) explains it, i.e. the ring represents a wedding ring and also never ending love; being split in half represents that it (i.e. their wedding, love) has ended, or couldn t carry on. After this first prologue has ended, the camera zooms into a point on the TV screen, and then with a whooshing sound (like we re being sucked right into it) the camera zooms quite fast onto a statue of Jesus. On this day, police officers Stacey C. Koon, Laurence M. Powell, Timothy E. Wind, and Theodore J. Briseno attempted to pull Rodney King over because they suspected he was driving under the influence. Mr. King then lead the officers on a 110 mph chase through San Fernando Valley, California, and finally stopped his car in a residential area. Police officers began beating Mr. King after he got out of his car. Officers tasered, kicked, stomped on, and hit Mr. King with their batons for about 10 minutes. He also made several statements, saying that he too believed the incident....would not have occurred at all, but for Mr. King s initial misconduct. Davies elaborated on his beliefs when he stated, Mr. King, a paroled felon, who had fled from police and resisted arrest, bore much of the responsibility for the beating. Judge Davies obviously had sided with the officers, describing them as having distinguished records of public service even though he knew that each man had been involved in at least one prior criminal incident. He made his loyalties even more evident when he said Mr. King had no serious injuries . He was only hit in the head or the face once, possibly inadvertently. King s facial injuries included a broken cheekbone, a broken orbit (eye socket), and 11 skull fractures. When making an appearance on L.A. • 9. Erasmus s Abuse Of The Catholic Church A Dutch man named Erasmus was one of the first to become angered with the Church about its abuses. Erasmus was greatly displeased, but not displeased enough to leave the Church. Martin Luther (a German professor, composer, priest, and monk) tagged in where Erasmus left off and became the father of the Reformation. Luther argued that there were many issues within the Roman Catholic Church which he outlined in his Ninety five Thesis. Some of these included the abuses of the Church, the opulence of the Church, and the overemphasis of good works. Martin Luther recognized and brought to attention the abuses of the Catholic Church. One of these was the selling of Church offices. Men were allowed to offer the Church a great sum of money to have a Church office such as a Bishop. Once they were in office long enough, they were able to regain the money they invested in the position and more. The Church was also selling indulgences, in which a person could supposedly exchange money for the forgiveness of his or her sins. Luther a, lso believed that the Pope and Rome had excessive power. Civilizations are radical states of human society that include a high level of culture, morals, knowledge, manufacturing, and government. Mesopotamia was one of the most astounding civilizations that anyone discovered. The location of this nation fell right in between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers, where modern day Iraq is located. It was positioned right along the fertile crescent . Because of this, the soil was very rich which caused great agriculture. It was one of the first cultivations to roam the earth. Mesopotamia had many phases, which included the Ubaid, Uruk, Jemdat Nasr, Early Dynastic, Akkadian, Babylonian, Assyrian, and Persian period. Every stage had their own unique trait. Something new and exciting happened for each era. During 4300 BCE, the late Ubaid period in Mesopotamia began. Many events and actions took place during this time. Mesopotamia was an outstanding region and contained many treasures, including pottery, inventions, architecture, and Ziggurats. Civilizations are created and formed all over the world. What we see as normal can be seen as a total obscenity in another. A strong society is always required in order for each group to become successful. This scripture is basically saying as mankind, we cannot live our life as others want us to we have to live our life accordingly to God s will. God created us and has a purpose for each individual he created. For example, Paul identity was a servant of Jesus Christ his identity consisted of him teaching the word of God in Rome. The hormone, produced by this gland is an important hormone that the body needs to grow and properly develop. Iodine and Its Role in the Body To produce the hormone, the thyroid needs iodine. However, iodine is a trace element and the body cannot produce it on its own. Having a sufficient amount of iodine in the body is essential for the production of the thyroid hormone. Hormone replacement therapy is done when an individual has permanent or long term need of thyroid hormones that the gland is failing to produce. Hormone replacement is done by using synthetic hormones similar to the thyroid hormone of the body. The synthetic hormone will then make up for the low or overproduction of hormones from the malfunctioning thyroid gland. Although he was known for his nighttime frolicking, his actions were good natured, albeit irresponsible and self indulgent. Although Nero was a supportive man and contributed many assets to his empire, after his mother s death, Nero fell into a hedonic lifestyle that was full of tyranny. He spent exorbitant amounts of money on artistic pursuits and began public performances as a poet and lyre player, a significant breach of etiquette for a member of the ruling class (Pamela B, 1990). The Effect Of Enzymes On The Enzymes Background: Enzymes are proteins with specific 3D conformations, or shapes, which allow them to interact with specifically shaped substrates in an active site region. The two types of enzymes are catabolic and anabolic; the former assists in breaking down substrate, while the latter assists in building up, or combining, substrates. Another quality that humans seem to possess is an inherent drive to utilize that mind to achieve to recognize challenges and to attempt conquer them (Smith, 1992, p. 1). One of my favorite person that I used to read about in high school was Benjamin Franklin; one of the founding Father of the United States of America and the master mind behind the invention of electricity. As stated in the words of Smith, the curiosity of Franklin lead him to discover how electricity works. This same driven factor of human mind was what led the Wrights Brother to invent and fly the first power aircraft. The four forces that are acting on an aircraft in flight are: Lift, Weight, Thrust and Drag. The airplane stays up because it doesn t have the time to fall (Wrights Brothers). One of the unique quality/ characteristic that differentiate aircraft from all other vehicles is its ability to get up in the air and stay for a long period of time. The force that raises an object into the air is called lift. The force that acts against this lift force is called weight. The left principle states that in order for an object to be lifted off the ground, the weight of that object should be less than the air surrounding it. Fowler believes that Vietnam should be left to make its own decisions, but at the same time he is afraid of the consequences of such choices. This policy of noninvolvement and noncommittal is the same way that he approaches all the situations within his life. Fowler does not want to become concerned with the circumstances occurring in Vietnam and he also does not wholeheartedly become involved in the situation between Pyle and Phoung until he is forced to do so. He essentially permits Phoung to decide whom she wants to be with until he is compelled to leave his state of neutrality when it does not seem as if he will become the winner of her heart. Yet again Fowler s feelings towards Phoung embody his feelings towards Vietnam. Fowler wanted to give Phoung a chance to make her own decisions until he becomes petrified that she will choose the stability of Pyle rather than himself. In a similar way, Fowler believed that Vietnam should be able to choose what would occur in its own future but he was afraid at the same time that they would make the wrong decision and elect a communist leader. • 32. Death of a Salesman Family Relationships Essay Battle between Father and Son Family relationships always have a way of playing a key role for the duration of most literary pieces. According to Arthur Miller s novel, Death of a Salesman, the interaction of Willy and his sons, Happy and Biff, shows that family ties usually are connected either physically or emotionally in some way or another. Willy Loman is just like every father in a father/son bond, yet all he wants is to be a part of his son s life. Even though Biff and Happy admire and have so much love for their father when they are younger, later down the road when they are older suddenly they realize he had failed to prepare them for the real society in life. All Willy really wants is to be a part of his son s lives and, Miller shows this by the example of when in the play Biff comes home to recollect himself, Willy seems to think this as a failure because he would rather see his eldest son be likely more successful rather than his youngest, Happy. Hereafter, Willy tries to take matter into his own hands, I ll get him a job selling, he could be big in no time , he says to Linda (1215). Partially due to Willy s consistency in Biff s life conflicts start to erupt more partially to do with the fact being that they had different ideas of what the American Dream really is. With Biff believing that the most inspiring job to a man is working outdoors, his father disregarded by saying that working on the road selling was the greatest job a man could possibly have (1276). The boys are clearly not at all fully functioning adults because of their upbringing throughout their life. Another major issue in the play with the father/son relationship between Willy and his sons is the amount of love shown towards them. The continuous support from growing up had molded the Lomans into men who always fled back home whenever a problem approached. Biff says to Willy, I never got anywhere because you blew me so full of hot air I could not stand taking orders from anybody! (1275). The Loman brothers were babied so much all through their ... At a young age of eight years old, the unthinkable happened to these two women. Maya Angelou was raped and Alice Walker lost her sight in one of her eyes. Both women see their experiences as a lesson to be learned and to make them a better person in the long run. The paper itself is written between doctors Elie Mulhem, Nikolaus Fulbright, and Norah Duncan. While the paper itself is a somewhat brief, surface level analysis of the situation, it does support the notion that prostate cancer screening through methods like prostate specific antigen (PSA) testing and digital rectal examinations (DRE) have questionable effectiveness. The intention of the paper appears to persuade doctors and the public to the viewpoint that prostate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first reason being the level accuracy of PSA testing is questionable. The test determines a positive for the cancer based on the levels of prostate specific antigens in the blood of the patient, which can be abnormally high for multiple other reasons not related to prostate cancer. The major evidence supporting said claim is that individuals with more than 4.0 ng per mL (the threshold to test positive) can have false positive rates of 70% (Mulhem 2). The second reason would be the implications of testing positive for prostate cancer, including but not limited to unnecessary treatment of the disease. While the analysis does not back up unnecessary treatment with any statistical evidence, it does go to explain further tests and procedures to confirm and understand the nature of the patient s condition. This bleeds over to the negative physical and psychological side effects of regular prostate cancer screening cited by the analysis. Mulhem explains that after testing positive for prostate cancer, more tests are performed to determine the accuracy of the screening and if so, reveal the specificities of the cancer. The most common of these tests being the prostate biopsy, a procedure that causes a significant portion of participants to develop moderate to severe problems requiring a follow up with their doctor (Mulhem ... • 38. The Role Of Independent Agencies And The White House Staff... The modern American presidency is defined as the presidency s transition to the center of American governance. Distinct from typically passive and isolated presidencies during the 18th and 19th centuries, the modern American presidency of the mid 20th century set the use of power and popularity as precedence. The transition to the modern presidency can be understood through the development of the presidency s institutional, international, and perceptual identity. In this essay, I will argue that the increasing role of independent agencies and the White House staff that spearheaded executive policymaking led to a significant institutional change to the presidency. I will also argue America s expanding international function in response to globalization placed the presidency, responsible for foreign policy, in a newly found position to exercise power. Finally, I will argue that the public perception of the presidency as a living reality (Reedy, p. 10) shifted it from a peripheral political entity to one at the center of policy discussion and leadership. In this essay, I will present examples of the modern presidency in the attributes of administrations from Franklin D. Roosevelt through John F. Kennedy, as well as evaluate scholarly models that contextualize how attributes of these administrations shaped the modern presidency, such as John Burke s Institutional Presidency, Aaron Wildavsky s Two Presidencies, and George Reedy s American Monarchy. • 39. Animals Should Not Be Zoos Imagine being a zoo animal. Wouldn t the animal want to be free, and not in captivity? There should not be zoos. From outside of a cage it is barely noticeable, but what is happening to the zoo animals is not right. There should not be zoos because animals cannot exercise which leads to health issues, they have little to no space which causes depression, and there are other places that help animals in a safer and more productive way. The history of zoos is that animals would be in tin cages, now, they live in fake terrain, so none of these habitats are appropriate for animals. Zoos say that they are helping endangered animals, but really they are killing them. Most animals in zoos do not get enough exercise as part of their daily schedule, and when animals exercise is lacking, health issues are occurring more frequently. For instance, stressed animals signal depression or psychoses. When elephants at zoos sway from side to side, the people outside of the cage believe it is a normal motion for the animal, but it is actually a signal of stress. Behaviors like these are mainly caused by a lack of privacy, mental stimulation and physical exercise. To help the animals, some zoos give tranquilizers or antidepressants to control these kinds of behaviors in animals. Animals do not deserve this, but still lack exercise. For example, cheetahs in the wild pace 0% to 5% of their day, but at the Milwaukee County Zoo, 64% of their day is spent doing this. Cheetahs are one of the most endangered animals at the zoo because at zoos they only live to age 16 or 17, while in the wild they live to be 30 or older. As a result of this lack of exercise provided by zoos, zoos are not matching the animals natural exercise behaviors, so the animals become unhealthy. Most animals stuck in zoos live by themselves even if they are meant to live in herds. While in the wild, playful african elephants live peacefully and splash each other with their trunks. In zoos with cages there is not enough space to play and enjoy themselves. The average size of elephants is 7 feet, and they live in 12 foot enclosed cages, so that leaves them with only 5 feet to move around. Elephants can not move, nor use their trunks and this causes them to die ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Effect The Molarity Of Sucrose Solution Has On Osmolarity Title: The effect the molarity of sucrose solution has on osmolarity Introduction: Passive transport occurs when substances move from high concentration areas to a lower concentration region. Both Diffusion and Osmosis are examples of passive transport, however, osmosis is when water molecules move across a selectively permeable membrane. The plasma membrane, being a thin barrier to outside environment, is a selectively permeable membrane. Thus, it only allows certain particles to enter or exit the cell. A selectively permeable membrane is important because it protects the cell from certain materials that can potentially be toxic to the cell by not allowing the cell to diffuse uniformly; this means that not all particles can equally facilitate to the cell (encyclopedia ,n.d.). The movement of substance across a membrane is caused by two factors, their size and charge (Pearson Education, 2008). If a substance is small and nonpolar it can easily move but if it s large and polar, it will have difficulty traveling across the membrane. For example, the selectively permeable membrane allows water, which is known as solvent, to move freely but prevents large molecules such as sugar molecules from passing through; the sugar molecules are known as solute (BBC, 2014). However, facilitated diffusion can help the molecules that cannot pass through the cell membrane by themselves.
