The Psychoanalytic Approach . And Some Of The Influential
The Psychoanalytic Approach
And Some of the Influential
People Behind It
Diane L. Williams
Clatsop Community College The Psychoanalytic Approach And Some of the Influential
People Behind It
There are different theoretical approaches to psychology; behaviorist, humanistic, psychoanalytic, and
biological. I will be discussing the psychoanalytic approach to psychology and some of the pioneers of
this theory.
What is the psychoanalytic approach? Psychoanalysis is a form of psychotherapy that aids an
individual in determining the underlying cause of deep rooted psychological troubles when other
approaches have not been successful in alleviating those troubles. This approach is better suited for
those issues that have been plaguing an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Freud based his theory of psychoanalysis on unconscious forces, sexual aggressive instincts, and early
childhood experiences as what shapes who we are as adults. Even though his approaches may not be
favored completely today research has shown that the self examination used in his psychoanalytic
process can contribute to one s long term emotional growth (Cherry, K. 2016b). Health professionals
were enlightened by psychoanalysis to the inner workings of the human mind, which were previously
inexplicable (Beystehner, K.M., n.d.). Sigmund Freud s research indicated that our behavior is
influenced by id, ego and superego, or what he termed structure of personality (nthdimension, 2010).
The id is present at birth and is the most basic and primitive part of our personality. Id s drive is
instinctual and can be described as having the life instinct named Eros and the death instinct named
Thanatos. Id is responsible for the basic, instinctual needs of survival like hunger and thirst. Ego is
developed to compromise between the instinctual desire driven Id and the external expectations of
parents and society. Superego is developed when a child is about 5 years old and is the internalization
of the expectations of parents and society that aides them to evaluate their behaviors for what s
acceptable or not acceptable.

Language Planning and Language Development
LANGUAGE PLANNING AND LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT
Language is a typically human phenomenon. In moving from the natural being of animal existence to
the cultural being of human existence, language plays the decisive role. Language gives a sense of
identity to an individual as well as a social group and, in the process, creates multiple identities. The
maintenance, merger, clash and change in identities based on and reflected in the language change has
prompted linguists, philosophers, psychologists, sociologists, anthropologists and political scientists to
study language in its multifarious dimensions. Since economic and societal planning have to, of
necessity, take into account the context of planning, there is no wonder that worldwide ... Show more

5. Illiteracy is a major problem of the country (Pattanayak 1974). Out of 800 million illiterates in the
world, India is credited to have 400 million . if in eradicating illiteracy the intention is to move from a
culture of silence to a culture of thinking participation and the emphasis is on the creation of an
intelligent task force for economic and industrial development, then, urgent and bold steps need to be
taken in this area. Literacy in a multilingual must be based on the expressed needs of a people3.
Secondly, the language of literacy has to be determined keeping in view the various contexts of
language use and strategies linking the languages of literacy with that of education and administration.
It would thus be quite clear that whether it is in the field of language use in education, language use in
administration or in mass media, there is a constant need to weigh alternatives and plan action. The
examples cited above are as true of any multilingual country as they are of India. Such examples not
only establish the necessity for language planning, but also the need to analyse its process and
product.
Before talking about language planning, one must understand the motivation and mechanisms of
planning. Planning is not merely a catalogue of resources and the organisation and mobilization of
these resources to reach a certain defined goal. Since the technocrat is seldom the decision maker, it is
important that the planner provides alternatives and

Trisha Brown Research Paper
Trisha Brown was born in Aberdeen, Washington on November 25th, 1936 and received her B.A.
degree in dance from Mills College in 1958. She later received a D.F.A. from Bates College in 2000.
For many summers, she studied with Louis Horst at the American Dance Festival, which was then
held at Connecticut College.
Trisha moved to New York City to study composition with Robert Dunn, who had taught a class at
Merce Cunningham s studio. This studio was based on John Cage s theories of chance. Brown rejected
aspects of it but also maintained great admiration for him and his work. In 1961 she trained with
dancer Anna Halprin and became a founding member of the avant garde Judson Dance Theater in
1962. There she worked with experimental dancers Steve Paxton, Twyla Tharp, Lucinda Childs,
Yvonne Rainer, and David Gordon. In the late 1960s, Brown created her own works which attempted
to defy gravity using equipment such as harnesses and ropes, which allowed dancers to walk on or
down walls to experiment with the dynamics of stability. These equipment pieces were the first dances
to comprise a distinct series in what would become a working method for her as she went on to create
various cycles of dances throughout her career.
In 1970, Brown cofounded the Grand Union, which was an experimental dance collective, and then

Detecting Autism In Toddlers
Abstract
This paper considers the problem of detecting autism in toddlers at an age early enough to allow for
timely intervention. It begins with an overview of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs) and explains
the importance of early screening for such disorders. It then outlines a range of possible screening
techniques, before focusing on the most prominent of these, the Modified Checklist for Autism in
Toddlers (M CHAT). The paper explains the origins of M CHAT, how it works, and what its results
have been so far. It also considers an important question guiding contemporary research on M CHAT,
namely the appropriate age range at which M CHAT is to be administered. The paper concludes with a
consideration of the limitations of research into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(2001) as a means of improving upon the earlier CHAT, both in terms of sensitivity and practicality. It
aims to detect ASDs early in toddlers and utilizes a parental questionnaire involving twenty three
questions, six of which are designated as critical. The latter refer to protodeclarative pointing,
response to name, interest in peers, bringing things to show a parent, following a point, and imitation
(Robins et al. 2001). In order to mitigate against false positives, M CHAT requires the practitioner to
contact parents in the case of positive screenings and to get them to verify their answers during a
follow up interview. A positive screen occurs in one of two cases: either if responses to any two of the
six critical questions indicate abnormal developmental progress, or if any three of the twenty three
questions indicate the same. Because of the relatively simple questionnaire format, which only takes
around five to ten minutes to complete, it is possible to administer the M CHAT screen by telephone if

Implementation True Religion Jeans
Implementation: True Religion Brand Jeans
True Religion Brand Jeans is a relatively new company, establishing itself in late 2002, and taking
denim in a new direction. Just over three years old, the company has capitalized on the latest
Hollywood trends and narrowed their target market to the likes of celebrities and high fashion ‘gurus
who don t seem to mind forking out $400 for a pair of jeans. Currently, True Religion s strategy is
through differentiation of their product through prestige, brand image and innovation. They have
established a quality product with fashionable trendsetting lines and paying impeccable attention to
detail, appealing directly to their target market and differentiating their product from their competitors.

True Religion employs a production supervisor to monitor its contract manufacturers and an
accountant to maintain the books and records of the company. In the very near future the company
plans to hire two employees to sew and produce its samples for sale and a chief operating officer
responsible for manufacturing, operations and finance. Being so young, the company is still branching
out, has plans of hiring a lot of new staff, and is looking forward to establishing a real ‘structure .
With only a limited number of employees, it is hard to tell whether these employees are really
educated and informed on the matters of decision making, or if they are just making the best decisions
they can, based on limited information or previous knowledge. It is VERY important to have
professionals in each field (ie. Production, engineering, marketing, R D, accounting, etc) to make the
best informed decision.
The structure most appropriate for this new brand would be the simple, functional organizational
structure, CEO and Presidents Jeffrey and Kym Lubell reigning high on the ladder, and having a
designated professional working under them and making more centralized decisions. Currently the
Lubells make the final decisions, enhancing the organizational perspective across all functions of the
organization. This structure facilitates career paths and professional development in specialized areas,
and is critical in the overall smoothness and functionality of the implementation

Hematoma Research Paper
Choice A is the best answer. All of the choices are complications of parathyroid surgery. The
development of an expanding hematoma in the pretracheal space has the highest mortality in
postoperative patients if left untreated as it compresses the airway. This complication must be
recognized and treated immediately by opening the wound and evacuating the hematoma. If untreated,
the hematoma may progress rapidly, causing airway obstruction. In contrast, most small hematomas
do not require treatment[1].
Choice B is not the best answer. After a 4 parathyroid gland exploration, calcium levels must be
monitored postoperatively every 12 hours until stabilization. The nadir of serum calcium usually
occurs 24 72 hours postoperatively. Many patients become hypocalcemic, but few become
symptomatic. Treatment is reserved for patients with severe hypocalcemia or in patients who ... Show

If hypoparathyroidism persists after surgery, oral supplementation with calcium and vitamin D is
required. Calcium citrate or calcium carbonate may be started at 2 tablets, 4 times per day. Some
patients require substantially more. Calcitriol is started at 0.5 mcg twice daily and increased as
required. Patients in whom total parathyroidectomy and auto transplantation is performed, they can be
expected to require only temporary calcium supplementation[1].
Choice D is not the best answer. If a recurrent laryngeal nerve is transected during parathyroidectomy,
immediate repair is indicated. Damage to the external branch of the superior laryngeal nerve can cause
the patient to lose the ability to sing, shout or project their voice. If the recurrent nerve is unknowingly
injured intraoperatively, but dysfunction is suggested because the patient has developed new
hoarseness, expectant management is chosen initially since most patients recover nerve function over
a few weeks to months. Laryngoscopy is indicated to document both dysfunction and recovery of

In many cases, it has been the awareness that change was even happening at all, the understanding that
the solid base from which prediction was being made might be about as solid as quicksand. Even the
most apparently immutable system or structure may be experiencing change even as you look at it. By
change I mean, of course, not just change in the sense of bigger and better models and new ways of
doing the same things you were doing before, but qualitative change in the structure and behavior of
the society in which you live. I mean new philosophies as well as new gadgets. I m not saying that the
appreciation of change is easy; far from it, particularly today. As one of your more respectable social
forecasters said recently, If you understand something today, that means it must by definition already
be obsolete. Our general relationship with the present accelerating rate of change reminds me of the

Success For A Business Analyst
Success for a Business Analyst is not that easy to understand. This is because, when a project goes
well, he takes a back seat. But, when there is even the smallest of problems, he is the one in the firing
line. The role of the business analyst is to bring clarity to the project outcomes and getting the
business to own the solutions. The success of a Business Analyst can be measured by answering the
following questions:
a. Does the project deliver the anticipated value and meet the objectives of the business case? Is the
business happy with the value that is delivered?
b. Are the stakeholders aligned around the project concept?
c. Are the stakeholders convinced that the solution being developed is the best possible solution to the

Every person s suggestions are taken until management is satisfied that all has been done to rectify the
situation. Everything is on track and the project is coming together. Teams are coordinating with each
other and everything is going according to plan. Just then, at the last stage, it all falls apart. Nothing is
as it seems. The project has failed to accomplish what it set out to do. In this scenario, the business
analyst is left hung out to dry, he is blamed and every finger starts pointing at him.
This is exactly the kind of scenario that a business analyst fears. A business analyst must make sure
that such a situation never arises. Some reasons that cause such failures are:
a. Incomplete requirements: There are situations when, the requirement provided by the business are
not complete and contain holes. Such holes must be filled by questioning and covering all possible
scenarios. A business analyst must make sure that the requirements are clear, scope clearly defined and
all loopholes covered.
b. Lack of user requirement: There are certain scenarios when there is uncertainty in the primary and
secondary users that are involved in the implementation of a requirement. This could be due to poor
communication. A business analyst must make sure that he identifies the correct stakeholders and
engages with them by asking the correct questions.
c. Unrealistic expectations: Not every requirement can be met by the implementation team in terms of
cost, design,

Analysis Of Buddha In The Land Of Kami
Buddha in the Land of Kami reviews Japan on a historical account. It revisits the story of the Kami
and elaborates on the country s uniqueness. Significant to Japanese culture, this film recognizes
Chinese culture as the primary influence on Japan formation. The film given categorizes as a historical
documentary that appears to be in the setting of Japan from the seventh and twelfth centuries.
Although World History; Culture, States and Societies, explore a different time frame (500 B.C.E
Seventh century), there are still many similarities as compared to the documentary; such as the
importance of the Kami, and the role Chinese culture play on the development of Japan.
Shintoism: The Way of the Kami. Israel defines Kami as spirits that affiliate with natural objects such
as the sun and the moon. In the opening of Buddha in the Land of the Kami, the narrator shares the
historical background of the Kami, stating that a spiritual duo came down to Earth to stir up the sea
waters, creating the archipelago of Japan. The sprits figure out reproduction and multiply, inhabiting
the chain of Islands known as Japan. The narrators also mention the Kami in mountains, wind, grass
and other natural entities. According to the film, spiritual rituals performed in earlier eras show
continuity in Shinto shrines today. Israel explains that later, during the Asuka Nara Period, The
Yamato high courts establish a system that would monitor Shinto shrines. The Yomato court

Sylvia Beach s Ballet Technique
While Antheil was living in Paris in the 1920 s, Sylvia Beach introduced him to a filmmaker by the
name of Fernand Legér. Together they came up with an idea that would eventually be conceived as
Ballet Mécanique. While both the film and the score were created at the same time, the two were very
quickly separated into their own separate artistic entities. Inspired by the factory setting he grew up in,
and the avant garde art he was exposed to while living in Paris. The Ballet has had many different
premieres and many rewrites since the very first premiere in 1926. The orchestration of the piece was
not to concerning for Antheil: citing that instruments continue to change and improve but the

But problems arose even without music, as the promoter Donald Friede the vice president of the
publishing firm Boni Liverwright had never promoted a live show, certainly not as big as this one. The
next problem was the backdrop behind the orchestra; Antheil felt that the traditional curtain would not
suite his needs so he asked Joseph Mullen to create two backdrops for the performance. The first
backdrop was created for his Jazz Symphony which depicted an African American couple dancing the
Charleston while the male is firmly grasping her buttocks in front of an American flag background.
This piece was performed by an African American orchestra. This only heightened the controversy.
The next one, created for Ballet Mécanique depicts a futuristic city with the focal point being a
Dadaist representation of Marcel Duchamp s Fountain, and a more than life size figure of a man
jumping off a diving board that seemed to be attached to a curved pipe of the sort generally used in
connection with a toilet. Even after thoroughly scaring the New York elite, more problems arose when
the combination of the house curtain and the two created backdrops absorbed a great amount of sound.
Due to a mix up, the string quartet originally planned to be played second, was played first. Leaving

The Virgin and The Gipsy Written by D.H. Lawrence
This novel is very intriguing and teaches lessons of morality, religion, and of life and death intended
for those with imagination and insight.
The author s style contributes deeply to the intrigue and true meaning to this novel. The author s use
of imagery makes tensions in the story vivid and emphatic. In this story there is a re occurring tension
between religion and desire. The tension between religion and desire is most clearly demonstrated
between the characters of Yvette and the rector. Yvette was brought up in a world of religious

He wishes for her to be pure to her desires and emotions. Her wants and need to be seen or recognized
as a woman of flesh and blood, and not a symbol of innocence like the way her father molded Lucille.
Life and death are also described very well with imagery. Cynthia was described as a sign of life,
because she was true to her heart and her desires, while the matter was described as a symbol of death.
The contrast between Cynthia and the matter is very descriptive and reflects the author s use of
imagery very well. The narrator describes Cynthia as a great glow, a flow of life ; #8230; ;like a sun in
the home ; #8230; ; always associating her presence with brightness #8230;.and glamour. ;(pgs.5 8).
These descriptions of Cynthia give a sense of life and warmth. The author created an image for the
reader so wonderfully that when this glamorous creature left; she took all life with her. The rector
turned bitter and resentful because in the rector s eyes Cynthia conveyed purity and freshness, when
she left she took all her pure qualities with her and she left behind a nettle ;, a toad ;, and a gross ;
woman to take her place, the matter. In contrast to Cynthia the matter appears to be destructive, ugly,
nosy, and insignificant, the utmost representation of death. It is when the matter comes to take over the
lives of the Saywell s they all move to the rectory. The rectory was described by the narrator to be
dark, and never fresh. The characters within the rectory

McAfee of Harvard Business School has said: What Nike and i2 Technologies Inc. began experiencing
the problem actually is not the software itself... The culprit there was misspecification Further on the
subject of customization, Nike had great difficulties balancing customization with speed to market. I
believe the external factors of significant competition, changing market place and resulting
disappointing financial performance in growth markets lead Nike to rush the implementation and
interfered with normal OBB. The rushing meant that a guideline, templates and implementation
methodology was discarded by Nike with the argument that the i2 provided material was too rigid. In
general I would argue that Nike required technology that was not sufficiently available at the time.
This pushed i2 to enter unknown software territory and program to order disabling sufficient time for
vendor/developer testing. The criticality of this was further boosted due to lack of testing from Nike,
which clearly illustrates faults in phase 4 of the implementation as well. (Appendix 3) Lastly, I find
evidence that a global ERP and SCM software potentially would be difficult to manage successfully at

Nike required a technical solution which was not

measurements of radioactivity in certain types of rocks to give us ages in numbers of years. These

Radiometric dating is the determination of age by using radioactivity, has become geology s best tool

My Experience In Community College
It never crossed my mind that both my academic life and the privilege to attend USC would ever be in
jeopardy. At first, I believed that my transition from a community college into a 4 year institution
would essentially be a walk at the park. Unfortunately, to my dismay, I was wrong. I underestimated
the level of work and effort that was required out of me from this university in order to be successful.
Instead, I overestimated my abilities and trusted my poor sense of judgement. This mentality
consequently stunted my potential to perform at my very best which led to my downfall. As a result, I
found myself in a very peculiar situation that I had never been in before nor ever experienced. I found
myself at the brink of academic disqualification and on the verge of having my dreams disappear right

reasons my work fell below acceptable standards was due to my extreme lack of confidence. This all

The White Tiger Essay
Aravind Adiga s debut and Man Booker Prize winning epistolary novel, The White Tiger , is a
chronicle of the underbelly Balram, whose quest for freedom is a microcosm for the underclass and its
life of struggle in 21st century, globalized India. Class antagonism and social stratification is an
integral part of this society and The White Tiger provides a brutally realistic exposition of the
downtrodden through the first person narrator, Balram Halwai, who is a strong voice of the underclass.
This essay attempts to analyze how Adiga depicts the oppressed underclass in the context of a deeply
divided India, characterized by a fierce class war, exploitation, and expanding globalization.

Balram represents the poor in India longing for tomorrow and the conscience of underclass their spirit
of anger, frustration, and vengeance. The underclass is caged in the metaphoric Rooster Coop , and the
title of the novel itself is a symbolism of the literary metaphysics of the idea of liberation from the

seems to propose the path of liberation for many by associating himself to the majestic and defying

Consumerism Woodhouse Summary
In consumerism Woodhouse starts off by telling his audience what consumerism is. Woodhouse also
talks about the benefits of it such as stimulating the economy and facilitating peoples liberties to shape
their identities and cultures . This is followed by the downside of consumerism that it is a manipulated
and environmentally destructive habit leading to too many units of stuff being designed, produced,
advertised, sold, and discarded . This brief introduction really helps lay the foundation for the rest of
the article and foreshadows what will be talked about.
Woodhouse then goes into the agents . The agents are the ones that are actually responsible for
producing consumerism. These are the chemists that created harmful synthetic pesticide, product
designers that create new and attractive products, and civil engineers that build roads that create urban
sprawl as just a few examples. Without this group of people there would be no production of a ...

The means is just the technological advancement of today s world. Woodhouse uses examples of
means such as research, marketing, and technology in general. This is a crucial point in consumerism
because without the means then the agents wouldn t have the capability to mass produce items. This
nonhuman technology also gives agents a certain level of calculability, and predictably, unprecedented
to others.
Woodhouse also explains that without sites then businesses and governments wouldn t have anywhere
to test their ideas or develop new ideas. Fast food restaurants, military research and development, and
college universities are all places of research. College universities are a good example because they
get government grant money to test new theories and technologies. If anything should prove
successful during research though it is almost guaranteed that it will be mass produced and used to

and Tibetans were not willing to leave their places in their traditional way of life. While Tashi s
mother and father were not willing to give Tashi an education, his aunt does teach him the alphabet.
On the other hand, Phutsok s ambition for education was not hindered by his parental figures at all.
Phutsok s parents encouraged him to obtain an education by sending him to the monk with his uncle.
However, the level of importance Phutsok placed in terms of education is questionable when
considering that the death of his uncle meant that he left the monastery. If Phutsok truly wanted to
further his education, he would have tried different means in order to be allowed to stay at the
monastery. Overall, both Phutsok and Palden Gyatso strive for religious educations, while Tashi
Tsering is only offered a secular education. The fact that Phutsok and Palden

The European Union ( Eu ) And North American Free Trade...
The European Union (EU) and North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) both consists of
twenty seven countries that makes it the largest trading bloc in the world. Based on the 2008 figure,
the value of the exports of goods/services from European Union to NAFTA was 639. One billion
Canadian dollars while the import of goods/services to the European Union from the NAFTA was
amounted to 513.9 billion Canadian dollars. Two trade blocs are also highly interdependent by the
means of FDI. In 2007, the value of inflows of FDI NAFTA from EU was about 1.77 trillion Canadian
dollars and 1.63 trillion Canadian dollars from NAFTA to EU respectively.

The primary objective of this paper is to investigate the effects of two policies that are related to Trans
Atlantic Free Trade Agreement (FTA). Firstly, we will explore the effects of bilateral FTA between
Canada and the EU on different Canadian sectors (policy 1). Secondly, to investigate the economic
effect if there is a free trade agreement between EU and NAFTA (Policy 2). There are various
techniques that could be utilized to carry out this analysis. In this paper we use Computable General

How The Death Penalty Changed
My feelings about the death penalty have not changed. To me, I believe that life in prison is better,
because I would rather them live with what they did than just make it easier for them by taking their
life away. But no one should have to experiece that. I am for the death penalty, but only when there is
not another option for that person. They must really really be a threat for our society, especially when
they are influencing other criminals. Now that I ve researched the death penalty, I can not believe how
many states have it. I know that most use it just for more of a threat. According to the news and how
many crimes we actually have, evidently it doesn t really scare anyone. Once it gets to that point,
hopefully it continues its job

A Raisin In The Sun Fate Vs Free Will Essay
In the texts, A Raisin in the Sun and Antigone, written by Lorraine Hansberry and Sophocles,
respectively, the lens of Fate vs. Free Will is exposed within the situations and dialogues in these
plays. However, to analyze these plays with this lens perspective, one must first recognize what this
lens pertains to. The lens of Fate vs. Free Will pertains to the perspective of analyzing events in a story
and deciding whether they occur due to a predetermined destiny, or rather, a choice made by a
character s own decision or free will. Some may argue, that no matter what, events happen only out of
one of these choices. Now in some opinions, that may hold some validity. However, this can be proved
otherwise. In A Raisin in the Sun, the Younger family, a lower class black family in Chicago, awaits an
insurance check, sent in commemoration of the late father of Walter and Beneatha Younger, and the
husband of Lena Younger. There coexist many views on how to use the money, the prominent ones
being Walter s aspiration of opening a liquor store, Lena s aspiration of purchasing a house, ... Show

However, the perspective being taken here is that both fate and free will control these events. In A
Raisin in the Sun, the character, Walter, wants to open a liquor store with some of the money obtained
from the insurance check. This is an example of free will. In Antigone, Creon s close family, Eurydice,
Haemon and Antigone, all kill themselves because of Creon s harsh actions. This is an example of
fate. In these plays, examples of both fate and free will exist and prove that both control the events
that happen to these characters. Therefore, both fate and free will control the events in A Raisin in the
Sun and Antigone, as proved by the events that happen out of a character s decision, the destined
outcome, and the way the events progress based on fate and free

The Feeling Of Love In William Shakespeare s Sonnet 116
Shakespeare s use of putting pictures in your mind and physical things that refer to ideas or emotions
in 14 line poem 116 hints that love is a constant feeling of love, hate, guilt, etc., which never gives up
to time. Love is a feeling of love, hate, and guilt, which all of us have an idea of. In fact, a lot of us
may even have experienced what we thought of to be true love. However, does such thing mixed in
the level of this feeling of love, hate, and guilt actually exist, and if it does are we able to define it?
This is something that William Shakespeare feels strongly about in Sonnet 116 .
Shakespeare sticks to the traditions of the 14 line poem strictly within Sonnet 116 , as it is made up of
fourteen lines in total, with each line consisting itself of ten syllables. The sonnet also follows a
regular stress pattern.
The 14 line poem opens with a statement, proclaiming that it is not the purpose of the voice to prevent
the marriage of true minds . Basically, the voice is taking over what is to follow, in which the voice
outlines their order of what true love actually is. This is something that is put into aspect by the
following statement, love is not love, which changes when it changes finds (116 l.3); this outlines the
voice s main purpose that true love is steady and unchanging, it is not something that shifts back and
forth or bends in the face of outside forces. However it is not only the impact of the outside world that
are unable to bring forth, and as the

Russia After The End Of World War I And The Russian Civil War
After the end of World War 1 and the Russian Civil War, Russia was suffering major setbacks,
especially economically. The Soviet Union was receiving threats from western countries which
increased a need for faster industrialization. Vladimir Lenin, created a plan called the New Economic
Policy, which was a plan to help rebuild the Russian economy, focusing more agrigculturally rather
than industrially, over a longer period of time. After Lenin died, Joseph Stalin rose to power and
created a demand on faster industrialization. In 1928, Joseph Stalin created a plan that would change
Russian industrialization for the better. This plan was called the Five Year Plan. The plan focused on
new developments on steel, machine tools, and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Time, Forward!, it talks about a Shock Brigade in Magnitogorsk, Russia who competes with
another plant to break the world record for pouring concrete the fastest. This paper argues how Kataev
s Time, Forward is an example of how the Soviet Union speeds up time using Stalin s Five Year Plan
and the grueling stipulations that came along with this plan to increase forward industrialization to an
emerging USSR. After finding out about the world record set at a different plant for the fastest
concrete poured, the engineer in charge of construction, David Margulies and many of the other
workers immediately want to beat the record. Margulies plans everything out and finds out that it is
very possible to beat the record and the crew gets to work. While these men are trying to beat the
record, they work in terrible working conditions and their lives are oftern put into danger. They are
trying to beat this record in 24 hours with little to no sleep to begin with. It also talks about a strong
storm passing through and they continue to work through that, despite the strong wind and the hard
rain. Due to the storm one of the workers smashes his hand in railcar doors. Smetana stood on the
railroad track between the two couplings that had been knocked together. The canvas glove dangled
from his left arm like a rag. (273). This shows that despite harsh working conditions many factory
workers faced, they worked through it anyway so that Stalin s Five Year Plan could

Persuasive Essay On Green House Effect
We as a society have reached one of the most crucial time periods in the history of our world. Due to
the way we have used the resources on this earth we have created a situation in which our climate is
drastically changing. The burning of fossil fuels such as coal and oil has caused gases like carbon
dioxide to become trapped in the atmosphere causing a natural greenhouse effect. The greenhouse
effect has caused the earth s average temperature to rise and has resulted in arctic glaciers melting.
These glaciers had gases trapped inside them that are now being released into the atmosphere further
raising the earth s temperature. Due to the way we are polluting our air we have caused global
warming. This global warming has caused stronger natural disasters such as hurricanes and wildfires
putting our society in more danger than ever before. Joseph Fournier came up with the idea of the
greenhouse effect in 1824. In the late 1950 s Charles Keeling created a tool in Mauna Loa Hawaii to
measure the amount of carbon dioxide being trapped in the atmosphere due to the greenhouse effect.
This tool has discovered a steady increase in the carbon dioxide levels over the last fifty years in what
has become known as the Keeling Curve . Keeling discovered that about twenty five percent of the
carbon dioxide molecules in our atmosphere are man made. These carbon dioxide molecules being
trapped in the atmosphere are raising earth s temperature at a dangerous rate. Many in the science

from the list of strengths and weaknesses it can be observed that SABMiller s strengths in having a
geographically diversified business with its wide premium brand portfolio and strong supply chain

Jesus Barron And The Eucharist
Bishop Barron believed that the Eucharist was theologically problematic. He goes on to say, that Jews
at the time were extremely disgusted by the idea of eating his human flesh, because they did not
consume any flesh. However, instead of Jesus stepping back and conforming his thoughts into a better
analogy, he did exactly the opposite. He carried on with the idea of eating his flesh by stating: Unless
you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you shall not have life within you.
Jesus intentionally expanded this notion in order to let the Jews at the time step out of their notions
and have faith in Him. The Greek word that is used is not the one for eating but the one for gnawing .
This further emphasized the animal

Blepharitis Research Paper
Eyelashes are tiny hairs located on the upper and lower human eyelids. Each eyelid tends to be in the
form of layers which might amount to 4 5 layers of the eyelid. They serve an important purpose of
securing the eyes from direct exposure to dust. They are rooted deep in to eyelid. Any sort of threat to
the eyes is automatically detected and responded by the contraction of muscles that are present inside
the eyelids. In the fractions of seconds all of this process gets executed. The eyelashes act as shields
every time the eye flickers. A grease type of substance is emitted from internal sebaceous organs when
a flicker occurs. The eyes are then filled with this substance. The organs which carry the tears
surround the edges confining the eyelids. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Blepharitis: Symptoms of blepharitis incorporate aggravation of the real part of the eyelids, with
crusting or scales at cover edges. Eyelids are generally red, thickened, blazing, and sore and feel
bothersome, and might be stuck together in the mornings. Blepharitis can be brought about by a
bacterial disease (with the outside layers being hard to evacuate) or because of dermatitis (with the
scales all the more effectively expelled). Your eyes might be sensitive to light. The condition is
regularly perpetual (durable) and has a tendency to be connected with dandruff or potentially dry eye.

transducin which is a G protein. This G protein then activates phosphodiesterase. Phosphodiesterase is
an enzyme that breaks down cyclic GMP. The break down of cyclic GMP removes them from the
gated sodium channels and makes the gated sodium channels inactive. Because of this, sodium ion
entry into the cytoplasm decreases.

Slice Of Life Shows Comparison
Going to school may be a chore for most students, but what if everything was not as it seemed for a

Japanese animation where the story portrays parts of the character s life. It is a genre that is never by
itself and always goes along with other genres such as comedy, drama, or romance. Both shows have
some similarities and differences in the three categories of: types of characters, story lines, and the
format. Both of the shows have a main character that parallel each other. In Love, Chunibyo Other
Delusions, Rikka Takanashi is a delusional character who believes she is a sorceress possessed by the
Eye of the Wicked Lord and wears an eyepatch to seal its power . In School Live!, Yuki Takeya has
delusions of her own, as she believes everything is perfectly fine and is unable to notice the zombie
apocalypse going on around her the whole time. Their reasoning for believing in their delusions is
quite similar in a way, and in both shows, the other characters tend go along with their delusions to

Analysis Of Courtly Love In The Knight s Tale
Courtly love is simply a knight flirting with a nobleman s wife or vice versa. But in this story, it is two
men flirting the same person. This obviously destroys the relationship between the two flirtatious
competitors, which is what happened in The Knight s Tale . They are prisoners of war, and locked in a
tower for eternity. When they see a beautiful woman, they both fall in love, escape, and fight each
other for her hand.
Palamon and Arcite are locked in a tower in athens by Theseus after surviving a battle. They are fairly
close cousins, but when both see a beautiful woman, Emily, in a nearby garden, they immediately fall
in love. Since love triangles never work, the cousins are blood thirsty for each other and try to kill
each other. They eventually find themselves in an arena ready to fight for the hand of Emily, winner
takes all. Each person prays to and gets the help of a certain god. The three main gods in this text are
venus, the god of fertility, mars, the god of war, and Diana, the god of chastity. Venus helped Palamon,
Mars helped Arcite, and Diana helped Emily. Venus and her temple are significant in this story
because she is the goddess of love and sex. This story deals with the different connections of the
flirters and the flirted.
In this Quote, the Narrator, the knight, is describing the temple of Venus in the arena.

Descriptive Adjectives In The Monkey s Paw And The House...
Descriptive Adjectives in The Monkey s Paw, and The House of the Scorpion.
The author, Erik Pevernagie, once said, When ideas evaporate, when shapes fade and forms lose their
integrity, our imagination can create an outlandish setting and convert everything into a hazy, misty
Turner landscape. ( Back garden of a dream ) .
Many writers often use specific words and details to help bring the reader into the story. By using
these words the writer helps develop a setting, and it brings the reader into, and be able to experience
it as if they were there. In the story The Monkey s Paw by W.W Jacobs, and the novel, The House of
the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer, the author uses descriptive adjectives to help develop the setting. First,
the author uses descriptive adjectives in The Monkey s Paw, to develop setting in the story. This helps
the reader see and feel the setting as if they were really there. In addition, the quote, Without, the night
was cold and wet, but in the small Laburnum Villa the blinds were drawn and the fire burned brightly.
The quote helps to set the stage of the story, while also bringing a warm, and inviting kind of mood.
Saying that the fire burned brightly brings a comforting feeling to the reader like they are with the
characters in the story. Next, another example of Descriptive adjectives would be, A cold wind rushed
up the staircase, and a long loud wail of disappointment and misery from his wife gave him the
courage to run down to her side, and then to the gate beyond. The streetlamp flickering opposite shone
on a quiet and deserted road. This quote brings an unsettling but relieved state of mind. The father just
wished away his undead son, and the tension in the story is released. Saying the street lamp was
flickering on a quiet and deserted road brings the reader into the story as if they were staring off into
the street with the characters. Lastly, descriptive adjectives is in the quote, He sat until he was chilled
with the cold, glancing occasionally at the figure of the old woman in the window. The candle end,
which had burned below the rim of the china candlestick, was throwing pulsating shadows on the
ceiling and walls, until, with a flicker larger than the rest,

Macro Partisanship Summary
The reading on macropartisantish this week lead us to a simple conclusion and that is what is a good
measure of partisanship. Measuring artisanship seem to be primordial to study that phenomenon. The
first step in that study might be the conceptualization. The fight different between Mackuen, et al and
Abramson and Ostrom was mainly about the source of the data. Asking question about someone
partisanship or the party he usually affiliate himself to are 2 different things. Asking the first question
might lead to bugger shift in partisanship in their result because people might change their affiliation
based on current events or the economic performance of an incumbent candidate. To know if

I think it is also worth noting that Green and Palmquist use the NES poll data in their study which
bring us back to the first question which is how to accurately measure partisanship? If question asked
by pools can heavily change the result of studies we need to know what question to ask when we are
measuring short term variance and when we are measuring long term variance. I think the Gallup poll
might be useful to measure the short term variance in macro partisanship and the NES and GSS poll
might be effecting when it comes to long term shifts in partisanship. However these article failed to
discuss the polls in general and find if the interviewed population is representative of the US
population. Abramson and Ostrom also briefly talked about the effect telephone poll can have on polls

Light And Dark Imagery Of London And Paris
The beginning of book one immediately starts out with dark and gory imagery of London
during the 18th century. A series of darkness and shadows continue along with a limited amount
of lightness where the sun rises into the bright sky. Light and darkness represent both good and
evil in the novel and these opposing forces reflect the moods during the French Revolution.
Furthermore, the use of light and dark imagery impacts the connotations associated with the
moral, philosophical and social issues, as well as ethics during this turbulent era.
The first line of A Tale of Two Cities is It was the best of times, it was the worst of
times... (3) this suggests a distinction of the two cities, London and Paris. London was known
for being the peaceful home of the main characters, however Paris was quite the opposite
because of the vicious French Revolution. Within this dark imagery, Dicken s gives the reader
some tender moments with the loving and harmonious Lucie Manette (147). Lucie is one
character that shows true morals with great lightness. Dickens portrays Lucie as being delightful
and extremely beautiful and she has a great talent for bringing out the best in everyone in the
novel that surrounds her. She is one of the characters in the novel that hasn t fully evolved, but
she still manages to have great morals. Despite the fact that Lucie is a flat character, she is still
quite important in the novel. The author portrays her as the golden

deal regarding the Carfax estate in London. During his stay, Harker cuts himself while shaving and
Dracula dives for his blood. This is when a beautiful woman appears and confirms Harker s suspicion
that Dracula is a vampire. Meanwhile, back in England, a mysterious ship runs aground, however, all
the ship carries is dirt. People also spot a small dog running from the ship only to disappear into the
woods. Soon after the ship s appearance, Harker s fiancee, Mina falls ill. Mina is taken to doctor Van
Helsing but he is unable to figure out the cause, the only thing he sees are two small marks on her
neck. As the doctors talk, mental patient Renfield enters the room. However, he only eats the bugs on
the windowsill. As Mina s condition worsens, Van Helsing calls in Seward, another doctor. After some
observation, Seward comes to the conclusion that Mina s condition has been caused by a vampire. In
an effort to keep Mina safe they hang garlic in the windows at night and put a crucifix around her
neck. That night the doctors come by to check on Mina, but they soon realize that a maid has removed
the garlic from the window and Dracula is sucking Mina s blood. ... Show more content on

When Harker, Van Helsing and Seward debate what to do, they come to the conclusion that Dracula
must be killed, before he kills Mina. They realize that Dracula sleeps at the Carfax estate so they head
there to kill him. They find him sleeping in his coffin in the basement. As they prepare the wooden
stake over his heart, Renfield arrives and approaches them with a gun and aims to shoot the men. He
reveals that he has been working with Dracula. Then men knock the gun from his hands and hammer
the wooden stake into Dracula s heart, killing

Avon in China
Avon Products, Inc. (Avon), the US cosmetics giant, had considered China the keystone of its
marketing effort in Asia. Years of effort and the development of a large direct marketing organisation
in that country had made operations in China its most profitable and most rapidly growing market in
Asia. On 21 April 1998 senior company officials from the New York headquarters and throughout
Asia had gathe red in Guangzhou for what was supposed to be a festive occasion. During the meeting

Mistreatment Of A Child Essay
Women and children are both victims of mistreatment frequently in the nation. This type of
mistreatment can be characterized as physical or emotional abuse. People are not aware of this serious
problem, because it occurs mostly behind closed doors. It would be a rare incident for a male figure to
abuse a woman or a child in a public area. The public service announcement attached to the end of this
document depicts a dark story of family members being abused. The image was collected from an
electronic source that had other public announcements. The source conveyed multiple misdemeanors
in our society still today, such as drugs, drinking and driving. The public announcement on the last
page was pulled from a website. The website was a place for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

He Has His Mother s Eyes is a phrase presented on the image that means that the mother and the son
are both being physically abused. When the mother is being mistreated, the child would also
experience this mistreatment when trying to protect her. The statement concluded through the phrase
given and most importantly, by the boy having an injury on the left side of his eye of some type of
physical force. The area in which the injury has occurred is done by someone, because it is hard to get
that specific area injured by objects. When someone falls face forward, the bruising would happen to
the forehead or the cheeks because our eyes are concave, or slightly in the skull. In addition, the
bruising around the eye is unique because it is commonly associated with physical actions, like the
hand. The importance of this is that it shows the mistreatment of a mother and a young son by an
individual. This mistreatment is illegal in this country regardless of age. The mistreatment of family
members, like the mother and son, goes against the American ideal. Families are meant to support one
another and create a loving bond rather than having a distasteful relationship with one

Symbolism in the Awakening by Kate Chopin
Symbolism in The Awakening by Kate Chopin
The Awakening by Kate Chopin is a novel full of symbolism which reveals much of the deeper
meaning in the story. Within each narrative segment there is often a symbol that helps to add meaning
to the text, and the understanding of these symbols is essential to a full appreciation of the story. These
symbolic elements help the reader to make a connection between Edna s world and her eventual
awakening. Throughout the novel there are a huge number of symbols but three of the most
meaningful symbols used are birds, houses and the ocean.
Birds often represent freedom and the ability to fly but are also symbols for something that goes one
step further. Several kinds of birds appear throughout ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The mother women on Grand Isle could be a clear example of this idea, they are represented as birds
in this sentence: It was easy to know them, fluttering about with extended, protecting wings when any
harm, real or imaginary, threatened their precious brood (page 19). Edna is not one of these mother
women because she doesn t give her life neither for her husband nor for her children, and that sets her
apart.
Related to birds there is another symbol, the flight, which acts as a stand for awakening. This
symbolic theme appears constantly throughout the novel. We can see that Edna escapes her life, her
children and her husband following her own believes of freedom. In this fragment we can see that
Mademoiselle Reisz guides Edna through her awakening, but she cannot help her forever: she put her
arms around me and felt my shoulder blades, to see if my wings were strong. The bird that would soar
above the level plain of tradition and prejudice must have strong wings. It is a sad spectacle to see the
weaklings bruised, exhausted, fluttering back to earth (page 217). In other words, she says that she has
to be brave in order to defy society.
The final symbol related to birds occurs on Grand Isle when Edna comes back to the place of her
awakening in order to die. All along the white beach, up and down, there was no living thing in sight.
A bird with a broken wing was beating the air above, reeling, fluttering,

earning the name of the great . Today Alexander the Great is known as a conquering leader who
created one of the largest empires of all time. Both Pericles and Alexander the Great are remembered
today as some of the most accomplished and respected leaders in living memory. Pericles was born in

Athens golden age between the Persian and Peloponnesian wars. Pericles popularized arts and

Williams Clatsop Community College The Psychoanalytic Approach And Some of the Influential People Behind It There are different theoretical approaches to psychology; behaviorist, humanistic, psychoanalytic, and biological. I will be discussing the psychoanalytic approach to psychology and some of the pioneers of this theory. What is the psychoanalytic approach? Psychoanalysis is a form of psychotherapy that aids an individual in determining the underlying cause of deep rooted psychological troubles when other approaches have not been successful in alleviating those troubles. This approach is better suited for those issues that have been plaguing an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Freud based his theory of psychoanalysis on unconscious forces, sexual aggressive instincts, and early childhood experiences as what shapes who we are as adults. Even though his approaches may not be favored completely today research has shown that the self examination used in his psychoanalytic process can contribute to one s long term emotional growth (Cherry, K. 2016b). Health professionals were enlightened by psychoanalysis to the inner workings of the human mind, which were previously inexplicable (Beystehner, K.M., n.d.). Sigmund Freud s research indicated that our behavior is influenced by id, ego and superego, or what he termed structure of personality (nthdimension, 2010). The id is present at birth and is the most basic and primitive part of our personality. Id s drive is instinctual and can be described as having the life instinct named Eros and the death instinct named Thanatos. Id is responsible for the basic, instinctual needs of survival like hunger and thirst. Ego is developed to compromise between the instinctual desire driven Id and the external expectations of parents and society. Superego is developed when a child is about 5 years old and is the internalization of the expectations of parents and society that aides them to evaluate their behaviors for what s acceptable or not acceptable. • 3. Language Planning and Language Development LANGUAGE PLANNING AND LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT Language is a typically human phenomenon. In moving from the natural being of animal existence to the cultural being of human existence, language plays the decisive role. Language gives a sense of identity to an individual as well as a social group and, in the process, creates multiple identities. The maintenance, merger, clash and change in identities based on and reflected in the language change has prompted linguists, philosophers, psychologists, sociologists, anthropologists and political scientists to study language in its multifarious dimensions. Illiteracy is a major problem of the country (Pattanayak 1974). Out of 800 million illiterates in the world, India is credited to have 400 million . if in eradicating illiteracy the intention is to move from a culture of silence to a culture of thinking participation and the emphasis is on the creation of an intelligent task force for economic and industrial development, then, urgent and bold steps need to be taken in this area. Literacy in a multilingual must be based on the expressed needs of a people3. Secondly, the language of literacy has to be determined keeping in view the various contexts of language use and strategies linking the languages of literacy with that of education and administration. It would thus be quite clear that whether it is in the field of language use in education, language use in administration or in mass media, there is a constant need to weigh alternatives and plan action. The examples cited above are as true of any multilingual country as they are of India. Such examples not only establish the necessity for language planning, but also the need to analyse its process and product. Before talking about language planning, one must understand the motivation and mechanisms of planning. Planning is not merely a catalogue of resources and the organisation and mobilization of these resources to reach a certain defined goal. Since the technocrat is seldom the decision maker, it is important that the planner provides alternatives and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Trisha moved to New York City to study composition with Robert Dunn, who had taught a class at Merce Cunningham s studio. This studio was based on John Cage s theories of chance. Brown rejected aspects of it but also maintained great admiration for him and his work. In 1961 she trained with dancer Anna Halprin and became a founding member of the avant garde Judson Dance Theater in 1962. There she worked with experimental dancers Steve Paxton, Twyla Tharp, Lucinda Childs, Yvonne Rainer, and David Gordon. In the late 1960s, Brown created her own works which attempted to defy gravity using equipment such as harnesses and ropes, which allowed dancers to walk on or down walls to experiment with the dynamics of stability. These equipment pieces were the first dances to comprise a distinct series in what would become a working method for her as she went on to create various cycles of dances throughout her career. • 6. Detecting Autism In Toddlers Abstract This paper considers the problem of detecting autism in toddlers at an age early enough to allow for timely intervention. It begins with an overview of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs) and explains the importance of early screening for such disorders. It then outlines a range of possible screening techniques, before focusing on the most prominent of these, the Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers (M CHAT). The paper explains the origins of M CHAT, how it works, and what its results have been so far. In order to mitigate against false positives, M CHAT requires the practitioner to contact parents in the case of positive screenings and to get them to verify their answers during a follow up interview. A positive screen occurs in one of two cases: either if responses to any two of the six critical questions indicate abnormal developmental progress, or if any three of the twenty three questions indicate the same. The first backdrop was created for his Jazz Symphony which depicted an African American couple dancing the Charleston while the male is firmly grasping her buttocks in front of an American flag background. This piece was performed by an African American orchestra. This only heightened the controversy. The next one, created for Ballet Mécanique depicts a futuristic city with the focal point being a Dadaist representation of Marcel Duchamp s Fountain, and a more than life size figure of a man jumping off a diving board that seemed to be attached to a curved pipe of the sort generally used in connection with a toilet. Palden Gyatso, Tashi Tsering, and Phutsok all had different levels of ambition that was influenced and challenged by parental authority figures. Palden Gyatso s strive for education could be described as moderate because while he wanted to become a monk, he did not bother to figure out how one becomes a monk. This is unusual considering that Tashi s father was one of three literate men in their town. Tashi s father may have been influenced by the other Tibetan s idea of education. Tibetans did not believe in the importance of education because they were not convinced that education was a means of raising one s social or economic position. Tibetan society determined a person s rank in life and Tibetans were not willing to leave their places in their traditional way of life. While Tashi s mother and father were not willing to give Tashi an education, his aunt does teach him the alphabet. On the other hand, Phutsok s ambition for education was not hindered by his parental figures at all. Phutsok s parents encouraged him to obtain an education by sending him to the monk with his uncle. However, the level of importance Phutsok placed in terms of education is questionable when considering that the death of his uncle meant that he left the monastery. If Phutsok truly wanted to further his education, he would have tried different means in order to be allowed to stay at the monastery. A Raisin In The Sun Fate Vs Free Will Essay In the texts, A Raisin in the Sun and Antigone, written by Lorraine Hansberry and Sophocles, respectively, the lens of Fate vs. Free Will is exposed within the situations and dialogues in these plays. However, to analyze these plays with this lens perspective, one must first recognize what this lens pertains to. The lens of Fate vs. Free Will pertains to the perspective of analyzing events in a story and deciding whether they occur due to a predetermined destiny, or rather, a choice made by a character s own decision or free will. Some may argue, that no matter what, events happen only out of one of these choices. Now in some opinions, that may hold some validity. However, this can be proved otherwise. In A Raisin in the Sun, the Younger family, a lower class black family in Chicago, awaits an insurance check, sent in commemoration of the late father of Walter and Beneatha Younger, and the husband of Lena Younger. There coexist many views on how to use the money, the prominent ones being Walter s aspiration of opening a liquor store, Lena s aspiration of purchasing a house, ... In these plays, examples of both fate and free will exist and prove that both control the events that happen to these characters. The Feeling Of Love In William Shakespeare s Sonnet 116 Shakespeare s use of putting pictures in your mind and physical things that refer to ideas or emotions in 14 line poem 116 hints that love is a constant feeling of love, hate, guilt, etc., which never gives up to time. Love is a feeling of love, hate, and guilt, which all of us have an idea of. In fact, a lot of us may even have experienced what we thought of to be true love. However, does such thing mixed in the level of this feeling of love, hate, and guilt actually exist, and if it does are we able to define it? This is something that William Shakespeare feels strongly about in Sonnet 116 . Shakespeare sticks to the traditions of the 14 line poem strictly within Sonnet 116 , as it is made up of fourteen lines in total, with each line consisting itself of ten syllables. The sonnet also follows a regular stress pattern. The 14 line poem opens with a statement, proclaiming that it is not the purpose of the voice to prevent the marriage of true minds . Basically, the voice is taking over what is to follow, in which the voice outlines their order of what true love actually is. This is something that is put into aspect by the following statement, love is not love, which changes when it changes finds (116 l.3); this outlines the voice s main purpose that true love is steady and unchanging, it is not something that shifts back and forth or bends in the face of outside forces. • 26. Persuasive Essay On Green House Effect We as a society have reached one of the most crucial time periods in the history of our world. Due to the way we have used the resources on this earth we have created a situation in which our climate is drastically changing. The burning of fossil fuels such as coal and oil has caused gases like carbon dioxide to become trapped in the atmosphere causing a natural greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect has caused the earth s average temperature to rise and has resulted in arctic glaciers melting. These glaciers had gases trapped inside them that are now being released into the atmosphere further raising the earth s temperature. Due to the way we are polluting our air we have caused global warming. This global warming has caused stronger natural disasters such as hurricanes and wildfires putting our society in more danger than ever before. Joseph Fournier came up with the idea of the greenhouse effect in 1824. In the late 1950 s Charles Keeling created a tool in Mauna Loa Hawaii to measure the amount of carbon dioxide being trapped in the atmosphere due to the greenhouse effect. This tool has discovered a steady increase in the carbon dioxide levels over the last fifty years in what has become known as the Keeling Curve . Keeling discovered that about twenty five percent of the carbon dioxide molecules in our atmosphere are man made. These carbon dioxide molecules being trapped in the atmosphere are raising earth s temperature at a dangerous rate. Many in the science ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Any sort of threat to the eyes is automatically detected and responded by the contraction of muscles that are present inside the eyelids. In the fractions of seconds all of this process gets executed. The eyelashes act as shields every time the eye flickers. The author, Erik Pevernagie, once said, When ideas evaporate, when shapes fade and forms lose their integrity, our imagination can create an outlandish setting and convert everything into a hazy, misty Turner landscape. ( Back garden of a dream ) . Many writers often use specific words and details to help bring the reader into the story. By using these words the writer helps develop a setting, and it brings the reader into, and be able to experience it as if they were there. In the story The Monkey s Paw by W.W Jacobs, and the novel, The House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer, the author uses descriptive adjectives to help develop the setting. First, the author uses descriptive adjectives in The Monkey s Paw, to develop setting in the story. This helps the reader see and feel the setting as if they were really there. In addition, the quote, Without, the night was cold and wet, but in the small Laburnum Villa the blinds were drawn and the fire burned brightly. The quote helps to set the stage of the story, while also bringing a warm, and inviting kind of mood. Saying that the fire burned brightly brings a comforting feeling to the reader like they are with the characters in the story. Next, another example of Descriptive adjectives would be, A cold wind rushed up the staircase, and a long loud wail of disappointment and misery from his wife gave him the courage to run down to her side, and then to the gate beyond. The mother women on Grand Isle could be a clear example of this idea, they are represented as birds in this sentence: It was easy to know them, fluttering about with extended, protecting wings when any harm, real or imaginary, threatened their precious brood (page 19). Edna is not one of these mother women because she doesn t give her life neither for her husband nor for her children, and that sets her apart. Related to birds there is another symbol, the flight, which acts as a stand for awakening. This symbolic theme appears constantly throughout the novel. The bird that would soar above the level plain of tradition and prejudice must have strong wings. It is a sad spectacle to see the weaklings bruised, exhausted, fluttering back to earth (page 217). In other words, she says that she has to be brave in order to defy society. The final symbol related to birds occurs on Grand Isle when Edna comes back to the place of her awakening in order to die. All along the white beach, up and down, there was no living thing in sight. A bird with a broken wing was beating the air above, reeling, fluttering, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
